Welcome to Haileybury
To be educated at Haileybury is a life-changing opportunity. Our pupils learn in a magnificent setting, have access to world-class facilities and are able to take advantage of the most remarkable range of academic and co-curricular opportunities. Our beautiful campus sees pupils learning, playing and living in a safe and green environment, yet we are only a short train ride away from London, one of the greatest cities in the world.
While all of these features set Haileybury apart for the best of reasons, it is our people who make the School truly exceptional. Our dedicated team of staff work tirelessly to support the learning, wellbeing and personal development of every child; they go the extra mile to encourage, challenge and inspire our ambitious pupils to be the very best they can be. We are an open-minded and outwardlooking community, happy to share ideas and to learn with and from our local and international partners.
We work to high standards at Haileybury and we have high expectations of our pupils – both in and outside the classroom. ‘Service’ is a core value and we place great stock in Haileyburians being self-aware young people of good character, who can walk and work with people from every background.
Our examination results are excellent and our pupils achieve great things across our co-curricular programme. They go on to the top universities in the UK and around the world. Their success is, of course, the result of hard work but there is a sense of joy around Haileybury. School days should be fun and we believe that young people do their best when they are enjoying what they do.
A Haileybury education is special. We look to the future and we are committed to providing an education which is 21st Century relevant, an education which ensures that every pupil leaves school equipped with the values, skills and qualifications they need to thrive.

Community
Haileybury is a warm, diverse, and inclusive community that welcomes pupils from all over the world. Our “pupil first” attitude cultivates an environment where kindness, tolerance, and mutual respect flourish. We encourage our pupils to develop a strong sense of social responsibility, engaging in community outreach programmes and charitable fundraising.
Opportunities
Our extensive co-curricular programme offers a wealth of experiences that complement academic studies, fostering character development and lifelong passions. From sports to arts, technology to community service, Haileybury provides the platform for pupils to discover and nurture their talents.
Preparing for the future
We are committed to equipping our pupils with the skills, knowledge, and values they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our focus on innovation, coupled with respect for tradition, ensures that Haileyburians leave as confident, well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact on society.
Curriculum
We want all of our pupils to be academically curious, intellectually ambitious, creative and imaginative. We believe that our pupils should be equipped with powerful knowledge that allows them to understand and make sense of the world around them and our unrivalled curriculum supports pupils to understand how to apply this powerful knowledge and seek out opportunities to use it with imagination.
We want our pupils to go beyond what has already been thought and said. Our distinctive education allows pupils to identify as subject specialists and to understand the responsibility that comes with being at the forefront of academic enquiry.
In Years 7 and 8, the curriculum consists of a strong core of subjects, which is complemented with extended workshops in technology and computing, extended periods for music and drama, and two full afternoons of PE and games. As pupils progress into Year 9, the core is further complemented by a series of bespoke courses, which range from Advanced Astrophysics to Advanced AI, Security and App Design; these enable our pupils to start following their passions.
In Years 10 and 11, by offering all of our pupils the chance to study ten or eleven GCSEs, we ensure that the curriculum retains breadth.
Into the Sixth Form and our broad and balanced curriculum is offered through choice: pupils can choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or three or four A levels.

Community
Life at Haileybury
Everyone who comes to Haileybury is bowled over by the positive relationships between all members of our school community. This is rooted in our strong House system and the time we spend getting to know the pupils in our care.
The School is co-educational with twelve Houses in the Main School (six for boys and six for girls) and a dedicated House for Lower School pupils. On joining Haileybury, new pupils are allocated to a House and from the start, new pupils feel welcomed and part of their House communities, supported and mentored by the older pupils and Prefects.

