Over 18,000 people joined in the 17th Haverford Township Day celebrating 100 years of the township’s incorporation (1912-2012). Festivities included the civic parade, 35 food vendors, 160 craft and flea market vendors, children’s rides, 30 volunteer booths, a Green Zone, live bands at 4 stages, and the burying of a time capsule at the township clock on Darby Rd.

Mission The Mission of the CREC is to create a healthier environment and healthier individuals through quality facilities, education and programs. We believe the health of our community is directly related to the quality of our air, water and open spaces as well as the food we eat, the condition of our bodies and how we think. Through the variety of programs offered we hope to create a community living room where people of different ages, means and backgrounds blend together.

Drop-IN for Fun & Fitness at the CREC

In addition to the many programs offered, you can drop in and enjoy the benefits of using the Fitness Room and Basketball courts at the CREC for any activity below during the times listed. The Drop In Pass (shown above) can be used for any activitiy on the page.

Only $5 per visit or Discount passes of 10 visits for $40 or 20 visits for $60. Fitness Room Enjoy great views of nature while working out on easy to use equipment in the friendly comfort of a home in the mountains. Times: 6am - 8pm Monday - Friday 8am - 11:30am Saturdays

Easy to use fitness equipment.

Basketball Courts Shoot around by yourself or with friends or family. Great way to stay fit, work on your game or teach your child. No full court games are permitted during these times. Times: 6am - 6pm Monday - Friday. Pickleball Learn the fastest growing game in the country, especially among those over the age of 50 who enjoy playing tennis, ping-pong or racquetball. No experience needed. Times: 9 am - 12 noon Monday and Thursday. *Times may change due to programs. Check the website for any changes to the availability.

Rental Opportunities at the CREC The gym, multi-use rooms and catering kitchen at the CREC are available for rent for your next business meeting, team session, bridal shower or other family event. Our friendly, efficient staff and affordable fees will help you host a successful event or team practice. Enjoy the comfort of geothermal heat in a beautiful green- friendly facility with the latest technology and the comforts of home. Field Trips at the CREC Beginning March 18

Your school class, church group, scout troop, business or organization can enjoy a fun field trip or outing close to home, in a clean facility located in a spectacular natural setting. Some of the amenities available to you include: A high-tech Environmental/nature lab, an outdoor classroom - a double gymnasium for a variety of games - an ExerWall for fun team building games - a catering kitchen - a multi-use room with audio visiual equipment - outdoor deck overlooking the trails and open space. In addition there are 4 miles of trails, ball fields, 124 acres of open space, 3 streams and a 12,000 sq. ft playground. There are 2 basic options to choose from: 1) You or your group rents the space(s) requested and use it to suit your educational or recreational needs. 2) We develop and lead an environmental, educational or recreational activity or program using the CREC facilities suited to your group’s age, interests and needs.

Health and Wellness at the CREC The Wellness programs offered below are intended to help you look, feel and be healthier. Our goal is to create an environment where you feel welcome and comfortable; especially those of you who have not previously participated in a wellness or fitness class. We hope you find a class that appeals to you as you begin your journey to better health.

Zumba Join the party! You’ll be working up a sweat with these calorie burning and easy to follow dance steps set to Latin rhythms and pop songs. This fun and effective workout targets your legs, abs, glutes and arms. A unique class using your own bodyweight and a barre (bar) to build a strong physique. A low-impact class that combines stretching, strength training and leg lifts while using a Ballet barre for balance. Spinning

Using top of the line spinning bikes this class offers a great way to get a vigorous workout, burn calories, and keep your muscles in shape! Cycle Fit

This 50 minute workout combines a cardio format paired with core training exercises. The cardio format includes Spinning and Boot Camp style drills. Core, back, resistance and abdominal exercises will complete this total body workout. Boot Camp

The ultimate workout designed to strengthen and tone every muscle group from head to toe, boost metabolism, and get your heart rate going. This is a total body workout. See and feel your body change! Full Moon Walk Join us as we walk under the January Full moon and learn about some of the night time happenings of the Reserve. Date: January 27 Time: 6:30-8pm (Sun) Fee: FREE

Native Fish and their Care Learn about how to care for the native fish in our nearby lakes and streams, by looking at our streams and our native fish tank at the CREC. Date: February 3 Time: 2:00-3:30pm (Sun) Fee: $5 per person or $12 per family

Succulent Dish Gardens

Grandmother Begonia Workshop After the first day of the Philadelphia Flower show come learn about this multigenerational plant and prepare your own totake home to your family. Date: March 3 Time: 2:00-3:15pm (Sun) **Must pre-register. Fee: $10 per person.

