Acelerar, frenar y acelerar

El movimiento se demuestra andando, nunca mejor dicho, y para ello todo el entorno y partes implicadas en el desarrollo y evolución de un destino: llámese comunidad, llámese tejido empresarial, llámese instituciones y administraciones públicas, deben remar en la misma dirección y bajo los mismos criterios de prosperidad, compromiso, crecimiento y, por qué no, sostenibilidad, un concepto que tenemos que incorporar a nuestro día a día y a todos nuestros proyectos. Como bien se comentó en un muy respaldado foro empresarial hace sólo unos días en la Comarca, un proyecto sostenible que “no es viable”, no es un proyecto sostenible en sí.

Esta edición de El Periódico de Sotogrande, que justamente agarra el mismo día en el que arranca la edición 2022 del Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters en el Real Club Valderrama (nada es casualidad, ya saben), presenta una serie de discordantes informaciones y de discrepancias en varias de sus páginas y contenidos.

Por un lado, se pueden apreciar los magníficos, extraordinarios, datos a nivel económico y turístico que la zona ha registrado en el último trimestre, unos balances y estadísticas que superan con creces las comparativas pre-pandemia y que no tiene por qué vincularse como un “mirlo blanco”. Son señal y constatación de que se están haciendo cosas importantes y muy bien en la zona que ayudan a impulsar el interés por Sotogrande como destino y si es más allá del mero periodo estival, mucho mejor, como ahora ocurre vinculado al golf.

Pero también está el contrapeso de posibles incompatibilidades en el sentido sostenible y varias contradicciones en el perfil medioambiental en algunos proyectos. Probablemente, como todo en la vida, la solución está en los grisesynoenlosextremos.Trabajemostodosdelamano, por el desarrollo de proyectos sostenibles y viables pero que permitan el desarrollo económico, social y productivo de una zona que va a más y que incrementa su población cada día.

Accelerate, slow down and accelerate

Movement is shown by moving, never better said, and to this end the environment and parties involved in the development and evolution of a destination; call it a community, call it a business network, call it public administrations, need to row in the same direction and with the same criteria of prosperity, commitment, growth and, why not, sustainability, a concept that we have to incorporate into our daily life and all of our projects. As stated in a very well supported business forum just a few days ago in the Province, a sustainable project that “is not viable” is not a sustainable project in itself.

This edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande, is in your hands on the same day that the 2022 edition of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters is getting underway at Real Club Valderrama (nothing is a coincidence you know) is presenting a series of discordant information and discrepancies in several of its pages and content.

On one hand, it is possible to appreciate the magnificent, extraordinary data on an economic and tourist level that the area has recorded in the last quarter, assessments and statistics that are much better than the pre-pandemic comparisons and that don´t need to be viewed as a “rare bird”. They are a sign and evidence that important things are being done very well in the area that help to encourage the interest in Sotogrande as a destination and if it goes beyond the mere summer period, then much better, as is the case now linked to golf.

However, there is also the contrast of possible incompatibilities in terms of sustainability and several contradictions on an environmental level in some projects. Probably, like everything in life, the solution lies in the nuance and not in the extremes. Let´s all work hand-in-hand, for the development of sustainable and viable projects that enable economic, social and productive development of a zone that is growing and increasing its population each day.

De Sotogrande hacia el mundo

Una imagen internacional de primer nivel, de calidad, en todos y cada uno de esos más de cuatrocientos millones de hogares gracias a la televisión e internet, es la mayor campaña de comunicación y publicidad que pueda existir en el mundo para un destino, para un resort, para una urbanización y para un concepto de lifestyle incomparable en el sur de Europa.

Arranca la edición 2022 del Estrella Damm N.A.Andalucía Masters de Golf en el Real Club Valderrama, justo coincidiendo con la salida de esta edición especial de El Periódico de Sotogrande, y éste evento podrá verse desde todos esos millones de enclaves en el planeta. Una oportunidad única, nuevamente, como ya lo fueAramco Team Series en La Reserva Club en el mes de agosto o el Torneo Internacional de Polo, durante las semanas centrales del verano; para proyectar la imagen de un destino no exclusivo y excluyente, sino selectivo, atractivo y un verdadero imán para el deporte y mercado residencial de alto nivel lujo.

Cierto es que hemos tenido por las calles de Valderrama planteles de jugadores con mayor repercusión que otros años, cierto, veremos qué pasa el año que viene y qué proyectos pueden ver la luz. Pero lo cierto es que un evento deportivo de carácter internacional sigue siendo una bala de plata en cualquier estrategia de comunicación para un destino, una baza que debería aprovecharse con mayor tino pero que sigue siendo una ventaja competitiva incomparable. Cabe recordar, especialmente en estos días cuando se cumplen 25 años de la Ryder Cup. Piensen dónde estaba y cómo era Sotogrande en 1997 y cómo es ahora y en lo que se ha convertido. Por cierto, no se pierdan la edición de octubre de La Revista Sotogrande con el reportaje especial 25 años de la Ryder Cup en Valderrama, de la mano de mi querida amiga Isabel Trillo, una de las periodistas y profesionales más capacitadas para hablar de golf en un medio de comunicación. No les miento, vale la pena.

En definitiva, todos estos eventos de gran repercusión mediática benefician al valor e imagen internacional de un destino. Tenemos mucho de lo que presumir y que dar a conocer; un buen ejemplo de ello es lo mucho que está creciendo la población local en los últimos dos años apoyados por la calidad residencial y los servicios que ya dispone la urbanización. Mostremos el mejor Sotogrande y aprovechemos esta ocasión como un impulso para seguir creciendo y dotando de actividades y servicios todo el calendario, no sólo en los meses centrales del verano, por muy exitoso que parezca.

From Sotogrande to the world

An international image that is first-rate, of quality, in every one of those more than four hundred million homes thanks to television and internet, it is the biggest communication and advertising campaign the world can have for a destination, for a resort, and for an incomparable lifestyle concept in southern Europe.

The 2022 edition of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters is gettiing underway at Real Club Valderrama, exactly coinciding with the publication of this special edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande, and this event can be seen from all those places around the world. A unique opportunity, once again, just as the Aramco Team Series was at La Reserva Club in August and the International Polo Tournament, during the central weeks of the summer; in order to project the image of a destination that is not exclusive and excluding, but rather selective, appealing and a real magnet for sport and the high-end luxury residential market.

It is true that on the fairways of Valderrama we have had line ups of players with a greater impact than in previous years, true, we will see what happens next year and what projects can do ahead. However, it is true that an international sporting event remains a silver bullet in any communication strategy for a destination, an ace that should be harnessed with greater acumen but that remains an incomparable competitive advantage. El verano deja una excelente recuperación en el sector hotelero y turístico de Sotogrande

Loshotelesdelazonaexperimen taron un alto grado de ocupación durante estos meses de verano, así lo expusieron de manera pú blica y estadística el alcalde, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix y la edil de Tu rismo, Ana Ruiz, en base a datos recopiladosporsudelegaciónmu nicipal, que indican que se ha al canzado una media del 80%, ro zando el 100% los fines de semana.

En cuanto a la procedencia de los viajeros, el estudio certifica que

predomina el turismo nacional, ocupando casi el 80% de pernoc taciones y constituyendo el 20% restante al turismo internacional, mayoritariamente británico. Estos datos reflejan que San Ro quesehaconvertidoenunodelos destinos turísticos más elegidos deAndalucíaysevaposicionando en el ranking de ocupación que se merece. Los resultados obtenidos este verano desde las dos Ofici nas de Turismo municipales (San Roque centro y Puerto deportivo

Sotogrande), han sido muy satis factorios,yaquemásde1600per sonas han realizado diferentes vi sitas guiadas y se ha ofrecido una atención personalizada a más de 1500 visitantes, superando así el índicedeestimacionescontempla das a principios de año. En todo ellotienemuchoqueverlaagenda de eventos que desde el Ayunta miento de San se han organizado durante toda la temporada. El estudio se ha realizado sobre los 7 hoteles, de 1 a 5 estrellas, existentesenelmunicipio,quetie nen un total de 814 camas en 405 habitaciones disponibles. Además de estas plazas, en San Roque existen 1 apartamento tu rístico con 34 camas; 11 hostales y pensiones con 390 camas; 2 ca sas rurales con 12 camas. Todo ello hace un total de 20 esta blecimientos hoteleros, con 1262 camas en 615 habitaciones; a las que hay que añadir un Camping, con 1143 plazas en 219 parcelas.

