Cuando se levanta la hoja del calendario del mes de agosto, 31 un días espectaculares y todo un privilegio vivirlos en un destino como Sotogrande, se antoja casi imposible no girar la cabeza y ver lo que ocurre a unos escasos kilómetros de la urbanización. En temporada alta de llegada de visitantes y cuando muestran los lugares de índole turística toda su efervescencia (Sotogrande incluido); se vive un paradigma bien diferentes y de consecuencias proporcionalmente opuestas en otros puntos de la Comarca del Campo de Gibraltar. Hace falta echar la vista atrás, al menos cuatro o cinco años, para encontrar unas cifras parecidas a la inmensa oleada de llegada de inmigrantes a las costas gaditanas. Municipios como Tarifa o Algeciras se encuentran

prácticamente desbordados ante tal masiva llegada de personas desde el norte de África que cruzan, algunas veces en estrambóticas e inseguras embarcaciones, el Estrecho de Gibraltar para llegar a tierras europeas. Dicho sea de paso, en muchas ocasiones, para continuar con su agraviado y desfavorable caminar hasta otros destinos del continente (Francia, Bélgica, Almena, etc.). Nunca mejor dicho, frontera de paso. Incluso aquí, en San Roque, polideportivos se han tenido que habilitar y poner a disposición de los servicios de atención y ONG’s para dar cabida a tal masiva llegada de personas. Reacciones se encuentra de todo tipo estos días en los diferentes medios de comunicación, con alusiones a interpretaciones de distintos representantes políticos de toda índole

y repercusión. Sí, casi todos ellos con alguna frase que albergan una clarividente actitud hacia reconducir esta situación que a todos luces llama poderosamente la necesidad de una intervención de magnitud europea. No es un problema local, ni nacional; es un fenómeno que traspasa fronteras y que necesita de medidas a gran escala y los organismos europeos deberían actuar en consecuencia. Pero ello no debe hacerse ni en caliente, ni con personas necesitadas de atención y cuidados sobre el terreno. Ahora es momento de actuar y de mostrar la solidaridad que atesora nuestra cultura nacional y andaluza. Una vez pasada la gran oleada sí será el momento de que los poderes políticos tomen el protagonismo y actúen y decidan en consecuencia. Pero ahora, es necesario actuar y ayudar.

When we turn the page of the calendar to August, with 31 spectacular days ahead of us and the privilege of spending them somewhere like Sotogrande, it seems almost impossible not to turn our heads and see what is happening just a few kilometres away from the urbanisation, as well. At the time of year when the most visitors arrive, and when popular tourist resorts (including Sotogrande) are at their most vibrant, there is a very different story, and one with very different consequences, going on elsewhere in the Campo de Gibraltar region. We would need to look back at least four or five years to find statistics similar to those of the immense numbers of immigrants arriving on the coast of Cádiz province at present. Towns like Tarifa and Algeciras are finding

it hard to cope with the massive arrival of people from North Africa who cross the Strait of Gibraltar, sometimes in flimsy and unsafe little boats, to reach European soil. By the way, on many occasions, this is just the first step on a difficult and unpleasant journey to other places on the continent (France, Belgium, Germany etc). In that sense, this is a border crossing. Even here in San Roque, sports centres have had to be quickly prepared and placed at the disposition of the services and NGOs which attend to the migrants, because of the huge numbers arriving. There have been reactions of all types in the media, with quotes from politicians of different parties and their views. Most of them have shown an almost clairvoyant

attitude in insisting on what they think needs to be done to resolve this situation, which clearly needs massive intervention from the European Union. This is neither a local nor national problem; it is a phenomenon which crosses frontiers. It necessitates measures on a large scale and the European organisations should act as a consequence. But this should not be done in haste, not with people who need help and care on the ground right now. This is the time to act and show the solidarity for which our national and Andalusian culture is well-known. Once this massive wave has passed, it will be the time for the political powers to sit down and decide what has to be done, but right now we should take action and give these people the assistance they need.

Comienza el espectáculo Hoy te escribo a ti, precisamente a ti, bienvenido y felizmente aterrizado en este rincón del mapa. Quizás hayas escuchado hablar en medios de comunicación, amigos y familiares de lo que supone vivir y disfrutar de la ‘Sotogrande Experience’ (como simpáticamente hemos titulado el 1 José Luis García Informe de esta edición). Editor/Director Conocer un mes de agosjlgarcia@grupohcp.com to en la urbanización no es asunto a la ligera, más si cabe, el conjunto social y urbano que rodea un enclave de este tipo (noticias salpicadas por narcotráfico, inmigración, desempleo, déficit sanitario, etc.), invita poco al optimismo, al menos durante el resto del año, pero por unos días, Sotogrande acaricia una sensación tan espectacular como efímera, ya que días más tarde todo volverá a la normalidad (que no es poco). Es una ilusión muy singular que bien podría desaparecer por el paso de los años, monotonía o rutina pero no es así. Es una bombilla que se enciente cada inicio del agosto en nuestra memoria y pensamiento. Es la singularidad de reunir en poco más de tres semanas la esencia de un lugar maravilloso al que a muchos

atrapa y se acaba convirtiendo en tres décadas. Como es el caso del que escribe y lo que probablemente te acabe ocurriendo a ti. Sotogrande no se puede conocer por sus perímetros ni a larga distancia. Es necesario cruzarlo, atravesarlo, caminarlo y por supuesto entenderlo. Integrarte en una comunidad que registra más de 60 nacionalidades diferentes en perfecta armonía con un resultado políglota, multicultural e impregnado de lo mejor de diferentes lugares del mundo. Comienza a latir desde el origen, su club de playa y Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. Recorre toda la playa hasta la emblemática escuela de vela y su imponente estampa con coloreados catamaranes en la orilla. Se alcanza en un desayuno en la terraza del Hotel Club Marítimo Sotogrande y un buen pescado frente a los pantalanes en Midas. La ‘vidilla’, gastronomía y comercio en La Marina de Sotogrande, la exclusividad de la zona alta y la potencialidad del nuevo desarrollo de la urbanización en La Reserva Club y The Beach. El reconocimiento internacional con sus selectos campos de golf en el que siempre sobresale, por mérito propio, un nombre: Real Club Val-

