No es elemento extraño ver celebraciones dentro de la Comunidad de Sotogrande, así como en todo el Valle del Guadiaro, acontecimientos y eventos de un perfil solidario y benéfico. Más bien, se podría tachar de práctica habitual, estando dentro del propio ADN de la zona su colaboración y apoyo en las diferentes causas que se proponen. Precisamente, destaca que durante este mes de agosto (aunque es necesario repetir que no es novedad) se están llevando a cabo un extenso y amplio número de actividades y citas relacionadas con la labor solidaria y en beneficio de diferentes causas. Por muchas circunstancias, Sotogran-

It is not surprising to see celebrations in the Community of Sotogrande, as well as throughout the Valle de Guadiaro, gatherings and events, that are for charitable causes. Rather, you could say that collaboration and support for diﬀerent proposed causes are standard practices within the area, a part of its DNA. Indeed, during the entire month of August (although it needs to be reiterated that this is nothing new) an extensive and wide ranging number of activities and events related to charity work are taking place for diﬀerent causes. For various reasons, Sotogrande is an ideal place for this type of activity. However,

that does not mean we should have any less amount of praise for how the community shows its support any time there is a chance to contribute to a charitable cause. Bazar de la India, Montenegral, Nepal, and the Riding Therapy Centre…. anytime someone requires collaboration, Sotogrande turns out to help. Especially during this period, when there are many visitors passing through the resort, it is good to make them aware of the charitable nature that this area beneﬁts from. On the other hand, we are experiencing one of the best summer periods that can be remembered in recent years. You simply need to go out to the street to see what the bars, terraces, beaches, clubs

and walkways are like. It is real spectacle to see how Sotogrande is dazzling this summer. There is no doubt that this is the consequence of work that has been well-planned and managed in good time and the appropriate manner. The positive course of action taken by institutions and business owners is one that should be continued. All of this in a month, August, that is now heading into its ﬁnal stretch. However, this is not the time to lower our guard, the complete opposite in fact. It is time to really pull out all of the stops, and add a quality ﬁnishing touch to a summer in which everything has been more cohesive, working together as a complete whole.

Sotogrande en estado puro aunque un poco caro los servicios Ocupación al máximo y aspecto impecable, son entre otros los adjetivos utilizados con frecuencia en semanas pasadas para enarbolar la bandera del optimismo en lo que se refiere a la masiva oleada de visitantes en este agosto, que supera con creces a los anteriores vivi1 José Luis García dos a la sombra de la Editor/Director crisis. jlgarcia@grupohcp.com Efectivamente no cabe la menor duda que estamos en armonía con el crecimiento que se vive y se palpa, como decíamos la pasada quincena, pero hay que ser mas prudentes y cautos en la prestación de servicios. Los precios que se están aplicando

en la restauración son verdaderamente exagerados en su mayoría, cafés con tostadas a cinco euros, cañas de cervezas a cuatro y cinco euros, sin querer entrar en los costes de platos, que están llegando a indignar a muchos consumidores. Y esto no es solo el problema, la economía crece y se nota, pero los servicios no se equiparan, siendo eternas las esperas en las mesas y barras. Y si para colmo has tenido dificultad en aparcar el vehículo, ponte en lo peor, porque en el parabrisas puedes tener una sorpresa llamada denuncia por dejarlo en zona prohibida. Y esto sucede porque nuestra zona no esta preparada en infraestructuras para soportar una afluencia como la que vivimos en estos días. Confiamos que aun estén a tiempo de corregir en la medida de lo posible, no podemos pasar por ser uno de los lugares mas caros por mucha selectividad que esto nos otorgue, porque para ser elitista primero es indudablemente la prestación del servicio, y este como he manifestado, en ocasiones deja mucho que desear. El “hacer el agosto” nos puede traer consecuencias contrarias, cuidemos del turismo, ya sea ocasional o

residencial, al fin y al cabo son nuestra principal fuente de ingreso. Y no será por el amplio programa de actividades que estamos viviendo, porque la verdad es que nunca antes gozamos de tantas oportunidades de diversión y lugares a los que ir, esto es de agradecer a las entidades, Sotogrande, S.A. y al Santa María Polo Club, especialmente, que lideran la oferta de ocio, sin olvidar a los propios empresarios de hostelería y restauración que no reparan en activar sus terrazas y locales con animación y espectáculos de toda índole. Esperemos que a la hora de hacer balance allá por septiembre tengamos unos números muy halagüeños, pero sobre todo tengamos la sensación de que hemos satisfechos tanto a visitantes como los residentes habituales con el mejor servicio posible y una excelente sonrisa. Sean bienvenidos y disfruten del mejor verano en Sotogrande. Es hora de descansar y gozar de momentos inolvidables. This, as I have stated on numerous occasions often leaves a lot to be desired. “Doing August” can have negative consequences, we should look after tourism; whether occasional or residential, at the end of the day tourist are our main source of income. Problems will not arise from the wide ranging schedule of activities that we are seeing, because the truth is that we have never enjoyed so many

opportunities to have fun or different places to go to. We should especially thank Sotogrande S.A. and Santa María Polo Club, who lead the range of leisure sector, without also forgetting about hotels and restaurants who breathe life into their terraces and premises with all types of activities and shows. We hope that when it comes to drawing up a balance in September, we have very pleasing numbers, but especially that we can feel satisfied for visitors as well as habitual residents, offering the best possible service and an excellent smile. You are welcome and we hope you enjoy the best summer in Sotogrande. It is time to relax and enjoy unforgettable moments. Los más pequeños conocen la importancia del reciclaje con ‘Playa Limpia’ en Sotogrande y Torreguadiaro

La Fundación Prosegur, con la campaña ‘Playa Limpia’, transmitió a los más pequeños en la playa de Sotogrande la importancia de reciclar y reutilizar las basuras para cuidar el litoral. Las actividades de ‘Playa Limpia’ se realizan de 12 a 14 horas y de 17:30 a 19:30 horas, y en este proyecto se desarrollan cuentacuentos con la mascota, el Cangrejo Cornelio, además de realizarse gymkanas y actividades con el ﬁn de concienciar especialmente a los más pequeños sobre la necesidad de

mantener limpias las playas, con el reciclaje y reutilización de las basuras. El teniente de alcalde del Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, agradeció la labor que realizan los monitores de la Fundación Prosegur, “unos profesionales que también colaboran en la difusión de unos valores tan importantes, y que a la vez hacen más agradable la estancia de los veraneantes y turistas en Sotogrande” comentó. ‘Playa Limpia’ está organizada por la Fundación Pro-

segur y cuenta con la colaboración del Consistorio. Con ‘Playa Limpia’ se conciencia sobre el reciclaje a los pequeños de una manera divertida e interactiva para que los niños aprenden disfrutando en un entorno singular, como es el litoral en verano.

