Once años de espera y más provincia
En esta edición de El Periódico de Sotogrande, una tan especial por llevar en su interior un cuadernillo en especial sin precedentes en la zona sobre la celebración del LIV Golf Andalucía 2023 en Real Club Valderrama, un par de reportajes muy interesantes y a los que debería echar cuentas y unir cabos.

Por un lado, rescatamos una de las demandas más importantes de los últimos años en el entorno, como es la modificación y adaptación a una salida más coherente y acorde con el destino y tránsito de vehículos (especialmente en temporada alta), hacia Torreguadiaro y el Puerto de Sotogrande desde la A-7. Si se fija bien, esta historia comenzó hace más de once años, con los primeros planes y proyectos.
Es obvio que una infraestructura de considerable inversión y repercusión, no es algo que se desarrolla en meses o incluso, años, pero ya hemos sobrepasado la década y seguimos sin conocer planes reales. Este verano, volverán los colapsos, los atascos, los conos con sentido único (perjudicando a los negocios de la vía de servicio) y los problemas. Mejor ni recordar el concierto de Manuel Carrasco el pasado verano.
La realidad es que continuamos, en pleno 2024, con este tipo de conexiones e infraestructuras que no mejoran, como sí ocurre en otros destinos, en otras provincias y especialmente, en otras comunidades autónomas con gobiernos de otro signo.
Eleven years of waiting and more province
In this edition of El Periódico de Sotogrande, a very special one as it contains a special notebook, unprecedented in the area, on the celebration of LIV Golf Andalucía 2023 at Real Club Valderrama, a few very interesting reports which we should pay attention to and tie up the loose ends.
On one hand, we have brought back one of the most significant demands in the area in recent years, the modification and adaptation to an exit that is more consistent with and fitting for the destination and vehicle traffic (especially in the peak season), towards Torreguadiaro and Puerto de Sotogrande from the A-7. En la entrevista con la presidenta de la Diputación de Cádiz, la regidora habla de cohesión, de inversión y de dirigir hacia una misma dirección; incluso menciona ese tren del litoral que conecte Costal del Sol y la Comarca, hasta Algeciras. Todo suena de dulce pero de nuevo, otro verano más, habrá que hacer cola si queremos ir tanto a Málaga, como a Cádiz. Y en mitad del sándwich, como siempre, el Campo de Gibraltar, el más perjudicado de todos.
The reality is that we continue, in the midst of 2024, with these types of connections and infrastructures that have not improved, as they have done in other destinations, in other provinces and especially, in other autonomous communities with governments under different political colours.
In the interview with the president of the Council of Cádiz, the leader talks about co-hesion, investment and heading in the same direction; she even mentions the coast-line train to connect the Costal del Sol and the Province, going to Algeciras. Everything sounds nice but once again this summer it will be necessary to queue if we want to go to Malaga or Cádiz. And in the middle of the sandwich, as always we find Campo de Gibraltar, which is the most harmed area of all.

Cerca de la mesita de noche, por si preciso consultar algo como si no hubieran pasado 500 años, me gusta ubicar mi edición de Don Quijote de la Mancha. Parece casi algo de extraterrestres que cinco siglos después podamos acudir a la ‘masterpiece’ de Cervantes y extraer algo nuevo, una enseñanza que nos ayude a empatizar y comprender cualquier situación. Una de mis frases favoritas es aquella de: “Sábete, Sancho, que no es un hombre más que otro, si no hace más que otro”. Valdría para tantas cosas…, le invito a que vuelva a leerla. Sotogrande es un destino único en el mundo, no porque lo digamos nosotros hasta la saciedad, ni mucho menos [que lo repetimos habitualmente]. Sobre sí mismo lo dicen casi todas las ciudades y pueblos del mundo. Sotogrande es diferente y único porque consigue hacer realidad cosas que ningún otro y eso lo convierte en especial, diferente y singular. Y en toda esta historia de hitos, superación y referencia surge un nombre unido al de Sotogrande, como no podía ser otro: Real Club Valderrama, una continua búsqueda de la excelencia y de retos conseguidos con el mas alto nivel. Valderrama tiene una licenciatura en lograr realidades desde imposibles.
Consiguió ser la primera sede de la Ryder Cup [1997] en Europa, fuera de las islas británicas; se posicionó con Campeonatos del Mundo y grandes torneos como uno de los campos más importantes y de las sedes más excelsas del calendario internacional y por supuesto, nuevamente como pionera, Valderrama se convirtió en la primera prueba en Europa continental de LIV Golf, con su estreno el pasado junio de 2023.
En ese camino incesante hacia la excelencia, Real Club Valderrama sigue siendo un símbolo y un icono; no ya en el plano deportivo [que también], sino en toda la parcela de la innovación en el mantenimiento de un campo de golf al máximo nivel con las mayores iniciativas en sostenibilidad, ahorro de agua y prácticas de respeto al medio. Como también es un ejemplo como entidad deportiva y club de socios, en cuanto a gerencia y gestión con numerosos certificados y galardones al respecto. Por ser, es hasta bonito. Close to my bedside table, in case I need to consult something as if 500 years had not passed, I like to place my edition of Don Quixote de la Mancha. It seems almost out of this world that five centuries have passed since we have been able to turn to this masterpiece by Cervantes and get something new from it, a lesson that helps us to empathise and understand any situation. One of my favourite lines is the one that says: “Bear in mind, Sancho, that one man is no more than another, unless he does more than another.”
It could apply to so many things...I invite you to read it again.