derrama; y la magnitud de un evento como el que organiza Santa María Polo Club cada verano con algunas de las organizaciones y polistas más importantes del planeta (con el impacto económico tan elevado que ello conlleva). Las mañanas de mercadillo, los cócteles solidarios, los chiringuitos y las discretas cenas en el jardín de las villas de Sotogrande. Todo un espectáculo. Por todo ello, te invito a que lo vivas y disfrutes. A ti, que acabas de llegar por primera vez y descubres un lugar como nunca antes habías visto, y a ti también, que llevas más de cuarenta veranos deleitándote con lo que ya consideras tu hogar. Nuestro objetivo, un agosto más, será contártelo y llevártelo hasta las páginas del periódico, el teléfono móvil o la Tablet. Lo más rápido posible y con la mejor calidad, en ello nos va el cometido. Y además, seguiremos peleando por mayor seguridad y prevención ante incendios, que las tasas de agua y basura no se alteren ni crezcan, que modifiquen y actualicen el desvío de la A-7 hacia Torreguadiaro, en conseguir que el Puesto Principal de la Guardia Civil continúe operativo, que exista una conexión segura peatonal entre las vías de servicio de Pueblo Nuevo, que la playa de Sotogrande mantenga sus metros de arena, que este agosto no se cierre la desembocadura del río Guadiaro y por supuesto, haciéndoselo llegar de la mejor manera posible y de la forma que entendemos. Este año cumplimos el 20 aniversario en El Periódico de Sotogrande y queremos seguir llevándote la información y la actualidad de un lugar tan especial como este. The show begins Today I am writing to you, precisely to you, welcome and I hope you have landed happily in this spot on the map. You may have heard the media, friends and family talk about what it means to live in and enjoy the “Sotogrande Experience” (as we have affectionately named the Report in this edition). Discovering an August in the resort is not a matter to be taken lightly, and the social and urban framework surrounding an area of this type (news peppered with drug trafficking, immigration, unemployment, a healthcare deficit, etc.) does not encourage optimism, at least during the rest of the year, but for a few days, Sotogrande cherishes a sensation that is as spectacular as it is ephemeral, as days later everything will return to normality (which is no small thing). It is a very unique illusion that could certainly disappear with the passing of the years, monotony or routine, but that has not happened. It is a lightbulb that switches on at the start of every August in our memories and thoughts. It is the uniqueness of bringing together the essence of a marvellous place in just three weeks, that captivates many people and ends up becoming three decades. This is what happened to me, and it will probably end up happening to you. Sotogrande cannot be discovered through its perimeters or remotely. You need to cross it, go through it, walk it and of course, understand it. Integrate yourself into a community with more than 60

different nationalities in perfect harmony with a multilingual and multicultural result, and imbued with the best of the world´s different destinations. It begins beating at its origin, its beach club and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. Explore the entire beach up to the emblematic sailing school and its impressive view with colourful catamarans on the shore. It is attained with a breakfast on the terrace of Hotel Club Marítimo Sotogrande and some good fish dish overlooking the jetties at Midas. The liveliness, gastronomy and business in Sotogrande Marina, the exclusivity of the upper area and the potential of the resort´s new development at La Reserva Club and The Beach. The international renown, with its select golf courses where one name always stands out, in its own right, a name: Real Club Valderrama; and the magnitude of an event like the one organised by Santa María Polo Club every summer with some of the most important organisations and polo players on the planet (with the really high economic impact that this entails). The mornings of the market, charity cocktail evenings,

beach bars and discreet dinners in the garden of Sotogrande´s villas. A real spectacle. That is why I invite you to experience and enjoy it. Our objective, one again this August, will be to tell you about the area and put it into the pages of the newspaper, mobile phone or Tablet. Doing so in the quickest way possible and with the best quality, that is our objective. Also, we will continue to battle for greater safety and fire prevention, to ensure that water and waste rates do not change or increase, that the diversion of the A-7 towards Torreguadiaro is changed and updated, to get the Main Unit of the Civil Guard to remain operational, to have a secure pedestrian connection between the service roads of Pueblo Nuevo, to have Sotogrande maintain its metres of sand, to make sure that the mouth of the Guadiaro River does not close over and of course, to inform you about all this in the best way possible and the way that we know how to. This year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of El Periódico de Sotogrande and we want to keep bringing you the information and news in a very special place like this one. Un incendio, de pequeñas dimensiones pero muy aparatoso por su ubicación (justo a la espalda de la conocida tienda de cerámica y las fruterías en la travesía frente a la gasolinera), prendió un tramo de vegetación baja a poca distancia del acceso a Torreguadiaro desde la autovía A7. Al aparecer dos focos, según las autoridades no se descarta que pudiese ser intencionado. Las llamas obligaron a cerrar el acceso a las canchas de Los Pinos de Santa María Polo Club por ambas vertientes (desde la gasolinera y por La Mari-

na de Sotogrande), alternando la primera gran jornada de polo del verano, ya que en su interior se disputaba la final de la Copa de Bronce de Alto HCP. El fuego, que se localizó en la zona trasera de los comercios situados frente a la gasolinera de Montilla, y aunque el fuego no llegó a cubrir mucha superficie, al aparecer dos focos, complicó la actuación de los servicios de emergencia y además alimenta la idea de que pudiera ser provocado. Fue precisamente sobre las 18.00 horas cuando se tuvo la

primera noticia del fuego, que fue controlado pronto. Sin embargo, una hora más tarde apareció otro foco a una distancia de unos 500 metros, lo que suma enteros a la sospecha de que sea intencionado. Sobre las 20.30 horas, del domingo 29 de julio, ya estaba controlado, y que los Bomberos estaban refrescando la zona. El Consistorio local agradeció el trabajo a todos los efectivos de los distintos cuerpos implicados: Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos, Plan Infoca, Guardia Civil y Policía Local de San Roque.

EasyJet anunció un nuevo servicio entre Gibraltar y el aeropuerto de Londres Luton que comenzará el 4 de diciembre de 2018. El servicio operará dos veces por semana – martes y sábados – durante todo el año, mediante una aeronave Airbus A319. Las tarifas comenzarán a partir de 15,72 libras. De este modo, el aeropuerto de Londres Luton se une a los de Bristol, Londres Gatwick y Manchester en la red de rutas de EasyJet desde Gibraltar. Ali Gayward, Responsable de País para el Reino Unido de EasyJet, manifestó: “Nos sentimos muy satisfechos de aumentar los

EasyJet announces new connection with London from Gibraltar EasyJet has announced a new service between Gibraltar and London Luton Airport which will begin on 4 December 2018. The service will operate twice a week – Tuesday and Saturday – throughout the entire year, via an Airbus A319 plane. The rates will begin at 15.72 pounds sterling. Thus, London Luton joins the airports of Bristol, London Gatwick and Manchester in the network of EasyJet routes from Gibraltar. Ali Gayward, EasyJet Country Manager for the United Kingdom, stated: “We are really satisﬁed to increase the services from Gibraltar and to add a fourth service to

the United Kingdom to our Gibraltar network. We continue to observe an increase in the number of travellers who wish to ﬂy with EasyJet on our routes to Gibraltar with accessible prices and a journey of approximately two and a half hours. We are certain that the new service to London Luton will be popular with both business and leisure travellers. We maintain our strong commitment to serve Gibraltar and support the growth of tourism and business via our easy and accessible rates”. Gilbert Licudi, the Minister of Tourism and Commercial Aviation, declared: “This is great news

that shows EasyJet´s commitment to Gibraltar. Dos agentes de la Guardia Civil, fuera de servicio y ayudados por bañistas, rescataron y reanimaron a una mujer de setenta años de edad, con síntomas evidentes de ahogamiento, la cual había sufrido un desvanecimiento mientras se bañaba el pasado martes en la playa de Puerto de Sotogrande. Los dos efectivos, del Puesto Principal de, disfrutaban de un día libre con sus familias en la referida playa, cuando observaron una persona flotando en el mar aparentemente inconsciente, por lo que acudieron a su rescate. Una vez en la orilla, los Guardias Civiles comprobaron que la persona socorrida había entrado en parada cardiorrespiratoria, por lo que procedieron a practicarle las

Woman rescued from the sea by Sotogrande Port Two off-duty Guardia Civil officers, with the help of other people, rescued and resuscitated a 70-year-old woman who nearly drowned after passing out while swimming off the beach beside Sotogrande Port on Tuesday. The two officers, who were enjoying a day off with their families on the same beach, rushed to the rescue when they saw somebody floating in the sea, apparently unconscious. After bringing her back to shore they realised she had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest, and proceeded to try to resuscitate her with the help of several others who identified themselves as nurses. After 15 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the woman began to breathe and her heart started again. The emergency services arrived at that point, stabilised her condition and then transferred her to hospital in La Línea de la Concepción.

