Nothing can be more frustrating than wanting to begin a project only to spend precious time looking for tools. Almost as important as the investment in tools is the investment in tool storage. Hardwood or metal tool chests feature various drawers and cabinets that can house tools of different sizes. By keeping tools in a chest, they’re easy to find and more likely to stay sharp and in good condition. Metal tools should be stored in a cool, dry area, as dust and moisture can cause rusting issues on metal tools. One way to alleviate rust is to spray metal tools with a product like WD-40 to serve as a moisture barrier, then store them in closed drawers or containers. All tools do not necessarily have to be stored in a garage or work shed. Many homeowners like to keep smaller tools in the house so that frequently used items are within reach. A hammer, wrench, pliers, and a few screwdrivers are handy tools to have around inside the house.

WHAT TO DO WHEN A PROJECT STALLS Ask for help. There’s no shame in asking for help to complete a project. Some homeowners may underestimate the scope of a project until it’s too late. Asking family, friends or neighbors for help might be the only way to get a stalled project back on track. Certain home improvement projects may not require advanced skills, and even friends or family with little or no home improvement experience can pitch in to complete such projects. When more advanced projects stall, homeowners may want to hire contractors to complete the work. If budgets have not left much room for hiring a contractor, homeowners can perform some of the labor on their own.

CORRAL ENTRYWAY CLUTTER The entryway to a home is the first thing guests experience when coming inside. It also can be the first place residents drop their belongings after long days at school or work. As a result, entryways can quickly be consumed by clutter. Taming such messes takes a mixture of ingenuity and planning. Homeowners hoping to clear their entryways of clutter must first decide what they want to get out of the space. Will it simply be a decorative spot with photos and other home decor on display? Or is functionality the primary goal? Once that decision has been made, take inventory of which items, such as shoes, keys, umbrellas or coats, need to be in the area, which don’t (i.e., old mail). To make things more organized, rearrange the former while removing the latter. Next it is time to assess storage needs and what’s already available. User-friendly storage items may need to be purchased to make the room as functional as possible. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) A suggestion from a colleague on how to work out a problem might not sit too well with you. But before you suspect his or her motives, why not just accept it as a friendly gesture? TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) An associate might seek your counsel on a workplace dispute with another co-worker. Listen to what she or he has to say, but withhold advice until you’ve heard the other side of the story. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Use your Twin gifts for creativity and practicality to score points in landing an opportunity that could open doors to a new career. Someone returns after a long absence. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Although things are pretty hectic through much of the week, some quiet time with loved ones helps restore balance. An unexpected visitor brings welcome news about a mutual friend. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Getting used to change isn’t always easy for the Big Cat. But make the adjustments gradually, and soon you’ll hardly remember when things were any different from how they are now. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Continue to stay the course you’ve chosen, and avoid distractions that could throw you off track. Some knowledgeable folks are happy to provide guidance if you need it. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Although you earned plaudits from most coworkers for your recent stand on a workplace situation, you also raised the envy quotient among others. Tread carefully for now. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) You feel more positive about that delayed project, and you’re ready to pick it up on a moment’s notice. However, you might need to re-motivate those who have since lost interest. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Some welcome news should be coming your way. In the meantime, use that Sagittarius charm to convince some stillreluctant colleagues that your ideas have merit. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Don’t wait for a misunderstanding to work itself out. Instead, ask for a chance to explain the circumstances before those bruised feelings lead to an irreversible break. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) A physical problem should be checked out in order to avoid it going from just being a nuisance to something more serious. Your social life takes an unexpected but not unwelcome turn. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Yours might be the wisest sign in the Zodiac. But you still could benefit from the wisdom of a close friend who has suggestions on how to handle a perplexing personal problem. BORN THIS WEEK: Your passion for doing the right thing inspires others to follow your well-trodden path toward justice. (c) 2019 King Features Synd., Inc.