Each House is led by a Housemaster or Housemistress (HM) who becomes the key person in your son or daughter’s school life, someone who knows them closely and is always looking out for them. This group of exceptional individuals ensure the mental and physical health, wellbeing and academic progress of each and every pupil in their care. HMs are supported by matrons, Assistant HMs, Resident Tutors and a team of tutors so there is always someone on hand to help or just have a chat. 11-18

Boarding life in Houses is varied, diverse and fun. The relationships developed last a lifetime, whether in activities, trips, rehearsing for House music, birthday parties, welcoming new pupils, relaxing in the common room, winning, losing and everything else in between.
More than two thirds of pupils are boarders but day pupils can enjoy the benefits of wrap-around care, activities, sport and all-round provision. While some pupils may go home after sport on Saturday afternoon, weekends are fun, purposeful and relaxing, with a wide range of activities laid on.
Whichever House pupils are placed in will be the best one for them. A great deal of consideration is given to House allocation and to ensuring each pupil is placed in a House where they will both flourish and forge strong friendships.
There is a friendly rivalry between Houses in competitions but the quality of care is equally excellent in all Houses and is supported by a highly experienced and engaged pastoral leadership team.

At every stage in their Haileybury career pupils are encouraged to take on roles of responsibility and to develop their leadership skills. Service to others is a central tenet of a Haileybury education and our pupils are challenged to work in teams, lead others and grow as individuals; always seeking to give back to the wider community.
House Prefects are appointed to help in the day to day running of the Houses under the pupil Head of House, who is nominated by their Housemasters and Housemistresses.
There is also a comprehensive system of Peer Supporters across each House, led by the Wellbeing College Prefects and overseen by the Deputy Head (Pastoral).
The pupil school leaders are known as College Prefects (CPs) and are appointed by the Master. Our Prefects are crucial in setting the tone for the School, influencing attitudes and providing a link between pupils and adults across the campus.
Trained in safeguarding, they play a key role in pupil wellbeing and are central to our commitment to supportive pastoral care.

Sixth Form and beyond
Haileybury’s Sixth Form offers an exciting and empowering experience for pupils, allowing them to choose between A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB). This flexibility enables pupils to tailor their education to their aspirations and passions, supported by a wide range of courses and expert Heads of Departments.
Beyond academics, Haileybury provides numerous opportunities for personal growth and exploration. Pupils can engage in exciting enrichment programmes such as Stan-X- a pioneering genetic study, Model United Nations, top-level sport, Combined Cadet Force,
spectacular drama productions, music events, and much more, ensuring there is something for everyone. The School prides itself in catering to all-rounders while at the same time nurturing individual talents and interests.
Pupils in Year 12 are also leaders of the Pupil Committees. Working alongside mentees, the Pupil Committees are focused on a different area of school life such as Sustainability, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Community. Committee members are passionate about putting forward suggestions and actively implement initiatives and events that positively impact the school community.

Haileybury’s commitment to its pupils extends beyond their time at the School. The Futures team equips pupils with the necessary information, guidance, and assistance to plan their future paths.
The School hosts a successful Futures Fair, allowing pupils to meet representatives from universities and various organisations to discuss their options, whether they are considering university or other increasingly recognised valuable alternatives such as degree apprenticeships, or even a purposeful gap year.
Haileybury recognises that university education is now a global marketplace. While many pupils apply to UK institutions, Haileybury also has a wealth of experience to support pupils with applications to universities worldwide. Popular international university destinations for Haileybury pupils include France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Canada and the United States.
Haileybury pupils have success with Oxbridge, Ivy League, and top European university applications. The School also has a strong track record with LSE, Imperial College, and medical school applicants.
Haileybury’s Head of Futures has in-depth knowledge of the US system, providing valuable insights for those considering studying in the States. Additionally, as an SAT test centre, the School offers the convenience of on-campus testing.

