en su edición 2015 el paso por Sotogrande no ha dudado en repetir para su calendario 2016. Y por supuesto, el gran protagonista deportivo este inverno en la zona está siendo el fútbol. Varios equipos del norte del continente europeo mantienen su apuesta por realizar la preparación invernal en Sotogrande y no sólo la mantienen, aumentan cada año el número de equipos que pasan aquí unas semanas de preparación física. Todo ello suma y todo ello fortalece la imagen de Sotogrande como destino multidisplinar. Y lo más importante de todo, aún ni se ha mencionado la palabra “verano”; eso ya es otro cantar. Y que siga así. Lograr desestacionalizar el contenido experiencial en la zona es el gran secreto para el crecimiento y desarrollo.

Sotogrande is and will always be one of the most coveted locations for holding any kind of event, whether sporting or social. A unique setting that combines the elements that every destination desires and that, more often than we would like, seem to be forgotten or neglected. The beginning of 2016 has seen some exciting news and promising events scheduled, which will make this year one of the most memorable in the area in recent times. One of the biggest announcements was the return of the European Tour with the Spanish Open, to be held at Real Club Valderrama, one of the legendary courses that professionals ﬂock to every year with the greatest of expectations.

Great new for golf, great news for Valderrama, and most of all, great news for Sotogrande. The social and economic impact that the tournament will generate in April has few rivals in this sport. Sotogrande is the home of golf, and this welcome news will hopefully mark the beginning of more and bigger events in the area. But it’s not all about golf. The polo returns with its spring season, and Santa María Polo Club, which recently announced that it will host an international gathering of golﬁng lawyers from all over the world. The polo world values this destination highly, that is unquestionable. In Sailing, the Atlantic Gate Rally, after

testing out Sotogrande in 2015, did not hesitate to repeat the event in 2016. And of course, the big sporting star this winter in the area has been football. Several teams from northern Europe have continued to use Sotogrande for their winter training, with a growing number of teams spending a few weeks here working on conditioning. Everything combines to strengthen Sotogrande’s reputation as a multidisciplinary destination. And most important of all, the word “summer” hasn’t even been mentioned yet, and that’s another matter entirely. And long may it last. Changing the seasonal nature of the destination is the secret to growth and development.

Una vez más nuestros políticos padecen el síndrome de insensatos Cuando todo parecía indicar el buen camino en la evolución económica, que por fin comenzaban a resurgir las buenas noticias en nuestro país y después de unas elecciones al Parlamento Español muy ‘sui géneris’, en las que por primera vez el bipartidismo queda descompuesto y segmentado, abierto con múltiples opciones y 1 José Luis García pactos políticos de muEditor/Director chos colores y estilos; jlgarcia@grupohcp.com las negociaciones y propuestas quedan lejos de lo que cabe esperar en un próspero país europeo. Todo ello, sin mencionar que prácticamente a diario se desayuna con un nuevo entramado de corrupción en las altas esferas que muy poco o nada suman a nuestra proyección internacional. Nos encontramos en un volátil momento, en el que debería brillar la sensatez pero que extrañamente predominan las fantasías y utopías de una serie de políticos ‘populistas’, que sólo desean y

quieren estar permanentemente planteando cuestiones irrealizables y carentes de sentido común. Esto nos demuestra una vez más: el síndrome de la insensatez que sufre nuestra clase política. En lugar de trabajar con coherencia y unir esfuerzo para formar un gobierno estable, al menos por un periodo razonable aunque corto, permitiría restablecer el orden y asegurar que no se corte el flujo de inversiones que estaba llegando a nuestros mercados. Son muchos los datos que indican que la inversión exterior, si no se encuentra paralizada, sí ralentizada en cierta medida a la espera de acontecimientos. Concretamente, desde Sotogrande, donde las inversiones suelen venir desde fuera de nuestras fronteras, podemos comprobar que ante un escenario político como el que se nos plantea, puede afectar a que se mantenga la línea de crecimiento en uno de los más destacados resorts de Europa. En el que todo debería ser ágil y eficiente para fomentar la llegada de residentes de gran poder adquisitivo y permitan el desarrollo de la zona y sus diferentes segmentos. Es una verdadera lástima que uno de los mejores destinos a nivel mundial, en el que ya se vislumbra un próspero movimiento a nivel económico y la certidumbre ante operaciones de gran calado, no cuenten con el respaldo, cara al exterior, de un clima de confianza y seguridad en el escenario político, con vistas al inversor extranjero. Este momento de auge se puede comprobar en el regreso de una

competición del Circuito Europeo de Golf a Sotogrande, como es el Open de España al Real Club Valderrama, antesala de un futuro evento golfistico del Tour continental en el prestigioso campo. En este sentido, hacer referencia tanto a la parcela dedicada al golf como a las demás citas de gran relevancia que tomarán lugar este año en Sotogrande. Tales como el Campeonato del Mundo de Vela de J80, la regata Atlantic Gate Rally 2016 y por supuesto el gran espectáculo del polo que arranca en primavera y proyecta otro memorable verano, entre otras muchas actividades. Confiamos que todos estos vaivenes a nivel nacional, anteriormente referidos, no supongan un obstáculo para los intereses nuestra área y las pertinentes actuaciones por parte de las distintas administraciones. Muchas de ellas de suma importancia: la regeneración y buen mantenimiento de las playas y sus accesos; o el cuidado de las conexiones por carretera con zonas estratégicas. En esta edición aparece un Informe en el que se muestra el deteriorado estado de la vía A-2100, conocida como la carretera de Las Arenillas, que supone una de las conexiones más transitadas desde Sotogrande a otros núcleos de la comarca. El adecentamiento de calles, planes de asfaltado, puesta en valor de zonas comunes…, todos los detalles, desde los más grandes a los más locales, forman parte de importante equilibrio para el desarrollo y crecimiento del destino Sotogrande. Once again our politicians suffer from stupidity syndrome When everything seemed to indicate that we were on the right path towards economic development, when good news was beginning to once again emerge and following some very unique elections for the Spanish Parliament, where for the first time the bi-party system has been broken down and segmented, open to multiple options and political pacts of all kinds; the negotiations and proposal are a long way from what you would expect in a prosperous European country. I forgot to mention the fact that we wake to a new corruption scandal almost everyday within the high political ranks, which does nothing to help our international image. We find ourselves at a volatile stage, where good sense should shine, however strangely it is the fantasies and utopias of a “populist” series of politicians that prevail, politicians that want to continuously pose unrealistic questions lacking common sense. Once again we see the stupidity syndrome that our political class suffers from. This is instead of them working together and uniting forces to form a stable government, at least for a reasonable if short period, which would make it possible to re-establish order and ensure that the flow of investments that were reaching our markets are not curtailed. There are a lot of

figures showing that foreign investments, if not completely paralysed, have indeed slowed down to a certain degree as people wait to see how events will unfold. Specifically, in Sotogrande, where investments usually come from outside of Spain, we can see that faced with a political situation like the one we are facing, it may affect the rate of growth in one of Europe’s outstanding resorts. This is a place where everything should be quick and efficient in order to encourage the arrival of residents with lots of spending power, who make it possible to develop the area and its different sectors. It is a real shame that one of the world’s best destinations, already glimpsing a prosperous economic movement and the certainty of important operations, is not supported by a climate of confidence and security on a political level, with regard to attracting foreign investment. This moment of progression can be seen with the return of a European Golf Circuit competition to Sotogrande, namely, the Spanish Open coming to Real Club Valderrama, the appetiser for a future golfing event on the European Tour being held at the prestigious course. In this regard, it is worth mentioning the golfing sector as well as other highly important events that will take place this

year in Sotogrande. They include the J80 World Sailing Championship, the 2016 Atlantic Gate Rally Regatta and of course the great spectacle of polo that kick-starts spring, and bodes for another memorable summer, with many other activities. We are confident that all of the fluctuations on a national level, previously referred to, will not be an obstacle for the interests of our area and the significant work carried out by the different administrations. Much of this work is crucially important: regeneration and good maintenance of beaches and their access points; looking after road connections with strategic areas. In this edition there is a report referring to the state of deterioration of the A-2100 road, known as Las Arenillas road, which is one of the busiest connection points linking Sotogrande to other towns in the province. Refurbishment work on streets, road surfacing plans, the enhancement of public areas… All of these details, from the biggest to the smallest, forms part of the important balance needed for the development and growth of Sotogrande as a destination. La escasa visibilidad en algunos puntos, un problema para el tráﬁco en el Valle del Guadiaro ✑ Manuel Gil

Hay varios puntos en el Valle del Guadiaro, algunos de ellos de gran tránsito de vehículos diariamente, en el que la escasa visibilidad (en uno de ellos nula) diﬁculta enormemente la conducción y puede llegar a ocasionar algún desafortunado incidente al volante. En esta ocasión, este medio se hace eco de dos. Por un lado, el acceso a la vía de servicio sur de Pueblo Nuevo (la de Sotomarket), en la incorporación a la carretera desde la salida de los aparca-

mientos de los dos grandes puntos comerciales del área. En éste, además de la poca visibilidad habitual, un problema de hace ya algunos años, se añade el mal estado de conservación del espejo que sirve de ayuda a los conductores a la hora de incorporarse. Su estado de dejadez y de mantenmiento diﬁculta aún más la incorporación y es un punto muy transitado y propicio para percances de vehículos. El otro, a la salida/entrada del Puerto de Sotogrande des-

de Torreguadiaro, el espejo que ayudaba en la visibilidad respecto a los vehículos que bajan al túnel procedentes de Torreguadiaro (en el mismo orden a los que salen del Puerto o a de los aparcamientos de la playa), hacen igualmente complicado la visibilidad y previsión de la llegada de vehículos. Sin duda, dos cuestiones que requieren de su pronta solución para evitar algún mal mayor que aún, afortunadamente, no se ha producido.

A. informó de la donación del total de la recaudación generada por parta de la pista de patinaje que estuvo en funcionamiento las pasadas navidades en la zona de La Marina, en el Puerto de Sotogrande, íntegramente a la Asociación Hogar Betania de La Línea. La cifra ronda los 8.000 euros. “Finalizó la Navidad y con ella todas las actividades que pusimos en marcha en Sotogrande. Entre ellas, la favorita, la pista de patinaje que no solamente cumplió con el objetivo de divertir a niños y mayores, si no

All the funds will go the Betania Housing Association in La Línea. The sum is close to 8,000 euros. “Christmas ended and along with it so did all of the activities that we had set up in Sotogrande. Of them, the favourite was the skating rink that not only fulfilled its objective of entertaining the children, but also raised money through the sale of tickets. This amounted to about 8,000 euros that will be used to set up a project at the Betania Association through The Kindred Project, in or-

der to help the children most in need within the area”, stated the company. The Kindred Project, an NGO led by pupils of Sotogrande International School in Sotogrande has been collaborating on a project with the Betania Association since 2012; it is a non-profit organization set up in 1992 in La Línea, and its mission is to assist people that do not have a home, families and those at risk of social exclusion and to carry out social projects. “Thanks to all of you and the great reception of our ice skating rink it has been possible to launch this great project that will support those most in need”, outlined the Sotogrande entity.