Más de un año sin noticias del proyecto para la entrada de Torreguadiaro
• Y en total, más de 11 años a la espera de un proyecto global, desde la remodelación de 2013, del que sólo se ha ejecutado un plan de asfaltado en 2018.,En mayo de 2023, después de años de reclamaciones, el Ministerio de Transportes anunció la redacción de un nuevo proyecto para conectar la A-7 y Torreguadiaro, en la actualidad, todo parece permanecer igual.
Continúan las reclamaciones, las peticiones y los problemas, que se generarán nuevamente una vez comiencen las masivas llegadas de residentes y turistas a la zona costera del Valle del Guadiaro y las aglomeraciones y colas en la salida de la A-7 en dirección a Torreguadiaro. Una cuestión cíclica y reclamada en numerosas ocasiones, muchas de ellas por este medio [El Periódico de Sotogrande], en la que reclamar una actuación que conecte de manera adecuada la salida hacia Torreguadiaro y Málaga, entre la A-7 y la AP-7. Entre medias, una millonaria inversión con el cambio de kilometraje y cartelería de Algeciras a Cataluña, final de la vía, el pasado curso. La realidad es que hace poco más de un año, concretamente en mayo de 2023, se anunció a bombo y platillo que el Ministerio de Transportes formalizó al redacción del proyecto de remodelación del enlace entre A-7 y AP-7 en Torreguadiaro, por valor de 528.990 euros.
El objeto de esta actuación, cuyo presupuesto estimado es de 13 millones de euros (IVA incluido), es modificar el enlace existente en el kilómetro 133,700 de la A-7 para mejorar su funcionalidad,
estableciendo una conexión directa entre el tramo de la autovía A-7 procedente de Algeciras con el tramo de la carretera multicarril A-7 que continúa hacia Málaga, eliminando la necesidad de paso por las glorietas existentes y viales del enlace de Torreguadiaro de la AP-7.
Pero la realidad es que, a día de hoy, sólo se ha aplicado en la zona un asfaltado del tramo y fue hace nada menos, que hace seis años. Por aquel entonces, La Demarcación de Carreteras de Cádiz realizó una actuación en la zona de Torreguadiaro, colindante a la gasolinera Montilla, zona en la que sin embargo aún se esperan los permisos para poder realizar una actuación de re-
habilitación en las vías de servicio. En concreto, unos trabajos de asfaltado en los cuatro carriles de esta vía, actuación que potencia la mejor seguridad para los vehículos que transitan por esta zona, de entrada al municipio y al Campo de Gibraltar desde la Costa del Sol. Ya en aquella época,e l primer edil sanroqueño, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, recordaba que “son ya 4 los años en los que esperamos que la Demarcación de Carreteras de Andalucía apruebe de forma definitiva el proyecto para mejorar la via de servicio, para convertir esta zona en urbana, con acerado, y mejorando la primera imagen que tienen los turistas cuando llegan a nuestro munici-
pio”.
Y se explicaba que el proyecto contaba con financiación propia, ya que de los costes se hará cargo Cepsa Comercial, merced al acuerdo firmado en su momento y aprobado en pleno, pero que necesita de la aprobación de la Demarcación de Carreteras, pues la zona aún no es de competencia municipal. El acuerdo, que data del año 2013, recoge que esta obra supondrá la adecuación tanto de la vía de servicio situada en la zona de la misma gasolinera como de la que se encuentra frente a la misma, donde se ubica la frutería. Esta adecuación convertirá ambas vías en urbanas y municipales, lo que dará mayor seguridad a los pea-
tones y mejorará la imagen del acceso (norte) al término municipal.
En virtud del convenio, Cepsa Comercial Petróleo acometerá las obras de ordenación de las calzadas secundarias de la A7 a lo largo de unos 300 metros, lo que supondrá su transformación en vías urbanas distribuidoras del tráfico local. Se dotarán de calzada y aceras y se ejecutará una nueva barrera de separación entre las mismas y el vial principal. También se mejorarán las instalaciones y redes de servicio y se ejecutará una nueva red de alumbrado en la totalidad del tramo. Cepsa Comercial Petróleo se encargará también del mantenimiento de los nuevos viales.
Demands, requests and problems continue, and they will arise again once again the mass arrivals begin of residents and tourists to the coastal area of Valle del Guadiaro and the crowds and queues at the exit of the A-7 heading towards Torreguadiaro. A recurrent matter and one that is often called out, often through this media outlet (El Periódico de Sotogrande), in order to call for action that provides a suitable connection for the exit towards Torreguadiaro and Malaga, between the A-7 and the AP-7. In between, an investment of millions with the kilometre marker and sign change from Algeciras to Catalonia, the end of the road, last year.
The reality is that a little over a year ago, specifically in May 2023, it was announced with great fanfare that the Ministry of Transport had formalised the drafting of the project to remodel the connection between the A-7 and AP-7 in Torreguadiaro, for a value of 528,990 Euros.
The purpose of this action, whose estimated budget is 13 million Euros (including VAT), is to modify the existing connection at kilometre 133.700 of the A-7 in order to improve its functionality, establishing a direct connection between the stretch of the A-7 road from Algeciras with the stretch of the multi-lane A-7 road that continues towards Malaga, eliminating the need to go through the existing roundabouts and roads connecting Torreguadiaro on the AP-7. However, the reality is that, at present, only one stretch has of surfacing has been applied, and it was no less than six years ago. Back then, the Road Department in Cadiz carried out an action in the Torreguadiaro area, next to the Montilla petrol station, an area in which permits are still being waited for in order to carry out restoration work on the service roads. Specifically, surfacing work on the four lanes of this road, an action that improves road safety for vehicles travelling in this area, entering the municipality and Campo de Gibraltar from the Costa del Sol.
Back at that time, the mayor of San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, recalled that “we have now been waiting for 4 years for the Roads Department of Andalusia to definitively approve the project to improve the service road, in order to make this zone an urban area, with pacing, and improving the first impression that tourists have when they come to our municipality”.
And it was explained that the project had its own funding, as the costs will be borne by Cepsa Comercial, thanks to
the agreement signed at the time and approved in the plenary, but which needs approval from the Roads Department, as the area is still not a municipal competency. The agreement, dating to 2013, outlines that this work will entail improving both the service road located in the area of the
petrol station as well as the one located in front of it, where the greengrocer is located. This improvement will make both roads urban and municipal roads, which will offer better safety to pedestrians and will improve the image of the entrance (north) to the municipality.
Under the agreement, Cepsa Comercial Petróleo will undertake the works to organise the secondary roads of the A-7 over 300 metres, which will result in them being transformed into urban roads that distribute local traffic. They will be surfaced and given pavements
and a new barrier will be created to separate them and the main road. Facilities and service networks will also be improved and a new lighting network will be created on the entire stretch. Cepsa Comercial Petróleo will also be responsible for maintenance of the new roads.