Hoy, tu problema tiene Mediación Comunicar sin miedo Hay quien llega a mediación con muchísima dificultad para decir lo que realmente quiere del otro. Cuándo pasa y, los bloqueos del pasado limitan, ayuda ir a lo concreto, a los hechos particulares -aquella frase, gesto, comentario, lo que sea-. Explicarlos objetivamente -sin juicios- es dar el primer paso. El segundo: pedirle al otro que comprenda que eso que hizo o hace habitualmente, no te gusta. Sobre el papel parece sencillo pero, abrirse con honestidad y confianza cuando ya te han dicho varios noes de mala manera, exige de bastante asertividad y firmeza. Lo menos arriesgado para motivar al otro sería premiar, castigar, culpar, chantajear, cosas así… y, aunque está comprobado que, tanto la exigencia como el juicio, generan resistencia, hay veces que parece imposible hacer las cosas de otra manera. En una mediación a los participantes les cuesta menos mantenerse firmes y asertivos. El clima ayuda a hablar sin temor y con delicadeza. A veces, simplemente, escuchar al otro con atención durante un buen rato y luego decir ¿te puedo explicar lo que significa esto para mí?, es más eficaz que adelantarse con una avalancha de argumentos. Comprender no implica aceptar la acción, pero sí muestra la intención de llegar a un acuerdo.

La Fundación Esperanza y Alegría celebra el próximo 8 de agosto, en el Club de Playa El Octógono, la XI edición del Bazar Solidario con el fin de recaudar fondos para sus proyectos en la India. El bazar solidario estará abierto al público de 11 a 21 horas y la entrada es gratuita. Habrá más de 20 puestos con artículos de artesanía de la India, joyas, ropa mexicana e India, cosméticos, ropa para niños y para el hogar, complementos típicos de la India, sedas japonesas, bisutería, objetos de oro, etc. También, como es habitual, habrá una rifa solidaria en la que se sortearán varios regalos. que el pasado año, en 2017, este mismo evento recaudó cerca de 11.000 euros, que se destinaron a apoyar los proyectos que la Fundación tiene en marcha y, en especial, a aquellos que mantiene

Today, your problem has Mediation Communicating without fear There are those who arrive at mediation with great difficulty saying what they really want from the other person. When this happens, and the mental blocks of the past are limiting, it helps to be specific, to look at particular facts -a phrase, gesture, comment, whatever it is-. Explaining them objectively, without judgement, is the first step to take. The second step: asking the other person to understand that you do not like what they did or do regularly. This seems simple on paper, but opening up honestly and with trust when you have already received lots of refusals, requires quite a lot of assertiveness and resolve. The least risky thing to motivate the other would be to reward, punish, blame, blackmail, things like that...and, although it is shown that, both demands and judgement generate resistance, there are times when it seems impossible to do things any other way. In a mediation session, the participants have less difficulty remaining firm and assertive. The climate helps to talk without fear and delicately. Sometimes, simply listening to the other attentively for a good while and then saying, “Can I explain what that means for me?” is more effective than pre-empting with a barrage of arguments. Understanding does not mean accepting the action, but it does show the intention of reaching an agreement.

“Espero mucho de la sociedad y poco de los políticos” 1 Manuel Gil

Cambio de gobierno, de presidente, primarias en el Partido Popular,…, unos meses demasiado agitados, ¿no cree? Es verdad. Por recordar la vieja locución latina, los políticos no son buenos para el pan, pero a cambio suelen entretener con unos circos moviditos. Si hay que abrigar esperanzas en el futuro, y yo las abrigo, nunca es gracias a los políticos sino al vigor de la sociedad civil. Vamos, a pesar del Gobierno, no sé si le suena… ¿En qué gana y pierde el ciudadano con todos estos sobresaltos? Sólo gana en diversión como acabo de apuntar. Los costes pueden ser más o menos onerosos, en función de la capacidad de daño de las autoridades. El nuevo Gobierno socialista parece estar dispuesto a causar estropicios en diferentes ámbitos. Si tenemos suerte, no gozará del tiempo suficiente para llevar plenamente a cabo sus proyectos más antiliberales. Se habla de una subida de impuestos que parece inevitable… …igual que la muerte, ya lo decía Benjamín Franklin. Efectivamente, como acabo de apuntar, si tiene tiempo, la izquierda está dispuesta a dañar otra vez al pueblo, empezando por las carteras de la gente, ya bastante golpeadas por la gestión de la derecha. Hace poco le escuché en una entrevista hablar sobre tributos tan estrafalarios como el impuesto de sucesiones, especialmente en Andalucía ¿Estamos ya cansados de que nos tomen el pelo? Este es un motivo para el optimismo. Da la sensación de que sí

i “Los políticos pueden ignorar a los analistas pero no tanto a las protestas en la calle” estamos cansados de que se burlen de nosotros con el más antiguo cuento político, que es: “no os preocupéis porque todo esto lo van a pagar otros”. Esta mentira tiene quizá ya menos solvencia, y lo hemos visto en varios lugares de España, y destacadamente aquí en Andalucía, con las protestas populares contra ese atraco a mano armada que es el Impuesto de Sucesiones. Ojalá la resistencia continúe, porque los

políticos pueden ignorarnos a los analistas, pero no tanto a los que protestan en la calle y en los medios, indignados por los sablazos fiscales. ¿Qué opina de las nuevas medidas como la tasa a los bancos o el incremento del combustible? ¿Acabaremos pagando todos esas subidas? No le quepa la menor duda. Pero, y esto es lo más importante, se extiende entre la opinión pública la conciencia de que cuando Pedro Sánchez y los suyos juraron que nunca les subirían los impuestos a las trabajadoras, mentían como bellacos. Cuanta más gente perciba el camelo, menos recorrido tendrá.

Celebro verle por Sotogrande un verano más, ¿cómo ha encontrado la urbanización? ¿Qué le parece The Beach, la gran novedad de la temporada? He encontrado Sotogrande muy bien, y la playa mucho mejor que el verano pasado. Y, hablando de playa, The Beach es el no va más: el mar sin el mar. En Sotogrande nos faltan cosas, y nuestro periódico las señala siempre, pero no falta espíritu emprendedor. ¿Cómo disfruta Carlos Rodríguez Braun del verano en Sotogrande? ¿Dónde lo podemos encontrar? ¡Disfruto en Sotogrande del verano y de las demás estaciones! Por suerte puedo trabajar desde aquí, como saben mis lectores y

mis oyentes de Onda Cero. Estoy en Sotogrande un día de cada tres que tiene el año. En el verano, es verdad, más que en ningún otro momento. Me pueden encontrar haciendo la compra, en la playa con mi familia (ya tengo siete nietos…), cenando por ahí con mis amigos, en los sitios de siempre y también en los nuevos, en el polo, la farmacia y la gasolinera, en el puerto y en las tiendas, en el teatro de Antonio Garrigues, caminando temprano todas las mañanas por Paseo del Parque y el puente sobre el Guadiaro para ir a por los periódicos, etc. En fin, quien no me encuentra es porque no quiere. Por ir a sitios, siendo calvo, voy incluso a las peluquerías…

“I expect a great deal from society and very little from politicians” A change of government and prime minister, elections for a new leader of the Popular Party… the past few months have been rather busy, haven’t they? That’s true. There’s an old Latin saying, that politicians are no good for bread, but on the other hand they keep us entertained with a few circuses. If we are to have hope for the future, and I do, it won’t be thanks to the politicians but to the eﬀorts of society. In spite of the government, I would say, in fact… In what ways do people win and lose with all these changes? They only win in terms of entertainment, as I said. The costs can be more or less onerous, depending on the ability of the authorities to cause damage. The new socialist government seems to be prepared to make a mess of things in diﬀerent areas. If we’re lucky, it won’t have time to fully carry out its most anti-liberal projects. They say that tax increases seem inevitable…

and the media, outraged about the ﬁscal abuses.

