Welcome to a New Season Welcome to the Hazlitt Theatre’s new Summer Season. The season just gone saw the Hazlitt Theatre deliver a wide breadth of work from Sooty to Lee Nelson and The Little Mix Experience to Danny Baker are but a few of the examples. Moving forward we have a fantastic summer season coming up, so make sure you get along and enjoy some of the many productions available for your entertainment. This season we welcome some brand new theatre in the guise of Ginger is the New Black, a musical comedy that was a sell out hit at Edinburgh. For the family audience wanting something fresh and unique, we will be hosting Faultline Theatre Company and their version of The Three Musketeers. And what about a little nostalgia? Well we have that as well when Sincerely Yours plays The Hazlitt celebrating the 100th birthday of Vera Lynn. This is the season in the year that the Hazlitt becomes a bit of a hub for it’s community with plenty of the local and magnificent dance schools deliver their annual productions, but also the season that the Hazlitt Youth Theatre opens its doors
to the younger generation and offers week long workshops based on The Twits and Wicked for 6 - 18yr olds. If you are looking for a laugh, we have that in abundance. Russell Kane, Joel Dommett, Jethro and Andy Parsons all take to the stage. What will also prove to be a good night is An Evening With Martin Kemp. The musician, actor and now judge will open up and talk about himself and his life, but will also give the opportunity for the audience to pose their own questions. And for all those music lovers we have some great acts, bands and tributes in ranging from Whitney to The Quo Experience. However if your taste is a little more classical, why not come and see The Opera Boys? I hope that you enjoy the brochure, pick out some shows and we look forward to welcoming you to the Hazlitt Theatre in the summer. Regards Martin Cleverley General Manager
The Hazlitt Theatre is operated by Parkwood Theatres working in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council.

Danny Baker The stage has always been my first love. Let me put that another way. I have never done anything like this before in my life. No two nights of this extravaganza will be the same. This is less of a boast than admission that a) I am hopeless at learning scripts and b) I still have no idea what I am going to include. A night at the theatre can either be deep dish or high kicking. What I promise to haul before you is very much in the latter category. Content wise I will make Springsteen and Dodd look like short changing slackers. I can’t wait. This is the sort of radio I’ve always wanted to do, ie, radio without radio. Just me and you. In fact, if you don’t show up I’m going to do it in your local theatre anyway. So you may as well come. Why should the ushers have all the fun? So, in short, roll up, pile in and hang onto your hats. I am back where I belong. On the stage! Shove over Tommy Steele – there’s a new sheriff in town!

HYT Play-in-a Week
The Twits 6 - 10 year olds
This Roald Dahl classic tells the story of a hideous, vindictive, spiteful couple known as the Twits. They continuously play practical jokes on each other out of hatred for one another. They also keep a family of pet monkeys, the Muggle-Wumps. The Twits, who are retired circus trainers, are trying to form the first upside-down monkey circus, leaving the monkeys to stand on their heads for hours on end. If they fail to do what Mr. Twit says, Mrs. Twit beats them with her cane. Mr. Twit also coats tree limbs with a strong sticky glue in hopes of catching birds for Mrs. Twit to make into a bird pie. The monkeys try to warn the birds, but since the monkeys speak in an African language, the English birds cannot understand them, so the poor birds end up boiling in Mrs. Twit’s pie. One week, the Roly-Poly bird flies in from Africa to visit the monkeys, and acting as an interpreter of languages, keeps the birds from sitting anywhere Mr. Twit has spread glue. Mr. Twit tries several times to catch the birds, spreading the glue on an increasing number of perches, but the Roly-poly bird changes his warning to reflect the new traps. Come and be a part of this experience and see what happens to the Monkeys, the birds and of course The Twits.

Written and performed by Jack Lane Additional material by Martyn Bell Music and direction by Kenny Clayton In this acclaimed emotional roller coaster one-man play, Jack Lane takes you behind Norman Wisdom’s wellknown character to reveal a tough and lonely childhood. After joining the Army he discovers a passion for comedy and begins to perfect an act that would go on to shape his unique style. The world of post-war Music Hall and Variety embraces Norman’s manic slapstick routine, catapulting him to stardom in the early 1950s. Success on the silver screen including the hit song, ‘Don’t Laugh at Me’, seals his fame. But fame comes at a price... Jack plays 30 characters throughout this tour de force performance. The Gump costume that features in the show belonged to Norman himself and has been generously loaned to the production by his son and daughter, Nicholas and Jacqueline Wisdom.