Se incautan 850 kilos de hachis entre el Puerto de Sotogrande y Punta Carbonera ✑ Redacción

El servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera de la Agencia Tributaria inform que en la madrugada de este martes incautó más de 850 kilos de hachís que eran transportados en embarcaciones semirrígidas, que también fueron intervenidas, entre punta Carbonera y el Puerto de Sotogrande. Las actuaciones que llevaron a esta aprehensión se iniciaron cuando los agentes del Servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera a bordo del helicóptero ‘Argos I’ divisaron una embarcación que se disponía a alijar una importante cantidad de droga. Concretamente, el punto de desembarco se hallaba entre punta Carbonera y el puerto deportivo de Sotogrande. En dicho punto, se detectó la presencia en la playa de un nutrido grupo de personas con dos vehículos tipo todoterreno aguardando la llegada de la embarcación. La aeronave descendió hacia el objetivo tras observar cómo se había cargado droga en uno de los

La Guardia Civil recupera en la Sierra del Arca cuatro vehículos robados La Guardia Civil de la Comandancia de Algeciras recuperó cuatro vehículos sustraídos, de alta gama, encontrados en la zona de la Sierra del Arca. La actuación tuvo lugar cuando una patrulla del Puesto Principal de San Roque realizaba servicio en prevención de la delincuencia por la zona de la Sierra del Arca (t.m. San Roque), detectaron oculto entre los arbustos del lateral de un carril lo que parecía ser un vehículo. Se aproximaron por una cancela que accedía al carril, comprobando como había ocultos un total de cuatro vehículos, todos marca Toyota Land Cruiser. Al cotejar las matrículas con la base de datos informática, comprobaron como habían sido sustraídos en las localidades de Málaga, Mijas, Torremolinos y Fuengirola durante el transcurso del presente mes de enero.

Sí resultaron intervenidos los dos vehículos, uno con matrícula británica de Gibraltar y el otro con matrícula española, ambos presuntamente robados. En uno de ellos se habían cargado 26 fardos de arpillera con hachís, con un peso aproximado de 850 kilogramos.

La Guardia Civil mantiene una investigación abierta para el esclarecimiento de los hechos y detención de los autores. De los hechos se instruyen las correspondientes diligencias que en unión de los vehículos recuperados, fueron puestos a disposición judicial.

More officials from the Customs Surveillance Unit came to the area immediately in order to strengthen the operation, and this included a raid of the area, in search of those who had participated

in the smuggling. However, oﬃcials were unable to make any arrests. Nevertheless, the two vehicles were seized, one of which had a British registration number from Gibraltar, and another with a Spanish number plate, both of which are suspected to be stolen. In one of the vehicles 26 bundles of hashish in sackcloth has been loaded, and the stash weighed approximately 850 kilograms.

Guardia Civil recovers four stolen vehicles in Sierra del Arca The Guardia Civil from the Algeciras Main Command Unit recovered four high-range vehicles found in the Sierra del Arca area. The operation took place when a patrol from the San Roque Main Unit carrying out crime prevention work in the Sierra del Arca area (municipality of San Roque), detected what appeared to be a vehicle hidden in bushes at the side of a road. They moved in through a gate leading to the area, and found that there were a total of four hidden vehicles, all Toyota Land Cruisers. When they checked the license plates in a computerised data base, they found that the vehicles had been stolen in Málaga, Mijas, Torremolinos and Fuengirola during January. En septiembre de 2016 el séptimo torneo Lawyers Polo tendrá lugar en Sotogrande, La asociación ha elegido a Santa Maria Polo Club, para un evento que engloba polo y derechoa; pilares principales en los que se basa Lawyers Polo. Esta entidad, creada en 2008, tiene como objetivo reunir a abogados polistas de todo el mundo a fin de compartir, una vez al año, una semana de polo, intercambio de ideas y experiencias profesionales en los más espectaculares clubes de polo del mundo. Actualmente, Lawyers Polo Association está compuesto por más de 350 abogados polistas, quienes comparten la profesión de abogado y la pasión por el polo y los caballos. Seis equipos de polo integrados por abogados polistas in-

ternacionales participarán en Lawyers Polo 2016. This entity, created in 2008, is aimed at bringing together polo playing lawyers from around the world in order to enjoy a week of polo once a year together, and exchange professional ideas and experiences at the world’s most spectacular polo clubs. Currently, Lawyers Polo Association is comprised by more than 350 polo lawyers, who all share a profession in the legal sector with a love of polo and horses. Six polo teams formed by international polo playing lawyers will participate in the 2016 Lawyers Polo event. Junto con estos últimos ejemplares a plantar se habrá aumentado el arbolado con más de 300 ejemplares repartidos por toda la urbanización, actuando fundamentalmente en las avenidas principales como avenida Paniagua, Los Cor-

More than sixty trees in total will be planted. This work is part of a program that the Entity has been carrying out since 2014 with the aim of increasing and enriching roadside vegetation

in the resort of Sotogrande and getting rid of specimens that are not healthy, or ﬁxing areas with unsuitable tree density levels. Following the latest planting work, the number of trees will have increased by more than 300, with specimens spread around the resort, and work mainly carried out on the main avenues such as Avenida Paniagua, Los Corti-

jos and Almenara. The crucial aim of this work is to gradually strengthen Sotogrande’s wealth of plants, as one the resort’s many additional assets.

Mantenimiento e imagen de las playas, una cuestión capital en Sotogrande

En esta edición de El Periódico de Sotogrande hemos llevado a cabo por primera vez en este año 2016, la sección de ‘Desayunos Informativos’, orientada a breves coloquios con diferentes personalidades y de ámbitos relevantes en Sotogrande para poner en común asuntos de interés en el día a día de la Urbanización para la puesta en conjunto de conclusiones y reﬂexiones de interés.

Otro de los temas a tener en cuenta y en el que coinciden ambos representantes es en la necesidad de acometer mejoras en el acceso a la playa de Guadalquitón desde la Urbanización. Uno de los pocos puntos, en la actualidad, que no presenta un eﬁciente estado de mantenimiento y en el que habría incidir para adecentar su imagen. Se trata del acceso natural a la playa y no cuenta con las mejores prestaciones para ello. Se extrajo que debe convertirse en voluntad de todas las partes implicadas en éste área, adecentar correctamente esta zona para mostrar una imagen acorde a los niveles de la Urbanización.

En esta ocasión, como tema central, se ha centrado en la temática de las playas de la zona. Para ello, en la misma mesa, hemos sentado a Sergio Sánchez, gerente de la Entidad Urbanística de Conservación Parques de Sotogrande, y a Óscar Ledesma, teniente de alcalde y delegado del Valle del Guadiaro del Consistorio de San Roque. Un productivo encuentro en el que se han desgranado varios de los asuntos más relevantes en este sentido y los planes a corto y medio plazo en la mejora de las playas. Como uno de los principales puntos, tras la ﬁnalización del segundo de los espigones, dentro del gran proyecto para la recuperación y regeneración de la playa de Sotogrande, el siguiente paso se centra en realizar el aporte de arena necesario para que cobre totalmente sentido el proyecto y pueda producirse esa recuperación total de la playa. Una vez ﬁnalizada la construcción de ambos espigones (el sur y más recientemente, el norte); el aporte de arena pasa por ser una prioridad. Para ello se trabaja, según explicaron, en la asignación por parte de la Demarcación de Costas, que pertenece al Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, de un aporte de arena para la playa. El cuál no llegó a producirse durante el pasado verano y que es completamente necesario para este curso. Según detallaron, éste debería producirse sobre el mes de

mayo y por ello, tanto desde el Ayuntamiento como desde la Entidad, y el resto de entidades involucradas en el proyecto se está trabajando en esta dirección. Para conseguir dicho aporte y aparecer dentro del plan de playas de la Demarcación de Costas, que depende del Estado central. En otro sentido, se adelantó que por parte del Consistorio sanroqueño que ya se trabaja en un programa para las playas del municipio para que cuenten lo antes posible (previsiblemente para Semana Santa o algo después) con el sistema de balizas operativo y otros servicios, tales como: duchas, módulos, etc. Una acción que se adelantará respecto a años anteriores, principalmente motivado por la alta aﬂuencia de personas a las playas ya en los

También, se abordó sobre la posibilidad, en relación una propuesta por parte de la Entidad de Conservación, de revestir y arropar de vegetación el perímetro de la depuradora en esta zona de la playa. Algo que permitiría tanto una razonable mejoría a nivel visual, como un ﬁltro importante en referencia a los olores. También se detalló que actualmente la Entidad trabaja en la adecuación del arcén y la posibilidad de instalar diferentes señalizaciones de tráﬁco que hagan más cómodo el acceso para peatones. Un más que fructífero y productivo encuentro, quedando asegurada su repetición en ediciones posteriores de esta sección del periódico con otros temas estratégicos para la Urbanización; en el que ambos representantes dieron muestras de su disposición y colaboración conjunta, tanto de las dos instituciones entre sí como con el conjunto de entidades que tienen un papel protagonista en Sotogrande, en continuar trabajando por el desarrollo y buen funcionamiento de la Urbanización y su entorno.

Maintenance and the appearance of beaches, a key issue in Sotogrande In this edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande we have carried out the “Information Breakfasts” section for the first time in 2016. They consist of a series of talks from different figures from important sectors in Sotogrande with the aim of exchanging ideas about interesting matters in the day to day life of the Resort, in order to share conclusions and interesting ideas. On this occasion, the central issue focused on the beaches in the area. For this purpose, we sat down with Sergio Sánchez, manager of the Urban Conservation Entity for Parks in Sotogrande, and Óscar Ledesma, deputy mayor and delegate for Valle del Guadiaro in the council of San Roque. This was a productive meeting where several of the most important matters relating to this area were discussed, along with short and medium term plans for beach improvements. One of the main points, following the conclusion of the second breakwater, as part of the big project to recover and regenerate Sotogrande beach, the following step focuses on bringing the necessary sand so that the project is fully completed and the total recovery of the beach can take place. Now that the construction of both breakwaters has finished (the south one, and more recently the north one); the provision of sand is a priority.

