Nella mia vita lavorativa - molto più lunga di quanto mi piaccia ricordare - ho visto e studiato migliaia di case: grandi e piccole, belle, trascurate, d’epoca, moderne o addirittura avveniristiche. Tante mi hanno colpito, alcune avrei voluto progettarle io, in altre non sarei andato a vivere nemmeno se costretto. Ma tutte, per un motivo o per un altro, hanno stuzzicato la mia curiosità. Umana, prima ancora che professionale. La casa è un sistema complesso: è, certo, lo specchio di chi la abita, ma è uno specchio deformante. È un insieme di realtà, velleitarismo, desiderio di apparire e bisogno di nascondersi. È un rifugio ma, a volte, un palcoscenico. È lo spazio che amiamo, quello che abbiamo scelto perché ci rappresenti. A un occhio allenato, rivela del suo proprietario molto più di quanto egli vorrebbe. Per questo abbiamo scelto di dedicare questo numero al tema home. Perché non c’è un luogo più difficile da progettare della vostra casa. E noi di C14 amiamo le sfide impossibili.

Vivere l’abitare, oggi:

C14 disegna la casa contemporanea L’idea di casa cambia insieme alla società. Qual è, quindi, la nostra casa? C14 prova a rispondere a questa domanda con gli appartamenti di cui ha curato il progetto in questi ultimi tempi: da Milano, all’Olanda, dal Ghana alla Cina, lo studio tratteggia le linee dell’abitare contemporaneo. Allineandosi alle esigenze della committenza e declinandosi in modi diversi a seconda della localizzazione geografica degli spazi.

A Milano uno degli aspetti primari riguarda le dimensioni. La casa oggi è piccola: vanno dimenticati gli ampi locali riservati solo a ingresso, i corridoi infiniti, la cucina tradizionale. Lo spazio viene sfruttato tutto, in ogni centimetro, con soluzioni che devono coniugare estetica e massima razionalità. Se le case porte disono ingresso in però, non è detto che lo sembrino: C14 ha piccole, legno

Gli appartamenti realizzati a Milano, nel complesso di Corso Garibaldi 73 e di via Volta, si distinguono per

C14 inserisce una soluzione di pareti in vetro che suddividono gli ambienti ma non li isolano: la zona notte, ad esempio, è separata da cucina e salotto con una continuità visiva che esalta l’ampiezza dei locali e la concezione originale della casa. Lo spazio si presenta unico, senza barriere murarie, permettendo all’occhio di godere di una vista unitaria, aperta, che moltiplica l’ampiezza ed esalta la luminosità. I toni cromatici sono ancora quelli del grigio, del bianco e del legno rovere termotrattato dai toni spenti che legano con il ferro crudo della vetrata.

In contesti di particolare pregio storico ed artistico come quello in cui si inserisce l’appartamento in Corso Sempione, l’atteggiamento progettuale mira a ricostruire una continuità di linguaggio tra esterno e interno, tra passato e contemporaneità.

Un tema caro a Gruppo C14: le scelte di interior non possono prescindere dalle considerazioni sull’epoca e sul gusto con cui è stato concepito il palazzo. Inventare, anzi re-inventare, per conservare, esaltare lo spirito dell’epoca mettendo in luce anche i piccoli dettagli pensati originariamente, senza per questo rinunciare al gusto contemporaneo, allo spirito del nostro tempo e alla moderna funzionalità. Ed ecco che il parquet originale a spina di pesce tipico delle case in stile “vecchia Milano” viene recuperato e accostato ai listelli neri colorati in pasta posati secondo lo stesso disegno. Il contrasto con la resina dei bagni gli arredi e la cucina in stile contemporaneo arricchisce gli spazi di nuovi significati. Interessante notare come siano rispettate le finestre anni Trenta con nicchia per gli scuri: le vecchie strutture aggiungono carattere all’appartamento creando una piacevole dissonanza con l’illuminazione della zona pranzo, un disco a LED sospeso al soffitto Opzione C

