GAME NOTES

BONNIES HOST HAWKS IN FRIDAY NIGHT SHOWCASE

• St. Bonaventure plays in its first ESPN Friday Night Showcase game this season when Saint Joseph’s visits the Reilly Center. Since the 2020-21 season, the Bonnies are 5-2 overall and 3-0 at The RC in Friday Night Showcase games, though this is their first time playing in the conference’s highlighted TV timeslot since a March 2022 win over Richmond at home. • The last time the Bonnies played on home court, they handed Rhode Island its first A-10 loss of the year as the Bonnies tallied their most points in regulation vs. an A-10 opponent in over four decades when they dominated the Rams, 99-64 Jan. 17. The last time St. Bonaventure topped that offensive output in regulation vs. an A-10 foe was Jan. 5, 1981 in a 104-80 win vs. UMass. • The Bonnies have produced a winning Atlantic 10 record in eight of the past nine years, averaging over 11 A-10 wins per year since 2014-15. • Chad Venning is on this week’s Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll for the second consecutive week. He averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in two games last week, including a game-high 17 points at George Mason Saturday and a career-high six blocks vs. Rhode Island last Wednesday. • Charles Pride scored a season-high 25 points in last Wednesday’s win over Rhode Island, his best scoring effort since a 21-point game in the season-opening win vs. Longwood. He had 23 games of 20 or more points scored during his four seasons at Bryant. This season, he ranks second among all A-10 players in 3-point percentage (47.0%).

• Pride has just seven turnovers in over 488 minutes of game time, ranking eighth nationally in turnover rate. Point guard Mika Adams-Woods also has 61 assists against 24 turnovers. • Daryl Banks III poured in a career-high 36 points in last February’s win at home over Saint Joseph’s, going 10-for-18 from the floor. • A key for the Bonnies could be their ability to get to the foul line - when they get there, they’re one of the best in the nation, shooting 77.8% (11th nationally), but their 16 foul attempts per game rank just 270th in the country. • Bona’s defense enters the game allowing 65.6 points per game to opponents, ranking 44th nationally. • Bonnies head coach Mark Schmidt has 20 wins in 28 matchups vs. Saint Joseph’s. The only Atlantic 10 team his teams have defeated more times: Duquesne (24).

• The start to A-10 play has been a rollercoaster for Saint Joseph’s as the Hawks opened conference play with three straight losses – at Rhode Island (78-74), at Saint Louis (88-85) and vs. Loyola Chicago (78-75) in a trio of heartbreakers back-to-back-to-back. Since, though, the Hawks have been rolling as they’ve won three straight, including turning the tables with wins in nail-biters vs. Duquesne (71-69) and this past Tuesday when a putback by Lynn Greer III with 1.4 seconds to go gave the Hawks a 78-77 win at UMass. • Erik Reynolds II scored a season-high 31 points in Tuesday’s win and leads the team in scoring at 18.2 ppg. • Saint Joseph’s had a strong non-conference slate, taking Kentucky to overtime before losing on the road and then winning at Villanova, 78-65, just over a week later. The Hawks also picked up a quality win over Princeton at home. • The Hawks have been prolific from beyond the arc – they average nearly 11 three-pointers per game, good for seventh in the country and most in the A-10. They shoot nearly 37 percent from long range, led by Reynolds who ranks ninth nationally in threes per game (3.37). SJU averages nearly 78 points per game, good for third in the A-10, while their defense holds opponents to 39 percent shooting for the year which is 12th nationally. • SJU was picked for a turnaround season, taking fifth in the A-10 Preseason Poll with Reynolds and grad student Cameron Brown both selected to the preseason all-conference teams, earning spots on the first and third teams respectively. The Hawks brought back 10 letterwinners and over 2,100 points of offense off last year’s team, ranking fourth nationally in percentage of offense returning at over 88 percent.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK The GoBonnies.com Student-Athletes of the Week presented by CPL are women’s basketball senior Dani Haskell and men’s basketball graduate Charles Pride. During Bona’s Jan. 17 contest at Duquesne, Haskell eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career. She has tallied 1,029 career points, having entered the season with 801 points in three seasons at Canisius. Haskell leads the Bonnies at 12.7 points per game while shooting 83.7 percent from the free throw line, ranking fifth in the Atlantic 10. Dani haskell

The Bonnies are back in action Sunday at Dayton. The game will be broadcast live nationally at noon on CBS Sports Network. Pride posted a game-high 14 points Tuesday night at Duquesne for his 10th game this season of double-figure scoring.
