Southeast Region

The Southeast Region is a state of mind. It is cosmopolitan, crowded and uneasy. Carnival, charming and curious. It has the grace of baroque villages and seafront cities. People from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, here, Brazil is diverse in its urban and human landscape. São Paulo is the largest city in Latin America; Rio de Janeiro is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and the baroque nooks keep the secrets of the gold from Minas Gerais. The commerce is sophisticated, the food too, but the art craft is very attractive and the local gastronomy in its variety is very tasty, from the rural cuisine to the Feijoada, cheese bread and galinha cabidela (chicken on dark sauce), the Capixaba pie and Nova Almeida Quindim.

Throughout its history, the hotel had only two owners, Guinle family and the group Orient-Express Hotels, which bought it in 1989. Several world figures stayed there, as recorded in the Golden Book: kings and queens, scientists, movie, theater and music stars, writers, politicians and business leaders. In 1933, when Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers danced together on the film Flying Down to Rio, having the Hotel as the main scenario, the Copacabana assured its international fame.

C´est si bon

Located in Barra de Guaratiba, out off the excitement of the landmarks of Rio de Janeiro, but only 45 minutes from Zona Sul, the hostel is open to Restinga de Marambaia, one of the few nature reserves that are left to the city. The instant passion for the place of a Frenchman was the impulse for creating this boutique hotel, original in everything. Here, sophistication is not opposed to simplicity. In the all-glass construction and a deck that focuses on the sandbank and opens to the sea, the areas illuminated by external light lead the guest in direct contact with nature. The decor is neat and minimalist, with mined furniture and objects prospected, one by one, in jumble sales and antique shops.

The history of Le Relais begins when the French Charles Figini, at the invitation of a fellow who lived in Rio, came to know the country. Delighted with Barra de Guaratiba, he decided to buy a house there. Later, he wanted to share that exuberant nature - the forest, the sandbank, mangroves and sea - with the rest of the world, and thus, he turned the house into an inn and a restaurant. For the work, he had the support of the also French niece, Alexandra Baillet, who since its inauguration in 2009 manages the Le Relais de Marambaia.

The adaptation project of the house was on the responsibility of two architects, Alessandra Amorim and Armando Batista, but uncle and niece were in charge of decorating the Inn - clean, modern with rustic touches, a French-Brazilian mix of personality and creativity. Each of the five suites received a different treatment, but in all of them there is the fundamental balcony opening to the vastness of the sea.

Eating well is another of the pleasures of Le Relais de Marambaia. With the sea - ubiquitous - as scenario, the restaurant Le Bateau offers a cuisine that emphasized revamps of French dishes such as Brazil’s seafood feijoada. There is also a tasting menu of French dishes accompanied by fine wine. Irresistible are the desserts such as Tarte Tatin, the choco-orange Petit Gateau and grilled pineapple

with lemon sauce, ginger and coconut ice cream. On breakfast, served by the pool, with a splendid view of the sandbank and the sea, the buffet offers homemade delicacies such as breads and jellies.

To know the isolated and desert beaches, some of them only accessible by sea, the Inn organizes boat trips and trails. In the surroundings, and no less fascinating, a boat tour explores the rich diversity of a swamp. In return, guests can relax on the pool deck or request a relaxing massage in their suite, followed by a bath of hot tub (Japanese Ofurô). Le Relais de Marambaia? C’est si Bon ...

Tradition of hospitality in four seasons

The elegance in service to the guests at Toriba was established with its opening in 1943 as well as the objective of providing “peace, joy and happiness”, meaning of the word Toriba in Tupi-Guarani language. During these nearly 70 years, the hotel has adapted to modernity, preserved nature and pines of its surroundings and molded its attractive hospitality to each season of the year and to the healthy mountain climate. On cold days when the temperature falls and the sun creeps among the pines, it lights up fireplaces and heaters, celebrating the warmth. Spring brings the allure of the species that take care of the gardens, divided into marigolds, wallflower, primroses, petunias and daffodils. Summer is the time to go out, take a deep breath and let you be guided by the nature sports. And autumn displays reddish hues, inspiring passion. For each of these scenarios, Hotel Toriba is presented with a beautiful and charming option for vacation or weekends, just 173 km away from São Paulo.

The Accommodation Not only for its respectable natural beauty, Toriba is one of the most traditional and comfortable hotels in Campos do Jordão. Its dependencies and the frescoes by the painter Fulvio Pennachi recall the glamor of the midcentury. The painting of this Italian living in Brazil, which depicts quaint moments of rural life, date from 1943 and extends for 60 meters on the walls of the fireplace room, of Vindima Bar and Pennachi. Opened in 2009, Confraria Colonial is the realization of a dream of São Paulo businessman Fabio Gonçalves: create a hotel of total relaxation in an atmosphere of exquisite good taste reminiscent of Brazil Cologne. The site should have a mild climate, well-defined seasons, not far from the capital. He found what he wanted in Mairinque, 40 minutes from São Paulo: an area of 180 thousand square meters with a wide range of rainforest (30.000 m²).

Relax with style

He named his project with the suggestive name of Confraria (brotherhood), a word that comes from the Latin frater (brother), reminding the fraternity, host. And it is like this: The guest who gets here for the first time, becomes a brother and starts receiving special treatment. Likewise, wine and gastronomic brotherhoods find here a tailored place to their meetings.

