Ese maridaje perfecto entre lo deportivo y selecto, gracias a esa fusión de lo social, gastronómico y comercial, con esas tiendas que tantas tardes recorrían las sotograndinas durante el mes de agosto, se labró un espacio internacional en el polo y en decenas de miles de personas desfilando por las canchas durante el Torneo Internacional.

Preservar el buen polo no está reñido con un formato social y de éxito. Sotogrande forma parte de esa sociedad erudita del polo, que lo entiende y disfruta, pero que también sabe reconocerse en todo lo que lo rodea. Cuidar también esa esencia, esa sociedad del polo, también es cuidar el legado de Sotogrande.

Polo, both the sport and the entire universe and socio-economic context around it, are part of the most intimate personality and the most visible DNA of Sotogrande since the beginnings of the resort. A luxury residential space created around very iconic places such as the beach club, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and of course, with all the plaudits, the much remembered and legendary pitch on the beach.

Rueda la bocha, vuelve la magia del polo a Sotogrande. Arranca una nueva temporada por todo lo alto, con la gestión y organización de Ayala Polo Club, con un calendario deportivo con más de 100 días del mejor polo en Sotogrande. Un total de 10 torneos de más alto nivel, en el que por supuesto, como plato estrella del verano, se encuentra el Torneo Internacional de Sotogrande que contará con varias de máximas estrellas de este deporte y algunas de las organizaciones internacionales más destacadas del mundo del polo.

Todo listo en Sotogrande para que comience la emoción del polo.

De todos los platos del menú, lógicamente, destaca como principal y estrella el 53º Torneo Internacional de Verano, que en esta edición de 2024 mantiene su estatus de 20-22 goles para el Alto Hándicap, y que según anunció Ayala y Minuto 7, cuenta con la presencia asegurada de hasta seis equipos del más alto nivel y varios de los equipos más importantes del mundo.

A new season is getting underway in greatstyle,withthemanagementandorganisation of Ayala Polo Club, with a sporting calendar of over 100 days of the best polo in Sotogrande. A total of 10 tournaments of the highest level, where of course, the star dish of the summer is the Sotogrande International Tournament which will have several of the top stars in this sport and some of the most prominent international organisations from the

world of polo. Everything is ready in Sotogrande for the excitement of polo to begin.

Of all the dishes on the menu, logically, as the main dish and star, the 53rd International Summer Tournament stands out, at the 2024 edition it has maintained its 20-22 goal status for the High Handicap category, and according to Ayala and Minuto 7, it has guaranteed the presence of six teams of the highest level and several of the world’s most important teams.

Una de las principales novedades para este curso en el TIV llega con la ampliación de su calendario, que pasa ocupar de cinco a seis semanas, con inicio el 22 de julio, con la Copa de Bronce [la final está prevista para el 27 de julio] y finalización el 31 de agosto, con la celebración de la Gran Final de la Copa de Oro. Entre medias, la celebración de la Copa de Plata cuya final se emplaza para el 17 de agosto.

Para el Torneo Internacional de Verano, la propia organización confirmó hasta seis equipos de Alto, otros seis de Mediano y un total de 8 para el Bajo Hándicap, aunque esta cifra podría crecer antes del inicio del torneo. En cuanto a nombres propios, ya están confirmadas organizaciones tan importantes como: Dubai [ganador de la Copa de Oro en 2022 y 2023 con los Hermanos Castagnola en sus filas durante ambas campañas], MB Polo [finalista de Oro 2023], Sainte Mesme [todo un clásico en Sotogrande y ganador en 2023 de la Copa 25 Aniversario El Periódico de Sotogrande], Amanara o Jolly Rogers, grandes protagonistas del Mediano y Bajo, entre muchos otros.

Y por supuesto, los protagonistas y nombres propios. Sotogrande disfrutará en directo de los cuatro jugadores ganadores del Abierto Argentino 2023 con La Natividad: ‘Jeta’ y Barto Castagnola, Facu Pieres y Pablo Mac Donough, aunque en Sotogrande rivalizarán con equipos diferentes. A este selecto elenco hay que sumar también grandes estrellas como los finalistas con la Dolfina: Juan Martín Nero y Poroto Cambiaso, además de otros grandes nombres de este deporte como Nico Pieres o Fran Elizalde; entre otras grandes estrellas de este deporte.

Todo ello, como siempre, con asistencia gratis a las diferentes sedes e instalaciones, el espacio principal estará un año más en la zona de Los Pinos, además de una gran oferta gastronómica, comercial y de ocio para enriquecer un nuevo verano de polo en Sotogrande. También se deslizó, aún sin confirmación absoluta, el planteamiento de un gran partido de exhibición entre dos combinados de Argentina y España, actual y vigente Campeón del Mundo de Polo.

One of the main new developments for the international tournament (TIV) this year comes withtheextensionofitscalendar,goingfromfiveto six weeks, starting on 22 July, with the Bronze Cup (the final is planned for 27 July) and ending on 31 August, with the celebration of the Grand Finale of the Gold Cup. In between, there is the celebration of the Silver Cup whose final is planned for 17 August.

For the International Summer Tournament, the organisation confirmed six High handicap teams, another six Medium teams and a total of 8 for the Low Handicap, although this figure could increase before the start of the tournament. Sotogrande will enjoy the four winning players of the 2023 Argentine Open live with La Natividad: ‘Jeta’ and Barto Castagnola, Facu Pieres and Pablo Mac Donough, although in Sotogrande they will compete with different teams. In addition to this select cast there are also major stars such as the finalists with La Dolfina: Juan Martín Nero and Poroto Cambiaso, in addition to other big names from this sport such as Nico Pieres and Fran Elizalde; among other major stars of this sport.

