1. Welcome to your MBS events for 2022 We’ve been running health and wellbeing events for a few years now to develop a culture and environment that cares for your health and wellbeing. In 2020, when Covid was the only thing we were talking about and working from home was new to us all, we revisited our offering, progressed our ideas, launched Mind, Body and Soul (MBS), and made plans for our people to engage in online events. From Pilates to yoga, quizzes to a pamper evening, regular MBS text updates, ideas for keeping the kids entertained, podcasts, the list goes on, we all became used to using video to see and connect with others, whilst trying to make time for our mental wellbeing. This year, we plan to bring you some more face to face events. Some of you will remember the ladies from Cheltenham Reflexology who visited our offices and provided Indian head massages and reflexology taster sessions. Our popular annual Step Challenge evolved last year with the introduction of an exciting new app, GoJoe, which encouraged teams to log their distance rather than steps. Not only did it include the walkers, but also the swimmers, cyclists and runners. It really was great to see the competition between teams and comradery. If you’d like to find out more about this year’s events, please read on. Best wishes Your MBS Team

Nutrition and Mental Health Adam Lloyd TUESDAY 21 JUNE https://www.adamlloydwellbeing.com/new-page
A student of Nutrition since 2012 and a registered Nutritional Therapist (mBANT), Adam is also a registered practitioner with the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council). He is currently studying a Masters (MSc) in Nutritional Therapy at the University of Worcester. Increasingly we are becoming aware of how our state of mind is affected by what we eat.
Food can affect us acutely, in a short period of time after eating, or chronically, over longer periods of time. As what we eat is one of the daily actions that is within our control, if we struggle with mental health issues, then nutrition can be a very positive tool to help ourselves out of what can be a downward mental spiral. In this talk, nutritionist Adam Lloyd will outline firstly the mechanisms at play that allow food to influence our mood and state of mental health and secondly how we can make simple changes to daily eating patterns that may help to support our mental health. Finally, he will discuss practical ideas that may support you in making nutritional changes. In this modern age we are becoming increasingly aware that single solutions are not the answer; instead we need all aspects of life to support our health, from exercise, sleep, stress and nutrition. Adam will outline the nutrition aspect of this web of health. Register your interest here and receive a free goodie bag when you come to your chosen event(s).

3. Wellbeing week 20-24 June Reflexology/Indian head massage
Jo and Ainsley WEDNESDAY 22 JUNE
https://reflexologyandmassage.co.uk/
Reflexology has been around for thousands of years. The treatment begins with massage and then different nerves on the feet are pressed by the therapist’s thumbs and fingers. There are over 7,000 nerves in the feet and these link to different parts of the body. The aim of reflexology is to aid the body to work at its best and a reflexologist will stimulate or sedate different nerve areas to achieve this. This therapy is relaxing and a really good stress-reducer, helping to alleviate many conditions, including stress, hormone and digestive-related concerns.
Indian Head Massage is usually provided in a seated position. You can either have the massage fully clothed or remove your top and wrap a towel around your upper body. Massage is provided on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, face and upper arms. Lower arms and hands can also be included if you wish. Indian Head Massage is great for people who suffer from neck and shoulder tension and headaches. We will be offering 20 minute treatment tasters between 11.30-14.20 to 14 employees, on a first come, first served basis. Register your interest here and receive a free goodie bag when you come to your chosen event(s).
The benefits of drawing are wide ranging, from reduced cortisol through to better focus, coordination and improved memory.

5. Parent wellbeing For working parents, finding support and information on how to manage and improve your family’s wellness is often an area of your life you may not have time to address. We have teamed up with The Conversation Stamford, who are a not-for-profit organisation and have been running workshops for children and young people in schools and colleges over the past decade.
Gemma and Sarah Jane The Conversation Stamford
www.theconversationstamford.co.uk
Gemma and Sarah Jane are now providing support for parents through a digital package of videos, looking at four key lifestyle areas to support you and your family in managing your lives. ■
Maintaining your child’s mental health and emotional wellbeing
■
Maintaining your child’s mental health and emotional wellbeing – the teenage years
■
Building foundations for healthy relationships
■
Parenting amidst anxiety
Each talk lasts approximately an hour, but is split up into 20-minute sections, making the information more manageable and digestible. Each section provides enough content for reflection and discussion. You can, of course, view all three parts on the one topic in one go.
We will be launching their videos the week commencing 18 July – look out for our MBS updates nearer the time.

6. GoJoe Fitness Challenge 27June-15 July It’s back again this year – can we get up to 100 of you interested? Start thinking about forming your teams (max of 6 people per team. Earn points for your team based on your kms. Whichever team gets the most points, wins! And we’ll be raising money for Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre along the way.
Fitness Challenge
Last year, GoJoe helped launch our ‘Beat the Bike Challenge’ which, after months of lockdown, was great fun getting out again and bonding with our colleagues, whilst raising much needed money for our charity of the year, Severn Freewheelers. We saw 69 of us form 13 teams, with some very apt names – 'We’re Wheelie Tyre’d', 'Braking Bad' and 'All the gear, no idea' to name just a few. With the help of the GoJoe fitness app, each team was encouraged to walk, run, cycle or swim, with the amount of kilometres travelled converted into points.

9. Aviva Digicare+ Workplace You have access to a series of health and wellbeing benefits through Aviva DigiCare+Workplace, helping you stay healthy, spot any potential problems early and get help when needed. If you're undecided whether to download the app, this is what Angela Pyzer, Scanning and Administration Assistant, said: "I signed up for the Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace app and sent for the free ‘Annual Health Check’ kit. The ‘kit’ arrived about a 10 days later and had everything you needed to do a small pinprick blood sample. The kit comprised swabs to clean the area, pin prick needles, 2 x vials and the plastic envelope to return (all free). I waited about 7/8 weeks and received a detailed report today. I am amazed at how detailed the Aviva blood test results are!!! They have given me the exact figures for all sorts of things i.e., Diabetic risk, Cholesterol levels, Bone Health, Kidney Heath, Liver health. It explains how and what each part/organ needs to be healthy, what helps these organs work at their best capacity etc. It then offers you the choice of speaking with their own GP (free of charge) to go through all the findings from your blood sample, and what they all mean, and also, more importantly, advice on changes, should they be needed. I am really grateful to have had the chance to get a full blood analysis for free! Many thanks to you all for arranging this benefit."
More details are under the HR Benefits section or just contact human.resources@hazlewoods.co.uk with your query and we’ll get back to you.