“La provincia de Cádiz es un destino único para vivir e invertir” Entrevista con Almudena Martínez del Junco
• El Periódico de Sotogrande se sienta con la presidenta de la Diputación de Cádiz para dar a conocer un poco más su más que atractivo proyecto político para la zona como destino estratégico, sostenible y vinculado a un turismo de calidad.
Encantado de tenerle en nuestras páginas, presidenta. Y además lo hace cuando acaricia su primer aniversario en el cargo. ¿Qué valoración hace de estos primeros 12 meses? ¿Qué encontró y qué nuevo rumbo trata de impulsar?
Puedo hacer un balance muy positivo de este primer año, tras mucho trabajo, más del que se ve a simple vista. He conseguido el objetivo de estar presente en todos los municipios, aunar e integrar esa cohesión provincial. Todo ello, basado en el diálogo y la cercanía, conocer sobre el terreno qué ocurre, con un contacto directo y constante con los alcaldes. Eso se ve en nuestra hoja de ruta, con la celebración de dos consejos de alcaldes, estar muy atentos y sobre el terreno de los principales problemas, como el empleo. Que por cierto, los planes puestos en marcha hasta el momento, un éxito.
¿Cómo se trabaja en beneficio de 45 municipios y 10 ELA? ¿Cuesta transmitir al ciudadano el papel fundamental de la Diputación como institución?
La Diputación es fundamental en los municipios de menos de 20.000 habitantes, eso es evidente, pero igualmente en las grandes ciudades porque son los motores dinamizadores de la economía. En pequeños municipios hay un trabajo y acción más directa, a través de los técnicos, pero en grandes ciudades el trabajo es diferente y trabajamos en defender ese papel institucional. Además, estamos en un año muy especial, con el bicentenario de la creación de las diputaciones. Algo para estar orgullosos, somos pioneros y originales.
Ahora le leen y atienden los gaditanos ubicados más al extremo
de la provincia, ¿cómo salvaguardar esas distancias en un papel integrador?
El Campo de Gibraltar es esencial para Cádiz, un motor principal de la provincia. Lo visito continuamente y no me canso de reivindicar su papel estratégico en numerosos sectores (energético, industrial, economía azul, logística, etc.) y cuenta con la Diputación como principal aliado. ¿El problema? Las infraestructuras y las comunicaciones. Trabajamos codo con codo con la Diputación de Málaga, ambas provincias están estrechamente interconectadas, y hace poco reivindicábamos el papel de ese Tren del litoral que conecta la Costa del Sol con Algeciras, un proyecto que ayudará facilitar la vida de los ciudadanos. Que para ir en tren de Cádiz a Algeciras, haya que pasar por tres provincias, es algo tercermundista. A ello le sumamos la saturación de las vías de la Costa del Sol o el desdoble de la N-340. Proyectos y mejoras que sí evolucionan en otros destinos pero aquí, en Andalucía, se marchitan.
¿Y las singularidades del Campo de Gibraltar? ¿Acuerdo Brexit? Nos preocupa enormemente todo lo relacionado con Gibraltar y el Brexit, son muchos los temas que influyen a esta situación: trabajadores, régimen fiscal, aeropuerto, territorio ‘Schengen’, etc. En mayo acudí al Ministerio de Exteriores, para una reunión junto a los alcaldes campogibraltareños y el consejero de Presidencia de la Junta [Antonio Sanz] y conocimos pocos detalles más que lo que pueda leer cualquiera en prensa, caso parecido a la reunión celebrara en Algeciras. Sólo esperamos que se defiendan los intereses de la provincia porque eso tendrá un beneficio global.
En Sotogrande, vemos la huella de la Diputación en numerosas acciones. ¿El apoyo a iniciativas turísticas y deportivas es clave? Es uno de los grandes motores dinamizadores de la economía y generación de empleo… El turismo de Cádiz no es de cantidad, es de calidad; y eso tenemos que mostrarlo y “vender”. La provincia es única, disponemos del mejor clima e infraestructuras para ello, hemos conseguido que el gasto medio del turista haya ascendido, incrementando ese valor diferencial de calidad. Somos el destino predilecto a nivel nacional e internacional. Ahora estamos muy centrados también en la sostenibilidad de ese turismo. ¿Y respecto a Sotogrande? Es esencial para ese concepto de turismo de calidad, debemos aprovechar las grandes oportunidades que brindan sus eventos internacionales para mostrar la riqueza de la provincia como destino. Estamos
presentes en muchas de estas citas y ahora también estamos trabajando en la diversificación, conectividad y desestacionalización del turismo (incluye grandes eventos deportivos y culturales todo el año).
¿Cómo unir en un mismo propósito al a la provincia?
Diálogo y cercanía. Lo llevo haciendo desde el inicio del mandato y es mi objetivo principal, la cohesión y trabajar en una misma dirección para el beneficio de todos los gaditanos; sin intereses partidistas.
¿Cuál es la mayor fortaleza de Cádiz?
Tenemos unos sectores estratégicos únicos para exportar, crecer y buscar inversión. Tradicionalmente la provincia ha estado muy volcada y centrada en PYMES cuando es un destino selecto para atraer inversión de gran calado y rele-
vancia. Somos la primera provincia en exportación de Andalucía, otro síntoma del enorme potencial que tenemos y somos una referencia en deportes y grandes eventos (motos, vela, golf, polo, etc.); un escaparate a nivel mundial. Queda trabajo por delante, lógicamente, pero tenemos la suerte de vivir en un lugar extraordinario. Hay una frase que me gusta repetir mucho: Cádiz es una provincia para invertir y vivir.
¿Y debilidad o reto a afrontar? Los mismo pero a la inversa. Construir por nosotros mismos nuestro futuro, con espacios para la inversión y el desarrollo empresarial y turístico, sin tener que depender tanto de la situación exterior o que venga dinero de fuera.

