Welcome to a New Season Welcome to the Hazlitt Theatre’s new Summer Season. We hope that you have all enjoyed a great start to the year and looking forward to the warmer months coming and combining those longer nights with a trip to The Hazlitt Theatre.

And for the younger ones there will be a stunning production with The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dear Zoo, Ministry of Science, Disgusting Songs for Revolting Children and a Right Royal Drawalong in the Main House. In the Studio we have performances of The

The beginning of the year saw the completion of the works in the Exchange Studio with the arrival of out new £35,000 seating unit. The seating unit has complimented the work that has been carried out over the last couple of years with the redecoration of the bar, the new drapes and flats and the relocation and build of the technical box. We also have a busy programme of events in the studio including comedy, theatre, family and dance.

Flying Bath & The Ugly Duckling.. For those that want to go on stage the Youth Theatre Department will be opening the doors in August for its annual Summer Festival with events for children aged 6 - 18 throughout the week commencing 5th August.

For our comedy lovers amongst you we are pleased to be welcoming such acts as the very popular Angela Barnes, Jim Tavare, Andrew Maxwell, Andrew Laurence and Simon Brodkin amongst others. And talking of comedy, the Hazlitt Theatre will be continuing hosting its monthly ‘Live Nation Comedy Nights’ where several top acts can be seen in just one night. Music fanatics will be pleased to see we have The Opera Boys coming back, Lee Mead is in the building and Marty Wilde is making an appearance. We complement this selection with some great Tribute Acts by way of Sound of Springsteen, Simon and Garfunkel Story, The Stones and Jackson Live.

And for those that need that good old fashioned hit of theatre, we have new performances titled Flux and Orphan in the Exchange Studio and The Main House will host a return from The Market Theatre Company, that gave us the very popular adult pantomime in January, when they return with their latest offering A Roman Romp!. From young to old, whether it’s watching a performance or being in one, the Hazlitt Summer Season certainly does have something for everyone! Martin Cleverley General Manager

Jim Tavare:

Bedpan to Deadpan Directed by Henry Normal, In 2018 Jim returned to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time in 20 years with his first narrative show, ‘From Deadpan To Bedpan’. He tells the story of how a quick trip to the shops changed his life forever. The show is a heart-warming and seriously funny tale of survival against the odds, strange forebodings, unbelievably massive American medical bills, and a dog called Mr Kippy. To much acclaim, this show won ‘Spirit of the Fringe Award’ at the Edinburgh Fringe 2018.

Bye Bye Baby Celebrating Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

Bye Bye Baby is more than your average tribute band. The Stones

The Flying Bath

When everyone has left the house in the morning, the bath toys spring into action and head off on exciting adventures in their magical flying bath! Presented by Stage Theatre Society Stage Theatre Society are back this Summer with the classic musical, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’. Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one familyfriendly blockbuster that audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious”. An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa. This amateur production is produced by kind arrangement with MTI Europe which has been adapted for the Stage by Jeremy Sams. Musical In A Week A musical about teens in love in the 50’s! It’s California 1959 and greaser Danny Zuko and Australian Sandy Olsson are in love. They spend time at the beach, and when they go back to school, what neither of them knows is that they both now attend Rydell High. Danny’s the leader of the T-Birds, a group of black leather jacket-wearing greasers while Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo. When they clash at Rydell’s first pep rally, Danny isn’t the same Danny from the beach. They try to be like each other so they can be together. In order to ensure our booking fees are transparent please note the following information;

The Hazlitt Theatre is committed to make the venue as accessible and enjoyable an experience for all patrons as possible.

A booking fee of £1/£1.50 will be charged on each ticket, this fee directly supports the running costs of the Hazlitt Theatre. Ticket revenue is divided between many different parties and an increase in ticket prices may not necessarily benefit the theatre. By adding a small booking charge we ensure that every penny goes to supporting your theatre and ticket prices are kept to a minimum.

Disabled Access All our venues are wheelchair accessible. Guide dogs are most welcome. There are parking bays for people with disabilities sited adjacent to the venue. We also have lift access to all of our venues located in Rose Yard.

We are happy to post your tickets out to you for £1 or you can choose to collect them from the box office. In Person Hazlitt Theatre, Earl Street Maidstone, Kent, ME14 1PL, Monday – Saturday from 10am – 4pm. (Box Office opens 1 hour prior to each performance in the Hazlitt Theatre and 30mins for performances in the Exchange Studio).

Adapted toilet facilities are also available. The Hazlitt Theatre and Exchange Studio both have an infra red sound enhancement system for use with or without a hearing aid. Please ask a member of the Front of House who will be happy to ensure that you have access to this.
