Greensboro Country Club March | April 2022
Who is this handsome guy?! Look inside to find out...!
Interim General Manager's Message (336) 275-8506
Dear Members, After our 2021 reprieve, winter certainly hit hard this year with snow, ice and extremely low temperatures. Though they couldn’t always hit the links, it certainly didn’t keep our Members away from the dart boards. Our Dart League has been a tremendous success with over 200 participants. The Father & Daughter Valentine’s Dance was a hit as well and I want to give tremendous kudos to our staff for their efforts to provide a fantastic experience to our Members despite our limited facilities and weather challenges. Construction continued even though the weather didn't always cooperate. Our new pools were poured, the pool deck was backfilled and the fitness addition took shape. Work continues inside the main clubhouse with drywall beginning in the lower-level kitchen along with the replacement of part of our HVAC system. The lower-level Member restrooms will open by March 7th, at which time we will be closing the main-level restrooms for renovation. It’s incredible to see everything come together and the new Club is going to be spectacular!
January | February 2022
I know everyone is eagerly anticipating the reopening of our Fitness Center and between the renovated space and new equipment, it’s certain to be a hot spot! And just in time for the final touches on the existing space, we are absolutely thrilled to welcome our new Director of Fitness, Health and Wellness, Cheyanne Clause. Cheyanne has her Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and Master’s in Health Promotion and brings with her extensive experience in creating new programming, opening new facilities and developing staff. Cheyanne joins the team on March 1st so please give her a warm welcome! Our paddle tennis league is in action and we have started construction on our four new Pickleball Courts at Irving Park. This puts Greensboro Country Club in the unique position of being the only facility in the area with pickle, paddle and tennis (both indoor and outdoor) courts. And while I’m on the topic of racquet sports, we are in the final stages of our search and will be announcing our new Director of Racquet Sports in the coming weeks so be on the lookout. Working with the McMahon Group has been a fantastic experience and we had several outstanding candidates. On behalf of the GCC team and the search committee, I can safely say we are all extremely excited to see what our new Director has to offer for the Club.

During this time of renovation, increased use of the Farm location has continued with Breakfast for Dinner at the Farm selling out in both January and February. And you won’t want to miss this year’s Spring Carnival on April 8th! It’s going to be an event to remember for all ages. We also look forward to seeing all of you for Easter Brunch, which will be held on both campuses. As we move into spring, we look forward to seeing everyone back outdoors on the golf course and the tennis courts. And don’t forget the Sadie Hawkins Mother-Son Dance and the Easter Egg Hunt at Irving Park! On a personal note, I have truly enjoyed getting to know so many of you over these last few months and I genuinely appreciate your feedback and support. I am so excited for the future of GCC and all that our new facilities will bring and I certainly hope to see you at the Club soon! Sincerely, Michelle Lunney Interim General Manager/CFO
Save the Date! Grand Reopening Festivities of the Pool Facilities at Irving Park!

Club News
(336) 275-8506
Dear Members, Since its founding in 1909, Greensboro Country Club has affectionately been known as G.C.C. (for short) to Members and the greater Triad community alike. The GCC initials, in many varied fonts and formats, have served as the main branding logo over the Club’s long and storied history. Though Greensboro Country Club remains the only GCC in town, it is not unique to the state and region. There are many clubs that share the Club's nickname and a similar monogrammed crest. As branding has become more important in the private club world, many of the most prestigious clubs in the country have adopted two marks to represent them - often a club’s monogrammed initials and, separately, a distinct icon that is easily recognizable by peers and appreciated by members. Several years ago, the Greensboro Country Club Board commissioned a committee of Members and staff to try to identify an appropriate icon for the Club. The goal was to create an icon that would: 1) honor the Club’s heritage, 2) encapsulate the synthesis of GCC’s two campus model, and 3) pay homage to the Club’s recreational amenities. With that mission in mind, the committee hired the world-renowned Lee Wybranski who has developed logos, created artwork, and built branding plans for organizations such as the USGA, the PGA, and many top-tier private clubs. His work can be found at www.leewybranksi.com. After exploring dozens of concepts over multiple years, in December, the Board unanimously approved the peacock logo you see below. Why the peacock? The committee felt the peacock icon best captured the project’s three main goals. It honors the man that started it all. Though famed architect Donald Ross ultimately designed the in-town golf course that is played today, his protege, John Peacock, laid out the original nine-hole Irving Park routing in 1911. An ancient symbol of pride, the peacock, often mischievous, also captures the unique “town and country” aura of our Club. Peacocks can be useful in rural, farm settings, but they are just as comfortable strutting around urban, formal areas. In fact, in the mid-1900s, a peacock, the pet of a GCC Member, roamed the streets of Irving Park and Club property. Finally, the plumage of the icon incorporates the Club’s two most popular activities - golf and racquet sports.
Sincerely, David Egerton Immediate Past President Board of Directors
January | February 2022
The peacock icon is distinctive. It is sure to turn some heads, facilitate inquiry from the curious, and, hopefully, earn some approving nods from those that appreciate distinct and whimsical logos. The Club intends to roll out the new peacock logo over the coming year on select apparel/merchandise and across less formal, recreational facilities on both campuses. For those Members that prefer the more traditional GCC monogram logo, please know that the Club will continue using it in formal Club areas and on apparel/merchandise as desired by Members.