To achieve that, as explained, work is being carried out by the Directorate General for Coasts that belongs to the Ministry of the Environment, to provide sand for the beach. This did not happen last summer and it is completely necessary this year. As the speakers outlined, this should take place in May and there, the Council as well as the Entity, and the remaining entities involved in the project are working to make it happen, i.e. to obtain the sand and to appear in the beach plan of the Directorate General for Coasts, which depends on the central government. On the other hand, it was revealed that the Council of San Roque is already working on a program for the municipality’s beaches so that as soon as possible (planned for Holy Week or soon after) they can have a buoy system operating and other services, such as: showers, changing rooms, etc. This action will be brought forward in relation to previous years, mainly due to the high number of people already on the beaches in May and June (even sometimes during April). Another of the issues to bear in mind and that both representatives agree on, is the need to carry out improvement work on the access to Guadalquitón beach from the resort. This is one of the few points that are not currently well maintained and action

must be taken to improve its image. This is the natural access point to the beach and it does not have the best facilities for this purpose. All the involved partied coincided that this must become a key aim for this area, to correctly improve the zone in order to have an image that is in up to the standards of the Resort. There was also agreement regarding the possibility of a proposal from the Conservation Entity to cover the perimeter area around the purifier in his area of the beach with vegetation. This would allow for a significant improvement in terms of appearance, and act as a good filter for smells. Details were also revealed regarding the fact that the Entity is also working to improve the hard shoulder and looking at the possibility of installing different traffic signs that make access more convenient for pedestrians. This was a very fruitful and productive meeting, and it will surely be repeated in future editions of this section of the newspaper with other strategic issues for the Resort. Both representatives showed that they were ready and willing to work together, between both institutions as well as with all of the entities that have a key role in Sotogrande, in order to continue the development and good functioning of the Resort and its surrounding area.

Operarios municipales realizan trabajos de reparación y limpieza en la Laguna de Torreguadiaro

Una quincena de operarios han realizado desde hace unos días un plan de choque para la reparación y limpieza de la Laguna de Torreguadiaro. El delegado de Obras y Servicios, José Antonio Rojas, supervisó las obras en la zona y comprobó el resultado de los trabajos ejecutados. “Con las limitaciones que nos impone la Junta de Andalucía, se ha procedido a desbrozar manualmente todo el perímetro de las pasarelas de madera, así como los alrededores de las casetas de avistamiento de aves existente en la zona”, explicó Rojas. Además, personal de limpieza ha retirado basura y maleza tanto de la zona de pasarela como de la zona de

playa cercana a la Laguna, aunque sin llegar a entrar en la misma, tal y como indica la normativa de protección medioamenbiental. Por último, se procedió a la reparación y sustitución de tramos de la pasarela, que o bien habían desaparecido por actos vandálicos, bien se encuentran defectuosos. En estos trabajos participaron personal de Obras y Servicios, y las empresas municipales Emadesa y Amanecer. La Laguna de Torreguadiaro está localizada entre el Puerto Deportivo Sotogrande y la pedanía de Torreguadiaro. Junto al Estuario del Rio Guadiaro, ambas zonas naturales son humedales de gran importancia para muchas es-

pecies de aves y lugares de observación excelentes para los ornitógos interesados en el Estrecho de Gibraltar como ruta de migración entre Europa y África. En la actualidad, al igual que el Estuario, cuenta con una ruta de pasarelas, paneles informativos y observatorio de aves. El Paseo Marítimo, con esta zona natural y las dos torres vigías contiguas del siglo XVI son una de los rincones más espectaculares del término municipal.

Municipal operators carry out repair and cleaning work at Torreguadiaro Lagoon For a few days now, fifteen operators have been carrying out a shock repair and cleaning program on Torreguadiaro Lagoon. The councillor for Public Works and Services, José Antonio Rojas, supervised the work in the area and checked the results of work carried out. “With the limits imposed by the Regional Government of Andalusia, work went ahead to manually clear up all of the perimeter area of the wooden walkways, as well as the areas around the bird watching huts in the area”, explained Rojas. Also, cleaning staff removed waste and scrubs from the boardwalk area as well as from the beach area close to the lagoon, although without going into the lagoon itself, as outlined in environmental protection guidelines. Lastly, repair and replacement work was carried out on stretches of the walkways that

had either disappeared due to vandalism or which had defects. The work was carried out by staff from the Publics Works and Services department, and the municipal companies Emadesa and Amanecer. Torreguadiaro Lagoon is located between Sotogrande Marina and the hamlet of Torreguadiaro. Next to the Guadiaro River Estuary, both natural areas are wetlands of great importance for lots of bird species. They are excellent observation spots for budding ornithologists in the Strait of Gibraltar as they are a migration route between Europe and Africa. Currently, just like the Estuary, the lagoon has a boardwalk route, information panels, and a bird observatory. The Seafront Promenade, with this natural area and the two adjacent lookout towers from the 16th century, are one of the most spectacular areas in the municipality.

Real Club Valderrama Open de España-Fundación Sergio García. Ése es el nombre con el que toma forma como torneo el regreso del Circuito Europeo de Golf a Sotogrande, concretamente al Real Club Valderrama. Una extraordinaria noticia para Sotogrande y todo su entorno a nivel deportivo, económico y social. Tras varios meses, incluso años, especulando con la posibilidad o la posible fecha para la vuelta del Tour Europeo a un mítico trazado como el de Valderrama, finalmente, se ha concretado en este inicio 2016, con el Open de España que se celebrará del 14 al 17 de abril. Una apuesta que supone otras línea más en la historia del distinguido campo que no acogía un evento de tales características desde el año 2011 con el último Andalucía Masters. Que por cierto, ganó el propio Sergio García. Este proyecto nace de la unión de tres elementos muy relevantes. Por un lado, la Real Federación Española de

Golf y su compromiso por celebrar una cita del Tour Europeo en suelo nacional; Real Club Valderrama y su deseo por traer a la zona un evento deportivo de alto nivel; y por último, como gran anfitrión de la cita, el castellonense Sergio García con su Fundación. Una suma a la que poco se le puede resistir y de la que ha nacido este extraordinario Open de España.

Será la primera ocasión en la que el legendario recorrido en Sotogrande albergue el Abierto de España, cuya historia data de 1912, año en que se disputó la edición inaugural en el Polo G.C. de Madrid. Desde 1972, el Open de España ha sido una de las citas imprescindibles del calendario del Tour Europeo, figurando en su palmarés ilustres nombres de la historia de este deporte. Real Club Valderrama Spanish Open – Sergio García Foundation. That is the name of the tournament that sees the European Golf Circuit return to Sotogrande, specifically, to Real Club Valderrama. This is extraordinary news for Sotogrande and its entire sporting, economic and social environment. Following several months, even years, of speculation regarding a possible date for a return of the European Tour to a mythical course such as Valderrama, the date has been set for the start of 2016, with the Spanish Open, to be held from 14 to 17 April. This is

an event that will write another line in the history of this distinguished course that has not hosted an event of such characteristics since 2011 with the last Andalucía Masters, which was won by none other than Sergio García. This project has emerged from the collaboration of three very important parties. It will be the first time that the legendary Sotogrande course has hosted the Spanish Open, whose history dates back to 1912, the year when the opening edition took place at Polo G.C in Madrid. Since 1972, the Spanish Open has been one of the essential events on

the European Tour calendar, and its list of winners features illustrious names from the history of the sport. The victors of great international tournaments such as Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo, Padraig Harrington, Bernhard Langer, Arnold Palmer and Charl Schwartzel; European number ones such as Robert Karlsson and Colin Montgomerie; and four Spaniards in addition to Ballesteros, have all lifted the trophy since 1972: Antonio Garrido (1972), Álvaro Quirós (2010), Miguel Ángel Jiménez (2014) and Sergio García himself, in 2002. The tournament has prize money totalling two million euros and it will be the first event of 2016 to be held on European soil. Graeme McDowell in 2010 and Sergio García the following year, won the Andalucía Valderrama Masters, a tournament that counts towards the Race to Dubai, and those were last two Tour competitions to take place at the impressive course in Sotogrande. Valderrama hosted the Volvo Masters (the grand final of the European Circuit) from 1988 to 1996, and then again from 2002 to 2008. La delegada de Cultura y Turismo, Dolores Marchena, realize en las instalaciones de Santa María Polo Club el balance de la participación de San Roque en la Feria Internacional de Turismo de Madrid (Fitur) y el proyecto de “hermanamiento” en materia equina con la vecina población de Jerez de la Frontera. En la reunión ha esta presente el director de Santa María Polo, Oscar Nieto, y el asesor de alcaldía, Juan Roca. La edil señaló que además de los contactos turísticos en Fitur “a Santa María Polo se le une el proyecto de colaboración en materia equina con Jerez”. La edil desveló que “fundamen-

talmente vamos a apoyarnos mutuamente para difundir los eventos relacionados con el mundo del caballo en ambas ciudades, para apoyar el turismo deportivo”. La asociación protectora de felinos Soto Cats Rescue impartió en el Colegio Internacional de Sotogrande una charla a un grupo de alumnos para concienciar sobre los derechos de los animales y, especialmente, contra el abandono de los mismos, particularmente de gatos. Al acto asistió el teniente de alcalde del Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, el concejal de Juventud y Participación Ciudadana, David Ramos, el presidente de Soto Cats Rescue, Guillermo Páez, Anabel Marín, miembro de la Asociación de Veterinarios por la Abolición de la Tauromaquia y el Maltrato Animal (AVATMA); y la escritora Adelaide Godwin, autora del libro “Landing on my feet”, protagonizado por un gato. Guillermo Páez señaló que “Soto Cats Rescue nació hace ocho meses con el ﬁn de trabajar por el respeto animal. España es el país de Europa que tiene más animales abandonados, con 250.000 al año. Nos dedicamos a rescatar los animales enfermos, esterilizar para controlar la población felina y, en este caso, para dar charlas a las nuevas generaciones y lograr en el futuro una conciencia de respeto animal”. “Queremos sensibilizar a los chavales -continuó- en que los animales merecen respeto, e instarles a que adopten, cuiden y ayuden en este sentido”. En cuanto a Anabel Marín, explicó a los niños y niñas el método CES (castrar, esterilizar y soltar), que consiste en mantener colonias de gatos callejeros controlados de manera que no proliferen pero puedan vivir en libertad y sanos. Con la venta de los libros de Adelaide Godwin, por su parte, se contribuye a esta labor.