Otro punto muy importante en el que queremos implicarnos, particular mente,esenlaelaboracióndeunpro gramaycalendariodeactividadesque ayuden a dinamizar todo el entorno y atraer con estas acciones a toda la comunidad. Esta zona ya cuenta con un posicionamiento de privilegio en el sectorgolf,elmejordelsurdeEuropa; pero quedan otras muchas áreas que desarrollar y posicionar. Sotogrande y todo lo que es Andalucía dispone de multituddeposibilidadespordescubrir y que son muy atractivas: todo el en torno rural, actividades para niños, acciones deportivas (senderismo, ci clismo, etc.), el propio gastro-turismo. The hotel is one-year-old and we have set several objectives within our project to constantly improve. ting all the needs of the local community with: Society, Cortijo Bar, Cortijo Restaurante and HI SO, our most preferential space for summer

For next season I can announce that we will unveil a very Andalu sian-style garden at the entrance to the hotel, we want to really give the natural local environment a starring role. And of course, we will launch a new concept at SO/ SPA, with many innovations and changes.

What are the main lines on the SO/ Sotogrande road map?

Firstly, to really enhance the posi

tioning of SO/ SPA, we are going to develop lots of plans and packages that are going to boost its relations hip with the environment, we are going to give a starring role to the typical aromas of the area (orange, rosemary, etc.) and the most local essences. All of this will be applied in different treatments and aroma therapy sessions. We also want to go further and extend the concept with more programmes, activities and possibilities. And also develop the Fitness area; a place where it is possible to enjoy a very active cen tre with classes and workshops (yoga, pilates, etc.); ultimately, a multidisciplinary and leading space in the area.

Another very important point where we particularly want to get involved is in the creation of a programme and calendar of activities that help to revitalise the entire area and at tract the entire community with these actions. This area already has a privileged position in the golf sector, the best in southern Eu rope; but there are many other areas to develop and position. So togrande and everything thatAnda lusia is has several possibilities to discover and that are very appea ling: the entire rural environment,

Ésa es nuestra apuestamásdecidida,dotardeconte nidoyserlareferencia.Comoejemplo puedo poner el Society: es un con cepto familiar, con una cocina desen fadada e incluso está pensada para el gusto del jugador de golf, un lugar ameno en el que tomar algo con una terraza espléndida. Estamos pen sando en todas y cada una de las ne cesidades del entorno.

¿Nosesperaunotoñoyfinaldeaño muy animado en SO/ Sotogrande? A todo tren, no paramos de pensar y desarrollar multitud de actividades y en muy poco tiempo daremos a cono cer toda la agenda. In another vein, as I previously mentioned, very important positio ning and a boost in relation to the gastronomic offer of the entire re sort and of course, to continue evolving, with this positive momen tum, in hotel activity

I understand, in this regard, that one of the main points needs to be the integration and relations hip of SO/ Sotogrande with the local community. I am going to summarise it for you in a very easy way and with an ex pression that I particularly like to use a lot to define it: we should not be exclusive, but rather inclusive; that is our objective. We have now launched the “Sunday Roasts”, we have committed to the new Cortijo Bar and many other options. These initiatives are not targeted at the hotel audience, the foreign au dience, they are aimed at the local community. SO/ Sotogrande needs to position itself as the main mee ting place in the resort, a place where it is possible to have work

lunch, spend a family day, organise an after work event, enjoy an exce llent spa and fitness area, even a space for having a break and conti nuing to work. That is our most de cisive commitment, to provide content and be the benchmark. As an example, I can offer Society: it is a family concept, with relaxed cui sine and it is even devised for the tastes of golf players, a pleasant place for having something to drink with a splendid terrace. We are thinking about all of the needs of the area.

Does a very lively autumn and end of year await us at SO/ Soto grande?

Full steam ahead, we do not stop thinking and developing lots of acti vities, and very shortly we will an nounce the entire agenda. We have already defined the offer for Christmas which will be very inte resting, with menus devised for cor porate and family lunches, as well as very special occasions such as the days of Christmas and New Year.

La Junta alerta sobre problemas de conservación en el proyecto de Borondo

• Un informe elaborado por el Servicio de Espacios Naturales Protegidos de la Delegación Territorial de la Consejería de Sostenibilidad, Medio Ambiente y Economía Azul advierte que el proyecto turístico-urbanístico de Borondo en San Roque compromete la integridad y conservación de este espacio, que sigue perteneciendo a la Red Natural 2000.

Avisos sobre el proyecto turístico-ur banístico en Borondo de la Junta de Andalucía. Según explicaron y des tallaron el colectivoAGADEN-Ecolo gistas en Acción y la Federación Provincial de Ecologistas en Acción de Cádiz, la Delegación Territorial de la Consejería de Sostenibilidad, Me dio Ambiente y Economía Azul de la Junta deAndalucía emitió un informe del Servicio de Espacios Naturales Protegidos, en el que se asegura que el «PLAN ESPECIAL DE IM PLANTACIÓN DE «ALCORNOCA

LES – BORONDO RESERVA AM BIENTAL», podría suponer “una transformación profunda y sustancial de los usos y características actua les de la finca”, debido a la construc ción de diversas edificaciones e in fraestructuras. Por otro lado, afirma que el desarrollo de actividades pre vistas en el proyecto puede suponer una transformación sensible de la realidad física y biológica de la misma, que “comprometería” la inte gridad de la Red Natura 2000 (RN2000) sobre la que se ubica el proyecto.

Este informe, según interpreta el co lectivo, destaca el “alto impacto” que podría generar la masificación de visitantes, ya que el complejo podría albergar más de 5.000 personas dia rias cuando se encuentre en plena actividad. Esta masificación, junto al desarrollo de las actividades turísti cas y de ocio, supondría un “riesgo serio a la conservación de los Hábi tats de Interés Comunitarios existen tes en la finca”, explican.

Relatan que una reciente sentencia del Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Andalucía anuló el Decreto 150/2017 que amplió el Parque Na tural Los Alcornocales hasta el lito ral mediterráneo, incluyendo, entre otras zonas, la finca Borondo. Los propietarios de la finca y promoto res del mencionado proyecto urba nístico -la empresa Carbonell Figue ras S.A.- anunciaron que esta desprotección, aseguran los ecolo

gistas, facilitaba la ejecución del proyecto, pero olvidaron que ningún tribunal español puede modificar la RN2000, pues es una declaración que realizó la UE en febrero de este año. El informe técnico incide en esta protección, que hace inviable este proyecto por su “total incompa tibilidad” con la pertenencia a esta red europea de espacios naturales protegidos Destacan los ecologistas que “la

finca es la única conexión ecológica” entre las extensas zonas forestales del Parque Natural LosAlcornocales y los espacios costeros situados en la finca Borondo y la colindante De hesa de Guadalquitón, en tanto que se trata del único espacio no urbani zado que queda entre la urbaniza ción de Sotogrande, al norte, y la urbanización La Alcaidesa, al sur, todo ello de acuerdo con lo recogido en el artículo 21 de la Ley 42/2007. Borondo, además de incluir hábitats naturales protegidos por la Unión Europea, algunos prioritarios, al berga más de 200 taxones de flora, incluyendo algunas especies prote gidas.