There are also gymkhanas and activities aimed at raising awareness among young children about the need to keep beaches clean with recycling and by reusing waste. El Club de Playa El Octógono acoge un verano más el tradiconal ‘Bazar de la India’

El Club de Playa El Octógono, en Sotogrande, se convirtió un verano más en escenario para el VIII Bazar solidario de la Fundación Ciudad de la Esperanza y Alegría. El conocido como ‘Bazar de la India’ reunió un verano más a multitud de asistentes y asiduos en Sotogrande para colaborar con la obra benéfica de la fundación, ligada al compromiso con las personas más desfavorecidas, a través de la educación como herramienta de desarrollo. En esta edición se volvieron a superar los registros en partici-

pación, colaboradores y asistencia de público, que un año más se volcó con esta cita ya tradicional cada verano en Sotogrande. “Un año más está lleno de gente, es un orgullo que cada verano la propia gente se interese y pregunte qué día va a ser el mercadillo”, explica Maria Moreno, presidenta de la Fundación. Este año, cerca de 25 puestos mostraron una amplia oferta con diferentes piezas, desde prendas de ropa a complementos, bisutería, accesorios, complementos y originales objetos manufacturados inspirados en la India. A roaring success at the Esperanza and Alegría Foundation’s Eighth Charitable Bazaar For yet another summer the Club de Playa El Octógono, in Sotogrande, was the setting for the Ciudad de la Esperanza and Alegría Foundation’s Eighth Charitable Bazaar. The ‘Indian Bazaar’ once again brought together a multitude of visitors in Sotogrande to collaborate with the foundation’s charitable work, which is committed to those in most need through the use of education as a developmental tool. This edition of the event once again set new records in terms of turnout, collaboration and as-

sistance from the public, who for another year lent their support to what is now a traditional Sotogrande summer gathering. “For yet another year it is packed with people, it’s a great source of pride that people show their interest each summer and ask what day the market will be held”, explained Maria Moreno, the president of the Foundation. This year, close to 25 stalls displayed a wide range of different items, from articles of clothing to jewellery, accessories and original objects inspired by India. In

addition to that there was a generous prize raffle. “The Sotogrande community is extremely charitable and always answers our call. Thanks to this event we are able to run an orphanage with 150 children open for a whole year practically. All the funds raised go towards projects like this. I’d like to thank the many volunteers who collaborated with us for all their work”, notes Moreno. “It should be noted that our foundation is audited by the Fundación Lealtad, which is a seal of approval”, she adds.

Soto Cats Rescue continúa con su labor en beneﬁcio de las colonias felinas en la zona

La asociación Soto Cats Rescue da un paso más en su labor, desinteresada, para el cuidado y control de las colonias de gatos que habitan en Sotogrande. Desde hace algunos meses, este colectivo de nuevo cuño lleva a cabo un ejercicio de control, cuidado, alimentación y esterilización de las comunidades felinas que se encuentran en la zona. En ediciones anteriores, ya se informó de la puesta en marcha para la adaptación de dos zonas habilitadas para comederos, tanto en La Marina de Sotogrande como en el área de Almenara. Contando en ambos casos con la colaboración de las entidades administradoras. El último paso se centró en la limpieza y adaptación de una nueva zona por parte de Soto Cats Rescue. Se trata de la parte colindante con Supercor. Los voluntarios realizaron tres jornadas de limpieza y preparación del enclave, precisamente uno de los más necesitados de con-

Valderrama Golf Club was the setting, a luxury place and one of the icons of Sotogrande and Spain. This traditional event included a cocktail before the meal, and the atmosphere was livened up with ﬂamenco music. After

the meal, there was a raﬄe for products with the aim of increasing the amount of money raised by the event. This classic summer event brings together well-known faces from Sotogrande every year and they do not hesitate to make their contribution in order to collaborate with the Montenegral Association.

Seguridad Vial Como ya venimos comunicando ya han concluido los trabajos de asfaltado y pintado de la señalización horizontal de los viales de la urbanización. Queremos insistir en la importancia de respetar la señalización y los límites de velocidad de la urbanización. En estas fechas la ocupación de la urbanización es máxima y la existencia de transeúntes, bicicletas y deportistas se hacen más presentes, por lo que los vehículos deben de extremar las precauciones en la conducción.

Ne Solano muestra este verano en Sotogrande sus ‘Detalles de viajes’. Una interesante exposición fotográfica abierta al público de manera gratuita en el Restaurante Midas en la que el autor muestra multitud de escenas captadas por su cámara durante algunos de sus numerosos viajes por el mundo. Desde Bilbao o Madrid, hasta Venecia o los Fiordos, la exhibición invita al visitante a sumergirse en un apasionante recorrido gráfico. Hasta el 29 de agosto, en el Puerto de Sotogrande.

El Juzgado Mixto número 1 de San Roque ha abierto diligencias previas tras una querella presentada por David Stirling --figura destacada en el mundo del polo internacional-- contra Ramón Mora-Figueroa Domecq y su hijo Ramón Mora-Figueroa Mora-Figueroa por un presunto delito de estafa en relación a unos terrenos destinados al deporte del polo en Sotogrande.

Netco Investment S.A., como propietaria de Santa Maria Polo Club, ha desmentido la información, afirmando que son falsas todas las razones esgrimidas en la citada querella. Los propietarios de Santa María Polo Club anuncian, por todo, que responderán debidamente a dicha querella ante los tribunales competentes.

“E3”. The Raid is a long distance race, in this case over 18km, and is an initiation test, between the beaches of Sotogrande (start and finish) and Alcaidesa. The rider who makes it to the finish line first with his horse in the best physi-

cal condition (following different veterinary checks) is the winner. The event was attended by a considerable number of spectators. It was a great evet that left beautiful images on Sotogrande beach between horses, riders, the landscape and spectators.

La Casa de Alba se encuentra presente de una manera muy especial este verano en Sotogrande… Así es, es un sitio realmente extraordinario y muy idóneo para presentar nuestra selección de productos gourmet. Muy acorde con nuestra filosofía basada en la calidad, el prestigio y la seriedad en la manera de llevar a cabo cualquier acción. ¿En qué consiste este proyecto gourmet y cómo decidió embarcarse? El Proyecto Gourmet Casa de Alba parte de un plan esbozado para generar nuevos brazos económicos que contribuyan a la sostenibilidad de la Casa. Una de las opciones que manejábamos fue la de aprovechar los elementos agrícolas de las fincas para elaborar productos de primera calidad; la punta de

lanza fue el aceite de oliva. Encontramos un colaborador de calidad como es Alcubilla2000 y desde que comenzamos en esta andadura todo ha sido positivo. Su buena organización, cultura en el aceite y buen hacer nos llevó a dar este paso con garantías. También era necesario poner cierto orden en este sentido, en este mercado en general, y definir la calidad de los productos que son realmente buenos. ¿Qué productos encontrarán los visitantes que acudan a Santa María Polo Club? Principalmente, tres: aceite, ibéricos y cerveza. Encontramos una colaboración hace algunos meses con la Dehesa El Milagro (cuyos artículos están representados en el Restaurante Handicap 10) para que estos tres productos estuvieran presentes junto a los suyos. Nos motivó a

colaborar con ellos su buen hacer, cómo elaboran y cuidan el producto, y una calidad soberbia. Su implicación en el proyecto es total… Completamente. Vimos que podía ser proyecto muy gratificante. Mi madre (Cayetana de Alba) me apoyó para llevarlo a cabo y es una manera de estar vinculado permanentemente de una forma estrecha a Casa de Alba. ¿Qué tal su experiencia en Sotogrande? Realmente hasta hace 3 ó 4 años sólo había estado de pasada aunque a mis hijos les encanta. Fue precisamente el año pasado cuando pasé mayor tiempo y me parece un lugar excepcional. Tiene una concentración de valores de gran calidad, en todos los sentidos. Y en cuanto al polo,

al más alto nivel, me parece fantástico. Además, Santa María reúne una serie de elementos: deportivos, comerciales, gastronómicos, que son magníficos. La Casa de Alba cuenta entre sus nuevos proyectos una mayor exposición de su patrimonio, como ocurre recientemente con el Palacio de Dueñas (Sevilla). ¿Es ésta una nueva línea de futuro? Se trata de otro de los ejes para la sostenibilidad de la Casa. Por deferencia con mi madre, el Palacio de Dueñas no se encontraba abierto, era su residencia habitual. Ahora se podrán visitar la planta baja y los jardines, que

People really support our philosophy based around quality, prestige, and our seriousness when it comes to carrying out any action. What does the gourmet project consist of and how did you decide to embark on it? The Casa de Alba Gourmet Project started with a plan that was drafted in order to generate new financial means of contributing to the sustainability of

the Casa de Alba. One of the options we took into account was making the most of crops grown on the estates in order to make top-quality products; the spearhead was the olive oil. We found a quality collaborator in Alcubilla2000 and since we began this journey everything has been positive. Their good organisation, oil making culture and quality practices helped us to take this step with guarantees. In this regard, it was also necessary to put some order into the general market, and to define the quality of products that are really good. What products will visitors to Santa María Polo Club find?