A partir del 20 de junio, uno de los grandes platos de la temporada, el Open de España [6-8 y 10-12 goles]; mientras que a partir del 4 de julio, última cita antes del torneo de verano, se celebrarán el Memorial Prado y Colón de Carvajal [6-8 goles] y el Memorial Fundador Enrique Zobel [10-12 goles].

Tras el Torneo Internacional de Verano, momento para el broche final con la Copa San Enrique de Guadiaro [6-8goles]parael5deseptiembreylaCopaDespedida [6-8 goles], el 12 de septiembre. Ya rueda la bocha y no descansa el polo en Sotogrande.

And what happens before, during, and after summer? Well, polo and more polo. The season is getting underway on 28 May with the celebration of Ke Sotogrande Welcome Cup (6-8 goals), which will be followed from 6 June by the Joseph McMicking Cup (6-8 goals). On 20 June, there is one of the major events of the season, the Spanish Open (6-8 and 1012 goals); while on 4 July, the last event before the summer tournament, the Prado y Colón de Carvajal Memorial (6-8 goals) and the Enrique Zobel Founder Memorial (10-12 goals) will take place.

After the International Summer Tournament, it is time for the finishing touch with the San Enrique de Guadiaro Cup (6-8 goals) for 5 September and the Farewell Cup (6-8 goals), on 12 September. The ball is rolling and polo doesn’t stop to rest in Sotogrande.

Descubrimos un poco más sobre Santi Cernadas y su viajeatravésdelmundodelpolo.

We learned a little more about Santi Cernadas and his journey through the world of polo.

Un placer contar con todo un amigo de la casa y gran polista, Santi. Para que te conozcan un poco más nuestros lectores, explícanos tus inicios. ¿Cómo nace esta afición por el mundo del polo y de los caballos? HáblanosdeGeneralBelgranoyesosprimerostaqueos.

Todo nace, como es obvio, a través de la familia. Mi abuelo tenia campo y cada hijo se quedó con una parte; ahí teníamos una cachita donde jugábamos y lo pasábamos genial: mi hermano, mi padre, mi tío ,mis primos y yo. Ahí arrancó todo; también teníamos una cría de caballos y vivíamos allí; por lo que nuestros días, felizmente, se centraban en potrillos, polo, caballos nuevos y todo relacionado con el mundo de los caballos y el polo. Eso y ayudado a que mi madre también era una gran aficionada al polo y todo el mundo ecuestre, se hizo casi inevitable que me convirtiera en un apasionado.

¿En qué momento te das cuenta que puedes dar el paso a ser profesional y buscar un hueco entre las principales organizaciones del mundo del polo?

A los 10 años nos fuimos a vivir a Buenos Aires, cambio de colegioyvaríatodoenmivida,depasarhorasyhorasenel campo ahora todo pasó a ser ciudad. Si un fin de semana estaba malo el tiempo o de lluvia, hasta siguiente no íbamos al campo y todo ese rato alejado de los caballos y el polo se me hizo muy complicado. En esos años pude jugar poco, pero ya, a partir de los 16/17 años, fui entrando más en juego, practicaba más y eso, ayudado a que siempre fui un gran aficionado al polo, tomé la decisión de internarlo. Nada más acabar los estudios me lancé a trabajar y jugar, estuvo un año en Chicago [Estados Unidos] y a la siguiente temporada me llegó la ocasión de acudir a Sotogrande con Gabriel Iglesias. En esa época ya jugué muchos torneos y afortunadamente, el inicio de un viaje que hoy continúa.

¿Cómo fueron tus primeras experiencias en el polo profesional?

Como te expliqué, las primeras vivencias fueron en Chicago y poco después en Sotogrande, fuimos con Corchito Zabaleta, Manu Carranza , Gabriel Iglesias y ahí jugamos muchísimo , calculo que tendría 19 años la primera vez que vine a Sotogrande. Impresionante, todo estaba genial, creo que el primer partido lo jugamos en en la cancha 2 de los Pinos, entonces no estaba todo tan desarrollado como hoy y ya me causó un impacto extraordinario. Es increíble lo que tiene Sotogrande.

Para ti, el Open de Francia tiene un cierto simbolismo y sabes lo que es ganar. ¿Cómo fueron esas temporadas en Deauville, St. Tropez o Chantilly?

Así es. Mi primera oportunidad de jugar en Francia fue de la mano, una vez más, de Corchito Zabaleta que me llevó a jugar con Robert [Strom] y bueno, jugamos muy bien y tuvimos la suerte de ganar ese año el Open de Francia, una victoria de gran mérito. Y luego, he tenido la oportunidad también de jugar mucho con Alejandro [Aznar, del equipo Marqués de Riscal], él es muy fanático de las temporadas en Francia y la verdad que siempre lo pasamos genial. También tuvimos la suerte de poder ganar la Copa de Oro, con Alejandro. que fue un gran logro. Por lo que en general, sí se podría decir que se me da bastante bien Francia y hemos podido sumar victorias importantes.

¿Y tu relación con Sotogrande? Es mucho más que un torneo para ti y además también un vínculo a nivel personal tremendo.

