Un grupo de residentes decide, tras cumplirse dos semanas desde la denuncia sobre estado de la bocana del río Guadiaro, proceder por sus propios medios a intentar a abrir un canal para el intercambio de aguas.

Sotogrande, mientras vive un particular compás de espera entre el cierre de esta edición y su gran puesta de largo anual cara al mundo con la final de la Copa de Oro del Torneo Internacional de Santa María Polo Club (este domingo, 28 de agosto, a partir de las 18:00 horas), se prepara para despedir un verano que recordará por muchos motivos. Entre ellos, los obvios: su multitud de eventos, competiciones, citas, actividades, encuentros y la animada vida social de la Urbanización durante los días en los que más aprieta el calor. Recuerdos de gran cariño y alguno de no tanto agrado, como ese inesperado invitado llamado ‘Levante’ que nos ha acompañado/condicionado durante gran parte de la temporada estival.

En la próxima edición de El Periódico de Sotogrande, que verá la luz a mediados del próximo mes de septiembre, como muchos

con la bocina de máquinas para que este periódico entrase en rotativas, salta la noticia que ante la “inacción” de las diferentes administraciones e instituciones políticas, de todos los grados y estamentos, finalmente es un grupo de vecinos de Sotogrande los que con sus propias manos ejecutan una salida a la desembocadura del río Guadiaro para que éste se abrace con el mar. Gran gesto y bonita foto de recuerdo.

No cabe duda, a creencias de este medio, que antes o después (probablemente antes) alguna de las administraciones, preferentemente la local más sensibilizada con estos temas y quién finalmente se acaba preocupando más por el vecino, hubiese acabado actuando.

Pero entre dimes y diretes, el ciudadano, el que siempre acaba arreglando y solventando “el asunto”, ha tomado una vez más las riendas de la que considera “su casa”. ¡Bravo!

Curtain comes down with great civic gesture While Sotogrande goes through the odd rhythm of waiting between the closure of this edition and its great annual unveiling to the world with the final of the Gold Cup of the International Tournament at Santa María Polo Club (this Sunday, 28 August, at 6pm), it is preparing to say goodbye to a summer that will be remembered for many reasons. They include the obvious ones: a multitude of events, competitions, events, activities, gatherings and the lively social life of the Resort during the days when the heat is at its fiercest. There are fond memories and some not so pleasant, like the uninvited East wind that has accompanied/conditioned us during a large part of the summer season.

In the next edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande, to be published midway through September, like many of you: individuals, entrepreneurs, restaurant

owners, traders…. We will offer an assessment of what the season has meant for different economic and social sectors in Sotogrande. Although, we can already disclose that, in the majority of cases, it is almost certain that the numbers come out looking positive. Calculators and accounts will offer a result when the “=” button is pressed, that will bring a smile to many. It was about time following a long route through less comforting periods for companies, despite their great efforts to grow, stay steady, or to simply survive in some cases.

Although, somewhere between indignation and indifference, the all too familiar concept of “political idle talk” has resurfaced just at the end of the summer.

That term encompasses the idea of saying lots and doing practically nothing. Two weeks had passed, and the machine alarm

was about to go for this newspaper to hit the presses. Then suddenly, the news emerged that faced with the “inaction” of the different administrations and political institutions of all levels and tiers, a group of Sotogrande residents have finally taken it upon themselves to create an exit for the mouth of the Guadiaro River in order for it to reach the sea. It was a great gesture and a beautiful memory to treasure.

For this newspaper, there was no doubt that sooner or later (probably later) any of the administrations, that are finally worrying about residents, would end up taking action, preferably the local one most aware of these issues. However, between the bickering, citizens, the ones that always end up fixing and resolving “the issue”, have once again taken the reins of what they consider to be “their home”. Bravo!

Calculadoras y cuentas arrojarán un resultado al pulsar la tecla “=” que a muchos dibujará una sonrisa. Ya era hora después de una larga travesía por periodos menos reconfortantes para las economías empresariales pese a los grandes esfuerzos de éstas por crecer, mantenerse o sobrevivir, en algunos de los casos.

Aunque entre la indignación y la indiferencia resalta una imagen justo a finales del verano que contrasta la más que consolidada “palabrería política”, ese término que engloba el decir mucho y no contar prácticamente nada. Cuando se cumplían dos semanas y

Una imagen vale más que un discurso Increíble pero cierto pese a estar más que acostumbrados. Los últimos 15/20 meses hemos vivido en un caótico periplo político electoral/propagandístico como no se conocía antes en España con una lista interminable de comicios y llamadas a las urnas, e incluso en doble ocasión, en el 1 José Luis García caso de la Elecciones Editor/Director Generales. Es más, jlgarcia@grupohcp.com aún no es descartable una terceras; como en cualquier espectáculo de magia: todo puede pasar, hoy en día, en un Congreso de Diputados. Se podría decir hasta que tenemos hecho, como se conoce vulgarmente, ese ‘callo’ que inmuniza de mensajes absurdos, amagos de acuerdos, principios de desacuerdos y nuevo reparto de cartas. En definitiva, sin novedad.

Lo que sí parece inaudito es encontrase con este tipo de situaciones cuando se juegan con las cuestiones verda-

deramente importantes y trascedentes para el desarrollo, vida y economía (cuando buena parte de esta se vincula en demasía a la imagen que se proyecta sobre el exterior), de un destino. Sotogrande, en cuestión. Hace dos semanas, aproximadamente, desde la edición digital de este periódico (www.sotograndedigital.com), con vídeo incluido, se denunció la colmatación de la desembocadura del río Guadiaro. Pasado el tiempo, pasada la partida de tenis entre diferentes administraciones, a día de hoy, la cuestión continúa sin una solución de carácter definitivo.

Descontar en esta ecuación el magno gesto de los vecinos de la ribera del río, en Sotogrande, que decidieron poner su grano de indignación (en este caso quitando algunos de la bocana del río). La cuestión es la siguiente.

Si era más que previsible la futura colmatación del río y era más que evidente la escueta aportación de arena para la regeneración de la playa de Sotogrande (algunos técnicos afirman que serían necesario alrededor de 70.000 metros cúbicos), ¿por qué esperar a esta situación extrema? ¿Era necesario llegar hasta el límite en el que estuviera taponada la desembocadura y falta de arena la playa? Pues todo parece que lo que sí son necesarios son los discursos políticos para buscar réditos electorales en este ciclo tan politizado.

Al final, tristemente, lo que permanecerá es la imagen de un río taponado, algunos peces muertos y una playa

a medio rehabilitar. Los discursos van y vienen pero la imagen, la de la bocana cerrada y los vecinos retirando arena, quedará. Así poca esperanza se puede tener en un gran pacto nacional si en las cosas sustanciales la resolución es ésta.

Por otro lado, resaltar el animadísimo verano que estamos viviendo en Sotogrande. Las ofertas en ocio y entretenimiento han aumentado en gran cuantía respecto a temporadas anteriores, así quizás no tanto la demanda aunque con precios y propuestas adecuadas, seguramente, los empresarios del sector servicios hayan visto respaldadas sus apuestas con la buena aceptación social.

Puerto Sotogrande, La Marina, las zonas comerciales y deportivas de Santa María Polo Club, el sector hostelero en Torreguadiaro,…, en gran medida todos han brindado un colorido que esclarece el salto cualitativo en calidad y en oferta que pedía Sotogrande para dar un paso más.

Esperemos que la imagen que quede sea esa. Mientras tanto, aprovechen hasta el último momento de sus vacaciones, para algunos, y para otros afortunados, que disfrutan de este rincón todo el año, aún les quedan muchos días de playa, buen ambiente y terrazas.

A picture is worth more than a speech Despite the fact that we are more than used to it, this had to be seen to be believed. The last 15/20 months we have been on a chaotic political/electoral/propagandistic journey unlike anything before in Spain, with an endless list of ballots and trips to the polls, on two occasions in the case of the General Elections.

Moreover, a third one still cannot be written off; like any good magic show, anything can happen nowadays in the Spanish Congress. You could even say that we have grown immune to their absurd rhetoric, feigned agreements, budding disagreements and yet more reshuffles. In other words, nothing new.