The hotel is designed in baroque-colonial style, inspired in big houses of the golden time of the mining and coffee. Fabio himself, a collector of pieces of Baroque art, was in charge of decorations. The furniture blends original and replica parts - the first purchased at auctions and demolitions of historic farms; the copies, recreated by artisans in the cabinetry which is placed inside the Hotel’s terrain.

Northeast Region

The Northeast Region seems mistress of the sea. It extends beautiful and alluring by the coast of white sands and turquoise sea. It exhibits history, simplicity and passion. This is the land of country people and raft fishermen, people who love the past, which is preserved in the rural area and on the coast, in big cities or small towns built on hills like naive paintings. The cycles of gold, sugar cane and cocoa bequeathed the beautiful relics of colonial and baroque architecture, Spanish and Portuguese people left their colored and black mirth; their Nago singing, the rhythm of the Berimbau and Conga drums. The Northeast flavor comes from delicious fruits, coconut milk and seafood, sun-baked beef with liquid butter and spicy dishes watered with palm oil.

Paradise is here

Inserted into an area of environmental protection, Pousada Terraços Marinhos is located at Península de Maraú, Bahia among native forests, mangroves, lagoons, coconut trees and oil palms. All of this natural beauty has attracted a family in São Paulo in 1997 to stumble upon a picture of the region: the Canavarro Batista family then decided to see up close those semi-deserted beaches and preserved forests. It was an enchantment at first sight. The son Alexander stayed there, working as an engineer and cultivating fruits, vegetables and coconut which supplied the region’s lodges. The idea of opening the hotel was a family dream. Finally, in 2008, Terraços Marinhos opened on a land that once belonged to two farms. The chosen name came naturally, like everything else in the history of this inn: Terraços Marinhos is a typical formation of the local terrain – they are undulation terrains similar to small dunes.

The adaptation design of the two seats in hotel they were held unique features, some native rusticity, also highlighted by the decor, because part of the pieces was ordered to local artisans or acquired in trade fairs in Bahia. Two pleasant terraces overlooking the sea are in front of the house and over the pond in the backyard, where there is a privileged view of the sunset. The beauty here is a constant. The loungers and hammock in strategically placed gazebos scattered throughout the garden, the look is lost in the ocean horizon. From the lookout point, above the treetops, 10m high, it is possible to admire the lagoon and the sea. With luck, the observer may get surprised by dolphins and humpback whales on their route across the Atlantic or turtles nesting in the sand or walking along the beach.

Reflexive moments switch with a lot of activity - on the tennis court, in the gym, on walks and bike rides and water sports (the Inn has kayaks, surfboards, diving masks). There is also the part-Olympic pool and, as relaxing is always great, the other pool has a “wet bar”. The tip is to make a house native drink (caipirinha), prepared with special cachaça and a different and very good ingredient - the cocoa honey - extracted from

Península de Maraú stretches for 40 km of deserted beaches of white sand and crystal clear warm waters. The hardiness of the preserved landscape is reflected in the decor of the Inn, adding all modern comforts. The guest, who arrives, is divided between the desire to be out enjoying nature or browsing to integrate the environment

the fruit produced on the farms on the peninsula. It is this honey that sweetens the juices served on breakfast, accompanied by bread, homemade cakes, delicious tapioca and fruit from the orchard of the farm. Meals are glorious moments. The fish almost always freshly caught, are served in a variety of recipes. One of them is the crusted with coconut fillet and mashed cassava. Most of the ingredients are from the region, the fresh vegetables come from the garden of the farm. To accompany, a good wine list with Chilean, French and Portuguese labels.

The natural delights of sustainable luxury

Vila Naiá hotel is among the most exclusive destinations in Brazil. In 2011 it received world-respected “Condé Nast Johansens Guide” the prize of best beach hotel in South America Occupying an area of 50 thousand square meters, protected by a thicket of palm trees and dunes, it reproduces the charm of a fishing village in southern Bahia. Idealized by the owner, Renata Mellão, and designed by the architect Renato Marques, it opened in 2004, after 12 years of observation and interaction with the region. Facing the beach of Corumbau, that in the language of Indians Pataxós, means “far away from all worries,” and next to a Private Reserve of Natural Patrimony, Vila Naiá combines the local rustic simplicity to the finesse of a business establishment with international standard. the

With four houses and four suites, Vila Naiá adopts the concept of “sustainable luxury,” a unique experience of contact and integration with nature without sacrificing comfort, design, good taste and quality hosting. The decoration consists of a mix of colors and styles ranging from vintage to rustic harmoniously. Based on the construction of homes of fishermen, all rooms have windows on opposite cardinal points to give way to the breeze that blows from the sea. Wooden walkways connect all environments of the “Vila” and in these open spaces and gardens they were used only native species, avoiding the strange varieties from the biome area. Even the name of the hotel is part of this concept: it comes from Indaiá, coconut palm, abundant in the region, called “Naiá” by the Indians of nearby reserves. In the almost deserted beach of white sand, warm and calm waters, the tranquility of guests is total. The bar service takes drinks and smoothies for those who want to stay in the sun. In the pool area, “Quadrado” is the main social area of Vila Naiá, with bar, wireless

The Amazon River with the biggest volume of water in the world and its flowing cut through the region, influencing cities, trade, customs and gastronomy. The archipelagos of freshwater Mariuá and Anavilhanas are impressive, with their 1.100 islands covered with virgin forest.
