Cada destino nos deja algo, ya sea un recuerdo, diversión o aprendizaje. En esa edición, Toluca, Campeche y Puerto Vallarta se erigen como las ciudades idóneas para pasar unos días de descanso y entretenimiento. Las playas de Puerto Vallarta y sus atardeceres son los confidentes perfectos para los novios o recién casados. Campeche es un espacio familiar en el que la plaza central es un buen lugar para alimentar a las palomas o tomar un café. Y en Toluca, rodeada de la belleza natural de los bosques y dentro de la ciudad, se erige el Cosmovitral, con vitrales de Leopoldo Flores, que en la actualidad alberga un jardín botánico. Las sensaciones y los colores de los destinos bien se pueden plasmar en cuadros, tal como lo hace la pintora Marcela Cadena, quien en esta edición nos comparte algunas obras que han surgido de sus experiencias. También recordamos al escritor Ray Bradbury, quien con sus novelas de ciencia ficción alimentó la imaginación de niños, jóvenes y adultos. El Universo entero está de luto, pero queda el consuelo de que sus historias permanecerán. El pasado 10 de mayo se presentó Sir Paul McCartney ante más de 200 mil personas en el Zócalo de la Ciudad de México. Previo al concierto, Sir Paul McCartney estuvo en el Holiday Inn ® Zócalo para tener un ensayo con su banda, que duró dos horas. Todo el equipo del hotel, incluyendo el Director de Ventas, Arturo Rodríguez, estuvo al pendiente de cada solicitud del cantante. El mágico y misterioso viaje que el británico emprendió con los mexicanos arrancó al ritmo de “Hello Goodbye”, donde las luces de miles de celulares y cámaras iluminaron el Centro Histórico, al igual que al entonar “The Long and winding road”. Generaciones de amantes de The Beatles cantaban al unísono cada tema sin importar la edad.

s una obviedad, pero Puerto Vallarta es agua, es mar. Claro que es mucho más, pero eso es lo primero que me viene a la mente cuando pienso en este enigmático lugar. Una fiesta eterna es lo segundo, pero la fiesta no sería nada sin el suave rumor de las olas, sin la abundancia del océano que seduce sin decir una sola palabra, sin ese azul del agua comiéndose al sol para regalarnos inolvidables atardeceres. Puerto Vallarta es la segunda ciudad de importancia en Jalisco y gracias a su belleza ha ganado títulos como el “mejor lugar para retirarse en el mundo” por la AARP (Asociación Americana de Personas Retiradas); fue nombrada “Mejor Destino de Vacaciones en México” por www.USNews.com, ambos en 2010. Al año siguiente se hizo acreedor al nombramiento de la “Ciudad más amigable del mundo”, según la opinión de los lectores de Condé Nast Traveler, y este año fue considerada como “el lugar más romántico de México 2012” de acuerdo con la página www.About.com. PASEO POR LA CIUDAD

La experiencia en los viajes es lo que determina si regresas o no, por eso Puerto Vallarta está seguro de que los turistas regresarán. Disfrutarás desde largas caminatas por la playa, el colorido de los mercados, artesanías surrealistas, el bullicio de un remodelado malecón que nunca duerme, la delicia de unos camarones asados acompañados con una cerveza con clamato hasta la fiesta multitudinaria que termina con un luminoso amanecer. Los “recuerditos” están a la orden del día y podrás escoger entre pintorescos alebrijes, coloridos y enigmáticas figuras de animales con símbolos y diseños que datan de hace siglos y que cobran vida gracias a las minuciosas manos de los indios Huicholes; también hay barro de Tlaquepaque, Tonalá y Oaxaca, joyería de Taxco, vidrio soplado, figuras de ónix y obsidiana, calaveras en papel maché que recuerdan el arte del célebre grabador José Guadalupe Posada y la lista sigue, gracias a que la imaginación y habilidad de los pintores hacen lo suyo dibujando catedrales, cerros, calles empedradas, en fin, coloridas pinturas para que cuelgues en las paredes de tu casa y suspires cada que te topas con ellas. En la pintoresca plaza principal se puede admirar el Templo de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, una emblemática construcción de 1918 a la que en 1965 se le agregó una corona de concreto sostenida por ocho ángeles. Después de todo esto, si lo que quieres es descansar ve a la popular “playa de los muertos” para tumbarte en la arena y esperar el atardecer, por experiencia propia y si vas con tu pareja, te recomendaría tomarla de la mano caminar por la playa, alejarte un poco del bullicio, compartir música y en ese marco perfecto pronunciar palabras que se quedarán en la memoria. Como las que dije hace dos años: “aquí nos vamos a casar”. After all this, if you want to relax go to the popular beach of the dead to lie in the sand and wait for the sunset; from personal experience and especially if you’re going with your significant other, I would recommend walking along the beach holding hands, walking away from the bustle, sharing music and in this perfect setting, saying words that will stay with you forever. Just as I said two years ago: “We’re getting married here.” The following year, with the beach and the moon as our witnesses, we got married. “I give you my sunshine, my light, my beach, I share with you my joy and my sorrow ... But in my beach, the sound of the sea will be there for you, the waves break,” Ely Guerra sang, and since that night I have not stopped wondering how much fate owed me, that it repaid me with this love and the beach of Puerto Vallarta.