Those and death are the only certain things in life, as Benjamin Franklin said. Yes, as I said, if the left has enough time then it is prepared to damage the population once again, starting with our wallets, which have already been badly hit by the way the right have been running things. Not long ago, I was listening to an interview about some of the bizarre taxes, like the inheritance tax, especially in Andalucía. Are we tired of them pulling the wool over our eyes, now?

This is a reason to be optimistic. There is an impression that we are tired of them making fun of us with the oldest political story, which is: “don’t worry, it’ll be other people who pay for all this.” This lie is maybe less accepted these days; we have seen it in diﬀerent places in Spain and especially here in Andalucía, with the protests against the armed robbery that they call Inheritance Tax. Hopefully the resistance will continue, because the politicians can ignore analysts, but it’s harder for them to ignore people protesting in the street

¿ What do you think of the new measures, such as the tax on banks and the rise in fuel prices? Are we going to end up paying all these increases? There is no doubt about that whatsoever. But, and this is the most important thing, the public is becoming aware that when Pedro Sánchez and his team swore that they would never raise taxes for working women, they were lying through their teeth. The more people realise that they are bluﬃng, the harder it will be for them to do it. It’s great to see you in Sotogrande again this summer; how have you found the urbanisation this time? I’m lucky enough to be able to work from here, as my readers and listeners on Onda Cero already know. I’m in Sotogrande one day in every three throughout the year, although more so in summer than at any other time, it’s true. You’ll ﬁnd me shopping, on the beach with my family (I have seven grandchildren now…), eating out with friends, in all the usual places and also in the new ones, at the polo, in the pharmacy, in the port and the shops, in Antonio Guarrigues’ theatre, taking an early morning walk along the Paseo del Parque and the bridge over the Guadiaro to fetch the newspapers, etc. In other words, if somebody doesn’t see me, it’s because they don’t want to. Talking of places, being bald, I even go to the hairdressers….

Tourism is providing optimum occupancy figures at the start of the key weeks of summer. Beaches in prime condition with all the services operating for users. The perfect moment. Sotogrande, the resort and everything that comes together in the intense life of Valle del Guadiaro and its most immediate area of influence, is heading into the key period of the year on a social, sporting and economic level. The epicentre of luxury and lifestyle, in terms of activities, life and content, is experiencing its hottest time with the arrival of August. This month metaphorically breaks the peace and quiet as the year heads towards a few exciting weeks, normally concentrated between the last week of July and up until at least the third week of August; when everything happens and can be seen in Sotogrande. The perfect time for tourism, leisure, fun, entertainment and especially, for the commercial and services sector in the area. The resort presents its best version for the “illustrious visitors”, you simply need to see how the repainting work of the UCE for the Parks of Sotogrande intensified in the lower area; as well as the pruning, improvements and fitting out of areas such as Sotogrande Marina and the Sporting Marina. Tourism and services The area has had the best rates for the arrival of visitors and tourists (for short, medium and long stays) in recent times (in the edition of 14 August we will review the tourism and hotel activity with greater precision in the Report). The assessments and occupancy records are over 70% on average and full at weekends, in most hotel complexes, and above 85/90% on average. Likewise, as we explained in another report about new property

opportunities throughout this edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande, rentals, once again this summer, find themselves with a saturated market where demand is almost higher than the offer with significant growth in the profitability of tenants. Companies from the services, restaurant and leisure sector also find this period to be an ideal time to round up the annual balances. The opening of new premises in Sotogrande Marina (mostly devoted to the hospitality industry) endorse the good period that this sector is going through. Full terraces and shopping premises (divided between Mercado de Levante, the Sporting Marina and the shopping village of Santa María Polo Club); are home to the

main new additions of the season and show the good turnover that these business people are experiencing at this point of the season. The traditional Sunday market, as well as the night market in the evening-night every Wednesday and Thursday, further increases the range of options for enjoying emblematic points in the resort this August. Beach and rest The beaches on the coastline of the resort and the entire immediate surroundings, beginning with the route from Cala Sardina to Guadalquitón, passing through the beaches of Torreguadiaro, Sotogrande Port and Sotogrande (beach club area), are in a good state in terms of the quality of

maintenance and conservation. There are Blue Flags on three of them (Cala Sardina, Torreguadiaro and Torrecarbonera-Faro); the lifesaving services and other services available (reading points, units, water activities, beach bars, kiosks, etc.); offer an extensive range of resources for enjoying a fantastic day at the beach. Beach clubs with a good level of attendance and the emergence (with its recent opening on 16 July) of The Beach at La Reserva Club, the first private beach in Spain with natural sand, have a range that that other high-level tourism and residential destinations like Sotogrande find it hard to compare with. A really first-rate complex, a large scale chill-out area that positions

Sotogrande as a benchmark on a continental level. A large project that has had an impact on the area with investment costs of close to seven million Euros, that has directly created more than 70 jobs, and had an even greater indirect impact with the contracting of people and companies in the area. A very recommendable place to visit to enjoy a spectacular day, with swimming, activities and of course, to enjoy the select gastronomy. Sport and entertainment An implicit part of Sotogrande´s DNA, sport is a crucial pillar of life, especially in summer in the resort, although it takes place throughout the year. There are dozens of tournaments and

championships organised during this period by the different golf clubs within the perimeter of the resort. Many of them have a charitable aspect and each year they charitably collaborate with important causes. The celebration of regattas, with an especially important role played by the Sotogrande Regatta Cup which takes place on 10, 11 and 12 August; is another of the great summer attractions in the resort. You only need to spend a morning on the wellknown ´catamarans beach´ in order to enjoy the beautiful image repeated each summer with all the ´hobbie-cat´ and ´optimist´ vessels, on the shore with children about to take their morning class at the Sailing School. And of course, as you would expect, polo emerges every August as the king of summer in Sotogrande. This year, the 47th edition of the Santa María Polo Club International Tournament once

again has a spectacular set-up at its pitches (including pitches at Ayala Polo Club this year), with more than 110 matches divided between the Bronze, Silver and Golf Cups, as well as the extraordinary shopping village with more than 20 leading brands and an area for children, leisure and gastronomy. El portavoz del PIVG, Jesús Mayoral, denuncia el estado de “abandono de la parcela del TG 22 de Torreguadiaro, además del aspecto de dejadez de uno de los puntos más transitados por los turistas por encontrarse en la carretera de acceso al Puerto de Sotogrande,”. Además, sugirió que “se ha convertido también en un peligro de incendio que puede afectar a las casa colindantes de los vecinos de la calle de la Iglesia”. Detalla que “años atrás se ha obligado a la limpieza de la totalidad de la parcela a la empresa Werh, adjudicataria de la misma, aunque haya estado sin desarrollar urbanísticamente por el litigio que ya lleva 17 años, sin resolver , pero era esta empresa como dueña de la parcela tenía que realizar la limpieza y mantenimiento de la misma”. “Ya lleva dos o tres años que la parcela no se limpia y las delegaciones de Discipli-

gos una noche inolvidable. La Reserva Club celebró ‘Luna Lunera’, el primer gran evento del nuevo espacio llamado ‘The Beach’. Además de exquisita cena, compañía y servicio, homenajeaban a Federico García Lorca y a la cultura andaluza. El ronqueo de un atún en Supercor acerca este arte a Sotogrande La actividad se repite el próximo, viernes 10 de agosto, al mediodía 1 Álvaro López