Si a este informe, aseguran los eco logistas, se suman que “la secretaria del Ayuntamiento de San Roque ha informado en contra de la declara ción de utilidad pública de este pro yecto, es evidente que al ayunta miento de esta localidad no le queda otra opción que dar carpetazo defini tivo a un proyecto gravemente ame nazador de un espacio natural prote gido a nivel europeo”.

Regional Government warns of conservation problems in the Borondo project

Warnings over the tourist-develop ment project in Borondo by the Re gional Government of Andalusia.

According to the group AGA DEN-Ecologists in Action and the Provincial Federation of Ecologists in Action of Cadiz, the Territorial De partment of the Department of Sus tainability, Environment and Blue Economy of the Regional Govern ment of Andalusia issued a report on the Protected Natural Spaces Ser vice, in which it states that the “SPE CIAL PLAN FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ´CORK OAKS – BORONDO ENVIRON MENTAL RESERVE´, could result in “an exntensive and substantial trans

formation of the current uses and characteristics of the estate”, due to the construction of different buildings and infrastructures. On the other hand, it states that the development of activities outlined in the project could result in a noticeable transfor mation of the physical and biological transformation of it, that “would com promise” the integrity of the Natura 2000 Network (RN2000) on which the project is located.

This report, according to the group´s interpretation, highlights the “high im pact” that could be caused by large number of visitors, as the resort could house more than 5,000 people each day when fully operational. This crow

ding, along with the development of tourist and leisure activities, would pose a “serious risk to the conserva tion of Habitats of Community Interest that exist on the estate” they explain. They state that a recent ruling by the High Court of Justice of Andalusia an nulled Decree 150/2017 which exten ded Los Alcornocales Natural Park to the Mediterranean coast, including, among other areas, Borondo estate.

The owners of the estate and develo pers of the aforementioned develop ment project, the company Carbonell Figueras S.A., announced that this lack of proterction, the ecologists state, facilitated the implementation of the project, but they forgot that no

Spanish court can modify the RN2000, as it is a declaration that the EU made in February this year. The technical report stresses that this pro tection makes this project unviable due to its “total incompatibility” with belonging to this European network of protected natural spaces.

The ecologists highlight that “the es tate is the only ecological connection” between the extensive forest areas of Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the coastal spaces located in the Bo rondo estate and the neighbouring Dehesa de Guadalquitón, in so much that it is the only undelveloped space remaining between Sotogrande re sort, in the north, and the resort of La

Alcaidesa, to the south, all in accor dance with what is outlined in article 21 of Law 42/2007. Borondo, in addi tion to including natural habitats pro tected by the European Union, some priority, is home to more than 200 taxa of flora, including some protected species.

If in addition to this report, state the ecologists, we add that “the secretary of the Council of San Roque has re ported this project as being against public utility, it is clear that the council in this area has no other option than to definitively shelve a project that is seriously threatening for a natural space that is protected at a European level”.

Las causas, al parecer, fueron un infarto al salir de su domicilio después de dejar a sus hijos en el colegio. Manuel Granados “Chico” , gran persona y querido por todos. Manuel Granados “Chico” Granados died last Monday in Gran Canaria at the age of 46. He had lived there for more than a decade. An absolute entrepreneur who maintained several hotel projects in the area until he moved to Gran Canaria where he undertook work in companies in the oil sector and held important management positions. He lea ves behind two young children with his current partner and a 16 year old girl from his previous partner. He was very much loved wherever he was, both in Gran Canaria where scenes of great sorrow were expressed and here in Torreguadiaro where his mother and sister live. The cause of death was apparently a heart attack when he left his home after dropping his children off at school. Manuel Granados “Chico”, a great person and loved by all. We would like to convey to all his family and friends the dee pest condolences of all Grupo HCP Sotogrande and es pecially from El Periódico de Sotogrande.

Ruiz Boix anima a la empresa a continuar con la iniciativa en Borondo

ElalcaldedeSanRoque,JuanCarlos Ruiz Boix, expresó su confianza en que la empresa Carbonell y Figueras consigan solventar los reparos formu lados por la Junta de Andalucía al proyecto presentado para la Finca de Borondo. El alcalde entiende que este proyecto, que actúa en tan solo un 2% de las 330 hectáreas de la finca, es el mejor que se ha podido presentar, ya que garantiza la salva guarda de este espacio natural. La Junta deAndalucía, a través de la delegación territorial de Medio Am biente, ha enviado al Ayuntamiento de San Roque un escrito en el que informa negativamente al proyecto presentado en su momento por esta

empresa.

Considera el alcalde que este pro yecto supondría un nuevo atractivo turístico muy importante para el mu nicipio, así como la generación de un unos 500 puestos de trabajo tanto en su construcción como después fijos durante el funcionamiento del mismo.

Por ello, el alcalde considera que el informe negativo emitido por un solo servicio de la Junta de Andalucía es subsanable, con las aportaciones de otros estamentos y entidades que han opinado sobre el proyecto, para lo que existe un plazo de 15 meses.

Por ello, Ruiz Boix entiende que en el nuevodocumento,denominadoexpe diente de evaluación ambiental estra tégico completo, deben recogerse todas estas consideraciones.

En concreto, el proyecto inicial re coge la instalación de 263 cabañas, cuatro albergues y zonas de acam pada.Además, se instalará un Centro de Interpretación del Parque Natural de losAlcornocales, un Centro de In

terpretación del Medio Marino, una finca de explotación agroecológica, un parque de aventuras, etc.

The mayor of San Roque, Juan Car los Ruiz Boix, expressed his confi dence that the company Carbonell and Figueras will manage to over come the objections lodged by the Regional Government of Andalusia to the project presented for Finca de Bo rondo estate. Novedades en el Impuesto sobre el Patrimonio

Poco ha durado la euforia inicial con la que se recibió la decisión de la Junta de Andalucía de suprimir el Im puesto sobre el Patrimonio (“IP”) mediante la aplicación de una bonificación del 100% de la cuota del IP. Apenas había hecho pública el Presidente de la Junta de Anda lucía su decisión de suprimir el IP en su comunidad autónoma, cuando el Ejecutivo central anunció la incor poración de una serie de medidas fiscales en los Pre supuestos Generales del Estado para el año 2023, en tre las que se incluía un nuevo IP (conocido como “el Impuesto de Solidaridad a las Grandes Fortunas” – el “nuevo impuesto”). Con ello, el Gobierno pretende lo grar un mayor grado de armonización entre las distintas comunidades autónomas respecto del tratamiento fiscal de los contribuyentes.

El nuevo impuesto recaerá sobre contribuyentes con un patrimonio neto superior a 3 millones de euros, estable ciéndose los siguientes tramos y tipos de gravamen:

Update on Spanish Wealth Tax

The recent euphoria surrounding the decision of the Regional Government of Andalucía to repeal Wealth Tax (“WT”) by applying an allowance of 100% in res pect of any WT payable in Andalucía has been short-lived. No sooner had the President of the Junta de Andalucía communicated his decision to repeal WT in Andalucía, than the Central Government an nounced a series of new tax measures in its Budget for 2023, including a new WT (the so-called “Solida rity Tax on Large Fortunes” – “the new WTLF”). In doing so, the Central Government pretends to bring about a certain degree of harmonisation as between Spain’s different autonomous communities in relation to the tax treatment of taxpayers.

The new WTLF will apply to individuals whose net wealth exceeds € 3M at the following rates:

The new WTLF is intended to coexist with the WT applicable in the various autonomous communities by permitting the WT payable in the autonomous com munity to be deducted from the new WTLF. This effectively means that the new WTLF will be particu larly hard felt in the autonomous communities where no WT is currently payable (e.g., Madrid and Andalu cía).