“L

o más increíble de caminar por la ciudad de Campeche es imaginar que por esas calles estuvieron piratas, emperatrices, nobles y no tan nobles. Es un lugar colonial con un ambiente seguro que te invita a conocer su belleza natural como cenotes, playas y zonas arqueológicas”, dice Karla Buenfil Ayala, Nuestra Belleza Campeche 2011. Quizá sea por eso que la ciudad ha sido escenario de varias películas como “Pecado Original” (2001) con Angelina Jolie y Antonio Banderas. Posteriormente se grabó la telenovela “Pasión” (2007) protagonizada por Susana González y Fernando Colunga. En 2008 se filmó la película basada en la vida del guerrillero argentino, que se tituló “Che” (2008) que fue interpretado por Benicio del Toro. “La escena en la que aparece El Che entrando a Santa Clara, Cuba, se grabó en el parque principal de la ciudad, pero para que quedara la toma se tuvo que grabar como doce veces, porque los extras volteaban a ver a la cámara cuando se les indicaba que no lo hicieran; ya cuando por fin salió la escena, entró Benicio del Toro a cuadro y se tropezó con una reja de lámina que estaba debajo de un árbol y casi se cae; pese a la impaciencia del director, se tuvo que repetir la escena como seis veces más hasta que quedó”, recuerda Martín Acosta Pacheco, reportero y extra en esa película. La producción más reciente fue “Memorias de mis putas tristes”, basada en una obra de Gabriel García Márquez, que se filmó en noviembre pasado. La belleza colonial de Campeche, de su catedral y el parque principal con quiosco hace muy fácil transportarte a otra época. Tal vez ese sentimiento sea el que impulsa a los directores a recrear escenarios del pasado.

Maybe that’s why the city has served as a set for several films, including “Original Sin” (2001) with Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas. Mexican telenovela or soap opera “Passion” (2007), starring Susana Gonzalez and Fernando Colunga, was also shot there. In 2008 a movie based on the life of Argentine guerrilla leader, titled “Che” (2008), was filmed, with the lead character played by Benicio del Toro. “The scene that shows “Che” coming to Santa Clara, Cuba, was filmed in the main city park, but the scene had to be shot twelve times, because extras would look at the camera when they were told not to; when the scene was finally done, Benicio del Toro walked into the shot and

Edzná significa “La casa de los Itzaes” y cuenta con un espectáculo multimedia de luz y sonido los fines de semana. Edzná means “House of the Itza” and it features a multimedia light and sound show on weekends.

PALIZADA Y es que Campeche guarda una historia llena corsarios que llegaban a asaltar a la ciudad, la cual se defendía por medio de los fuertes, los cuales aun existen y se puede apreciar los cañones que se usaban en la época. Uno de los piratas más temidos era Laurent Graff “El Lorencillo”. Cuenta la leyenda que en 1672 llegó a la playa de San Román y el 31 de marzo quemó el astillero y dos fragatas, y después asaltó un barco que venía de Veracruz. Otra visita de Lorencillo a Campeche fue en 1685, pero no llegó solo, estuvo con el pirata Gramont y permanecieron dos meses ahí. Después del ataque, la población de la villa quedó reducida a una tercera parte. Estas historias son fáciles de vivirlas en un verdadero barco pirata que se ha convertido en la atracción del restaurante “Faro del Morro” que se encuentra al final de malecón de Campeche. El lugar no sólo se distingue por la nave sino por los platillos a base de mariscos como los camarones empanizados rellenos de queso crema.

Palizada destaca por sus casas con tejas estilo francés de Marsella y el río, en el que se transportaban bienes. En la actualidad se practica la pesca deportiva y es perfecto para pasar unos días. GENTE CÁLIDA

“Dos de los principales atributos de los campechanos son su calidez y amabilidad. Cuando visites Campeche, no dejes de asistir al espectáculo de luz y sonido de la Puerta de Tierra, tomar un paseo en el tranvía El Guapo, salir a correr al malecón y disfrutar de la maravillosa vista, y visitar la zona arqueológica de Calakmul”, comenta Karla Buenfil Ayala. La ciudad aún conserva el trazo original que data de siglo XVI y cuida sus vestigios coloniales, como la muralla que está conformada por dos lienzos, siete baluartes, dos puertas de acceso (Puerta de Mar y Puerta de Tierra) y los fuertes San José el Alto y San Miguel. “Lo que más me gusta de Campeche es que es un estado seguro, ya que puedes salir a caminar a las tres de la mañana por el centro y no pasa nada. Me gusta también su cultura y, sobretodo, la gastronomía”, agrega.