What does seem to be unprecedented is being in this kind of situation when the issues at stake are truly important for the development, life and economy (when a significant part of it is strongly linked to the image that is reflected overseas) of a tourist destination; Sotogrande, in this case. Approximately two weeks ago, the digital edition of this newspaper (www.sotograndedigital.com) reported the clogging up of the River Guadiaro, including a vid-

eo. Time has passed, as has the to-and-fro between the various administrative bodies, and we still have no definitive solution. However, a grand effort was made by the river’s neighbours, when they decided to let their disgust be known (in this case by removing sand from the mouth of the river). The question is this; if the future clogging of the river was more than predictable and the amount of sand necessary for the regeneration of the Sotogrande beach was more than evident (some experts say that around 70,000 cubic metres of sand would be required), why wait until we reach this extreme situation?

Was it necessary to get to the point where the river mouth is blocked and there is not enough sand on the beach? It seems that what is necessary here is political debate in order to seek electoral value during such a politicised period.

Finally, sadly, what will remain is the image of a blocked river, a few dead fish and a semi-renovated beach. Discussions go back and forth but the image of a blocked river mouth and the locals removing sand will stay with us. So there is little hope of a na-

tional pact when this is what it comes to for important issues.

On the other hand, the extremely lively summer we are enjoying in Sotogrande should be noted. The leisure and entertainment on offer has greatly increased compared to previous seasons, perhaps demand has not grown quite as much, but with suitable prices and activities, surely the activities of the businessmen in the service sector have been bolstered by social acceptance. Puerto Sotogrande, La Marina, the hotel sector in Torreguadario…, everyone has offered a range of services that more than provide the leap in quality and quantity of activities that Sotogrande required in order to take a step forward.

We hope that the image we are left with is that.

Meanwhile, make the most of your holidays, while for the other lucky ones who enjoy this corner of the world all year round, there are still plenty of days to enjoy the beach, the atmosphere and the terraces.

Se clausura en Torreguadiaro la campaña sobre limpieza de playas 1 Manuel Gil

Un buen número de niños se divirtieron en las actividades de “Limpita: la playa más bonita”, que tuvieron lugar en la playa de Torreguadiaro. Se trataba de la última de las jornadas de esta campaña promovida por la Delegación Municipal de Medio Ambiente.

La actividad está dirigida a niños, a los que se les ofrece cuentacuentos; una gynkana con recogida selectiva de basura por la orilla de la playa; identificación de los diferentes tipos de residuos, y clasificación por contenedores; y juegos relacionados con el reciclaje de conocimiento, comunicación, cooperación, distensión y resolución de conflictos. La iniciativa tiene como objetivos generales explicar a todos los participantes la vida

de cada tipo de residuo y el daño que causa al medio ambiente; infundir en los participantes el

hábito de reciclar y respetar el medioambiente; aprender y aplicar el concepto de las tres “R”:

Reciclar, Reducir y Reutilizar; y conocer cada tipo de envase.

Entre los objetivos específicos se

encuentra demostrar que podemos tener juegos, juguetes y objetos prácticos sin gastar dinero; fomentar la capacidad creativa; impulsar el reciclaje; o despertar la imaginación y la originalidad.

También se quiere innovar para hacer más atractivos nuestros momentos de ocio con los amigos; reciclar gran cantidad de materiales que se consideran sólo basura; y fomentar el respeto por el medio ambiente.

Se pretende igualmente concienciar de que debemos producir menos basura a diario; promover entre los participantes la necesidad de reducir el consumo de materiales contaminantes; e impulsar a la utilización de los diferentes contenedores según sus colores y que residuos se depositan en cada uno de ellos.

A significant number of children enjoyed the activities of “Limpita: la playa más bonita” (Really clean: the prettiest beach) that took place on Torreguadiaro beach. This was the last of the days of this campaign carried out by the Municipal Environmental Department.

The activity was aimed at children, who were treated to a storyteller; a gymkhana with selective waste collection on the beach shore; identification of the different types of waste, and classification using containers; and games linked with recycling, involving knowledge, communication, cooperation, relaxation and conflict resolution. The general aims of the initiative were to explain to all of the participants the lifecycle of each type of waste and the damage that it causes to the environment; to instill in the participants the habit of recycling and respecting the environment; to learn and apply the concept of the three “R”: Recycle, Reduce and Reuse; and to know about all types of packaging.

The specific objectives includ-

ed showing that it is possible to have games, toys and practical objects without spending money; increasing creative abilities; encouraging recycling; and awakening imagination and originality.

There is also a desire to innovate in order to make out leisure time with friends more appealing; to recycle a large amount of material that is simply considered to be

waste; and to encourage respect for the environment.

The aim is also to raise awareness that we need to produce less waste on a daily basis; to promote the need among participants to reduce the consumption of pollutant materials; and boost the use of different containers, classified by colour and the waste that is put in each of them.

Las calles y avenidas de Sotogrande se convierten en verano (y en cualquier época del año) en un lugar idóneo para practicar deporte. Por el Puerto, la Ribera del Marlín, el Paseo del Parque, la desembocadura del río… sitios muy frecuentados y en los que a cualquier hora del día te encuentras a gente poniendo en práctica sus hábitos saludables.

Una estampa típica del verano en Sotogrande es ver a una familia circular en bicicleta. El ‘running’ es también un hábito en auge, y las facilidades que da la urbanización para practicarlo hace que sean muchos habitantes, veraneantes y visitantes los que la eligen para realizarlo. Si no eres de correr, siempre puedes caminar, dar un paseo con tus mascotas o

patinar.

Si vives en Sotogrande, no tienes excusa para mantener una vida sana y deportiva sin necesidad de acudir al gimnasio.

Sport as a way of life in Sotogrande In summer (and at any time of the year) the streets and avenues of Sotogrande become an ideal place for practising sport. The Port, the Ribera del Marlin, Paseo del Parque, the river mouth… they are all very busy places where you can find people putting their healthy habits into practice at any time of the day.

A typical summer image in Sotogrande is seeing families out on bicycles. Running is

also a habit that is on the rise, and the ease of doing it in the resort means that there are lots of inhabitants, holiday goers and visitors that choose Sotogrande as a place to run.

If you are not into running, you can always walk, go for a stroll with your pet or skate.

If you live in Sotogrande, there are no excuses not to lead a healthy and sporting life without having to go to the gym.

El Hotel Almenara acoge ‘La Noche de las Estrellas’ con el chef José Carlos García 1 Jesús Sanz

El Hotel Almenara Resort, en Sotogrande acogió la cita gastronómica ‘La Noche de las Estrellas’, dos noches en las que el chef José Carlos García, único con Estrella Michelín en Málaga (Muelle Uno), deleitó con sus originales creaciones a los más de cincuenta comensales que se dieron cita en cada una de las noches.

‘La Noche de las Estrellas’ comenzó con un cóctel para los presentes en el jardín de Almenara. Cuatro platos de recepción que fueron el tentempié ideal para, una vez en el salón del Restaurante Gaia, degustar

los seis platos de creaciones únicas de José Carlos García.

La cena contó con el maridaje del champagne G.H.MUMM y Martini.

Durante la cena, José Carlos García comentó sus creaciones, las cuales asombró a los que asistieron al evento, que quedaron más que satisfechos con la experiencia sensorial de degustar platos únicos y originales.

Almenara hosts the ‘Night of the Stars’ with chef José Carlos García The Hotel Almenara Resort in Sotogrande hosted a culinary event ‘Night of the Stars,’ two full nights in which the well-known and highly acclaimed chef José Carlos García -the only chef in Malaga

with a Michelin star (Muelle Uno)delighted guests with his unique creations as over fifty gourmet diners attended both evenings.

The ‘Night of the Stars’ began with a cocktail party in the Almenara

garden. Four starters were served as the ideal appetizers so that upon arriving to the dining room in Restaurant Gaia, they could then begin to taste the six main courses, all of which were com-

pletely unique creations by José Carlos García. Dinner included a pairing with G.H.MUMM champagne and Martini.

During the dinner part of the event, José Carlos García com-

mented on each of his delectable creations which thrilled guests all of whom were immensely satisfied with the epicurean experience of enjoying such creative and unique cuisine.

‘El Encuentro’ se celebra en Torreguadiaro con una buena participación de público 1 Redacción

El Paseo Marítimo de Torreguadiaro acogió “El Encuentro”, un evento en el que se ofrecieron actividades de cocina internacional, música en directo, espectáculos, un mercado, talleres, atracciones infantiles y exposiciones. Esta iniciativa ocntó con notable participación de vecinos y visitants durante todo el fin de semana.

