El verano deja en la mayoría de los portales informativos, las conocidas como “serpientes de verano”, noticias y comunicaciones que poco o nada aportan al gran argumentario de la crónica política o económica, bastante en el ámbito social, y que permiten durante los grandes periodos vacaciones [eso será en otros puntos del mapa, ya me comprenden] rellenar horas y espacios de información que poco uso tienen.

Viviremos un verano muy atípico todos estos asuntos; bien por los comicios electorales del próximo 23 de julio [más de uno confundirá la tumbona y el mojito con la urna y el sobre]; además de todos los eventos y actividades que la misma zona tiene en marcha y proyecta para un verano que se antoja apasionante y completamente lleno de contenido.

Vamos a disfrutar de una regata imponente, de un torneo de polo internacional por todo lo alto con 22 goles en el alto HCP, algo a la altura de muy pocos destinos en el mundo y casi en ninguno en Europa; todo ello con la crónica social y estival de una urbanización que congrega a una de las comunidades internacionales más selectas del mundo.

El LIV Golf en sólo unos días, la Solheim en unas semanas a cinco minutos en coche y todo lo bueno que está por llegar [chiringuitos, festivales de música, fiestas y presentaciones, etc.]. Sí, Sotogrande está en todos los carteles este verano. Aprovechemos esta situación para el desarrollo y crecimiento que no para el enriquecimiento injustificado, es decir, “hacer el agosto”; una práctica ventajista al corto plazo y lesiva en el futuro.

We will experience a very atypical summer in all of these matters: due to the elections on 23 July (plenty of people will mistake the deckchair and mojito for the ballot box and envelope); as well as all the events and activities that the area has underway and is planning for a summer that looks exciting and completely packed with content.

We are going to enjoy a stunning regatta, an international polo tournament in great style with 22 goals in the high HCP, something that is within reach of very few destinations around the world and almost none in Europe; all with the social and summer chronicle of a resort that brings together one of the world’s most select international communities.

LIV Golf in just a few days, Solheim in a few weeks just five minutes away by car and everything good that is to come (beach bars, music festivals, parties, and presentations, etc.). Yes, Sotogrande is on every billboard this summer. We want to make the most of this situation for development and growth, but not for unjustified enrichment, which is to say, “cashing in;” an opportunistic practice in the short term and damaging in the future.

La vivienda en Andalucía, durante el final del primer semestre de 2023, tuvo un precio en ascenso del 0,93% frente al pasado mes e interanualmente, se produjo una subida del 9,98%, la tercera más alta de España.

Andalucía se situó a la misma distancia de la autonomía más cara, Baleares. En cuanto a la vivienda de segunda mano en España, en mayo de 2023 registró un precio medio de ascenso mensual del 0,46%. De un año a otro, la cifra regis-

trada marcó una subida del 6,74%.

De un mes a otro, Málaga (2,83%) fue la provincia española que más subió. Por su parte,) fue la provincia andaluza que más se ajustó según los datos del portal

especializado Pisos. Interanualmente, Málaga (17,57%) obtuvo el segundo puesto entre las provincias españolas que más crecieron.

En cuanto a las capitales andaluzas, Jaén (2,63%) fue la

tercera que más subió del país, mientras que Huelva (-1,41%) fue la sexta capital española que más se devaluó. Frente al pasado año, todas las capitales andaluzas subieron. Málaga (15,67%) fue la cuarta capital española que más subió.

rise of 9.98%, the third highest in Spain.

Andalusia was at the same distance from the most expensive autonomous region, the Balearic Islands. As for second-hand housing in Spain, in May 2023 it registered an average monthly price increase of 0.46%. Year-on-year, the figure registered a rise of 6.74%.

Month-on-month, Malaga (2.83%) was the Spanish province with the highest increase. La Oficina de Turismo y el Punto de Información de Puerto Sotogrande renuevan su Q de Calidad

La Oficina Municipal de Turismo del Palacio de los Gobernadores y el Punto de Información ubicado en Puerto Sotogrande han revalidado el certificado Q de Calidad Turística, que otorga el Instituto para la Calidad Turística Española (ICTE). Este reconocimiento confirma el compromiso del Ayuntamiento de San Roque en brindar servicios turísticos de calidad y excelencia.

Según informa la Delegación

de Turismo, que dirige la concejal en funciones Ana Ruiz, la renovación de este certificado supone haber superado un riguroso proceso de evaluación que considera aspectos como la calidad del servicio al cliente, la eficiencia operativa y la promoción del turismo responsable y sostenible. Para lograr este objetivo ha sido fundamental la aportación de la consultora Qsistema. Se trata, en fin, de ofrecer información precisa y actuali-

zada, así como la promoción de un turismo responsable y sostenible, para que los visitantes disfruten al máximo de su experiencia en San Roque y sus alrededores. Hay que recordar que la Oficina Municipal de Turismo cuenta con esta Q de Calidad desde 2008, y que el Punto de Información Turística funciona en Puerto Sotogrande desde 2013.

The Tourism Office and Information Point of Sotogrande Port renew their Q for Quality

The Municipal Tourism Office of the Governor’s Palace and the Information Point located in Sotogrande Port have retained the Q for Tourism Quality certificate which is awarded by the Spanish Institute for Tourist Quality (ICTE).

This recognition confirms the commitment of the Council of San Roque to offer quality and excellent tourist services.

According to the Department of Tourism, run by the serving de-

legate Ana Ruiz, the renewal of this certificate involves overcoming a rigorous evaluation process which considers aspects such as the quality of customer service, operational efficiency and the promotion of responsible and sustainable tourism. In order to achieve this objective, the contribution of the consultancy firm Qsistema was essential.

Ultimately, this is about offering

accurate and up-to-date information, and also promoting responsible and sustainable tourism, so that visitors can fully enjoy their experience in San Roque and its surrounding area. It is necessary to remember that the Municipal Tourism Office has held this Q for Quality since 2008, and that the Tourism Information Point has been operating in the Port of Sotogrande since 2013.

