Safeguarding Against Ticks

After a harsh winter, people aren’t the only ones coming out in droves to enjoy the warmer weather. According to the CDC, people are more likely to acquire tick borne illnesses between May and July than any other time of the year. Here’s how to protect yourself and your loved ones: • • • • •

Spray shoes/clothing with Permethrin Wear long sleeves/pants, tuck pants into socks Spray skin with insect repellent Do daily tick checks for household members (pets too). Shower as soon as possible; check head to toe, front to back.

If you find a tick, remove the tick immediately using tweezers. Position the tweezers close to the skin and pull gently straight upwards until tick releases. Then, seal tick in ziplock bag with moist cotton ball. Clean bite site with anticeptic and see a physician for testing. (Source: PAlyme.org)