It is a pleasure to be with a real friend of ours and a great polo player, Santi. In order for our readers to get to know you a little better, explain your beginnings to us. How did this passion for the world of polo and horses begin/ Tell us about General Belgrano and those first hits of the ball.

Obviously, everything started through my family. My grandfather had a pitch and each child was left a part; there we had a part where we would play and have a great time: my brother, my father, my uncle, my cousins and me. Everything started there; we also had a horse breeding stable and we lived there; therefore our days were happily focused on foals, polo, new horses and everything linked to the world of horses and polo. That, and helped by the fact that my mother was also a great devotee of polo and the entire equestrian world, made it almost inevitable I would become a devotee.

At what point did you realise that you could take the step up to become a professional and find a place for yourself among the world’s main polo organisations?

At the age of 10, we went to live in Buenos Aires, I changed school and everything changed in my life, from spending hours and hours in the countryside, now

everything was in the city. If there was bad weather or rain at the weekend, we wouldn’t go to the country until the next one and all that time away from horses and polo was very difficult for me. I was unable to play much during those years, but then, from the age of 16/17, I got into playing more, I practiced more and that, helped by the fact I was always a great polo fan, I took the decision to commit. As soon as I finished studies, I started working and playing, I spent a year in Chicago (United States) and the following season I got the chance to go to Sotogrande with Gabriel Iglesias. At that time, I had already played lots of tournaments and fortunately, it was the start of a journey that continues today.

What were your first experiences in professional polo like?

As I explained, the initial experiences were in Chicago, and shortly afterwards in Sotogrande, we went with Corchito Zabaleta, Manu Carranza, Gabriel Iglesias and we played so much there, I reckon I was 19 the first time I came to Sotogrande. Impressive, everything was great, I think we played the first match on pitch 2 at Los Pinos, back then not everything was as developed as today and that had an extraordinary impact on me. It is incredible what Sotogrande has.

de polo más importantes del mundo. Estoy convencido de que tiene un polo de primera, las canchas son de primera, ojalá se jugara al polo 8 meses al año porque es impresionante. Sé que se está trabajando mucho por tratar de hacer una temporada más larga y competitiva, no siempre es sencillo, pero lo que se consigue en el mes de agosto es espectacular. Además, a nivel personal, también significa mucho para mí, mi esposa es de allá, mis hijos nacieron en esa zona y tengo mucha familia en Sotogrande y toda la Comarca; cada vez que tenemos oportunidad de escaparnos y pasar unos días, es nuestro lugar elegido. Ojalá en un futuro podamos pasar más tiempo durante el año.

¿Quésignificaparatiyparaelmundodelpolounlugar como Sotogrande?

Lo conocí de muy joven, le tengo mucho aprecio y para mí, en cuanto a polo, es el mejor lugar del mundo para jugar en verano. Hay pocos destinos con canchas a ese nivel y el polo es impresionante, ojalá pudiera pasar más tiempo. A todo el público le gusta el polo, es aficionado y entiende, algo que no se da tampoco en muchos sitios, además de ser un sitio espectacular. Es la combinación de muchos factores. También equipos y organizaciones de primer nivel que vienen de todos los puntos del mapa a jugar, sin duda, es un lugar especial, para mí lo es tanto a nivel polístico como personal. Además, se vive estupendamente, Andalucía es un lugar increíble, con una energía única, un clima envidiable, lo tiene todo.

También sabes lo que es tocar la gloria en Sotogrande, de la mano de Marqués de Riscal. Con un equipo muy consolidado, junto a la Familia Aznar y Guillermo ‘Sapo’ Caset habéis competido bien durante varias temporadas.

¡Claro!. Con Alejandro Aznar y el equipo de Marqués de Riscal llevamos varios años jugando esa temporada. Hemos tenido la suerte de salir campeones en la Copa del Rey [disputada en Madrid], ganar en Deauville, el Open de Francia, la Copa de Oro de Sotogrande y la verdad es que Alejandro es un patrón con el que estamos muy contentos, tiene una gran organización y muy feliz de estar vinculado. Ahora también estamos apostando muy fuerte por la temporada en Inglaterra, estamos centrados en este momento de la temporada y buscando mejor resultados. Tenemos las expectativas muy altas y veremos qué podemos conseguir.

El año pasado, también tuviste presencia y protagonismo, en el Abierto. ¿Cómo se presenta la Triple Corona Argentina en este 2024?

Tenemos bastantes expectativas de poder clasificar, equipo es bueno y si la organización nos ayuda un poco a nivel de club, canchas y demás podemos conseguir el objetivo de jugar el Abierto Argentino de Polo esta temporada.

For you, the French Open has a certain symbolism and you know what it is like to win. What were those seasons in Deauville, St. Tropez and Chantilly like? Indeed. Once again, my first chance to play in France was alongside Corchito Zabaleta who took me to play with Robert (Strom) and well, we played really week and that year we were lucky to win the French Open, a victory of great merit. And then, I also had the chance to play a lot with Alejandro (Aznar, from the Marqués de Riscal team), he is a real fan of the seasons in France and honestly we always had a great time. We were also lucky to be able to win the Gold Cup, with Alejandro, which was a great achievement. Therefore, in general, it could be said that I do quite well in France and we have been able to earn important victories.

And your relationship with Sotogrande? It is much more than a tournament for you and also an amazing link on a personal level.

