Neighbors Bringing Out The Best Haverford Residents Helping Each Other

HHS teachers and administrators would not let the class of 2020 graduate without a celebration. Hailed as the “community graduation” the teachers-led by the various fire departments - went door to door delivering diplomas. Hands down BEST graduation ever.

Our township employees delivered over 1700 lbs of food to Denis Pantry. Local food banks rely solely on donations that are sent from our community. Karen Barnes said it best, “This is the epitome of how we are called as a society to treat one another with kindness, dignity, and respect!”

Realtor Nicole Klein partnered with a local business and went door to door picking up food donations for the Township Food Drive. They dropped quite a bounty at the CREC front door. Residents, Kate and Vinny had their baby at the height of the pandemic. Pulling up to the house they were greeted with colorful chalk art, welcome home signs and a baby flag. As Kate says, “Our street is filled with the kindest neighbors who dropped off gifts, mowed our lawn and wished us all the best. This pandemic has taught us that your home is your safe haven and being surrounded by people who care means everything.”

‫٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭‬ Natalie Shaeffer is a Nurse Practioner who works in

the COVID units. When she couldn’t find wipes, her wonderful neighbors dropped off multiple canisters so she could wipe down and feel safer coming home.

After having a baby in March at Lankenau Hospital, Edmonds Avenue resident Andrea VanBatavia crocheted and donated “ear savers” for the masks of the medical staff.

Trail News

Pennsy Trail Update

The planning for the Pennsy Trail extension is well underway. The extension will include a pedestrian bridge over Manoa Rd. The completed trail will extend from the YMCA on Eagle Road to the Llanarch Shopping Center on West Chester Pike. This trail will make Havertown more pedestrian friendly and allow children to walk safely to school and township parks. Construction will begin early next year and be completed by Fall 2021.

Darby Creek Clean-Up

Saturday, October 17 from 9am-12pm Like many residents, our trail system suffered serious damage in the summer months due to the heavy storms and they need our attention. Join Parks and Recreation on October 17 to help clean up the damage. The clean-up may include picking up trash, moving fallen limbs, and brushing up debris.

Volunteers should bring gloves and boots that can get wet and/or dirty. Tools are not neccessary. Registration is not required. We will meet at Merry Place (600 Glendale Road Havertown, PA 19083).

Invasive Removal Project

Disc Golf

This summer, over seven days, we had over 150 volunteers remove invasive plant species from our Township’s trail system. Volunteers cut vines off of trees on the Darby Creek Trail, they cared for over 150 trees at Haverford Reserve which are vital for the riparian buffer; and they removed several different types of species on the Pennsy Trail from Harvard Road to Princeton Road. We are just getting started and we need your help! We will continue our effort to fight invasive species this Fall. Without a large network of people constantly controlling these plants, they will continue to ravage our parks and trails. Get involved! Our work this Fall will include tree plantings and more invasive species removal. Check our website for exact dates, times and locations.

Thanks to the grass roots effort and a year of planning we are installing an 18-hole disc golf course at Haverford Reserve. Look for volunteer work dates posted on our website and facebook. Construction Fall 2020 - with your help!
