TEAM STATISTICS
GAME NOTES • St. Bonaventure evened its Atlantic 10 record at 6-6 with a convincing win at Fordham on Wednesday night, avenging a loss last month at home to the Rams in an 85-67 decision.
• Assa Essamvous had one of the finest shooting performances in recent memory for the Bonnies, pouring in a career-high 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting including 7-of-7 from beyond the arc at Fordham. It set a new program record for three-pointers in a game without a miss. Wednesday’s game was a return to form for the second yearplayer. Essamvous entered the night shooting just under 30% for the year from long range, but shot nearly 42% from distance as a freshman. • According to sports-reference.com, only two other Division I players this year have gone 7-for-7 or better from three-point land without missing an attempt: Owen Lobsinger of Western Michigan (Jan. 20 vs. Bowling Green, 7-7) and Blake Hinson of Pitt (Jan. 20 at Duke, 7-7). Since 2010, it has only happened 49 times in a D-I game. • Bona is the only Atlantic 10 team to score multiple conference wins so far this season when rallying from 13 or more points down. The Bonnies stormed back from 20 points down to win at home over VCU on Jan. 30 and later erased a 13-point deficit for a Feb. 7 home win vs. UMass.
• Chad Venning has scored in double figures in all but one A-10 game (six points at Duquesne Jan. 23) and 13 of the last 14 contests overall. • Noel Brown also posted a career-best 18 points in Wednesday’s win, going 7-8 from the floor with five rebounds.
• Mika Adams-Woods had a career-best 10 assists Feb. 14 at Fordham. His previous best of eight was set earlier this season at Buffalo and vs. Miami (OH) in back-to-back games.
• Bona shot 66.7% from 3-point land in the win at Fordham (12-18). The Bonnies have shot over 60% from beyond the arc while making double-digit treys twice this year, also going 12-19 at Niagara in December.
• Assa Essamvous had the best 3-point shooting performance of the season by any Atlantic 10 player, percentage-wise, when he went 7-for-7 beyond the arc at Fordham Feb. 14. Essamvous and teammate Mika Adams-Woods are the only two A-10 players to have a perfect performance on 3-point attempts this year when making five or more treys in a single game. Adams-Woods went 5-for-5 in a December win at Niagara. • Chad Venning has 92 blocks the past two seasons with the Bonnies, already moving into the program’s top-10 list. He currently stands eighth in school history with Jerome Spellman, ‘96, next up on the list with 97. • Venning is on pace to soon become Bona’s fifth active 1,000-point scorer. He has 954 points entering the weekend.
• Daryl Banks III has 114 3-pointers as a Bonnie the past two years – that total ranks 18th in program history. Banks has made 76 of those 3-pointers in games played at the Reilly Center. Next up: Zarryon Fereti, ‘07 (117).
• Mika Adams-Woods owns 388 career assists after handing out a career-best 10 helpers in the Feb. 14 win at Fordham. That total ranks fourth among all active Atlantic 10 players behind only Braden Norris of Loyola Chicago (636), James Bishop of GW (425) and Jhamir Brickus of La Salle (389). • St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt is closing in on a career milestone as he now owns 297 wins at the helm of the Bonnies. Schmidt, who has 379 coaching wins overall, is Bona’s all-time wins leader.

GAME NOTES SERIES HISTORY This will be the 19th meeting between the teams and the 15th since Davidson joined the Atlantic 10. The Wildcats hold an 11-7 series lead and have been Bona’s nemesis in recent years, winning seven of eight meetings from 2016-20 before the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship season for SBU when the Bonnies scored two key wins in a home-and-home series. Davidson won last year’s matchup outside Charlotte. The Bonnies do have a winning record vs. the Wildcats in the Reilly Center at 4-3, though Davidson has won the last two matchups overall including the last game played in Western New York, 81-76, back in February 2022. The first-ever meeting between the schools came in the 1970 NCAA Tournament when the Bonnies won, 85-72, en route to that year’s Final Four.

ABOUT DAVIDSON • Davidson ranks at the bottom of the Atlantic 10 in offense this year at 71.0 points per game, a total that is also 255th nationally. Defensively, the Wildcats have been much better, standing fourth in the A-10 and 42nd in the country by holding opponents to 66.5 ppg. • The Wildcats rarely have unforced errors – Davidson is 35th in the country for fewest turnovers (10 per game). • Senior Grant Huffman leads the A-10 with 121 assists on the year, good for five helpers per game. Huffman paces the team in scoring as well at over 13 points per contest, also averaging five rebounds in over 33 minutes per game. • Davidson is having to make do without the services of second-leading scorer David Skogman who posted 13.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 17 contests before being lost for the season due to injury. The 6-foot-10 forward started his collegiate career at Buffalo. • A familiar name still leads Davidson – though the face is a little different. Matt McKillop is in his second season at the helm, taking over for his father, Bob, who led the program for 33 years until his retirement in June 2022. A Davidson graduate, Matt McKillop had been the program’s associate head coach since 2016-17 and is in his 16th season overall on the Wildcats coaching staff.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK This week's CPL GoBonnies.com Student-Athletes of the Week are men's track freshman Brendan Chapple and women's tennis junior Abbie Tyler. Chapple broke St. Bonaventure's oldest existing school record – in any sport – with a new top mile time Saturday afternoon for the Bonnies men's track team at the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games. Chapple timed in at 4:17.94 on Saturday to surpass the existing school indoor record of 4:19.6 which had stood for nearly a century. Gus Moore held the record with his time set 97 years ago at the 1927 Millrose Games in New York City.
brendan chapple
A first-year student-athlete at St. Bonaventure from Waterloo, Ontario, Chapple previously stood fourth in the Bona record book with a time of 4:21.24 set just a week ago at Youngstown State. In Saturday's race, Chapple finished ninth out of 87 competitors. Tyler helped the St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team to a 6-1 win over Binghamton in the home opener last Friday afternoon. Tyler teamed up with Cirkeline Lundberg at No. 2 doubles, taking down Abby Ackroyd and Samantha Jaros, 6-0, helping the Bonnies clinch the doubles point. A native of Weymouth, England, Tyler carried her momentum into singles play, capturing a straight set victory at the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-1, against Maria Pereira.
abbie tyler
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday and Sunday at the SBU Tennis Center, hosting Little Three rival Niagara and Slippery Rock.