• El Periódico de Sotogrande sat down with the president of the Council of Cadiz to find out a little more about her very appealing political project for the area as a strategic, sustainable destination linked to quality tourism.
It is a pleasure to feature you in our pages, president. And you are doing so within touching distance of your first anniversary in the role. What is your assessment of these first 12 months? What did you find and what new direction are you trying to encourage?
I can give a very positive assessment of this first year, after a lot of work, more than you can see at first sight. I have achieved the goal of having a presence in all the municipalities, bringing together and integrating that provincial cohesion. All based on dialogue and closeness, finding out what is happening on the ground, with direct and constant contact with the mayors. That is apparent in our roadmap, with the celebration of two councils of mayors, being very attentive and aware of what is happening in places with the main problems, such as employment. And of course, the plans launched so far have been a success.
How do you work to assist 45 municipalities and 10 autonomous local entities? Is it difficult to convey the essential role of the Council as an institution to citizens?
The Council is essential in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, that is clear, but also in big cities, because they are the driving forces behind the economy. In small municipalities, there is more direct work and action,
through the technicians, but in big cities the work is different and we work to defend that institutional role. Also, we are in a very special year, with the bicentenary of the creation of the councils. It is something to be proud of, we are pioneers and original.
Now, the citizens of Cadiz located most at the tip of the province are reading and taking note of you, how do you safeguard those distances in an integrative role?
Campo de Gibraltar is essential for Cádiz, a key driving force for the province. I visit it continuously and never tire of asserting its strategic role in several sectors (naval, energy, industrial, blue economy, logistics, etc.) and it has the Council as its main ally. The problem? Infrastructures and communications. We work side by side with the Council of Malaga, both provinces are closely interconnected, and recently we asserted the role of that coastal Train connecting the Costa del Sol to Algeciras, a project that will help to make life easier for citizens. The fact that, to go by train from Cádiz to Algeciras, it is necessary to pass through three provinces, it is like something from the non-developed world. In addition to that there is the overcrowding of the roads of the Costa del Sol and the reorganisation of the N-340. Projects and improvements that are progressing in other destinations but here, in
Andalusia, they are languishing.
And what about the unique features of Campo de Gibraltar? The Brexit Agreement? We are enormously worried by everything relating to Gibraltar and Brexit, there are many issues influencing this situation: workers, the tax regime, the airport, the Schengen area, etc. In May, I went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for a meeting alongside the mayors of Campo de Gibraltar and the Counsellor of the Regional Government of Andalusia (Antonio Sanz) and we learned little more than what anyone can read in the press, and it was a similar case in the meeting held in Algeciras. We only hope that the interests of the province will be defended and that this will have an overall benefit.
In Sotogrande, we see the impact on the Council in several actions. Is support for tourist and sporting initiatives essential? It is one of the great driving forces that is a catalyst for the economy and job creation... Tourism in Cádiz is not about quantity, it is about quality; and we have to show that and “sell it”. The province is unique, we have the best climate and infrastructures for it, we have managed to increase the average prince and tourism spending, increasing that distinctive value of quality. We are the preferred
destination nationally and internationally. Now, we are also very focused on the sustainability of that tourism. And with regard to Sotogrande? For that concept of quality tourism, it is essential that harness the great opportunities offered by international events in order to showcase the wealth of the province as a destination. We are present in many of these events, and now we are also supporting diversification and being less dependent on seasons, with proposals such as music festivals, which are really on the rise in the province.
How is it possible to unite the province behind a single purpose?
Dialogue and closeness. I have been doing so since the start of the mandate and that is my main objective, cohesion and working in the same direction for the benefit of all the people of Cadiz, without party political interests.
What is the greatest strength of Cádiz?
We have unique strategic sectors in order to export, grow and seek investment. Traditionally, the province has been really behind and focused on SME’s when it is a select destination in order to attract significant and important investment. We are the leading province for exports in Andalusia, another symptom of the enormous potential that we have and we are a benchmark for sports and major events (motorbike racing, sailing, golf, polo, etc.); a global showcase. Logically, there is work ahead, but we are lucky to live in an extraordinary place. There is a phrase that I really like to repeat: Cadiz is a province to invest in and live in.
And a weakness or challenge to tackle?
The same but the other way round. Building our future for ourselves, with spaces for investment and business and tourist development, without having to depend so much on the foreign situation or on getting money from elsewhere.
El Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible ha adjudicado por 669.035,14 euros (IVA incluido) un contrato para redactar el estudio informativo
de la variante exterior de Algeciras, en la provincia de Cádiz. La variante tendrá una longitud de 10 km, estará ubicada entre el km 100 de la carretera
N-340 y el km 87 de la autovía A-381 y cuenta con un presupuesto estimado de obras de 140 millones de euros (IVA incluido).
El objetivo es mejorar funcionalidad de las carreteras, captando el tráfico de largo recorrido de la N-340 y de la A-7 para separarlo del tráfico ur-
bano de Algeciras, reforzando la seguridad vial y las condiciones de circulación. No en vano, la autovía A-7 a su paso por Algeciras tiene un marcado carácter periurbano o netamente urbano, incluso con intersecciones reguladas por semáforos, con edificaciones colindantes con la carretera que dificultan cualquier tipo de actuación de mejora o incremento de capacidad de sus dos carriles por sentido.
Soporta un tráfico medio diario (IMD) de hasta 72.300 vehículos, lo que implica que la demanda excede la capacidad de la infraestructura en muchos momentos del día, siendo frecuentes las retenciones. Por otra parte, la mezcla de tráficos locales elevados con los de largo recorrido, el gran número de accesos, la existencia de intersecciones semaforizadas que interrumpen el flujo, etc. crean una situación donde son frecuentes los accidentes por alcance de vehículos.
Descripción de las obras El objeto de este estudio es recopilar y analizar los datos necesarios para definir, con el grado de detalle exigible a un estudio informativo, las diferentes alternativas viables para implantar una variante de trazado de la autovía A-7 en la población de Algeciras.
La variante exterior de Algeciras requerirá la construcción de 3 nudos, cuya tipología deberá estudiarse teniendo en cuenta los condicionantes existentes, en particular el tráfico previsible, la distancia con otros enlaces y el medio ambiente:
• Nudo de conexión con la N-340 en torno al km 100 de la esta carretera.
• Nudo Algeciras Centro (aproximadamente en torno a la mitad del trazado).
• Enlace Algeciras Norte (km 87 de la autovía A-381). En este enlace se deben analizar las distancias funcionales con los enlaces adyacentes en la carretera A-381.
Es previsible que la variante necesite nuevos viaductos en la zona de El Guijo – Las Herrizas, en el río de La Miel-El Cobre, en la Rejanosa y en el río Palmones, además de las estructuras necesarias para materializar los enlaces con otras carreteras y autovías.
Serán necesarios, a su vez, pasos a distinto nivel para garantizar la permeabilidad de la red de caminos y carreteras locales cuya continuidad se vea interferida por la presencia de la nueva infraestructura lineal. Podría ser necesario plantear también falsos túneles en las zonas de los cerros de La Rejanosa y cerro de la Menacha, para facilitar la integración de
Ministry of Transport awards 669,035 Euros
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded for 669,035.14 Euros (including VAT) a contract to draw up an information study on the outer variant of Algeciras, in the province of Cádiz. The variant will be 10 km long, it will be located between km 100 of the road N-340 and km 87 of the road A-381 and it has estimated construction budget of 140 million Euros (including VAT).
The aim is to improve the functionality of the roads, attracting the long-distance traffic of the N-340 and of the A-7 in order to separate it from the urban traffic of Algeciras, strengthening road safety and traffic conditions.
Not without good reason, the A-7 as it goes through Algeciras has a markedly peri-urban or purely urban character, even with intersections regulated with traffic lights, with buildings next to the road that hinder any kind of improvement work or increased capacity of its two lanes in each direction.
It withstands average daily traffic of up to 72,300 vehicles, which means that the demand surpasses the capacity of the infrastructure at many times of day, and stoppages are common. On the other hand, the mixture of high local traffic with long-distance traffic, the high number of entrances, the existence of intersections with traffic lights that interrupt the flow, etc. create a situation where accidents are common due to the extent of vehicles.
Description of works
The purpose of this study is to compile and analyse the data needed to define, with the level of detail required by an informative study, the different viable alternatives to implement a variant for the A-7 road in the city of Algeciras.
The outer variant of Algeciras will require the construction of 3 junctions, whose type will have to be studied, considering the existing constraints, in particular foreseeable traffic, the traffic with other connections and the environment:
• Junction with the N-340 around km 100 of this road.
• Centre of Algeciras junction (approximately around the middle of the road).
• North Algeciras connection (km 87 of the A-381 road). In this connection it is necessary to analyse the functional distances with the adjacent connections on road A-381.
It is foreseeable that the variant will require new overpasses in the area of El Guijo – Las Herrizas,
over the river of La Miel-El Cobre, in La Rejanosa and over the Palmones river, as well as the structures needed to create the connections with other roads and
motorways. In turn, it will be necessary to have crossings at different levels in order to guarantee the permeability of the network of local
paths and roads whose continuity could be disturbed by the presence of the new line infrastructure. It may be necessary to also consider cut-and-cover tun-
nels in the areas of the hills of La Rejanosa and the hill of La Menacha, in order to facilitate the integration of trenches of a significant height.

El Póker de ases españoles
LIV Golf cuenta con varios de los máximos exponentes del golf nacional entre su elenco de grandes jugadores, como Sergio García, Eugenio López Chacarra y David Puig. Un trío espléndido al que se le sumó al inicio de este curso, tras un acuerdo meteórico, Jon Rahm, gran exponente del golf mundial y mejor jugador del momento. Con él llegó también la fundación de su propio equipo para esta temporada: Legión XIII.
El curso, aunque sin victoria, no ha comenzado nada mal para los españoles. En el debut de la temporada, en Mayakoba, Sergio García acabó en segundo puesto tras ceder en el desempate y Jon Rahm completó el podio. Rahm también firmó un ‘Top ten’ tanto en Las
Vegas como en Jeddah; mientras que García repitió segunda posición en Miami y Rahm fue cuarto.
Chacarra va en progreso du rante la temporada, logrando un ‘Top 15’ en Hong Kong y en Singapore su primer ‘Top Ten’ del año.
Respecto a las últimas citas, Rahm volvió a finalizar en la tercera plaza en Adelaide; mientras que en la última prueba disputada, en Houston, David Puig estuvo muy cerca