El verano siempre es una buena época para aprender cosas nuevas. Vivimos en la costa, y Sotogrande se nutre del mar para el entretenimiento. De ahí que los residentes y visitantes de la urbanización suelan ser amantes del mar. Ese es el motivo de que Supercor estuviera rebosante de personas dispuestas a presenciar en directo la tradicional técnica del ronqueo del atún. El ronqueo, organizado por Almadraba Petaca Chico, consistió en el despiece de un excelente ejemplar de unos 170 kilos, capturado en la zona del Estrecho.

El ronqueo es el nombre que se da a esta técnica, y que procede del sonido similar a un ronquido que genera el cuchillo al rozar el espinazo del atún. Se trata de una técnica tradicional, propia de toda la costa atlántica de Cádiz, y que los mejores maestros siguen desarrollando para la posterior comercialización de un producto muy preciado. Ángel Ramírez y José Sebastián Aragón fueron los responsables de, cuchillo en mano y con la elegancia y precisión de un cirujano, de extraer las diferentes partes del atún, mientras Alber-

to Sánchez Muñoz explicaba a los allí presentes lo que se estaba haciendo en cada momento. Sacaron todas las piezas principales, explicaron el uso que se les daba, y demostraron que del atún se puede aprovechar prácticamente todo. Las piezas, ya preparadas para la venta, las iban pasando a la pescadería de Supercor, ubicada justo enfrente de donde se estaba realizando el ronqueo, para la posterior venta. Precisamente, todavía no había finalizado del todo el proceso de despiece cuando numerosos clientes (y

espectadores) se iban acercando a adquirir la preciada carne del atún. Este atractivo turístico nos seguirá acompañando durante

el verano en Sotogrande, pues el 10 de agosto a las 12:00 tendremos un nuevo ronqueo en Supercor.

La Guardia Civil interviene 335 kilos de droga en un garaje de Guadiaro 1 Manuel Gil

Agentes de la Guardia Civil intervinieron un total de 11 fardos de hachís, con un peso aproximado de 335 kilogramos, ocultos en el garaje de una vivienda en Guadiaro. Efectivos del Puesto Principal de Guadiaro que se encontraban realizando servicio de seguridad ciudadana en un zona residencial hallaron la puerta del garaje de la vivienda abierta y con aparentes signos de haber sido forzada. Tras una inspección ocular del citado garaje, los agentes localizaron en el interior del mismo diez fardos de arpillera de los que

suelen usarse para transportar hachís, así como dos vehículos, una furgoneta y un todoterreno, ambos sustraídos y el segundo de ellos con matrícula falsa. En el transcurso de la inspección ocular, los Guardias Civiles observaron luz a través de una de las ventanas de la vivienda y escucharon ruido en el interior de la misma. Por todo lo expuesto, ante la sospecha de que los moradores pudieran encontrarse en el interior de la vivienda, se solicitaron refuerzos a la Central Operativa de Servicios (COS). Una vez acordonada la zona para

evitar una posible huida d, patrullas de la Comandancia de la Guardia Civil de Algeciras realizaron una batida de los aledaños, encontrando en un camino de tierra a unos 50 metros del garaje otro fardo de arpillera con hachís. Guardia Civil instruyó las correspondientes diligencias policiales de los hechos, las cuales en unión de la droga intervenida y los vehículos recuperados fueron puestas a disposición de la Autoridad Judicial. Actualmente se están efectuando investigaciones para identificar y detener a los autores de los mismos.

Members of the Main Unit in Guadiaro, who were carrying out a civic security service in a residential area found the garage door of the property open and with apparent signs of having been forced. In view of the above, and with the suspicion that the inhabitants could be inside the property, they requested reinforcements from Services Central Headquarters. Having cordoned off the area to prevent a possible escape, patrols

from the Civil Guard Command Unit of Algeciras carried out a sweep of the surrounding area, and found another sackcloth bundle on a dirt track around 50 metres from the garage. The Civil Guard opened the corresponding police proceedings of the events, which were handed over to the Judicial Authority, along with the seized drugs and the recovered vehicles. At present, investigations are being carried out to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

At this second edition, the Fair will travel to 4 locations with the aim of bringing the event to all the population hubs. In the Northern Area it will take place at the fair enclosure of Guadiaro, on 3 and 4 August; in the Bay it will be at the Alameda de San Pedro in Puente Mayorga, on 31 August and 1 September; and in the Inland Area it will take place in the Plaza de San Bernardo in La Estación, on 7 and 8 September. The general objectives of this fair are to boost businesses in the municipality, create a networking space among companies and encourage e1 tourism in the area. Also, for companies it will be a chance to discover a representative sample of their products, establish contact with future clients and boost inter-company relations. The I Trade Fair took place in June last year at Sotogrande Marina. It is an experience worth repeating according to the majority of the participants consulted. The I Trade Fair organised several parallel activities for those visiting.

 La Ruta del Calor de Daikin, una iniciativa para animar y refrescar el verano en algunas de las localidades españolas más visitadas la temporada estival, realizó un parada, por segundo año consecutivo, en la playa de Torreguadiaro. Una cita redeada de distintas actividades para que los bañistas se diviertan y hagan frente al calor estival; además de la entrega de regalos y sorteos. El distribuidor en Sotogrande y todo el Valle del Guadiaro oﬁcial de Daikin es Easy Clima (en Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro). 1 y 2

Resumen de imágenes de la actividad ofrecida por Daikin Easy Clima en la playa de Torreguadiaro para promocionar la marca climatizadora y regalar numerosos premios y obsequios a los usuarios y bañistas en la zona.

Sotogrande es un lugar para toda la familia y en el que los más pequeños de la casa tiene un papel muy protagonista, especialmente, vinculado al deporte. Por un lado, con las academias y escuelas de golf, siendo sin duda, la municipal de La Cañada una de las más activas y que más eventos acoge (también en verano). Por otro lado, la Escuela de Vela es uno de los puntos más emblemáticos de la urbanización. Cada agosto congrega a numerosos jóvenes que aprenden a navegar y dan sus primeros compases en el mar.



San Enrique de Guadiaro disfrutó un año más de su feria por todo lo alto. Como es tradición, la coronación y el pregón de la feria abrierron los actos institucionales. La cabalgata, tan colorida y animada como siempre, la comida de mayores y por supuesto, un pleno Domingo Rociero, con caballistas y actividades en la Caseta Municipal, llenaron de música, alegría y buen ambiente el fin de semana de Feria a San Enrique de Guadiaro.