Pesar por el fallecimiento de Teodoro González

Triste perdida de un grandísimo conocido en el golf de Sotogrande. Lamentamos comunicar que el pasado 14 de junio falleció Teodoro González a sus 90 años, que siempre se le recordará como uno de los profesores de golf más queridos en el Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande. De parte de toda la redacción del grupo HCP y, especialmente, del Periódico del Sotogrande trasmitir nuestro pesar a su familia. Teodoro ha sido un renombrado profesor de golf en Sotogrande, por sus manos han pasado cientos de alumnos a los que les ha ayudado a amar el golf y mejorar el swing. No era un profesor clásico, le gustaba observar al alumno y ver cuales eran sus fallos para hacerlo mejorar. Una de las cosas a destaca de su trabajo es que desarrollo una técnica particular que en la que instruía mediante dos palos.

Sorrow at passing of Teodoro González

Sad loss of a truly great friend of golf in Sotogrande. We regret to report that on 14 June Teodoro González passed away at the age of 90, he will always be remembered as one of the most beloved golf coaches at Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande. On behalf of the entire editorial office at Grupo HCP and especially, at El Periódico de Sotogrande, we want to convey our condolences to his family.

Teodoro was a renowned golf coach in Sotogrande, hundreds of students passed through his hands, whom he helped to love golf and improve their swing. He was not a classic coach; he liked to observe students and see what their errors were in order to make them improve. One of the things to highlight about his work is that he developed a particular technique in which he taught using two clubs.

Originally from Madrid, his links to Sotogrande began when he was given an offer to teach classes. At that time, he was in Real Club de Golf Costa de Azahara in Castellón, but he decided to embark on a new adventure uniting the two things he loved most. A man who was always immersed in golf and teaching. We want to convey our most heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends.

De origen madrileño, su vinculación con Sotogrande comenzó cuando le propusieron una oferta para dar clases. Por aquella época, él estaba en el Real Club de Golf Costa de Azahara en Castellón, pero decidió embarcarse en una

nueva aventura uniendo las dos cosas que más le apasionaban. Un hombre que siempre ha estado volcado en el golf y la docencia. Trasmitir nuestro más sentido pésame a toda la familia y amigos.

Un verano inolvidable para los más pequeños de la casa

• La Reserva Club presenta una propuesta insuperable para los ‘peques’ de la familia. Un extraordinario campamento de verano y Liverpool Football School que se convierten en la mejor propuesta de entretenimiento este verano en Sotogrande.

La Reserva Club presenta un espectacular campamento de verano para niños en Sotogrande. Desde el lunes 3 de julio y hasta el viernes 18 de agosto, los más pequeños, entre 6 y 12 años, disfrutarán de un sinfín de actividades, entretenimiento, juegos y muchas sorpresas más.

Escuela Liverpool Football Club

Este verano, también se presenta una emocionante novedad en el campamento en La Reserva Club para los más futboleros. Los entrenadores del Liverpool Football Club, uno de los equipos más famosos del mundo, organizarán un campamento en el Colegio Internacional de Sotogrande con dos sesiones diarias disponibles para diferentes grupos de edad. Esta fantástica propuesta de la Escuela de Fútbol del Liverpool FC, se celebra del lunes 31 de julio al viernes 18 de agosto.

De 8:00 a 9:45, para los niños de seis a ocho años, y de 16:00 a 17:45 para los de nueve a doce años. Los apasionados del fútbol tendrán la oportunidad de aprender de algunos de los mejores entrenadores, que les ofrecerán consejos y conocimientos únicos. Esta experiencia única está disponible por un suplemento por semana.

• La Reserva Club is presenting an unbeatable proposal for the little ones in the family. An extraordinary summer camp and Liverpool Football School which are becoming the best entertainment proposal this summer in Sotogrande.

La Reserva Club is presenting a spectacular summer camp for children in Sotogrande.

From Monday 3 July up until Friday 18 August, the little ones, aged between 6 and 12, will enjoy endless activities, entertainment, games and many more surprises.

With a complete or half-day proposal, the youngest ones will have the chance to enjoy the fantastic activities offered by Sotogrande®. Golf, tennis, padel, horse rides, football and water sports are some of the activities included each day, a programme that will undoubtedly add fun to any summer holidays plan.

Each day will begin at 10 in the morning and end at 5 in the

afternoon, with a break for children to eat in between and get their energy back. The summer camp will have a weekly price (Monday to Friday) for a full day. On the other hand, it also includes attending for single days or half days.

Liverpool Football Club School

As a new addition this summer, an exciting summer camp will also be offered for children at La Reserva Club, an exciting campus of the Liverpool FC Football School, from Monday 31 July to Friday 18 August. The coaches at Liverpool Football Club, one of the world’s most famous teams, will organise a camp at Sotogrande International School with two daily

sessions available for different age groups.

From 8:00 to 9:45, for children aged six to eight, and from 16:00 to 17:45 for those aged nine to twelve. Football devotees will have the chance to learn from some of the best coaches, who will offer them tips and unique knowledge. This unique experience is available for a supplement per week.

Jimena Garrido, tercera finalista en el certamen de Miss Universo Andalucía

Hablamos con Jimena Garrido, de 22 años, que el pasado 10 de junio se proclamó 3ª finalista del concurso de Miss Universo Andalucía, celebrado en Torremolinos. Nacida en Marbella, pero criada en San Roque, nos habla del crecimiento personal que ha supuesto el concurso para ella “ha sido una experiencia muy enriquecedora, me llevo muchos aprendizajes.”

Se encuentra cursando cuarto de psicología mientras trabaja en un colegio en Suiza, donde se desenvuelve en varios idiomas. Tiene vocación por ayudar a los demás, con especial interés en niños con necesidades educativas especiales, y tiene intención de seguir compaginando sus estudios y carrera profesional con el mo-

Jimena Garrido 3rd finalist in Miss Universe Andalusia contest

We spoke to Jimena Garrido, aged 22, who on 10 June was named the 3rd finalist of the Miss Universe Andalusia contest, held in Torremolinos. Born in Marbella, but raised in San Roque, she spoke to us about the personal growth that the competition has provided for it, “it has been a very enriching experience, it has taught me many lessons.”

