Greensboro Country Club July | August 2019
General Manager/COO's Message (336) 275-8506
Dear Members, It is hard to believe I passed my year anniversary at Greensboro Country Club last month - June 15, 2019. My first 100 days were finding my way around, reviewing the Operation in depth and taking considerable detailed notes.
happy, engaged and informed and bringing new members into the Club. Demographics are changing and with that comes generational conflict in many ways. From the food requested and what you grew up on, to numerous allergies and of course, style of service. Our different venues of food service address many of these requests.
In the midst of all this, the Board adopted a Strategic Plan for years 2018-2021 which is evergreen. The Board and I keep the plan front and center working on parallel paths, meaning I concentrate on Operations and the Board concentrates on Strategic. The two need to work in unison to have a successful Club.
The golf courses address golfers’ preferences (Bent and Bermuda greens). Golf tournaments respond to fun versus competition. Also, type of events offered keep members interested such as our educational Lecture Series, Wine Dinners, Tennis and Children’s events, etc.
July | August 2019
The major initiative we continue to work on is the Master Plan. As the Board has maneuvered the many steps to have a viable plan, Operations has been involved giving input from the Operational side - a key ingredient in the ultimate success. As they say, stay tuned. The website and independent letters from the Renovation Chair and President keep you updated on things. Speaking of the website, this is part of the Strategic Plan - keeping the website current with updated policies, by-laws and information. An update will be posted on July 5th. Board Governance, Club Management and Staff Development continues to be a priority. The Board receives articles and information monthly on Trends and Fads, and knowing the difference. Fads are fleeting they come and go, and can cost considerable money if you are not careful. Trends on the other hand bring members in for the enjoyment and value of their Club. For example, one trend the Club embraced long ago is Fitness. GCC continues investing in the most updated equipment and programs while reviewing participation. This all adds value. Another Strategic Initiative is Membership and Membership retention; keeping existing members
Page 2
With the size of the GCC membership we count on feedback to continue the good work and strive to be the location of choice on many fronts. As always, keeping me informed of the positive and not so good only make for a better more enjoyable experience. It is the not knowing that hurts. For more information on the six-month GCC Strategic Plan from operations, please see the website. Warm personal regards, Terra S.H. Waldron, CCM, CCE General Manager/COO