The autonomous communities of Madrid and Andalu cía have already announced that they will lodge an appeal against the new WTLF before the Spanish Constitutional Court. Having said this, and with general elections taking place in 2023, it may be possible that the new WTLF may not apply

The new WTLF is intended to come into force on 1 January 2023 and will initially apply for the 2023 and

2024 tax years. However, it is possible that it could be renewed thereafter for successive tax years.

Increased rates for savings income/capital gains

In addition, the Central Government has increased the rates applicable to savings income/capital gains (“rentas del ahorro”) by introducing a new rate of tax for savings income/capital gains in excess of € 300,000 at 28%.

The current rate applicable to savings income/capital gains between € 200,000 - € 300,000 will also in crease from 26% to 27%.

El Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos prepara la provisión de 60 plazas vacantes

Ruiz Boix ya estuvo en julio en la presentación de los nuevos vehículos de intervención en cascos urbanos y, en esta reunión, ha conocido la planificación de los próximos me-

ses, considerando que Diputación es uno de los principales soportes económicos del Consorcio.

Francisco Vaca explicó que en las próximas semanas se publicará en elBoletínOficialdelEstadoelanuncio referido a la provisión de 60 vacantes en la plantilla de Bomberos. El pasado viernes 30 de septiembre, el CEO de Mapesa Inversiones, Antonio Mateos, recogió uno de los premios entregados durante la gala los Pre mios Nacionales Carlos V a la ex celencia Empresarial. Una cita ce lebrada en un escenario de excepción como el Hotel Wellington de Madrid, de l amano de la Socie dad Europea de Fomento Social y Cultural.

En concreto, las palabras que diri

gieron a los galardonados fueron «La perfección es inalcanzable pero persiguiendo la perfección, lo graremos la excelencia». Mapesa Inversiones es una entidad que se originó en La Línea de la Concep ción (Campo de Gibraltar), ubicada actualmente en Sotogrande, C/ Al tamira, Edificio Ayala, 1ª Pl., Ofic. 27.

Mateos detalló la actividad y cómo sus clientes consiguen una inver sión adecuada a lo que buscan,

gracias a que reciben inmuebles ya analizados, que cumplen las características. After a great summer in Soto grande, where the buzz of people and the generation of business mixed with the peacefulness of the resort, it is time for an evaluation. Normally we have our mouth full of praise for the virtues and strengths of Sotogrande. And that is good, very good. Because it denotes that the formula is working and that those of us who live it, in any of its forms, profess affection for it. However, what really makes us grow as a society is a critical atti tude from a constructive viewpoint. Self-complacency was never a ne cessary ingredient for improving a recipe. Therefore, it is essential to continue along the path that leads to excellence.

We are the only resort in Spain ca pable of maintaining the balance between the increase in the num

ber of visitors with the exclusivity and peacefulness of the area. It isn´t necessary to restrict the arri val of more visitors, or new resi dents settling in the resort permanently, but nor should we become a “second Marbella”.

Maintaining reasonable growth in numbers is positive, but we should not tend towards mass crowding if we want to keep the area as an oasis of peace full of life. It is a diffi cult but possible balance. This summer (mainly August) was a good example of it. Packed to the rafters and all engines operating at full capacity. Sports (polo, tennis, sailing, golf, etc.) more alive than ever, showing great health. Busi nesses and the hospitality industry, despite problems with staff availa bility, have operated correctly, maintaining and even improving

Pero ninguna de las playas de Sotogrande ostenta la pre ciadabandera.Importanteseríapues, seguir trabajando en la mejora de las mismas y en subsanar las carencias que a cada una les atañen. However, we shouldn´t be satis fied. We have to keep improving.

On one hand, it would be recom mendable to extend the pro gramme of the intense social, cultural and sporting agenda to the month of July too. It would be a considerable attraction to improve occupancy levels that month. It would prevent the excessive con centration of people and activities in August. And I would generally strengthen the commercial offer.

And on the other hand, it is neces sary, almost urgent I would say, to carry out important improvement work on beaches. We are surroun ded by blue flags on both ends. To the east, Playa de Cala Sardina (in past years Torreguadiaro beach has been too but did not get the distinction this year due to a clea ning problem) and to the west Playa de Alcaidesa-Faro (Torrecar bonera). But none of the beaches in Sotogrande hold the precious flag. It is thus important to keep working to improve them and to rectify shortcomings that affect each of them. Generally, more and better fittings (showers, toilets, first aid kit, public address system, res cue stand, etc.) and improving and tidying entrances.

El Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters podría dar al golf español su victoria número 200 en el DP World Tour, otra cifra redonda para completar los alicientes de esta gran cita en el Real Club Valde rrama.

En busca de esa victoria tan espe cial, tendremos a quince jugadores españoles, muchos de ellos con bri llantes victorias en su palmarés como Pablo Larrazábal, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño y Álvaro Quirós (siete triunfos cada uno), Rafa Ca brera Bello (cuatro), Adrián Otaegui (tres), Alejandro Cañizares y Jorge Campillos (dos) y Nacho Elvira (una).

El Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters que comienza el próximo jueves será un torneo muy especial para Alejandro Cañizares. El gol fista madrileño afincado en Málaga cumple la notable cifra de 400 tor neos en el DP World Tour y lo hace con la máxima ilusión de “dar todo lo mejor en cada golpe.”

Sumar 400 torneos en el Tour es un logro que no está al alcance de mu chos jugadores y hacerlo en casa, “una coincidencia increíble”, ex plica. “Este es mi club, entreno aquí desde que tengo 15 o 16 años y siempre me han ayudado mucho.

Es muy especial celebrarlo aquí”, comenta.

Cañizares recuerda perfectamente su primer torneo en el entonces Eu ropean Tour, el Canarias Open de España de 2002, que jugó con 19 años, todavía amateur.

“Mi hermano me hizo de caddie y quedé el cuarto por la cola, pero a uno de los que gané fue a Seve riano Ballesteros, con el que coin

cidí también el aeropuerto. Tengo buen recuerdo, como no pasé el corte nos fuimos en coche a reco rrer toda la isla”, recuerda. En 2006 consiguió la tarjeta con ple nos derechos de juego y solo nece sitó cuatro torneos para conseguir su primera victoria, el Open de Ru sia de 2006. La segunda se hizo esperar hasta 2014, cuando ganó el

Trofeo Hassan II en Marruecos.

Cañizares se muestra orgulloso de cumplir 400 torneos. “Eso quiere de cir que he pinchado mucha bola en el tee durante 16 años de carrera”, comenta. Innumerables torneos y batallas en la mochila, pero la misma ilusión por jugar una vez más en su campo, el Real Club Valde rrama, ante su público.

“Ha sido un año complicado en cuanto al golf, también mental mente, pero no se acaba el mundo. Llego con muchas ganas, expecta tivas no puedo tener demasiadas, pero mantengo mis metas, mis sue ños. Este es el campo en el que en treno y estoy jugando mejor, solo puedo decir que voy a dar todo lo mejor en cada golpe”, promete.

Ángel Ayora, leading amateur from La Cañada, will com plete the Spanish field, having finished second in the 2022 Spanish International Under 18, as well as the Spanish Amateur Championship and the Spanish Absolute Cham pionship.

Next Thursday, Alejandro Ca ñizares will reach the remar kable milestone of 400 DP World Tour events as he tees it up at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, as determined as ever to “give his best in every shot”. Reaching 400 events on tour is no small achievement, and to do it at home, “an incredible coincidence,” says Alejandro. “This is my club; I have practi ced here since I was 15 or 16 and they’ve always helped me a lot. It’s very special to cele brate it here”.

Cañizares recalls vividly his first appearance on the then European Tour as an ama teur, the 2002 Canarias Open de España, aged 19. “My bro ther caddied for me and I fini shed fourth from bottom, but Seve Ballesteros was behind me, and we also met at the airport As I didn’t make the cut, we drove around the is land and had a great time”.

