PATTY FORENZ PATTY FORENZ

PULTENEY, NY: Patty

Forenz went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

Patty was born in Bath on January 9, 1955 to Betty and the late Laurence Kennedy. She was a 1973 graduate of Hammondsport Central school and a 1975 graduate of Morrisville College with a degree in accounting. She worked at Hall Equipment, then Frey and Campbell before putting her career on hold to be home for her children in their early years. Patty is perhaps most known for being the friendly face at Dr. Sam’s dental o ce where she worked for well over 30 years once the children were in school.

Patty married her husband Nick (Dominick J. Forenz), of nearly 48 years on July 24, 1976. ey were high school sweethearts spending a total of 52 years of their lives together.

roughout her life Patty was always positive and caring when it came to interacting with others. She truly enjoyed bringing joy to others. Her smile was contagious, and she would bring cheer to your day. You would feel a sense of calmness just because you were in the room with her. She truly celebrated everyone and made them feel special, loved, and amazing for being who they are. Because of this she touched an incredible number of people’s lives. Her children and grandchildren were everything to her. ey were her priority. She placed their needs and those of others she knew before her own. She was present at every sporting event, concert, spelling bee, and awards ceremony; she was always there and because of this her grandchildren would expectantly be looking for her at these functions. She recognized both the biggest and smallest accomplishments, giving a thoughtful gi for a coach or teammates, or recognizing her husband, children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Patty volunteered throughout her life in many roles, most of them centered around the activities of her children and grandchildren. She volunteered in the Nursery school classroom, elementary classrooms, was President of the PTA, and helped organize and run the Pulteney Jr. League. Patty was a member of the Hammondsport Methodist church and in later years, a longtime communicant of St. James Episcopal church in Hammondsport where she also served as Treasurer, taught Sunday School, and volunteered for many of the church’s other activities.

She is survived by her husband, Nick; her son, Ken (Stacey) Forenz; and grandsons, Ethan and Nathan. She is also survived by her daughter, Heather (Bill Schrage) Forenz and grandson Orion. She is survived by her mother, Betty Kennedy; sisters, Rebecca (Sam) Heusler, Teresa (Jack) Gleason, Tammy (John) Perkins; her brother, Tom Kennedy; Brother-in-laws, John (Beth) Forenz, and Tom Forenz, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.

She was predeceased by her father, Laurence and sisters-in-law, Michelle Bonnette Forenz and Shelley Kennedy.

In lieu of owers, donations may be made in Patty’s name to: St. James Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.

Calling hours will be from 4:00PM - 7:00PM on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main Street, Hammondsport, New York. A celebration of Patty’s life is planned for Saturday, June 15, 2024 at St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport at 10:30AM.

e Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home is honored to assist Patty’s family with the arrangements.

WE, THE TAXPAYERS OF WHEELER: are wondering why we are having a pub- lic meeting June 10th, 6:00 pm, on the issue of electing versus ap- pointment of Highway Superintendent. We had voted on this issue in 2022 election with a 2/3 NO vote. Does our vote actually count? It will not if we let overreachgovernment take our rights away! What’s next? Come, speak your mind, you’ve paid for it with our new land appraisals.

ANNUAL DRINKING WATER QUALITY REPORT FOR 2023

Village of Bath with Water Districts

Public Water Supply ID# NY5001206; Village of Bath; NY5001225 District #1; NY5001227 District #2; NY5030073 District #4; NY5030074 District #5; NY5030085 District #6; & NY5030116 District #7

INTRODUCTION

The Village of Bath owns a public water supply. In addition to residents and business in the Village of Bath, the Village’s public water supply is also provided to residents and business in Town of Bath water districts. For this reason, the Village’s public water supply is referred to as Bath Consolidated, and has the public water supply identification NY5001206. Bath Consolidated is operated, maintained, and improved by the Village’s utility department, Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems (BEGWS).

To comply with State and Federal regulations, BEGWS annually issues a report for Bath Consolidated describing the quality of your drinking water. The purpose of this report is to raise your understanding of drinking water and awareness of the need to protect our drinking water sources. This report provides an overview of last year’s water quality. Included are the details about where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to State standards.

If you have any questions about this report, or concerning your drinking water, please contact Erin Bonacci, BEGWS Director of Municipal Utilities, by phone at (607) 664-9103 or via email at ebonacci@begws.com

include: microbial contaminants; inorganic contaminants; pesticides and herbicides; organic chemical contaminants; and radioactive contaminants. In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the New York State Department of Health and the United States Environmental Protection Agency prescribe regulations which limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. The New York State Department of Health’s and the United States Food and Drug Administration’s regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water which must provide the same protection for public health.

Our water source is groundwater, which is drawn from four (4) wells, each drilled over eight feet in depth, located in the Village of Bath. Bath Consolidated has two storage tanks with a combined storage capacity of 2.5 million gallons. BEGWS operates an integrated water distribution system. This means that water from any one of the four groundwater wells may be delivered to any customer depending upon which well is in operations at any specific time. Chlorination treatment is provided for disinfection of the water in the distribution system, maintaining an average free chlorine residual of 0.88 mg/L, a high of 1.54 mg/L and a low of .23 mg/L for the year. Fluoride treatment is provided to prevent dental decay. There is presently enough water to supply all demands, including firefighting. During 2023 our system did not experience any restriction of our water source.

ARE THERE CONTAMINANTS IN OUR DRINKING WATER?

A Source Water Assessment Summary will be included when the data is available from the New York State Department of Health.