2 SABOR PARA CADA DÍA

Al estar en Campeche es indispensable probar los deliciosos camarones al coco, camarones a la plancha; pescado y marisco en paté o coctel, o el pan de cazón (tortillas con frijoles refritos, cazón guisado y salsa de jitomate). Si vas con los amigos, de entrada pidan las patas de cangrejo acompañadas de aderezos, o el chile xcatic relleno de cazón y capeado. En Campeche es tradición cocinar algunos platillos, por ejemplo los lunes son de puchero; jueves de bistec de cazuela y viernes, pescado fresco. El pibinal (elote horneado bajo la tierra), tortillas de maíz nuevo, pavo en escabeche, panetelas, pan negro y las campechanas (hojaldras de pan dulce), son otras opciones para probar. “Los invito a que visiten el estado de Campeche, porque estoy segura de que se van a enamorar, van a pasarla muy bien disfrutando de mucha tranquilidad, buena comida y lo más importante, se sentirán como en casa”, expresa Karla.

One of the most feared pirates was Laurent Graff “El Lorencillo”. Legend has it that in 1672 he reached the beach of San Roman and that on March 31st he burned the shipyard and two frigates, and then attacked a ship coming from Veracruz. Lorencillo paid Campeche another visit in 1685, but this time he brought the pirate Gramont along, and they stayed there for two months. After the attack, the village population was reduced to one third. These stories are easy to relive on a real pirate ship that has become the attraction of the restaurant “Faro del Morro”, located at the end of Malecon de Campeche. The place stands out not only because of the ship, but also by its seafood dishes, such as its breaded shrimp stuffed with cream cheese.

If you go with friends, order the crab legs with dressing, or the dogfish stuffed xcatic chili pepper as an appetizer. In Campeche, some dishes are traditionally made on a specific weekday: Mondays are for puchero, Thursdays are for casserole steak, and Fridays are for fresh fish. Pibinal (corn baked underground), new corn tortillas, marinated turkey, panetelas, black bread and campechanas (sweet pastries) are other options to try.

Ahí se encuentran comercios con artesanías y está conectado con la Plaza Fray Andrés de Castro. Una de las edificaciones más recientes fueron las Torres del Bicentenario que se inauguraron el año pasado. En las noches se ilumina con los colores de la bandera. Así podrás sentir el espíritu patriótico que invade al país cada septiembre.

Uno de los lugares que dan vida a Toluca es el Cosmovitral que pertenece a la época del porfiriato y de estilo art nouveau. Antes era el mercado 16 de septiembre pero ahora alberga al jardín botánico y al hombre cósmico. Este ambiente permite alejarse de la ciudad y estar en un entorno de calma y vegetación tropical. La temática de los vitrales es la dualidad de vida. El encargado de hacerlos fue el mexiquense Leopoldo Flores Valdez. Para celebrar la vida al estilo toluquense se tienen que brindar con los “moscos”, licor de frutas y pulque. Así, al son del mariachi se puede cantar a la tierra más mexicana, y desde luego, acompañar la velada con antojitos como chicharrones, manitas de puerco en vinagre, queso de puerco y chorizos verdes con hierbas. De postre nada mejor que los dulces de leche, dulces cristalizados y limones rellenos de coco. Toluca no sólo da excelentes deportistas y pintores, sino también artesanos, por eso, en la Casa de las Artesanías se tiene que apreciar los árboles de la vida de Metepec, rebozos de Tenancingo, tapetes de Temoaya, orfebrería de San Felipe del Progreso, alfarería de Tecaxic y Calixtlahuaca y objetos en obsidiana de San Martín de las Pirámides, entre otros.

That’s why its arcaded walkways are nationally known for having 118 arches with balconies, their construction beginning in 1832. They are divided into three galleries, where shops selling crafts can be found. The walkways are connected to the Fray Andres de Castro square. Some of the newer buildings include the Bicentennial Towers, which opened last year. At night they are lit up in the colors of the Mexican flag. That way you’ll be able to experience the patriotic spirit that pervades the country each September.

a línea de muebles Glassísimo nos presenta, de esta manera, una propuesta hecha de puro cristal, ¿Habrá algo más sencillo y elegante que la transparencia pura de este material? Comenzó como un proyecto de diversificación de un grupo de empresas que se dedica a la construcción de fachadas y edificios de cristal. Aunque tienen un apellido extranjero, los hermanos Hein y Hans Wulfert, diseñadores de Glassísimo y que residen actualmente en Guadalajara, nacieron en México y heredaron la pasión de su padre por el diseño, quien tiene más de 30 años en el medio. Fue de este modo como ambos se inspiraron a crear su propia línea de muebles, y comenzaron a tener esa fascinación por el vidrio gracias al trabajo de las líneas italianas de muebles Fiam y Glas. “Desde tiempos más remotos se ha utilizado este material para adornar catedrales y edificios, pero gracias a la tecnología que hay ahora, está resurgiendo un auge del vidrio, y las posibilidades ahora son mucho mayores”, comenta Hein Wulfert, quien tiene plena confianza en el material, pues afirma que ningún otro de sus imitaciones (como el acrílico, por ejemplo), puede llegar a tener las mismas propiedades y resistencia. No obstante, los hermanos Wulfert han encontrado la manera de fabricar su propio estilo y ser auténticos, sobre todo dentro de un país que no está acostumbrado a la mueblería de cristal. Principalmente, además de hacer muebles estéticos, también se basan en la funcionalidad y comodidad del usuario. Es por eso que muchos clientes se sorprenden al sentarse en una de las sillas de Glassísimo y darse cuenta de que en realidad está ergonómicamente bien hecha. Según confiesa Hein Wulfert, el principal reto ha sido romper el paradigma que se tiene sobre el material en sí: “una persona me preguntó si la silla lo resistiría, aunque éste tuviera sobrepeso. Le respondí que se podría sentar él y varias personas encima y aún así lo resistiría”. Y es que el cristal es un material muy resistente si es bien aplicado, y es por eso que Glassísimo cuenta con la mayor tecnología en templadoras, hornos de curvado y cortadoras.