In 2006 he won his card with full playing rights and needed only three starts to notch his first victory, the 2006 Russian Open. The second came at the 2014 Hasan II Trophy in Morocco.

Cañizares is proud of his 400 tournaments, “that means that I’ve teed it up many times du ring my 16-year career”. With countless battles in his bag,

he looks forward to playing once again on his home course, Real Club Valderrama,

in front of his home crowd.

“It’s been a tough year in terms of golf and also mentally, but

the game is not over. I can’t have too many expectations, but I still have my goals and

my dreams. I can only say that I’m going to give my best in every shot”.

En este caso, mucho más animada con la presencia del golfista local, el guadiareño Álvaro Quirós que animó

a los presentes a participar en la re cogida de residuos a lo largo de la playa y que además compartió un agradable rato distendido con aficio nados y vecinos de la zona que no quisieron perderse esta campaña de concienciación y preservación del medio ambiente.

Recomendaciones para el tráfico durante los días de torneo en Sotogrande

Enrelaciónaltráfico,señalarquedesde elmiércolesdía12,laAvda.delCarmen se habilitara en sentido único de circulacióndesalida(deAvda.delosCortijos a Intersección C/ Escorial) de 06:30H a 21:00h,permitiéndoseelnormalacceso desde la cancela de Avda. del Carmen a las calles Esmeralda, Escorial y Ebro. El resto de vecinos, cuyas propiedades se encuentren en el tramo regulado al trafico de Avenida del Carmen, podrán usar el resto de entradas a la urbanización, siendo la mas cercana la cancela de Calle Colon.

Respecto a la Seguridad, las Fuerzas y Cuerpos de Seguridad del Estado han diseñado un amplio dispositivo de medios humanos y técnicos liderados

principalmente por Guardia Civil y Policía Local que reforzarán la seguridad propia de la urbanización.

Respecto el aparcamiento la organización, fuera del ámbito de la E.U.C., ha habilitado una zona de parking público en La Reserva. La organización usará a modo de lanzadera autobuses para transportar los visitantes desde dicho aparcamiento al acceso de público del campo de golf y viceversa. El inglés Kipp Popert se ha procla mado vencedor de la sexta prueba del G4D Tour, celebrada en el Real Club Valderrama como preludio al Es trella Damm N.A. Valderrama Mas ters. Popert ha entregado una tarjeta de 69 golpes, (-2) para un magnífico resultado final de 5 bajo par con el que suma su cuarta victoria en este nuevo circuito que reúne a los mejo res jugadores del mundo del golf adaptado.

“Tenía muchas ilusiones puestas en esta temporada y estoy muy con tento. No suelo ir pendiente de los marcadores, pero en el 15 he visto que Chris iba 5 bajo par y he pensado que tenía que apretar”, declaraba al finalizar la vuelta Popert.

“Estaba deseando jugar en el Real Club Valderrama porque los profesio nales dicen que es el campo más di fícil que juegan. No sabía qué me esperaba, pero me mentalicé para ser muy paciente. Este campo me va bien porque soy un buen jugador de wedges”.

Popert tames Valderrama to seal fourth G4D Tour victory

Kipp Popert claimed a fourth G4D Tour title in dominant fashion, win ning by five shots from Chris Big gins at the G4D @ Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters.

The World Number Two got to five under par after rounds of 68 and 69 - including the first hole in one in G4D Tour history on Mondayaround the notoriously tricky Real Club Valderrama, in the penulti mate event of the season.

American Biggins finished on level par, fighting back from a four over par opening round, with local fa vourite Juan PostigoArce one shot further back in third place. The win is Popert’s fourth in the space of six months, adding to his successes at the G4D @ Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett, G4D @ Porsche European Open and G4D @ BMW PGA Championship.

He said: “I’ve been telling all the members at my home course all

year that I was looking forward to this one the most because the Tour pros say it’s the toughest test they have. Coming in here I had no idea what to expect, I just told myself not to get angry at any point – if I

was in trouble, just get it back in play.

“The course suits me as my wedge play is very strong. When I had a wedge in hand I had a lot of looks, so it was really nice to be under

par.

“I love checking leaderboards, but I only checked it on the 15th, the par three, I had just missed a six footer. I wish I has known the lea derboard before then. My friend

Chris (Biggins) had told me at the start of the week that this was his course, and he was five under then. I thought, OK we might need to make a few birdies coming in.

“I got to 17, absolutely smoked a drive, a nine iron pin high, and then rolled in a big left to right putt.”

Popert will be joined next month at the G4D Tour Series Finale @ DP World Tour Championship by fe llow winners from this season Mike Browne and Tommaso Perrino, with the remainder of the ten-pla yer field to be confirmed on Octo ber 23, based on the WR4GD (World Rankings) published on October 19.

The Englishman said: “The final event is going to be brilliant. I’ve only been to Dubai once, for the tournament last year. I’ll go out a few weeks before and practice. It’s an awesome place to play golf, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

La implementación de nuevas medidas para racionalizar el riego y la construcción de un nuevo lago son una muestra más del camino sosteniblequeelclubemprendióyadesdesu fundación.

Además de ser el club español que más torneos ha albergado en la historia del DP World Tour y de acoger la primera Ryder Cup jugada en Europa continental, en 1995 el Real Club Valderrama fue uno de los ocho clubes que participó en un proyecto piloto de la unidad ecológica de la EGA, ayudado y cofinanciado por la Comisión Europea, para el desarrollo de un Programa de Gestión Medioambiental. Poco después, en 1997 logró el hito de ser el primer club de Europa en conseguir el certificado medioambiental de Audubon International, la entidad más importante que refrenda el compromiso de los campos de golf con el medio natural. El Programa Audubon para Campos de Golf (ACSP, Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program) vigila la implementación de buenas prácticas en el mantenimiento de campos de golf para cuidar la biodiversidad y el medioambiente, atendiendo a aspectos clave como el uso y conservación del agua, la gestión ambiental y de la vida silvestre, la reducción de productos químicos y carburantes, y la difusión de los valores ecológicos.

Siguiendoconlaspautasyamarcadas desde la creación del club, en los últimos años el Real Club Valderrama ha puestoenmarchaunbuennúmerode iniciativas para optimizar y ahorrar el consumodeagua,comolainstalación en2016y2017deunsistemaderiego nuevo totalmente digitalizado para regular cada aspersor del campo, la implementación de sensores de dureza y humedad en los greens que permiten regular el riego según las necesidades y la sustitución de muchas zonas de césped del campo por mulch (corteza de alcornoque machacada).

Noobstante,lamedidaestrellahasido la construcción de un nuevo lago a la

derecha del hoyo 11, cuya reserva hídrica será utilizada como agua de riego. El lago recogerá el agua de lluvia y de los drenajes del campo, ya que casi todos los de la segunda vuelta van dirigidos hacia este lago.

Sellenaráduranteelinviernoyproporcionará agua de riego durante los meses de verano en los que se producen picos de consumo.

Además, antes de la construcción de estelagoquesuperalos58.000m3de capacidad, se trasplantaron casi 70 alcornoques a otras zonas del campo para poder ejecutar la obra respetando la masa forestal. En total, la inversión en el lago ha rondado los 600.000€,aunqueelbeneficiodirecto sobre el medio ambiente es impagable, ya que además de racionalizar el consumo de agua servirá de hábitat

para muchas aves que migran por el Estrecho.