Soto Cats Rescue encourages animal care with a talk at Sotogrande International School

The cat protection association Soto Cats Rescue gave a talk to a group of pupils at Sotogrande International School in order to raise awareness about the rights of animals, with an emphasis on abandonment, particularly cats. The event was attended by the deputy mayor of Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, the councillor for Youth and Civic Participation, David Ramos, the president of Soto Cats Rescue, Guillermo Páez, Anabel Marín, a member of the Veterinary Association for the Abolition of Bullﬁghting and Animal Cruelty (AVATMA); and the writer Adelaide Godwin, author of the book “Landing on my feet”, which has a cat as its main character. Gullermo Páez stated that “Soto Cats Rescue was set up eight months ago in order to work to support animal rights. Spain is the European country with the highest number of abandoned animals, around 250,000 per year. We specialize in rescuing sick animals, carrying out sterilization in order to control the cat population, and in this case, to give talks to the new generation to ensure that in future we can have awareness of respect for animals”. “We want young people to be aware that animals deserve respect, in this regard, we want to encourage them to adopt, care for and help animals”, he continued. Anabel Marín explained the castration, sterilization and freeing method to children. It consists of controlling colonies of street cats in such a way that they do not proliferate but can live freely and healthily. Inversión y Gobierno La situación política que hemos vivido tras las últimas elecciones generales ha suscitado inquietud en el mundo económico, dentro y fuera de nuestras fronteras, algo que afecta en particular a Sotogrande, que es un mercado atractivo para inversores de España y de toda Europa, especialmente en el sector inmobiliario.

Aclaremos en primer lugar que lo que está sucediendo en la política española sólo es insólito aquí, porque estamos acostumbrados a tener gobiernos monocolores con amplias mayorías parlamentarias, pero en realidad en Europa es más la excepción que la regla. En muchos países europeos el Ejecutivo está formado por alianzas y coaliciones de varios grupos políticos, sin que ello equivalga necesariamente al caos.

Se dirá que, en cualquier caso, la incertidumbre política en España, derivada de la ausencia, por primera vez, de mayorías claras, tiene un impacto económico negativo, al retrasar las inversiones nacionales y extranjeras. Sin embargo, al revés de lo que suele pensarse, no es la incertidumbre lo peor que puede suceder desde el punto de vista económico. Lo peor es la certidumbre de un Gobierno malo. Y la preocupación de las últimas semanas ha ido por ese camino. No es que los inversores simplemente no supieran lo que iba a pasar: eso no lo sabe nadie. Lo que animaba el nerviosismo en los mercados ha sido la incógnita sobre las posibilidades de que haya un nuevo Gobierno que sea abiertamente hostil al ahorro y la inversión, es decir, un Gobierno que suba los impuestos, aún

más, que incremente las regulaciones y costes derivados de la intervención política y legislativa, aún más, y que hostigue por tanto al inversor nacional y extranjero, aún más. En la medida en que esas posibilidades se concreten, la confianza de los inversores, lógicamente, se retraerá. Ahora bien, no olvidemos que estamos en Europa, y que sus reglas de funcionamiento limitan el grado de locura de las políticas económicas, e incluso han hecho volver al redil de la moderación a políticos considerados en su día prácticamente anti-sistema, como los populistas griegos. Si ese alejamiento de los extremos más antiliberales se reproduce en España, el escenario podría ser mejor de lo que muchos anticipan en la actualidad.

That is to say, a government that increases taxes even more, and increases regulations and costs deriving from political and legislative intervention, and therefore bothers national and foreign investors even more. In so much as these measures become more specific realities, the confidence of investors will decline as you would logically expect.

The political situation that we have experienced following the last general election has led to worries in the economic world, within Spain and outside it. This is something that particularly affects Sotogrande, which is an attractive market for investments in Spain and all of Europe, especially in the property sector. Firstly, we should clarify that what is happening in Spanish politics is only unusual here, because we are used to having single party governments with large parliamentary majorities. However, the reality in Europe is that this is more the exception than the rule. In lots of European countries the government is comprised of alliances and coalitions of various political groups without that necessarily leading to chaos. In any case, it will be said that the political uncertainty in Spain, deriving from the absence, for the first time, of clear majorities, has a negative economic impact, by delaying national and foreign investments. However, as opposed to what is normally thought,

uncertainty is not the worst thing that can happen from an economic point of view. The worst thing is the certainty of a bad government. The worry of the last few weeks has been related to that. It is not that

However, we should not forget about the fact that we are in Europe, and that its functioning rules limit the degree of madness of economic policies. Some politicians that were once considered practically anti-system, such as the Greek populists, have even returned to the fold. If this distancing from more anti-liberal extremes also takes place in Spain, then the scenario could be a lot better than what many currently expect.

La mejora de la carretera de Las Arenillas, una asignatura pendiente en la zona

• La A-2100, que une Sotogrande y Castellar, presenta un importante estado de deterioro en varios tramos de la calzada. • Se trata de una de las arterias de circulación más transitadas a diario por los muchos trabajadores que se desplazan entre ambos núcleos. • Los Consistorios de San Roque y Castellar ya han preguntado a la Junta de Andalucía sobre un posible plan de actuación. • El máximo organismo autonómico afirma que en la actualidad no existe una partida presupuestaria para ello. 1 Manuel Gil

La vía A-2100, conocida comúnmente como la Carretera de Las Arenillas, es sin lugar a dudas una de las arterías de comunicación más transitadas diariamente por muchos conductores de la zona. Siendo el principal punto de conexión entre Sotogrande y Castellar (además de un acceso natural hacia Jimena y otros puntos del Campo de Gibraltar ), es frecuentada por los muchos trabajadores que se desplazan entre ambos núcleos de población de manera habitual. Es notable y evidente el preocupante estado de dejadez y deterioro que sufre la calzada, con pronunciadas zonas bacheadas, agrietadas y con deficitarios arcenes y vías de escapatoria. Caso parecido al que sufre también el carril bici que acompaña a la vía entre estos dos municipios. Si bien, partiendo desde Sotogrande, el estado de la carretera desde el Centro Comercial Mar y Sol hasta la rotonda del Colegio Internacional

de Sotogrande su estado es bueno, los siguientes y kilómetros y de manera especial al alcanzar el Término Municipal de Castellar, la vía se deteriora considerablemente. Ilustran este Informe un buen número de imágenes tomadas estos últimos días y que prueban el mal estado de la carretera.

La vía que une los municipios de Castellar y San Roque, discurre por 15 kilómetros de montaña en los que en la actualidad son considerables los desniveles y socavones. Del mismo modo que el carril bici, que acompaña la carretera autonómica presenta un gran número de imperfecciones

en su recorrido y que dificultan enormemente su uso por los ciclo turistas. Precisamente, Juan Casanova, alcalde de la vecina localidad de Castellar, demandó a la delegada territorial de Fomento y Vivienda, la exalcaldesa de La Línea Gemma Araujo, una reunión para bordar la ne-

cesidad de mejorar las condiciones de esta carretera. “La vía es tránsito habitual de numerosos vecinos y vecinas de este municipio que trabajan en la costa, Sotogrande y otros puntos de dicha zona; son muchas las demandas que he recibido de manera reiterada por parte de vecinos afec-

tados reclamando que se actúe sobre la carretera de Las Arenillas”, aseguró Casanova. Siendo éste un caso similar, a la inversa. El primer edil de Castellar puntualizó que ya durante el pasado otoño, concretamente en el mes de octubre, ya mantuvo una reunión con este tema como eje principal y que continuará insistiendo a la Junta de Andalucía para que acuerde una partida presupuestaria necesaria para acometer estos trabajos de mejora. Por su parte, desde el Consistorio de San Roque también se ha trasladado a la autoridad autonómica la necesidad de mejorar esta vía. El Periódico de Sotogrande se ha puesto en contacto con al Delegación Territorial de Fomento y Vivienda en Cádiz, que comanda Gemma Araujo para preguntar por esta cuestión que afecta a no pocos ciudadanos. Ya sea por labores profesionales, comerciales o de ocio, transitan de manera habitual por la A-2100, siendo necesaria una intervención en la misma. Desde la delegación regional explicaron a este medio que en la actualidad no se tiene previsto realizar ninguna actuación en la vía, ya que no se tiene presupuestada ninguna partida para ello. Aunque aseguran que su responsable [Gemma Araujo] se ha comprometido con el alcalde de San Roque (y así se lo hará saber al primer edil de Castellar ], a desbrozar y realizar una pequeña reparación

del carril bici para su mantenimiento. Una acción circunstancial, hasta que no exista “disponibilidad económica”. Recordar el dato de que allá por el año 2010 se tuvieron que realizar en dicha vía, por parte de la Junta de Andalucía, unos trabajos de adecuación de la calzada después de que se viera gravemente afectada por las lluvias registradas en el mes de febrero del mismo año. En aquel momento derivó el cierre de la vía durante el periodo de realización de los trabajos (unos dos meses aproximadamente), debido a la apertura de un enorme socavón de varios metros de profundidad que destruyó la calzada de arcén a arcén en un tramo. Entonces, se procedió a la realización de un nuevo drenaje, restitución del firme y del carril bici (en concreto en los puntos kilométricos 9,5 y 10,1). Dicha actuación supuso un desembolso de más de 340.000 euros por parte de la Junta de Andalucía. Lo saludable, por parte de la administración pertinente, sería no tener que llegar a estos extremos realizar una labor preventiva sobre el terreno y evitar así mayores consecuencias cuando aún se puede actuar con antelación a cualquier acontecimiento desafortunado.

Improvements to Las Arenillas road, an important outstanding issue in area • Several stretches of the A-2100, which links Sotogrande and Castellar, are in an advanced stage of deterioration. • This is one of the main arterial roads used on a daily basis by lots of commuters travelling between both towns. • The Town Halls of San Roque and Castellar have already asked the Regional Government of Andalusia about a possible plan of action. • The leading regional body states that there is currently no budget money set aside for the work.

