At the dawn of the 20th century, Paris was the capital of the avantgarde. Artists from across the globe flocked to the City of Light, where they created new forms of art and literature and reacted to the fast-paced economic, social, and technological developments that were changing city life. In Paris, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque radically transformed the conventions of painting, Robert Delaunay created his harmonious color compositions, Vasily Kandinsky blazed new trails in abstraction, and Constantin Brancusi reinvented the way sculpture is presented in space. Windows on the City: The School of Paris, 1900–1945 offers a vibrant overview of this time of creative effervescence through selected works from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
