DANNY BAKER

The stage has always been my first love. Let me put that another way. I have never done anything like this before in my life. No two nights of this extravaganza will be the same. This is less of a boast than admission that a) I am hopeless at learning scripts and b) I still have no idea what I am going to include. A night at the theatre can either be deep dish or high kicking. What I promise to haul before you is very much in the latter category. Content wise I will make Springsteen and Dodd look like short changing slackers. I can’t wait. This is the sort of radio I’ve always wanted to do, ie, radio without radio. Just me and you. In fact, if you don’t show up I’m going to do it in your local theatre anyway. So you may as well come. Why should the ushers have all the fun?

TICKETS: £21.50. CONCESSIONS: £19.50

RAMS

Before Iceland became famous as a footballing nation, it produced this gentle witty tale of two brothers who farm prize-winning sheep and who haven’t spoken to one another in years. When a crisis looms they have a life-changing decision to make. Includes probably the best performance by a sheepdog in any film, ever.

MARGUERITE

In 1920s Paris, socialite Marguerite Dumont dreams of singing at the opera. The catch is, she really can’t sing. Spurred on by her wealthy husband, who mysteriously misses all her recitals, she engages a voice coach and makes her plans. There are parallels with the recent Florence Foster Jenkins but with superb performances, Marguerite succeeds in its own terms.

LEGEND OF BARNEY THOMSON

Barney Thomson is a hapless Glasgow barber who finds his life spiralling out of control after a fatal accident at work leads to him becoming the chief suspect in a serial killer case. Ray Winstone is the Glasgow policeman on his trail. This comedy noir marks Robert Carlyle’s directorial debut and there’s a great role for Emma Thompson as Barney’s leopard-print wearing, foul-mouthed mother.