Co-curricular
Haileybury offers a vast array of activities, designed to enable each pupil to confront obstacles in their way, learn more about themselves, become more confident and shape their own identity. Central to this is exploration beyond the academic curriculum – whether on the sports field, in the drama studio, in debate or elsewhere.
Of course, every child is different and the team have worked hard to develop an enviable range of activities designed to challenge and educate in equal measure. From Climbing and Scuba Diving to Film Making and the Model United Nations, and countless activities in between, there is something for everyone.
We want our pupils to be excited by the co-curricular offer. The opportunity for new experiences, emotional rewards and character development are practically limitless.
At Haileybury, it is important for each and every pupil never to be left wondering what might have been. So if pupils have ideas for things they want to do we actively encourage them to make it happen.

Sport
Sport plays a pivotal role in Haileybury life. It allows every pupil to develop their confidence and character through physical, technical and mental stimulus, as well as through teamwork and leadership opportunities.
Our ‘sport for all’ ethos means that we want all our pupils to enjoy sport regardless of experience or ability. We regularly have 20 teams for each of our core sports, hockey, rugby, netball and cricket with well over 1,000 fixtures a year across more than 25 different sports in total. Pupils enjoy coaching from professional coaches as well as Haileybury staff.

Music
From chapel choir to symphony orchestra, chamber music ensembles to pop, rock and jazz groups, music at Haileybury provides a unique opportunity where all talent finds both a home and a stage.
We believe that music should be a whole-school endeavour and each day, our pupils sing unashamedly and with gusto in the School’s magnificent Chapel. Ours is a programme providing a holistic vision of music-making where pupils are both nurtured and inspired to be the best of themselves.
Music lessons are available in almost any instrument. Concerts, orchestras, bands, ensembles and choirs provide many opportunities and we undertake regular concert and opera trips, biennial music tours and musicals co-produced with the Drama Department.

Drama
Drama at Haileybury offers an exceptional opportunity for self-expression, communication and reflection. In addition to acting, pupils of all ages are able to develop a range of skills such as theatre work, prop making, film-making and lighting and sound.
Each year there are three co-curricular drama performances as well as a range of clubs and technical workshops that pupils can get involved in to enhance their passion on or behind the stage. Pupils also have the opportunity to take LAMDA lessons, working with an excellent team of tutors who provide first-class tuition on a solo, paired or group basis. Pupils can participate in acting, improvisation, public speaking and Shakespeare examinations.

Clubs and Societies
Clubs and societies play a key role in the co-curricular programme at Haileybury. By joining a club, or by setting one up which doesn’t already exist, each pupil will be able to discover, share and learn more about these interests.
Haileybury has a wide variety of clubs and societies open to pupils of all ages. There are over 130 clubs and societies including Model United Nations, Debating Society, Robotics, Investment Club, Eco Group and Photography Club.

Service and volunteering
Service is core to the Haileybury ethos and all our pupils, from Lower School all the way through to Upper Sixth, are encouraged to participate in volunteering and fundraising initiatives.
The service activities our pupils undertake are aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By linking service and volunteering initiatives to the SDGs, we provide our pupils with a framework to understand the interconnectedness of global issues and inspire them to take action.

Service and volunteering activities at Haileybury include a diverse range
of projects and partnerships that foster collaboration, leadership, and empathy. From fundraising events for charitable causes to volunteering at local organisations, our pupils gain valuable hands-on experience and develop a deep sense of civic engagement and sense of responsibility towards the world around them.

SciTech - opened March 2024
At Haileybury, we believe the future workforce and society more broadly is going to be shaped by science and the interconnecting disciplines. Our brand new, state-of-the-art SciTech Centre ensures that our pupils not only learn science but have the opportunity to become scientists themselves.
The new buildings include science laboratories, state-of-the-art IT suites, robotics amenities, design technology facilities, a dedicated Research Centre and a VR room. There are also twenty interconnected teaching and seminar spaces and an outdoor courtyard.
The Research Centre is home to international and pioneering research including the prestigious Stan-X
project, which is run in partnership with scientists from Stanford University.
In addition, a space mission is planned to launch a CubeSat into space so that pupils can learn about spacecraft systems engineering, mission planning and orbital mechanics. Pupils will benefit from learning from leading industry experts in this mission.