There are three main products: oil, Iberian ham, and beer. Some months ago we began collaboration with La Dehesa El Milagro (whose items are available at the Handicap 10 restaurant) so that those three products would be present alongside their items. We wanted to collaborate with them because of their good way of working, how they create and care for products, and their superb quality. You are fully involved in the project… Absolutely, we saw that it could be a really gratifying project. My mother (Cayetana de Alba) supported me in order to carry it out, and it is a means of maintaining continuous close links with the Casa de Alba.

How has your experience been in Sotogrande? Up until about 3 or 4 years ago I had never really spent much time here although my children love it. It was last year when I spent more time here and I think it is an exceptional place. It has a high concentration of quality values in every sense. As for the top-quality polo, I think it is fantastic. Also, Santa María brings together a serious of different aspects: sports, shopping, cuisine, that are magnificent. La Casa de Alba’s new projects include a greater display of its heritage which is what has happened recently

It is another of the key pillars for the sustainability of the Casa de Alba. Out of deference to my mother, the Palacio de Dueñas was not previously open, it was her habitual residence. Now it is possible to visit the ground floor and the gardens, which I think is the nicest bit to discover. The exhibitions and visits are another of the new projects. What will be the next step for the gourmet project? Will it continue its links with Sotogrande? The next step is growing. We want to consolidate the success of our current six products (meats, oil, Iberian ham, honey, pastries, and beer) and to increase their marketing and distribution. Of course, we will continue to commit to having a presence in Sotogrande; for quality, for the general public here…it is a perfect place.

Recientemente lo han nombrado consejero delegado de Sotogrande S.A. ¿Qué le animó a venir aquí? Cerberus Capital Management y Orion Capital Managers, empresas con las que he tenido una larga asociación, adquirieron Sotogrande S.A. a NH Hotel Group en noviembre de 2014. Cuando me preguntaron si me interesaba dirigir Sotogrande S.A. y su reestructuración, simplemente no pude rechazar la oportunidad de volver a una zona que descubrí y de la que me enamoré hace 20 años cuando estaba urbanizando dos complejos en la Costa del Sol para Marriott. Por aquel entonces, siempre tenía en mente a Sotogrande como próximo destino para Marriott, pero nunca pude encontrar el lugar adecuado, por lo que ahora es maravilloso poder formar parte de su futuro. ¿Qué referencias tenía de Sotogrande y qué se encontró a su llegada? Como mucha gente que conoce este destino, en mi mente Sotogrande se asocia a imágenes de arquitectura exquisita y vida de lujo, un hermoso entorno, polo, deportes acuáticos, golf y, por supuesto, comunidad y amigos. En los últimos años, Sotogrande quizá no ha realizado las inversiones necesarias y eso es algo que nosotros, como nuevos propietarios, vamos a solucionar en la medida de lo posible. Ahora que vemos con claridad la visión de la empresa, nuestro objetivo es hacer que este lugar sea tan vibrante, cautivador y atractivo en el futuro como lo fue cuando comenzó a existir hace 50 años. ¿Cómo va su primer verano en Sotogrande? Hasta ahora ha sido emocionante e intenso. Hemos estado disfrutando de la belleza de Sotogrande, pero hemos estado finalizando nuestra visión y planes de futuro relacionados con las nuevas comunidades del lugar, también hemos estado introduciendo capital para mejorar el estilo de vida de los que ya viven aquí. Marc Topiol, the new CEO of Sotogrande S.A., reveals for El Periódico de Sotogrande the new vision of the company with one clear objective: ensure that the destination Sotogrande is as vibrant, captivating and appealing in the future as it was when it first came into being more than 50 years ago You have recently been appointed as the new CEO of Sotogrande S.A. What made you decide to come here? Cerberus Capital Management and Orion Capital Managers, companies with which I have had a long standing association, acquired Sotogrande S.A. from the NH Hotel Group in November 2014. When asked about my interest in leading Sotogrande S.A. and its restructuring, I simply couldn’t reject the opportunity to return to an area I discovered and fell in love with 20 years ago when I was developing two resorts in the Costa del Sol for Marriott. Back then, Sotogrande was always on my mind as the next destination for Marriott but I was never able to acquire a site, so it’s wonderful to now be able to be part of its future. What references did you have about Sotogrande and what did you find once you arrived? Like many people who are aware of this destination, in my mind Sotogrande conjures up images of fine architecture and high end living, beautiful scenery, polo, water sports, golf and of course, community and friends. In recent years, Sotogrande has perhaps not had the investment it needs and that is something we, as new owners, are going to put right where we can. Now that we have clarity on the company’s vision, our aim is to make this destination as vibrant, captivating and appealing in the future as it was when it first came into being more than 50 years ago. How is your first summer in Sotogrande going? So far it has been exciting and intense. Obviously we have been enjoying the beauty of Sotogrande, but we have also been finalising our vision and future plans related to the new communities here, as well as deploying capital to upgrade the lifestyle of those already here. This new vision is already coming to life, and this summer’s initiatives are only the starting point. What is the new vision of Sotogrande S.A.? We started work on building our new vision on the very first day we arrived and have worked closely with a number of leading specialist firms. We have done a

substantial amount of research to fully understand the DNA and history of Sotogrande and we have carefully listened to our residents, our future residents and the wider community.The way forward for this great destination lies in our hands and we understand the responsibilities that come with this. We respect, and aim to build, on the original vision of Joseph McMicking and Mercedes Zobel McMicking, the founders of Sotogrande. Our aim is to return Sotogrande to the distinctive status it once had through investments in new

Galería Efímera, espacio dedicado al arte ubicado en Sotogrande y cuya galerista es Adriana Sainz de Vicuña, inauguró la exposición “La Sombra Engalanada”, la cual congregó a numerosos amantes del arte que se acercaron para apreciar la obra. La exposición consta de sombrerería de Susana Loureda y las fotografías de Alberto García-Alix. Las exposiciones no paran en Galería Efímera. Esta vez fue el turno para “La Sombra Engalanada”, que muestra las fotografías de Alberto García-Alix junto con los sombreros de Susana Loureda. La colaboración de ambos, vigente desde 1987, se actualiza para esta ocasión especial con las últimas creaciones de Polita Hats, marca creada por Susana Loureda en 2003.