El Encuentro” se desarrolló en el Paseo Marítimo de Torreguadiaro frente a los entre las 18.00 horas y la madrugada. Contó con un área gastronómica, otra infantil con talleres y cacharritos y un “market” con expositores de la zona, entre otras atracciones.

Todas estas actividades se complementaron con conciertos y actuaciones en directo, una divertida propuesta para animar este pasado fin de semana de agosto.

‘El Encuentro’ attracts large crowds in Torreguadiaro The Torreguadiaro Paseo Marítimo recently welcomed “El Encuentro”, an event which offered international cuisine, live music, shows, a market, workshops, children’s attractions and exhibitions. It attracted a high number of locals and visitors throughout the weekend.

“El Encuentro” took place at the Paseo Marítimo de Torregua-

diaro from 18.00 til late. There was a food court, a kid’s space with workshops and rides, and a market with local exhibitors, among other attractions. Activities in “El Encuentro” began with workshops in the kid’s area, as well as a beach tennis demo by Beach Tennis San Roque. There was later a hunt for real Pokemon, a perfor-

mance by the Chari Expresati Dance School, a guitar performance by the Peña Flamenca Cultural Linense, and finally a children’s show performed by Tribus Parque.

All these activities were complemented by live concerts and performances, a fun way to spend the most recent weekend in August.

Caro Waro y Garbunka, como se hacen llamar en el mundo artístico los hermanos, tienen en libro a la venta desde abril y ya tienen en el horizonte la publicación de

Un baile de máscaras

La política española en este año 2016 evoca Un ballo in maschera. Nadie conoce aún el elenco definitivo, y quién interpretará el papel de Riccardo, que ha de morir a manos de Renato, como en el acto III de la famosa ópera de Verdi, pero el ambiente de tensión y confusión es palpable.

Habrá pleno de investidura el 30 de agosto, y dos votaciones, pero Mariano Rajoy no tiene todavía los votos necesarios para ser investido presidente del Gobierno con toda seguridad. Puede fracasar, y llevar eventualmente a España a unas nuevas elecciones, pero también puede alegar que ha hecho lo posible, y que está en mejor posición que antes.

Ciudadanos puede ser acusado de apoyar a Rajoy cuando lo había rechazado enfáticamente, pero también puede defenderse aduciendo que no había otra salida, y que

el PP ha aceptado los seis requisitos con vistas a la regeneración institucional que Rivera planteó para sentarse a negociar.

Pedro Sánchez tiene la llave de la gobernabilidad, y recibe permanentes mensajes, desde fuera y desde dentro de su partido, para que el PSOE se abstenga y deje gobernar al PP. Pero el líder del PSOE ha tenido una sola respuesta: no. Podrá decirse que esta negativa es otra máscara, destinada a neutralizar a los críticos que desde la izquierda podrán lanzar contra Sánchez el mismo ataque que lanzan contra Rivera, y acusarlo de complicidad con la derecha.

Puede ser, pero también puede haber una estrategia calculada detrás de esa máscara. Pedro Sánchez puede haber concluido que abstenerse y darle el Gobierno a Rajoy es más costoso políticamente para él que forzar unas nuevas elecciones. También

es posible que haya reconsiderado la peligrosa opción de intentar una especie de Frente Popular con Podemos y los independentistas.

Dos confusiones más, para terminar. Lo de celebrar las elecciones el 25 de diciembre es un guiño a Sánchez, pero en realidad no es obligatorio celebrarlas en domingo, es solo una tradición. Y, por fin, la investidura, como el famoso cartero, puede llamar más de una vez, y, por tanto, si fracasa la del 31 de agosto y 2 de septiembre puede haber otra después de las elecciones en Galicia y el País Vasco de finales de septiembre. Si Sánchez quiere hacer sufrir a Rajoy, y todo indica que así es, puede retrasar sus movimientos.

Los ciudadanos estaremos atentos al baile de máscaras. Después de todo, lo pagamos nosotros.

Pedro Sánchez holds the keys as to who governs, and he receives ongoing messages, from both within and from outside his party, requesting that the

PSOE abstains and allows the PP to govern. However, the leader of the PSOE has had a single response: no. It could be said that this refusal is another mask, aimed at neutralising criticism that could be levelled at Sánchez from the left, the same attack they are

launching at Rivera, and accusing him of complicity with the right.

Perhaps, however there could also be a calculated strategy behind that mask. Pedro Sánchez may have concluded that abstaining and putting the government in Rajoy´s hands is more politically costly than forcing new elections. It is also possible that he has reconsidered the dangerous option of attempting a kind of Popular Front with Podemos and separatist parties.

Two more confusing matters to finish. Holding the elections on 25 December is a trick on Sánchez, but in fact it is not obligatory to hold them on Sunday, it is simply a tradition. Lastly, the investiture, like the famous postman, can call more than once. Therefore, if it fails on 31 August and 2 September, there could also be another after the elections in Galicia and the Basque Country at the end of September. If Sánchez wants to make Rajoy suffer, and everything indicates that is the case, he may delay his movements.

Spanish citizens will be paying close attention to the masked ball. After all, we are the ones footing the bill for it.

Apuntó que esto es posible gracias también a un grupo de empresas de la zona a quienes les quiso agradecer públicamente que se vuelquen, año tras año, en hacer que los mayores disfruten de un día que recuerdan y que ansían que llegue durante todo el año.

en la actividad, en especial en el complicado embarque de los abuelos en la embarcación en la que recorrieron las tranquilas aguas del Puerto de Sotogrande.

Sotogrande se prepara para la competición de catamaranes de alta velocidad GC32 Cup después de una temporada de verano llena de acción Del 22 al 25 de septiembre, la Marina de Sotogrande será un espectáculo de catamaranes ya que este año albergará la cuarta etapa de las cinco que hay en el circuito europeo de catamaranes de alta velocidad, el GC32 Racing Tour 2016 El pasado mes de mayo, Sotogrande fue el anfitrión del Campeonato Mundial RC44 de cuatro días para la clase keelboat, en el cuál se proclamó ganador Igor Lah, del equipo CEREEF. En el mes de junio, se celebró también el Campeonato del Mundo de J/80 para una flota de 48 yates de regata.Principio del formulario Más recientemente, a mediados de agosto, Sotogrande ha acogido la regata de alto nivel XVII Regata Copa Sotogrande organizada por el Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande (RCMS), el Puerto de Sotogrande y la Federación Andaluza de Vela.

La Copa Sotogrande CG32 es la continuación de la 35ª Copa del Rey MAPFRE. Esta ha sido dirigida por el Real Club

de torneo. Éstas incluyen una combinación de profesionales y propietarios-conductor de las tripulaciones. Entre ellos se encuentran el Armin Strom Sailing Team, Flavio Marazzi, múltiples navegantes olímpicos; Sharon Ferris, y la única mujer en el CG32 Racing Tour. En el equipo de regatas GUNVOR normalmente hay al menos un medallista de oro olímpico como entrenador.

Generalmente Freddy Loof, ganador de oro en Londres 2012. La MALIZIA - Yacht Club de Mónaco equipo patroneado por Pierre Casiraghi, hijo de la Princesa Carolina de Mónaco.

MAMMA AIUTO!. En el Tour, a bordo se encuentran dos regatistas españoles y un japonés: Manu Weiller, 49 Campeón del Mundo,

Náutico de Palma y tuvo lugar a principios de agosto en Palma de Mallorca. Es la primera vez que este tipo de catamaranes de diseño visitan España. Antes de Mallorca, las dos primeras regatas CG32 Racing Tour se llevaron a cabo en el Lago de Garda. La temporada concluirá en octubre con el Marsella One Design.

Sotogrande gears up for high-speed catamaran GC32 Cup following action-packed summer season Come 22-25 September, Marina Sotogrande will be a spectacle of fast-racing catamarans. This year it hosts the fourth of five stopovers of the 2016 GC32 Racing Tour, the European circuit for the high speed one design foiling catamaran This summer already Sotogrande has hosted the four-day World Championship for the RC44 keelboat class in May, which was won by Igor Lah’s CEREEF team. In June, it hosted the World Championship for a 48-boat fleet of J/80 sportsboats.