This premise has inspired most of the times we live in and has been reflected in all fields of society, from our manners to the products we use every day; of course, it is also a position that has been particularly embraced by design.

he Glassísimo furniture line introduces a concept made of pure glass. What could be simpler or more elegant than the pure transparency of this material? It began as a diversification project for a group of companies dedicated to building glass facades and buildings. Despite their foreign name, the brothers Hein and Hans Wulfert, Glassísimo designers currently living in Guadalajara, were born in Mexico. From their father they inherited a passion for design, as he has worked in the industry for over 30 years. That’s how they were both inspired to create their own furniture line, and became fascinated with glass through the work of Italian furniture lines Fiam and Glas. “Since ancient times this material has been used to adorn cathedrals and buildings, but it is thanks to current technology that glass is booming again, and the possibilities now are far wider,” says Hein Wulfert, who is completely confident in the material, as he states that imitation glass (such as acrylic, for example) could never have the same properties or resistance. However, the Wulfert brothers have found a way to create a style of their own and to be authentic, especially in a country that is not used to glass furniture. In addition to creating aesthetic furniture, they’re also mainly based on functionality and comfort. That’s why many customers find themselves surprised when they sit on a Glassísimo chair and realize that it actually is ergonomically designed. Hein Wulfert confesses that the biggest challenge has been trying to break the paradigm about the material itself: “Someone asked me whether the chair would resist even though he was overweight. I answered that it was sturdy enough to have him as well as other people on top of him sitting on it.” And the thing is that glass is a very resistant material if well implemented, and that’s why Glassísimo has the latest technology in tempering and bending furnaces and glass cutters.

Las redes sociales han cambiado el esquema de comunicación del siglo XXI. Facebook y Twitter son las más conocidas y ahora empieza el auge de Pinterest, un medio que promete ser un buen nicho para los empresarios.

Cómo promover los productos en las redes sociales?, ¿cuál es la mejor estrategia para que los usuarios se identifiquen con la marca?, ¿quiénes son los usuarios de las redes sociales?, son algunas de las preguntas que expertos en mercadotecnia se plantean. De la mano de este “nuevo” panorama surgen investigaciones que ofrecen una visión del entorno digital. Recientemente comScore Inc, empresa de medición de audiencias en Internet, publicó un estudio en el que se muestra que los latinos usan cada vez más las redes sociales y que Pinterest empieza a crecer en usuarios. De acuerdo con la publicación, más de 127 millones de latinos mayores de 15 años de edad, visitaron un sitio de redes sociales en abril de 2012, pasando 7,5 horas por visitante al mes. “Si bien las redes sociales no son un nuevo fenómeno, continuamos viendo un fuerte crecimiento en el mercado, cambios en la dinámica entre los actores principales, y la aparición de nuevos sitios sociales que hacen que éste sea un mercado especialmente interesante para ver en estos momentos”, comentó Alejandro Fosk, Senior VP comScore Inc.

La investigación aporta que en abril de este año Facebook mantuvo el liderazgo en usuarios con 114,5 millones de visitantes, a comparación de otras redes sociales (gráfica 1). En relación a Pinterest se muestra que aumentó su audiencia, llegando a tener 1,3 millones de visitantes en abril de este año, y entre los países que más la visitan están Brasil, México y Argentina (gráfica 2). El atractivo de Pinterest yace en que es un muro en el que se pueden colocar imágenes, videos y audios que sirven de inspiración para los usuarios. Incluso muchos fotógrafos aprovechan el espacio para compartir su trabajo. No es de extrañar que este sitio sea más usado por mujeres que quieren compartir fotos de sus bodas o afición a la moda. El grupo de mujeres que usan la página va de 25 a 34 años (gráfica 3 y 4). These are just some of the questions that marketing experts are asking. Along with this “new” perspective, research that offers a better vision of the digital world comes up every day. Just recently, comScore, a company specializing in Internet audience measurement, published a study showing that use of social media among latinos is on the rise, as is Pinterest number of users. According to the publication, over 127 million latinos aged 15 and up visited at least one social media site in April 2012. Each of them spent at least 7.5 hours a month online. “While social networking isn’t a new phenomenon, we are still seeing strong market growth, changing dynamics among the leading players, and the emergence of new social sites that make it an especially interesting market to watch right now”, said Alejandro Fosk, Senior VP for comScore. The study also shows that as of April this year, Facebook still led the pack when it comes to users, with 114.5 million visitors, compared to other websites. (graph 1) .

