Windows on the City: The School of Paris, 1900–1945 april 22–october 23, 2016 galleries 305–307 • curator: lauren hinkson
At the dawn of the 20th century, Paris was the capital of the avantgarde. Artists from across the globe flocked to the City of Light, where they created new forms of art and literature and reacted to the fast-paced economic, social, and technological developments that were changing city life. In Paris, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque radically transformed the conventions of painting, Robert Delaunay created his harmonious color compositions, Vasily Kandinsky blazed new trails in abstraction, and Constantin Brancusi reinvented the way sculpture is presented in space. Windows on the City: The School of Paris, 1900–1945 offers a vibrant overview of this time of creative effervescence through selected works from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.

film & video
Eija-Liisa Ahtila: The Annunciation may 12– august 28, 2016 gallery 103 • curator : lucía agirre On May 12, the Museum’s Film & Video Gallery will present a new piece, The Annunciation (The Annunciation— Marian Ilmestys, 2010), shot by Eija-Liisa Ahtila (b. 1959, Hämeenlinna, Finland) on the snowy Aulanko Nature Reserve during the winter of 2010. The three-projection installation reconstructs one of the central motifs of Christian iconography, the well-known episode narrated in Luke 1: 26–38. Underlying this contemporary Annunciation is the idea posited by Estonian philosopher Jacob von Uexküll (b. 1864; d. 1944) that the different worlds of living creatures all exist simultaneously, a concept Ahtila uses to explore the nature of miracles and the possibilities of perception and knowledge.

Learning Through Art june 14– september educational area
18, 2016
This original exhibition features some of the works made by the 119 children between the ages of 6 and 12 who participated in the educational program Learning Through Art in the 2015–16 school year. Led by artists Elssie Ansareo, Naia del Castillo, Maider López, Manu Muniategiandikoetxea, Ainhoa Ortells, and Jorge Rubio, the program reinforces the standard elementary school curriculum by using art as an educational tool. Openly talking about art and the creative process helps children explore different themes in a more personal, imaginative way. Employing a wide variety of artistic mediums and techniques, such as photography, painting, sculpture,
video, and performance, this program blurs the conventional boundaries between disciplines and encourages participants to see the world from a freer, more enriching perspective. Art thus becomes a tool for discovering, exploring, and understanding reality, underscoring the value of individual expression and creative freedom. sponsored by