She is in her fourth year of a

psychology degree while working at a school in Switzerland, where she uses several languages. She has a vocation to help others, with a special interest in children with special education needs, and she intends to continue combining her studies and professional career with modelling. Jimena spoke with joy about her beginnings in fashion, “aged 13 I began modelling locally in So-

togrande and Marbella”, they are memories she cherishes with lots of affection.

Miss Universe Andalusia entered her life by coincidence, she was in the airport on the way to Malaga when she saw the casting, which coincided with her return, therefore she didn’t think twice and decided to try her luck. After several try-outs, she was given the chance to represent her muni-

• En su discurso, el primer edil sanroqueño adelanta algunas de sus prioridades para el mandato 2023/27, con el objetivo de llegar a 50.000 habitantes en 2050 y incrementar las politícas sociales y de inversión en el municipio.

Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, cabeza de lista del PSOE en las elecciones locales del pasado 28 de mayo, fue investido el pasado 17 de junio como alcalde de San Roque por cuarta vez consecutiva durante el Pleno de Constitución de la nueva Corporación Municipal. La sesión se desarrolló en el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo ante abundante público. En su discurso, el primer edil adelantó algunas de sus prioridades para el mandato 2023/27, con el objetivo de llegar a 50.000 habitantes en 2050. El pleno se inició con la constitución de la mesa de edad, que presidió la sesión hasta la elección del alcalde. Esta mesa estuvo presidida por el concejal de mayor edad, el representante de VOX José Luis García Manzanares, ejerciendo como vocal el concejal más joven, el edil del PSOE Alfonso Valdivia Barranco, bajo la supervisión de la secretaria general, Ana Núñez de Cossío. Una vez cumplidos estos requisitos legales, se procedió a la votación de los candidatos que optaban a ser alcalde o alcaldesa. Cada uno de los ediles se acercó a la mesa de edad para depositar su voto en una urna, con el siguiente resultado: doce vo-

tos para Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix; cinco votos para Daniel Rodríguez Ruiz; tres votos para María Teresa García León; y uno para José Luis García Manzanares.

Tras el recuento por parte de la secretaria general, se proclamó a Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix como alcalde de San Roque, por cuarta ocasión consecutiva. El primer edil recibió el bastón de mando, que representa su toma de posesión del cargo, y prometió el cargo con la fórmula habitual.

Finalmente, el alcalde pronunció un discurso, que comenzó con momentos de gran emoción cuando se refirió a su familia, en especial a su padre, fallecido durante el pasado mandato. “San Roque, Más y Mejor.

No es solo un eslogan, sino es el norte que nos guiará en estos próximos cuatro años para ejecutar el Programa de Gobierno que los sanroqueños y sanroqueñas nos han encomendado con su voto que hagamos realidad. Más y Mejor Empleo: Estamos ahora en unas cifras de desempleo similares a la de años anteriores a la pandemia. Y nuestro reto, además de mantener y reforzar los planes municipales extraordi-

narios para la contratación de personas desempleadas, sigue siendo bajar de los 3.000 parados, apostando para ello por atraer nuevas inversiones para nuestros principales motores económicos: El turismo y la industria”, explicó.

“Más y mejores Políticas Sociales: Somos el municipio de la provincia que más fondos destinados a las Políticas Sociales y vamos a seguir dotando de los recursos económicos necesarios los programas de atención a las familias vulnerables”.

Finalizó con un repaso a todos los proyectos en marcha y en ejecución como: reforma del antiguo Ayuntamiento, puesta en marcha de la nueva sede de la Universidad Popular, aperturas de las sendas ciclable Guadarranque-Puente y San Roque Casco-Casino, nuevos parques infantiles Barbésula en Guadiario y Villa Victoria, rehabilitación del Parque La Rosaleda de Campamento, nuevo Edificio Multiusos Torreguadiaro, centro de Formación “Lorenzo Pérez”, rehabilitación del pabellón B del edificio Diego Salinas, la pasarela peatonal sobre el río Guadiaro, entre muchos otros.

Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, top of the PSOE list in the local elections of 28 May, was sworn in on 17 June as mayor of San Roque for the fourth consecutive time during the Plenary to Establish the new Municipal Corporation. The session took place at the Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo before a large audience.

In his speech, the mayor announced some of his priorities for the 2023/27 mandate, with the aim of reaching 50,000 inhabitants in 2050.

The plenary started with the establishment of the interim bureau, which presided the session up until the election of the mayor. This bureau was chaired by the oldest delegate, the VOX representative José Luis García Manzanares, actin as spokesperson was the youngest councillor, the PSOE delegate Alfonso Valdivia Barranco, under the supervision of the secretary general, Ana Núñez de Cossío.

Having met these legal requirements, the vote for the candida-

tes standing to be mayor or mayoress took place. Each of the councillors came to the interim bureau to cast their vote in a ballot box, with the following result:

twelve votes for Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix; five votes for Daniel Rodríguez Ruiz; three votes for María Teresa García León; and one for José Luis García Manzanares. After the count by the secretary general, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix was proclaimed mayor of San Roque, for the fourth consecutive

Lastly, the mayor gave a speech, which began with moments of great emotion when he referred to his family, especially his father who passed away during the last mandate. “San Roque, More and Better. It isn’t only a slogan, but rather it is the guiding star that will lead us over the next four

years to implement the Government plan that the people of San Roque have entrusted us with to make a reality. More and Better Employment: We now have unemployment figures similar to that of years prior to the pandemic. And our challenge, in addition to maintaining and strengthening the extraordinary municipal plans for hiring unemployed people, remains dropping below 3,000 unemployed, thus committing to attracting new investments for our

main economic driving forces: Tourism and industry” he explained.

“More and better Social Policies: We are the municipality in the province that has allocated more funds to Social Policies and we are going to continue providing the necessary economic resources for programmes to assist vulnerable families.” He ended by looking at all the projects underway and being implemented such as: renovation of the old Council, launch of the new headquarters of the Open University opening of the Guadarranque-Puente and San Roque Casco-Casino cycle paths, new Barbésula children’s parks in Guadiaro and Villa Victoria, renovation of La Rosaleda Park in Campamento, new Multi-Purpose Building in Torreguadiaro, “Lorenzo Pérez” Training centre, renovation of pavilion B of the Diego Salinas building, the pedestrian crossing over the Guadiaro river, among many others.