Educación Colegio San José XXXI Torneo de Tenis Colegio San José El XXXI Torneo de Tenis Colegio San José tendrá lugar en Estepona del 25 al 31 de agosto en el Club de Tenis Bel-Air. Es un torneo federado en el que se juegan todas las categorías, desde Benjamín hasta Absoluto, masculino y femenino. Convoca cada año a deportistas de todas las edades procedentes tanto de España como de otros países y tiene una dotación de 9000 euros en premios. Surgió como iniciativa de D. José Manuel Álvarez Gil, fundador del Colegio San José, con el objetivo de fomentar en los jóvenes el tenis base. A lo largo de los años esta

tradición ha sido continuada a través de la Escuela de Tenis y Pádel del colegio. La acogida del torneo es muy positiva, cada año suelen participar cerca de 200 jugadores entre los que se cuentan campeones de Andalucía, de España y jugadores de la ATP (Asociación de Tenis Profesional). Muchos repiten ediciones, como por ejemplo Daniel Monedero, que fue campeón de España y que ha ganado todas las categorías de este torneo desde Benjamín hasta Absoluto. Deportistas de élite han pasado por sus distintas ediciones, como

el campeón de Wimbledon Junior Alejandro Davidovich, el campeón de España Daniel Monedero, Carolina Gago, Mª del Carmen Villalba, Sergio Gómez Barrios, Emilio Álvarez, Iván Ezquerdo, Ana Martín, José María Troyano, Mathew Short, Beatriz Cabrera, Natividad López, José Jiménez Pajarero, Estrella Cabeza Candela… La fase final y clausura tendrán lugar el martes 31 de agosto en las instalaciones del Club de Tenis Bel-Air. XXXI Colegio San José Tennis Tournament The XXXI Colegio San José Tennis Tournament will take place in Estepona from 25 to 31 August at Bel-Air Tennis Club. It is a federated tournament, in which all the categories play, from Under-10´s up to the main category, men´s and women´s categories. Each year it brings together sportspeople of all ages from Spain as well as other countries and it has a prize purse of 9,000 Euros. It arose as an initiative of Mr José Manuel Álvarez Gil, the founder of Colegio San José with the aim of encouraging grassroots tennis among young people. Over the years this tradition has continued

through the School´s Tennis and Padel Club. The tournament is received very positively, each year close to 200 players normally participate, including champions from Andalusia, Spain and players from the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals). Many come back year after year, for example Daniel Monedero, who was Spanish champion and has won all of the categories of his tournament from the Under-10´s to the Main category. Retrato indiscreto Cuando se tiene un modelo nítido ante los ojos siempre se escribe bien. Juzguen ustedes a través de mis palabras si es o no clara la imagen que albergo de Jakub de Orodona, el retratado en este artículo. Le conocí en el anfiteatro del Hôtel-Dieu de Pa✑ Clara Zamora Meca rís. Enseguida dejó ver Doctora en Hª Arte y su carácter viril como Profesora Univ. Pablo fuegos de artificio. Nos de Olavide, de Sevilla presentó un príncipe polaco destronado, aristócrata decadente que vivía muy cerca de la locura y la lujuria. Creo que aquello fue lo mejor que hizo en su ya finalizada vida. Para Mr. Orodona comenzó entonces el “jardín de sus suplicios”; fue algo así como el inicio de su fond noir a contenter, que le turbaría el resto de su existencia. En cambio, para mí comenzaba a iluminarse el camino, salían los corceles a dominar mi caprichosa voluntad. Quizás deba en este punto aclarar al lector que yo soy –como ya escribieron antes otros- la herida y el cuchillo, la mejilla y la bofetada. Espero provocarles en este punto una emoción de extrema ternura. Retornando al motivo que nos ocupa, el individuo a re-

tratar encarna en sí mismo el supremo ideal masculino. Para explicarme mejor, haré una analogía con las palabras que Gautier dedicó a la que, para él, era la más superior de las mujeres: Cleopatra. “El hombre más completo que haya existido nunca, el más hombre y el más rey, un tipo admirable a quien las musas no han podido agregar nada, y que las soñadoras encuentran siempre al ﬁnal de

sus sueños”. Pueden ustedes ahora esbozar la sonrisa de la Gioconda, empequeñeciendo sus ojos de lector atónito. Orodona suele bromear con los infantes y dejar tranquilo a los santos, como dice el adagio. Deseo recrearme, con júbilo simbólico, en los poemas sinfónicos de este individuo de ancestros polacos. Con expresión concentrada, solemne y casi augusta, este señor aúna en su personalidad la fuerza de las matemáticas y la armonía de la mejor música wagneriana. Como Giorgio Aurispa, tiene la voluptuosidad dolorosa de la introspección, provocando, incluso, el debate a su alrededor de si la belleza griega de su aspecto físico se podría deber a que no tiene ni una gota de sangre corriendo por sus venas. El color marmóreo, la exquisitez de sus movimientos, la actitud siempre adecuada y la introspección estudiada hacen plantearse a más de una si este individuo es, efectivamente, una escultura que sigue todos los cánones clásicos o un referente en la adecuada estética del más excelso dandismo cargado de sensualidad. En cualquier caso, su belleza física es un espectáculo de rango menor comparada con otras virtudes que le sonríen, como la coherencia o la clarividencia. La última Navidad, en Cracovia, reunió a toda su familia. Estoy muy lejos de continuar un retrato auténtico de este ser tan extraordinario, pero de lo que no me cabe ninguna duda es de que su compañía es un desafío por estar a la altura de los hombres que respetan, que son dueños de una voluntad de hierro y que vencen siempre con el amor.

Devolución del IVA a clientes no comunitarios Ya está en marcha el nuevo sistema DIVA que ha sido desarrollado por la Agencia Estatal de la Administración Tributaria española, para la digitalización del sellado de la prueba de salida de TAX FREE. Con este sistema, la Agencia dispondrá de la información de las ventas susceptibles de devolución del IVA, siempre que el bien adquirido sea superior a los 90,15 euros. El nuevo sistema electrónico tiene actualmente carácter voluntario pero a partir del 1 de enero de 2019, será el único sistema válido en España.

En la actualidad, el proceso de visado en aduana del producto en España, se realiza de dos formas: con un sello de caucho en la oficina de la aduana de salida y el visado digital que se podrá efectuar tanto en un quiosco como en la oficina de la aduana de salida. Los puntos de sellado electrónico están disponibles en los principales puertos y aeropuertos de España y en nuestra zona, tenemos quioscos disponibles en el Aeropuerto de Málaga, en los puertos de Algeciras y Tarifa y en La Línea. A partir de ahora, el proceso de devolución comenzará en

el mismo establecimiento y para poder utilizar este sistema hay que registrarse en la sede electrónica de la AEAT y contar con certificado digital. El vendedor deberá expedir dos documentos: una factura y el DER o documento electrónico de reembolso, que puede cumplimentarse online. Este documento no tiene por qué llevarse impreso y puede llevarse al punto de sellado en soporte digital, móvil o tablet. Esta copia llevará un Código Seguro de Verificación (CVS) que permitirá al viajero conocer en todo momento el estado del proceso de devolución so-

licitada. Una vez comprado el producto y expedidos estos dos documentos, el turista que desee que le devuelvan el Iva del artículo, deberá presentar el bien y los documentos correspondientes en la aduana. Allí le remitirán la factura o DER visado por la aduana al vendedor, quien será el encargado de devolverle el IVA en un plazo de quince días, mediante un cheque, transferencia o abono en la tarjeta de crédito. Con este nuevo sistema se trata de simplificar el trámite de devolución de IVA que deben realizar los comercios y agi-