Regarding Pinterest, its audience grew to 1.3 million visitors in April this year. Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are among the countries with the most visits (graph 2). Pinterest is attractive as it is a sort of wall where images, audio and video can be posted to serve as inspiration to its users. Many photographers are using this tool to showcase their work. It isn’t strange that this website is the most widely used by women looking to share their wedding pictures or their interest in fashion. The website is used by women aged 25 to 34. These results evidence the importance of social networking sites and their permanence, and that Pinterest is a good market for business. (graph 3 and 4)

Rissotto de quinoa al vino blanco (6 personas)

Lavar bien la quinoa y cocinarla por 20 minutos en abundante agua y una hoja de laurel. En una cacerola colocar la mantequilla y la cebolla picada bien fina, calentar un rato y luego agregar la quinoa, y mezclar para dar sabor. Verter caldo de verduras con un poco de vino blanco y cocinar hasta que la quinoa esté bien tierna. Saltear los jitomates deshidratados en una sartén limpia e incorporar la quinoa.

Ingredientes 1 taza de quinoa 2 cucharadas de mantequilla ¼ cebolla finamente picada

1 cuadrito o 1 cucharadita de caldo de verduras 1 copa de vino blanco 50 gr jitomate deshidratado Perejil finamente picado para adornar

Aunque estudió Licenciatura en Diseño de Interiores decidió dedicarse a la pintura porque le apasiona y le hace feliz. “Cuando voy a pintar, simplemente lo hago y ya, es algo que sale solo, que fluye en mí sin ningún esfuerzo”, agrega la pintora.

LOS COLORES DEL ALMA

En sus obras, el rojo, morado y el azul están presentes y eso se debe a que tiene un significado para ella. “El rojo para mí representa fortaleza, esa que nos levanta cuando pasamos momentos difíciles, la que sale de lo mas profundo de nuestro ser y nos empuja a seguir adelante ante la adversidad; el morado es la conexión con la espiritualidad, es la metamorfosis que conseguimos día con día, porque todo cambia, nada es para siempre, nunca somos los mismos, estamos evolucionando constantemente, y el azul para mí es el alma, que es tan profunda como el mar”, agrega la pintora. El mar es su mayor cautivador y debido a ello se puede pasar horas contemplando los colores del océano y así conectarse con la esencia de su ser, ya que la llena de paz, amor y tranquilidad. La pintura se ha vuelto un refugio en el que puede comunicar ideas, pensamientos, vivencias y emociones. Sus obras son acompañadas de versos de sus propios poemas que han surgido a raíz de sus emociones.

THE COLORS OF THE SOUL

onsidered one of the new talents to follow, as listed by Architectural Digest, this young painter is making her way into the world of art. “I made my first painting when I was 7 and my first solo exhibition was in 2005 at the Galería Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower Gallery) in Polanco”, she says. Although she has a degree in Interior Design, she decided to devote herself to painting because it is her passion, and it makes her happy. “When I paint, I just do it; it’s something that comes out on its own, which flows through me without any effort,” the painter adds.

Red, purple and blue are always in her works, and that is because they have a meaning for her. “To me, red stands for strength, the kind that lifts us up when we go through hard times, which emerges from the depths of our being and pushes us forward in adversity; purple is the connection to spirituality, the metamorphosis we achieve every day, because everything changes, nothing is forever, we are never the same, we are constantly evolving; and blue for me is the soul, which is as deep as the sea” the painter adds. The sea is her most captivating inspiration, and because of that she can spend hours watching the colors of the ocean thus connecting with the essence of her being, as it fills her with peace, love and tranquility. Painting has become a haven where she can communicate ideas, thoughts, experiences and emotions. Her works are accompanied by verses of her own poems, which have emerged from her emotions.