Scelte di temperamento, allineate al gusto dei nostri giorni ma con una forte impronta personale per dare un segno unico e indimenticabile a spazi destinati all’ospitalità di lusso definiscono il progetto degli appartamenti per la Tops International Arena di Valkenswaard, in Olanda. Se il bianco di nuovo predomina, qui è affiancato da finiture in faggio antico, su cui spiccano le macchie rosse dei dettagli degli arredi - cuscini, pouf, tappezzerie. Oggi infatti, un’altra barriera è caduta: quella tra la casa privata, espressione della propria vita e gelosa custode della propria privacy, e la casa destinata all’ospitalità, aperta a nuovi inquilini e a nuove sorprese. Le case devono essere facilmente declinabili in chiavi diverse da quelle dell’abitazione familiare tout court: gli appartamenti di C14 sono quindi pensati come spazi privati, per vivere comodamente e in modo rilassato, ma risultano affascinanti, ricchi di sorprese, di utilizzo facile e razionale anche per una

molteplicità di altri scopi, in caso di affitto per brevi periodi a turisti di alto profilo, qualora il proprietario debba assentarsi per far fronte a impegni di lavoro che ne richiedano la presenza altrove. Spazi che invece di chiudersi si aprono e si moltiplicano, lasciando l’occhio libero di immaginare e di perdersi. Linee pulite, semplici ma mai banali, dettagli curati fino all’ossessione.

Tanta luce che avvolge e fa riposare lo sguardo. Sono i caratteri imprescindibili di una casa firmata C14. Una casa bella da vivere e da mostrare, esempi che dimostrano come il contemporaneo, se ben progettato, possa trasmettere il sapore del lusso, la pulizia estrema della razionalità, la personalità e il calore di un luogo dove ritrovare la pace, lontano dallo stress del lavoro e della grande città.

Idee per una c as a intelligente: la domot ica neg li anni dell ’abit ar e mobile

Se le origini dei robot possono essere fatte risalire indietro nei millenni, fino alla mitologia greca - Cadmo, fondatore di Tebe, assistette alla trasformazione dei denti di un drago in un esercito di soldati - è Leonardo che, alla fine del ‘400, progetta per primo un robot umanoide, immaginandolo come un cavaliere meccanico capace di muoversi e di agitare le braccia per il divertimento degli ospiti della corte sforzesca.

Passando per il golem ebraico, i primi automi di cui si abbia effettiva testimonianza sono, tuttavia, della metà del ‘700: Jacques de Vaucanson riesce nell’impresa di realizzare delle anatomies mouvantes, fra cui la più famosa è certamente l’anatra digeritrice che replica il processo di digestione dell’animale vero. Solo all’inizio del XX secolo, però, quando il termine robot fa la sua comparsa (derivato dal ceco robota che significa lavoro pesante) l’idea di costruire un uomo meccanico capace di sostituire il suo padrone nello svolgimento di mansioni particolarmente faticose o disagevoli inizia a farsi davvero strada come una possibilità reale. Il Novecento coltiva non più il sogno ma la possibilità concreta di sollevare gli uomini dalle fatiche fisiche che, per tutta la storia, erano stati costretti a sobbarcarsi in prima persona. E questo non solo in strada o in fabbrica, ma anche a casa. L’emancipazione femminile nasce dalla tecnologia quanto dalle suffragette. Fra i grandi traguardi raggiunti nel XX secolo, l’invenzione della lavatrice ha un rilievo solo apparentemente minore, ma è una tappa fondamentale nella definizione di un nuovo ruolo della donna fuori dalle mura domestiche. Il semplice lavaggio dei panni, storicamente riservato alle mogli e alle figlie, richiedeva un continuo sforzo fisico e un grande impiego di tempo.