Los sombreros tienen una ﬁnalidad de ser usados en ocasiones especiales y felices y son cosidos y moldeados a mano. Las piezas están realizadas con técnicas de sombrerería tradicional y materiales naturales y de la más alta calidad. La obra de Polita Hats, que se encuentra ahora expuesta en Sotogrande, ha desﬁlado por la Pasarela Cibeles y por Barcelona junto con nombres

reconocidos de la sombrerería nacional e internacional. Galería Efímera, ubicada en el centro comercial de Sotogrande Galerías Paniagua, ofreció un cóctel para los asistentes a la inauguración. Aquel amante del arte que desee apreciar “La Sombra Engalanada” puede acudir al espacio de Adriana Sainz de Vicuña hasta el próximo 15 de agosto.

creations, which are now on display in Sotogrande, have graced the Cibeles and Barcelona catwalks alongside domestically and internationally renowned names from the millinery world. Galería Efímera, which is located in the Sotogrande Galerías Paniagua commercial centre, held a cocktail party for those who attended the opening. Se abre en San Roque el debate sobre la rentabilidad de permanecer con los servicios y competencias en agua y recogida de residuos, externalizados a la sociedad pública Arcgisa, de la Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar. El Consistorio, tras una moción aprobada en el último Pleno de la Corporación, ha puesto en marcha una comisión técnica formada por seis altos funcionarios (sin la presencia de cargos políticos) que estudiará la rentabilidad o no de recuperar municipalmente estas competencias cara al futuro. Un gesto y una acción demandada desde hace bastante tiempo por numerosos vecinos del municipio, por el constante encarecimiento de las tasas y recibos en los últimos años por parte de Arcgisa (son muchos los casos en conocimiento de este medio y las personas que han reclamado esta si-

tuación); además de una propuesta política de muchos grupos. Especialmente, en los últimos años, ha sido principalmente el PIVG (Partido Independiente del Valle del Guadiaro) el grupo que más ha luchado por el estudio y recuperación de estas competencias, según

defienden, por el “descomunal” gasto que supone el mantenimiento de entidades como la Mancomunidad y Arcgisa. El alcalde de San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, presentó en el Pleno del pasado 30 de Julio, una moción de urgencia, que tras ser aprobada, da lu-

gar la creación de una comisión de técnicos municipales que realizarán un expediente administrativo para “determinar la forma de gestión más eficaz para la prestación de los servicios de abastecimiento de agua potable y alcantarillado, y de recogida de residuos urbanos”.

La moción, fue aprobada con los votos del PSOE, SRSSP, PA y PIVG y la abstención de PP. Ningún grupo se opuso a que la Comisión, en la que sólo hay técnicos y ningún político, estudie si sería más rentable para el ciudadanos que el Ayuntamiento, a través de Emadesa, prestara los

servicios de agua y recogida de basuras. Seis altos funcionarios del Ayuntamiento componen la Comisión de Estudio que debe elaborar una memoria relativa a los posibles medios de gestión de los referidos servicios. En dicha Comisión no se incluye a ningún político. Dicha comisión requerirá a la Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar y a la Sociedad Pública Argisa los datos relativos al personal (con especificación de categoría, antigüedad y retribuciones en computo anual, que prestan sus servicios, dentro de los límites del Municipio de San Roque), tanto en el abastecimiento de aguas y alcantarillado, como

en la recogida de basuras”. También se solicitará información sobre el personal destinado en los servicios centrales, patrimonio de la sociedad, volumen de deuda

de cobros y medios (propios o ajenos). La gestión del servicio de abastecimiento de agua y alcantarillado fue transferida en 1992 a la Mancomunidad, a lo que vino a sumarse en 2009 la zona de Sotogrande. Lo mismo pasó en 2010 con el servicio de recogida de residuos sólidos urbanos. El portavoz del PIVG, Jesús Mayoral, ya defendía esta teoría desde hace tiempo y lo refrendaba en su programa para la legislatura presente. “Los costes se abaratan cuando no tienes que sostener un aparato político burocrático. Los servicios de agua y basura se puedan acometer sin distinción política ni coste para los vecinos. Sólo con esta medida se ahorraría entre el 15 o 20% del servicio”. Por su parte, el actual alcalde, Ruiz Boix (PSOE), ya recogía en su programa que se “comprometía” a realizar un detallado estudio económico para estudiar la “opción más rentable para los ciudadanos tanto en precio como servicios”. En la misma línea se pronunciaba Marina García (PP), que explicaba que valoraría la situación una vez tuviese “un detallado informe

en sus manos”. Por parte del grupo andalucista, Juan Serván, también lanzaba la propuesta de estudiar diversas medidas para abaratar los costes de los ciudadanos y posibles convenios con Arcgisa, así como José Reyes, de San Roque si se puede, que reclamaba un menor coste político en Mancomunidad, para abaratar las tasas. Una acción necesaria, a todas

luces, al menos de contar con un estudio detallado que analice las opciones más beneficiosas para los ciudadanos y que más ventaja suponga en todos lo sentidos. Costes, tasas, empleo, etc, son aspectos a tener en cuenta y para verificar si es más rentable o no continuar con estos servicios externalizados a la empresa mancomunada Arcgisa. A committee studies the profitability of recovering the water and waste services • A committee, made up of San Roque municipal technicians, is working in the collection of data so as to compile a report that shows whether or not it is more productive to keep these services in the hands of the regional grouping of municipalities • The proposal was passed without any opposition from the political parties • The committee is made up of six high-ranking civil servants and is free of any political representation The debate has started in San Roque about the profitability of sticking with the water and waste disposal services that are outsourced to the public company Arcgisa, from the Campo de Gibraltar grouping of municipalities. The committee, following a motion that was passed at the latest Plenary Corporate Session, has put together a technical commission made up of six high-ranking civil servants (without the presence of any political parties) which will study whether or not it is profitable for the municipality to recover these services in the future. Numerous municipal residents had been demanding this action for quite some time because of Arcgisa’s constant fee and invoice hikes over the last few years (there are many cases against this

company and a lot of people have complained about this situation); and many groups have also used it as a political proposal. Over the last few years the PIVG (Partido Independiente del Valle del Guadiaro) in particular is the group that has fought the hardest for this investigation and towards recovering these services due to, what they argue, the “colossal” costs involved with supporting entities like the grouping of municipalities and Arcgisa. The San Roque mayor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, presented an emergency motion at the Plenary Commission on 30 July, which after being passed will allow for the creation of a committee of municipal technicians that will carry out an administrative inquiry in order to “determine the most effective management me-

thod for benefitting the drinking water, sewage system and waste disposal services”. The motion was passed with votes from the PSOE, SRSSP, PA and PIVG and the abstention of the PP. No groups opposed the plan for the Committee, which is comprised entirely of technicians and contains no politicians, to investigate whether or not it were more profitable for citizens if the Town Council, through Emadesa, provided the water and waste disposal services. The Investigation Committee is made up of six high-ranking civil servants who must compile a report on the possible management methods for the aforementioned services. No politicians are on this committee. This committee will require the Campo de Gibraltar’s grouping of municipalities and the Public Company Argisa to provide personal data (specifying the category, age and calculated yearly

payments relating to the services they provide within the limits of the municipality of San Roque) related to water distribution and sanitation as well as waste disposal”. It will also request information on the staff assigned to central services, the company’s assets, the overall level of debt, all the rights and obligations; equipment and investments, as well as the depreciation periods relating to them that are either fully or partially assigned to San Roque, in addition to payment collection management systems (in-house and outsourced). The management of the water and sanitation services was assigned back in 1992 to the grouping of municipalities, which then took charge of the Sotogrande area in 2009. The same occurred in 2010 with the urban waste disposal service. The PIVG spokesperson, Jesús Mayoral, has argued this theory

for a number of years and included it in his programme for the current legislature. “Costs will be reduced once we no longer have to sustain a bureaucratic political apparatus. The water and waste services can be undertaken without any political interference or further costs for the residents. With this measure alone the service would save between 15 and 20%”. For his part, the current mayor, Ruiz Boix (PSOE), has already outlined in his programme that “there is a commitment” to carry out a detailed economic study to consider the “most profitable option for citizens both in terms of price and service”. Speaking in a similar fashion was Marina García (PP), who explained that she will evaluate the situation once she has “a detailed report”. For the part of the Andalusian group, Juan Serván, also proposed studying various measures for reducing the costs for citizens as well as possible agreements with Arcgisa. José Reyes, representing San Roque Si Se Puede, demanded a smaller political cost from the groups of municipalities so as to reduce the fees. It is clearly a necessary undertaking to at least have a detailed study which analyses the most beneficial options for citizens and what is most advantageous in all respects. Costs, fees, employment etc. are things to keep in mind and help to verify whether or not it is more profitable to continue outsourcing these services to Arcgisa. The answer will be revealed over the upcoming months.