The A-2100 road, known popularly as Las Arenillas Road, is undoubtedly one of the most used arterial roads used on a daily basis by many drivers in the area. As the main connection point between Sotogrande and Castellar (as well as a natural point of access to Jimena and other points in Campo de Gibraltar), it is frequented by many workers moving between both population centres frequently. The worrying state of neglect and deterioration evident on the road is notable and evident, with a significant amount of pot holes and cracks in certain areas and deficient hard shoulders and escape roads. There is a similar case with the bicycle route alongside the road between the two municipalities. While, when departing from Sotogrande, the state of the road from Mar y Sol Shopping Centre up until the roundabout at Sotogrande International School is good, with the following kilometres, particularly as you reach the Municipality of Castellar, the road deteriorates considerably. Specifically speaking, Juan Casanova, mayor of the neighbouring town of Castellar, called for a meeting with Gemma Araujo, the regional councillor for Development and Housing and former mayor of La Línea, in order to tackle the need for improved conditions on this road. “The road is used by several residents from this municipality that work on the coast, Sotogrande and in places within the area; I have received a lot of repeated complaints from

affected residents calling for action on Las Arenillas” road, stated Casanova. This is a similar case, the other way round. The mayor of Castellar specified that in autumn, October specifically, he held a meeting with focused on this issue. He says he will remain insistent with the Regional Government of Andalucía so that they agree to a budget required to carry out this improvement work. In turn, the Town Council of San Roque has also informed the autonomous authorities of the need to improve this road. The Periódico de Sotogrande has contacted the Regional Department of Development and Housing in Cádiz that is led by

Gemma Araujo in order to ask about this issue that affects a significant number of citizens. The regional department explained to the newspaper that it does not currently envisage carrying out any work on the work, as there are no funds in the budget for it. La Mancomunidad de Municipios entregó el 1 de febrero, con ocasión del Día de la Comarca, los galardones a entidades o personas distinguidas del Campo de Gibraltar, de los cuales tres recayeron en San Roque. Se trata del cantaor Canela de San Roque (recientemente fallecido), el futbolista Adolfo Aldana y Real Club Valderrama. El acto se convirtió en una reivindicación de la importancia del Campo de Gibraltar y de la necesidad de luchar juntos para conseguir mejoras imprescindibles. José Segovia Cortés, “José Canela”, recogió el Premio a la Labor Artística con el que se reconocía la trayectoria de medio siglo en el flamenco de su padre, Alejandro Segovia Camacho. A Adolfo Aldana le correspondió el Premio al Mérito en la Práctica Deportiva, mientras que al Real Club Valderrama (que recogió su director general, Javier Reviriego) se le reconoció con el Premio al Fomento del Turismo y la Sostenibilidad. Los otros galardonados fueron: el Banco de Alimentos del Campo de Gibraltar, que recogió su presidente, José Cabello,

Canela, Aldana and Valderrama receive the Association of Municipalities Award on Day of the Region To mark the Day of the Region, the Association of Municipalities handed out awards to distinguished people and entities from Campo de Gibraltar, and three of them went to San Roque. Specifically, the awards went to the (recently deceased) singer-songwriter Canela de San Roque, the footballer Adolfo Aldana and Real Club Valderrama. The event was a means of remembering the importance of Campo de Gibraltar and the need to fight together to obtain essential improvements. José Segovia Cortés, “José Canela”, collected the Prize for the Arts that recognized the contribution made by his father, Alejandro Segovia Camacho over fifty years to flamenco music. Adolfo Aldana was awarded the prize for Sporting Merit, while Real Club Valderrama was recognized with an Award for Encouraging Tourism and Sustainability and the prize was collected by its director general, Javier Reviriego. The other prize winners were: the Campo de Gibraltar Food Bank won the Prize for Social and Charity work, which was collected by its president, José Cabello; the Institute for Campo de Gibraltar Studies, won the Prize for Cultural Work which was collected by the Institute’s director, Ángel Sáez. The Port Authorities of Campo de Gibraltar won the Prize for Business Excellence, and the entity’s president Manuel Morón collected the award. The newspaper Europa Sur won the Prize for Communication in Campo de Gibraltar, and it was collected by its director Alberto Grimaldi. The first president of the Association of Municipalities, Rafael Palomino, obtained a special mention. José Canela said that it was a day of joy for his family,

but also of sadness, because the person being recognized was not here, someone for who “flamenco was his way of being and feeling, it was his language”. He added that “we are extremely proud of our father and the legacy he has left for the history of flamenco”. In turn, Adolfo Aldana stated that “other people that have been involved for a long time in disciplines such as athletics, volleyball and golf deserve this prize more than me. However, I am really proud to receive it. I studied in La Línea, I was born and grew up in San Roque, spent time in Algeciras, where I now give classes. I have always felt very proud when people talk about where I am from, and I have spread the name of San Roque throughout the rest of Spain”. Javier Reviriego explained that Club de Golf Valderrama “has always committed to excellence, it is a recognized brand in the world of golf, and also in the tourism sector. We have always promoted this area, by employing people from here as well as having local providers. As for sustainability, we are leaders in efficient energy, water management and the use of ecological products. We are European pioneers in this area because we were working on these issues long before the rest. We are also about to announce our return to the professional European Golf Circuit”. Jesús Mayoral, the spokesperson for the Independent Party in Valle del Guadiaro (PIVG) has criticised the municipal “neglect” and the state of “abandonment” of the fairground in Guadiaro. “The state of the fairground in Guadiaro, a unique space that is frequented by lots of locals, covering an area of 16,000 m2 is deplorable, there is complete neglect and lack of cleaning, and the area, a place that was created for all the residents and is used by them, is dilapidated”, outlined the leader. “The PIVG always said to Roca, when he was in charge, that the Guadiaro fairground, a strategic location, used and enjoyed by residents, should be like the Alameda in San

Roque and he was unable to achieve that because he spent his time on public relations rather than resolving the problems of residents or taking care of maintenance and cleaning”, stated Mayoral. Mayoral states that the “deterioration of the area is so bad that it is impossible to distinguish it from the countryside next to it, destroyed and full of scrubs”. “All they do is intensive cleaning every four or ﬁve months”, he added. The spokesperson of PIVG has called for “immediate” work to begin on “improvements as the PIVG is committed to ensuring that that all residents can make the most of this hub and that it has the appropriate level of maintenance that it deserves”.

The surfacing plan reaches Torreguadiaro and San Enrique following the improvements in Guadiaro The company contracted to carry out the Third Surfacing Plan is in Valle del Guadiaro improving a total of 13 streets. The end of work in Torreguadiaro and San Enrique over the coming days will mark the end of this municipal investment, with work having been carried out on 35 roads across all of the population centres. The Town Council states that the design of the Fourth Surfacing Plan is already being looked at, and a sum of 200,000 euros in the 2016 budget has been set aside for it. The mayor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, explained that “surfacing work has already been completed in Guadiaro, and over the coming days work will take place in Torreguadiaro and San Enrique. That will mark the end to projects throughout the municipality, a Third Surfacing Plan corresponding to 2015”. Óscar Ledesma, the councillor for Valle del Guadiaro, stated that “the Third Surfacing Plan

is already a reality in Valle del Guadiaro and we will soon begin the plan corresponding to 2016. In Valle del Guadiaro work is being carried out on thirteen streets, and on four speciﬁcally in Guadiaro, among them Calle Diamante, with previous work having been carried out in Pueblo Nuevo. Projects will also be carried out in Torreguadiaro, where work will be done on two streets, and subsequently in San Enrique with three streets”. He added that “This Government Team has also taken into account a request from residents, namely, the installation of two gutters on Calle Carretera. We have ﬁnally obtained authorization from the Regional Government of Andalucía and we will be carrying out the work over the coming days”, he concluded.

La CORA Era julio del año 2013 cuando escribí un artículo que bajo el título “la reforma administrativa” hablaba por primera vez de la CORA (acrónimo de Comisión para la reforma de las Administraciones Públicas). Esta Comisión se creaba para estudiar las competen1 Luis Babiano cias duplicadas, orgaAbogados / Lawyers nismos redundantes y Sotogrande la racionalización de los métodos de trabajo. Creo que casi nadie ha oído hablar de este organismo desde su fundación lo que dice muy poco de la capacidad de comunicación del actual gobierno. Me quedé muy sorprendido cuando asistí a una reunión en Madrid para la presentación del trabajo de la CORA dirigido por el director del ABC (reconocido periodista como todo el mundo sabe). Pues bien, este señor se quedó muy sorprendido por lo que significaba esta Comisión y lo que representaba su trabajo. Yo también me quedé muy sorprendido de que el director de uno de los periódicos más importantes de España no tuviera conocimiento de lo que significaba esta actuación de reforma administrativa. Hoy, casi tres años después, empezamos a recibir información del trabajo de reforma en las Administraciones públicas llevado a cabo siguiendo las directrices marcadas por el informe que en su día elaboró la Comisión. Con carácter general podemos señalar lo siguiente: Se han llevado a cabo 193 medidas de las propuestas en el informe inicial lo que supone el 87% de las mismas; se han suscrito 391 convenios con las comunidades autónomas y en 12 de las 17 Comunidades el grado de adhesión supera el 90% de las medidas que les afectan, en ocho de las mismas el porcentaje sobrepasa el 95%, en dos superan el 85% y en las

tres restantes se encuentran entre un 5º% y un 60%. Se han suprimido 2.348 entes públicos de los que 115 pertenecen al Estado, 797 a las comunidades autónomas y 1.436 a las entidades locales (ayuntamientos y diputaciones). Con todas estas medidas se han ahorrado un total de 33.937,5 millones de euros de los que 30.495 millones corresponden a las administraciones públicas y 3.442 millones a los ciudadanos. Con carácter singular, se pueden destacar las siguientes medidas: Planificación conjunta entre Estado y comunidades autónomas en materia de gestión de carreteras; Implantación de la historia clínica digital inter operable; Tramitación electrónica desde los centros sanitarios de los nacimientos; movilización de equipos y medios de actuación de las comunidades autónomas para atender situaciones de emergencia en otras comunidades autónomas; proyectos de reconocimiento mutuo de licencias de caza y pesca; ventanilla única aduanera y medidas estratégicas en materia de empleo público. En el balance ejecutivo de la CORA a febrero de 2016 se destaca especialmente la medida de la introducción de la ventanilla única aduanera. Es curioso cómo se tienen estudiados hasta los tiempos que las mercancías pasan en las aduanas considerando que la media de estancia en la aduana del 80% de las mercancías es de media hora mientras que el 20% restante, que precisa de controles, farmacia, sanidad, tecnología de doble uso, etcétera demora su estancia en aduana hasta dos días lo que supone un elevado coste económico para el operador (un contenedor en un puerto cuesta 100 € al día). Con la implantación como experiencia piloto en los puertos de Barcelona, Tenerife, Bilbao y Vigo de esta ventanilla única, se supone que existirá un ahorro de 500 millones de euros anuales para los operadores económicos. Otra de las medidas destacadas en el citado informe es la instalación del portal de la seguridad social a través del cual se puede obtener el documento acreditativo de aseguramiento, consultar la situación de beneficiario, solicitar la tarjeta sanitaria europea, consultar la posición global de la situación del pensionista, obtención de certificados de pensión, obtención