Four Spanish aces
LIV Golf has several of the leading exponents of national golf among its line-up of great players such as Sergio García, Eugenio López Chacarra and David Puig. An amazing trio which was joined at the start of this year, following a meteoric agreement, by Jon Rahm, a great exponent of global golf and the best player of the moment. With him also came the founding of his own team for
this season: Legion XIII. The year, although without victory, has not started badly at all for the Spaniards. At the start of the season, in Mayakoba, Sergio García finished in second place after losing the playoff, and Jon Rahm completed the podium. Rahm also earned a ‘Top ten’ in both Las Vegas and in Jeddah; while García earned another second place in Miami and Rahm finished fourth.
Chacarra has progressed over the season, achieving a ‘Top 15’ in Hong Kong and his first ‘Top Ten’ of the year in Singapore.

events, Rahm once again finished third in Adelaide; while at the last event held, in Houston, David Puig came very close to taking victory, and finished third. Rahm also came close to individual victory in Naschville, he did achieve it in the teams category with Legión XIII.
Major stars in global golf
Among the other major players and hopefuls at Valderrama, we would especially highlight the recent winner of the US Open, Bryson DeChambeau; Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed, Ian Poulter, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka
and John Catlin, fellow winner at Valderrama (EDAM 2022).
It is also worth highlighting the presence of Martin Kaymer, one of the most faithful players to Valderrama and loved by local fans (last Christmas, alongside Álvaro Quirós, he took part in the Pro-Am, at La Cañada Golf School). As well as Adrian Meronk, the last winner of the EDAM 2023 at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and Talor Gooch, the big winner last year on LIV and the last winner of the 2023 event at Valderrama.

Muy buenas Javier, un placer contar una vez más contigo en nuestras páginas. Estamos a sólo unos días de volver a disfrutar en Valderrama de uno de los eventos deportivos más importantes del planeta, con varias estrellas del golf mundial. ¿LIV Golf no para de crecer?
Es evidente que hay mucho más conocimiento en el mundo del golf sobre el formato LIV del que había el pasado año, en el que todo era novedad. A estas alturas la competición está mucho más consolidada y la llegada de jugadores de la
mediático su fichaje fue una de las grandes noticias del golf de los últimos años. La realidad es que Jon aporta mucho valor, mucho espectáculo y estamos deseando verle lidiar con Valderrama. Ha quedado prácticamente ‘Top Ten’ en todos los torneos, pero no ha conseguido ganar, lo que supone una muestra del nivel de LIV; que un jugador así no haya conseguido aún una victoria.
En una entrevista en Exclusiva con Jon, para La Revista Sotogrande, nos adelantaba su deseo de que Valderrama vuelta a tener un campeón
Todos los españoles están en un gran momento, es una fantástica noticia. Me alegra mucho ver que Sergio está muy en forma, también David [Puig] y Eugenio. Jon conoce perfectamente el peso histórico de un campo como Valderrama y sé a ciencia cierta que le encantaría estar en uno de esos cuadros de la casa club como ganador de un torneo aquí.
LIV Golf Andalucía aterriza por segundo año en Valderrama, ¿qué valoración haces de la
primera experiencia en 2023? El primer año había muchas incertidumbres, era una gran novedad respecto a eventos anteriores, pero el ‘feedback’ fue muy positivo. La gente que acudió al torneo, incluidos nuestros socios, disfrutaron del espectáculo. Especialmente, disfrutaron de ver en vivo, en Valderrama, a un elenco de estrellas mundiales, algo que no ocurría desde hacía muchos años en España. A veces, con LIV, nos enredamos en otros temas y no apreciamos el valor que tiene disfrutar de 25/30 estrellas mundiales de este deporte. Eso es lo que emociona a la gente y lo que quieres encontrar en un gran espectáculo deportivo.
¿Novedades para este 2024? ¿Algún avance sobre montaje, espectáculos, espacios VIP? Varias pero no puedo desvelar aún muchas de ellas. Lo que sí te puedo decir es que la zona del hoyo 17 va a estar muy bien, hay algunas novedades que van a hacer disfrutar mucho al público, especialmente en este emblemático hoyo.

Va muy bien, bastante mejor que el pasado año. El efecto de Jon Rahm y Bryson Dechambeu ha influido enormemente y estoy convencido que será un gran fin de semana de golf para todos.
¿Cómo crees que se compor tará el campo en pleno mes de julio y previsiblemente, con altas temperaturas?
Nuestro equipo tiene muchí sima experiencia en este sen tido. Es cierto que es una fe cha atípica y tendremos que tener más precaución en algu nos aspectos de la prepara ción, pero estoy seguro de que el campo se presentará a un gran nivel y será todo un reto para los jugadores.
¿Es el impulso necesario para consolidar y fortalecer Soto grande como un destino único en el mundo del Golf?
Sotogrande como destino de golf, ha experimentado una explosión muy fuerte en los últimos tiempos. El nivel de campos de esta zona no es comparable a ningún otro punto de Europa, quizás los Links de Escocia pero tienen una temporada muy corta. ¿Qué ha ocurrido con Soto grande? Se ha creado un nú cleo super ‘prime’ de golf en el que golfistas de todo el mundo pueden disfrutar de buen tiempo en campos de calidad. Este evento permite dar más visibilidad al destino y consigue reforzar esa posi ción, no sólo para Valderrama, para todos.
Prueba de ello es que hemos aumentado considerablemente el flujo de golfistas que nos visitan desde un mercado tan potente como el de EEUU. Este tipo de cliente solo viaje a destinos muy prime y tiene la expectativa de jugar campos de gran calidad. Hay que po ner en valor el esfuerzo que han hecho todos los clubes por aumentar la calidad de los campos y del servicio a los clientes. Si todos seguimos apostando por la calidad, el potencial del destino es ilimi tado.
Imagino que es una semana muy especial también para el equipo…
Sin ninguna duda, todo el staff está con muchas granas. Hemos preparado muchos eventos así pero siempre despierta emoción y motivación para que todo luzca perfecto. Muchas gracias y deseando
saludarte durante la semana del torneo, ¿apuestas por algún ganador?
Prefiero no mojarme [bromea]. Sólo deseo que disfrutemos de unos días de muy buen golf y si gana un español, mejor, pero ojala den mucho espectáculo.

