Junior Beat the Pro
November 23, 2022
Winning Team Ward Payonk, Harrison Gunter & Elliot Ferrell
The Junior Beat the Pro tournament is always a great chance for junior golfers to dust off their clubs and try their hand at beating the golf pros! This year there were 12 junior golfers that came out to play in three-person teams. Each team played a Captain’s Choice format while Justin counted for the odd holes and Lane for the even holes on the golf pro team. Congratulations to the team of Harrison Gunter, Ward Payonk and Elliot Ferrell on their winning score of 29 on 9 holes! The winning team was led by none other than “Captain of Morale,” Ward Payonk!
Ladies Golf
Ladies Crosstown Challenge
In early November, a team of GCC ladies played the Crosstown Challenge - a Ryder Cup style event against Starmount Forest CC, with one round played at each course. After a hard-fought few days full of great camaraderie, the Starmount team emerged victorious
Ladies Closing Day & Jingle Bell Holiday Luncheon
For both Ladies Closing Day and our Jingle Bell holiday luncheon, we had over 30 women come out to each event and play nine holes of Captain's Choice at Irving Park Special shout-out to the Closing Day team of Sally Yancey, Sara Ruffin and Sally Kuratnick for finishing with a net 2-2-1 on their final three holes to be our Net Champions! Thank you to everyone who helped make 2022 an amazing year of ladies golf here at GCC!

Junior Development classes will stress the FUNdamentals while teaching the BEST way to play tennis. Member Spotlight: Claude Dawson
Claude Dawson has been training at GCC with Jamie since May Since then, he has made great strides in improving his physical condition. He shows up consistently with a great attitude. When asked what Mr. Dawson finds most beneficial about personal training, he stated, “Having a planned session on my calendar and knowing that I paid for it helps keep me more committed to showing up than when I relied solely on myself I also get more out of it, as a trainer helps focus on specific physical needs.”
There’s not a doubt in anyone’s mind when seeing him work out that he used to be an all-American lacrosse player The way he approaches workouts, seeing them as an obstacle that can be overcome, as a mental challenge and not just a physical one, made him an ideal person to feature in the newsletter. Mr. Dawson was asked to share his experience and insight in the hopes it may help others on their fitness journey. The last question we asked Mr Dawson was what advice he would give to someone that has thought about starting their fitness journey but has not started yet. Mr. Dawson believes that whether you are an athlete or not, it is very important to learn proper stretches and exercises to stay healthy.
