What’s on january - april 2020

BOX OFFICE: 01622 758611

Welcome to a New Season Welcome to the Hazlitt Theatre’s new Spring Season. We hope that you all enjoyed or are enjoying a fantastic festive time and are ready for a great year ahead. What could help make it a great year………? A trip to see one of the many brilliant productions here at the Hazlitt Theatre. January to April are the months that will be making up our Spring Season and they are packed with a huge variety of performances so there should be something for everyone. However the year kicks off with a performance that is definitely for our older ones when we see The Market Theatre Company return to offer another very funny, but very naughty pantomime Peter Panties. For our theatre lovers amongst you we have a version of ‘Jane Eyre’ being played out in January for two nights and ‘Jeeves and Wooster’ in March in the main house. In the studio, amongst other performances, you can see episodes of the radio series ‘The Navy Lark’ brought to life. We have comedy in abundance this Spring. You’ll need a deep breath to read this list out in one go so big breath in and………….. Stephen K Amos, Roy Chubby Brown, Joel Dommett, Simon Brodkin, Mark Steel, Matt Parker, Geoff Norcott, Matt Richardson, Lou Sanders, Lucy Porter and Andrew Laurence.

For those that want something a little different ‘Tassels Burlesque Evening’ returns in January, Forbidden Nights are with us, we have a Chinese New Year show & Ben Hart is in the building to wow us all. Music fanatics will not be disappointed as there is plenty of choice. We have The Bon Jovi Experience through to Jersey Beats, The Opera boys through to California Dreamin’ and we also welcome the fabulous Hermans Hermits. And for the younger ones and families there will be production’s of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Pop Divas’, ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and ‘Sooty’ in the Main House. The Studio will host performances of ‘Kaleidoscope’ which is an immersive show aimed at babies and parents and the Studio will continue to cater for the very little ones when ‘Baby Ballet’ takes place every Friday morning. Mix this all with a visit from ‘Michael Portillo’ and an afternoon of the ‘Doris Day Story’ I would argue that from young to old, whether it's watching a performance or being in one, the Hazlitt Spring Season certainly does have something for everyone! Martin Cleverley General Manager

The Hazlitt Theatre is operated by Parkwood Theatres working in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council.

Sir Geoff Hurst It’s just him and Terry Baker from A1 Sporting Speakers onstage. It’s been universally well received by almost everyone that has seen it so far. It’s mainly a football show with lots of lighthearted moments but some serious ones as well. He says ‘ mostly we have a laugh but I do a q&a in the second half and I do treat serious questions with whatever degree of gravitas they deserve. ‘

It is the early 1970s, and police officer Ron Stallworth becomes the first African-American detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department, but his arrival is greeted with scepticism and open hostility by his new colleagues. Undaunted, Stallworth resolves to make a name for himself by infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan. WOMAN AT WAR (Kona fer í stríð)

Halla is a fifty-year-old independent woman. But behind the scenes of her quiet routine, she leads a double life as a passionate environmental activist. Known to others only by her alias "The Woman of the Mountain," Halla secretly wages a one-woman-war on the local aluminium industry. An artful fable that examines what it really means to save the world, Benedikt Erlingsson's "Woman at War" is the rarest of things: a crowd-pleaser about climate change.

Voted Film of the Year by some critics, and with great performances by its two leads, Leave No Trace encapsulates everything that's good about the current indie film scene.