Con la Terza Rivoluzione Industriale si arriva all’avvento della domotica: in forme prima incerte e poi sempre più definitive, si sogna una casa intelligente, capace di regolarsi in maniera parzialmente autonoma per venire incontro alle esigenze dei suoi abitanti. Una casa che contribuisca realmente a togliere fatica in un luogo che per definizione è il posto del riposo e del recupero dalla fatica stessa. La domotica è, se vogliamo, l’arte di preoccuparsi meno delle incombenze per vivere meglio. Il termine domotica esiste ormai da tempo. Ma a lungo non si è tradotto veramente in una concreta visione nuova della casa: sembrava qualcosa di cui tutti stessero parlando ma nessuno sapeva dove si trovasse. Fino agli anni ottanta la tecnologia domestica era, tutto sommato, rimasta ferma a qualche decennio prima: telefono, radio, lavatrice, appunto, e televisione.

E queste innovazioni non sono più privilegio per pochi. Un tipo di innovazione che sta riguardando molti aspetti della nostra vita, almeno quelli dove la tecnologia può intervenire più facilmente. Arriverò a casa tra un’ora ma il riscaldamento sarà acceso? Posso scaldare il forno prima di essere entrato in cucina, anzi, mentre sono ancora al lavoro? Poter gestire la propria abitazione e i propri bisogni anche a distanza. Poter usufruire di una casa su misura, che si rende accogliente quando ci siamo e non consuma a vuoto se manchiamo per periodi anche lunghi. Una casa che cambia l’offerta dei suoi servizi in funzione di chi la sta abitando in quel momento, oltre che della stagione, del momento della giornata, del clima atmosferico. I bisogni di una famiglia contemporanea, ma anche, perché no, dei single, passano attraverso una radicale riduzione dei tempi morti, delle difficoltà quotidiane che portano via tempo prezioso ed energie. La domotica dovrebbe diventare poco a poco proprio quell’assistente digitale, quel robot di famiglia che abbiamo sempre sognato. Controllando gli sprechi, ottimizzando le spese, facilitando il controllo e il cambiamento di tutti i parametri della casa che ci interessano. Progettare oggi senza dare il giusto peso a come sarà la casa del futuro ricorda quelli che hanno investito in enciclopedie all’alba dell’avvento del digitale. Non solo è poco lungimirante, inutile, ma significa anche dover obbligare gli abitanti a fare domani un doppio lavoro. Per questo, nella progettazione, la conoscenza della domotica conta quanto quella dei materiali. Perché le soluzioni abitative passano attraverso di essa. Abitare, oggi, significa davvero avere, anche in città, la casa che sta nel fondo dei vostri sogni.

Alexander Bellman e Gruppo C14 partecipano alla Design Week milanese con un contributo esposto alla mostra di Interni, ospitata nel Cortile d’Onore dell’Università degli Studi di Milano. Il tema dell’evento, House in Motion, ci ha subito intrigato: la casa di oggi - in bilico tra passato e futuro - aspetta di essere definita, descritta, interpretata. È una casa in movimento, un luogo fisico cui ritornare ma, anche, uno spazio mobile da portare con sé o da aprire agli altri. Agli amici, agli ospiti, ai viaggiatori come noi. Il disegno dell’installazione Frame Emotions nasce da un’aspirazione infantile che ricordiamo tutti, legata all’esercizio che si faceva da bambini di disegnare la casa senza mai staccare la penna dal foglio. La sfida risiede nel mettere insieme uno strumento come il telefonino, la prima interfaccia di cui disponiamo riguardo ai concetti di mobilità e di velocità, con un elemento statico quale la costruzione architettonica, la casa.

L’installazione invita a una riflessione profonda, contrapponendo in modo provocatorio due rappresentazioni della casa che, benché divergenti, si ricollegano allo stesso archetipo. Casa tradizionale e casa contemporanea convivono e interagiscono nel dualismo tra il wireframe della struttura aperta e il volume pieno: si annulla l’opposizione proiettando un mondo nell’altro. Oggi lo spazio abitato non si misura più solo in metri: a questi si sommano i pixel delle stanze virtuali che, ad altissima velocità, prendono forma sui nostri dispositivi portatili. Al disegno abbiamo affiancato un altro livello di lettura: Frame Emotions o il tempo di vivere. È questo il concetto espresso, con divertita ironia, dai contenuti realizzati da Alexander Bellman con la collaborazione del video artist Endrit Muhametaj. Una sequenza di immagini in super slow motion che illustrano, con l’ausilio degli smartphone Samsung Galaxy S9 e S9+, l’idea di mobilità temporale che ha plasmato le nostre esistenze. Oltre la frenesia del mondo contemporaneo ci sono istanti che vale la pena vivere con lentezza. Riprendiamoli, sì, ma riprendiamoceli anche.

