The western coast boasts a great tradition for fly fishing. There are several fishing opportunities in Northern California if you just go up towards Oregon and get to Washington State. Many of these rivers certainly owe their reputation also to the beauty of the surrounding landscape, but many others to the quality of fishing. Partendo da San Francisco in direzione nord, la prima tappa è nelle vicinanze della cittadina di Redding per pescare nell’area dello Shasta Lake e i suoi affluenti. Ad un paio d’ore

This area also has a very important history, and sure enough several authors of articles and books on fishing mention it as one of the best ones on the western coast. verso nord si arriva al leggendario Mc Cloud, uno dei più belli a ovest degli Stati Uniti, fiume a tratti calmo come un chalk stream inglese, popolato da grosse brown. Al confine con l’Oregon merita fare una fermata nella zona del fiume Smith, fra i pochi ancora integri e senza dighe. Se non per pescare, questo fiume merita anche solo di essere visto. Appena più a nord si arriva nella famosa zona di Klamath Falls, dove i fiumi abbondano, insieme ai servizi offerti a pescatori

di passaggio. Una sosta andrà sicuramente fatta per le grosse trote che risalgono dal lago verso il fiume Williamson. Questa zona ha anche un passato storico molto importante, sono infatti molti gli autori di articoli e libri di pesca che indicano quest’area come una delle migliori della costa Ovest. Qui, inoltre, vivono alcuni dei migliori costruttori di artificiali degli Stati Uniti. Sempre in direzione nord incontriamo una zona molto interessante attraversata da fiumi come Deshute

fatto sì che questa zona abbia un indotto turistico molto importante derivato dalla pesca. È qui che vedrete grandi negozi e decine di barche pronte a partire per giornate charter di pesca al salmone. A questo punto, dalla vostra partenza da San Francisco avrete ormai percorso più di 1000 miglia e probabilmente avrete catturato molte trote nei fiumi più belli del West degli Stati Uniti.
