Greensboro Country Club November | December 2022

COO/General Manager's Message (336) 275-8506

Dear Members, The train is coming into the station and as we near the long-awaited opening of 1909, the Family Grill, and Sunset Dining Room, we look forward to serving you soon in these new locations.

happening around the Club and our team has created many holiday events for Members of all ages. Make your reservations for the Holiday Tasting Market, Thanksgiving, Gingerbread House Workshop, Holiday Buffet and - of course - the return of the Gala on Saturday, December 10!

It was our mission to create a dining experience for every occasion. Want to come for lunch or dinner with the kids? The Family Grill will be your family friendly destination. A drink after work with friends, or for the après golf location? 1909 is the perfect spot with its sports bar atmosphere. Relax for a nice dinner with friends or celebrate a special occasion, start off with a cocktail and maybe some appetizers in Sunset Bar and Lounge, followed by dinner in one of the four dining rooms. You can also dine al fresco on the terrace overlooking the pool on one side and the golf course on the other!

I am so looking forward seeing you at the Club and I hope you share your feedback with us as we strive to improve the facilities, services, and member experiences. I wish all of you a festive Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.

November | December 2022

With opening not one, but three new dining destinations, we added many new staff members to cover all areas. I urge you to please be patient as these staff members are just as new and overwhelmed with the new areas as you might be. Please also watch for future announcements of hours of operations for each outlet, special events, menus, and we also revised the dress code for each location. You can find this information on our GCC website, but we will certainly also send out emails informing you of these updates as we open all the new spaces. As the month of November will certainly display a long-awaited change at the Club and will probably be known as the opening month after a very long renovation project, we must ask you for continued support and patience as we continue the clean up from the construction and work on a few more projects that still need to be tied into the new spaces. These projects include the staircase, the lobby, the Irving Room, etc. With the holidays upon us and the Club's longawaited opening of new spaces, it is the perfect time to spend more time at the Club. There is much

Captain's Cup One of the most popular summer events at Greensboro Country Club is Captain’s Cup! Captain’s Cup is a men’s golf league that plays each Tuesday evening at Irving Park. The league consists of over 200 players across 10 teams that compete in 9-hole matches over nine weeks during the summer. The top eight teams after the regular season then advance to the three-week playoff. Captain’s Cup is always a lot of fun and a great way to meet and play golf with new people. Congratulations to the Ready Golf Reds, who were captained by David Anderson, for capturing the 2022 Captain’s Cup title. The Ready Golf Reds will represent Greensboro Country Club well in the Home & Home Matches against Forsyth Country Club!

Upcoming Events

On September 6, the Ladies Jubilee was a big hit at the Farm, with all 18 holes setup as unique Par Threes. Over 30 women came out to enjoy this fun and speedy format! Hurricane Ian unfortunately forced us to cancel the 2022 Ladies Member-Guest the weekend of September 30. We are already incredibly excited to host this Wild West event in 2023!

Programs for Juniors - Irving Park Fall III: November 7 - December 21 (5 weeks) *There are no classes Thanksgiving week*

Junior Development Program

Junior Competitive Program

Junior Development classes will stress the FUNdamentals while teaching the BEST way to play tennis. Smaller courts/nets, and slower bouncing tennis balls may be used by our "Fun Technicians" which will allow the kids to "play" tennis sooner. The name of the class refers to the e type of ball that is used. We utilize a progression of low-compression balls with the younger kids, that results in a much quicker learning curve.

Tuesday 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. or Thursday 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Monday 3:45 - 4:30 p.m. or Wednesday 3:45 - 4:30 p.m.

All fees listed are for one day per week for a five-week session. Sign up for as many classes as you like!

Athletic Enhancement

This class is designed for the kids that are in our "Junior Competitive" class as a VERY valuable add on to their training. Ask your instructor when this class will be offered!

'Tis the Season for Paddle Tennis! Let's play some paddle! Paddle tennis is a very social sport, known for camaraderie and good sportsmanship. It’s an easy sport for players of all ages and skill levels to learn and enjoy. Paddle tennis is a game of finesse, patience and strategy. It can require speed, power and quick thinking, or be just plain social. GCC has two paddle tennis courts with a heated viewing deck at the Irving Park facility. The Club's Paddle programs are offered from November 1 through the end of March, and are a great opportunity to socialize and create camaraderie. We have the finest and most comprehensive lesson program offered in the area. Watch your email, the website and the mobile app for more paddle opportunities this winter!

Fitness Spotlights Client Spotlight: Mr. Bob Rapp Mr. Bob Rapp has been training three times per week for an hour with Zack since August. At 96 years old, he very well might be one of the oldest exercisers at the Club. Mr. Rapp has been working on increasing his upper body strength and lower body endurance to help him live a better life. As we talked to Mr. Rapp, we learned that he did not begin working out until his 50s and didn’t get started with a trainer until his late 60s. He said that he wished he had gotten started with a trainer earlier because he realized he wasn’t getting the most out of his workouts. Working out incorrectly is like practicing a golf swing, you do it repeatedly wrong, then it becomes a habit, and it is so much harder to break. But with a trainer they watch you to make sure you are doing things correctly and help you right away so you can’t do it wrong. Mr. Rapp inspires the staff in the Fitness Center each time that he comes in, and helps us stay motivated, because if he can make his fitness and health and priority, then so can we!

Class Spotlight: Golf Mobility In September we hosted our first Golf Mobility Class. This sold-out class was led by trainers Zack Biesemeyer and Jamie Curtis. Designed to improve the mobility needed in the thoracic spine, shoulders and hips to allow for the most optimal golf swing, this class was one hour of non-stop activity. The class started with a warm-up, followed by a significant amount of time in rotational exercises and drills with your golf club. It ended with some circuit-style training that helps golfers get the most out of their golf swing.

November | December 2022

In case you missed it, Golf Mobility is now offered on our Group Fitness Schedule twice per week with Zack!

Upon completion of the course, teens may use the facility unsupervised. This class will be three total days of hands-on practical learning with a final day that allows participants to practice their skills in a workout with our personal trainers supervising and evaluating them. The goal is that GCC Fitness, Health & Wellness will help create an environment in its Fitness Center that encourages respect and courtesy to all its members while also ensuring that safety measures are followed so that the risk of injury is lowered. This class has three parts: 1) a classroom component, 2) a practice session where teens will learn how to properly warm up, how to choose the proper weights, how to spot, and how to fail just in case, and 3) a test component.

Passing the Teen Orientation Class is contingent upon attendance of all dates of the class, for the entirety of the class.