Sergio Garcia: “La llegada de LIV Golf a Valderrama será espectacular”

El golfista de Borriol, Sergio García, destacó en una reciente entrevista [recogida entre otros medios por el portal especializado Tennis Wolrd News], algunas de sus principales sensaciones ante la llegada por primera vez de LIV Golf a España, concretamente al Real Club Valderrama, a finales del mes de junio.

Entre algunas de sus principales conclusiones sobre esta competición destaca, entre otros aspectos, que la media de edad de sus espectadores “mucho más baja” que en otros torneos “de la PGA o de cualquier otro circuito”, lo que considera “muy bueno” para potenciar la cantera en este deporte y su difusión.

Respecto a su regreso a Valderrama y de los nuevos formatos de competición [por equipos] que aporta LIV Golf, detalla que “siempre es mucho más fácil como aficionado al deporte ser seguidor de un

equipo que de muchos jugadores”, dijo, además de destacar que esto “es algo que va a gustar a todo el mundo”. Para el golfista castellonense, “lo más importante” es “tener gente joven involucrada en tu deporte”, además de incidir

In a recent interview (which was picked up by the specialised site Tennis World News among other media outlets), the golfer from Borriol, Sergio García, highlighted some of his main feelings ahead of the arrival of LIV Golf in Spain for the first time, specifically, at Real Club Valderrama, at the end of June.

Among some of his main conclusions about this competition, he highlights, among other aspects, that the average age of its spectators is “much lower” than at other tournaments “of the PGA or any other circuit” which he considers “really good” to encourage young players in this sport and its promotion.

As for his return to Valderrama and the new competition formats (teams) that LIV Golf provides, he states that “it is always much easier as a fan of sport to be the follower of a team than lots of players,” and also highlighted that “it is something that everyone is going to like.” For the Castellon golfer, “the most important thing is to have young people involved in your sport” and he also stressed the importance of this fact for the future of the golf academy.

He stated that returning to play in Valderrama, this time at a LIV tournament, is a “dream come true” for the player who views the legendary course as his “favourite” and he won the Andalucía Masters tournament in 2011, 2017, and 2018.

Some people think that golf, a key sport in Sotogrande, is not popular, when in reality it ranks third in Spain in terms of number of federated members, after football and hunting. This distorted image is also linked to another mistake, which is the little recognition that there often is of the economic importance of golf which is, even if it does not seem like it, a great industry.

According to a study carried out by IE University, which was also repor-

ted a while ago by the newspaper La Razón, golf, which attracts 1.2 travellers a year, represents a tourism business of 13.000 million Euros, an investment of 42.000 million in second homes, and the direct and indirect creation of more than 120,000 stable, quality, and well-paid jobs.

One of the most important golfing areas of Spain is Andalusia, where more than 100,000 foreign golfers own a home, and especially, as Marca reported, on the “Costa del

Sol and the easternmost side of the province of Cadiz.”

The entire area of Campo de Gibraltar, and in particular our Sotogrande, has benefitted from the positive economic and social impact of the golfing industry in Spain, which is the leading European destination in this sport, notably with the British, Germans and Nordic countries. The

level of income and average expenditure of the travellers coming from abroad to play on any of the more than 400 Spanish golf courses is greater than the average of those who visit our country every year.

Although most golf tourists come from the rest of Europe, over recent years the number of non-Europeans has increased, some even

come from my far-flung native Argentina, from where in Sotogrande we are used to welcoming polo players, but not golfers.

Javier Reviriego: “LIV Golf ha cambiado la dinámica del golf profesional”

Es un placer contar con tu presencia en este especial, en los días previos a la llegada de LIV Golf a Valderrama. Estamos ante uno de los eventos deportivos de mayor repercusión internacional de las últimas décadas… Así es; no sólo es el primer torneo de LIV Golf que se va a disputar en España, sino en Europa Continental. Es un acontecimiento mayúsculo y percibimos que hay una gran expectación. También notamos que existe una ilusión especial por ver a un elenco de jugadores de enorme calidad, máximas estrellas y que la mayoría aún no han jugado en España. Además, parece más que asegurado el buen tiempo y espero que tengamos una semana extraordinaria.

Y además llega en un momento clave para el golf internacional, tras el reciente anuncio de esa alianza entre LIV Golf, PGA y DP World.

Estamos muy contentos con el anuncio; es algo muy positivo y que, de entrada, pone fin a todos los litigios legales y a la hostilidad entre las partes. Ahora tendrán que explicar bien la parte comercial del acuerdo; espero que aporten soluciones que lleven al crecimiento del golf profesional en todas sus áreas. Es importante consensuar un modelo de circuito o circuitos que sea atractivo para los espectadores, los jugadores y para los sponsors. Para Valderrama, sin duda, es una gran noticia porque esperamos que el nuevo acuerdo se traduzca en que podamos atraer a jugadores de mayor nivel los próximos años. Dicho

esto, creo que es mejor ser cautos y esperar acontecimientos; todavía queda mucha información por conocerse, pero en principio nos ilusiona la posibilidad de tener a jugadores como Jon Rahm o Jordan Speith en el futuro. En cualquier caso, pase lo que pase, no se puede negar que LIV Golf ha cambiado totalmente la dinámica del golf profesional.

¿Esto refuerza aún más la apuesta que hizo Real Club Valderrama por LIV Golf?

Es cierto que en un primer momento era una apuesta, LIV Golf es un circuito completamente nuevo, pero teníamos claro que el futuro podría estar en esa dirección. Personalmente creía que el acuerdo entre todas las partes llegaría tarde o temprano pero sí nos ha sorprendido que haya sido tan rápido. Mucho antes de lo esperado.

¿Esta alianza es muy positiva para los jugadores y los torneos?