Hello Javier, it is a pleasure to have you appear in our pages again. We are a few days away from enjoying one of the world’s most important sports events at Valderrama once again, with several of the world’s golf stars. LIV Golf continues to grow, no?
It is clear that there is a lot more knowledge in the golf world about the LIV format than there was last year, where everything was new. At this stage, the competition is much more well-established and the arrival of players with the impact of Jon (Rahm), is helping to drive this innovative concept forward.
The competition formats continue to improve... The truth is that they are looking to attract a younger audience and who may not have been as involved with golf, it also allows you to reach a non-expert audience. There is a combination of factors that they are trying to innovate and increase interest while always preserving the essence that a tournament must have; great players competing on a great course for a prize. The different formats are looking to find a more appealing way to reach the audience and generate attention.
What does it mean for the circuit to add names such as Jon Rahm?
Jon is a major star, at a media level his signing was one of the big golfing stories in recent
years, although also expected. The fact is that Jon contributes a lot of value, he brings a spectacle and we look forward to watching him taking on Valderrama. He has practically been in the Top Ten at all tournaments but has not managed to win, which shows the level on the LIV Tour; that a player like that is yet to achieve a victory.
In an exclusive interview with Jon, for Sotogrande Magazine, he disclosed his wish to us for Valderrama to have ... a Spanish champion once again All the Spaniards are in great form, it is fantastic news. I am delighted to see that Sergio is in very good form playing, as is David (Puig). Jon is perfectly aware of the historic significance of a course like Valderrama and I am certain that he would love to be in one of those pictures as the winner of a tournament here.
LIV Golf Andalucía is coming to Valderrama for the second year, what is your assessment of the first experience in 2023?
The first year there was a lot of uncertainty, it was a big new development compared to other previous events but the feedback was very positive. The people who came to the tournament, including our members, had a great time. They especially enjoyed watching live, at Valderrama, something that hadn’t happened in many years in Spain. Sometimes, with LIV, we
get tangled up in other issues, and we appreciate the value of seeing 25/30 global stars of this sport at these tournaments. That is what excites people and what you want to find in a great sporting spectacle.
Any new developments for 2024? Any announcements about the set-up, shows, VIP spaces?
Several but I cannot yet reveal many of them. What I can tell you is that the area around hole 17 is going to look really good, there are some new developments that are going to really delight the public, especially at this iconic hole.
According to what we have learned, there will be a record number of ticket sales...
It is doing really well, quite a lot better than last year. The effect of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau has had an enormous influence and I am convin-
ced that it will be a great weekend of golf for everyone.
How do you think the course will perform in July and foreseeably, with high temperatures?
Our team has so much experience in this regard. It is true that it is an atypical date and we will need to have more caution in some respects but I am sure that the field will be at a high level and will be a challenge for the players.
Is it the boost needed to consolidate and strengthen Sotogrande as a unique global golf destination?
As a golfing destination, Sotogrande has experienced a major boom in recent times. The level of courses in this area is not comparable to any other place in Europe, perhaps the Links courses in Scotland but they have a very short season. What happened with Sotogrande? A super ‘prime’ golfing
hub has been created where golfers from all over the world can enjoy good weather on quality courses. This event gives more visibility to the destination and manages to reinforce that position, not only for Valderrama, but for everyone.
Proof of this is that we have considerably increased the flow of golfers visiting us from such a powerful market as the USA. This type of client only travels to very prime destinations and expects to play high quality courses. The effort made by all the clubs to increase the quality of the courses and the service provided to customers must be highlighted. If we all continue to focus on quality, the potential of the destination is unlimited.
I imagine that it is also a very special week for the team... Undoubtedly, all of the staff are really looking forward to it. We have prepared a lot of events like this but it always creates excitement and motivates us to ensure everything looks perfect.

“Ojalá pueda darle a Valderrama un nuevo campeón español”
Un placer saludarte Jon y tenerte en esta edición de La Revista Sotogrande ¿Cómo estánsiendotussensaciones en este aterrizaje en LIV Golf League?
Bueno… pues es diferente, es un cambio en la vida del deporte, pero no es la primera vez que he tenido que cambiar. Al final, creo que la vida es así y uno se adapta a lo que tiene que hacer y a las decisiones que toma; para ser sinceros, de momento estoy muy contento. Es cierto que es otro ambiente, obviamente diferente, jugar tres días y con ese componente de equipo que a mi me gusta mucho, une, y lo hace más competitivo. Es especial poder compartir durante una semana con alguien, sobre todo cuando se gana como equipo. Es muy especial poder compartir con un equipo entero, que es algo que hasta ahora tenía envidia de otros deportes.
¿Cómo gestionaste todo el revuelo que se formó cuando se supo de tu llegada a LIV y todo lo que ello generó en medios de
comunicación?
Creo que es más lo que se dice en redes sociales y los medios en general, que el resultado. Finalmente tomé la decisión más pensada y oportuna posible y estoy contento con el resultado. No me puedo preocupar en exceso de lo que dicen los demás, sino mi vida sería demasiada pesada y con mucho ruido.
¿Qué supone para ti enfrentarte nuevamente al desafío de un trazado como Real Club Valderrama?
Es increíble poder volver a Sotogrande y, especialmente, a Valderrma. Sí es cierto que es un campo muy complicado, y es una pena que en años anteriores he llegado quizás un poco cansado después del Open de España, al final del año, y después de una Ryder Cup. Eso me llevó también a tener que competir sin toda la energía del mundo en ocasiones anteriores, por eso mismo, tengo ganas de volver y que de verdad sea un torneo con gran calidad. Como aquellos años del Volvo Masters con los que crecí. Ahora Valde-
rrama vuelve a tener un gran torneo, con importantes jugadores, a la altura de lo que merece este club y habrá que jugar muy bien al golf para sacar algo. Ojalá que pueda darles un campeón español otra vez.
Técnica y tácticamente, LIV Golf es una competición dis-
tinta, con salida al tiro. ¿Cómoplanteastuestrategia dejuego?¿Teinfluyeelhoyo de partida o vas golpe a golpe?
Nunca he sido una persona que antes de salir a jugar estudie todos los escenarios posibles o planifique hacer esto aquí o allí. Me ha pasado muchas veces que he visuali-
zado qué pasaría o cómo jugaría tal o cual hoyo y luego han pasado mil cosas durante el juego que lo cambia. Intento dar lo mejor de mí en cada golpe y buscar la mayor ventaja para tratar de ganar birdies y seguir adelante. Todo es circunstancial en el golf y hay que aprovechar los momentos y las oportunidades, eso decide si ganas o no.
Háblanos un poco de tu equipo, Legión XIII. ¿Cómo nació la idea y el nombre? La historia es algo larga y no quiero dejar nada en el tintero. Básicamente, nace tras la Ryder Cup de Roma, comenzó a atraerme mucho todo la historia de los gladiadores. Su espíritu guerrero y de lucha me transmitió mucha fuerza y energía, me llevó a pensar en un equipo luchando juntos y como además íbamos a ser el equipo número 13, surgió el nombre de Legión XIII. Toda es historia me pareció tremenda. Por otro lado, hay un cómic que para mí era muy especial de niño, era Astérix y Obelix, ya sabe, en el pueblecito de la
Galia que era imposible de dominar por los romanos. Pues la legión que trataba e intentaba de conquistarlos una y otra vez, precisamente, era la Legión XIII, que además, según he podido saber, existió en la vida real y siempre fue muy fiel a Julio César como emperador. Nos pusimos a pensar en todas estas coincidencias y argumentos, y comprendimos que habíamos dado en el clavo, por eso nos gustó tanto.
¿Y qué me dice de la figura del León?
Todos saben que soy muy futbolero y aficionado al Athletic de Bilbao, a su afición se les conoce por el nombre de los leones. No es un logotipo oficial, ni nada de eso, pero quería seguir ese camino y que se nos llamase de ese modo. Este estilo del león y las letras conectan con mis raíces del País Vasco. Hicieron un gran trabajo para el escudo y la tipografía, estoy muy contento con el resultado y vamos a dar mucha guerra. Además, estamos de celebración con la victoria en la Copa del Rey.
¿Son los Juegos Olímpicos de París uno de tus grandes objetivos esta temporada?
¡Por favor, por supueto! Si no fuesen un objetivo, no los jugaría. Es una época del año [agosto] a la que me gustaría llegar algo más descansado de la temporada, obviamente, es muy importante para mí con un gran reto y responsabilidad poder representar a España y estar presente en París este agosto. Y claro, si hay suerte y es posible, conseguir la medalla de oro, ya que he tenido la oportunidad de representar a España en muchas categorías inferiores
y salir campeón, así que a ver si puedo hacerlo una vez más.
Sotogrande concentra en pocos kilómetros varios de los mejores campos del sur de Europa. En tu opinión, y estando en contacto con campos tan relevantes, ¿crees
que Sotogrande tiene esa proyección internacional como de golf de primer nivel?
Aún no he tenido ocasión de jugar en muchos más campos que Real Club Valderrama o en el Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, de niño, hace años.
Pero soy conocedor de que Sotogrande tiene grandes campos de primer nivel, como La Reserva o Finca Cortesín, también muy cerca de la urbanización. Lo único que le falta es tener un poco más de marketing para que el público de otros países quiera
ir, crecer un poco más en ese sentido en alta calidad. Y obviamente, disponer también de una hospitalidad a la altura. Pero claro que sí, tiene el potencia y la proyección para ser uno de los prinicipales destinos de golf mundiales.
JON RAHM Interview
“I hope to give Valderrama a new Spanish champion”
It is a pleasure to welcome you Jon and to have you in this edition of Sotogrande Magazine. How are you feeling about this arrival in the LIV Golf League?
Well...it is different, it is a change in the sporting life, but it isn’t the first time that I have had to change. Ultimately, I think that life is like that and you adapt to what needs to be done and to the decisions that you take; to be honest, I am very happy at the moment. It is obviously true that atmosphere is different. We play three days and the team component, which I really like, unites people and makes it more competitive. It is special to be able to share a week with someone, especially when you win as a team.
It is very special to be able to share [moments] with an entire team, which is something that I envied about other sports until now.
How did you manage all the commotion that was created when your LIV arrival was announced and everything it created in the media?
I think that it’s more a case of what people say on social media, and the media in general, than the result. Ultimately, I took the most carefully thought-out and appropriate decision possible and I am happy with it. I can’t worry too much about what others say, otherwise my life would be too tiresome and there would be a lot of background noise.
What does it mean for you to once again tackle the challenge of a course like Real Club Valderrama?
It is incredible to be able to return to Sotogrande and, especially, to Valderrama.
It is true that this is a very difficult course, and a shame that in previous years I have perhaps gone in a little tired after the Spanish Open, at the end of the year, and after a Ryder Cup. This meant I had to compete without a huge amount
of energy on previous occasions, which is why I’m looking forward to returning and hope that it is truly a tournament of great quality, like those editions of the Volvo Masters that I grew up with. Now Valderrama is once again staging a great tournament, with important players, at the level that this club deserves… it will be necessary to play really well to get something from it. I hope I can give you all another Spanish champion.
Technically and tactically, LIV Golf is a different competition, with a shotgun start. How are you approaching your game strategy? Does the starting hole influence you or do you go shot by shot?
I have never been someone who studies all possible scenarios or plans to do this here or there before going out to play. I have often visualised what would happen, or how I would play this hole or that one, and then a thousand things have happened
during the round that change it. I try to give my best on every shot and seek the greatest advantage to try to earn birdies and progress. Everything is circumstantial in golf and you have to seize moments and opportunities. That’s what decides whether you win or not.
Tell us a little about your team, Legion XIII. How did the idea and name arise?
The story is a little long and I don’t want to leave anything out.
Basically, it came after the Ryder Cup in Rome, when I started to get really interested in the history of the gladiators. Their fighting, warrior spirit conveyed a lot of strength and energy, it made me think about a team fighting together, and as we were also going to be the 13th team, the name Legion XIII arose.
All that history seemed incredible to me.
On the other hand, there is a comic that was very special to me as a child. Asterix and Obelix, you know the one? In the little town of Galia, it was impossible for the Romans to dominate them. Well, the legion that tried time and time again to conquer them was indeed Legion XIII! As far as I can tell, they existed in real life and were very loyal to Julius Caesar as emperor. We thought about all those coincidences and factors, and we realized that we had hit the nail on the head!
That is why we liked it so much.
And what about the image of the Lion?
Everyone knows that I am really into football and a fan of Athletic Bilbao, and its fans are known as the Lions. It isn’t an official logo, not at all, but I wanted to continue along that path and for my team to be called that name The style of the lion and the letters connect with my roots in the Basque Country. They did great work on the badge and font; I am really happy with the result and we’re really going to fight. Also, we’re in the mood to celebrate after Athletic’s victory in the Copa del Rey!
Are the Paris Olympic Games one of your great targets this season?