Lawn Mowing and Landscaping

PLANT A TREE FOR SUCCESSFUL GROWTH Visit a garden center or nursery and select a tree that will be hardy in your planting zone. Choosing native trees can increases the likelihood that the new tree will adapt to its surroundings. Also, inspect trees to determine if they’re healthy before taking them home. Look for evidence of root girdling, which occurs when the roots circle around the perimeter of the container and surround the trunk. Trees should not have any dead or dormant branches. The DIY Network suggests locating the tree where it can thrive. This means selecting a spot that can make it easier for the tree to grow tall and wide. Avoid planting near the house, where roots can crack concrete or asphalt, and always plant away from underground pipes.

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation. It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from and Old Manse

REMODELING

RESTORE RUSTY TOOLS Many people may be tempted to discard rusty tools that have gone unused and sat in a garage or shed for a significant period of time. But tools encrusted with rust do not need to be relegated to the trash bin, nor do gardeners have to toil for hours scraping and sanding off the rust. There’s a much easier way to restore rusty tools that relies on a common household ingredient: vinegar. Pour vinegar into a deep enough vessel to submerge the metal part of the tool. Soak the tool overnight. The next day, use a scouring pad to rub off the rust. If the tool is too big to fit into a can or bucket, simply wrap it with a vinegarsoaked rag and cover the whole tool with a tightly secured plastic bag. Follow the same procedure the next day. After all the rust is gone, rinse the tool in cool water and dry thoroughly. Then return it to regular usage.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING TIPS (NAPSI)—These five tips can help you be prepared for the perils of the road.

1. Know Your Car. Like people, each car has a unique personality. Some features work better than others, and conditions can cause a vehicle to react a certain way. Knowing your car’s limits and behavior patterns can help you predict how it will respond in certain situations. How long does it take you to stop and how much pressure is required on the brake pedal? What’s your turn radius? Does your vehicle lean when you round a corner? Does it quake when you hit a certain speed? Knowing the answers can help you avoid accidents.

3. Know Your Blind Spots. Most cars have at least one line of vision that’s not clearly evident in the rearview or side mirrors. Even carefully placed mirrors often cannot cover every possible angle. Move the side mirrors far outward so that the angle of view barely overlaps the view of the rearview mirror.

4. Keep Your Hands on the Wheel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now advocates keeping your hands at the 9 and 3 o’clock positions instead of 10 and 2 because of air bags. 5. Keep Up on Maintenance. Routine work on your auto, like oil changes, fluid refills and tire rotations, can make all the difference in your car’s drivability. Your Medicare Open Enrollment To-Do List (NAPS) - You may be happy with your current Medicare coverage, but it pays to shop around. Here are a few things to keep in mind. Don’t shy away from shopping. Plan details change each year, so the policy that was best for you in 2018 may not be your best option for 2019. Changes to premiums, deductibles and co-pays can be costly. An analysis of more than 17,000 people using Medicare.com to compare Medicare plans found that just 10 percent were enrolled in the lowest-cost plan for their prescription drug needs. Those who switched to a new drug plan stood to save an average of $611. Watch for changes in drug coverage. Read any letters from your insurance company outlining changes in your prescription drug coverage. Insurance companies often tweak their formulary, or list of covered drugs, each year. That can mean higher out-of-pocket expenses for you. Compare coverage for your prescriptions under any new Medicare plan you consider. Be sure your doctors participate in your plan. Double-check to make sure your preferred doctors will still be part of your health plan’s network next year. You’ll pay more to see non-network providers, and some health insurers won’t cover out-of-network providers at all, except in an emergency. Compare services. MedicareAdvantage plans tend to offer additional benefits you can’t get with Original Medicare. These can include dental, vision, hearing and even fitness benefits. Shopping for Medicare plans can seem daunting, but there’s a range of services out there to help enrollees navigate them. Read up on your options and don’t hesitate to work through a licensed agent to help match you with the best plan for your needs. A health insurance agent can help you find the Medicare plan that’s best for you.