An extraordinary relationship, I always loved it, I always enjoyed it; I think that it is one of the world’s most important polo destinations. I am convinced that it has first class polo, the pitches are first class, I wish polo was played 8 months a year there because it is impressive. I know that there is a lot of work to create a longer and

more competitive season, it isn’t always easy, but what they achieve in August is spectacular. Also, on a personal level, it also means a lot for me, my wife is from there, my children were born in that area and I have a lot of family in Sotogrande and the entire province; each time we have the chance to get away for a few days, it is our chosen place. I hope we can spend more time there during the year.

What does a place like Sotogrande mean for you and the world of polo?

I discovered it when I was really young, I really love it and for me, in terms of polo, it is the best place in the world for playing in summer. There are few destinations with pitches on that level and the polo is impressive, I wish I could spend more time there. Everyone likes polo, they are fans and understand, which is something you don’t find in many places, and it is also a spectacular place. It is the combination of many factors. Also teams and first-rate organisations that come from all over to play, undoubtedly it is a special place, for me it is on both a polo and personal level. Also, life is fantastic, Andalusia is an incredible place, with a unique energy, an enviable climate, it has everything.

¿Qué sueño te queda por cumplir como jugador?

Muchos y que siga así. La verdad que un objetivo seria lograr un titulo en Inglaterra, para eso estamos trabajando, es el gran propósito lograr un triunfo en la temporada de UK que es muy difícil, muy competitiva y con grandes organizaciones y jugadores. Poro otro lado, también continuar compitiendo en el Abierto Argentino, es la mejor competición del mundo y siempre es un objetivo aunque se venden muy caras esas plazas.

¿Qué le gusta hacer o cómo se divierte Santi Cernadas cuando baja del caballo?

Me gustan todos los deportes. Por eso también me encanta Sotogrande, puedes practicar tenis, golf, fútbol, polo, vela, casi cualquier cosa que se te ocurre. No hay un día en el que puedas hacer algo divertido. Entre el polo, la afición a los deportes y dos pequeños que también me sacan bastante tiempo, no me queda margen para mucho más [bromea]. Si acaso, también pasar rato con la familia y amigos o salir a comer algo, tranquilo, también me gusta mucho.

You also know what it is like to taste glory in Sotogrande, alongside Marqués de Riscal. With a very well-established team, alongside the Aznar family and Guillermo ‘Sapo’ Caset, you competed very well for several seasons.

Of course! With Alejandro Aznar and the Marqués de Riscal team we played that season for several seasons. We were lucky to emerge as champions at the King’s Cup (held in Madrid), to win at Deauville, the French Open, the Gold Cup in Sotogrande and honestly Alejandro is a patron that we are very happy with, he has a great organisation and I am very happy to be linked to it. Now, we are also committing very strongly to the season in England, we are focused on this moment of the season and seeking better results. We have very high expectations and we will see what we can achieve.

Last year, you also had a presence and starring role at the Open. How is the Argentine Triple Crown looking in 2024?

This year we are going to compete in Argentina with La Ensenada. It is a new team and the organisation and facilities are fantastic. We have quite a lot of expectations of qualifying, the team is good and if the organisation helps us a little at a club level, pitches and otherwise, we can achieve the objective of playing the Argentine Polo Open this season.

What dreams do you have left to fulfil as a player?

Many and long may that continue. Honestly, one objective would be to achieve a title in England, we are working for that, the big goal is to achieve a triumph in the UK which is very difficult, very competitive, and with great organisations and players. On the other hand, I also want to continue to compete at the Argentine Open, it is the best competition in the world and it is also an aim although those places come at a very high price.

What do you like to do or how does Santi Cernadas have fun when he gets off his horse?

I like all sports. That is why I also love Sotogrande, you can do tennis, golf, football, polo, sailing, almost anything you can think of. There isn’t a day where you can’t do something fun. Between polo, a passion for sports and two small children who also take quite a lot of my time, I don’t have room for much more (joking). If anything, I also like to spend time with family and friends and go out for something to eat, relaxed, I also really like that.

Una XXXIX edición muy especial y difícil de olvidar por dos motivos muy diferentes, por un lado, la excelsa victoria del equipo Mackage, capitaneado y liderado por Lidia Gauss que se convertía en la segunda mujer en la historia de la competición en conquistar el máximo galardón. La otra efeméride del torneo fue que la jornada dominical, con los partidos decisivos y finales de la contienda, se tuviera que resolver por penales al no contar con la seguridad pertinente, más de 40 centímetros de profundidad en el hielo, que permitiera una óptima competición a cuatro chukkers, como es común. La decisión de Reto Gaudenzi fue bien acogida para preservar la seguridad tanto de polistas como de caballos; en este caso, cada jugador recibió la oportunidad de convertir cuatro penales: dos desde las 30 yardas y otros dos desde las 50 yardas.

A very special XXXIX edition and hard to forget for two very different reasons, on one hand, the exquisite victory of the Mackage team, captained and led by Lidia Gauss who become the second woman in the history of the competition to win the top award. The other special date of the tournament was on Sunday, with the decisive matches and finals of the contest, it had to be decided on penalties as it did not have the relevant safety, ice that was over 40 centimetres deep, that would enable an optimum competition over four chukkers, as usual.

The decision by Reto Gaudenzi was warmly welcomed in order to preserve the safety of both the polo players and horses; in this case, each player received the chance to hit four penalties: two from 30 yards and another two from 50 yards.