Una vez que se ha llegado a la “paz”, imagino que uno de los aspectos positivos del acuerdo es que cada jugador, libremente, podrá decidir dónde quiere jugar. Para los espectadores, sin duda será también será positivo; lo que queremos los aficionados al golf es que las grandes estrellas compitan entre ellos el mayor número de semanas posibles. Esto no ha ocurrido en el último año.

El campo se encuentra, como siempre, espectacular. ¿Junio es una de las épocas del calendario

más propicias para presentar el campo?

Nuestro torneo casi siempre se ha celebrado en octubre, una época que a veces era lluviosa, junio es un periodo fantástico. Te diría que a nivel visual el campo luce mejor en los meses de mayo y junio; esto tendrá una influencia muy positiva en el impacto visual del campo en TV.

Un evento de LIV Golf significa mucho más que golf, toda una experiencia para el espectador… Creo que ésa es la principal diferencia de LIV GOLF respecto al resto de eventos que hemos acogido en el pasado; la experiencia del espectador es increíble. Hay mucho más que golf durante la semana del torneo, muchísimas actividades para los asistentes, para los niños y además el formato permite una mayor cercanía con los jugadores. Es un ambiente mucho más distendido y divertido. Estoy convencido de que tendremos mucho público y que todo el destino se beneficiará de ello, cuando digo destino me refiero a San Roque, a Sotogrande y por supuesto a Andalucía en su conjunto. Ya somos destino número uno en turismo de golf y eventos de esta magnitud refuerzan esta posición.

Se espera un tremendo plantel de jugadores para el torneo. ¿Qué nombre debemos seguir de cerca?

Sergio [García],evidentemente, es una de las grandes atracciones del torneo. Siempre ha ju-

gado muy bien en Valderrama y acumula más de un triunfo; si está inspirado será el gran rival a batir. También podremos disfrutar del último ganador del British Open, Cameron Smith, y de una de las grandes leyendas de la PGA, Phil Mickelson. También será muy interesante ver a jugadores como Bryson DeChambeau, uno de los jugadores más mediáticos, o Bubba Watson. LIV Golf cuenta con una combinación de estrellas para todos los gustos, podremos disfrutar de grandes pegadores, será muy interesante seguirles y ver cómo se desenvuelven en un campo como Valderrama.

¿Un trazado tan técnico sorprenderá a estos ‘ mega pegadores’?

Si, es verdad, probablemente a muchos les va a sorprender Valderrama. No es un campo largo para los estándares actuales, pero, claro, se van a encontrar con un recorrido muy técnico. Veremos diferentes estrategias y será muy interesante comprobar cómo atacan el campo cada uno de ellos. Lo importante es que se

vea un gran espectáculo. Antes de acabar Javier, no siempre se le da el valor que tiene todos estos eventos suponen un impulso enorme para la imagen del destino. Un evento de estas de esta trascendencia posiciona de una manera superlativa a Sotogrande y su área de influencia.

Hemos tenido un gran apoyo por parte de las diferentes administraciones [Ayuntamiento, Diputación, Junta de Andalucía,..], han tenido esa visión y entendido que se trata de un evento con una enorme repercusión internacional que coloca en una privilegiada posición a Sotogrande a San Roque y a Andalucía. Nosotros ya estamos muy consolidados como destino de golf, pero no hay que olvidar que esto comenzó con la Ryder Cup y ahora se puede decir que somos líderes en Europa por la calidad de campos que hay en esta zona. Es difícil encontrar un destino que tenga mejores campos en un entorno concreto y creo que este evento lo que hace es reforzar la visibilidad para el destino, atrae potenciales turistas y golfistas en el futuro. En definitiva, dinamiza la economía local, crea puestos de trabajo. Mientras podamos, seguiremos apostando por este tipo de eventos.

El público norteamericano, precisamente, tiene una fuerte pujanza.

Este año se da circunstancia que a través de LIV Golf y de la Solheim Cup [en Finca Cortesín], tendremos una gran visibilidad en un mercado muy potente y que tradicionalmente no tenía un gran impacto en Andalucía. El mercado norteamericano es el más importante del mundo respecto al sector golf y estos eventos son una gran oportunidad para que nos conozcan más y demostrar la enorme calidad de servicios y nivel que tenemos en Andalucía.

“LIV Golf involves much more than a great golf event”

It is a pleasure to have you in this special, in the days before LIV Golf comes to Valderrama. We are looking forward to one of the sporting events with the greatest international impact of recent decades…

Indeed, not only is it the first LIV Golf tournament to take place in Spain, but rather, it is the first in Europe. It is a major event and we note that there is attention and a special excitement to watch a line-up of players of enormous quality, top stars and the majority have still not played in Spain; I believe that it will be a real success in terms of the public and for fans. Also, the good weather seems to be guaranteed and we will have an extraordinary week.

And it also comes at a key time for international golf, following the recent announcement of the partnership between LIV Golf, PGA and DP World.

We are very happy with the announcement; it is a very positive thing and it puts an end to all the legal disputes and hostility between the parties for a start. Now they will have to explain well the commercial part of the agreement; I hope that they will provide solutions that will lead to the growth of professional golf in all its areas. It is important to agree on a model of circuit or circuits that is attractive to spectators, players and sponsors.

For Valderrama, this is undoubtedly great news because we hope that the new agreement will translate into us being able to attract players of a higher level in the coming years. That said, I think it is better to be cautious and wait for developments; there is still a lot of information to be known, but in principle we are excited about the possibility of having players like Jon Rahm or Jordan Speith in the future. In any case, whatever happens, there is no denying that LIV Golf has totally changed the dynamics of professional golf.

Does this further strengthen the bed that Real Club Valderrama made on LIV Golf?

It is true that it was initially a bet, LIV Golf is a completely new circuit, but we were certain that the future could be moving in that direction. I personally believed that the agreement between all the parties would come sooner or later but it has surprised us that it was quicker than expected.

Is this alliance very positive for players and tournaments?

Once “peace” has been reached, I imagine that one of the positive aspects of the agreement is that each player will be free to decide where he or she wants to play. For spectators, it will no doubt also be positive; what we golf fans want is for the big stars to compete against each other for as many weeks as possible. This has not happened in the last year.

The course is, as always, spectacular. Is June one of the best times of the calendar to present the course?