“Todos los campos de golf tenemos la obligacióndemejorarnuestrocompromiso con la sostenibilidad medioambiental. Como sector, debemos adelantarnos a los críticos y mejorar nuestros procesos para convertirnos en referentes de la gestión de recursos naturales. New lake for irrigation at the

Real Club Valderrama, home of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters to be played from October 13th and an indisputable reference on the international golfing scene, continues to take measures that make clear its absolute commit ment to the environment and the use of natural resources. The im plementation of new measures to rationalize irrigation and the cons truction of a new lake are further proof of the sustainable path that the club took since its foundation. In addition to being the Spanish club hosting the most DP World Tour events and the first Ryder Cup played in continental Europe, in 1995 Real Club Valderrama was one of the eight clubs that partici pated in a pilot project of EGA the ecological unit, assisted and co-fi nanced by the European Commis sion, for the development of an Environmental Management Pro gram. Shortly thereafter, in 1997, it

achieved the milestone of being the first club in Europe to achieve environmental certification from Audubon International, the most important entity that endorses the commitment of golf courses to the natural environment. TheAudubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) monitors the implementa tion of best practices in the mainte nance of golf courses to care for biodiversity and environment, ad dressing key aspects such as water use and conservation, envi ronmental and wildlife manage ment, the reduction of chemicals and fuels, and the communication of ecological values.

Following the guidelines already set in the club foundation, in recent years Real Club Valderrama has implemented a number of initiati ves to optimize and save water consumption, such as the installa tion in 2016 and 2017 of a new fully digitized irrigation system to regu

late each sprinkler on the course, the implementation of hardness and humidity sensors on the greens that allow irrigation to be regulated according to needs, and the replacement of many areas of grass with mulch (crushed cork oak bark). These rough areas sha ded by trees practically do not come into play and have made it possible to eliminate more than 300 sprinklers.

However, Valderrama’s highlight has been the construction of a new lake to the right of the 11th hole to be used for irrigation. The lake will collect rainwater and water from the course drain, it will be filled during the winter and will provide irrigation water during the summer months when consumption peaks occur In addition, before the construction of this 58,000 m3 lake, almost 70 cork oak trees were transplanted to other areas of the golf course in order to carry out the work while

respecting the forest mass. In total, around €600,000 were invested in the lake, although the direct benefit on the environment is priceless, since in addition to rationalizing water consumption, it will serve as a habitat for many birds that mi grate through the Gibraltar Strait.

“At golf courses we have an obliga tion to improve our commitment to environmental sustainability. As an industry, we must stay ahead of the critics and improve our processes to become a benchmark in natural resource management. The com mitment of the courses should not be limited to mere environmental certifications, and we must rein force our message with invest ments that clearly demonstrate the path we are going to follow regar ding the management of our envi ronment and resources,” explains Javier Reviriego, general manager of Real Club Valderrama.

ment is Valderrama’s environmen tal richness, with a total of 527 flora and fauna species on the course. Of course, the cork oak embellishes the environment and even stands out in the Estrella Damm N.A. En todo el mundo hemos visto cómo los deportes que más atraen a los ciudadanos se han ido poco a poco profesionalizando, y resultando cada vez mejores. El público los si guió practicando con entusiasmo, pero además se empezó a generar una importante actividad econó mica, que ha beneficiado sin duda a sus protagonistas y su entorno, pero también a multitud de entu siastas espectadores.

Mediation: Making the problem go away?

Can you imagine waking up one morning and that problem, diffi culty or circumstance that worries you so much and blocks you, has disappeared? Maybe it doesn’t have to. If you look closely, you will see that everything is perfect exactly as it is in every mo ment. Being able to feel this is like learning to swim, you suddenly float, relax and enjoy the movement. If you put your mind to it and work at it, you can get to enjoy it so much that you are grateful for everything that happens to you, even what may seem like a mis fortune to others.

Taking perspective and knowing how to manage a conflict at home, at work, with your health or whatever, helps you to recon nect with gratitude. In that sense, relying on a mediation process favours learning, but it also helps to go to a place of peace, en counter and discovery in nature. One such place, without a doubt, is, for example, La Casa del Profesor Poveda, in Soto del Real, Madrid.Aplace open to knowledge and multidisciplinarity, a place of inspiration that predisposes towards creativity and is nourished by respect.

“When the student is ready, the teacher appears”, when you are ready to understand something key, many other things around you make new sense, you put something in order in you, something “clicks” and, suddenly, you are already a little different for having managed to put together some pieces inside you. In our relations hips, it happens in a similar way. The Indian fable of the blind friends who touched an elephant for the first time represents it well: one of the blind men touched the foot and thought an elephant was like a column, another touched the ear and thought it was like a fan, another touched the trunk and thought it was like a snake. Then they spent hours arguing about what this animal looked like without coming to any conclusion, as each of them only knew one part and none of them had the full knowledge and pers pective.

Mediation helps to remove these blinders and perceive reality in a more integrated way. Many gaps of ignorance make it difficult to find useful solutions, and a me diation process helps to put the pieces together. The mediator does not judge, he or she refor mulates and asks questions so that you can understand the si tuation from a more complete perspective, reaching to see where you did not see before. When the conflict is tight, it is ea sier to make the effort. Nobody better than those involved to de cide where to go, the mediation process is only that help, a moti vator to transcend the problem.

algo clave, muchas otras cosas a tu alre dedor cobran nuevo sentido, ordenas algo en tí, algo hace “click” y, de pronto, ya eres un poco diferente por haber logrado unir al gunas piezas en tu interior. En nuestras relaciones, ocurre parecido. La fábula india de los amigos ciegos que tocaron un elefante por pri mera vez, lo repre senta bien: uno de los ciegos tocó la pata y pensó que un elefante era como una columna, otro la oreja y pensó que era como un abanico, otro la trompa y pensó que era como una serpiente. Después se pasaron horas discutiendo sobre cómo era este animal sin llegar a ninguna conclusión, pues cada uno de ellos sólo conocía una parte y ninguno tenía el conocimiento completo y la perspectiva.

Una mediación ayuda a eliminar esas vendas y percibir la realidad de manera más integrada. Mu chos huecos de ignorancia dificul tan dar con soluciones útiles y un proceso de mediación sirve para ir componiendo las piezas. El me diador no juzga, reformula y hace preguntas para que vayas com prendiendo la situación desde una perspectiva más completa, alcan zando a ver dónde antes no veías.

Cuando el conflicto aprieta es más fácil hacer el esfuerzo. Nadie mejor que los implicados para de cidir hacia dónde caminar, el pro ceso de mediación sólo es esa ayuda, un motivador para trascen der el problema.

Convocado el XXIX Concurso Nacional de Cuentos “José Manuel Álvarez Gil”

Como cada año, el Colegio San José convoca el Concurso Nacional de Cuentos “José Manuel Álvarez Gil”, con el objeto de honrar la memoria del fundador del colegio y de fomen tar la creatividad literaria entre los jóvenes.

Con gran éxito de convocatoria, el certamen que este año celebra su vigesimonovena edición se dirige a escolares que pueden participar en sus tres categorías: Educación Pri maria, Educación Secundaria y Ense ñanzasMedias(BachilleratoyForma ción Profesional).

“El concurso pretende fomentar el ejercicio de la escritura, la redac ción y la comprensión textual. De jando a un lado la pretensión de buscar especiales cualidades litera rias, cuando un alumno hace un tra bajo para nuestro concurso está in virtiendo, casi sin saberlo, en su propia formación verbal”, comenta el coordinador del concurso, Don Juan José Bazán, jefe del Departa mento de Lengua Castellana y Lite ratura y miembro del jurado, aña diendo que “el hecho de configurar una historia, buscar el lenguaje ade

Like each year, Colegio San José is organising the “José Ma nuel Álvarez Gil” National Short Story Competition in order to ho nour the memory of the school´s founder and encourage literary creativity among young people.

With great success in terms of numbers, the competition which is celebrating its twenty-ninth edition this year is aimed at school pupils who can participate in its three categories: Primary Education, Secondary Education and High School (Baccalaureate and Professional Training).

“The competition aims to encou rage the exercise of writing, wor ding and textual comprehension.

