For the RTC Mascot Election, our Key CLub Officers were giving each other ideas of what character should be our mascot for our RTC Term, just in case we’re able to do RTC as we come back from school. Since the theme has already planned to be about Mario Kart, our officers were trying to decide which Mario Character would best suit our school. First, we had the option of choosing Luigi, as his uniform suits the colors of Green Valley. Then, we chose Wario, until we finally chose King Boo to be our official mascot for the RTC Rally.

Since DCM is based off of a video chat system now, Google Meet is the app that’s used in order to attend the monthly meetings for some important information. So far, our Lieutenant Governor, Lorelai Casillian, has created a social bonding system for the club’s division, so we can know each other well and have stronger social bonds with each other as a club. This system is the common Pen Pal system, where one’s assigned with a person, and is able to write letters to them. The rest of the meeting then is about finding ways to do service hours at home, and to stay updated on events our LTG has for us on meetings and Instagram.

Cards for TLC! Green Valley Key Club is still doing the activity of making cards for the elderly who live in the TLC care center. So far, Green Valley Key Club Vice President, Isabelle Jones, has made more than 100 cards! Not only has she made cards to the people who are residents to TLC, but to staff members during teacher appreciation week as well!. Check them out!.

Cards for St. Rose Hospital Like the Cards for TLC, our Key Club has also made an activity where our members would create cards for the people in St. Rose Hospital. This time, the same Key Club member who has made more than 100 cards for TLC and Staff members, takes charge of collecting all the cards made for the patients, and sending them out to the Hospital. The infographic for this activity is posted on our instagram, and here’s some demonstration ideas our Officers made for this sort of activity. Like the residents receives the cards being sent to TLC, the patients from St. Rose Hospital would appreciate the cards being sent to them a lot!

(Isabelle Jones has also made cards for St. Rose Hospital too.)

(Here’s some cards that I, Kassandra G. Espinoza, GV editor of Key Club, made, for St. Rose.)

Ever since the unfortunate event that happened to to George Floyd due to being victim of police brutality, everyone from all around the U.S.A. started to burst in outrage, protesting all over the streets for his justice. This makes us all aware that racism still sadly exists today in this country. The happy part of this though is that almost every person in every state of the U.S.gathered to participate in the justice for George Floyd, whether it is protesting in the streets, posting on their social media pages about this event affecting us all, and sending out links to each other in order to petition for him and the many other Afro-american lives that has been unjustly taken away. It is amazing that everyone around the U.S.A is participating in fighting for the rights of our people (mostly the Black Lives in this time of matter) yet our Key Club wants you all to know that we have been aware of this issue too. We just at first didn’t know how to manage this situation as a group due to it being a political situation. Then, as we later knew that this situation is more likely having to do with human rights, our club is now headbutting in to finding a way to take action for this one devastating event that has broken the hearts of many Americans (especially African American citizens). So far though, Our Green Valley Key Club is now releasing a Google Doc post of many links and information about the justice for Black Lives, and how to behave ourselves into fighting this longtime issue of racism, even though the death of George Floyd has already been justified with the outcome of his main offender being righteously raised to be charged for 2nd degree murder, and the other 4 policemen now being convicted as well. It will then be posted for you all to see when finished.

Hello Everyone, Welcome back to the Green Valley Key Club’s Newsletter. The month is May! May was a learning experience for our club. Our officers have been having meetings throughout May. Through these meetings we were able to find at-home service events & plan for our first Online General Meeting on the 11th! At the meeting, we announced the RTC theme (Mario Kart), at - home service events, and some end of the year initiatives for our members. For service hours, our members can write a teachers appreciation email, make masks, make cards for TLC Care Center & Saint Rose Hospital, and even do yard work for neighbors! As May is closing out, we have received photos & summaries of people serving their communities! Overall, May has been A-okay! Angel Mascarenas 2020-2021

This month has been an ok month. So far, I’ve started creating cards for Saint Rose, and am willing to try and create more for TLC, since I’ve only concentrated on St Rose. Like last month, there isn’t really much to do for our club, except for creating service activities that we can do, while still practicing social distancing during these times of difficulty. Speaking of social distancing though, all went well until the unfortunate event that has happened to George Floyd that one Memorial Day. As I saw the instagram post of this man being beaten and held down by 4 police officers TO DEATH, I had the same outraging reaction like the many people who has seen that video. Like - C’MON NOW! First the COVID pandemic and now seeing this poor guy unjustly being strangled to death by four police officers, then figuring out that the perpetrator of this act was only charged for “Manslaughter”? It’s too much to handle for the year of 2020. Our nation should know better than to do an unjust act like this!. I thought police brutality was over eversince the L.A. riots of Rodney King, and that our generation of millenials have finally put an end to racism and police brutality towards minorities (In this very case, The African American people in our nation)!.....Turns out I was wrong…. Then, as all the presidents in our division heard the news of people’s response to George Floyd’s incident, and all the protests going around the whole U.S. nation, they’ve all started to have a discussion on how Key Club can take a part of the justice for Mr. Floyd, then discussing it with our officers. Green Valley Key Clubs officers has already had this discussion and we feel bad as a club for not taking action for this event immediately like everyone else. In response, we are now going to post a Google Doc link of our information supporting BLM and that what has happened to George Floyd was wrong. I just hope incidents like this never happen again, and that we can one day realise that WE’RE ALL HUMAN BEINGS who deserve to be treated with respect!. That way, There can finally be world peace.
