Greensboro Country Club May | June 2022
Interim General Manager's Message (336) 275-8506
Dear Members, Spring has finally arrived! And with warmer weather come more opportunities to get outside and spend time with your GCC family. Though April did not bring the finest weather, over 430 of you made it out to the Spring Carnival and more than 350 were in attendance for the Easter Egg Hunt. It is so great to see our families back at the Club, many with brand new additions! April also featured an exciting paddle ball tournament with our new Racquets Director. We opened the outdoor courts at both Irving Park and the Farm, continued our outdoor fitness classes and we saw a significant pick up in play on both golf courses as the weather improved. But as we set our sights on the coming months, there is so much to look forward to in May and June!
May | June 2022
May kicks off with a fantastic wine dinner featuring J. Lohr wines on May 3rd with Winery Ambassador David Hyde. And coming up on May 5th, we have the Meet & Greet for our new Director of Racquet Sports, Mark Ficks, and Director of Fitness, Health & Wellness, Cheyanne Clouse. We hope you can join us and hear about their vision for the future of these departments at GCC. As an added perk, you will get a sneak peek at the newly renovated Fitness Center as we prepare to open! Immediately following the Meet & Greet, we have our adults “What If” Mixer out on the IP courts. Be sure to check out the Racquet Sports section of the newsletter to see all of the exciting events Mark has planned this spring! There is no better way to celebrate Mom than with our Mother’s Day Brunch on May 8th at Irving Park or at the Farm. For our golfers, we have our McAlister Cup from May 20th to the 22nd followed by a fantastic opportunity on June 2nd to hear sportswriter Rick Reilly speak about his new book, “So Help Me Golf.” On May 24th, we have the great privilege of having TEDx Speaker and author, Doug Stewart, join us to talk about Leadership in Today’s Dynamic World. But I must admit, the most exciting thing about May will be the opening of our brand-new Irving Park swim complex! Join us Memorial Day weekend and I know you will not be disappointed. If you have looked at the latest Renovation Update pictures, you will know that it’s all coming together beautifully! And while I’m on the topic of swimming, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that our Blue Dolphins swim team is just getting started as we welcome back Coach Eva. If you haven’t

registered your kids yet, please contact Shannon O’York for details. For the adults, our Aqua Fitness classes will be kicking off in June and we are actively working on additional offerings with our new facility to get you in the pool! Finally, don’t forget to SAVE THE DATE! Our Pool Grand Opening weekend events from June 24th through the 26th will be a weekend you will not want to miss! Formal invitations will be arriving shortly but I do want to share the highlights. Friday night will be an adults only Havana Nights party on the pool deck featuring live music by Caliente. On Saturday, we will have an Athletics Open House followed by a Family Fun Night with an exciting finale! The weekend will culminate with Sunday Brunch on the pool deck. This will be a “Members Only” weekend to thank you all for your loyalty to the Club during this renovation process. As always, the key to our Club’s success is you, our Members. I want to thank you all for your patience and support during this renovation and its challenges. We have seen significant growth in new members as we approach the reopening of our Irving Park campus. Our newest Members are listed in the Membership section of the newsletter and our posted applicants are listed in the Membership section of “My Club” on the website. Please be sure to give them a fond GCC welcome. Now is a great time to sponsor a new Member! Have a wonderful spring, and I look forward to seeing everyone around the Club! Sincerely, Michelle Lunney Interim General Manager/CFO

Rick Reilly will admire and unload on all the great figures in the game, from Phil Mickelson to Bobby Jones to the simple reason Jack Nicklaus is better than Tiger Woods. Reilly will explain why we should stop hating Bryson DeChambeau unless we hate genius, the greatest upset in women’s golf history, and why Ernie Els throws away every ball that makes a birdie. Plus all the Greg Norman stories Reilly has never been able to tell before, and the great fun of being Jim Nantz. Connecting it all will be the story of Reilly’s own personal journey through the game, especially as it connects to his tumultuous relationship with his alcoholic father, and how the two eventually reconciled through golf. This is Reilly’s valentine to golf, a cornucopia of golf stories that no golfer will want to be without. Please visit the website to view the menu of heavy hors d'oeuvres offered. | Cocktails by Member Signature $30 per person | Includes signed copy of Rick Reilly's book "So Help Me Golf"

Despite cold and blustery conditions, the 2022 Gentlemen's Breakfast Tournament was a huge success. 64 players, all organized in ABCD teams, arrived at 8:30 am for breakfast with a 10:00 am shotgun start. The format for this event was a shamble, where all four players hit tee balls and best drive is chosen like captains’ choice. Once the best drive is selected, each player must finish the hole with their own ball. The low score was taken for each hole. Prizes were awarded to the low net and gross teams. Congratulations to Gary Rankin, Daniel Craft, David Johnson and Pepe Silva for winning the gross division and congratulations to Steve Hendrickson, Pete Beeler, Sam Alem and Alex Audliet for winning the net division.

Four-Ball Match Play Gentlemen
Ladies
The season long Four-Ball Match Play Championship consists of 64 2-man teams that play 18-hole matches in a net better ball format against each other. The 64-team bracket is set up like the March Madness basketball tournament with the defending champions receiving the #1 overall seed and the rest of the teams seeded randomly. There are deadlines for each round of matches to be played and teams that lose their first match, are entered into the consolation bracket, so teams are guaranteed 2 matches. After the first round of matches, losing teams are eliminated from the event. The first matches will be starting at the end of March and the champions will be crowned in October.
The Ladies Golf Four Ball is a season-long match play event with two person teams. Once the bracket is created, partners will play a match (either 9 or 18 holes at teams’ discretion) against another team. The date and time of the match is totally flexible and will be determined by the two teams, with each round of matches having to be completed across an entire month. The winning team moves onto the next round of the championship bracket, or the defeated teams will be entered into a consolation round of matches.

Men's "Fight Club" Pickleball Night! Wednesday, May 25th | 6:30 p.m.
Join us for our first ever Men's "Fight Club" Pickleball event. This is geared towards players who already know how to score and play this terrific sport, and will utilize a "winnersstay-up" format with different partner pairings for every single match. Light hors d'oeuvres and beer throughout the evening! $19 per person
This will be a fun evening of parents and kids (aged 10 & up) having a blast on the pickleball courts. When you register, please let us know how many will be attending from your family. We can accommodate 20 participants for this event. Our Racquet Sports "Fun Technicians" will be on-hand to help anyone out who might not know how to play. Refreshments and food provided! $25 per family