del certificado de no pensionista, información sobre la edad de jubilación según el periodo de cotización, solicitud de jubilación, etcétera. Actualmente 25,5 millones de ciudadanos disponen de informes clínicos en el sistema nacional de salud gracias a la implantación de la historia clínica digital inter operable. Las recetas ya son electrónicas en un 90% y sirven para distintas comunidades autónomas. Los centros sanitarios pueden tramitar electrónicamente los nacimientos y 3,5 millones de documentos sanitarios europeos han sido expedidos también electrónicamente. 1,9 millones de empleos han sido ofertados a través del portal único de empleo que atiende a todas las comunidades autónomas y principales agencias de colocación. Parece ser que se está consiguiendo terminar con las colas porque desde la puesta en marcha del servicio ha habido 41,5 millones de citas previas en el sistema público de empleo y 6,5 millones en las jefaturas provinciales de tráfico. La plataforma de intermediación de datos evita que los ciudadanos tengan que aportar certificados desde una comunidad autónoma a otra habiéndose realizado 54 millones de intercambios de estos datos. Destacar también el tablón edictal único mediante el cual se puso en funcionamiento una sección en el BOE para publicar en un único punto las notificaciones por comparecencia de todas las administraciones públicas. Y todo ello sin olvidar la conectividad en centros escolares con el objetivo de llevar banda ancha a todos los colegios de España. Para terminar, hay que destacar que el informe Global Innovation Index posiciona a España en el cuarto lugar mundial, junto a Japón y Estados Unidos, en prestación de servicios administrativos online. Este informe está elaborado por dos prestigiosas universidades norteamericanas y la Organización Mundial de Propiedad Industrial. Lamento haberles aburrido con tanto dato pero creía de justicia informar de todos los avances que se han producido en la reforma de la administración que nos ponen hoy en día a la cabeza de la administración electrónica.

The Commission for the Reform of Public Administrations (CORA) It was July 2013 when I wrote an article under the title of “administrative reform”. I talked for the first time about CORA (acronym for Commission for the Reform of Public Administrations). This Commission was created to study double roles, redundant organisms and the rationalisation of working methods. I think that almost nobody has heard of this organism since it was founded, which says very little about the current government’s capacity for communication. I was very surprised when I attended a meeting in Madrid for the presentation of CORA’s work led by the director of ABC (a renowned journalist as everyone knows). Well, this man was very surprised by what this Commission meant and what its work represented. I was also very surprised that the director of one of the most important newspapers in Spain was unaware of what this administrative reform work meant. Today, almost three years later, we are beginning to receive information about the reform work in public administrations following the guidelines outlined by the report that was created by the Commission back in the day. On a general level we can outline the following: 193 measures from the initial report have been carried out, this amounts to 87% of them; 391 agreements have been signed with the autonomous communities and in 12 of the 17 Communities the level of joining the measures affecting them surpasses 90%, in eight of them the percentage surpasses 95%, in two they surpass 85% and in the three remaining communities they are between 5% and 60%. 2,348 public entities have been eradicated of which 115 belong to the State, 797 to autonomous communities and 1436 to local entities (town councils and provincial councils). With all of these measures a total of 33,937.5 million euros

have been saved, of which 30,495 million correspond to public administrations and 3,442 million to the citizens. The following distinctive measures can be highlighted: Joint planning between State and autonomous communities on road management; the implementation of digital interoperable clinical histories; electronic processing by clinics of births; the mobilisation of equipment and resources of autonomous communities to attend emergencies in other autonomous communities; projects to mutually recognise hunting and fishing licenses; a single window system for customs and strategic measures for public employment. In the executive balance of CORA in February 2016 the measure to introduce the single window for customs stands out. It is curious how they have even studied the times that goods spend in customs considering that the average time spent in customs for 80% of goods is half an hour while the remaining 20%, which require checks, e.g. pharmaceuticals, health goods, dual-use technological goods, etc. are delayed in customs for up to two days which leads to high financial costs for the operator (a container in a port costs €100 per day). With the implementation of the pilot scheme of this single window system in the ports of Barcelona, Tenerife, Bilbao and Vigo, it is expected that there will be savings of 500 million euros a year for economic operators. Another of the measures that stands out in the aforementioned report is the installation of the social security portal through which it is possible to obtain accreditation documentation for insurance, consult the situation of the beneficiary, request the European health card, consulting the overall pension holder’s situation, obtain pension certificates, obtain non-pensioner certificates, see information about retirement age according to the tax paying period, request retirement, etc.

Currently, 25.5 million citizens have clinical reports on the national health system thanks to the implementation of interoperable digital clinical histories. 90% of prescriptions are now electronic and can be used for different autonomous communities. Health centres can electronically process births and 3.5 million European health documents have also been issued electronically. 1.9 million jobs have been provided through the single employment portal that serves all the main autonomous communities and the main employment agencies. It seems that the service is managing to end queues because since the service was set up there have been 41.5 million prior appointments on the public employment system and 6.5 million for the provincial traffic departments. The intermediary data platform prevents citizens from having to take certificates from one autonomous community to another, and there have been 54 million exchanges of data. It is also worth highlighting the single bulletin board through which a section of the Official State Bulletin was put into operation in order to publish the notices to appear for all the public administrations. A raíz de una serie de robos cometidos en el interior de vehículos , ocurridos entre los días 11 y 22 de diciembre del año pasado en la zona del cementerio de Guadiaro, la Guardia Civil del

Puesto Principal de Guadiaro estableció una investigación para la detención de los presuntos autores. Preciso que el ‘modus operandi’ era siempre el mismo. Actuaban de noche, fracturaban el bombín de la cerradura de los vehículos y se llevaban cuanto encontraban en el interior de los mismos. De las manifestaciones de testigos y por el visionado de las

cámaras de seguridad de la zona se identificó a los autores. Estos fueron localizados y detenidos cuando estaban en la vía pública del propio Guadiaro. De los hechos se instruyeron las correspondientes diligencias que en unión de los detenidos han sido puestos a disposición de la Autoridad Judicial y de Fiscalía de Menores.

El portavoz del Partido Independiente del Valle del Guadiaro (PIVG), Jesús Mayoral, criticó la “dejadez” municipal y el estado de “abandono” del recinto ferial de Guadiaro. “El estado en el que se encuentra el recinto ferial de Guadiaro, único espacio concurrido por los vecinos, con un área de 16.000 metros cuadrados es lamentable, la desidia y falta de limpieza es total pero también el deterioro del propio recinto siendo como es un lugar concurrido para todos los vecinos que con esa finalidad se hizo”, detalló el dirigente. “El recinto ferial de Guadiaro por el lugar estratégico y de

transito y disfrute de los vecinos, siempre se lo dijimos a Roca siendo responsable con el PIVG que debería estar como la Alameda de San Roque y fue incapaz porque se dedicaba a las relaciones públicas y no resolver los problemas de los vecinos ni al mantenimiento y limpieza”, aseguró Mayoral.. Mayoral alega que “deterioro es tal que no se diferencia del terreno rustico que tiene al lado, destrozado y lleno de matojos”. “Lo único que hacen es una limpieza de choque cada cuatro o cinco meses”, añadió. El portavoz del PIVG reclama “de inmediato” que comience

las “obras de adecentamiento que ya con el PIVG, estaban comprometidas para que este espacio neurálgico lo puedan aprovechar todos los vecinos y que tenga el mantenimiento adecuado que se merece”. Además preguntó por el proyecto de “electrificación y soterramiento” de toda la instalación y el “nuevo transformador para no tener que poner los famosos postes y ahorrar cableado, que estaba contemplado en un proyecto de 280.000 euros, que se obtuvo una subvención por una buena gestión del PIVG y que el alcalde Ruiz Boix, perdió por no ejecutarla”.

El Cristo de la Caña, imagen de la Semana Santa de 2016 El Santísimo Cristo de la Humildad y Paciencia, conocido como Cristo de la Caña, es el protagonista del Cartel Oficial de Semana Santa, que fue presentado en la Parroquia de Santa María Coronada. La exaltación del cartel corrió a cargo del cofrade sanroqueño Andrés Correro Silva. Al acto asistieron numerosos fieles y cofrades sanroqueños, así como autoridades municipales encabezadas por la teniente de alcalde Dolores Marchena, además de los miembros del Consejo Local de Hermandades y Cofradías, que está presidido por Juan Angulo. Un momento muy especial fue el homenaje que se rindió a José Quirós Andrades, ex hermano mayor de la Cofradía del Cristo de la Caña. También se entregaron las tapas de sus correspondientes pregones a José Ángel Ramírez (pregonero oficial 2016) y a Belén Martín Morillo (pregonera de la juventud cofrade 2016). Al finalizar el acto se entregaron ejemplares de la Revista Oficial de Semana Santa, que ha elaborado Multimedia, aunque las imágenes que la ilustran han sido tomadas por siete fotógrafos sanroqueños. La música corrió a cargo de la Banda de Música Armando Herrero, de Algeciras. El cartel, de forma apaisada, ha sido obra del artista sevillano José Carlos González Muñoz. Se trata de un dibujo a carboncillo de la cara del Cristo de la Caña, en el que se ha realizado un impresionante trabajo de luces y sombras. El pintor no pudo asistir al acto por motivos laborales.