Our tournament has almost always been held in October, a time that was sometimes rainy, June is a fan-

tastic period I would say that visually the course looks best in May and June; this will have a very positive influence on the visual impact of the course on TV.

A LIV Golf event means much more than just golf, it’s a spectator experience.... I think that is the main difference between LIV GOLF and the other events we have hosted in the past; the spectator experience is incredible. There is much more than just golf during the week of the tournament, lots of activities for the spectators, for the children and also the format allows a greater closeness with the players. It is a much more relaxed and fun atmosphere. I am convinced that we will have a lot of public and that the whole destination will benefit from it, when I say destination I mean San Roque, Sotogrande and of course Andalusia as a whole. We are already the number one destination for golf tourism and events of this magnitude reinforce this position.

A fantastic line-up of players is expected for the tournament. Which name should we closely follow?

Sergio [García], of course, is one of the great attractions of the tournament. He has always played very well at Valderrama and has amassed more than one triumph; if he is inspired he will be the great rival to beat. We will also be able to enjoy the last winner of the British Open, Cameron Smith, and one of the great PGA legends, Phil Mickelson. It will also be very interesting to see players such as DeChambeau, one of the showiest players, and Bubba Watson. LIV Golf has a combination of stars to suit all tastes, we can enjoy big hitters, it will be very interesting to follow them and see how they deal with a course like Valderrama.

Will such a technical course surprise them?

Yes, it is true, many of them will probably be surprised by Valderrama. It is not a long course for the standards of these players, but, of course, they are going to encounter a very technical course, we will see different strategies and we will see how each of them attack the course. It will be a real spectacle.

Before finishing Javier, the value that all of these events have is not always acknowledged, they are a great boost for the image of the

destination. An event of this significance positions Sotogrande and its entire area of influence in a superlative way. We have had great support from the different administrations (Council, Provincial Council, Regional Government of Andalusia...), they have had the vision and understood that this is an event with an enormous

international impact that places Sotogrande, San Roque, and the region in a privileged position. Ultimately, these events are the ones that create a destination. We are very well-established as a destination, but it should not be forgotten that this started with the Ryder Cup and it can now be said that we are leaders in Europe for the quality

of the courses that there are in this area. It is difficult to find a destination that has better courses in a specific area and I believe that what this event does is strengthen visibility for the destination, it attracts potential tourists and golfers in the future. Ultimately, it reinvigorates the local economy, it creates jobs and meanwhile we can continue to commit to these kinds of events.

The American public, indeed, is very strong.

This year we have the situation that through LIV Golf and the Solheim Cup (at Finca Cortesín), we will have great visibility in a very strong market which traditionally did not have a big impact in Andalusia. The American market is the most important in the world in relation to the golf sector and these events are a great opportunity for them to get to know us better and show the enormous quality of services and level that we have in Andalucia.

PGA TOUR, DP World Tour y LIV Golf, una alianza imparable

El PGA TOUR, DP World Tour y el Fondo de Inversión Pública saudí (FIP) anunciaron un acuerdo histórico para unificar el juego del golf, a nivel mundial. Las partes firmaron un acuerdo que combina los negocios y derechos comerciales relacionados con el golf del PIF (LIV Golf) con los del PGA TOUR y el DP World Tour en una nueva entidad de propiedad colectiva para garantizar que todas las partes interesadas se beneficien de un modelo que ofrezca la máxima emoción y competición entre los mejores jugadores del mundo. Además, el FIP realizará una inversión de capital en la nueva entidad para facilitar su crecimiento y éxito. La nueva entidad (cuyo nombre aún está por determinar) pondrá en marcha un plan para hacer crecer estos negocios comerciales combinados, impulsar un mayor compromiso de los aficionados y acelerar las iniciativas de crecimiento ya en marcha. Con LIV Golf en mitad de su segunda e innovadora temporada, PGA TOUR, DP World Tour y PIF trabajarán juntos para presentar y hacer crecer el golf por equipos en el futuro.

En particular, el anuncio será seguido por un acuerdo mutuo para poner fin a todos los litigios

pendientes entre las partes participantes. Además, las tres organizaciones trabajarán en cooperación y de buena fe para establecer un proceso justo y objetivo para cualquier jugador que desee volver a solicitar la

membresía en el PGA TOUR o el DP World Tour tras la finalización de la temporada 2023 y para determinar criterios justos y términos de readmisión, en consonancia con las políticas de cada circuito.

PGA TOUR, DP World Tour and LIV Golf, an unstoppable partnership

The PGA TOUR, DP World Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced an historic agreement to unify the game of golf, worldwide. The parties signed an agreement which combines the businesses and commercial rights relating to the golf of the PIF (LIV Golf) with those of the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour into a new collectively owned entity in order to guarantee that all the interested parties benefit from a model that offers maximum excitement and competition among the world’s best players.

Also, the PIF will make an investment of capital into the new entity to facilitate its growth and success. The new entity (whose name is yet to be determined) will launch a plan to make these combined commercial businesses grow, encourage a greater commitment by fans and speed-up the growth initiatives that are already underway. With LIV Golf in the middle of its second and innovative season, PGA TOUR, DP World Tour and PIF will work together to present and make team golf grow in the future.

In particular, the announcement will be followed by a mutual agreement in order to end all the pending disputes between the participating parties. Also, the three organisations will work in cooperation and good faith to establish a fair and objective process for any player who wishes to apply for membership on the PGA TOUR or the DP World Tour after the completion of the 2023 season and in order to fair criteria and terms for re-admission in line with the policies of each circuit.

Eugenio López-Chacarra: “Me veo con mi familia en un lugar como Sotogrande”

Un placer tenerte en nuestra revista y más aún con la llegada y el desembarco de LIV Golf en el Real Club Valderrama, en pleno corazón de Sotogrande. Si echas la vista atrás, ¿crees qué todo está yendo muy deprisa? Ha tenido un crecimiento exponencial en su trayectoria como golfista.