El arte es subjetivo, por eso la pintora prefiere que los espectadores se conecten con los colores y tengan su propia percepción. “Creo que todos estamos aquí para aprender, como decía Facundo Cabral, el mundo es una gran escuela en la que aprendemos día con día”, afirma. Marcela Cadena muestra tener una percepción segura y transparente de la vida, pero ¿cómo es un día para una pintora? “Nunca tengo un día igual a otro, todos son distintos y eso me encanta porque no puedo con la monotonía. Me gusta hacer ejercicio, correr, hacer pilates, yoga o spinning y cuando estoy trabajando en una colección paso mucho tiempo en el estudio; pero cuando ya la presente ocupo mis días en dar entrevistas o tengo citas con coleccionistas que quieren adquirir una pieza”, expresa sonriente la pintora. En la actualidad ha participado en eventos como Seamangeum Festival en Corea 2010; Art Shanghai 2010; “Colores del Corazón” 2011 Agora Galery, Chelsea, NY; Biennal de Florencia 2011 y el “El corazón por encima de la razón” Galería Oscar Román en Polanco, Ciudad de México, 2011. En el evento de Shangai tuvo la fortuna de ser la primera mexicana en participar en esta feria, que es muy importante en Asia. Su carrera está despuntando cada día, y no es de extrañarse que ya tenga en mente varios proyectos. Algunos de ellos son el taller de arte para niños, “Miniartist”, que se imparte en su estudio; participará en la Feria de Arte de Beijing, en agosto, y la presentación de su nueva colección a finales de este año en la Ciudad de México.

Art is subjective, so this artist prefers for viewers to connect with the colors and to have a perception of their own. “I think we’re all here to learn, as Facundo Cabral used to say, the world is a great school where we learn every day,” she says. Marcela Cadena shows she has a confident and transparent perception of life, but what is a day in a painter’s life like? “I never have a day the same as another, they’re all different and I love that because I can’t stand monotony. To this day she has participated in events like the Seamangeum Festival in Korea; Art Shanghai 2010; “Colores del Corazón” 2011; Agora Gallery (Chelsea, NY); the Florence Biennale 2011 and the exhibition “El corazón por encima de la razón” (Heart above reason) in the Oscar Roman Gallery in Polanco, Mexico City, 2011. For the Shanghai event she was lucky to be the first Mexican to participate in this fair, which is very important in Asia. Her star keeps rising every day, and it’s no surprise that she already has several projects in mind. Some of them are the children’s art workshop “Miniartist” which she teaches at her study; her participation in the Beijing Art Fair in August, and the presentation of her new collection later this year, in Mexico City.

e acuerdo con Maritza Morales Casanova, fundadora presidenta de HU’NA’B Proyecto de Vida A.C., el planeta ya no es madretierra, sino “abuela tierra”, por los años que han pasado desde que se creó. El concepto de que la tierra sea considerada una abuela se debe al estado en el que se encuentra, por ejemplo, sus ríos están contaminados, así como se saturan las venas del cuerpo.

ACLARANDO CONCEPTOS

Maritza señala que para tener una plena conciencia ecológica, hay que aclarar cuatro conceptos: Los recursos naturales son los elementos de la naturaleza que para el ser humano son útiles. El medio ambiente es todo lo que nos rodea incluyendo elementos no Naturales. Cuidar es cuando cuidamos lo que se encuentra cerca de nosotros o que está en nuestras manos hacer Proteger es interesarnos en situaciones en las que no podemos intervenir directamente como cuidar a las tortugas marinas. Todos podemos ayudar desde nuestras casas y oficinas, basta con separar la basura, cuidar el agua y la comida. Y sobre todo pasarle esa conciencia ecológica a os niños. Es importante que estemos informados sobre la problemática para poder ayudar. Para los niños es fácil aprender a través de actividades, por eso es importante establecer reglas. HU’NA’B tiene 17 mondambientes, que son reglas que ayudan a estar en armonía con la naturaleza y se aprenden a base de actividades como juegos, cuentos y artesanías (con vainas y semillas, hojas, etc.).

Uno de los casos de éxito ha sido Araí Chan Canul, quien hace 8 años se integró a HU’NA’B y ahora es la directora del taller de convivencia armónica en Sinanché. A tan corta edad le ha tocado representar a Yucatán y México en foros Internacionales en Japón, Indonesia y Turquía, invitada por el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (UNEP, por sus siglas en inglés). Incluso para un proyecto de diseño urbano en México trabajamos en conjunto un arquitecto israelí y uno palestino. Este verano en el estudio llegarán colaboradores que hablan tailandés, griego, español, francés, portugués, árabe e inglés. Esta multiculturalidad es enriquecedora”, afirma Jorge. Sus estudios en la Architectural Association de Londres le han permitido cuestionarse la aplicabilidad de la arquitectura en todo momento e incluso entender otras disciplinas como la ingeniería, paisajismo y arte. Todo lo que esté dentro de un cuadro de experimentación. ¿Pero ante tantas ideas qué es lo que les ayuda a concretar la propuesta? Cada diseño es único y de acuerdo con la necesidad del cliente, y el presupuesto nunca ha sido impedimento para trabajar con texturas, colores y definición.