Alexander Bellman racconta: “Avevamo l’esigenza di trovare una soluzione che creasse un legame tra l’esistente e il nostro intervento, senza rinunciare alla volontà di lasciare un segno evidente che rompesse con la modularità del rivestimento del Deerlook”. Una sfida non da poco. Inaugurato da pochi mesi, il Chengzahn Rd. Showroom è un innovativo spazio di grande suggestione, pensato per attrarre un pubblico giovane, internazionale, appassionato di design e attento al gusto occidentale: 800 mq dedicati all’arredamento, in un’atmosfera accogliente e informale. Lo showroom è stato pensato come un grande open space ma, al contempo, come uno spazio domestico, in cui ogni stanza si declina in modo diverso. Il visitatore si muove quindi tra gli ambienti, che si aprono l’uno nell’altro come scatole cinesi: dalla zona living

si passa alla sala da pranzo e lo stile cambia, come se ci si trovasse in un’altra casa. Ampie vetrate, pannelli divisori in legno di eucalipto e lamelle in noce suddividono arredando, senza appesantire ma, anzi, ponendosi esse stesse come scelte di design cariche di personalità. Il tempo si è fermato, una calma a noi oggi sconosciuta invade quella che per molti passeggeri è la hall di ingresso di una città in perenne mutamento. La crisi economica ha appena svoltato l’angolo e la città là fuori sta iniziando a cambiare: eppure, in questo salotto urbano, nessuno sembra preoccuparsene. Lunghi fasci di luce fendono l’aria densa di polvere e Lucky Strike impunite, tagliando una scena in sospeso tra addii e arrivederci a domani: come se, dalla balconata su Vanderbilt Avenue, qualcuno si fosse appena girato urlando “1,2, 3, stella!”... e fermi tutti.

Dietro l’obiettivo c’è Berenice Abbott, la giovane assistente di Man Ray, figlia di una famiglia dell’Ohio, ma cresciuta tra una comune del Greenwich Village e la Parigi esistenzialista. ROBOTICA Una delle più grandi utopie dell’Illuminismo, la costruzione di un “homme-machine” offriva la possibilità concreta di applicare la concezione meccanicistica ad un organismo vivente, afferrando la connessione tra la vita e la morte in un’unica celebrazione dell’arte e della scienza del corpo umano.

L’automa non è un’invenzione del Settecento. Il suo passato risale a Talos, il servo di Minosse, rappresentato su un vaso attico del 400 A.C. La parola

Tuttavia, solo negli anni centrali del diciottesimo secolo l’automa lasciò i territori dell’interpretazione mitologica e letteraria per svolgere un ruolo cruciale nei tentativi di capire la natura dell’esistenza. La trasparenza “illuministica” dei tre automi di Jaquet-Droz, “Lo Scrivano”, “Il Disegnatore” e “La Musicista”, mostravano le meraviglie della performance intellettuale attraverso una “drammatizzazione cognitiva”.

(1818). Il Dottor Frankenstein infonde la vita con una scarica elettrica nel suo automa mostruoso, creato con le parti del corpo di diversi cadaveri. Lasciando l’Illuminismo, l’automa e i suoi discendenti si trovano davanti a un duplice destino. Indossando la maschera di funamboli, scimmie, giocolieri, uccelli canterini, illusionisti, vengono spettacolarizzati, messi in mostra nei mercati e nelle fiere come giocattoli fascinosi per bambini privilegiati, ed anche per adulti. Ma come artefatti estetici che uniscono l’artificiale ed il vivente, segnano l’avvento dell’alleanza tra arte e chirurgia ricostruttiva o estetica. Oggigiorno viene riconosciuto che “le nuove ricerche sulla natura dell’etica sono da scoprire nell’interfaccia tra neuroscienze, biologia evoluzionistica, biologia molecolare, politica, antropologia, psicologia, ed etologia”. (P.Smith Churchland) Eppure, l’esigenza impellente di un’etica della cultura viene spesso disattesa in quanto ritenuta un’ossessione umanistica obsoleta finalizzata al mero mantenimento dell’uomo come “fulcro centrale” (Denis Diderot).