CROSSWORD

Penny Saver

“Hello, I’m Gary. I was found as a stray five years ago, and given to my owners, knowing they would take good care of me. My owners call me a “gentle giant”, as I weigh 18 pounds. Of course, I enjoy napping, but I also love to snuggle, meet new people, and play with my four brother and sister cats. I look forward to daily screen time with my owners, when I get to watch videos of birds and other outdoor creatures. Some of my other favorite things include empty boxes, human shoes, squirrel watching, and dinner time. Although I share my owners’ time with other furry friends, I will always have a special place in their hearts.”

Beer Terms

• Hops: People just beginning to explore craft beer will no doubt hear the word “hops” a lot. Hops refers to the herb added to boiling wort or fermenting beer to impart a bitter aroma or flavor. • IBU: Expressed as a number, sometimes on the bottle or can in which the beer is sold, IBU stands for “International Bitterness Units” and indicates the hop bitterness in the finished beer. The higher the IBU, the more bitter the beer. • ABV: ABV stands for “alcohol by volume” and indicates the amount of alcohol in beer in terms of percentage volume of alcohol per volume of beer. • IPA: IPAs are incredibly popular among craft beer drinkers. An IPA is a style of beer and stands for India pale ale. These beers boast a strong hop bitterness, and many provide a piney, floral flavor. IPAs tend to be high-ABV beers and come in different varieties. American IPAs, Imperial or Double IPAs and English IPAs are popular styles. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Hannah Bercel of Honeoye Falls Wins The Price is Right! By Amanda Dudek ribbing. “I didn’t even high five anyone or acknowledge them,” confessed Hannah. “I was so excited, so much adrenaline.” When asked about some of her favorite moments on the show, Hannah didn’t hesitate. “It was really cool for me to meet Drew Carey,” she enthused. “My whole family watched ‘Whose Line,’ especially my sister, Sarah and I. Drew Carey and I also made up a little dance together, which was so cool and fun. And winning, of course,” she added. “That was fun.” Win she did, scoring a karaoke machine and two round-trip vacations, one to New Mexico and the other to New Hampshire. “I did really well,” said Hannah. “After the episode aired, I could finally tell people. It was hard keeping my mouth shut!” Hannah is thrilled with her prizes. “When you go on stage, you compete to win the first prize you bid on, which was a karaoke machine,” explained Hannah. “Then I played ‘Switch?’ I was shown two trips and two discounted prices. I had to decide between switching them or leaving them as is.” She switched them, and the rest is history. Hannah Bercel and her Aunt are ready for The Price Is Right!