Mientras que el sábado, Perrier-Jouët conquistó la Kandahar Cup, The Kusnach Practices se impuso en la Wami Cup y por último, Mackage, gran triunfador del fin de semana, levantó la St. Moritz Cup.

With regard to the sporting competition, the first day had the victories of Mackage over Perrier-Jouët (3-2); St. Moritz over Flexjet (5-4) and The Kusnach Practices over World Polo League (5-3). Meanwhile, on Saturday, Perrier-Jouët won the Kandahar Cup, The Kusnach Practices conquered in the Wami Cup and lastly, Mackage, the big winner of the weekend, lifted the St. Moritz Cup.

On the decisive day, the Casablanca Cup went to the World Polo League; the Mackage Cup was settled in favour of St. Moritz and in the big event of the tournament, The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz by World Polo League, the Mackage team won (10-9) against The Kusnach Practice to take the top prize.

La celebración de la edición 2024 del Royal Salute Polo Challenge, el pasado mes de abril en Welligton (Florida, USA), congregó a buena parte de la más alta esencia vinculada al mundo del polo, a favor y apoyo del trabajo que la asociación Sentebale realiza la asociación con niños y jóvenes en Lesoto y Botswana. The desire and awareness of charity to support the causes most in need, another of the great driving forces of polo, one of the world’s most exclusive sports. The celebration of the 2024 edition of the Royal Salute Polo Challenge, in April in Wellington (Florida, USA) brought together a large part of the greatest essence linked to the world of polo, in aid of and supporting the work that the association Sentebale carries out with children and young people in Lesoto and Botswana. Con un ambiente espectacular, la cancha 1 de Palermo acogió la Gran Final del 130° Abierto Argentino de Polo HSBC, máximo certamen mundial de interclubes en el que participaron 10 equipos de entre 28 y 40 goles de handicap conformados por los jugadores más importantes del mundo, entre ellos los 7 polistas que ostentan los 10 goles de hándicaps.

En la gran final, La Natividad con un estupendo partido de Pablo Mac Donough y un juego colectivo muy aceitado, venció por 13-10 a La Dolfina Saudi, equipo en el que se destacó Poroto Cambiaso; y se quedó con el trofeo. Impresionante temporada del Jeta Castagnola, quien en la final convirtió 4 tantos que lo catapultaron como goleador del Abierto (38). Además, fue el máximo artillero de Hurlingham (28) y de Tortugas (28), por lo cual, con 94 goles anotados se erigió como el máximo goleador de la Triple Corona 2023.

La Natividad logró su segundo título en tres finales disputadas (ganó en 2021 y 23 y cayó en 22), al igual que los hermanos Jeta y Barto Castagnola. Pablo Mac Donough consiguió su 12do. trofeo en Palermo en su 16ta. final disputada y Facu Pieres se consagró por cuarta vez en su definición N° 14, logrando el título luego de 11 años de su última conquista, conseguida con Ellerstina en 2012.

In the grand finale, La Natividad with a fantastic match by Pablo Mac Donough and very successful collective play, won 13-10 against La Dolfina Saudi, a team in which Poroto Cambiaso stood out; and took home the trophy. It has been an impressive season from Jeta Castagnola, who scored 4 goals in the final to make him the top scorer at the Open (38). He was also the top scorer at Hurlingham (28) and Tortugas (28), therefore, with 94 goals scored he emerged as the top scorer of the 2023 Triple Crown.

La Natividad achieved their second title from three finals played (they won in 2021 and 23 and were defeated in 22),

just like the siblings Jeta and Barto Castagnola. Pablo Mac Donough achieved his 12th trophy in Palermo in his 16th final and Facu Pieres was crowned champion for the fourth time in his 14th final, achieving the title 11 years after his first victory, achieved with Ellerstina in 2012.

Un partido muy disputado aunque siempre contó con el liderazgo de La Natividad con un Camilo Castagnola -goleador de la final (9), del torneo (28) y hasta ahora de la Triple Corona 2023 (56)- imparable ante los mimbres rivales, pero cometiendo muchas faltas en defensa, por lo cual La Hache siempre estuvo cerca en el tablero. En el séptimo parcial el equipo verdiblanco rompió el partido, sacó 5 goles de ventaja y terminó llevándose la victoria y el título con justicia.

A very closely-fought match although it was always led by La Natividad with Camilo Castagnola -top scorer in the final (9), of the tournament (28) and thus far in the 2023 Triple Crown (56)- unstoppable in front of the opponent’s goal, but commiting lots of fouls in defence, which meant that La Hache was always very close on the scoreboard. In the seventh partial, the green and white team broke open the match, took a 5-goal lead and ended up fairly taking victory and the title.

In a great final, La Dolfina Saudi won 18-13 against La Hache P. T., and was thus crowned winner of the 130th Open at Hurlingham Club Bless. La Dolfina side was like a machine! In the first three chukkers they gained a large advantage through the good play of David Stirling on the eastern side, very well accompanied by Juanma Nero -a wall at the back-, with Adolfito controlling the team and Poroto very effective taking fouls, achieving an almost deadly 9-1 for the hopes of La Hache, a team that didn’t have a single move come off in this first 21 minutes of play. Nor could they score through dead ball situations, a statistic where they finished 6/9 on penalties and 0/5 on corners.