FACTS AND FIGURES

We want you to be informed about your drinking water. If you want to learn more, please attend any of our regularly scheduled meetings of the Village of Bath Municiple Utility Commussions. Regular Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month, at 4:30pm, in the large conference room of the BEGWS Commerical Office which is located at 7 South Avenue, Bath New York 14810. We want you to be informed about your drinking water. If you want to learn more, please feel free to contact us so we can discuss any drinking water issues with you further. Our water system serves approximately 5,400 people through approximately 2,122 service connections. The total water produced in 2023 was 278,440,282 gallons, or an average of 762,850 gallons of water per day treated and pumped

DO I NEED TO TAKE SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS?

Although our drinking water met or exceeded state and federal regulations, some people may be more vulnerable to disease causing microorganisms or pathogens in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice from their health care provider about their drinking water. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other microbial pathogens are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

IS OUR SYSTEM MEETING OTHER RULES THAT GOVERN OPERATIONS?

During 2023, our system was in compliance with applicable State drinking water operating, monitoring and reporting requirements.

INFORMATION ON FLUORIDE ADDITION

Our system is one of the many drinking water systems in New York State that provides drinking water with a controlled, low level of fluoride for consumer dental health protection. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control, fluoride is very effective in preventing cavities when present in drinking water at a properly controlled level. To ensure that the fluoride supplement in your water provides optimal dental protection, we monitor fluoride levels on a daily basis to make sure fluoride is maintained at a target level of 0.7 mg/l. During 2023, monitoring showed that fluoride levels in your water were within 0.2 mg/L of the target level for 75% of the time.

WHY SAVE WATER AND HOW TO AVOID WASTING IT?

Although our system has an adequate amount of water to meet present and future demands, there are a number of reasons why it is important to conserve water:

• Saving water reduces the cost of energy required to pump water and the need to construct costly new wells, pumping systems and water towers; and

• Saving water lessens the strain on the water system during a dry spell or drought, helping to avoid severe water use restrictions so that essential firefighting needs are met. You can play a role in conserving water by becoming conscious of the amount of water your household is using, and by looking for ways to use less whenever you can. It is not hard to conserve water. Some conservation tips include:

• Automatic dishwashers use 15 gallons for every cycle, regardless of how many dishes are loaded. So get a run for your money and load it to capacity.

• Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.

• Check every faucet in your home for leaks. Just a slow drip can waste 15 to 20 gallons a day. Fix it and you could save almost 6,000 gallons per year.

• Check your toilets for leaks by putting a few drops of food coloring in the tank, watch for a few minutes to see if the color shows up in the bowl. It is not uncommon to lose up to 100 gallons a day from one of these otherwise invisible toilet leaks. Fix it and you could save more than 30,000 gallons a year.

SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

We continued proactively surveying our distribution system for leaks. We continued addressing identified leaks within our system on mains, valves, hydrants, and service lines in an effort to reduce our water losses. In addition to repairing leaks, we began proactively replacing troublesome and leak prone water main. In 2023, we began replacing water main and service lines on Haverling Street. This work is scheduled to be completed before Summer 2024.

ed with service lines and home plumbing. Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems is responsible for providing high quality drinking water and removing lead pipes, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components in your home. You share the responsibility for protecting yourself and your family from the lead in you home plumbing. You can take responsibility by identifying and removing lead materials within your home plumbing and taking steps to reduce your family’s risk. Before drinking tap water, flush your pipes for several minutes by running your tap, taking a shower, doing laundry or a load of dishes. You can also use a filter certified by an American National Standards Institute accredited certifier to reduce lead in drinking water. If you are concerned about lead in your water and wish to have your water tested, please contact Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems at (607) 776-3121. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps

NOTES:

1. The level presented represents the 90th percentile of the 21 sites tested. A percentile is a value on a scale of 100 that indicates the percent of a distribution that is equal to or below it. The 90th percentile is equal to or greater than 90% of the individual lead and copper detected on the water system. In this case, 21 samples were collected for lead and copper on the water system and the 90th percentile value was 0.13 mg/L for lead and 0.003 mg/L for copper in 2023. The action levels for copper and lead were not exceeded at any of the sites tested.

DEFINITIONS:

Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible.

Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG): The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.

Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.

Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG): The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbial contamination.

Action Level (AL): The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements which a water system must follow.

Treatment Technique (TT): A required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water.

Level 1 Assessment: An evaluation of the water system to identify potential problems and determine, if possible, why total coliform bacteria have been found in our water systems.

Level 2 Assessment: An evaluation of the water system to identify potential problems and determine, if possible, why an E. coli MCL violation has occured and/or why total coliform bacteria have been found in our water system on multiple occasions.

Non-Detects (ND): Laboratory analysis indicates that the constituent is not present.

Nephelometric Turbidity Unit (NTU): A measure of the clarity of water. Turbidity in excess of 5 NTU is just noticeable to the average person.

Milligrams per liter (mg/l): Corresponds to one part of liquid in one million parts of liquid (parts per million - ppm).

Micrograms per liter (UG/L): Corresponds to one part of liquid in one billion parts of liquid (parts per billion - ppb).

Detailed engineering design was completed in 2023 for the water main replacement on State roads within our Villages (i.e., State Route 54, State Route 415), with construction anticipated for the 2024-2025 construction season. This water main replacement work has received $3,000,000 in grant funding through New York State’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act funding program.

These contaminants include: total coliform, inorganic compounds, nitrate, lead and copper, volatile organic compounds, synthetic organic compounds and radioactive contaminants. The table presented below depicts which compounds were detected in your drinking water. The State allows us to test for some contaminants less than once per year because the concentrations of these contaminants do not change frequently. Some of our data, though representative, are more than one year old. Lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children.