H

annah Bercel of Honeoye Falls was recently a contestant on the ever-popular game show, The Price is Right, in an episode which aired Monday, March 18th. Bercel, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, moved to New York just two years ago last September to marry husband, James. “My husband works at the Elim Bible Institute in Lima,” explained Bercel. “So, I moved here. James is from Michigan, so it is just the two of us here, creating a life together.” Hannah, who enjoys singing, playing the piano, camping and other “outdoorsy stuff,” appeared on The Price is Right during a family vacation to California. “We went to visit family in California last February,” she said. “My aunt asked me if I wanted to go see The Price is Right. She lives pretty close to LA, so she always receives emails asking if she would like to be in various studio audiences.” Always enjoying a game show atmosphere, Hannah said The Price is Right was something she grew up on. “If you get sick and you have to stay home from school, you watch the Price is Right,’’ she explained. ‘‘I was all for it!’’ Entering the studio, Hannah had no idea she would soon be part of the show. “We got to the studio and waited for about 2 hours,” said Hannah. She described the entrance process which involved having your photo taken and your ID checked, filling out a waiver and answering a few questions. “They separate people into groups of about 25, and they go down the line interviewing you very quickly,” explained Hannah. “I think my first hint that I might be on the show was that they talked to me for a while longer, asking me a lot of questions.” Although her aunt was positive she would be on the show, Hannah still didn’t want to get her hopes up just yet.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Hannah said. “I work for a small missions organization where we all had lunch and watched it together when it aired. It really brought together all of my family and friends, from California and Kansas City to Michigan and New York. I love them all, and everyone was so excited for me.” While Hannah It was a oncehas already had two radio interviews since being on the in-a-lifetime show, her plans moving forward experience. head in another direction. “I plan to eventually get my BA is Social Work,” said Hannah. “I would - Hannah Bercel like to help people in tough situations.” Have something interesting youíd like to share with our readers? Then, another clue came with her seating. “I originally had an aisle seat, but the producer asked me to switch seats with my aunt so that I would ‘fight through the crowd,” recalled Hannah. “I still did not know if I would be called up though. They want you to be surprised.” Her suspicions became a reality when she saw someone hold up a poster board with her name on it. “They had to do that because in the studio it is really hard to hear,” explained Hannah. “I heard part of my last name and looked up. I was just dumbfounded. I believe I was the 2nd name called, and I definitely wasn’t expecting that!” Hannah said since she thought maybe she might be called up when they had to replace people, she was very surprised. “I ran right up’” said Hannah. “Afterwards, my aunt said, “Hannah, you know, sometimes people hug their families and get excited with them, but the first thing I look up and see is your butt in my face!” Hannah laughed, recalling her aunt’s good-natured

that lasted for 30 years. No treatments worked. The only sign my doctor could find was that my throat had scars from coughing that long. My allergy specialist had tried for years with all kinds of prescriptions, to no avail. I am now living a normal life since a doctor prescribed tramadol (50 mg) twice a day. What a relief. My wife, grown children, friends and clients are happy. -- L.G. ANSWER: I found only a single case report of tramadol being used for chronic cough, and it was effective in that patient. The authors advised further study on its use. Tramadol is a pain medication distantly related to codeine. Its abuse potential is low, but there have been overdoses and deaths due to this drug, so I don’t recommend its indiscriminate use. However, I have seen personally and received many letters from people with intractable coughing for years, so much so that I wanted to call attention to this as a possible treatment worth discussing with one’s doctor for people with longstanding cough that has resisted diagnosis or treatment. I previously mentioned taking gabapentin for laryngeal neuropathy, a condition that is often unrecognized and that may present with a prolonged cough. I received many letters telling me it was effective. Tramadol at the low dose (for an adult) you mention usually is safe. ***

radiation seed therapy for prostate cancer in 2003 after a biopsy revealed a Gleason score of 7 (3/4). Afterward, his PSA was only 0.1 to 0.3 the first three years, and it rose only .3 more each year until 2015, when it was 2.7 recently. He is 83. He has been told he must have hormone treatment: shots, pills or both, by his VA provider, who is not a urologist and who says he should see one. He has no symptoms, he says, and he leads a very active lifestyle, with daily walking of 3 miles or more, bowling twice a week and extensive gardening and yard work. Could the rising PSA be due to normal exercise activity, including production from surviving prostate cells? -- R.A. ANSWER: Rising PSA after cancer treatment typically is due to cancer returning, not an increase in normal prostate. However, that does not mean that your friend “must” have treatment. Goals for cancer treatment in an 83-year-old man may be very different from those of a 20-year-old man. In his case, since it took about 10 years to increase by 10 times, it may be a very long time before the probable cancer would be large enough to bother him, and it requires skill and experience to determine whether treatment, which can make quality of life worse, is worthwhile. Many urologists would recommend deferring treatment until and unless he develops symptoms. I certainly would recommend that he go to see a urologist as his VA provider has recommended. He may be able to learn whether it really is the cancer returning and discuss his options. Shots and pills are options, but so is keeping a careful eye on it and not rushing to treat. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Say Goodbye to Erectile Dysfunction

How Acoustic Wave Therapy Works:

The #1 cause of Erectile Dysfunction is poor blood flow due to blocked or hardened blood vessels. Unlike pills, needles, and creams that DO NOT treat ED, only the symptoms, Acoustic Wave Therapy is a “treatment” that will OPEN existing blood vessels and STIMULATE the growth of new blood vessels, making it possible to achieve a full and rigid erection. At Alpha Wave Medical we treat the root cause of Erectile Dysfunction with our proprietary FDA cleared Acoustic Wave Therapy. This type of treatment may provide long-term results and allow men to stop injecting or orally consuming chemicals to achieve an erection. The Therapeutic Advances in Urology Journal concluded that “Acoustic Wave Therapy aimed outside the body is a revolutionary treatment of ED.” The physicians and professional medical staff at Alpha Wave Medical will assist and manage your treatment protocol.

however- due to poor management and nepotism, this previously abundant employer can no longer find work in our field. Not only does this company practice horrible customer service, but they also treat their long time, loyal employees with disdain and disrespect. As a union member I am disgusted and horrified by the lack of appreciation this LLC has shown its employees over the past few years. If anyone is waiting on this company for work in the coming months- be prepared to be disappointed.

STUDY WHAT YOU LOVE—ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS THE PATH TO SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT

Entry level positions available (immediately) to perform Special Inspections and Testing of material in the Rochester, NY area. EIT, ACI and NICET certifications preferred but not required. Training is available.

(NAPSI)—The United States has long been considered a leader in entrepreneurial pursuits, with everyone from ambitious self-starters to certified moguls making their way here from around the globe to transform dreams into realities. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Development Institute, the United States provides the best environment for cultivating entrepreneurship, ranking first out of 138 countries. On the flip side, however, first-time business owners have only an 18 percent chance of succeeding. So how to bridge the gap between the dreamers and the triumphant? If you’re a student looking for a way to make your passion into your career, you may be glad to learn there’s a college program that can put you on the right path, while also providing you with a classic liberal arts education. The new Entrepreneurship minor course of study at Pennsylvania’s Lycoming College provides a modern approach to a liberal arts education, while preparing students to start a company of their own, to work for another entrepreneurial company or to be more entrepreneurial within a larger company. The program is headed by Marshall D. Welch III, the Sloter Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship at Lycoming College, who is an accomplished entrepreneur with extensive experience advising and managing organizations, merger integration and emerging growth companies. He also approaches entrepreneurship differently from others. Welch believes that entrepreneurship, at its core, is finding and creating value, and that studying entrepreneurship as an academic discipline helps students learn to be innovative in whatever field they ultimately pursue. In less than one year, Lycoming College’s entrepreneurship classes have become a sought-after, valued addition to many students’ class schedules. The program is built on the notion that any student’s core education, regardless of academic major, can be augmented with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to take a business idea to fruition, such as innovation, digital marketing, intellectual property and financial skills. “My No. 1 objective is to create a world-class experience for students by joining the liberal arts with entrepreneurship,” said Welch. “I believe that the core knowledge of any entrepreneur is first his or her primary field of study, whether that is biology, archaeology, music or any of the other majors at Lycoming. Then add the practical knowledge and skills necessary to help our students become successful entrepreneurs or even work for entrepreneurial companies.” Firmly grounded in the liberal arts, the College has modernized its approach to higher education by offering courses that better prepare students for the 21st century. Still in its infancy, the program is already attracting well-known speakers to campus. Jay Ducote, celebrity chef and restaurateur, who has appeared on Food Network and Travel Channel, recently lectured to the College community on how he followed his passion and took risks on his road to success. “Lycoming is resolute in its mission to offer students a 21st-century education, and I believe our entrepreneurship offerings are an important part of that charge. Thinking deeply and making bold decisions to do something the world has never seen, while also staying true to your passions, accurately describes the students at this institution—a truth that also closely aligns with the principles of entrepreneurship,” said Welch.