El carnaval reinó en Guadiaro. Con fiesta de todos los colores, principalmente para los más pequeños, quienes disfrutaron de distintas actividades, como pasacalles y concursos de disfraces. En Guadiaro, el Carnaval se centró en la carpa situada junto al Campo de La Unión, donde también se instalaron varias atracciones para los niños y niñas. Comenzó la fiesta con un pasacalles con concurso de disfraces, en el que participaron numerosos pequeños. Educación Colegio Internacional Sotogrande Dejad que los niños jueguen... 1 Kelly Lewis-Code, psicóloga del SIS

La primera vez que vi el enorme patio del Colegio Internacional de Sotogrande, di por hecho que los Helicópteros Sanitarios tenían que aterrizar allí cada día. Había niños por todas partes: dando volteretas, escalando y lanzándose demasiado rápido para que fuera seguro. Me equivocaba. Lo que veo aquí cada día no es una recreación de la batalla de Waterloo sino el más valioso ejemplo de libertad, creatividad y risa jamás imaginado. Y todo esto se logra en un lugar en el que los niños, guiados por sus profesores, son los protagonistas del diseño evolutivo y la construcción del patio de recreo. En el Parque Jurásico, un rincón donde no pasa nada por mancharse, veo a los niños cavar en tierra de verdad, no arena de juego esterilizada. Cavan en cada recreo en busca de elusivos

objetos blancos: una garra de Velociraptor y un molar de Neanderthal. Hay un Hotel para bichos en el que los arqueólogos reubican con cuidado las criaturas reptantes que desentierran en las excavaciones; una zona de construcción en la que los arquitectos y los constructores colaboran para diseñar puentes y rascacielos con bloques gigantes de Jenga, y un escenario central en el que siempre puedes entretenerte con la futura Beyoncé. Lo mejor de todo es la pared de la música: una larga fila de ollas y sartenes colgadas en las que no solo se puede hacer ruido, sino que se debe. Siempre que estoy al lado (sin acercarme demasiado), me digo que voy a instalar una en mi oficina para los clientes adultos de terapia. Es una gloriosa cacofonía de liberación

y libertad. Al estar convencidos por los medios de comunicación de que el mundo es un lugar peligroso, los padres y los diseñadores de patios de recreo del siglo XXI se niegan a dar libertad a sus hijos. Pero al hacer que jueguen en sitios estructurados, seguros y estériles, no solo frenamos su diversión sino también su desarrollo neuronal. Estudios recientes sugieren que el tipo de juego libre que se fomenta en el patio del SIS produce un crecimiento neuronal en el córtex cerebral prefrontal, lo que conduce a unas habilidades de pensamiento “ejecutivo” mejoradas esenciales para el éxito social y académico. Ese es el motivo por el que mis tareas en el patio de recreo no solo son las más entretenidas de la semana sino también las más gratificantes.

Let the Children Play... The first time I saw the sprawling playground at Sotogrande International School, I assumed Helicopteros Sanitarios must land here every day. Kids everywhere; cartwheeling, climbing and bombing around way too quickly to be safe. I was wrong. What I witness here is not a daily reenactment of Waterloo but the most precious theatre of freedom, creativity and laughter imaginable. And all of

this is achieved in a place where the children, guided by their teachers, are key players in the ever-evolving design and construction of the playground. In Jurassic Park, a corner where it’s okay to get dirty, I watch children dig in real earth, not sterilised play sand. They burrow away every playtime looking for elusive whiteness; a Velociraptor’s claw, a Neanderthal molar. There’s a Bug Hotel, where the

archaeologists carefully relocate creepy crawlies unearthed on their digs; a construction zone, where architects and builders collaborate to design bridges and skyscrapers with giant Jenga blocks and a centre stage where you can always be entertained by the next Beyoncé. Best of all is the music wall; a long row of suspended pots and pans where making noise is not just okay, it’s obligatory. When-

ever I stand near it (not too near) I vow to install one in my office for adult therapy clients. It’s a glorious cacophony of release and freedom. Convinced by the media that the world is a dangerous place, 21st Century parents and playground designers are reluctant to let children loose. But by making play structured, safe and sterile, we’re not only curbing our children’s fun but also

their neural development! Recent studies suggest that the kind of free play encouraged in the SIS playground produces neural growth in the pre-frontal cerebral cortex, leading to enhanced ‘executive’ thinking skills essential for social and academic success, which is why my playground duties here aren’t just the most entertaining but also the most fulfilling moments of my week.

Celebramos el Día de la Amistad Con motivo del Día de la Amistad, el pasado viernes 12 de Febrero, realizamos en nuestro Centro, las siguientes actividades en los diferentes ciclos: - Infantil: Corazones en tus manos. Consiste en cartulina de color blanco, pintar corazones con las palmas de las manos pintadas de rojo, superponiendo una sobre otra. Esas cartulinas luego se colocaron en un mural en el pasillo correspondiente a este ciclo. - Primer ciclo: Caza-corazones. Los alumnos de primer ciclo colorearon corazones (según una plantilla dada) y en cada corazón pusieron una letra o número. El mensaje completo debía ser (14 de febrero día de la amistad). Una vez coloreados, los corazones fueron escondidos por las profesoras, para posteriormente encontrarlos y formar el mensaje escondido en los corazones.

- Segundo ciclo: ¿De qué color son los besos? Esta actividad consiste en la visualización del vídeo: “Mamá, ¿de qué color son los besos?” Tras ello todo el alumnado, con los labios de rojo, besaron un mural donde quedaron sellados sus besos. - Tercer ciclo: El árbol de la amistad. Los alumnos más mayores del centro, es decir, de 5º y 6º realizaron una lista de las cosas positivas de la amistad (cariño, confianza, respeto…) y de cosas negativas (envidia, celos…). Tras elaborar la lista las cosas positivas se escribieron en cartulinas de colores en forma de hojas y las cosas negativas en cartulinas oscuras. Una vez realizadas, las negativas fueron enterradas en la tierra del árbol que se encuentra en el pasillo y las positivas fueron colocadas en las ramas del árbol.

We celebrate the Day of Friendship To mark the Day of Friendship, on Friday 12 February we carried out the following activities at our school, across the different year groups: - Preschool: Hearts in your hands. It consisted of a white piece of card, painting hearts with the palms of hands painted red, placing one on top of the other. These pieces of card were then placed on a mural in the corridor corresponding to this age group. - First cycle: Heart-hunters. First cycle pupils coloured in hearts (according to a given tem-

plate) and in each heart they put a letter or number. The complete message was “14 February, Day of Friendship”. Once coloured in, the hearts were hidden by the teachers, and the pupils then had to find them and form the message hidden on the hearts. - Second cycle: What colour are kisses? This activity consisted of a screening of the video: “Mummy, what colour are kisses?” Following that, all of the pupils, with their lips red, kissed a mural, where the kisses were stamped. - Third cycle: The tree of friend-

ship. The oldest pupils from the centre, that is to say from years 5 and 6 created a list of the positive aspects of friendship (affection, confidence, respect…) and of negative things (envy, jealous…). After creating the list the positive things were written on pieces of coloured card shaped like leaves and the negative things on dark pieces of card. Once created, the negative things were buried in the earth of the tree that is in the corridor and the positive things were placed on the branches of the tree.

- En los últimos días se han podido ver a operarios de la Red de Carreteras realizando una serie de mejoras y acondicionamientos en las vías de servicio de la A-7, en sus dos primeros tramos. Una buena noticia, ya que son carreteras muy transitadas. Las reclamadas mejoras la vías de servicio tanto en Pueblo Nuevo como Sotomarket no deberían hacerse esperar mucho más.

Una exposición en la Galería Municipal de Arte del Palacio de los Gobernadores, recrea cómo era “El San Roque de Luis Ortega Brú”. Aunque la fisonomía externa del casco de San Roque no ha variado demasiado en 100 años, las interioridades de una vivienda o un lugar de trabajo de un artesano sí lo han hecho. El alcalde, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, y el sobrino del imaginero, Manu Ortega, acompañado otros ediles y autoridades, inauguraron esta curiosa exposición, que se enmarca en los actos por el centenario del insigne imaginero sanroqueño organizados por la Delegación de Cultura. “El San Roque de Luis Ortega Brú”, en la que se trata de mos-

trar el San Roque de la época en la que el imaginero vivió en nuestra ciudad a través de documentos, objetos, música, fotografías y de una recreación de cómo era una casa en aquella época. Esta es la primera de un ciclo de exposiciones dedicadas íntegramente a Luis Ortega Brú que va a acoger la Galería Municipal de Arte, en las que se abordará su obra desde distintos puntos de vista, como histórico, artístico, de los continuadores de su obra, o incluso la reinterpretación de su obra por artistas contemporaneos”. Fotografías y documentos originales de Ortega Brú y del San Roque en el que vivió conforman el grueso de la exposición que homenajea al imaginero.

El sobrino del imaginero, Manu Ortega, señaló que “es una exposición muy interesante, que refleja muy bien la historia de mi tío y de mi familia, muy bien documentada y me encuentro muy satisfecho con ella”. Durante todo 2016 se va a dedicar cada mes a una pieza de Ortega Brú, comenzando en febrero con La Piedad. Así, a finales de mes se va a realizar, junto a la delegación de Turismo, una visita guiada especial a esta obra, ubicada en el Museo del Palacio de los Gobernadores.

En los últimos años se ha convertido ya prácticamente en costumbre que relevantes equipos de fútbol del panorama europeo establezcan en Sotogrande su cuartel general para realizar la preparación navideña que les permite el descanso competitivo en los calendarios de las ligas del norte de Europa. Escenarios habituales de partidos de polo, como son las canchas de Ayala Polo o Santa María Polo Club (tradicionalmente en las canchas de Puente de Hierro), se convierten en espléndidos terrenos de juego para los futbolistas y que suponen una gran promo-

ción internacional para Sotogrande como destino de calidad. A primeros de año con la presencia del Club Brujas de Fútbol (de Bélgica), ya prácticamente un habitual y que repitió este año; o más recientemente con la presencia del campeón de Liga de Fútbol de Albania, el conjunto KF Skenderbeu (que ha participado en la Europa League), consolidan este destino como uno de los predilectos de importantes equipos europeos para su parón invernal. También, en los últimos días hemos podido ver en la zona al conjunto alemán del SC Friburgo de la Bundesliga 1 (equivalente

a Primera División), tanto en las instalaciones del Hotel Almenara como por las canchas de Ayala Polo Team. Canchas en las que también se han ejercitado y jugado algún amistoso el también alemán Karlsruher SC, de la segunda división germana. Prueba más que de sobra que Sotogrande está, junto con otros puntos cercanos a la Costa del Sol, posicionada en el norte de Europa como gran destino para los equipos que realizan parón invernal. Además, aprovechan para jugar encuentros amistosos con los equipos profesionales del Campo de Gibraltar.

This is plenty of evidence that Sotogrande, along with other areas nearby on the Costa del Sol, is a great destination in the north of Europe for sides to visit during the winter break. The European sides also make the most of their time here to play friendly games with professional sides from Campo de Gibraltar.

En anteriores artículos, desde este medio hemos repasado los diferentes conjuntos, algunos de gran nombre y trayectoria en torneos internacionales, que han pasado a lo largo de estas semanas por Sotogrande. El último, el conjunto búlgado del Litex Lovech. El equipo ‘naranja’, como se le conoce comúnmente en su país, además de permanecer unos días en Sotogrande celebró un encuentro amistoso en las instalaciones de Ayala Polo, ante el todopoderoso Rubin Kazan ruso; equipo de sobra conocido por los más futboleros por sus continuas apariciones en la Liga de Campeones. Dicho encuentro finalizó con el resultado de 2-1 a favor de los rusos. Denis Tkachuk adelantó al Rubin; Angelov logró igualar el choque y finalmente, Dzhalilov resolvió para el cuadro del Rubin Kazan.