La desembocadura del río Guadiaro, un problema que se repite cada verano La problemática surgida sobre la colmatada bocana del río, una situación que no es nueva y que se repite casi todos los años, provoca la discusión sobre competencias entre las diferentes administraciones (local, autonómica y estatal). El primer paso lo dan los propios vecinos y se ponen manos a la obra para la apertura de la desembocadura aunque finalmente Costas aprueba una actuación para la retirada de 10.000 metros cúbicos que serán depositados en la playa de Sotogrande pero al no producirse a tiempo, interviene de urgencia el Consistorio en su apertura 1 Manuel Gil

“Este informe comienza al revés, con la última frase que resume y certifica la finalidad del mismo: la bocana del río Guadiaro se encuentra colmatada.

A partir de ahí, el hilo de conclusiones, competiciones políticas, atribuciones y demás actuaciones parecen carecer ciertamente de mayor trascendencia que la misma: la colmatación de la desembocadura del río Guadiaro, lo que provocará la muerte de peces y numerosas especies que habitan junto a la bocana en el estuario”.

Este hubiese sido el inicio del informe de no ser porque justo horas antes del cierre de esta edición se procedió al inicio por parte del Ayuntamiento, con carácter de urgencia, de abrir la bocana del río.

Resaltar que de una manera muy particular, el día 24 de agosto, se realizó una apertura, al menos de manera mínima con una lengua para el intercambio de aguas, por parte de algunos vecinos de Paseo del Río y del Centro Náutico Sotogrande. Una situación a la que se llegó ante la pasividad de las diferentes administraciones y que finalmente han tenido que ser los propios vecinos, con sus manos, los encargados de tratar de solucionar.

El Consistorio actuó de urgencia, el jueves 25 de agosto, en abrir la bocana con una anchura de cinco metros.

Por su parte, Demarcación de Costas aprobó el miércoles 24 de agosto (dos semanas después) la ejecución, de manera inminente, de los trabajos de apertura de la desembocadura por valor de 60.500 euros y que constará en la retirada de 10.000 metros cúbicos de arena que serán a su vez depositados en la playa de Sotogrande, la cuál también se ha resentido

en pérdida de arena (que ya era poca) con los últimos temporales de levante. Al no producirse esto a tiempo motivó la urgente intervención del Ayuntamiento.

Así explicó la situación Gustavo Rodríguez, uno de los vecinos de Paseo del Río que colaboró con la apertura del pequeño carril. “Han venido representantes de todas las administraciones a ver el bloqueo

de la desembocadura y nadie ha hecho nada aún. Ante eso, los propios vecinos no hemos tenido más remedio que actuar por nuestra cuenta ya que desde hace dos semanas se encuentra taponado el río y las administraciones no han actuado”.

Lo cierto es que desde hace algunos días que este periódico adelantó la noticia del cierre por com-

pleto, taponando la salida natural del río al mar y el intercambio de aguas vital para oxigenación de peces y otras especies que viven en enclave, son muchos los actores [de perfil político] que han entrado en escena repartiéndose la competencia para actuar sobre el terreno.

El primero en denunciar esta actuación fue el alcalde de San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix. El primer edil, a raíz de la información aparecida en la edición digital de El Periódico de Sotogrande (pueden consultar hasta un video en nuestra página web: www.sotograndedigital.com), reclamó y exigió de inmediato a la Demarcación de Costas (administración que depende del Ejecutivo Central), una urgente intervención en el lugar.

Ruiz Boix reclamó de urgencia una actuación que desde el Consistorio se lleva “más de un año reclamando una actuación integral”. “En primer lugar, dragar la bocana donde se ha interrumpido el curso natural del río y que derivará en catástrofe natural como hacen justo tres años, cuando la inacción de la Demarcación de

Costas provocó la muerte de centenares de peces”, explicó el mandatario. El primer edil remarcó la reciente visita del subdelegado provincial del Gobierno Central, Javier de Torre, a Sotogrande para recordarle su “responsabilidad” en este asunto, haciendo alusión a la ejecución de unos trabajos por parte de esta institución a principios del mes de agosto en la desembocadura del río Salado en Conil, en parecida situación.

Recordar, en este punto intermedio, que ante una situación parecida el pasado otoño, concretamente en el mes de octubre, ante el cierre nuevamente de la desembocadura y la inacción de otras administraciones, finalmente entre el Ayuntamiento de San Roque y la empresa Sotogrande S.A. asumieron las labores de dragado en dicha ocasión, prácticamente, como medida de urgencia.

Ante esta situación, en un comunicado, el propio De Torre se pronunció al respecto contestando de esta manera a las “opiniones” del alcalde sanroqueño. El subdelegado provincial del Gobierno explicó que se trataba “de un fenómeno de carácter absolutamente natural, esperado y recurrente” y aseguró que Ruiz Boix “se empeña en acusar al Gobierno Central y a Costas de no actuar para

ocultar la responsabilidad de su inacción”. Además, De Torre, le animó a dejar “de engañar a los vecinos de Sotogrande” y que debía “cumplir con la obligación de la concesión” municipal, en relación a la concesión para las obra que autorizaba la regeneración de la playa de Sotogrande con arena de la desembocadura.

Por su parte, el Partido Popular de San Roque (del mismo grupo político que De Torre), también se postuló en la misma posición, señalando que “la Gestión de la Ca-

lidad Ambiental de los Estuarios y Ríos es competencia de la Junta de Andalucía” y que debía de ser la propia entidad autonómica la encargada de “establecer las medidas de calidad ambiental que eviten los riegos que pueda haber, en este caso, la muerte de peces”.

Para el grupo popular, el “Ayuntamiento tiene ya la autorización de la Junta para sacar arena de la desembocadura por la concesión de la recuperación de la playa, concesión de la que es titular y que con ello solucionaría el problema”. Un

enfrentamiento que se llevó también a las Redes Sociales, incluso, de una manera más acalorada entre activos de ambos grupos políticos locales (PP y PSOE).

También, a raíz de todo este conflicto, el portavoz del PIVG, Jesús Mayoral, mostró su posición instando al alcalde de San Roque [Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix] a “dragar la desembocadura y no eludir responsabilidades”, recordando la actuación del pasado otoño a la que antes se hacía referencia. También detalló que existe en el “presupuesto un Fondo de Contingencia del 0,5% del, por 211.900.18 euros, para atender a actuaciones municipales no comprendidas en el resto de partidas por su excepcionalidad y que posteriormente reclame, si no es una obligación municipal, el coste a la administración correspondiente, ya sea Costas del Estado o Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía”.

A todo esto, el primer edil sanroqueño explicó que se trataba de toda una “desfachatez” y que la apertura del río Guadiaro “no es una competencia municipal”. “El Ayuntamiento concluyó hace dos meses la obra autorizada y hace más de un mes que se comunicó al Gobierno en funciones que renunciábamos a cualquier competencia la respecto”, matizó el regidor.

“Lo que debe hacer Costas es des-

bloquear la salida del río y no marear más la perdiz”, le espetó Ruiz Boix a De Torre, en respuesta las afirmaciones del subdelegado del gobierno en Cádiz. El primer edil recalcó que se habían presentado hasta tres escritos reclamando una actuación urgente en el lugar.

En esta línea, se manifestó también el delegado territorial de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía en Cádiz, Ángel Acuña, resaltando de la importancia de “actuar de inmediato para preservar la riqueza ecológica de la zona”.

Acuña insistió en que “Costas puede actuar en esta zona al igual que procedió recientemente a la apertura de la desembocadura del río Salado en Conil”, sumándose a la misiva anteriormente citada.

Por último, el grupo Vedermar – Ecologistas en Acción, uno de los más activos en el Campo de Gibraltar, se sumó a las reclamaciones al presentar una petición al Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y a la dirección de Costas para la apertura de la desembocadura. Antonio Muñoz, portavoz del colectivo, señaló que la responsabilidad de la bocana no se abra es del Ministerio y que en consecuencia “es responsable de lo que ocurra”. También, desde el grupo, se advirtió de que en caso de aparecer peces muertos se “denunciaría ante la Fiscalía”.

The mayor, through information that appeared in the digital edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande (you can even look up a video on our website www.sotograndedigital.com), called for, and demanded that the Coast Demarcation Department (administration that depends on the Central Government), act urgently in the area.