desembarcó en Sotogrande con un amplio despliegue en cuanto a inversión y apuesta por revalorizar uno de los enclaves más simbólicos y tradicionales de la Urbanización. No cabe la menor duda de que el cambio

ha sido positivo en muchos de los sentidos. Con unos niveles altos en servicio y calidad, además de una imagen moderna y atractiva para convertir el Club de Playa, Trocadero Sotogrande, en uno de los puntos de encuentro y lugares más

atrayentes para turistas y residentes. Con motivo de este primer aniversario desde su llegada a Sotogrande, El Periódico de Sotogrande ha querido consultar las opiniones de varios de los usuarios y residentes en Sotogrande,

sobre este primer aniversario. En su mayoría, la opinión generalizada, trata sobre un cambio positivo y a mejor aunque se reclama el mantenimiento de la filosofía y estilo tradicional del Club de Playa en Sotogrande.

What assessment can we make of Trocadero’s first year in Sotogrande? The beginning of August marked the first anniversary of Trocadero Sotogrande starting up. Following an extensive remodelling and updating of the traditional El Cucurucho Beach Club, Grupo Trocadero arrived in

Sotogrande with a large amount of investment and a big commitment to strengthen one of the most symbolic and traditional sites in the Resort. There is absolutely no doubt that the change has been positive in many

regards. With high levels of service and quality, as well as a modern and appealing image, Trocadero Sotogrande has managed to turn the Beach Club into one of the most attractive meet up points and places

for tourists and residents. On the occasion of its first anniversary in Sotogrande, the Periódico de Sotogrande wanted to find out the opinions of several users and residents in Sotogrande. The majority of

people, and the general opinion, is that this is a positive change and an improvement. However, there are calls for it to maintain the philosophy and traditional style of the Beach Club in Sotogrande.

Susana Fontecha lleva más de 15 años residiendo en Sotogrande. Es licenciada en Dirección y Administración de Empresas y Master en Gestión Bancaria. Hace unos meses fundó la agencia inmobiliaria Kassa Sotogrande y está inmersa de pleno en el desarrollo de este proyecto. ¿Qué te motivó a fundar Kassa Sotogrande? No existe en Europa una urbanización de las características de Sotogrande. La calidad de vida que uno puede encontrar aquí solo es equiparable con algunos de los mejores resorts de EEUU. Aquí tenemos buen clima, fantásticas playas, algunos de los mejores campos de golf del mundo y todo ello en un entorno seguro y privado.

Some months ago she founded the property agency Kassa Sotogrande and now she is fully immersed in developing the project. What motivated you to start up Kassa Sotogrande? You could say that it was a mix of different factors. After many years spent working for different companies and in different sectors, I decided that it was a good time to develop my own project. It is something that I had been considering for years and I finally made the move. I detected a need in

the area’s property market for a different and unique service. I think that, generally speaking, Sotogrande’s future is very bright. What is your project based on and what is the service that you mention? We are not a typical property agency. We are going to work with a small number of clients and only offer the most exclusive properties in Sotogrande. Due to my professional experience, I think that I really know the needs of a certain type of client. Many of them require maximum service and dedication from their property agent; they want top-quality professional consultation and detailed information about the local market in order to make a proper assessment about their

potential investment. How will you connect with those clients who still do not know about you? Over the years I have developed a good list of contacts. We have agreements with agencies in London, Munich and Miami; our aim is to position ourselves as a company that offers a sublime and ad hoc service for each client. I believe that the best form of marketing is day to day work, you have to create a faultless reputation and the clients themselves should be your best ambassadors. I am convinced that our clients are very satisfied with our work and recommend us to their friends and family. We also take great care with our company image: we

have dedicated time and resources to the design of our logo and website. I think that that they perfectly match the philosophy of our company. How do you see the future for the property market in Sotogrande? At the moment I think there are a series of aspects that make me very optimistic. Logically, the management of Sotogrande SA by Cerberus is going to have a very positive impact on the area. The impact of Sotogrande SA’s new strategy is already being noted and it is clear that the action plan they have presented recently is very exciting for everyone who works in the sector. There are also external variables such as the situation of the dollar and pound sterling in relation to the euro;

the strength of those currencies means that Sotogrande is much more attractive for foreign investors. Then you can combine that with the situation of the interest rates and the absolutely key factor of being a unique destination in Europe. What do you mean by unique destination? Within Europe there is no other resort with the same characteristics as Sotogrande. The quality of life to be found here is comparable with some of the best resorts in the United States. Here we have a good climate, fantastic beaches, some of the best golf courses in the world and all within a secure and private environment.

Campo de Gibraltar Denuncian la falta de un mayor servicio de retirada de restos en Pueblo Nuevo ✑ M. Gil

El Partido Andalucista (PA) de San Roque presentó un escrito en el registro municipal del Ayuntamiento en el que solicita información sobre el departamento responsable de retirar los restos vegetales y enseres de la vía pública. Uno de esos “puntos negros” denunciados por los andalucistas está localizado en Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro El concejal portavoz del Grupo municipal andalucista, Juan Serván, propone

un plan de actuación para acabar con los “puntos negros” existentes en varias zonas del municipio. Asimismo, reclama al alcalde “un informe sobre la gestión y control llevada a cabo por el Ayuntamiento durante el último año en esa materia” y se interesa por “la información que se ha facilitado a los vecinos sobre los horarios y días en que se pueden depositar enseres para su retirada”. “No salimos de nuestro

asombro ante el estado que presentan estos espacios. Son demasiados sueldos y asesores para que las cosas sigan sin hacerse; esperamos recibir respuesta dentro de los cinco días reglamentariamente establecidos”, declaró Serván.

One of the black spots the Andalusian party members are complaining about is located in Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro. The spokesperson for the municipal Andalusian group, Juan Serván, proposes an action plan to get rid of black spots that exist in several areas of the municipality. La declaración de Ruiz Boix, por la grabación de un Pleno, se aplaza Estaba prevista que el pasado lunes, 3 de agosto, el acalde de San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix prestase declaración como imputado ante la denuncia por un presunto delito delito de coacciones y prevaricación, en relación al hecho de no permitir grabar el Pleno de la Corporación sanroqueña el pasado 27 de febrero de 2013. La jueza del Juzgado Número 2 de San Roque aplazó la declaración por estar ocupada en otros casos. El hecho fue que el primer edil expulsó de la sala al denunciante mientras grababa la sesión con su móvil, en una sesión bastante intensa en la que se estaban realizando protestas por un colectivo de policías locales contra el edil de Seguridad, José Manuel Ordóñez. Tras tomar declaración, Ruiz Boix presentó un recurso de apelación el fue desestimado por la Sala y tenía que prestar declaración en calidad de imputado el 3 de agosto. Dicha declaración se producirá en los próximos meses. En declaraciones a este periódico, Ruiz Boix explicó que se trataban de unas diligencias previas y que “no tengo ningún temor a declarar o explicar lo que ocurrió porque fue perfectamente legal y una situación que había que solucionar”.