As a matter of fact, with LD really leading on the scoreboard, the character of LH stood out, at no point did they concede defeat in the match and ended up just 3 goals behind in the last partial, which finished with two goals by Poroto, the top scorer on the day, to hand his side victory for the second consecutive year.

El invicto El Overo Z7 UAE venció nuevamente a La Dolfina –hasta ahora bicampeón defensor del torneo– por 17 a 14 y se adjudicó el VII° Abierto Argentino de Polo Femenino presentado por Cremas Caviahue, en unpartidodisputadoenlacancha2del Campo Argentino de Polo en Palermo.

En un partidazo, en el que se convirtieron 31 goles –la mayor cantidad de tantos en una final del Abierto Femenino– se consagró El Overo, merced al buen juego de Hazel Jackson y de Millie Hine, muy bien acompañadas por Hope Arellano e Izzy Parsons.

Uno de los rostros más populares en la actualidad, a nivel mediático, y una auténtica artista polifacética. ¿Cómo nace esta pasión por el espectáculo y la interpretación? ¿Siempre quisiste dedicarte a ello?

Realmente no sé cuándo nació, no tiene un principio como tal o una fecha marcada. Creo que siempre lo he tenido claro y de alguna manera, siempre estuvo presente. Desde pequeña sabía que me apasionaba jugar a ser actriz y empecé a formarme desde el inicio para ello.

Desde muy joven has participado en algunas de las series más influyentes de la televisión como: Hospital Central, Cuéntame, Física o Química, Tierra de Lobos, El Secreto de Puente Viejo,…¿Cómo es trabajar en un formato de éxito?

Bueno, yo creo que el éxito ahora mismo es poder tener oportunidades y poder trabajar de lo que me gusta. Los proyectos son proyectos. Que sean un éxito o no, especialmente, ya no depende de nuestro trabajo. Me siento muy afortunada de poder levantarme cada día e ir a trabajar.

Esta primavera está siendo todo un éxito el estreno de “Muertos S.L.” en la plataforma Movistar Plus+. Un “ The Office” español y un formato más que atractivo en la actualidad. ¿Qué tal la experiencia y el ‘feedback’ de crítica y público. Muertos es un proyecto extraordinario, una apuesta increíble. Desde los decorados, todo el equipo, la idea, los guiones, el staff, son geniales. En mi caso, como gran fan de la serie “The office”, cuando me contaron Laura y Alberto Caballero cómo querían rodarla me enamoré del proyecto al instante. No se había hecho nada así aquí hasta el momento y estoy muy feliz de formar parte de esta serie. Al público le ha encantado la primera temporada, estoy deseando que vean la segunda.

One of the most popular faces of the moment, in the media, and a truly multifaceted artist. How did this passion for performance and acting emerge? Did you always want to do it?

I don’t really know when it emerged, there is no start date as such or a set date. I think that in some way I have always been clear about it, it has always been present. From a young age I knew that I loved pretending to be an actress and I began training from the outset to do so.

“For me, success is being able to devote myself to what I like”

From a very early age you participated in some of the most influential series on television such as: Hospital Central, Cuéntame, Física o Química, Tierra de Lobos, El Secreto de Puente Viejo,…What is it like to work on a successful format?

Well, I think that right now success is being able to have opportunities and being able to work at what I like. Projects are projects. Whether they are a success or not, in particular, no longer depends on our work. I feel very lucky to be able to get up each day and go to work.

This spring, the release of “Muertos S.L.” on the Movistar Plus+ platform has been a real success. A Spanish version of “ The Office” and a very appealing format at present. ‘Políticamente incorrectos’ me dió una oportunidad enorme como actriz

También cuentas con una trayectoria en la gran pantalla. ¿Qué tal tu última experiencia como protagonista con “Políticamente incorrectos”? ‘Políticamenteincorrectos’medióunaoportunidad enorme como actriz. Hacer este tipo de comedia y jugar con ese hilo tan fino y tan bien dirigida por Arantxa Echevarría fue un lujo. Nunca imaginé llegar a hacer algo tan bonito como esta película. Lo disfruté muchísimo tanto el personaje como el viaje que hicimos todo en equipo.

¿Tenemos en la actualidad una sociedad ‘totalmente correcta’?

Desgraciadamente aún tenemos una sociedad muy injusta, racista, machista, homófoba …

Todo ello lo compaginas con teatro y más que notables colaboraciones en televisión y programas de máxima audiencia como: “La Resistencia” o “Ilustres Ignorantes” entre otros. ¿Te ves presentando un programa de televisión? Nunca he presentado un programa. Me encantan los retos y poder hacer de todo. Soy feliz mezclando ficción y entretenimiento. Creo que es bueno hacer de todo y tener experiencias de todo tipo.

No podemos obviar la parcela digital y cerca de 300.000 seguidores en Redes Sociales. ¿Cómo manejas tu faceta de ‘influencer’?

Es un trabajo más, una herramienta más para nuestra profesión. Además, sirve de ventana para poder estar cerca de la gente que ve nuestro trabajo. Me gusta mostrarme por redes tal y como soy aunque a veces no le puedo dedicar mucho tiempo.

¿Te interesa la moda? ¿Te ves formando parte de ese mundo?

Creo que cuando me levanto agarro lo primero que pillo del armario y me voy a trabajar. Paso más tiempo vestida de personaje que con mi ropa. Pero me gusta adaptar la moda a mí y a cómo me siento en ese momento.

I never imagined doing something as beautiful as this film. I really enjoyed it so much, both the character and the journey that the entire team went on.