Aside from the aim of seeking special literary qualities, when a pupil creates a piece of work for our competition they are inves ting, almost without knowing it, in their own verbal training”, states the competition coordinator, Mr Juan José Bazán, head of the Department of Spanish Lan

guage and Literature and member of the jury, adding that “the act of crea ting a story, looking for the right language and subjecting to or thographical and wording disci pline is in itself a first-rate educational objective for a school whose main aim is the

comprehensive education of a person. In turn, this competition also encourages the exercise of creativity. Pupils who have a strong literary talent find our competition to be the ideal space for developing their interests”. The winners will receive the fo llowing prizes:

El Tango

“... Un día, Graciela apareció con una bolsa de plástico en una mano y un pequeño radiocasete en la otra. Me pidió con mucho tacto que vigilase el extremo de la callejuela. Me aposté obediente donde ella me indicó y observé detenidamente cómo cambiaba sus zapatos violetas por unos negros de tacón alto. Pulsó el botón del radiocasete y la voz de Carlos Gardel inundó la callecita mientras ella se transfor maba en la bailarina que fue.Apesar del tiempo que ha pasado, aún me parece verla bailar en mis sueños: Graciela elevando la pierna, empujando el pasado con el empeine de sus pies, abrazando con sus dedos nudosos el final de la vida; elevando el mentón mientras dirige la mirada a un cielo blanco, incierto. En uno de los giros cae su som brero y con él, su peluca. La cabeza de la bailarina, bola gris y blanca, sigue girando, mientras clava su mirada suplicante en mí. Sus brazos abanican con sus colgajos un aire de muertos. La música acaba y, mientras recoge sus cosas, incapaz de mirarla a la cara, elevo mis ojos húmedos al cielo tropezando en el camino con el grupo escultó rico que corona el mausoleo negro: dos ángeles de la muerte arreba tando el alma de un infante a su madre, cuya mirada de dolor, a pesar de la distancia de la materia, atraviesa mi alma. Miro de nuevo a Graciela, que se coloca teatralmente frente a la puerta del mausoleo y hace una reverencia tan profunda que pienso que no podrá levan tarse sin ayuda. Se cambia de zapatos y, tras dedicarme una sonrisa triste y antes de irse me dice: - Pibe, ahora sí que nos conocemos, ¿verdad?

Los días pasaban y a mis deseos de dibujar se sumaba ahora el interés que los encuentros con Graciela provocaban en mí. Cada mañana a las doce, tapaba el termo de agua y guardaba el mate. A esa hora, y siempre de violeta, Graciela entraba arrastrando cada vez más sus pasos por el empedrado del cementerio. Al llegar al cristo, se santiguaba y me miraba de soslayo. Me situaba detrás de ella y la seguía hasta que se detenía ante el mausoleo de mármol negro. A veces sacaba una bolsa con empanadas o tortas. Una vez trajo dos copas arañadas y una botella de vino tinto de Malbec, todo un lujo para un desempleado como yo.Apenas hablábamos, no hacía falta. El tango lo hacía por nosotros. - “No hay palabras más bellas ni que puedan explicar mejor la pasión, que las palabras que viven en los

I once again look at Graciela, who stands theatrically in front of the door of the mausoleum and she does such a deep bow that I think she couldn´t get up without help. She changes shoes and, after giving me sad smile and before leaving she says: - Kid, now we know each other, no?

The days passed and my desire to draw was now added to the interest that the meetings with Graciela caused in me. Each mor ning at twelve, I filled the flask with water and put away the mate. At that time, and always dressed in violet, Graciela would enter, each time dragging her steps more along the cobbles of the ce mentery. When she reached the Christ, she crossed herself and looked at me out of the corners of her eyes. I went behind her and followed her until she stopped in front of the black marble mauso leum. Sometimes she would take out a bag with empanadas and cakes. Once she brought two cut-glass cups and a bottle of Mal bec red wine, a real luxury for an unemployed person like me. We barely talked, it wasn´t necessary She did the tango for us. -

tangos” Frases como esta, pronunciadas en un silencio de piedra, era lo que hacía que las mañanas con Graciela no tuvieran precio para mí.

Habían pasado dos semanas cuando, de repente, un día Graciela no apareció, ni al día siguiente tampoco. Yo estaba terminando mis bocetos en el cementerio. Al tercer día estuve a punto de desistir, pero, era tanta mi curiosidad, que diez minutos antes de la hora del mate ya estaba yo apostado en mi banco esperándola.

A las doce en punto, un féretro de madera oscura atravesaba la reja del cementerio, dando pequeños saltos sobre las traviesas del carro que lo transportaba. Lo seguía una comitiva muy especial for mada por cuatro caballeros maduros perfectamente enchaquetados de negro y cuatro mujeres también mayores y vestidas del mismo color, con marabúes rojos volando en torno a sus cuarteados cuellos y maquilladas hasta la exageración. El espectáculo era realmente chocante y, para completar la escena, música de tango rancio al compás de sus pasos. El grupo desfiló delante de mí dejándome maravillado y mudo de asombro. No reaccioné hasta que la comitiva tomó la curva a la altura de la madre doliente. Sentí el pinchazo de la curiosidad y salté del banco, alcanzando a verla justo en el momento en que se paraba frente al mausoleo de mármol negro. Fui acercán dome a ellos sin reparo. En ese momento, los caballeros tomaban sobre sus hombros el féretro mientras una de las mujeres abría la puerta de cristal. Introdujeron en silencio la caja de madera brillante y, cuando salió el último enchaquetado, se colocó, al igual que los demás, al lado de una de las señoras, como palomos buscando pa reja.

“Caminito” de Juan de Dios Filiberto llenó de vida un aire que olía a muerto. Las cuatro parejas comenzaron a bailar con la naturalidad de quienes se han dedicado a ello toda su vida, convirtiendo el suelo de piedra del cementerio en el escenario de una tanguería. Reconocí a Zozobrito Luján, la estrella de “El viejo almacén” de la calle Balcarce de hacía treinta años, en una de las señoras que marcaban círculos en el aire con sus piernas. Era como si el tango las hubiese devuelto a aquellas noches de tragos y facturas en el barrio de San Telmo.

I did not react until the procession tur ned the bend by the grieving mother. I felt a pang of curiosity and jumped down from the bench, and managed to see it just as it stopped in front of the mausoleum of black marble. I gradually approached them without hesitation. At that point, the gentlemen took the coffin onto their shoulders while one of the women ope ned the glass door. Silently, they put in the shiny wooden box, and when the last jacketed man left, he placed himself, just like the others, next to one of the ladies, like pigeons seeking a partner

“Caminito” by Juan de Dios Filiberto filled with life the air smelling of death. The four couples began to dance with the natu ralness of those who have spent their entire lives devoted to it, turning the stone ground of the cemetery into the stage of a tango dance. I recognised Zozobrito Luján, the star of “El viejo almacén” on Calle Balcarce thirty years ago, as one of the ladies making circles in the air with her legs. It was if the tango had brought them back to the nights of drinks and cakes in the neighbourhood of San Telmo.

When the music stopped, they bowed before the mausoleum and, then, the ladies took our violet colour garments from their

leo y, acto seguido, las señoras sacaron del bolso unas prendas de color violeta acompañadas de unos zapatos de tacón del mismo color y los depositaron con cuidado y con cara compungida en el interior del mausoleo.

Asistí inmóvil a la representación, deseando en mi interior adqui rir el color y el tacto de la piedra, deseando fundirme con su fría su perficie para pasar desapercibido. En un principio creí haberlo con seguido: el grupo pasó delante de mí sin mirarme. Sólo al final, Zozobrito Luján se volvió para preguntarme con un deje de tango en sus palabras:

- Pibe, ¿conocías a Graciela? Asentí y ella no se extrañó. Habló de la discreción natural de su compañera. - ¡Fíjate que llevaba cua renta años bailando con él - señaló con la cabeza la tumba de mármol negro - y nadie sabía que eran amantes! Hasta hace dos meses no nos enteramos de que ella se moría a chorros por la leucemia. Pen sábamos que el mal color se debía a la pena por Rubiroso, pero no. No obstante, la vimos mejorar sin motivo aparente hace unas sema nas.Arreglaba con rapidez la comida y la casa a pesar de los dolores porque, según decía, tenía que estar en el cementerio a las doce. La veíamos acarrear bolsas con empanadas, vino y tortas, pero nunca supimos qué hacía con la comida en el cementerio. Y ya, nos mori remos sin saberlo. ¿Y tú, pibe? ¿Sabes qué hacía Graciela con esa comida en un lugar donde sólo hay muertos?