After making a statement, Ruiz Boix made an appeal that was rejected by the Court and he was summoned to make a declaration as the accused party on 3 August. This declaration will take place over the coming months. In statements made to this newspaper, Ruiz Boix explained that these were preliminary proceedings and said “I have no fears about making a statement or explaining what happened because it was perfectly legal and a situation that had to be resolved”.

La Marina acoge con éxito un concurso para perros

Más de un centenar de perros participaron ayer en el primer Dog Show celebrado en La Marina de Sotogrande y que patrocinó Royal Canin y Sotogrande S. A. A la cita, al margen de los concursantes, se acercaron un gran número de curiosos acompañados de sus mascotas para deleitarse con el desﬁle de estos ‘amigos de cuatro patas’. El Dog Show contó con un des-

ﬁle de cada perro participante, junto a su dueño, por una alfombra roja para mostrarse al público y al jurado. El concurso canino contó con la elección del perro más grande, el más pequeño, el más joven, el más longevo, el más en forma, el más obediente, el más peludo y la familia más numerosa. Hizo las delicias del público las acrobacias de una pareja de galgos ita-

lianos en el concurso del perro más obediente, así como la participación de un pastor alemán en silla de ruedas. Se entregaron regalos para todos los participantes en el desﬁle y, además, se organizaron actividades infantiles. Y para ayudar a que los perros vivan mejor, se dieron consejos sobre el control del peso y sobre cómo mejorar su mundo.

More than one hundred dogs took part in the ﬁrst Dog Show held yesterday in Sotogrande Marina, sponsored by Royal Canin and Sotogrande S.A. Aside from the competitors, the event was attended by a large number of curious onlookers along with their pets, who enjoyed the parade of four-legged friends. The Dog Show included a catwalk performance from every participating dog, along with their owner. They walked down a red carpet to present themselves to the spectators and jury. The canine competition picked out the largest, smallest, youngest, oldest, ﬁttest, most obedient and hairiest dogs as well as the biggest dog family. The crowds

revelled in the acrobatic tricks of a pair of Italian greyhounds in the competition for the most obedient dog, as well as the participation of a German shepherd in a wheelchair. Gifts were awarded to all of the participants in the show and there were also children’s activities. In order to help dogs lead better lives, advice was oﬀered about weight control and how to improve a dog’s world.

La Plaza de Encarnación Sánchez Navarro, en Torreguadiaro, acogió un año más la Noche de la Tapa, una iniciativa de la Asociación de Mujeres La Charca que se celebra desde 2003. Participaron numerosos los vecinos de la barriada y visitants que pasan las vacaciones en la zona, quienes pudieron disfrutar de una noche magníﬁca en un gran ambiente, que se acompañó además de la música de Al Son del Sur. Óscar Ledesma, edil del Valle del Guadiaro, subrayó que

“esta actividad permite pasar una noche muy agradable aquí en Torreguadiaro, donde viene realizándose desde 2003 debido a la ilusión y el gran trabajo de la Asociación de Mujeres La Charca, a las que hay que agradecer su esfuerzo en ampliar la oferta gastronómica y turística de Torreguadiaro”. Por su parte, la portavoz de la Asociación de Mujeres La Charca, Ana María Rojas, indicó que “un año más estamos con esta Feria de la Tapa, y

cada año superándonos. Estamos muy contentos con que haya tanta gente, y quiero dar las gracias a las delegaciones del Ayuntamiento y a todos los que han colaborado con nosotros. El año que viene iremos a más, ”, ﬁnalizó.

Con talento e ingenio se puede crear arte con todo o casi todo. Jesús González Gavilán puede dar cuenta de ello, tras convertirse en sólo cuatro años en uno de los tallistas más prestigiosos y demandados a nivel regional en elementos naturales, principalmente con frutas y verduras. Sus elegantes y originales creaciones se han convertido en todo un indispensable en eventos, fiestas y ceremonias. Jesús cuenta cómo se embarcó en esta aventura. “Llevo más de 30 años trabajando en la hostelería (actualmente en el

Hotel Montera) y siempre he sido muy creativo y apasionado de la pintura. Pero fue hace cuatro años cuando conocí esta disciplina, me cautivó y me aficioné. Poco a poco he ido creciendo”, explica. “El verano es la época de mayor demanda, con las bodas, eventos, centros de mesa…son todo un éxito”, añade. Asegura que disfruta y le divierte y que fuera de España es una disciplina muy extendida. “Me sirvo de cuchillos tailandeses como herramienta, para el tallado, es necesario que la fruta no esté madura,

sino que se encuentre dura aún”, matiza. “Los productos varían según la época del año; en invierno las zanahorias, calabazas o nabos son lo más habituales mientras que en verano, el melón y la sandía (se pueden sacar tres colores) son los reyes”, añade. En cuanto a su duración, con un buen cuidado “aplicando agua y limón” y frío, puede durar varios días. Jesús González Gavilán can attest to this, in only four years he has become one of the most prestigious and sought-after carvers in the region for his work with natural materials, mainly fruit and vegetables. His elegant and original

creations have made him an essential attraction at events, parties, and ceremonies. Jesús talked to us about how he embarked on this adventure. “I have been working in the hotel and catering industry (currently at Hotel Montera) for more than 30 years and I have always been very creative and passionate about painting. However,

when I discovered this discipline four years ago, it captivated me and I became a real fan. I have gradually improved”, he explains. “Summer is the period with most demand due to weddings, events, centrepieces… they are a real success”, he adds. He says he enjoys himself and finds it fun and that it is a widespread

practice outside of Spain. “I use Thai knives as my tools to carve, it is essential that the fruit is not ripe, it needs to be hard still”, he adds. “Products vary depending on time of year; in winter, carrots, pumpkins and turnips are most common while in summer, melon and watermelon (there are three colours) are the stars

Gran asistencia a la misa en recuerdo de Fernando mínguez, en Sotogrande Pocas veces presenta la Iglesia de Sotogrande una imagen con la que se puede apreciar en estas fotografías. Un enorme número de amigos y conocidos no quisieron perderse la misa oficiada (el 10 de agosto) en recuerdo de Fernando Mínguez, fallecido a principios del pasado mes de julio. Fueron muchos los rostros conocidos que acudieron a la eucaristía, fruto del enorme cariño y estima con el que contaba Mínguez entre la Comunidad de Sotogrande.

Nueva Ley aplicable a las sucesiones transfronterizas A partir del próximo 17 de agosto será aplicable el Reglamento Europeo 650/2012, de sucesiones y de creación del certificado sucesorio europeo que afecta, de manera muy esencial, a la determinación de cuál va a ser la normativa que se va a aplicar a las herencias. Hasta ahora, en España la regla general ha sido que la ley aplicable a una herencia es la ley nacional que tuviera el causante en el momento de fallecer, de modo que la herencia de un francés o brasileño, a efectos de España, se rige por la normativa de estos países, residan donde residan. Y si un español de nacimiento ha perdido esta nacionalidad y ostenta otra en el momento de fallecer, por ejemplo rusa, será la ley rusa la que se aplicará a su herencia. Hasta este momento, el testador no podía elegir directamente qué ley es la que deseaba que se aplicara a su herencia, estaba predeterminada por su nacionalidad.

