COO/General Manager's Message

Dear Members,

Labor Day Weekend is upon us, and we hope you come to the Club on Monday, September 2 for a fun-filled day with enjoyable moments spent with family and friends.

This pool season has been great fun, with the introduction of Thursday Theme Days, the continuation of Aqua Fitness, and the Swim Team season where great friendships are forged with friendly competition. As we transition from summer, please note that the Farm Pool will close after Labor Day weekend. The Family Pool at Irving Park will remain open until the end of September. The Adult Pool will stay open through October, with the Donald Ross Terrace available until November (weather permitting).

As we embrace the arrival of fall, I believe it's the perfect time for a round of golf or a friendly tennis match with your peers. We also have an exciting lineup of events in addition to our traditional Labor Day Barbecue. Win great prizes at Back-to-School Bingo on Wednesday, September 4; Carolina Keys features dueling pianos on Tuesday, September 24 and will keep you entertained and your toes tapping all evening long; the 1909 Men’s Member Guest Golf Invitational - September 19-21 - is the premier men’s event of the season (we have once again doubled the field so more Members can participate); and, not to be outdone, the "Senoritas and Margaritas" Ladies Member Guest event – October 4-5 – will be a fantastic time to enjoy playing with friends and family. Last, but definitely not least, save the date – October 25 - for our annual Halloween Hayride and Fall Festival at the Farm. This is a great event for kids of all ages to enjoy!

Over the past year, we've closely collaborated with GGA Partners, a consulting group, to conduct a strategic study analyzing the Club's efficiency and Member engagement. It became evident that many of our Members, primarily residing near the Irving Park campus, preferred the convenience of dining closer to home, leading to a decline in participation at the Farm. Similarly, Sunday Brunch presented challenges for golfers seeking a post-game meal without committing to the buffet. Based on their findings and Member feedback, we made some adjustments. After the summer break, we reopened Sunset Dining Room and relocated Thursday Night Dinner Buffet and Sunday Brunch Buffet from the Farm to the Sunset Dining Room at Irving Park. Change can be uncertain, and we acknowledge the concerns raised.

Your overwhelming positive response and increased participation in Sunset in the past weeks have been truly inspiring. Change, while sometimes challenging, has allowed us to better meet your preferences. We are continuously listening to your feedback and will make adjustments as we can.

The Farm remains a cherished part of our Club, now offering a new, golf-centric, all-day menu that we encourage you to explore. Thank you for your continued support as we enhance your Club experience together.

In terms of ongoing improvements, we recently refurbished the elevator at the Irving Park Clubhouse and upgraded the restrooms by the Halfway House at the Farm. Upcoming projects include replacing the worn carpet in the Farm Hallway and Golf Shop, as well as further enhancements to the Farm's restrooms and outdoor furniture cushions. Casual seating on the Sunset Dining Terrace at Irving Park has also been added. These continuous investments and updates are vital to maintaining the Club's high standards.

The growth of GCC’s Membership remains essential for the Club's sustainability, ensuring we can continue investing in infrastructure and maintenance. As stewards of Greensboro Country Club’s legacy, we rely on your support to nurture its prosperity and vitality.

We deeply appreciate your ongoing support and trust in allowing us the privilege of serving you and your guests. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure every visit leaves you with a warm and memorable experience. To this end, our HappOmeter member survey system has expanded to include Curbside Service, with plans to integrate feedback from our Fitness Center in the next phase. This tool is crucial in measuring Member satisfaction and promptly addressing any operational issues. We appreciate all of your feedback, and remember, one lucky Member per month will receive a $50 dining gift certificate just for providing feedback.

We look forward to a fantastic fall season!

Warm regards,

Membership Message

What an incredible summer! We hope you have enjoyed doing all “The Things” that we call fun at Greensboro Country Club! Whether you have been joining us each Friday evening at the DRT for Happy Hour, or your children took advantage of the weekly YAC Youth Camps, we are feeling all the feels that Greensboro Country Club is where you want to spend your free time. Thank you for calling us your home away from home.

Fall is shaping up quickly with golf tournaments and racquet clinics. There are plenty of options for you and the family in racquets and golf so be sure to check the calendar for what fits your schedule. Twilight Golf at the Farm is a great time for couples to reconnect and we will handle the child watch for you at the Indoor Racquet Sports facility. If you are an avid reader, check out the Book Club that meets once a month. Join a tennis or pickleball clinic and see what all the rave is about. I heard a rumor that you can play ping pong in the Racquet Pro Shop! Come have some fun!

Thank you for continuing to support the efforts of Membership at GCC! Remember, you will earn Sponsoring Rewards when you Sponsor a new Member: $100 credit to your GCC Account, $250 Dinner Certificate and GCC Logo Item (Tumbler, Blanket or Golf Umbrella).

Junior club championship... "The Championship"

The 2024 Junior Club Championship saw 51 of GCC's finest junior golfers partake in our week-long competition. The first three days featured our Match Play Championship, with Charlie Heinzelmann besting Carson Goodrich in the final match of the Championship Flight to have his name engraved in the coveted wooden sword. Charlie and Carson combined for 9 birdies and an eagle through 17 holes in the thrilling final match in front of a large gallery. Rounding out the winners were:

Tripp White Kevin Carlock Bracket Champion

Charlie Meyer Kevin Carlock Consolation Bracket Champion

Jackson Kelley John Derrick Bracket Champion

Beau Bulakowski John Derrick Consolation Bracket Champion

Asher Stroud Sam Elliott Bracket Champion

Charles Currie Sam Elliott Consolation Bracket Champion

James Hall

Brandon Nowak Bracket Champion

Charlie Thacker Brandon Nowack Consolation Bracket Champion

The final two days of the week were our Stroke Play Championship, with Carson Goodrich claiming his revenge in the 15 & Up division by shooting a two-day total of two under par in rain-soaked conditions. The win earned Carson an exemption into our Men's Club Championship at the end of August, and he takes home the famous Championship Green Jacket. The winners of each age group were:

Carson Goodrich

Overall Stroke Play Champion

Jackson Kelley 13-14 Division Champion

Harrison Gunter 11-12 Division Champion

Dean Bulakowski 10 & Under Division Champion

Outside of the golf, it was a great week filled with player-only evening activities that included a basketball night, live press conferences, mini golf at ParTee Shack, a Greensboro Grasshoppers Game, movie night at Red Cinemas, our Champions Dinner and the Championship Shootout.

2024 Senior Club Championship
