FESTIVE SEASON AT THE PALACE 110 years of Christmas Magic 24 December, from 7.30 pm
J
oin us for the 110th Christmas party at the Palace and celebrate the holy winter days in our real fairy-tale setting. As members of our extended family, you
and your loved ones will enjoy a night of enchantment in the Swiss Alps, where family dreams come true. As the sun sets behind snow-covered peaks, families gather in The Lobby Bar, children’s eyes glistening with anticipation, the towering tree casting a spell of wonder over all: Is it really Santa, making his way through the dreamily decorated halls? From cookie baking to movie nights, our children’s programme will keep everyone entertained. Meanwhile, the grown-ups will enjoy the festivities with the more celebratory Christmas dinner. And when it’s time, Santa Claus surprises young (and less-young!) with expertly chosen gifts. We’d truly be honoured to have you join us on these special days. We’ll do everything in our power to make those memories perfect for you. Maybe, if we all ask him to, Santa will surprise us with a white Christmas this year… can you hear the bells jingle, too?

MUSIC MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND
Throughout its 110-year history, music has always taken centre stage at the Gstaad Palace. From Marlene Dietrich to Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, from Benny Goodman to Michael Jackson: the list of artists lodging – and performing – within the Palace walls is long and illustrious. Then and now, live entertainment has been the sweet cherry on top of the dining experience in our restaurants. Partygoers have been revelling in the hot beats and fire rhythms at the legendary GreenGo nightclub since its opening in 1971. This winter season, too, an inspiring blend of music for all tastes (and ages!) awaits you. Or, as German poet Heinrich Heine put it: “Where words leave off, music begins.” So, let’s experience the magic of music!

Behind the scenes, our Food & Beverage specialists from the Cave and Economat teams tirelessly work their magic to ensure your world-class enjoyments. Ladies and gentlemen, please meet our real-world fairies. How would you describe a typical working day?
Economat team: Different seasons bring different guests with different requests. Also, some of the restaurants are open only during the summer, others only in the winter. The activities vary, too, so we need to adjust to that. Cave team: The biggest difference for us is that «PISCINE» is open during summer. So, we

What challenges do you usually encounter?
Do you see a difference in demand for certain products compared to previous years? Economat team: We have many more special requests. Take milk for example: Today, we have all kinds of milk alternatives like almond or oat milk. Vegan options are in high demand as well. We added four flavours of croissants plus vegan options to the breakfast buffet. Cave team: Today’s guests are asking for more rare spirits. They sometimes are difficult to get, and we walk many extra miles to find specific products. Last, but not least, tell us about funny moments at work. Economat team: We always take the time to add some fun to our busy schedule. Cave team: Yes, we often joke around or do a short dance. We love to keep the spirits high.

CHEESE: THE GOLD OF SAANENLAND Founded in 1931, the Molkerei Gstaad is one of the region’s oldest dairies. It is well known for its “Gstaader Bergkäse” with its delicious herb crust. René Ryser, Managing Director at the dairy, talks about the difference between mountain cheese and Alpine cheese, his secret love for blue cheeses, and why he thinks vegan fondue is a complete no-go.

René Ryser from the fields while the cows could feast on the fresh alpine meadows. Today, this tradition is being kept up because it keeps our landscape beautiful – plus, it’s a natural protection against avalanches. What is the most special cheese you produce? Our most special cheese is also our bestseller: the “Gstaader Bergkäse” with its herb coating. We roll all the cheese loaves in a mixture of mountain herbs. This gives them an aromatic crust, very appetizing for the eyes as well. What is the oldest cheese you have in your cave? The oldest loaf is probably around 120 years old. My predecessor has found it some twenty
Do you have a favourite cheese? Of course I love our own products and the alpine cheeses of the region. But apart from these, among Swiss cheeses, Gruyère is my favourite. And secretly, I’m a big fan of blue cheese. I really like Roquefort. Ideally, with a slice of fresh bread and a glass of red wine. And what’s your cheese no-go? Vegan fondue!