RAFFLES CITY

Il futuro si vede da qui: C14 progetta gli spazi di rappresentanza nelle grandi torri di Hangzhou

Un quartiere cittadino che si sviluppa in verticale. Un luogo che include tutto - case, alberghi, svaghi, servizi, sport, shopping e dove tutto è interconnesso. Uno spazio del futuro, un punto di confluenza pensato per migliorare l’esperienza urbana di residenti e visitatori. In un’ottica green, perché l’ambiente è altamente sostenibile. Questo, e molto altro ancora, è Raffles City, ad Hangzhou in Qianjiang New Town, nel cuore del quartiere centrale degli affari. E Gruppo C14 è stato chiamato a partecipare al progetto. Raffles City si sviluppa prevalentemente in due torri di 60 piani ciascuna, cui si aggiungono altri spazi di pertinenza, con vista sul fiume Qiantang - famoso per le maree che, una volta all’anno, creano onde straordinarie che si infrangono contro gli argini. Siamo stati incaricati della progettazione degli interni per un appartamento di rappresentanza nel quale ricevere i clienti: il 54° piano di una delle torri del complesso. Abbiamo risposto proponendo una soluzione in linea con la nostra idea di esportazione del design italiano in Cina. Il visitatore è accolto in uno spazio di assoluto prestigio, in cui si respirano fascino, eleganza e cultura: la spina dorsale dell’appartamento, infatti, è costituita da un’imponente libreria, una vera e propria biblioteca a disposizione degli ospiti che ha anche la funzione di suddividere gli ambienti, marcando il passaggio dalla zona privata a quella più “social”. Marmi preziosi, in toni cromatici che vanno dal bianco al nero con venature dorate. Le ampie vetrate con profili

in ottone sono disegnate ad hoc da C14: i pattern delle trame costituiscono una sorta di fil rouge che lega tra loro i progetti che lo studio ha curato in Cina. La ricerca dei materiali è stata fondamentale per il progetto del 54° piano della torre: un ambiente dove il lusso si sposa con la più calda ospitalità, un luogo in cui sentirsi attesi, coccolati. Le scelte di lighting seguono i principi fondamentali di C14: le luci arredano, riscaldano, sono presenze discrete ma percepibili. Ogni dettaglio si inserisce in un percorso di ricerca del comfort e dell’estetica: per esempio, l’impianto di condizionamento viene integrato nelle gole di luce, così da nascondere alla vista le griglie di emissione dell’aria. Gli ambienti invitano a rilassarsi, a chiacchierare, e anche l’argomento più business oriented può essere affrontato in un’atmosfera amichevole. Oltrepassata la reception, il grande appartamento offre molti spazi a disposizione degli ospiti. Allo studio privato predisposto per gli appuntamenti riservati si affiancano, infatti, zone living e cucine attrezzate per gli incontri più informali. Uno spazio aperto a ogni necessità, pronto a declinarsi in maniere diverse per soddisfare le esigenze della clientela. Un’eleganza discreta, tutta italiana, ma pensata per accontentare il gusto cinese. Nel più puro stile C14.

ART LIFE POLITCS Milano, febbraio - giugno Fondazione Prada www.fondazioneprada.com Nell’ambito del progetto Novecento italiano, il palinsesto di 150 eventi culturali in programma a Milano fino alla fine del 2018, la Fondazione Prada ospita Post Zang Tumb Tuuum, un’esposizione volta a indagare le tendenze artistiche italiane tra le due guerre. Il curatore, Germano Celant, ha selezionato circa 500 lavori - dipinti, sculture, disegni, fotografie, manifesti, arredi, progetti e modelli architettonici - realizzati da un centinaio di autori.
