President’s Message
Matt Kinning, HBAL President
On October 6, HBAL members had the opportunity to hear a presentation by the Planning Department on the 2050 Comprehensive Plan. The plan recognizes housing as a system and the need for housing affordability at all levels. This, along with the plan's commitment to continue looking at changes to the zoning code to allow for more missing middle housing, are a positive for our industry. The plan also includes contiguous growth of the city and gravity sewers for new construction. The plan was approved by the Planning Commission on October 27. If you’d like to review it, you can find it here. If you have comments, please reach out to me or Michaela at HBAL. November has several great educational opportunities for HBAL members. November 9 is Basic DOT 101. This lunch and learn opportunity will provide construction contractors with answers to some basic questions regarding Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Because many of the DOT rules apply to commercial over-the-road truckers, this class will help navigate those rules and how they apply to our industry. And if you want to learn more about HBAL and find ways you can become involved, I urge you to attend our HBAL 101 class on November 16. Lastly, I’d like to thank Andrea Wilkins for her service to HBAL for the last 5 ½ years. We wish her the best of luck as she pursues another career opportunity. She always greeted everyone with a smile and was willing to do what she could to help the Association and its members. Her last day is October 29. Tuesday, November 16 • 11:30 a.m.
• How do I know what regulations apply to my business? I usually only drive a pickup for my construction business. Is there a difference when I am driving my personal pickup for work compared to the company pickup truck? • Do I need a DOT number? • What is a DOT inspection? • What do I need if I get stopped by an officer and they want to do an inspection? • Who needs a CDL? (commercial drivers license) It is a common misconception that only drivers of large trucks and semis need CDL’s, when in reality it is possible that certain pickup and trailer combinations may require the drivers to have CDL’s. • How do I license my pickup and trailers for the correct amount of weight? • Do I need an annual inspection on my trailer or just my truck?
Cost: FREE, lunch is provided

Associate Directors Megan Dreyer, CS Kitchen & Bath Studio
Megan grew up in Lexington, NE and went on to attend the University of NebraskaLincoln to pursue a degree in Textiles, Clothing and Design. Upon graduation she was given an opportunity by the talented Connie Strohmyer to start a career in kitchen and bath design, and soon found this was truly where her passions lay. Megan has been with CS Kitchen and Bath for 15 years as a designer/remodeler. She thoroughly enjoys the team approach that remodeling allows, and finds the creative process of walking a client through a project from concept to completion to be the most rewarding part of her day. Megan has been active in HBAL, serving on the HBAL Board of Directors and Foundation
Board. She also previously served as the chairperson for the Remodelers Council in 2016. Outside of HBAL, she has given time as a member of the University of Nebraska Chancellor's Advisory Council, CEHS Alumni Board and served on various committees within her church. Megan is married to Lincoln Public School’s best 3rd grade teacher, Lee, and they have two active boys; Miles(12) and Maxwell(9). When time allows, Megan enjoys watching her boys play ball, running, and getting to the mountains to ski as often as possible.