I have never presented a programme. I love challenges and being able to do everything. I am happy mixing drama and entertainment. I think it is good to do everything and have all kinds of experiences.

We cannot forget about the digital aspect and how you have almost 300,000 followers on Social Media. How do you handle your “influencer” side?

It is another job, another tool for our profession. Also, it serves as a window to get closer to the people who see our work. I like to show myself on networks the way that I am although sometimes I cannot devote much time to it.

Un reto y un desafío que te queda por cumplir. Todos los retos y desafíos posibles. Siempre tengo la sensación de que acabo de empezar…, siempre empezamos de cero.

¿Cómo es Adriana Torrebejano cuando se apagan los focos? ¿Cómo te gusta divertirte o disfrutar de tu tiempo con amigos y familia?

Soy una persona de lo más normal. Soy feliz cuando estoy con mis amigos de toda la vida, mi familia, cuando estoy con mi pareja, cuando me siento en casa, cuando voy al cine…, no hay grandes secretos.

Once challenge you have yet to fulfil. All possible challenges. I always have the feeling that I have just got started...we always begin from scratch.

What is Adriana Torrebejano like when the spotlights are off? How do you like to have fun or enjoy your time with friends and family. I am a very normal person. I am happy when I am with my lifelong friends, my family, when I am with my partner, when I feel at home, when I go to the cinema...there are no big secrets.

Fue en mayo de 2023 cuando Marqués de Riscal presentaba XR Rosé, su nuevo rosado elaborado con viñas de más de 50 años de Garnachas y Viuras de Elciego.

It was in May 2023 that Marqués de Riscal released XR Rosé, their new rosé made from 50-plus-year-old Elciego Garnacha and Viura vines.

Siempre, de una manera u otra, ha formado parte de mi vida. Como si estuviera predestinado a ello y no pudiera ser de otro modo, un talento y una pasión en forma de transmisión sanguínea que acaba por convertirse en afición y luego en devoción.

Como no podía ser de otro modo, en casa con papá [el emblemático Tito Gómez], se respiraba polo y caballos a todas horas del día. De pequeño, no despertó en mí, especialmente, una gran atracción el polo, estaba muy volcado con mis amigos y pandilla en otros deportes como fútbol o tenis en aquella infancia en Barcelona. Pero de alguna manera, siem pre estuvo ahí; montaba a caballo y taqueaba, jugaba torneos infantiles, casi como una distracción o premonición hereditaria. No fue hasta los 15 años, más o menos, que cambiamos de residencia a Santo Estêvâo [muy cerca de Lisboa], cuando comencé a tomarme más en serio el polo. Vivíamos en el campo y pude dedicarle más atención y perseverancia, ahí me di cuenta que podía hacer algo más encima de un caballo, con un taco en la mano. Esas raíces familiares, junto con el desembarco en Sotogrande, supusieron un cambio para siempre en mi vida y mi profesión. Mi debut en Sotogrande fue en el año 1999, con genial equipo de Casa Taff, no perdimos ni un solo partido en todo el Torneo Internacional. Fue increíble aquella experiencia, junto a un jovencísimo Pelón Stirling, que sólo contaba 2 goles; John Neri y Diego White. Recuerdo aquellos años con mucha alegría, todo estaba menos diversificado y nos reuníamos cada tarde en las canchas de San Enrique, lo que ahora es Ayala Polo Club. Estaba la ‘escuelita’ y disfrutábamos de cada práctica y cada hora de polo. En esa época venían muchos patrones y jugadores de todo el norte de Europa a hacer sus caballos. Una época dorada para esa juventud y despertar polístico. Éramos una buena pandilla: Pelayo, Tuky, Juanito Gavira, Pelón, …, años fantásticos. Antes de los 18 ya pude jugar en el norte de Inglaterra y poco más tarde, de la mano de Lolo Castagnola, también me estrené en la gran temporada británica con Queen’s y Gold Cup. Le debo muchas cosas al polo, pero para mí, la gran fortuna y el valor de haber vinculado mi vida a este maravilloso deporte fue conocer a enormes personas y descubrir lugares increíbles. He podido conocer destinos impresionantes como Dubai (más de 10 años), Nigeria, Pakistán, Tailandia, Marruecos, Francia o Alemania, entre muchos otros. El polo me ha hecho abrir la mente, conocer personas fantásticas y lugares de ensueño. Sin duda, ésa es una gran enseñanza y riqueza. Pero de todos, Sotogrande tiene algo especial, algo mágico. Sotogrande reúne cosas que ningún otro destino similar tiene: ambiente familiar, el clima, el lugar, las canchas, la gastronomía, etc. Todo eso lo convierte en un referente internacional. Además, a nivel deportivo, en estos momentos combina de manera predominante dos alternativas geniales, como son la temporada de Ayala Polo Club o Iridike Polo, por nombrar estos dos. Son increíbles ya que permiten a patrones y polistas poder competir según el momento y nivel en el que estén. La realidad es que en Iridike Polo se están haciendo las cosas muy bien. Permite esa iniciación y desarrollo a nivel competitivo en el Bajo, y que patrones, jugadores y organizaciones vayan creciendo y mejorando su nivel. Un paso necesario hasta conseguir, por qué no, dar el salto a otras competiciones de Mediano o Alto HCP, como las que promueve fantásticamente Ayala. Precisamente, ese buen trabajo que se hace en Iridike ayuda a fomentar esa cultura del polo y hacer crecer el destino. Y eso tiene enormes consecuencias positivas para el entorno. Potenciar Sotogrande como destino polo impulsa un enorme el impacto económico para toda la zona (trabajadores, transportistas, polistas locales, petiseros, agentes inmobiliarios, veterinarios, etc.); es un gran motor. Por eso, el polo es un gran valor diferencial. Otra de las grandes suertes que he tenido en mi carrera es la de participar con la selección española de polo. Ganar consecutivamente un Campeonato del Mundo y uno de Europa (en el que participé y además me dieron el MVP), es el resultado de que se están haciendo las cosas muy bien. Estamos disfrutando de una gran generación de polistas españoles como Tonete Ayesa [gran amigo de mi infancia en Barcelona y que está haciendo un gran trabajo con los jóvenes], Pelayo, Nico Álvarez, Castelví, Lleo o Luisito Domecq, entre otros muchos, además de Robertito Iturrioz, que viene pisando muy fuerte. Estos buenos resultados no son casualidad, son fruto del gran trabajo que se hace con la cantera y desde la federación.

