 Advocacy & Engagement

Through our Life Skills programs, members will develop a strong sense of self and their potential. They’ll discover the importance of staying active and making healthy choices while becoming a more confident leader who wants to make the world a better place. By giving them different perspectives and opportunities to make a difference, they’ll be inspired to give back and share the good!

.Entrepreneurship

The Girl Scout Fall Product Program and the Girl Scout Cookie Program are two ways for members to earn while they learn and run their own business. The skills they develop—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—will set them up for success beyond anything they could imagine.

.Outdoor Education

Experiencing the outdoors is a great way to develop an appreciation for nature, build skills, and see Earth as our home. Whether your Girl Scout wants to hike in the woods, camp under the stars, or learn how to ride horses, our programs give them the chance to enjoy the outdoors in new and exciting ways!

.STEM

Girl Scouts will get hands-on experiences in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math with a variety of activities that encourage them to explore their interests in STEM careers.

. Adults Required

This symbol indicates that adult supervision is required. Adults must register for these programs.

. Adults Required: Overnight

This symbol indicates that adult supervision is required at an overnight event. Adults must register for these programs, have a current membership, and successfully complete a background check.

Did you miss the registration deadline?

Programs fill up quickly, but if we are able to accommodate a late registration to a program, a late fee of $3 per person will be added. Contact the program registrar at customercare@gsoh.org with how many spaces you want for girls and/or adults, including the name and date of the program, grade of the Girl Scouts, and your contact information. We Have Mega Muddy News!

Starting in 2024- The Mad Mud Challenge will be open to ALL AGES on BOTH DAYS!

Why the change? Girl Scouts will have more options for participating in the Mad Mud Challenge! Now anyone can register for either day no matter their age level. This also helps multi-level troops be able to participate all together.

Will obstacles change?

The course will be updated to about 2 miles and about 18 obstacles. Some obstacles will have two options for completion, one designed for Juniors and up and one for Daisy and Brownies. As always, our course is challenge by choice meaning obstacles can be skipped.

What about my favorite obstacle!?

Don’t worry, fan favorites like the Samoa Slide and Thank You Very Muck aren’t going anywhere! A list of obstacles will be released closer to the program date.

I’m a Junior, Cadette or Senior and I enjoyed having the event for just our age levels...

The first few time slots available at the beginning of each day will be open to only Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador level troops! All other times will be open to all Girl Scout levels.

Get ready to register!

Mad Mud 2024 will be August 10 & 11! Registration opens in early May. This popular event often sells out. Price includes custom fun patch and surprise prize. Be sure to visit gsoh.org/madmud for the most up to date information.

Tree Tappers Festival

Maple Syrup at Camp KJ

Did you know that Camp Ken-Jockety is home to its very own sugarbush? Camp Ken-Jockety’s sugarbush is home to over 400 maple trees which our staff works tirelessly throughout the year to maintain and harvest sap so you can enjoy locally made maple syrup. When the weather is just right, we collect the sap and drive it to our sugarshed where it is processed into syrup by heating it to evaporate out the excess liquid. From January to March, girls and their families can help us tap trees, go on hikes through our sugarbush, celebrate at our Tree Tappers Maple Syrup Festival, and even pick up materials to tap maple trees of your own!

Tree Tapping Day

Now is your chance to tap trees! Help us prepare for the 2024 maple syrup season by helping us tap our maple trees at Camp Ken-Jockety! Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors will learn all about our maple syrup production and you’ll get a look at how we prepare for the maple syrup season.

Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland — Program Guide 33

Today, women make up nearly half of the U.S. workforce yet are drastically underrepresented in many fields - including STEM, indemand jobs, and leadership roles:

• Just 18% of STEM leadership roles are held by women.

• Women represent 15% of engineers and architects.

• Only 12% of computer science degrees are earned by women.

• Less than a third of women students choose to study higher education courses in subjects like math and engineering.

The Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Dream Big Transformational Initiative will reimagine the 220-acre Camp Ken-Jockety and create a STEM immersive campus. Through this project, we will provide girls with the tools necessary to create pathways to indemand careers and bridge the gender gap in the STEM field. With access to cuttingedge programs, a safe place to learn new skills, and mentors encouraging them along the way, our girls will learn about jobs of the future to spark their interest and curiosity.

Troops have the opportunity to make a contribution to the Dream Big Initiative and be recognized with an engraved star that will be displayed on the second floor of the STEM Center.

• The decision to purchase a star must be unanimous for all participating troop members.

• Each registered participating troop member and their parent or caregiver must sign the agreement.

• By participating in this activity, troops who purchase a star will be entered into a drawing & five troops will be selected for an exclusive hard hat tour during the building process.

• Each troop member up to 12 will receive a Dream Big Super Troop Patch.
