DEP and County question erosion project Yvonne C. Harper and Sandi Kemp HBTSNews During the Nov. 13 Holley by the Sea Board of Directors meeting, members and residents discussed concerns about the Erosion Control Committee’s work on 40 acres of HBTS-owned land located behind and beside the recreation facility. The shoreline and land suffered extensive damage during the heavy rainfall in April. The committee was created to determine the scope of work necessary to repair the damaged areas previously worked on and modified by Roads, Inc. In August, the HBTS Board appointed Endell Stevens, Laurie Gallup and Melinda Robertson to the Erosion Control Committee. However, board and association members have questioned committee members as well as work that has already been completed. Board Secretary Rebecca Ward opened her report with a prepared statement that read in part, “The approved minutes for August 2014 stated Laurie Gallup and Melinda Robertson were appointed to the Erosion Com-

to the board members on Sunday, Oct. 12, for erosion repair with the vote transpiring on Tuesday, Oct. 14,” Ward read.“Brown’s Hauling was selected as the lowest bid of $48,500 … At numerous board meetings due diligence was requested with copies of permits, licenses, etc.” Board President Alex Crawford said nothing was amiss when Stevens and a representative from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection spoke with her.

“We are not here to shut you down,”Crawford said of her conversation with the FLDEP representative. “A lot of rumors … wait before we get our knickers in a twist.” On Nov. 7, DEP representatives Scott Casey and Leona Lewis visited Holley by the Sea and advised Stevens that it looked like to them that the pipe being installing was disturbing wetlands. At that time, Stevens said he would stop all work on the project,