Within just a few kilometres Sotogrande brings together seve-
ral of the best courses in southern Europe. In your opinion, and as someone in contact with very important courses, do you believe that Sotogrande has that international project as a firstrate golf destination?
I have not yet had the chance to play on many courses other than
Real Club Valderrama or at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, as a child, years ago. However, I am aware that Sotogrande has some first-rate courses, such as La Reserva and Finca Cortesín, also very close to the resort. The only thing it needs is to have a little more marketing, so that people
from other countries want to come [and the area can] grow a little more in that direction of high quality. And obviously, to also have hospitality that matches the golf. But of course, it has the profile and the potential to be one of the world’s main golfing destinations.

The historic and emblematic club in the heart of Sotogrande, is one of the top benchmarks as an international sporting entity. The legendary venue of the 1997 Ryder Cup has several of the big names in global golf on its curriculum who have tasted glory on its 18 holes. Founded in 1985 thanks to the effort and work of Jaime Ortiz Patiño, who commissioned Robert Trent Jones Sr. with the remodelling of the old course of Las Aves and the neighbouring land, with the intention of turning the course into the best in continental Europe, Valderrama didn’t take long to make its debut as the host club of first-rate tournaments.
At present, Real Club Valderrama remains at the cutting-edge of the most elite professional competition and since 2023 it has hosted one of the LIV Golf League events, the new circuit with the top stars in current golf: Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Brayson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson, among many others.
At present, Valderrama has one of the highest standards of quality and impeccable management in terms of the environment, conservation and maintenance; it was the first golf course in Europe to obtain the Audubon certificate of excellence in 1995 one of the most select and rigorous distinctions that exist at this level and which it of course maintains, as well as the prestigious ISO 14001 environmental management certificate.
It is important to highlight the many improvements that Valderrama has carried out in recent years on water supply. As Javier Reviriego, the club’s director general explains, for some years it has had a “lake with a capacity of 55,000 cubic metres that enables us to collect rainwater and water from the drains of the course. Thus, with the supply of rainwater during winter we can deal with the warmest peaks in summer and thus reduce consumption.”
It is also worth highlighting that in many areas of the course, especially those that don’t enter play as they are under trees, “we decided to replace the grass with crushed cork oak bark, a material known as “mulch”, which enables considerable savings on water and maintenance products” states Reviriego. “Technically it works very well, it doesn’t break away from the aesthetic and natural landscape of the course and it has enabled us to get rid of almost 400 sprinklers on the course without affecting play at all. Another example of the options and alternatives we are working on in order to continue
raising the quality of the course and its maintenance while simultaneously optimise natural resources” adds Reviriego.
It is important to acknowledge that Valderrama is the most sustainable course in Spain for many
reasons. The maintenance machinery is equipped with GPS devices that monitor the courses and applications in order to optimise the routes used on a daily basis. This operation manages to reduce and limit the consumption
of fuel. Also, the fleet of machinery is being revamped with electric and hybrid devices, another measure targeted at reducing the use of fuels. Ultimately, the constant pursuit of excellence and maximum quality is a
long-distance race and not a sprint. For almost three decades Valderrama has been working and innovating to present sports and sustainable management which are a real benchmark in Europe.