Ruiz Boix called for urgent action, and stated that the Council has been “calling for comprehensive work for more than a year”. “Firstly, we need to dredge the mouth where the natural course of the river has been interrupted, that will lead to a natural catastrophe just like there years ago, when inaction from the Coast Demarcation Department resulted in the death of hundreds of fish”, explained the leader. In turn, the Partido Popular in San Roque (the same political party as De Torre), also adopted the same position, stating that “Management of the Environmental Quality of the Estuaries and Rivers was the responsibility of the Regional

Government of Andalusia” and that the autonomous community entity should be the one to “establish environmental quality measures that prevent the risks there could be, in this case, the death of fish”. The Partido Popular states that the “Council already has authorisation from the Regional Government in order to remove sand from the river mouth, through the beach recovery concession, a concession that it possesses and that would solve the problem”.

This confrontation also emerged on social networks, and in a more heated form between supporters of both local political groups (PP and PSOE).

The regional delegate for the Environmental Department of the Regional Government of Andalusia in Cadiz, Ángel Acuña had a similar view, and highlighted the importance of “acting immediately in order to preserve the ecological riches of the area”. Acuña insisted that “the Coast Department can act in this area just as it recently acted to open the mouth of the Salado River in Concil”, adding his backing to the previous message.

Lastly, the group Verdemar – Ecologists in Action, one of the most active in Campo de Gibraltar, joined calls to submit a petition to the Ministry for the Environment and the Coastal Directorate in order to open the river mouth. Antonio Muñoz, a spokesperson for the group, stated that the Ministry was responsible for the mouth not being opened, and that consequently, “it is responsible for what happens”. The group also warned that in dead fish appear it “would file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor´s Office”.

La colmatada desembocadura del río Guadiaro es una situación que ha generado el conflicto y debate político entre las diferentes administraciones (local, autonómica

y estatal) sobre el grado de competencias y la responsabilidad de actuación de las mismas sobre el terreno.

Al cierre de esta edición, tras dos semanas de denuncias en

la que poco o nada ha variado la situación, tras un gesto por parte de algunos vecinos de tratar de abrir un canal, como medida de urgencia ante la pasividad de la pro-

pias instituciones, finalmente el Ayuntamiento de San Roque realizó una actuación para la apertura de la misma.

Esta resolución no ha estado exenta durante las dos sema-

San Roque Club evolves, but remains true to itself The magnificent golf complex formed by the Old and New Courses has pitched itself into the new season with a host of changes and, in commercial terms, has set new standards in this part of the country. At the heart of the developments has been the same care and attention to detail as ever, as well as a clear desire to preserve the identity of the club.

San Roque Club Golf, one of the area’s landmark sporting complexes, with two top class golf courses–the Old Course (already renowned around the world) and the New Course–is embarking upon the new season with a number of substantial new developments in place that will turn it into a benchmark in the sector and place it in the vanguard of how golf clubs can operate. And all of this is being done within clearly-defined parameters that preserve and enhance the existing strengths and sense of identity of the club,

with the members playing a key role.

One of the main strategies of this new set-up is the opening of the exceptional New Course where this season golfers will find great new opportunities, with online booking in particular changing the way things work, according to Lidia Muñoz, director of Marketing and Operations at San Roque Club.

“Our grand objective is for the New Course to take its place amongst the best. A fantastic course with more services, more tournaments, more life to it...,

it’s going to make a big impact and be a big hit for the area this season”, she explained, adding that “To achieve this we are going to launch a special offer that no player will want to miss and the web space, with online bookings, will feature strongly, offering great benefits to golfers. One option will be an annual subscription exclusively for the New Course, with different conditions from those of the full members, but with many benefits around the club”; and she did not rule out the possibility of a change of name for the course in the medium term.

And all of this is to take place as part of an overall strategy that aims to establish the club’s topflight golf credentials in southern Europe. Ms Muñoz offered further detail, revealing that “We are working towards providing more and better services

at San Roque Club. We are going to streamline the club’s organizational identity, with new membership cards, score cards, a new club brochure and a new web page, and in mid-September we will be opening the newlook shop.... It’s a package of updates that will raise the club to the highest of levels. We want to evolve the whole way the business operates without the members really noticing. That’s the essential point - renewing everything without affecting the identity and the tone of the club and its members”.

Some of these new developments will take place via the Golf Academy, where from September there will be improved features such as a new Head Golf Professional in overall charge and a team of at least four or five pros available. As mentioned above, there will also be a re-de-

signed Pro-Shop with a Japanese twist, but in keeping with the image of the club, which will launch with a relaxed and fun launch in the form of a ‘Fashion Show’ on 30th August, in which members themselves will act as models, displaying the new Autumn-Winter 2016 clothing collection to other members, thus giving them the chance to be first to acquire items from the range. The thinking behind this is that “It is essential that members feel they have an active role in San Roque Club and that they enjoy the corresponding exclusive privileges and benefits; we are going to increase the role they play”, explained Muñoz.

These are the first steady and positive steps on a new journey for San Roque Club as it aims toward bigger and better things, all the while retaining its unique identity.

Las obras de urbanización de la zona exterior del Pabellón Deportivo del Valle del Guadiaro, en Pueblo Nuevo, avanzan a buen ritmo, por lo que la previsión es que estén terminadas en septiembre. Una vez concluidas, el Ayuntamiento realizará algunos trabajos complementarios de embellecimiento, y se estudia acondicionar plazas de aparcamiento en una parcela cercana.

El alcalde, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, visitó el pabellón junto al teniente de alcalde delegado del Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, y del teniente de alcalde de Obras y Servicios, José Antonio Rojas.

El primer edil indicó que “estas obras estaban incluidas en el Plan de Inversiones 2015, y eran un compromiso que teniamos con los vecinos del Valle del Guadiaro, y especialmente de Pueblo Nuevo”.

“Esta inversión -apuntó el alcaldeinicialmente estaba prevista por algo más de 400.000 euros, pero que una vez que finalizó el procedimiento de contratación se adjudicó por una cuantía muy inferior, de unos 250.000 euros”.

“La empresa -manifestó el primer edil- está avanzando de forma positiva, y ya el perímetro del pabellón se encuentra totalmente acerado, se han introducido las canalizaciones que se necesitaban para conectar el saneamiento del pabellón a la red general, y se ha mejorado también en alumbrado público. Ahora toca perfilar mejoras en la zona de aparcamientos más próxima, lo que resulta muy necesario debido al gran número de usuarios de estas instalaciones, especialmente en horario de mañana.

La previsión de la empresa es que

la obra esté concluida a finales de septiembre”.“Nos quedarán entonces -avanzó- algunas actuaciones que se realizarán desde Obras y Servicios o Emadesa, principalmente para embellecer la zona y para conectarla con par-

celas cercanas. También estamos estudiando si una parcela pública anexa se puede acondicionar para dar cabida a mayor número de plazas de aparcamientos, porque esa es también una de las demandas que tienen los vecinos

de Pueblo Nuevo”, concluyó el alcalde.

La Mesa de Contratación acordó adjudicar en marzo la obra “Urbanización de la Zona Exterior del Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro” a a la empresa Manuel Alba SA por importe de 205.000 euros más IVA, siendo ésta la mejor de las 45 ofertas analizadas. El plazo de ejecución es de seis meses, por lo que se espera que los trabajos estén concluidos a principios de otoño. El Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro se inauguró en julio del año pasado. En segundo lugar, hubo que acometer los trabajos relativos a la urbanización de la zona (saneamiento, alumbrado...), para cuya financiación hubo que aprobar en marzo en Pleno una modificación del Plan de Inversiones 2015.

Fire at Torreguadiaro tower block A fire took Torreguadiaro residents by suprise in the early hours of 19 August as they were sleeping. It took place in the Terrazas del Puerto building at around three in the morning.

According to witnesses at the

scene, the fire started in one of the block´s terraces, as the result of a fault in a lighting panel. Seemingly, the flames spread quickly through the balcony causing even the windows of the property to explore.

Luckily, one of the residents became aware of the matter and ran to alert the other owners, who were forced to leave their houses for safety motives in the middle of the night.

El 10 de septiembre se celebrará un Vía Crucis Extraordinario en homenaje a Ortega Bru 1 Redacción

Con motivo del Centenario del nacimiento del imaginero sanroqueño Luis Ortega Bru, la Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte celebrará una Eucarístia de acción de Gracia y un Vía Crucis extraordinario hacia el Cementerio San Miguel.