Membership (336) 275-8506
Invite a New Member to GCC! 2021 was a great year for GCC Membership and we are encouraged by your participation! Thank you for supporting your Club by sponsoring new Members! As a reminder, GCC relies on Member invitation and Sponsors for its new Members. Sponsorship is easy, you will help grow the Club, and you will receive some great rewards along the way! •
The process starts with an invitation to join by you, the Sponsoring Member. A Prospective Member can only complete an application with the signature of a Sponsoring Member. Typically, this begins with the Sponsoring Member delivering a Membership Packet, which includes an application, to the Prospective Member. The Sponsoring Member is the catalyst and the “invitation” privilege extension.
•
A Sponsoring Member should help the Prospective Member in securing three Member endorsement letters which will be submitted with the application. If a Prospective Member is married, the spouse will also need three endorsement letters (married Members may write and sign a joint letter for married Prospective Members). The completed application should be submitted, with three Member endorsement letters, to the Membership Department with the application fee.
•
The Sponsoring Member will attend the New Member Interview with the Prospective New Member. The Sponsoring Member has the distinct privilege of introducing the Prospective New Member to the Membership Committee during the New Member Interview, which is held once a month.
•
After each new Member is approved by the Board of Directors, they meet with the Membership Director for a new Member orientation. Then the fun begins!
Sponsors receive $100 credit to their account, dinner for four and a bottle of wine (total value of $250) and choice of GCC logo item (tumbler, umbrella or blanket). Sponsor more than one new Member and the Sponsor will be entered into the drawing for our special Culinary Event. Congratulations to Charles Lucas, who was our winner of the extravagant 2021 Culinary Event! We will celebrate 2022 Sponsors with a party in early 2023!
Sponsor a new GCC Member today! Call Lori Frasier at (336) 275-8506. Welcome New Members! January | February 2022

We are excited to announce that Adam Singer has been promoted to the Head Professional role at the Farm. He will be responsible for leading our assistant professionals and outside services team in daily operations, tournament administration and management of the Farm Golf Professional Shop. Adam came to Greensboro Country Club in December 2020, and he has been overseeing all the Club’s golf events in the Tournament Director role. Prior to arriving at GCC, he gained experience at clubs including Monterey Peninsula Country Club (Pebble Beach, CA), Old Edwards Club (Highlands, NC), Chechessee Creek Club (Oakatie, SC), and Fiddlesticks Country Club (Ft. Myers, FL). Adam excelled at all these facilities and came to us highly recommended from each of them. In his time so far at GCC, Adam has demonstrated exceptional organization, a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and an instinctual hand at service. He is a bit of a club junkie, collecting retro golf clubs and always following the latest limited-release drops for one-off putters, headcovers and other gear. As a PGA Member since 2012, Adam has shown that he is an exceptional golfer, competing regularly in CGA and Carolinas PGA events where he has rarely missed a cut (or fairway!). All of this has earned him the trust and respect of our entire team, and he will naturally rise into this leadership role within our team. Please join us in congratulating Adam on his new role as Head Professional at the Farm!

Eskimo Open - February 19, 2022 The Eskimo Open is the first event of the 2022 Golf Season here at GCC! The name is quite fitting as the temperature was 43 degrees as 86 golfers teed off at the Farm. This better ball of partners format is a great way to shake off the rust from the off-season and begin to get in the swing of things for the golf season! The golfers enjoyed some of GCC's famous fried chicken as well as some hors d’oeuvres following the completion of play. The team of Skip Corneliussen and Wesley Stallings took home the Gross Division with a score of 65 and Aaron Messick and Ron Pitts took home the Net Division with a score of 67!

Did you read about our new logo on page 3? Our new logo is inspired by John Peacock, the man who built the first golf course at GCC in 1911. A winter resident at Pinehurst, it was John Peacock that brought the great Donald Ross, who redesigned the golf course in the 1920s. Our new mark captures the sport, style and fun that have defined this great Club ever since.