El placer es mío. Como bien dices, es cierto que todo está yendo muy rápido en mi trayectoria desde los últimos meses. Haber ganado un importante torneo tan pronto [Bangkok en octubre de 2022] y estar en cada competición compartiendo cartel con los

a la altura de los mejores, me ha transmitido mucha confianza. Ahora tengo que seguir trabajando de la mano del fantástico equipo que tengo a mi alrededor.

¿Qué significó esa victoria en Bangkok el pasado octubre? Muchísimo. En especial a nivel de confianza en mí mismo y respeto en el mundo del golf. Sentí que era el primer fruto, la primera recompensa a ese gran esfuerzo durante años por parte de mi familia, equipo y personas que confiaron en mi desde el principio. Fue algo muy especial.

¿Cómo te ha cambiado su vida desde entonces?

Empiezan a hablar de ti, sales en los medios, los especialistas hablan de tu juego. Pasas a otro escalón. Los grandes jugadores antes ni me conocían y ahora me saluda todos como a uno más, como un igual. En lo personal , sí sigo siendo el mismo.

El desembarco del LIV en Sotogrande es uno movimiento estratégico de muchos quilates para la visibilidad del golf en España. ¿El futuro del golf profesional pasa por LIV?

Para mí sí, LIV está haciendo

las cosas muy bien. Van a venir importantísimos jugadores a España, algo que no pasaba desde hacía más de 20 años, desde el último Campeonato del Mundo en Valderrama. Tener la oportunidad de ver jugadores como Koepka, Mickelson, DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith o Sergio García, sería algo imposible sin LIV. Es un producto nuevo que atrae mucho, gusta y su formatos de competición lo hacen muy interesante.

¿Conocía Valderrama más allá de su leyenda?

Sí, por supuesto. Tengo la suerte de que mi agente [Gonzalo], veranea aquí y he podido disfrutarlo y jugarlo numerosas veces. Es un campo especial, para mí es el Augusta de Europa. Tengo muchas ganas de jugar un torneo en Valderrama.

¿Qué otras referencias tienes de Sotogrande?

Es un lugar único. Un destino magnífico para estar con la familia, para ir de vacaciones y por supuesto para disfrutar del golf. He tenido la oportunidad de jugar mucho en el Real Club de Golf Sotogrande o en La Hacienda, en el magnífico Links, entre otros campos de

la zona, además de Valderrama. Es un lugar especial y me veo perfectamente preparando la pretemporada en Sotogrande y en un futuro, con mi familia, disfrutando de un entorno así. Encantado de venir a competir aquí.

¿Qué profecía y anécdota guarda con Seve?

La familia de mi padre es cántabra y tuvimos mucha relación entre ambas familias en mi niñez. Tuve la suerte de conocerlo de pequeño y le dije que me gustaría ser como él. Seve, en ese momento, me dijo unas palabras que no he olvidado y que me acompañan en todo este camino. Me explicó que si quería ser como él debía trabajar igual que él., que nunca era suficiente y siempre se puede dar más. Es algo que llevo en mi cabeza y me ayuda e inspira en mi trabajo diario. Cuando no tengo ganas de ir al gimnasio o de entrenar, recuerdos sus palabras. Tengo ese consejo muy presente como motivación.

¿Con qué trofeo sueñas?

El Masters de Augusta y el Bristish Open. Para mí son los dos torneos más importantes del mundo y ojalá algún día puede estar peleando por

ellos.

Cómo le gusta divertirse a Eugenio López –Chacarra cuando suelta la bolsa de palos. ¿Qué aficiones tienes? Principalmente los deportes, me encanta jugar al pádel y el fútbol, tengo la suerte de tener amigos tanto en el Atleti [de Madrid], como en el Real Madrid y disfruto mucho viendo sus partidos. La gastronomía es otra de mis pasiones, me encanta salir a comer con amigos en restaurantes y descubrir nuevas cocinas.

It is a pleasure to have you in our magazine and even more so with the arrival of LIV Golf at Real Club Valderrama, in the heart of Sotogrande. If you look back, do you think that everything is going very quickly? You have hand exponential growth in your trajectory as a golfer.

The pleasure is mine. As you rightly say, it is true that everything has been going very quickly in my career in recent months. Having won an important tournament so soon (Bangkok in October 2022) and being in each competition sharing the line-up with the best players in the world (LIV Golf) is something that is difficult to predict. I knew that I was capable of achieving it, I was No.1 Amateur in the USA, but when you turn professional everything is very different and difficult, you start at the bottom. It helped me to see that my game can match the best players, it gave me a lot of confidence. Now I need to continue working alongside the fantastic team I have around me. What did that victory mean in Bangkok last October?

So much. Especially in terms of belief in myself and respect in the world of golf. I felt that it was the first fruit, the first reward for that big effort over years by my family, team and people who believed in me from the start. It was really special.

The arrival of LIV in Sotogrande is a top-quality strategic movement for the visibility of golf in Spain. Does the future of professional golf depend on LIV/ For me yes, LIV is doing things really well. Really important players are going to come to Spain, which hadn’t happened for over 20 years, since the last World Championship in Valderrama. Having the chance to see Koepka, Mickelson, DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, and Sergio García, would be impossible without LIV. It is a new product that is very appealing, popular and its competition formats make it very interesting. Did you know Valderrama beyond its legend?

Yes, of course. I am lucky that my agent [Gonzalo], spends summer here and I have been able to enjoy it and play it several times. It is a special course, for me it is the Augusta of Europe. I am really looking forward to playing a tournament at Valderrama. What other benchmarks do you have in Sotogrande?

It is a unique place. A magnificent destination to be in with family, for holidays and of course, for enjoying golf. I have had the chance to play a lot at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and at La Hacienda, at the magnificent Links course, among other courses in the area, as well as Valderrama I can especially see myself perfectly preparing the pre-season in Sotogrande and in the future, with my family, enjoying such an environment. I am delighted to come here to compete.

What prophecy and anecdotes do you have with Seve?