Finca Cortesin elevates Solheim Cup legacy with renewal of LPGA and Ladies European Tour ambassadors
Finca Cortesin, the esteemed Andalucia resort and host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, has announced the renewal of its ambassadorial agreement with LPGA Tour professional Ana Pelaez Trivino, and Nuria Iturrioz, a four-time winner on the Ladies European Tour.

Aprovechando que, en estos días, tenemos la mirada puesta en el deporte, mencionaré un caso en que trabajé como coach con Jesús, amante del golf y jugador habitual, logrando resultados en sólo 2 sesiones individuales. La herramienta de mediación que apliqué para identificar y trascender sus bloqueos emocionales fueron los Atractores Motivacionales. Los Atractores sirven al profesional, -o a cualquiera que desee
gestionar y resolver una situación de conflicto desde la neutralidad-, para enfocar sus preguntas e ir ayudando a las personas en conflicto a ir dándole un sentido constructivo al problema. De esta manera, se logra transformar las emociones bloqueantes en otras que permiten fluir. Aprovechar una situación de conflicto para sanar heridas es algo valiosísimo que, sin embargo, sólo se logra con una ayuda profesional ade-
cuada. Uno mismo no puede reenfocar y transformar emociones cuando está mal. Por ejemplo, lo que me explicó Jesús el primer día fue que fallaba mucho jugando a golf. No tenía ganas de hablar de otras cosas ni, mucho menos, de sus emociones. Me contó que analizaba la técnica de su juego y, aparentemente, todo estaba bien. Sin embargo, cuando llagaba el momento de dar lo mejor en el campo, cometía
errores absurdos uno tras otro. Estaba empezando a pensar que la mala suerte le perseguía y que había perdido el toque. Le hice preguntas hasta hacerle sentir cómodo hablando de emociones, Así fue cómo por sí mismo, empezó a tomar conciencia de lo que le es- taba pasando realmente. Él fue quien hizo el trabajo. Yo se lo puse fácil. Hacer simple lo complejo, es lo que corresponde al profesional que aplica Atractores Motivaciona-

les. Jesús necesitaba ayuda para ver las cosas más sencillas y entenderse mejor. Empezamos a trabajar sobre lo que había tras el problema que sí veía. Me contó que su madre estaba enferma y que sentía culpa por pasar tiempo viajando de torneo en torneo en lugar de estar con ella y sus hermanas. Además, existía un conflicto no manifiesto con una hermana que, de no haberlo trabajado y sacado a la luz, hubiera ido a más con el tiempo. El Atractor predominante de Jesús aquí era el de Deber: “proteger y cuidar de sus dos hermanas en lugar de jugar a golf”. El sentimiento de culpa era el verdadero problema que empezamos a reenfocar a través de un análisis creativo orientando hacía el Atractor Éxito, que es el que trasciende a Deber. Le hice preguntas hasta que hablar del tema no le resultó doloroso sino útil para ponerle solución: cuidar de su madre y coordinarse con sus hermanas no tenía, necesariamente, qué impedirle practicar deporte. Debía aprender a organizarse y comunicar de nueva manera, nada más. Hicimos fácil lo difícil simplemente cambiando el enfoque. En la segunda sesión, ensayando maneras asertivas y comprensivas de comunicar a sus hermanas, Jesús logro preparar una conversación que le parecía dificilísima y que, sin embargo, fue muy bien. Cada hermano se hizo cargo de un aspecto importante y todos crecieron a través del proceso. Él se sintió por fin aliviado y libre de culpa notándolo enseguida en su manera de respirar, moverse y practicar su deporte favorito. Además, aprendió técnicas eficaces de relajación y creó una secuencia de afirmaciones propias del Atractor Integración. Anclar nuevas creencias a través de emociones de elevada vibración, es imprescindible para sostener buenos resultados en el tiempo. Gestionar una situación de cambio desde el amor y la generosidad y no desde la culpa y el miedo, marca una enorme diferencia y fue lo que se logró en el caso de Jesús.

Torneo Feria de Guadiaro, tradición y familia en La Cañada Golf
• El campo municipal acoge un año más la celebración de este tradicional torneo, previo a la celebración de la feria. Con presencia en el hoyo 9 del recorrido, El Periódico de Sotogrande colabora una edición más con esta emblemática competición.
La Cañada Golf acogió el tradicional Torneo Feria de Guadiaro, competición organizada por la Comisión de Fiestas de Guadiaro con el fin de recaudar fondos para las distintas festividades del pueblo, en especial de la feria citada. La jornada fue un auténtico éxito, donde los 182 inscritos al torneo pudieron disfrutar de un inmejorable día de golf. El torneo se disputó en 18 hoyos bajo la modalidad Greensome Stableford y gracias a las condiciones climáticas y el
estado del campo pudimos disfrutar de grandes resultados, destacando a la pareja formada por Ángel y Leticia Quirós como la mejor hándicap con los 49 puntos stableford neto realizados y a Alberto Gutiérrez y José Luis Sánchez en catego-ría scratch con 40 puntos stableford bruto.

Guadiaro Fair Tournament, tradition and family at La Cañada Golf
• Once again this year, the municipal course is hosting this traditional tournament, before the fair takes place. With a presence at the 9th hole, El Periódico de Sotogrande is collaborating once again at this edition of the iconic competition.
La Cañada Golf hosted the traditional Guadiaro Fair Tournament, a competition organised by the Festivities Committee of Guadiaro in order to raise funds for the different festivities in the town, especially the aforementioned fair. The day was a real success, with the 182 players enrolled in the tournament enjoying an unbeatable day of golf. The tournament was played over 18 holes under the Greensome Stableford format and
thanks to the climate conditions and the condition of the course, we were able to enjoy great results, notably the pairing formed by Ángel and Leticia Quirós as the best handicap with 49 overall stableford points and Alberto Gutiérrez and José Luis Sánchez in the scratch category with 40 overall stableford points. The awards ceremony took place on one of the terraces of Restaurante Mulligan, accompanied by a large dinner for over 300 people, where a large num-
ber of prizes and gifts were awarded to all the participants in the event. The evening was chaired by the complete Management Board, led by the President Ms Ana Vega, as well as different members of the Festivities Committee of Guadiaro, with the special presence of Mr Fernando Costilla and Mr André Montero, who presented the event.

Una triste perdida la de Fernando Aspuru que ha fallecido dejando una huella imborrable en el golf de la zona. Fernando fue director durante los primeros años de la Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort, actualmente conocido como La Hacienda Links Golf, mas concretamente en 2000 y 2014. Un desempeño y esfuerzo que sirvieron para crear lo que es ahora este majestuoso campo de golf situado en uno de los privilegiados del Sur de Europa.

A sad loss for Fernando Aspuru who has passed away leaving a mark on golf in the area. Fernando was the director during the early years of the Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort, now known as La Hacienda Links Golf, more specifically in 2000 and 2014. A performance and effort that served to create what is now this majestic golf course located in one of the privileged golf courses in Southern Europe.