Todo esto cambia con el Reglamento europeo. Para las personas que fallezcan a partir del 17 de agosto de 2015, la ley aplicable a su herencia en principio ya no será la de su nacionalidad, sino la de su residencia habitual en el momento de fallecer. Esta variación del criterio tiene mucha importancia. Pensemos en el caso, enormemente frecuente, de ingleses que tienen residencia habitual en Andalucía, que es territorio en el que aplica el derecho común. Hasta ahora, les era aplicable la legislación inglesa de sucesiones, que como es sabido carece de legítimas de obligado cumplimiento, pero ahora se le va a aplicar la ley española de derecho común, con sus tercios de legítima, mejora y libre disposición y demás normativa. Esto puede chocar con disposiciones testamentarias que hubiera otorgado esta persona en uso de su total libertad de testar, con la previsible sorpresa de los herederos.

Hay que reseñar que el concepto de qué sea la residencia habitual a efectos del Reglamento no está del todo claro, pues éste no ofrece una definición del mismo y no existe homogeneidad en todos los países que integran la Unión. Esto puede plantear problemas y, en muchos casos, pleitos, cuando entre los interesados en una herencia no exista consenso acerca de cuál era la verdadera residencia del fallecido. La normativa del Reglamento también afecta a los españoles que residan fuera, de modo que si un nacional español reside habitualmente en Rusia, por ejemplo, la ley aplicable a su herencia sería la de este país. No obstante, la regla de que la ley de residencia habitual es la que rige la sucesión tiene dos excepciones. La primera es que, para casos muy concretos, resultare claramente de todas las circunstancias que, en el momento del fallecimiento,

el causante mantenía un vínculo manifiestamente más estrecho con un Estado distinto del Estado cuya ley fuese aplicable, en cuyo caso la ley que sería aplicable es la de ese primer Estado. No se indica cuáles son los criterios para determinar ese vínculo, pero sí parece que debe ser de interpretación restringida. Y la segunda excepción es por el contrario de carácter e interés general. El propio reglamento permite evitar estos efectos jurídicos por medio de una declaración expresa hecha en testamento. En él, el testador podrá ordenar que la ley que se aplique a su herencia no sea la de la residencia habitual cuando fallezca, sino la de su nacionalidad en el momento de otorgar testamento. Y si tuviera varias en ese momento, podrá elegir cualquiera de ellas. Por tanto, es conveniente, para los extranjeros que residan habitualmente en España y que quieran que sea la ley

de su país la que rija su sucesión, así como para los españoles que en su caso residan fuera, el otorgar un testamento en el que, aparte las disposiciones de rigor, indiquen expresamente su voluntad en tal sentido. New Law applicable to cross-border successions 17 August marks the coming into effect of European Regulation 650/2012, in matters of succession and the creation of a European Certificate of Succession that essentially determines what will be the regulations that are applied to inheritances. Until now, the general rule in Spain has been that the law applicable to an inheritance is the national law that the deceased person had at the time of their death. This means that the inheritance of a French or Brazilian person, for Spanish purposes, would be governed by the regulations of the person’s respective countries, regardless of where they reside. Also, if someone who is Spanish by birth has lost their Spanish nationality and has another at the time of their death, for example Russian, then it will be Russian law that is applied to their inheritance. Up until now, the tes-

tator was unable to directly choose which law they wanted to be applied to their inheritance; it was predetermined by their nationality. All of this changes with the European Regulation. For people who die from 17 August 2015 onwards, the law applicable to their inheritance will in principle no longer be that of their nationality. Rather, it will be that of their habitual residence at the time of death. This change to criteria is highly significant. Think of the extremely common cases of English people who have their habitual residence in Andalusia, a territory where civil law is applied. Until now, English succession law applied to them, and as is well known, it does not have obligatory thirds of an estate that must be handed down. However, now Spanish civil law will apply to them, with

the estate being divided up between the obligatory third handed down to family, the third for betterment apportionable at will to all or any of the lawful heirs and the third that can be given away freely. This can clash with the testamentary provisions that the person may have issued when they had total freedom to make a will, to the foreseeable surprise of the inheritors. It is worth stating that the concept of what constitutes the habitual residence for the purposes of the Regulation is not at all clear, as the legislation offers no definition and there is no homogeneity among all of the member states of the Union. This can result in problems, and in many cases, lawsuits, when there is no consensus among the interested parties with regard to the true residence of the deceased person.

The Regulation also affects Spaniards who reside outside of the country. So, if a Spanish national has their habitual residence in Russia for example, the law that applies to their inheritance will be that of Russia. However, the rule stipulating that the habitual residence governs succession has two exceptions. The first is for very specific cases, should it be absolutely clear that at the time of death, the deceased had a link that was stronger to a State that is different to the State whose law is applicable, then the law of the former State would apply. The regulation does not indicate what the criteria are for determining this link, but interpretation does appear to be restricted. On the contrary, the second exception is of general interest. The regulation itself makes it possible to avoid

these legal aspects through an explicit declaration made in the will. In it, the testator can order that the law applied to their inheritance is not to be that of their habitual residence at the time of death but rather that of their nationality when they create the will. If they hold different nationalities at the time of drafting the will, they can choose between any of them. This therefore is convenient for foreigners who have their habitual residence in Spain but want their succession to be governed by the law of their country, as well as for Spaniards who reside outside of Spain, who when issuing their will explicitly express their will in that regard. verdad es que está muy bueno. Después de la temporada inglesa llegar a Sotogrande con otro clima y con canchas e instalaciones tan buenas siempre es estupendo”, dice. “Cuando te colocas los pantalones blancos y juegas trofeos de renombre como la Copa de Plata y la Copa de Oro tienes exigencia y quieres ganar. Pero es cierto que es un buen torneo para jugar después de una temporada inglesa muy exigente, con un polo muy competitivo. Sotogrande es competitivo pero el calendario no es tan exigente por lo cual es un poco más relajado y previo a lo que se viene, la temporada argentina, es el combo ideal”, asegura.

“When you are playing for prestigious trophies you put demands on yourself to win” Nico Pieres is back at the Santa María Polo Club for the second consecutive year in order to play in the 44th International Tournament for RH Polo, the team he also played the English season with. During his stay in Sotogrande, La Bocha Polo Magazine visited the youngest of the Pieres brothers as part of its special for the Periódico de Sotogrande. We met up at his team’s stables at Dos Lunas Polo Club to talk about everything, and especially about the Argentine Season that he is counting down the days to. “It is the second year that I have come to play with RH, I also came to play two consecutive years with Ellerston and the truth is that it is really god. After the

English season, arriving in Sotogrande with another climate, and such good pitches and facilities is also incredible”, he says. “When you put on the white trousers and you are playing for prestigious trophies such as the Copa de Plata and the Copa de Oro you put demands on yourself and want to win. It is indeed a good tournament to play following a very demanding English season, with very competitive polo. Sotogrande is competitive but the schedule is not so demanding therefore it is a little more relaxation and ahead of what is coming, the Argentinian season, it is the ideal combination”, he states.