CUESTIONANDO EL ENTORNO

“Todos los proyectos que realizamos cuestionan su propia naturaleza, por ejemplo, el proyecto del campus de Sonora nos permitió buscar más ideas en infraestructura, irrigación y drenaje que se adaptaran a la topografía existente del terreno”, señala el especialista. La transgresión física dentro de la arquitectura es un reto y es lo que los motiva a mezclar lo digital con lo físico. Este proceso de materialización de los conceptos es una de las partes más importantes del diseño para [Ay] Architecture, porque siempre buscan generar una arquitectura sensacional que apele a todo tipo de sensaciones (luz, color y formalidad) con efectos especiales y espaciales. Una de las experiencias que le han permitido crecer personal y profesionalmente fue la colaboración en un documental de France Televisions, en el que se abordaba el desarrollo urbano de la Ciudad de México desde el siglo XIV a la actualidad. “Estuvimos filmando de Tláhuac a Santa Fe durante 10 días, en la que tuve la oportunidad de entender las capas que estructuran la ciudad en la que nací, después tuve el honor de presentar el trabajo ante la audiencia francesa”, agrega el arquitecto.

SUS MÁS RECIENTES TRABAJOS

En julio el Colectivo Think CITY en Penang, Malasia, invitó a Jorge y a su equipo a proponer ideas para conservar George Town después de haber sido catalogado como Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la Unesco. También están generando obras de arte tanto en México como en Francia, las cuales renuncian a la opulencia del arte y resaltan su complejidad espacial. “Gracias a que fui líder académico en el TEC de Monterrey pude establecer lazos culturales y académicos de México. He estado en Tijuana, Mexicali, León, Guadalajara, Hermosillo y el DF, pero espero pronto poder regresar a mi país”, finaliza.

rchitecture can be felt in all areas of our lives. It’s a lifestyle, according to architect Jorge Ayala, 30, who left Mexico with the vision of having a workshop with colleagues from all countries. He achieved the goal, as he now has an office located in Paris, France. “By studying abroad, we were able to work with people from all over. Even for an urban design project in Mexico, an Israeli architect worked along with one from Palestine. This summer, collaborators who speak Thai, Greek, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic and English will arrive at the workshop. This multiculturalism is enriching,” Jorge says. His studies at the Architectural Association in London have allowed him to question the applicability of architecture at all times and even understand other disciplines such as engineering, landscaping and art. Anything within an experimental framework. But with so many ideas, what helps them realize a proposal? Each design is unique, tailored to each customer’s needs, and budget has never been an impediment to work with textures, colors and definition.

QUESTIONING THE ENVIRONMENT

“All the projects we work on question their own nature; for example, the Sonora campus project allowed us to search for more ideas regarding infrastructure, irrigation and drainage that would adapt to the existing topography of the land,” the specialist explains. Physical transgression within architecture is a challenge and it’s what motivates them to mix the digital with the physical. This process of concept realization is one of the most important parts of design for [Ay] Architecture, because they always seek to create a stunning architectural design that will appeal to all kinds of sensations (light, color and formality) with special effects and space. One of the experiences that have helped him grow personally and professionally was collaborating with a documentary by France Televisions, which dealt with the urban development of Mexico City since the fourteenth century to the present. “We were filming between Tlahuac and Santa Fe for 10 days, during which I had the opportunity to understand the layered structure of the city where I was born; later I was honored to be able to present the work to the French audience,” says the architect.

HIS MOST RECENT WORKS

In July the Think CITY Collective in Penang, Malaysia, invited Jorge and his team to propose ideas to conserve George Town after it was listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. They are also creating works of art in both Mexico and France, which renounce the wealth of art and highlight its spatial complexity. “Because I was the academic leader at the Monterrey Technological Institute, I was able to establish cultural and academic ties to Mexico. I’ve been to Tijuana, Mexicali, Leon, Guadalajara, Hermosillo and Mexico City, but I hope to return to my country soon,” he concludes.

DE UN TRUENO THE MEMORY OF THUNDER POR ÁNGEL RIVERA PÉREZ

COMO SI EN UN TÚNEL DEL TIEMPO CAYERA PARA VOLVER A MIS ÉPOCAS DE ESTUDIANTE DE SECUNDARIA, CUANDO EL MUNDO Y LA VIDA ERAN UN TERRENO INEXPLORADO Y PROMETEDOR, FUE LO QUE SENTÍ AL ENTERARME DE LA MUERTE DE RAY BRADBURY, CREADOR DE HISTORIAS FANTÁSTICAS Y DE RELATOS DE CIENCIA FICCIÓN QUE EN MIS AÑOS JUVENILES ME ABRIERON LOS OJOS A UNA REALIDAD IRREAL, PERO POSIBLE. Gracias a este escritor mi mundo adolescente dio un giro, primero hacia la Literatura y luego, y de la mano, hacia una toma de conciencia del mundo y sociedad en la que me tocó vivir y de las consecuencias que cada acto, consciente o inconsciente, tienen en nuestra vida. Recuerdo perfectamente el impacto que me causó su cuento “El ruido de un trueno” (el original en inglés se tituló “A sound of thunder” y se publicó por primera vez en 1952). La trama, los diálogos, las descripciones y su sorprendente final fueron decisivos en mi gusto por la narrativa.

