Passionate Hoteliers ... Complementary Partners

The Founders Creating a great hotel requires an imaginative concept and manic attention to details. Comfort, Taste (food and design) & Adventure. These three words were our guiding principles in terms of concept. We also wanted to be generous, we wanted to provide great value, we are family friendly, we are pet friendly, we care about the environment, we are casual and elegant with impeccable attention to style and details. HUUS Gstaad has the best views in the Gstaad / Saanen area. We acquired the property with the objective of creating a unique concept. We launched a design competition. Norwegian-Swedish designer Eric Johannson won the competition. Together we created the idiosyncratically-luxurious, award-winning interior you see today. All three of us want you to have an incredible experience at HUUS Gstaad Hotel. Günter Weilguni - CEO Mirka Czybik- General Manager Marwan Naja - Chairman

Greetings, my mountain with the redly radiant summit! Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805)

In front of us stood the dark-blue mountain summits, trenched with furrows, covered with layers of snow, drawn against the pale horizon, which still retained the last glow of dusk. In the dark sky stars were beginning to twinkle, and strangely it seemed to me that they were far higher than in our northern homeland. 12

The HUUS Lobby

HUUS Lobby, La Terrasse & Le Bar The lounge, with its adjacent library, is the warm and relaxing heart of the hotel. Like the HUUS Gstaad is designed around a central area comprising the lobby, bar, living room, recepguest rooms, it is furnished in natural, traditional materials and rich, organic colours. Sitting on a high, bare summit, and looking over a wide expanse, I can say to myself: here you are sitting directly on a ground that extends downwards as far as the deepest places on earth. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1823) 19

The Library The mere physical elevation of a league above the sea level seems to raise one by moments to a sphere above the petty interests of everyday life. Why that should be so … I leave to philosophers to explain. Leslie Stephen (1832-1904)

Le Chalet Le Chalet – our very cosy chalet in the garden—everything revolves around cheese. Cheese of the finest quality and, of course, some that are exclusively from the local region. Savor some classic Swiss fondue and raclette by the crackle of the open fire in this extremely welcoming environment. It’s hard to imagine anything more Swiss, anything that will give you more of a relaxing feeling or even anything more indulgent. And in the warmer seasons, we grill all kinds of local specialties at our lovely outdoor barbecue party in front of the chalet. Bon appetit! 31

La Cave Of course, you will have to find our hidden cave. Lying behind a heavy iron door, steps take you down to our “Grotto” and into the unique feel of an old mine. It is the perfect setting for aperitifs for up to 200 people, for your “Swiss Grotto Evening” including culinary specialties from Saanenland or for your after-dinner party. Our resident DJ is also available — naturally. Anything but business as usual! 32

walks with diverse aims in mind: picnic, campfire, grilling sausages, collecting specific plants and much more Amongst friends, as a family or as a group of colleagues, rafting is a group activity that can be enjoyed by all. The upper Sarine River, and its varying scenery, is one of the most beautiful rafting courses that exists in Switzerland. A gentle start, followed by a more adventurous series of bends and folds, with a scattering of rapids in the Vanel and Gérignoz gorges, the Sarine offers a whole range of emotions to enchant all spectators. Conditions for rafting and canyoning on the Saane and Simme Rivers are nothing if not exhilarating, especially while the snow is melting. But even at the height of the summer a rafting adventure on the cool waters is lots of fun for the young and young at heart.

Summer

HUUS Summer Saanenland is simply an outdoor paradise. The unspoilt natural countryside inspires people to get out and keep fit, whether on the ground, in the air or on wheels. What all sports and activities have in common is pure mountain air. Over the past few years, the region has evolved into a biking mecca, and is also connected to interregional bike routes. No matter whether a flat stretch along a mountain bay or beautiful single trails through the forests — with more than 300 kilometres of GPS tours, Gstaad and the surrounding area offer a variety of choices for beginners or advanced cross-country and mountain riders.

The level of difficulty is set on the day of the hike and according to guest requirements. The hikes are led by a local guide who knows the most beautiful parts of the region. Hikers from ten years of age can enjoy the pristine landscapes and mountain lakes and marvel at the imposing waterfalls without a care — just wonderful for hiking! From Zweisimmen to Pays d’Enhaut, there are numerous climbing routes in the Gstaad region for professionals, families or beginners. With the Alpinzentrum Gstaad you can test your own limits, and maybe even exceed them, while under the safe instruction of a mountain guide. Register now for the next tour at the HUUS!

He let the cable car lift him and his wooden skis … steeply upwards, and drifted leisurely to the top, abducted two thousand meters high, on shimmering slopes of powder snow, which, when the weather was clear, offered a sublime view over the landscape of his adventures. He rejoiced in his achievement, before which the inaccessibility was opened up and obstacles dwindled to almost nothing. Thomas Mann (1875-1955)

The morning was perfectly clear. Suddenly he saw – about twenty paces from himself, as it seemed to him at first – pure white masses with their gentle outlines, and a bizarre, distinct aerial line of their peaks and the distant sky. And when he understood the distance between himself and the mountains and the sky, the whole vastness of the mountains, and when he felt the infinity of that beauty, he was afraid that it was an apparition, a dream. He shook himself to wake himself up; the mountains were still the same. Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy (1828-1910) 89