La vela, a la conquista de Sotogrande La XVI Copa Sotogrande de Vela se celebra del 14 al 16 de agosto, una edición muy especial ya que contará con el I Memorial Antonio Muñoz Cabrero de Catamaranes La vela toma el protagonismo en Sotogrande. Del 14 al 16 de agosto se lleva a cabo, organizada por Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande, la XVI edición de la Copa Sotogrande. Un evento clásico en el verano y que toma este año un especial valor sentimental con la disputa del I Memorial Antonio Muñoz Cabrero de Catamaranes, en honor del que fuese uno de los grandes impulsores de este deporte en Sotogrande y que falleció a comienzos de este año. En esta edición, participarán todos aquellos barcos con certiﬁcado ORC 2015, ya que aprovechando la regata se pone en juego el Campeonato de Andalucía de Cruceros ORC (dentro de la clase ORC

se podrá establecer la clase Promoción). También participarán todos los barcos de clase cruceros así como una

inscripción abierto para Monotipos y Catamaranes de vela ligera. En la XVI Copa Sotogrande,

Campeonato de Andalucía ORC, se navegará hasta un máximo de 6 pruebas, de las cuales habrá que completar

al menos una. La actividad comienza el jueves, 13 de agosto, con el registro de catamaranes. Para el viernes 14 están previstas las pruebas de catamaranes y para el sábado y domingo (15 y 16 de agosto), se llevarán a cabo las citas para ORC y Monotipos. Sin duda, con esta nueva edición de la regata ‘reina’ de Sotogrande se cumple un año más una de las citas tradicionales del verano. Éxito de recaudación, en el torneo de golf a favor de Cáritas en La Reserva de Sotogrande 1 J. Sanz

El imponente trazado de La Reserva de Sotogrande acogió este martes, 4 de agosto, una nueva edición del Torneo de Golf Cáritas, en beneficio de la diferentes familias y personas del Valle del Guadiaro. Una fecha ya prácticamente tradicional de cada mes de agosto para conseguir sumar fondos para la asociación de Cáritas en la zona. El torneo, éxito de participación, recaudó una cifra total de 7.904 euros directamente destinada a la asociación benéfica.

Con dos salidas al tiro (09:00 y 15:00 horas), más de un centenar de golfistas participaron en esta jornada de golf solidario. Tras la jornada deportiva, a partir de las 20:30 horas, se celebró un cóctel como preludio de la entrega de premios. El premio a la bola más cercana recayó en Cristina Eulate en el hoyo 8 y Encarnita Rodríguez. Gonzalo Pardo y David Osborne fue la segunda pareja en la clasificación Scratch con 36 puntos, dos menos que los gana-

dores Scratch Paul Bramley y José Andreas. El duo ganador absoluto con 53 puntos de este campeonato de Cáritas jugado en Stableford estuvo conformado por Tomás Mico y Borja Martín. Tras los premios, se rifaron un lote plagado de productos cuya recaudación se incluyó en el cheque, que recogió el Padre Agustín Borrel. En total, 7.904 de los que mil fueron aportados por La Caixa, colaboradora en este acto benéfico.

A successful fundraising golf tournament for Cáritas in La Reserva The magnificent La Reserva de Sotogrande golf course held a new edition of the Cáritas Golf Tournament on Tuesday, 4 August, to raise money for various families and individuals in Valle del Guadiaro. It is practically a staple of the August golfing calendar now that raises funds for the area’s Cáritas association. The tournament, which had a wonderful level of participation, collected a

grand total of €7904 that will go directly to the charitable organisation. With two tee times (9am and 3pm), more than one hundred players took part in this charitable day of golf. Once the action finished on the course, at around 8:30pm, a cocktail party was held as an interlude to the prize-giving ceremony. The prize for the closest ball to the pin went to Cristina Eulate for her

shot on the eighth hole and Encarnita Rodríguez. Gonzalo Pardo and David Osborne were the second placed pair in the scratch competition with a score of 36 points, two fewer than the overall winners, Paul Bramley and José Andreas. The overall winning duo of the Cáritas championship in the stableford scoring system category, with 53 points, was made up of

Tomás Mico and Borja Martín. After the awards were handed out a raffle packed full of great prizes was held, the funds of which were included in the overall total, which

Father Agustín Borrel collected. In total, €7904 was raised, with over one thousand euro being donated by La Caixa, who collaborated with this charitable event.

María Parra asciende al segundo puesto del Ranking Mundial Femenino 1 Redacción

La guadiareña María Parra ha ascendido al segundo lugar del Ranking Mundial Amateur Femenino. La golfista del Siga Sotogrande y perteneciente a la Escuela Nacional Blume ha subido quince puestos merced a su brillantísimo triunfo en el Campeonato de Europa Individual de Austria. Una fabulosa noticia para el golf español, deporte que encuentra en el Valle del Guadiaro a una de sus canteras más prolíficas. Solo la irlandesa Leona Maguire supera en puntuación esta semana -3-9 de agosto- a una María Parra que está lanzada y que ha ascendido 15 puestos. Las cuentas están así: 1653 puntos de la irlandesa por 1453 de la española. María Parra ha ganado este año el citado torneo continental –convirtiéndose en la cuarta

española en hacerlo tras Luna Sobrón, Carlota Ciganda y Belén Mozo-, la Copa Andalucía, el Campeonato de la Comunidad Valenciana y, con el equipo español Sub 18, el Campeonato de Europa de República Checa. En la visita al Campo “La Unión” de Guadiaro, acompañó a la comitiva municipal el teniente de alcalde del Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, además del asesor municipal en la zona, Juan Roca, y de la edil Belén Jiménez. Óscar Ledesma manifestó que la obra, demandada por los ciudadanos de Guadiaro es por fin una realidad. “Hemos visto el comienzo de la obra, se está nivelando el terreno de juego, que no se encontraba en las condiciones óptimas para la práctica del fútbol, y esperamos que esté concluido sobre el 15 de septiembre” finalizó.

El golifsta Pedro Marín, de Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, se quedó a un solo paso de obtener un notable triunfo internacional en el Reid Trophy 2015, nombre con el que se conoce al Open de Inglaterra Sub 14. Su fantástica actuación en Preston Golf Club, mereció la victoria aunque finalmente cayó en

manos del francés Alexandre Lasalarie. Ambos mantuvieron un precioso duelo en la tercera y última jornada a la que había llegado en mejor disposición el galo tras firmar la mejor vuelta del torneo, un fantástico 68, en la previa. Pedro Marín jugó en el momento decisivo su mejor golf, lo que le

llevó a concluir bajo par por primera vez (70). Con +2 al total, el jugador del RCG Sotogrande debía esperar un traspié de Alexandre Lasalarie que no se produjo; se anotó el par del campo para acabar en paz con el exigente recorrido inglés y superar en dos impactos al español.

to Banús. La teniente de alcalde delegada de Seguridad Ciudadana, Mercedes Serrano, asistió ayer, miércoles, a una reunión en Cádiz para preparar el transcurso de la Vuelta. La reunión tuvo lugar en la Subdelegación del Gobierno en Cádiz, y se trataba de diseñar el dispositivo de Seguridad Vial y Tráfico para la etapa antes citada. Serrano, que asistió al encuen-

The Young Hopes Golf Championship takes place at La Cañada for third year The La Cañada Golf Club is hosting the Young Hopes Championship (Campeonato Jóvenes Promesas) organised by the brothers Alex and Borja Ocaña on 16, 17 and 18 August. Se celebró en el interior de la Urbanización la I Carrera Solidaria de Sotogrande. Un evento deportivo de los más demandados por los amantes del ‘running’ y que contó con una nota benéfica, ya que la recaudación se destinó a dos entidades solidarias como son la Fundación Santa María Polo Club y Más por ellos.

El buen tiempo y las altas temperaturas invitan a pasar un buen rato en playas y piscinas, y a practicar deportes náuticos. Aún así, debemos recordar que aunque el sol y el calor pueden ser muy agradables, debemos tomar precauciones para que no nos produzcan lesiones. Utiliza una protección solar adecuada: Es importante aplicarse el factor de protección correcto para nuestro tipo de piel (ver punto dos: Consejos para la seguridad de tu piel).

Aplica la protección solar antes de salir de casa: No esperes a llegar a la playa o la piscina. Aplícate la protección de forma generosa sobre la piel seca 30 min. antes de la exposición al sol. Protégete también los labios. La exposición al sol debe ser progresiva: Los primeros días toma el sol pocos minutos y ve aumentando el tiempo en días sucesivos, evitando las horas centrales del día. Con los niños debemos extremar las precauciones.