Sustainable Landscaping Join our landscape architect as we discuss the benefits of the natural meadow outside of the CREC and why you might start one at your home too! Date: March 10 Time: 2:00-3:30pm (Sun) Fee: $5 per person or $12 per family.

Birding and other Wildlife Come walk around the Haverford Reserve as we point out the birds as they are migrating back for the spring and also learn about other wildlife found on the property. Date: March 17 Time: 2:00-3:30pm (Sun) Fee: $3 per person or $10 per family.

Roots and Shoots Come join in the fun as we learn about the natural world and create a greater appreciation for the environment. Each day we will do a variety of activities ranging from engaging in live animal encounters, outdoor adventures on the beautiful trails, environmental based crafts, and learning from different nature specialists. Dates: Jan 27 -Feb 10 and Feb 24 -Mar 10 Time: 12:30-2:00pm (Sun) Fee: $45 per session Ages: K-5 grade (5-10 years old)

Prepare for the flower show by putting together your own succulent dish garden and learn how to care for them. Great program for a short afternoon family outing. DCVA Annual Meeting at the CREC Saturday, January 26th 9am-1pm Learn about the work of the Darby Creek Valley Association; volunteers dedicated to preserve and improve the Darby Creek Watershed. Earth Day Walk

Sunday, April 21 12:30-2:00pm Join us for a 3 mile walk along the Darby Creek Trail from Merry Place to Haverford Reserve. Meet at Merry Place. A bus will bring us back.

All township Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Daisies and their families are invited to a campfire hot dog cookout and hot chocolate at the Meadow campground.

Darby Creek Trail You may have noticed the improvements to the trail along Darby Creek from Merry Place to the Bus Yard near West Chester Pike. This paved, 1.2 mile accessible multi-use trail allows people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the beauty and the serenity of Darby Creek. (*All dogs must be on leash.) The improvements were funded with a $290,000 grant acquired from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.

A “Friends of Haverford Trails” group has been formed to support all trails, including those at Haverford Reserve and the Haverford Heritage Trail. Over 100 members have joined. Washington DC Potomac Champagne Cruise Come view the cherry blossoms in full bloom as you enjoy a luncheon cruise along the Potomac. After the cruise we will tour some of Washington’s landmarks, making frequent stops with the opportunity to get off the bus and see the landmarks up close. Don’t delay limited spots are left. Full Day Summer Camp

The Recreation Department offers a full day program (8am-6pm) for ages 6-12. Program begins June 24 and continues through August 9. Information on times and fees will be available on our website March 4 and registration begins March 25.

Summer Sports Camps

The Recreation Department offers summer sports camps in Lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, tennis and Cheerleading. A full list of dates, times and fees will be on our website April 1. Online registration for Sports Camps begins April 8.

Online Registration System For your convenience the Haverford Township Recreation Department has implemented online registration for all fall activities. The benefits of the new system include: -Easier online registration to save you time. -More program information. -Easy access to your family’s program schedules. -Better communication through text alerts and email.

Online registration begins Monday, January 7. You need to set up an account to register online. If you have registered since January 2012 you already have an account. If you forget your acount infomation see step 4 below.

How do I pay? Choose the activity/activities you want. Select the family member who will be participating. Finish your checkout and pay by credit card. 4. What if I forgot my account information? Go go to our website at www.haverfordtownship.com/parks Click the online registration button Click the “My Account Button” If your password is incorrect or forgotten click “forgotten” Enter your email address Your temporary password will be emailed to you.
