From Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana CEO
School is out and the sun is out! Summer is my favorite time of year, and in many ways it’s a season when the magic of childhood comes alive. This is an exciting (and busy!) time at Girl Scouts.
For volunteers and staff, early summer can be a whirlwind: Readying camp properties for prime time, welcoming and training camp staff, reaching toward membership goals in the Early Bird renewal season, selecting the seller rewards for the next Cookie Program, and much more!

Thank you for a successful Girl Scout Cookie season!
Girl Scouts that participated in the 2023 Cookie Program sold more than 1.54 million packages of Girl Scout Cookies.
Your cookie purchase helps Girl Scouts do amazing things like trek through the forest, learn how to code, build a playground in their community, make lifelong friends at camp, and so much more.
Did you know that the Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world?
Not only is the cookie program fun, but it also helps Girl Scouts learn life and leadership skills:
Goal Setting
Girl Scouts learn how to set goals and create a plan to reach them
Decision Making
Girl Scouts learn to make decisions on their own and as a team.
Money Management
Girl Scouts learn how to create a budget and handle money.
People Skills
Girl Scouts find their voice and build confidence through customer interactions.
Business Ethics
Girl Scouts learn to act ethically, both in business and in life.

Donor Spotlight: Edie Bingham
Edie Bingham was only eight years old and living in Maryland when the United States entered World War II. The war changed the lives of everyone on the home front, including children, who felt the impacts every day. Edie recalls the polio epidemic and rationing of gas. She also remembers the ration stamps limiting the use of sugar and meat. These restrictions resulted in limited driving and trips for her family, as well as a healthier diet.
Due to the polio epidemic, Edie had the opportunity to attend a Girl Scout camp in Virginia that August for 4 weeks, which she describes as being fun living in a cabin in the woods with wonderful hiking. They also identified plants and trees, played games, and made new friends without the distractions of TV and radio. The summer camp provided Edie with a sense of achievement and happiness that was so important growing up in the midst of World War II restrictions. Following her weeks at summer camp, Edie continued with Girl Scouts for another year until she graduated to a new school.