The family of my father is Cantabrian, and we had a lot of relations between both families in my childhood. I was lucky to meet him as a child and I told him that I

Banalizado, minusvalorado e incluso estigmatizado debido al desconocimiento el golf en España es reconocido a nivel europeo y mundial, tras un esfuerzo continuo. Es un tipo de turismo muy interesante, ya que está desestacionalizado y su temporada alta es en primavera y otoño. Sin duda es un gran generador de empleo, ya que el golfista, juega, come, duerme, visita lugares, disfruta en la zona, crea oportunidades de negocio, hace networking, etc.. El golf es un deporte social por naturaleza, no solamente por el contacto en el campo y en la casa club, sino también por las interacciones que se dan en la red. Hoy en día, casi la mitad de los golfistas usa sus redes sociales a diario. Estas interacciones online tratan temas como las vacaciones de golf, las instalaciones deportivas y consejos para entrenar, principalmente.

Según el estudio que ha realizado la National Golf Foundation en los últimos años para tratar de determinar hasta qué punto los golfistas participan en el mundo on-line. Una de las áreas clave que analizaron han sido las redes sociales y por no decir menos, los resultados fueron sorprendentes. Golf y las redes sociales. Ellos defin en «los golfistas nativos» como el grupo que juega el 85% de todas las rondas, y son responsables de más del 85% de todos los ingresos en la industria del golf. Como se pueden imaginar, este grupo es bastante conservador y ni mucho menos el tipo de personas que se pueda esperar que sean muy activos en el mundo de las redes sociales. Pues bien, resulta que todo lo contrario es cierto, que están muy comprometidos con las redes sociales y son un grupo muy activo. De hecho, están más comprometidos con las redes sociales y el contenido generado por el usuario que la población en general.

Las estadísticas son esclarecedoras:

• 60% de los golfistas nativos mantienen un perfil en al menos una red social.

• 3,7 millones de golfistas nativos leen regularmente blogs sobre marcas, cursos, viajes y golf profesional.

• 6,9 millones de jugadores nativos visitan su red social primaria al menos una vez por semana.

• 3,9 millones de jugadores nativos visitan su red social primaria todos los días.

Cifras que año tras año están creciendo y suponen una oportunidad para todos aquellos enamorados del golf, así como todas las administraciones que tengan claro que desean generar más empleo.

Se presenta el 20º Campus de Fútbol

Las instalaciones y oficinas de Caixabank en Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro acogieron la presentación oficial del 20º Campus de Fútbol Adolfo Aldana, que se lleva a cabo a principios del mes de julio, con un nuevo éxito y aforo completo de inscripciones. En el evento acompañaron a los impulsores de esta longeva y referencial propuesta deportiva, representantes políticos y sociales de diferentes municipios de todo el arco malagueño y gaditano, con presencia en el campus de fútbol.

También, contó con un papel protagonista la figura de La Fundación de “La Caixa” que un año más colabora con el campus facilitando un total de 53 becas para jóvenes con familias vulnerables y con menos posibilidades.

The facilities and offices of Caixabank in Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro hosted the official presentation of the 20th Adolfo Aldana Football Camp, which takes place at the beginning of July, with a new success and full capacity of registrations.

In the event, the promoters of this long-lived and referential sporting proposal were accompanied by political and social representatives from different municipalities from all over Malaga and Cadiz, with a presence in the football campus.

The “La Caixa” Foundation also played a leading role, once again collaborating with the campus by providing a total of 53 scholarships for young people from vulnerable families and those with fewer possibilities.

To mark the occasion, gifts were presented to both the “La Caixa” Foundation and El Periódico de Sotogrande for their collaboration over the years.

Con motivo de la ocasión, se entregaron sendos regalos por su colaboración estos años tanto a La Fundación de “La Caixa” como a El Periódico de Sotogrande.

Una de las fechas más esperadas por los vecinos del Valle del Guadiaro. El tradicional Torneo de Golf Feria de Guadiaro, en el Club de Golf La Cañada, congrega como cada año a más de 300 personas en su cena de gala, colofón a una gran jornada golfística en el trazado guadiareño. Como cada año, colaobra con el torneo El Periódico de Sotogrande.

Traslaprueba,comosiempre,los asistentes disfrutaron de un fantástico cóctel en uno de los salones de eventos de SO/ Sotogrande,comosiempre,convinos de Marqués de Riscal y con un fantástico ejemplar cortesía de JamonesPopi,ademásdelexquisito menú.

En el apartado deportivo, los premios especiales fueron para : Pedro Antonio Corral (Bola más

cercana indistinta), Stephen Bruinsteiner (Drive más largo caballeros) y Elizaveta Ordzhounikidze (Drive más largo en Damas). En la Cat. Damas, la victoria fue para Amelia Do Nascimiento, seguida de Lulu Pouroulis y Marie Serroels; mientras que en Segunda Cat. Caballeros el triunfo fue para Francisco Carneros, seguido de Macelo Cabrera y Rory England. En la Primera Cat. Caballeros la victoria fue Karl-Heinz Elschnes.

Almenara Golf, irreplacable event for Circuito de Golf Sotogrande

Home is a place where you always feel right at home. Each year, Almenara Golf is an essential stop on the events calendar of Sotogrande Golf Circuit and of course, the tenth edition simply had to include an irreplacable event like Almenara Golf – SO/ Sotogrande.

Almost one hundred players enjoyed a day in great style at the always competitive and appealing Pinos and Alcornoques courses at Almenara Golf. The participants, as is customary at this edition,

received a fantastic Welcome Pack, courtests of El Corte Inglés Supermarkets in Sotogrande. Otherwise, lots of golf and the best atmosphere.

After the event, as always, those attending enjoyed a fantastic cocktail in one of the events lounges at SO/ Sotogrande, as always, with Marqués de Riscal wines and a fantastic ham courtesy of Jamones Popi, as well as the exquisite menu.

As for the sport, the special prizes went to: Pedro Antonio Corral (Closest ball) Stephen

Bruinsteiner (Men’s longest drive) and Elizaveta Ordzhounikidze (Women’s longest drive). In the Women’s Category, victory went to Amelia Do Nascimiento, followed by Lulu Pouroulis and Marie Serroels; while in the Men’s Second Category, victory went to Francisco Carneros, followed by Macelo Cabrera and Rory England. In the Men´s First Category victory went to Karl-Heinz Elschnes.