Los actos tendrá lugar el próximo día 10 de septiembre de 2016, con lo que se pretende homenajear desde la hermandad de penitencia al ilustre imaginero de la talla del Santísimo Cristo de la Buena Muerte.

La Eucaristía se iniciará a las 20:30 horas en la Parroquia Santa María la Coronada y posterior Vía Crucis hacia el Cementerio, con el recorrido aun por determinar.

Un detenido por robo en el interior de una vivienda, en Guadiaro Agentes de la Guardia Civil, pertenecientes al Puesto Principal de Guadiaro, detuvieron a una persona como presunta autora de un delito de robo. Los hechos tuvieron lugar cuando el detenido entró en una vivienda de la localidad de Guadiaro saltando el muro perimetral de la casa. Tras acceder a la misma, a través de la puerta de la cocina que estaba abierta, sustrajo varios objetos (herramientas, tres relojes, unas gafas de sol y 1 teléfono móvil) que se encontraban en la planta baja de la vivienda.

Los moradores que se encontraban en la planta superior de la vivienda, al escuchar ruidos bajaron, sorprendiendo al autor saltando el muro con una bolsa. Uno de los propietarios del domicilio salió tras el ladrón mientras que comunicaba telefónicamente lo acaecido al Puesto de la Guardia Civil .

The events took place when the arrested person entered a property in Guadiaro by jumping over the house´s perimeter wall. After accessing it, through the kitchen door which was open, he took several objects (tools, three watches, sun glasses and 1 mobile phone) that were on the ground floor of the property.

Those residing on the upper floor of the property came downstairs when they heard noises, and caught sight of the perpetrator jumping over the wall with a bag. One of the owners of the property ran after the thief while ringing the Guardia Civil Unit to inform them of events.

When the patrol arrived, they located the suspected perpetrator of the robbery along with the stolen objects, following an inspection of the area around the property. The corresponding proceedings were opened in relation to events and the arrested person and recovered goods were handed over to the Judicial Authorities.

Las fantásticas y divertidas excursiones de un día nos han dado la oportunidad de aprender nuevas habilidades como el kite surfing, la equitación, el golf, el tenis y el paddle boarding entre otras, al tiempo que hacían aumentar nuestra confianza en un 2º o 3er idioma para comunicarnos con los nuevos amigos y los líderes de campamento en in-

glés y en español.

Algunos de los participantes más jóvenes tuvieron la oportunidad de mostrar sus dotes para la actuación con una fabulosa representación de El Rey León antes sus familias, mientras que otros disfrutaron de horas de pegajosa diversión con las artes y la artesanía.

Chus Mateo, entrenador asistente del Real Madrid, nos acompañó durante dos semanas para organizar unos excelentes campamentos de baloncesto dirigidos a principiantes y veteranos, mientras que nuestra propia Academia

Musical Internacional de Sotogrande nos ofreció dos semanas de educativos campamentos de rock que fueron todo un éxito.

Los campamentos de gimnasia, ballet y cine también fueron algunos de los otros campamentos a disposición de los afortunados que han pasado este verano en el hermoso Sotogrande.

A Magical Summer As the summer holidays draw to an end we reflect on the amazing experiences, good friends and fond memories our summer camps have created this year.

Fantastic and fun day trips gave the opportunity to learn new skills, kite surfing, horse riding, playing golf and tennis and paddle boarding to name a few. Whilst confidence in 2nd or even 3rd languages grew, communicating to new friends and camp leaders in

¿Qué gastos del hogar puede deducirse un autónomo que trabaje desde casa?

Hasta hace poco, la Agencia Tributaria no aceptaba que los trabajadores autónomos que trabajan desde casa incluyeran como gastos deducibles en sus declaraciones de IRPF los gastos del hogar como el gas, la electricidad, el teléfono o el agua, pero una resolución del Tribunal Económico-Administrativo Central (TEAC) les ha reconocido el derecho a deducir la parte de estos gastos que corresponda al desarrollo de su actividad.

Esta decisión tiene carácter vinculante para las Administraciones Públicas, por lo que Hacienda no tiene más remedio que aplicarla.

Anteriormente, Hacienda permitía deducir gastos como

la tasa de basuras, el IBI o la cuota de la comunidad de vecinos, y para ello se tenía en consideración el espacio de la vivienda que se utilizaba para el desempeño de la actividad profesional, pero el problema ahora es fijar una fórmula fiable para determinar la cantidad de suministro de agua, luz, teléfono… que se usa con fines personales y cuál para la actividad laboral. Hasta que se dictó la sentencia, los autónomos tenían que demostrar que los gastos correspondían a la actividad y la Agencia Tributaria podía, incluso, exigir una factura distinta de la emitida por las empresas de servicios para la vivienda, lo que suponía tener dos conta-

dores o dos líneas telefónicas, dificultando la deducción de dichos gastos.

Ahora, los autónomos que tributen en régimen de estimación directa y utilicen su vivienda habitual como lugar de trabajo, pueden deducirse las amortizaciones de la hipoteca, la cuota de la comunidad de propietarios, el Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles (IBI) y otros gastos como la tasa de recogida de residuos o el seguro del hogar en proporción a la parte de la vivienda dedicada al desarrollo de la actividad, pero los gastos correspondientes a suministros no podrán deducirse atendiendo sólo a esa proporción, sino que se deberán

calcular aplicando un criterio combinado de metros cuadrados del inmueble con los días laborales y el total de horas en que se ejerce la actividad, lo que entendemos va a resultar bastante complicado, pues posiblemente el autónomo que trabaja en casa no lo hará sólo durante cinco días como la mayoría y además le dedicará más de ocho horas diarias. Además, el autónomo deberá acreditar que los gastos se derivan de la actividad económica que desarrolla y están vinculados a la obtención de ingresos.

En cualquier caso y para evitar sanciones, es importante saber que se debe comunicar a Hacienda el porcentaje de

What house costs can a freelancer working from home deduct?

Up until recently, the Tax Agency did not allow freelancers working from home to include home costs such as gas, electricity, telephone and water as deductible costs in their personal income tax declarations.

However, a ruling by the Central Economic-Administrative Court (TEAC) has recognised the right to deduce the part of these costs that corresponds to their working activity. This activity is binding for Public Administrations therefore the Tax Authority has no other choice but to apply it.

Previously, the Tax Authority allowed the deduction of

costs such as rubbish collection charges, property tax (IBI), and the resident community fee.

For that purpose, the area of the property used to carry out professional activity was taken into account, however the problem now is establishing a reliable formula for determining the amount of water, light, telephone calls… that are used on a personal basis, and that which is used for professional activity. Prior to the ruling, freelance workers had to show what costs corresponded to their activity and the Tax Authority could even demand a different invoice to that is-

sued by the service companies for the property, which mean having two meters or two telephone lines, which made deducting the costs difficult.

Now, freelance workers that pay tax in accordance with the direct estimate method and use their regular residence as place of work, can deduct repayments from the mortgage, the community owner rate, property tax (IBI) and other costs such as waste collection or home insurance, in proportion to the part of the property used for carrying out the activity. However, costs corresponding to supplies cannot

be deducted only taking into account that proportion. Rather, they should be calculated applying a criteria combining the property´s squared metres with the working days and the total number of hours that the activity is carried out for. We believe that this will end up being quite complicated, as it is possible that freelancers working at home will not only do on five days in the majority of occasions, and also, they will spend more than eight hours per day working. Also, the freelancer will have to give evidence that the costs result from the economic activity

that they carry out and that they are linked to obtaining income.

In any case, and in order to avoid sanctions, it is important to know that you should inform the Tax Authority of the percentage of the property that the freelance worker uses for their commercial activity through form 036 and to apply that percentage to the proportion of deductible costs.

Brunei busca el doblete ante Golden Goose en el Mediano

El polo, deporte de reyes

Estamos acostumbrados a escuchar que el polo está considerado ‘un deporte de reyes’ aunque no siempre ha sido así. Algo que pude comprobar de primera mano en una entrevista que me brindó, en el propio Buenos Aires, Francisco Dorignac, presidente de la Asociación Argentina de Polo, al calificar el polo como “una gran industria sin humos”, refiriéndose a su gran repercusión en la economía y negocios que genera en todos los destinos del mundo en los que se celebran competiciones de este deporte.

