It’s Back—Project Plant-It
Save the galaxy, plant a tree! The entire month of April is dedicated to you—earth’s defenders—who save the world. From Arbor Day to Earth Day, you can celebrate both by planting new trees and keeping our planet healthy. Both experienced earth defenders and new ones can join us in the fight for change. Join us for this council-wide service project this April to protect our planet Earth! Girls will earn a custom Project Plant-It patch to show how they changed the world. How do you earn the patch? It’s simple—plant a tree! While you can participate in this as an individual or as a troop, we recommend at least one tree for every five girls. After planting a tree, submit a photo to the Project Plant-It Report Form and your patch will be sent to the address provided. Project Plant-It will run the whole month of April, kicking off on April 1 and ending on April 30.
So during the month of April, save the galaxy, plant a tree, and earn this patch!
Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge
Summer is the perfect time to explore the outdoors. She can visit a state park, hike a trail, or plant a tree! Whatever outdoor activity she chooses—she’s invited to take the challenge, the Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors Challenge! It’s simple. All Girl Scouts have to do is complete the number of activities required for their grade level and they can unlock a cool, new patch! Make sure to connect with us on email, social, and our website for more information on how she can take the challenge this summer!
Outdoor Skills Patch Program
This patch program is a progressive, six-level program to help Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors learn and become proficient in outdoor skills. Through this patch program, girls explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. The program is intended to supplement the existing Girl Scout program. It is not meant to replace working on Journeys, badges, or outdoor programming at camp. Once you have completed the requirements for a level, you can purchase the main patch and level patch, online, via email, or from a retail Pop-Up Shop near you!
Girl Scout
Ranger Program
National Park Service and Girl Scouts have partnered to create the Girl Scout Ranger Program to help you earn this awesome patch! Check out how to earn this patch below or at www.nps.gov.
Girl Scouts has joined forces with the National Park Service to launch the Girl Scout Ranger Program, giving girls everywhere access to monuments, seashores, urban sites, and so much more. The program is filled with opportunity for unique park experiences, awesome service and education projects, and even cool badges and patches to earn.
There are five easy steps to the Girl Scout Ranger Program.
1. Choose a National Park Service. Visit www. nps.gov and choose a national park or a monument. Explore nature, learn the history, and read the stories to discover why it is important to preserve your park. Consider exploring regionally local sites like Fort Scott,
George Washington Carver, Ozark National
Scenic Riverways, Trail of Tears, and Wilson’s
Creek National Battlefield.
2. Imagine yourself in a National Park.
Brainstorm activities that you might want to experience at a national park. Consider working outside with a geologist or inside identifying fossils. Maybe wildfire restoration, building a bridge, or doing a night sky project would interest you! 3. Contact the park and plan. Call the park and identify yourself as a Girl Scout. Ask if there is someone who works with the Girl Scout Ranger Program or a volunteer coordinator. Express your ideas to the coordinator. Together, plan a project to help the park and fulfill your goals. 4. Go to the park and have fun! If your park does not have a volunteer program or is too far away to visit, create a Take Action Project. 5. Share the experience. Share your best shots on Instagram and Twitter using #gsoutdoors (don’t forget to tag @GirlScouts) and you can be part of the largest Girl Scout photo collage in the world.