The last was the Bulgarian side, Litex Lovech. The “Orange” team as they are known popularly in their country, not only spent a few days in Sotogrande, they also played a friendly game at the Ayala Polo facilities, against the all-powerful Russian side Rubin Kazan; a team that are very well-known by football fans for their ongoing appearances in the Champions League. The game ended with a 2-1 win for the Russians. Denis Tkachuk put Rubin ahead, Angelov managed to get an equaliser and finally, Dzhalilov found a winner for Rubin Kazan.

María Parra, espectacular. Dos torneos disputados en este 2016, dos victorias. La segunda de ellas, en la 86ª edición del Internacional de Portugal Femenino, prueba en la que ofreció una exhibición de golf al alcance de muy pocas jugadoras: finalizar con -17 y nueve golpes de la ventaja sobre la segunda clasificada, la jugadora suiza Albane Valenzuela. El final de la guadiareña de SIGA Sotogrande en Montado Golf, al sur de Lisboa, fantástico sin bajar el nivel. Sus vueltas anteriores de 66, 68 y 69 golpes dejaron paso a una última de 68 golpes. Sólo decir que cometió solo dos bogeys en toda la semana para ilustrar su participación en el torneo. Dos bogeys en 72

hoyos y -17 al total en una competición en la que solo cinco golfistas jugaron bajo par. Su registro supone asimismo un record en el campeonato; antes estaba en manos de la irlandesa Leona Maguire con -14. Tremendo. La de SIGA Sotogrande está viviendo un gran inicio de 2016, con triunfos primero en la Copa de Andalucía y ahora en Portugal. Pero no es casualidad. La Atlantic Gate Rally regresará a Sotogrande en 2016 1 M. Gil

Tras el éxito de la primera edición, el pasado otoño, Sotogrande a ser etapa este año (2016) la II Regata Puerta del Atlántico (Atlantic Gate Rally), que discurrirá de nuevo entre Ibiza y Lanzarote. Una mgnífica noticia que se une a un año lleno de importantes citas de la Vela en Sotogrande con el Campeonato del Mundo de J80 (finales de junio) o la prueba internacional de RC44 en mayo. La regata, que une San Antonio (Ibiza) con Marina Rubicón (Lanzarote), haciendo escala en Almerimar y Sotogrande, adelanta la fecha de salida para 2016 respecto a la edición de 2015. En concreto, el día 16 de octubre de

2016 partirán los barcos desde el Club Nàutic de Sant Antoni, es decir, 10 días antes que el año pasado. El objetivo, entre otros, es disfrutar de un clima más suave para la travesía de 1.000 millas a través del Mediterráneo y el Atlántico. Y además, permitir que las embarcaciones alcancen las Islas Canarias con más antelación. El año pasado participaron 12 barcos. Hay que destacar que la última etapa (entre Puerto Sotogrande y Marina Rubicón) tiene un toque especial, ya que la organización premia a la embarcación que realiza en menos tiempo la travesía entre el Estrecho de Gibraltar y Lanzarote.

En cuanto a las actividades previstas con motivo de esta competición y pensadas principalmente para los regatistas, se organizó en Santa María Polo Club un “clinic” sobre el deporte del polo. También hubo pádel y tenis en el Sotogrande Racquet Centre, un descenso en kayak del río Guadiaro organizado por Andalucía Activities, así como promociones para la práctica de golf en Almenara Golf. También se llevó a cabo un simulacro de un rescate de un velero a cargo del Centro de Salvamento Marítimo También, se realizó la entrega de trofeos de la segunda etapa.

It is worth highlighting the fact that the final stage (between the Port of Sotogrande and Marina Rubicón) has a special touch, as the organization awards a prize to the vessel that makes the crossing between the Strait of Gibraltar

and Lanzarote in the shortest time possible. As for activities scheduled to mark the competition taking place and mainly devised for the regatta participants, Santa María Polo Club organized a polo clinic. There was also padel and tennis at Sotogrande Racquet Centre, a kayak descent of the Guadiaro River organized by Andalucía Activities, as well as special golfing offers at Almenara Golf. A staged rescue of a yacht was also carried out by the Sea Rescue Service. Lastly, the prize giving ceremony for the second stage also took place.

Javier Gallegos conquista la cita del MENA Golf Tour en Sotogrande Gran éxito de la cita de la Escuela de Clasiﬁcación, de este circuito, celebrada en el trazado de Almenara Golf ✑ Redacción

Javier Gallegos mantuvo la calma para ganar la primera edición de la escuela de Caliﬁcación de la PGA de Mena Golf Tour, disputada en la instalaciones del Club de Golf Almenara, en Sotogrande. Los 12 primeros jugadores compartieron una bolsa de premios de 13.000 dólares y Gallegos se llevó un cheque, como ganador, de 3.000. dólares El top 15 también recibió la invitación gratuita a Mena Golf Tour para el 2016.

Con un golpe de ventaja, el joven español encaró una ronda final de 73 impactos para cerrar el torneo con un resultado suficiente. El escocés Duncan Stewart, que cerró con 71 golpes la jornada decisiva, registró el mejor resultado de la final. El cuarteto Inglés, que comprende Liam Crawford, Andrew Marshall, Jordania Guarnición y David Booth, terminaron empatados por el quinto, con un golpe más.

El MENA Golf Tour viaja ahora a Marruecos para el Royal Golf de Anfa Mohammedia abierto, desde el 23 de marzo al 25, como parte de su programa de ampliación de 2016, en el se disputará en nuevos destinos y trazados de Kuwait, Egipto, España, Tailandia y Sudáfrica.

Javier Gallegos wins the MENA Golf Tour event in Sotogrande Great success at the Qualiﬁcation School Event , held at Almenara Gol Javier Gallegos kept his calm to win the first edition of the PGA Qualification School of the Mena Golf Tour, held at the Club de Golf Almenara facilities, in Sotogrande. The top 12 players shared prize money worth 13,000 dollars and Gallegos, the winner, took home a cheque of 3,000 dollars. The top 15 players also received a free invitation for the 2016 Mena Golf Tour. With a one shot lead, the young Spaniard finished the final round on 73 to close out the tournament with a score that did the job. The Scottish player Duncan Steward, who ended the final day on 71 shots, got the best result in

the last round. The English quarter comprised of Liam Crawford, Andrew Marshall, Jordania Guarnición and David Booth, finished in a tie for fifth place, with one more shot. The MENA Golf Tour is now travelling to Morocco for the Royal Golf de Anfa Mohammedia Open, from 23 to 25 March, as part of the 2016 tour extension program involving new destinations and courses in Kuwait, Egypt, Spain, Thailand and South Africa.

Una nueva edición del tradicional torneo de invierno, una de las fechas más esperadas y de mayor calado internacional en esta variante del polo que lleva a la idílica St. Moritz a distinguidas personalidades y marcas del primer orden, alrededor del gran espectáculo del Polo. Juanjo Bezares (Guadiaro, 1981) regresa al CD Guadiaro, al equipo de su tierra, a las órdenes de Sergio Mena tras un breve paso por el Europe Football Club gibraltareño, uno de los clubes que más está apostando por el desarrollo de este deporte en el Peñón y que está plagado de caras conocidas del fútbol comarcal. Mario Galiano logró su segunda victoria en el Gecko Tour Golf, ambas consecutivas, tras imponerse en una emocionante ronda final disputada en La Cañada. El tesorillero fue el único en acabar bajo par después de tres durísimas jornadas de viento en los recorridos de Almenara Golf Club y La Cañada. Galiano ganó el torneo con un total de 213 golpes, dos menos que el sueco Fredik From y el británico Nick Marsh. Ambos tuvieron que jugar un desempate para determinar el vencedor entre profesionales. Finalmente, se llevaba el gato al agua Marsh, un inglés de 21 años que se hizo pro hace cuatro meses y que mantiene un idilio particular con Sotogrande, pues aquí ganó el año pasado la Nations Cup con Inglaterra. Marcus Gran vence en la cita en Alcaidesa Golf de Gecko Tour Marcus Gran se impuso en el torneo del Gecko Tour Golf, celebrado esta semana en los dos recorridos del complejo Alcaidesa Golf (Links y Heathland). El joven golfista sueco ganó con un resultado acumulado de 212 golpes, aventajando en uno a Oskar Bergqvist, en dos a Anton Karlsson, en tres a Victor Tarnstrom y en cuatro a Fredrik From, todos ellos también suecos. La batalla entre los nórdicos fue durísima hasta el final. Tanto es así que los cuatro primeros clasificados terminaron con un birdie en el hoyo 18. Bajar la guardia al final: sinónimo de derrota. Gran tiene 21 años y se hizo profesional hace tres temporadas. Como tantos otros de sus compatriotas, ha elegido el Gecko Tour como destino para poder entrenar en invierno y llegar bien preparado a la parte fuerte del curso en Suecia, cuando se disputa su circuito nacional, durante la primavera y el verano.

El monotipo ‘Gesta Real Estate’, del gibraltareño John Bassadone, selló su primera victoria parcial en el V Circuito Grupo Trocadero de J/80 que se disputa en aguas de Sotogrande. La cita se resolvió con las cuatro pruebas disputadas en la primera jornada, el fuerte temporal dejó en tierra a la flota en la segunda jornada. Bassadone firmó su primer triunfo parcial y recorta distancias con el ‘Marbella Team’ de Pepequín Orbaneja y Juan Luis Páez en la general del circuito, donde estos siguen lideres a pesar de no haber ganado la general del fin de semana. El tercer puesto, logrado por el barco del Náutico Sevill, no puede considerarse un tropiezo aunque acostumbrados a ganar siempre bien puede ser esa la sensación del equipo.

En medio de ambos, el ‘Grupo Ceres’ de Daniel Cuevas, subcampeón de la quinta entrega tras protagonizar la remontada de la jornada.

The event finished after the four events held on the first day, as the strong storm meant that the fleet were unable to take to the water on the second day. Bassadone got his first partial win and has shortened the deficit behind the “Marbella Team” skippered by Pepequín Orbaneja and Juan Luis Páez on the overall circuit standings. “Marbella Team” remains in top spot despite not having won the overall weekend event.