Miré al cielo y en ese momento creí ver cómo la madre doliente de piedra por fin entregaba, sin poner resistencia, el alma de su hijo a los ángeles, mientras se despedía de él con la mano.

- No sé - contesté.Alo mejor sólo vino a presentar sus respetos al mundo de los muertos, al que ya casi pertenecía, y a despedirse del mundo de los vivos como mejor sabía hacerlo: bailando un tango.

- ¡Un tango! ¡Bah! Estos pibes de ahora… ¡que sabrás tú de tangos!ZozobritoLujánsealejóenbuscadelacomitivatrastabillando torpemente por entre los adoquines, dejando en el aire un perfume intenso a rosas viejas que, aún hoy, con todo mi prestigio como el mejor dibujante porteño, parece perseguirme cuando yo también trastabillo torpemente por entre los adoquines del cementerio de La Recoleta”.

- A tango! Oh! Kids nowadays.. what do you know about tangos! September has been packed with new enthusiasm, the creation of projects that will get underway very shortly, and im provements that have already begun. We have installed coloured fences in the different school playgrounds to improve safety, and we have decorated one of the entrance doors, giving it a more aesthe tic and, above all, more motivating feel. Also, we have invested in the installation of a public address system in our school that will improve communication in all of its premises, and above all it will include, as an innovative element, the introduc tion of piped music between the walls, replacing the bells that announced the change of subjects with songs from very different genres. Lastly, looking after emotional education and the transmis sion of values among our pupils, we have installed an aquarium whose main tenance will be carried out by different collaborating families, but that we will all enjoy, especially our children. With it, we aim to encourage the good treatment and care of all the animals, reduce stress, and have a calming effect on chil dren. Ultimately, we continue to try to create a beautiful, different and unique path. We are confident that the coming months will be packed with all this.

San Roque incrementa su población en un 45% durante el último cuarto de siglo

San Roque es una de las poblacio nes que más ha crecido de la provin cia en los últimos 25 años, según los datos del Instituto Nacional de Esta dística. La población se ha incre mentado en un 45 por ciento desde 1996 a 2021.

De los 45 municipios de la provincia, San Roque es uno de los pocos que se acerca al umbral del 50 % de in cremento de la población. En 1996 había censadas 22.168, y en 2021 esta cifra ascendió a 32.178, lo que supone un 45,16% de incremento

El alcalde de San Roque, Juan Car los Ruiz Boix, ha hecho referencia a estos datos señalando que “el muni cipio de San Roque sigue siendo atractivo para muchos vecinos de otras localidades, que deciden fijar su residencia y su nueva vida en cualquiera de sus núcleos de pobla ción”.

San Roque ha ido creciendo en los últimos años por encima de la media de la provincia de Cádiz, que sigue creciendo, “pero que sólo en el mu nicipio de San Roque ha crecido más

de un 45 por ciento de la población”, indicó.

“Hemos pasado de algo más de 22 mil habitantes hace justo 25 años a contar hoy con una población cen sada de 32,178 vecinos. Incluso a fecha de hoy, septiembre 2022, ha blamos ya de una población que su pera los 34 mil habitantes”.

El alcalde destaca que San Roque es un municipio “que sigue elevando sus cifras, no sólo en San Roque, ciudad, sino también en barriadas, en concreto destacan Guadiaro y la

Estación como las dos barriadas que más crecen. También lo ha hecho Puente Mayorga, por lo que se de duce que seguimos siendo un muni cipio con políticas atractivas, entre ellas, la limpieza viaria, la seguridad ciudadana, la agenda cultural, de eventos, de fiestas, de juventud que hace a nuestra localidad atractiva para fijar la residencia”.

Destacó también el alcalde “la polí tica fiscal, donde se valora a las fa milias y que se reduce el IBI hasta el mínimo legal, al igual que el “Sello

del Coche” o bien que el municipio presenta una oferta que no se in cluye dentro de las obligaciones de los municipios entre 20 y 50 mil ha bitantes”.

En este sentido, puso como ejem plo que “contamos con un servicio urbano de autobús, gratuito desde el pasado verano, que realiza tra yectos para unir la localidad, co nectar San Roque ciudad con las 10 barriadas; o la Universidad Po pular, con una oferta de más de 60 talleres”.

IV Bienal de Flamenco Canela San Roque, la llamada del arte

Con la Exposición de Dibujo Flamenco de Irene Vélez y la conferencia de Paco Perujo, con Fernando Canela al cante y Miguel Salado a la guitarra, dio comienzo la IV Bienal de Arte Fla menco “Canela de San Roque”. Desde el 6 y hasta el 22 de octubre habrá un total de 12 actividades, entre las que se incluyen además de recitales en las Peñas Flamencas del municipio, actua ciones en el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo y en el Palacio de los Gobernadores, conferencias y una exposición de dibu jos.

The Spanish Dressage Champion ship - Minors took place at Las Ca denas Riding Club in Camarma de Esteruelas (Madrid); an essential event for the most brilliant and com petitive young hopes in Classical Dressage in our country. On this oc casion there were two pairings from Dressage Sotogrande representing the San Roque club: Andrea Lozano riding Única and Curro Ramírez rid ing a new pony, Koni.

In the under-14´s event, one of the most popular of the Championship, the La Línea rider Andrea Lozano with her young PRE Única CLII, a horse from the Agustin Cadenas livestock farm in Campo de Gibral tar, showed her potential. Despite not achieving the average for the final, over the two days of competi tion, in a display of technique and elegance, she produced fantastic averages packed with 7´s that put her in the middle of the general ranking table.

In turn, the young La Línea rider Curro Ramírez (11-years-old), riding his new pony Koni, was the big sur prise of the Spanish Championship and he got the team pulsating in the stands with each stride of his re prise. With three magnificent events, he took silver and bronze in the events on Wednesday and Satur day, bronze in the Autonomous Communities; and lastly, to end, he experienced the excitement of hear ing the Spanish national anthem while wearing the bronze under-12´s Spanish Championship.

The IX Sotogrande Golf Circuit now has finalists for the big day of the year, on 18 November, at the historic and emblematic Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. A total of 18 champions who will enjoy a memorable day full of gifts, surprises and much more in the best atmosphere and with the best golf in southern

Europe.

The list of qualified players is formed by the players with the best three cards presented during the entire championship in their respective categories: Men´s First, Men´s Second, and Women.

A well-deserved award for their consistency, good work, good competitive level and of course, a luxury end to a great edition of the

Sotogrande Golf Circuit, the night, which has visited great altars of golf such as La Reserva Club de Sotogrande, Almenara Golf, Zagaleta New Course, La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort and Fairplay Golf & Spa.

La cosecha de Otoño

Esta temporada que comienza siempre viene cargada de gran variedad de tubérculos y frutas crujientes, que son ideles para cocinar recetas reconfortantes que disfrutamos cuando el cli ma comienza a enfriarse. Por si fuera poco, esas mismas sabrosas verduras y frutas otoñales están acompañadas de múltiples beneficios para la salud, así que querrás comerlas. In addition, it is advisable to buy locally to get the freshest sea sonal produce in your area. Farmers' markets are a good place to start, and are usually open until the autumn months, so there is the added value that they do not have to be transported from far away to get from the field to the table.