Return of the VAT to Non-EU clientes The new DIVA (VAT Return) system is now up and running, developed by the State Agency of the Spanish Tax Administration, for the digitalisation of the seal as proof of TAX FREE clearance. With this system, the Agency will have the information about sales that qualify for the return of VAT, provided that the good purchased is worth more than 90.15 Euros. Dubai proclaimed champion of Bronze Cup The ball is beginning to roll in Sotogrande and there is already a first winner of the summer in the HCP High handicap category. Dubai was crowned champion of the Bronze Cup at the International Polo Tournament, after beating Bardon Polo Team 12-10 in the final. This is the first big trophy awarded at the 47th edition of this sporting event, considered one of the four most important in the world. Out on pitch IV at Los Pinos, Dubai and Bardon reflected the fact that the first trophy was up for grabs. The team formed by Alfredo Capella, the brothers Camilo and Bartolomé Castagnola and Rashid Albwardy took victory after making a comeback against the team of Alejandro Muzzio, Alejo Taranco, Matías Machado and Andreas Tambor, which dominated the first part of the game. In the end, Dubai, with two goals in the final stage, lifted the prized cup. This event is only the prelude for the exciting month of polo to be experienced in Sotogrande up until 1 September.

El inmejorable proyecto que plantea para la zona de Puente de Hierro para romper la estacionalidad con la modalidad del Salto como disciplina cumbre, hila un calendario único en Europa y fortalece ese vínculo entre polo y salto que sólo Sotogrande puede albergar. El Corporate Lounge en la cancha III de Los Pinos sirvió de escenario para realizar la protocolaria presentación y puesta de largo de una nueva edición del torneo, rodeada de importantes marcas, con cerca de veinte equipos y algunos de los mejores jugadores de polo del mundo. Un apasionante mes, lleno de polo, en el que se disputarán más de 100 partidos y del que se espera que supere la aﬂuencia de público en una cifra por encima de los 100.000 espectadores a lo largo de agosto. La puesta en escena, dirigirá por Alejandra Carazo (SMPC), estuvieron presentes diferentes autoridades del mundo de la política, ámbito empresarial y social. Intervinieron, por este orden,

el recién nombrado director de Santa María Polo Club, Antonio Ortiz; el vicepresidente de la Federación Española de Polo, José María Trénor; el alcalde de San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix; y el vice-consejero de la Delegación de Turismo y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía, Diego Ramos. En las diferentes exposiciones se analizaron y enaltecieron los valores deportivos, turísticos y económicos que despiertan en Sotogrande un evento internacional de primer nivel como el Torneo Internacional de Sotogrande. Entre todas, destacó la intervención del nuevo presidente, Antonio Ortiz, que adelantó con algunas pinceladas el nuevo proyecto de expansión y desarrollo de Santa María Polo Club, protagonizado por una fuerte apuesta por la hípica, concretamente por el Salto, en las instalaciones de Puente de Hierro.

The 47th International Tournament begins At the Santa María Polo Club, everything was organised perfectly to start the ball rolling for the 47th International Polo Tournament. The Corporate Lounge on field III at Los Pinos was the setting for the official presentation and launch of the new edition of the tournament, which boasts many important sponsors, about 20 teams and some of the best polo players in the world. An exciting month lies ahead, and there will be plenty of polo to enjoy: more than 100 matches will be taking place and more than 100,000 spectators are expected to attend during August. The presentation, introduced by Alejandra Carazo (SMPC), was attended by different authorities in the political, business and social spheres. The speakers,

in order, were the recently appointed director of Santa María Polo Club, Antonio Ortiz; the vice-president of the Spanish Polo Federation, José María Trénor; the mayor of San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix; and the Junta de Andalucía’s deputy minister of Tourism and Sport, Diego Ramos. The speakers analysed and highlighted the various sporting, tourism and economic values which a top level international event such as the International Tournament of Sotogrande brings with it. The new president of the Club, Antonio Ortiz, also gave details of the new plans to expand and develop the Santa María Polo Club; he said the project includes a strong commitment to equestrian events, especially jumping, at the Puente de Hierro facilities.

Los cuatro ases de la baraja David ‘Pelón’ Stirling, Facundo Pieres, Juan Martín Nero y Pablo Mac Donough, que compite este año en Mediano HCP, forman la constelación de ‘dieces’ en Sotogrande este año. El Torneo Internacional de Polo, de Santa María Polo Club, reúne cada agosto durante un apasionante mes, con más de 100 partidos en liza, a varios de los mejores jugadores del mundo. Un año más, la cita cuenta con varios jugadores que son diez goles de handicap (máximo nivel de un polista profesional en el mundo), concretamente cuatro. Facundo Pieres competirá con La Indiana y tratará de revalidar el título de ganador de la Copa de Oro que consiguiese en la última edición con Ayala Polo Team. Por su parte, Lechuza Caracas, regresa un año más con un tándem que promete triunfos como es el formado por Juan Martín Nero y el uruguayo, forjado en Sotogrande, David ‘Pe-

lón’ Stirling; dispuesto a dar mucha guerra. Y por último, Pablo Mac Donough, competirá este año en el Mediano Handicap de la mano de Brunei Team. Miguel Ángel Jiménez conquistó su segundo título Grande del año, The Senior Open presented by Rolex, con una última vuelta de 69 golpes y 12 bajo par en el total para imponerse por un golpe de ventaja al alemán Bernhard Langer en el Old Course de Saint Andrews, “el mejor escenario posible donde todo golfista sueña con ganar”. El malagueño (Churriana, Málaga, 5/1/1964) está protagonizando una excelente temporada en el circuito de los veteranos, en el que suma ocho Top ten incluyendo una victoria y un segundo puesto: ganó su primer Grande en mayo (Regions Tradition) y fue segundo en el US Senior Championship. Y en los cuatro torneos que ha disputado en el European Tour no ha bajado del puesto 20º: fue 7º en Hong Kong, 19º en Dubái, 14º en Italia y 12º en Austria. “Ha sido una victoria

Llega una nueva edición de la clásica regata de agosto en Sotogrande, una tradición que cada año pone toda la emoción y competición del mundo de la vela en aguas de la urbanización. La XIX edición de la Regata Copa Sotogrande vuelve un agosto más, en esta

ocasión, del 10 al 12 de agosto, tres apasionantes jornadas con varios trofeos en liza en una de las citas náuticas de referencia durante el verano. Este año, además de abrir el programa de competición con la IV edición del Memorial Antonio Muñoz Cabrero, en

el que suele tomar partido una amplia representación local de catamaranes; se unen como dos de los trofeos en disputa de mayor rango: el Trofeo 20 Aniversario de El Periódico de Sotogrande y el Campeonato de Andalucía de Cruceros ORC.