It has always been a part of my life, in one way or another. As if I were predestined for it, and it could not be otherwise, talent and passion passed down through my bloodline that ends up becoming a hobby and then a commitment.

As you would expect, at home with Dad (the iconic Tito Gómez), polo and horses were in the air at all times of the day. As a young child, no great attraction towards polo was especially awakened in me, I was really devoted to my friends and little group in other sports such as football and tennis during my childhood in Barcelona. But in some way, it was always there; I rode horses and hit, I played in tournaments for children, almost as a distraction or a hereditary premonition. It wasn’t until the age of 15, more or less, that we changed home to Santo Estêvâo (very close to Lisbon), when I began to take polo more seriously. We lived in the countryside and I was able to devote more attention and perseverance, then I realised that I could do something more on a horse, with a mallet in my hand. Those family roots, along with the arrival in Sotogrande, marked a change forever in my life and my profession.

My debut in Sotogrande was in 1999, with the amazing team of Casa Taff, we didn’t lose a single match during the entire International Tournament. That experience was incredible, alongside a very young Pelón Stirling, who only had 2 handicap goals; John Neri and Diego White. I remember those years with a lot of joy, everything was less diversified and we met every afternoon at the pitches of San Enrique, which is now Ayala Polo Club. There was the “little school” and we enjoyed every practice session and every hour of polo. During that era, a lot of patrons and players came from all over northern Europe to work with their horses. A golden era for those young people and polo awakening. We had a good group: Pelayo, Tuky, Juanito Gavira, Pelón, …, fantastic years.

Before the age of 18, I was able to play in northern England and a little later, alongside Lolo Castagnola, I also made my debut in the great British season with Queens and the Gold Cup. I owe many things to polo, but for me, the great luck and value of having associated my life with this wonderful sport was getting to meet amazing people and discover incredible places. I have been able to discover stunning destinations such as Dubai (more than 10 years), Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Morocco, France and Germany, along with many others. Polo made me open up my mind, meet fantastic people and discover dream places. Undoubtedly, that it a great lesson and source of richness. But of them all, Sotogrande has something special, something magical. Sotogrande brings together things that no other similar destination has: family atmosphere, climate, place, pitches, gastronomy, etc. All of that makes it an international benchmark. Also, at a sporting level, at the moment it combines two amazing alternatives in a dominant way, the season of Ayala Polo Club and Iridike Polo, to name these two. They are incredible as they enable patrons and polo players to be able to compete according to the form and level they are at.

The reality is that Iridike Polo is doing things very well. It enables that introduction and development at a competitive level in the Low category, and for patrons, players, and organisations to grow and improve their level. A necessary step to manage, why not, to make the jump to other Medium or High HCP competitions, such as those that Ayala fantastically promotes. Indeed, that good work that Iridike does helps to promote that culture of polo and to make the destination grow. And that has enormous positive consequences for the area. Promoting Sotogrande as polo destination encourages an enormous economic impact for the entire area (staff, carriers, local polo players, horse workers, property agents, vets, etc.); it is a great driving force. Therefore, polo is a great differential value.

Another of the great pieces of luck I have had in my career is participating with the Spanish polo team. Winning a World Championship and a European Championship (in which I participated and was also awarded MVP) consecutively, is the result of doing things very well. We are enjoying a great generation of Spanish polo players such as Tonete Ayesa [a great friend from my childhood in Barcelona who is doing a great job with the youngsters], Pelayo, Nico Álvarez, Castelví, Lleo and Luisito Domecq., among many others, as well as Robertito Iturrioz, who is in great form. These good results are not a coincidence, they are the result of the great work that is done with the youth players and through the federation.

Probé otras opciones de vida, pero siempre acabé volviendo al polo y ahí seguiré por mucho más. Dar las gracias a todas las personas que me han ayudado en mi carrera, especialmente a mis padres por inculcarme el amor por este deporte, y sólo espero, por pedir, tener la oportunidad de compartirlo y disfrutarlo también con mi hijo y mi hija. As a result of all this and much more, I am grateful to have this platform after over 25 years riding horses and hitting the ball. I tried other options in life, but I always ended up returning to polo and I will remain there for many more I want to thank everyone who has helped me in my career, especially my parents for instilling the love for this sport, and I only hope, ask, to have the chance to also share it and enjoy it with my son and daughter.