En el caso de las temporadas que se juegan con patrones (Estados Unidos, Reino Unido o Sotogrande), la cosa cambia. Sin ir más lejos, hemos visto este verano desfilar por los pasillos de Santa María Polo Club a miembros de diferentes realezas: Dubai, otros emiratos,…, e ilustres personalidades ligadas a este mundo social. Incluso, para la Gran Final de la Copa de Oro, este domingo 28 de agosto, está prevista la presencia del Rey Emérito Juan Carlos I. Más vale tarde que nunca, claro está, ya que hubiese sido muy beneficioso vincular mucho antes a la Familia Real Española con este deporte y con el destino Sotogrande.

En otra línea, a unas horas de que concluya la temporada en Sotogrande se puede realizar un balance muy positivo de lo que significó este 45 Torneo Internacional.

Lamentablemente el número de equipos de Alto Handicap fue corto, sin embargo, no ha sido un impedimento para disfrutar de varias tardes de polo al más alto nivel, resaltando la gran paridad entre los equipos. A la vista está que en ambas Copas (Plata y Oro) se necesitó recurrir a penales para dirimir alguno de los semifinalistas. De este modo, se puede definir que el polo se mantiene fuerte en Sotogrande y esperamos, que cara a próximas temporadas, se consolide con un elenco mayor de equipos, de las más importantes organizaciones mundiales, para seguir disfrutando y presumiendo de tener el mejor polo continental.

Polo, sport of kings We are accustomed to hearing that polo is considered as ‘a sport of kings’ although this was not always so. This I was able to see first-hand in an interview conducted in Buenos Aires itself, with Francisco Dorignac, president of the Argentine Polo Association, who qualified polo as “a grand, smokeless industry”, referring to its important effect on the economy and business it generates in all locations in the world where tournaments are held for this sport.

In the case of seasons that are played with sponsors (United States, United Kingdom or Sotogrande), things change. For instance, this summer we have seen members of the different royal families: from Dubai, and other Emirates …, and celebrities related to this society world, parading around the corridors of the Santa María Polo Club. And for the Grand Gold Cup Final, this Sunday 28th August, we are even expecting the presence of the King Emeritus, Juan Carlos I. Better late than never, of course, as it would have been very beneficial to have created a much earlier link between the Spanish Royal Family and this sport and the destiny of Sotogrande.

Turning to other issues, with the season shortly coming to a close in Sotogrande, a very positive summary can be made of what this 45th International Tournament has meant.

Unfortunately there were not so many High Handicap teams, but nevertheless, this was no impediment to enjoying several afternoons of top-level polo, with special mention of the great parity between teams. It was obvious that in both Cups (Silver and Gold) it was necessary to go to penalties to settle some of the semi-finalists. With this, it can be said that polo is still going strong in Sotogrande and, looking ahead to future seasons, we hope it becomes consolidated with a wider range of teams from the most important worldwide organisations, in order to continue enjoying and priding ourselves on having the best polo on the continent.

Polo Valley celebra con éxito una jornada de puertas abiertas

Polo Valley holds successful open day

El complejo polísitico de Polo Valley, situado a un paso de Sotogrande, ofreció una amena y distendida jornada de puertas abiertas durante este mes de agosto (aprovechando una de las jornadas de descanso del Alto handicap durante la celebración del Torneo Internacional de Santa María Polo Club), para dar a conocer sus extraordinarias instalaciones.

Los visitantes, interesados por el mundo del polo, pudieron comprobar la logística de la que dispone

Polo Valley. Su cancha de polo, la cancha de polo arena, boxes, clases de polo,…, todos los servicios que ofrece al público que permiten situar el mundo del polo: conocerlo, practicarlo y disfrutarlo, al alcance de la mano.

Con una exhibición, asado y visita por sus instalaciones, Polo Valley pudo detallar a los presentes todas las opciones para vivir de la experiencia del polo, siendo el gran protagonista.

The Polo Valley polo complex, located a stone´s throw from Sotogrande, offered a pleasant and relaxed open day in August (taking advantage of one of High Handicap rest days during the holding of the International Tournament at Santa María Polo Club), in order to allow people to discover the extraordinary facilities.

Visitors interested in the world of polo were able to see the logistics on offer at Polo Valley. Their polo field, the sand polo field, horse boxes, polo classes…all of the services it offers to the public, helping to provide the polo world with a greater public profile: the chance to discover polo, practice it and enjoy it, all within easy reach.

With an exhibition, barbeque and visit around the facilities, Polo Valley was able to show those present all the options for enjoying the polo experience, which took centre stage.

Talento y futuro en el Campeonato de Andalucía-España, con los niños como protagonistas Las canchas de Puente de Hierro de Santa María Polo Club acogieron en una agradable mañana el VIII Campeonato de Andalucía-España en categorías Juvenil, Cadete, Infantil y Abierto. Los más pequeños fueron los protagonistas en Sotogrande, con mucho nivel pese a la corta edad y demostrando compañerismo y deportividad como valores a la hora de practicar un deporte tan bonito como el polo.

En categoría juvenil, se impuso Mata del Herrador, y también compitieron El Caracol, Santa Anita y Caballo Blanco. En categoría cadete, primer lugar para FCT, que se impuso a Santa María y Golden

Goose, mientras que en infantil, primer lugar para Chukker App, que venció a La Capilla e Indi. También se pudo disfrutar en Abierto de los más pequeños, que con ayudas de los mayores hicieron las delicias de los presentes en Puente de Hierro.

Mucho talento por parte del futuro del polo, concentrado en Sotogrande, que ofrecieron un espectáculo. Poroto Cambiaso, Alicia Gariador, León Donoso, Facundo García Grossi, Ramón Mora Figueroa, Roberto Iturrioz… muchos apellidos conocidos que ya demuestran que las nuevas generaciones vienen llamando a la puerta.

Talent and promise at the Andalusia-Spain Championship, where kids are the stars Santa María Polo Club’s Puente de Hierro fields hosted the VIII Andalusia-Spain Championship for Under-19, Under-16, Under-14, and Open categories on a lovely morning. This time, kids were the main characters in Sotogrande, playing at a very high level despite their young age, and showing wonderful values such as sportsmanship and fellowship, which are not at all uncommon to the nice world of Polo.

In the Under-19 category, Mata del Herrador came up victorious, and El Caracol, Santa Anita and Caballo Blanco all competed as well. In the Under-16 category first place was received by FCT, which de-

feated Santa María and Golden Goose, whereas in Under-14 Chukker App got the win against La Capilla and Indi. In the Open category the youngest kids enjoyed the game with some help by older players with delightful results for those who attended Puente de Hierro.

A lot of talent was displayed by the future of polo gathered in Sotogrande, offering everyone quite a show. Poroto Cambiaso, Alicia Gariador, León Donoso, Facundo García Grossi, Ramón Mora Figueroa, Roberto Iturrioz.. Many well-known families, proving that the new generations are already knocking at the door.

El IV Triatlón de San Roque ya tiene fecha: el próximo 25 de septiembre

El Circuito afronta sus dos últimas citas clasificatorias: este domingo, 28 de agosto, en Finca Cortesín y el 16 de septiembre, en el Real Club Golf Sotogrande.

Más de un siglo después, el golf fue de nuevo deporte olímpico en los Juegos de Río de Janeiro 2016. Los participantes afrontaron con ilusión el desafío en el Campo Olímpico de Reserva de Marapendi, y la delegación española no iba a ser menos, representada por Sergio García y Rafael Cabrera-Bello en el cuadro masculino y Azahara Muñoz y Carlota Ciganda en el cuadro femenino. No se logró ninguna medalla, si bien el buen papel de Cabrera-Bello (5º) y García (8º) les valió un diploma olímpico.

El torneo de golf masculino alzó el telón en Río. España, con García y Cabrera-Bello y capitaneada por Manuel Piñero, soñaba con lograr una presea. En un torneo regular de ambos, pero lejos de la excelencia de los medallistas, el premio fue un diploma

olímpico para el canario con su quinto puesto tras necesitar 276 golpes en los cuatro días de competición, y otro diploma para el de Borriol, octavo con 277 impactos. El británico Justin Rose mordió la presea dorada (268

golpes), seguido del sueco Henrik Stenson plata (270 golpes), y el estadounidense Matt Kuchar bronce (271 golpes).