Una regata que cada año da cabida a embarcaciones llegadas desde diferentes puntos del litoral gaditano y malagueño y que acoge una importante variedad de categorías (catamaranes, J80 y cruceros, entre otras). El acto final del evento será el

próximo domingo, 12 de agosto, con la celebración de la tradicional cena para los regatistas y ceremonia de entrega de premios. En esta ocasión, a partir de las 21:00 horas en el nuevo espacio The Beach, a los pies de la Casa Club de La Reserva de Sotogrande.

Más de ochenta jugadores se dieron cita en el magnífico recorrido Old Course de San Roque Club para disfrutar de la cuarta prueba del Circuito de Golf Sotogrande. El buen ambiente, las condiciones excepcionales del campo y las altas temperaturas fueron, sin duda, las notas más destacadas de la jornada deportiva. Desde las nueve de la mañana, el juego se desarrolló en el campo con un nivel exigente, que puso las cosas muy difíciles a los golfistas. El viento, no muy acusado, fue otro de los invitados al encuentro, haciendo que muchas partidas tuvieran que lidiar con él y sus consecuencias en cada hoyo. Tras varias horas de espectáculo, los

jugadores encontraron, como siempre, su recompensa en la Casa Club, donde Grupo HCP los aguardaba con su tradicional cóctel, en el que no faltó el mejor jamón, de manos de Ibéricos Covap, el buen vino, a cargo de Marqués de Riscal, y los combinados más refrescantes, getileza de Grey Goose y Bombay Sapphire. Y, una vez repuestas las fuerzas perdidas en el la batalla, llegó el tiempo de los premios. La Bola más cercana fue parra Juan Manuel García Vega y el Drive más largo, indistinto, lo ganó Marisa Artés Carrasco. En Damas, el primer premio fue para Marta Carrillo, seguida de María Luisa Artés y Sandra Hilinger. En Segunda de Caballeros, el primer puesto lo

obtuvo Juan Vaquero, seguido, en segunda y tercera posición, por Francisco López y Pablo Ollero. La Primera Categoría de Caballeros, se la llevó Dan Bannister, acompañado en el podium por Antonio Cidoncha y Sergio Ruiz (segundo y tercero respectivamente). San Roque Club raises bar of event More than eighty players gathered at the magnificent Old Course at San Roque Club to enjoy the fourth event of Sotogrande Golf Circuit. The good atmosphere, the exceptional condition of the course and the high temperatures, were undoubtedly the most notable aspects of the day of sport. From nine in the morning, the game took place on the course with a demanding level, that made things difficult for the golfers. The wind, which was not too sharp, was another of the guests at the event, and meant that many of the rounds had to battle against it and its consequences at each hole. After several hours of the spectacle, as always, the players enjoyed their reward at the Club House, where Grupo HCP awaited them with its traditional cocktail, which

did not lack the best ham, provided by Ibéricos Covap, good wine, courtesy of Marqués de Riscal, and the most refreshing mixed drinks, courtesy of Grey Goose and Bombay Sapphire. And, having regained the energy they had used up in the battle, it was time for the prizes. The Closest Ball prize went to Juan Manuel García Vega and the Longest Drive Prize, again was won by Marisa Artés Carrasco. In the Women´s Category, first prize went to Marta Carrillo, followed by María Luisa Artés and Sandra Hilinger. In the Men´s Second Category, first place went to Juan Vaquero, followed, in second and third place, by Francisco López and Pablo Ollero. Gavira y Herrera logran el bronce en el europeo de voley playa

El sanroqueño Adrián Gavira y el castellonense Pablo Herrera se hicieron en Holanda con el bronce en el Campeonato de Europa de voley playa. La pareja española se impuso por 2-1 a los rusos Semenov-Leshukov en un partido intenso que se decidió en el “tie-break”. Herrera y Gavira tiraron de su experiencia y supieron reponerse en los momentos clave para acabar logrando una victoria por 2-1 (21-17, 13-21 y 1512) que les coloca en el podio de la clasificación europea. En una calurosa tarde en La Haya, Herrera-Gavira comenzaron

controlando el encuentro. En el primer parcial fueron los claros dominadores, imponiendo su juego y protagonizando puntos de gran belleza. Con ventajas de dos y tres puntos, el dúo nacional fue controlando el tanteador y la renta no la dejaron escapar (21-17). El segundo set fue otra historia. Los rusos, pese a prácticamente comenzar con el susto de una posible lesión, mantuvieron la concentración y, aprovechando los errores de los españoles, adquirieron una ventaja de hasta siete puntos en algún lance del encuentro, lo que puso cuesta

arriba el set para Herrera-Gavira. Estos intentaron reponerse y recortar distancias, pero estuvieron mucho más imprecisos que en el primer set y no pudieron evitar el 13-21 en contra. La medalla iba a decidirse en el ‘tie-break’ y en él Herrera-Gavira no fallaron. The San Roque player Adrián Gavira and Pablo Herrera of Castellon took bronze in European beach volleyball championship in Holland. The Spanish paring won 2-1 against the Russians Semenov-Leshukov in an intense game that was decided in the tie-break. Herrera and Gavira availed of their experience and were able to recover in the key moments in order to attain a 2-1 victory (21-17, 13-21 y 15-12) that put them on the podium of the European rankings. El croquet es uno de los deportas más clásicos y tradicionales, especialmente en temporada estival, en Sotogrande desde los inicios de la urbanización. Como no podía ser de otro modo, el Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, con la colaboración de Felipe López de Carrizosa,

presenta un agosto muy entretenido con diferentes competiciones. Entre los días 6 y 7 de agosto se celebra el II Torneo CASER en Modalidad individual sin handicap. Por otro lado, el 10 de agosto, se celebra el II Torneo de Verano entre jugadores del Real Club de

Golf Sotogrande y Real Club de Golf Vistahermosa, por parejas. En la misma modalidad se disputa también el 17 de agosto, el II Torneo de verano entre participantes del Real Club de Golf Sotogrande y Real Club Pineda de Sevilla.

Los dieciocho hoyos del Club de Golf La Cañada acogieron durante dos jornadas la celebración de su Gran Premio Alevín y Benjamín, una prueba que reunió a algunas de las más jóvenes promesas del golf andaluz y que se celebró en dos categorías, sin distinción de sexos. En categoría alevín, el federado por Alcaidesa Links, Sebastián Desoisa, firmó un vueltón espectacular de 69 golpes, para hacerse con el triunfo, gracias a un acumulado de 147 golpes (+5). En categoría hándicap, Cristina Albertazzi fue la ganadora con 132 golpes netos. En cuanto a la clasificación benjamín, el jugador de Cabopino Golf, Eladio Dano Pérez ocupó el primer lugar con un acumulado de 82 golpes (+10), tres menos que Daniel de la Serna. En categoría hándicap, el triunfo fue para Daniel García, con 64 golpes netos. En total, han sido medio centenar de jugadores los que participaron en la competición alevín y 28 los que lucharon por el triunfo entre los benjamines. Mientras que los jugadores de categoría alevín jugaron 18 hoyos bajo modalidad stroke play scratch cada día, los benjamines disputaron 9 hoyos al día bajo el mismo formato.

Variations exist based on bicycle type and

other external factors, but even taking this into consideration, the bicycle has a low embodied energy. Additionally, bicycle lane construction is less energy intensive than roads for automobiles, requiring a smaller amount of space and minimal foundations. Air quality

A bicycle’s environmental sustainability is about more than just low embodied energy. If enough people switch from polluting transport modes to a bicycle – a zero emission form of transport when in use – there is potential for reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality in our cities.
