Interim General Manager's Message (336) 275-8506

Dear Members, I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season filled with family and friends! Our General Manager and COO, Terra Waldron, stepped down at the end of 2021 to focus on her family. She will be greatly missed by staff and Members alike, and we are all grateful for the contributions she made to GCC over the last three and a half years. During this time of transition, it is both an honor and my great pleasure to serve as your Interim General Manager again while maintaining my role as CFO. Rest assured that the Club is in very capable hands with your outstanding Senior Leadership Team.

January | February 2022

As I reflect on 2021, I am amazed with the resilience of our Club despite the many curveballs thrown our way. One of the most prominent words of 2021 was the word “pivot” and we certainly did! Despite the closure of a large portion of our Irving Park Clubhouse (including the pool and Fitness Center), the reinstatement of the mask mandate in Guilford County for a good part of the year, and the supply chain challenges experienced across the globe, your staff of devoted professionals came together to make sure your Club experience was a fantastic one. We expanded hours and services at the Farm and rolled out our Farm Only Membership. We also hosted our Memorial and Labor Day festivities at the Farm and our Halloween Fright Night was a huge success with over 600 people attending! As we embark on the adventure that 2022 is sure to be, we are abuzz with excitement with the opening of the new Irving Park pool complex coming this summer. Between the newly designed Donald Ross Terrace and adult pool, the large family pool and the baby friendly splash pad, there is something for everyone. The renovation of the existing Fitness Center is almost complete and the new addition is moving right along. It will offer stunning views of the golf course from the new cardio

Page 2

room with brand new equipment. Seeing the progress in the weekly renovation updates is such a thrill and I hope to see you on one of the hard hat tours soon so you can see the changes for yourself. Our racquet community eagerly awaits the opening of our four new Pickleball courts with construction set to begin this February. We are so fortunate to have Tom Cascarano continuing to consult with us through this process. He will be dearly missed but we wish him the best in his retirement and we are so appreciative for his 30 years of service to the Club. The search for the new Director of Racquet Sports is under way and we are confident we will have an exceptional new team member by this spring. On behalf of the staff, I want to thank all of you for your continued support. We have much to look forward to in this coming year. The GCC staff will be here to provide memorable experiences for you and your family that will last a lifetime. Wishing you a happy and healthy new year in 2022! Sincerely, Michelle Lunney Interim General Manager/CFO

Introducing Wellness As our Fitness Center undergoes a beautiful and exciting renovation, it is taking another type of shift, as well. A person’s health is not just about physical fitness, it is about overall wellbeing. As a premier club, we care not just for one aspect of our member’s health, but for your overall wellbeing. Thus, we want to be your destination for wellness. We want your time in our Fitness Center to be spent taking care of your whole self!

Our Fitness Center is becoming more dedicated to serving all parts of your wellness. We are building a state-of-the-art physical fitness facility and exploring other options to serve you beyond the physical. Our massage services will continue to be available and we hope to bring additions in trainers, physical therapy, nutrition and the like. We have also started a bi-weekly Wellness Report to connect with you right in your inbox! This newsletter will offer wellness advice on a different topic every other week while also providing healthy, delicious recipes, and an exercise for the week. And of course, the club as a whole will continue to serve as your favorite social hub and community. We hope that these shifts will help you continue to strive for a life of wellness and make the Club even more of what you need. Yours in Health, The Fitness & Wellness Center Staff

January | February 2022

So what exactly does wellness mean? The definition we like comes from the Global Wellness Institute: “the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health” (globalwellnessinstitute.org). This means that one is pursuing things daily that will improve their overall health. Once again, this is not just about physical fitness. Wellness actually incorporates eight dimensions of life: emotional, occupational, intellectual, environmental, financial, physical, social and spiritual.