Tras el cuadro masculino, Marapendi volvió a acoger acción con las féminas. Azahara Muñoz y Carlota Ciganda eran las esperanzas españolas, capitaneadas por Marta Figueras-Dotti. Unos primeros días de competición ilusionantes que fueron yendo a menos, dejaron a Azahara Muñoz 21ª con 282 golpes y a Carlota Ciganda 39ª con 290 impactos. El oro fue para la surcoreana Inbee Park (268 golpes); la plata para la número uno del mundo, la australiana Lydia Ko (273 golpes), y el bronce para la china Shanshan Feng (274 golpes).

petition. They did not win any medals, but good performances from Cabrera-Bello and García saw them earn Olympic diplomas for their respective 5th and 8th place finishes.

The men’s golf tournament acted as Rio’s curtain raiser, and with García and Cabrera-Bello, and captained by Manuel Piñero, Spain had high hopes of se-

curing a medal. However, with both players having unexceptional tournaments, the prizes were limited to Olympic diplomas for the Canarian, who came fifth, on 276 strokes across the four days of competition, and likewise for the man from Borriol, who came eighth on 277. Briton Justin Rose took the gold (268), followed

by Henrik Stenson in the silver

medal position (270), with the American Matt Kuchar taking the bronze (271).

After the men’s competition, the action at Marapendi continued with the women’s event. The Spanish contenders were Azahara Muñoz and Carlota Ciganda playing under the captain Marta Figueras-Dotti. Early promise in the first few days of the competi-

tion faded away, leaving Azahara Muñoz in 21st place on 282, and Carlota Ciganda in 39th, having taken 290 strokes. El IV Triatlón San Roque ya tiene fecha: 25 de septiembre La cita vuelve a contar con una fiesta previa, en la playa de Torreguadiaro, la jornada antes de la cita deportiva por el entorno de Sotogrande 1 M. Gil

El próximo 25 de septiembre se celebrará el IV Triatlón San Roque, que incluirá una fiesta deportiva en la playa el sábado 24. La Delegación Municipal de Deportesya está preparando esta prueba atlética de resistencia, que combina las disciplinas de natación, ciclismo y carrera a pie, y que tanto éxito tuvo en las tres pasadas ediciones.

Así, el sábado 24 de septiembre a las 17.00 horas se celebrará en la playa de Torreguadiaro un Acuatlón Infantil, al que seguirán una Fiesta DXT-playa y la recepción oficial. La jornada del domingo 25, cuando se celebre la prueba deportiva en sí, comenzará a las 8.00 horas con la entrega de dorsales. A las 10.30 saldrán los deportistas masculinos y a las 10.40 las féminas, para procederse a las 12.30 horas a la entrega de premios.

Las inscripciones se pueden realizar

hasta el 22 de septiembre, a un precio de 20 euros para deportistas federados y de 25 para los no federados. El número máximo de participantes se ha fijado en 250, y se puede obtener más información y proceder a la inscripción en www.sanroque.es.

Chris Walker, del Hercules Triatlon de Gibraltar, fue el vencedor absoluto, por tercer año consecutivo, del III Triatlón San Roque (Tri-San Roque), que se celebró en septiembre de 2015

en la zona de Sotogrande. La ganadora absoluta femenina fue Victoria Bandera, del Real Club Mediterráneo.

Participaron un total de 155 deportistas, y la prueba se componía de tres segmentos: 750 metros a nado; 20 kilómetros de prueba ciclista; y 5 kilómetros de carrera a pie. La salida y meta se situó en Puerto Sotogrande (Ribera del Marlin), donde también se llevó a cabo la entrega de trofeos.

Eso será el 24 y 25 de agosto, y por lo pronto, el torneo de golf se llevó a cabo con una gran participación.

En cuanto a los premios, el ganador Scratch fue Alfonso Martínez (Las Minas) con 31 puntos. En las demás categorías, jugadas a Stableford individual, el reparto de premios fue: 1ª Categoría de caballero, campeón Antonio Morales hijo con 42 puntos, y segundo Antonio Morales padre con 39. 2ª Categoría Caballero: campeón Alejandro Mayoral con 39 puntos y segundo Manuel Justo con 29. En Damas, Maca Rein-Loring fue primera con 45 puntos y María Luz López segunda con 35.

The event was organised by Almenara and is to be followed by a two night event at the hotel, which will be attended by the acclaimed local Malagueño chef Jose Carlos García, awarded with a Michelin Star, taking place on August 24 and 25. So far, the gold tournament has been very successful in attracting participants.

Los campos de fútbol municipales están experimentando una serie de mejoras financiadas por el Ayuntamiento, entre ellos el de La Unión donde juega el CD Guadiaro. El alcalde, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, y el teniente de alcalde de Contratación y del Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, comprobaron la finalización de las obras.

Explicó el primer edil que “se vienen realizando obras en distintas instalaciones deportivas municipales de cara a dotarlas

de mayor seguridad y acercarlas a las demandas de los clubes. Nos encontramos en el campo de fútbol de La Unión, que utiliza principalmente el Club Deportivo Guadiaro. En este caso se ha realizado un hormigonado y pulido de todo el perímetro del campo de fútbol, se han hecho mejoras en el graderío y se ha instalado una puerta amplia para el acceso de ambulancias”.

“También -añadió el alcalde- se están realizando unas vallas de

seguridad en el Campo Alberto Umbría de la barriada de la Estación. Las dos actuaciones, tanto la de aquí de Guadiaro como la de la Estación, están contempladas en un contrato con un importe global de 22.000 euros”.

Tres poderosas razones para movilizarte en bicicleta La bicicleta es a menudo elogiada como medio de transporte por ser eficiente y no contaminante, pero ¿qué quiere decir esto exactamente? A continuación enumeramos tres ponderosas razones por las cuales la bici es la mejor opción hacia la creación de ciudades ambientalmente sostenibles: 1. Tienen energía incorporada La cantidad de energía y la huella de carbono requeridas para producir una bicicleta es pequeña en comparación con muchas otras formas de transporte. Existen variaciones según el tipo de bicicleta y otros factores externos, pero incluso teniendo esto en cuenta, la bicicleta tiene un bajo consumo de

energía incorporada. Además, la construcción de un carril para la circulación de ciclas utiliza menos energía que las carreteras para los automóviles, lo que requiere una menor cantidad de espacio y unas bases mínimas.

2. Calidad del aire Si suficientes personas cambiaran su forma de transporte contaminante a una bicicleta –transporte con cero emisiones de carbono– existiría la posibilidad de reducir la contaminación y mejoraría notablemente la calidad del aire en nuestras ciudades.

Cada persona que pasa de conducir un coche a montar en bicicleta es responsable de

la reducción de emisiones de carbono en su medio ambiente del mejoramiento de la calidad del aire en la ciudad.

3. Contaminación acústica Contaminar es mucho más que emitir emisiones de carbono. Los niveles de ruido en las ciudades también se pueden considerar un contaminante, con riesgos asociados a la salud a largo plazo. De hecho, el ruido puede aumentar los niveles de hormonas del estrés como el cortisol, la adrenalina y la noradrenalina en el cuerpo, incluso durante el sueño.

Algunas ciudades destacan la contaminación acústica en sus agendas de soste-

nibilidad. Vancouver por ejemplo, con su “Plan de acción para llegar a ser la ciudad más verde del mundo en 2020” imagina un futuro muy sostenible previendo ‘menos contaminación y un aire más limpio, menos ruido proveniente de las máquinas y más proveniente del canto de los pájaros “. Para esto, se sugiere el uso de la bicicleta como una forma clave de reducción de la contaminación acústica.

En conclusión, una ciudad que dependa de las bicicletas más que de otras formas de transporte automatizado requerirá de menos energía, emitirá menos carbono, y producirá menos ruido.

Additionally, bicycle lane construction is less energy intensive than roads for automobiles, requiring a smaller amount of space and minimal foundations.

Air quality A bicycle’s environmental sustainability is about more than just low embodied energy. If enough people switch from polluting

transport modes to a bicycle – a zero emission form of transport when in use – there is potential for reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality in our cities.

Noise pollution Pollution is about more than just emissions. Noise levels in cities can also be considered a pollutant, with associated long term health risks: Noise can increase the levels of stress hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenalin in the body, even during sleep. The longer these hormones stay in circulation around the bloodstream, the more likely they are to