It was thanks to this writer that my world as a teenager took a turn, first towards literature, and then to an awareness of the world and the society in which I lived, as well as of the consequences that each action, conscious or unconscious, has in our life. I vividly remember the impact that “A sound of thunder” (first published in 1952) had in me. The plot, the dialogue, the descriptions and the surprise ending were instrumental in my love of fiction. That little story of a journey to the past with implica-

Esa pequeña historia de un viaje al pasado con implicaciones en el futuro llegó a mis manos gracias a Norma Olivia, amiga y compañera de la secundaria, quien durante el descanso de una clase me comentó que había leído un cuento que le había gustado mucho. Eran los años setenta, cuando hablar de computadoras personales, teléfonos móviles, dispositivos electrónicos y sobre todo de internet eran sólo sueños de ciencia ficción. El entretenimiento se obtenía de algún programa en la televisión; la ida al cine una vez al mes y el acompañamiento, ese sí cotidiano, de los libros e historietas. Desde los primeros párrafos de “El ruido de un trueno”, cuando se nos presentaba a una compañía especializada en organizar viajes al pasado para cazar dinosaurios, me sentí atrapado y no pude parar en la lectura del relato, escrito con fluidez, suavidad y elegancia. A partir de ese momento mis lecturas se fueron ampliando y el siguiente texto de Bradbury que me hizo expandir mi mente fue “Fahrenheit 451”, en el que un grupo de rebeldes quiere salvar la historia y la cultura por medio de la literatura y la filosofía, en un futuro donde un Estado totalitario prohíbe la palabra escrita. A Bradbury le seguirían otros autores como Mario Vargas Llosa con su “Tía Julia y el escribidor” y Gabriel García Márquez con la “Crónica de una muerte anunciada”, que afianzaron mi gusto por la narrativa. Con el paso del tiempo más libros y autores marcarían mi existencia, pero si Ray Bradbury no hubiera entrado a mi vida de esa manera tan casual y amable por esa puerta que cambió mi vida y mi futuro, como en la trama de “El ruido de un trueno”, hoy sería otra cosa, pero no lo que soy. Si cuando me toque transitar por otros mundos se me pida recordar y agradecer a quienes han influido en lo que he sido, sin duda uno de ellos será Bradbury.

It was the seventies, when talking about personal computers, mobile phones, electronic devices and especially the Internet were only dreams of science fiction. Entertainment came from TV shows, going to the movies once a month and the constant company provided by books and comic strips. From the opening paragraphs of “A sound of thunder”, with the introduction of a company specialized in organizing trips to the past to hunt dinosaurs, I felt trapped and could not stop reading the story, so fluently, smoothly, elegantly written.

AS IF I’D FALLEN IN A TIME WARP, BACK TO WHEN I WAS A STUDENT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WHEN LIFE AND THE WORLD WHERE NEW AND PROMISING. THAT’S HOW I FELT WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE PASSING OF RAY BRADBURY, AUTHOR OF FANTASTIC SCIENCE FICTION STORIES THAT, IN MY YOUTH, OPENED MY EYES TO AN UNREAL, YET POSSIBLE REALITY.

Para hablar de su obra de más de 27 novelas y 600 historias cortas, entre las que también destaca “Crónicas marcianas”, muchas de ellas llevadas al cine, cómics, series de televisión e incluso juegos de vídeo, se necesitarían decenas de páginas pero estas líneas sólo quieren destacar el impacto que las letras pueden causar en una persona. Sean estas líneas una aportación a los deseos que su nieto Danny Karpetian expresó el 6 de junio pasado, cuando el genial escritor falleció a los 91 años de edad: “Si tuviera que hacer alguna declaración, sería lo mucho que le quiero y le extraño...y espero con interés escuchar los recuerdos que tienen de él muchos artistas, escritores, profesores o científicos que fueron influidos por su obra. Sería muy conmovedor y reconfortante escuchar sus historias”.

Y es así como los aldeanos se salvan de una muerte segura. A veces nos suceden cosas que sentimos como una catástrofe. Sin embargo, cuando tienes una gran pérdida, el mundo te da un bien que no esperabas. La pérdida y lo obtenido se equilibran. Pero, si no estás en la vía espiritual, todo lo que te sucede te parece totalmente nefasto, a semejanza de los aldeanos del cuento. Si te privan de algo, pregúntate si no eres tú quien ha provocado esto, y dite que quizás eso sea para tu bien.

esa relación nació el libro llamado “The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood”, así como las series de televisión de HBO “The Corner” y, por supuesto, “The Wire”. Ésta última se estrenó en junio de 2002, una época en la que, gracias a series como The Sopranos, ya se había fijado un estándar de calidad en la televisión americana. Aunque “The Wire” parecía una simple historia policíaca, temporada tras temporada fue demostrando completamente lo contrario.

FORMATO DIFERENTE

La primera diferencia con otras series fue su estructura lineal, nunca utilizó recursos engañosos o trampas como el flashback, y cada temporada era similar a una partida de ajedrez (metáfora que incluso utilizan magistralmente desde la primera temporada para explicar las relaciones de poder en una sociedad capitalista), en donde todas las piezas se acomodan para detonar en un brutal desenlace.
