The unending generosity of so many animal advocates never ceases to amaze me.
S
ummer has faded into memories jam-packed with animal charities, fundraising and volunteering. Capping off the dog days were the most successful Pet Hero Awards ceremony to
date and the celebrity-packed Hampton Classic Horse Show. These events are just two of the many great reasons to be in the Hamptons in August. Guests flew in from across the country to attend the Pet Philanthropy Circle’s 3rd Annual Pet Hero Awards. The evening kicked off with poolside cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as honorees, presenters and guests gathered for the evening’s awards. Opening the ceremony to the patriotic song, I’m Proud to Be an American, was The Spirit of Long Island Mounted Drill Team. Prince Lorenzo Borghese charmed the audience when he and tweeting to his fans as he accepted the Humanitarian of the Year Award. Other honorees making a difference included socialites Amanda Hearst and Georgina Bloomberg, who received Outstanding Rescue Committee Award for Friends of Finn. Andy Sabin, Philanthropist of the Year, inspired his award presenter, Yankees’ co-owner, Jerry Cohen, to match his generous donations. The unending generosity of so many animal advocates never ceases to amaze me. This holiday season, don’t forget our furry friends and how your donations help save animals. Now, please sit back and Hamptons Pet. And, please, remember to play with your pets! Cheers! Jewel Morris

This iconic and luxurious hotel exudes the ultimate in style and elegance, welcoming guests and pets with European flair and heartwarming service. Often called the “Social Center of Berlin,” the Adlon is the place to pooch and people watch. Hollywood’s A-list demands the best, and the Adlon has long been their hotel of choice. Notables like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Garbo, Einstein, Roosevelt and Rockefeller have graced its corridors. In 2002 the world gasped as Michael Jackson dangled his nine-month-old son from a fourth floor balcony. At Hotel Adlon Kempinksi, pets are accommodated without size limit. With notice, the concierge staff arranges for rooms to be luxuriously furnished with water bowls, plush pet beds, treats, toys and food. Pet sitters can be arranged upon request.

PUPS WAITING PATIENTLY In Berlin, dogs stroll through malls and go to the cinema with their human companions. While many shops, clothing stores and cafés are welcoming, grocery stores and pharmacies typically do not permit pets inside. At these establishments, a photo of a dog can be seen with a sign explaining “wir muessen leider draussen warten” (“unfortunately, we have to wait outside”). Berlin dogs are especially obedient and respectful and are seen around town waiting patiently for their people to return.

Is it really possible to create a no-kill world? GC There are now more than 200
communities that have reached the benchmark of saving more than 90 percent that enter shelters. When Best Friends began, there were 30 million animals dying in shelters—it has now dropped to around 4 million per year. There are still plenty of lives to save, but with the help of thousands of animal Dogtown is where the canine residents of Best Friends Sanctuary restore their vibrant At Cat World, staff and volunteers provide a variety of activities that

legislation, how does one stay motivated? GC The spirit and commitment of so
many people continuing to save cats and dogs and believing in the progress is tremendously uplifting. It inspires all of us to continue with this work despite the horrors. Those of us involved are primarily motivated by the deep love we feel for animals and the value they have. That will never change. What can the average animal lover do to get involved? GC We at Best Friends want as many
animal lovers as possible to be involved. They can help by adopting pets, spaying and neutering, volunteering and donating to local animal rescues, and encouraging others to help in the same way. Yes, eventually, together we will Save Them All®.
