EL VERANO EN SOTOGRANDE ES MUCHO VERANO
T
odo el año viviendo rápido, con mil cosas que hacer a diario y poco tiempo para relajarse... Menos mal que agosto llega siempre a para cargarnos las pilas y hacernos disfrutar de la vida y de todas las cosas buenas que la conforman. Agosto, mes dorado en Sotogrande. Sol, playa, atardeceres, amaneceres, comilonas, risas entre amigos... ¡Ay! Cuanto nos gustaría parar el reloj y poder sumergirnos en unas vacaciones sotograndinas que durasen, por lo menos, dos o tres agostos seguidos... Toca disfrutar de Sotogrande, queridos lectores. Sacarle todo el jugo a este maravilloso paraíso y sumar un buen número de buenos recuerdos para sacarlos durante esos días lluviosos de invierno en los que uno necesita acordarse de esa luz que todo lo inunda durante el verano. Queremos formar parte de esa maleta de buenos momentos. Por eso, hemos preparado una edición de La Revista de Sotogrande en la que nos rendimos ante el verano sotograndino, llenando cada página de contenidos que hablan de él y de la buena vida que nos regala Sotogrande a todos los que tenemos la suerte de pasearlo cada día. It is time to enjoy Sotogrande, dear readers. Really making the most of this marvellous paradise and adding a large number good memories to dig them out on rainy days in winter when you need to remember the light that floods everything during summer. We want to form part of the baggage of good times. Therefore, we have prepared an edition of Sotogrande Magazine where we surrender to Sotogrande summer, filling each page with content that talks about it and the good life that Sotogrande offers to everyone who is lucky enough to walk through it each day. Foto: Doro Plana Cruzando el Puerto de Sotogrande desembarcamos en la extraordinaria Playa de Torreguadiaro, uno de los puntos de encuentro y de mayor afluencia durante el verano. Ahí encontramos dos nombres propios: Bahía Limón y Chambao. Sin duda, dos referentes en la zona que trascienden ya su popularidad por su gastronomía, buen ambiente, conciertos y espectáculos en directo. Euologia o Carrero, también son buenas opciones para comer buen pescado con los pies, prácticamente, en la arena.

Dirección a Málaga, se encuentra Milla de Plata. Un hotel boutique con una terraza de vistas maravillosas y acceso a una preciosa cala. Su gastronomía y servicio invitan a una parada obligatoria antes de llegar a Cala Sardina. n reloj que luce bien en cualquier cubierta de un barco. La novedad más importante que nos ofrece Rolex en 2019. El mayor cambio que introduce la firma relojera en el nuevo Yacht-Master 42 es que ha aumentado 2 milímetros de diámetro, hasta alcanzar los 42, (pasa a ser, por tanto, uno de los relojes más grandes de la colección. Con anterioridad se hicieron modelos con 37 y 40 mm.). Además, el hecho de que su caja sea en oro blanco, primera vez que Rolex lo utiliza en su familia de relojes náuticos y no en acero, hace que aumente aún más la personalidad de este modelo. Otra de las características más llamativas es que el disco del bisel giratorio bidireccional, desarrollado y patentado por Rolex en 2005 para sus relojes profesionales es, por vez primera, de Cerachrom. El bisel es muy útil para calcular los tiempos de navegación y es una de las señas de identidad de los relojes Yacht-Master de Rolex. Por primera vez, la marca ha equipado al Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master con el calibre de carga automática 3235. Su reserva de marcha es de 70 horas y el volante late a 28.800 alternancias/hora. Este modelo se entrega con el brazalete Oysterflex, con láminas metálicas flexibles en una aleación de titanio y níquel, muy resistente y de gran durabilidad.

The biggest change made by the watchmaker to the new Yacht-Master 42 is that it has increased the diameter by 2 millimetres, to 42 (it thus becomes one of the largest watches in the collection. Also, the fact that its casing is in white gold, the first time that Rolex has used it in its family of maritime watches and not in steel, has further increased the character of this model. Piaget es una de las firmas relojeras que mejor trabaja los relojes joya y en esta ocasión nos presenta la colección Possession, en la que destacan los tonos cálidos de sus esferas y un nivel muy alto de engaste de las piedras preciosas. Las vacaciones, los días de relax también son el lugar idóneo para lucir joyas, Y el Piaget Possession es una de ellas, sin duda. This Bronzo Submersible is a professional diving watch that is defined by the large 47 mm diameter casing and the revolving bevel, to which a brown ceramic disc has been applied that has been treated with micro-sandblasting so that it integrates perfectly with the bronze of the casing. The Panerai Bronzo is water-resistant to 300 metres and all the movements are visible, even in complete darkness. ara gente de altos vuelos. Un reloj vintage de aviación que pasa a formar parte de la colección Pilot, seña de identidad de la firma Zenith. Este modelo está inspirado en un modelo, Cairelli, que tuvo mucha repercusión en los años 60 y tiene la virtud de ser fiel al reloj que evoca, a la vez ser llevadero en el día a día por cualquier persona, sea aficionada o no a los relojes de aviación. El Pilot Tipo CP-2 Flyback incorpora en su interior el calibre El Primero 405B, un movimiento de cronógrafo de carga automática con función flyback (permite la vuelta a cero del cronógrafo, sin necesidad de pararlo, comenzando instantáneamente una nueva cuenta desde cero) que oscila a una alta frecuencia de 36.000 alternancias/hora y ofrece una gran reserva de marcha de 50 horas. El Primero sigue siendo el cronógrafo más preciso fabricado en serie ya que es capaz de medir fracciones de una décima de segundo. Continuando con su fidelidad al Cairelli, los contadores del cronógrafo son del estilo bi-compax, con el pequeño segundero a la izquierda y el totalizador de 30 minutos del cronógrafo a la derecha.

TAG HEUER. MONACO EDICIÓN LIMITADA (1979-1989)

ara nostálgicos. TAG Heuer celebra 50 años de uno de sus modelos más icónicos, el Monaco, con cinco ediciones limitadas inspiradas en las tendencias, colores y estilos propios de cada una de estas cinco décadas (1969- 2019). En 1971, el reloj Monaco saltó a la fama compartiendo primer plano en la gran pantalla con el actor Steve McQueen, quien lució el modelo en su muñeca en la película Le Mans. La que traemos a estas páginas es la segunda de la serie, la última presentada por la marca relojera, la que va de 1979 a 1989. En este modelo, inspirado en los años 80 llama la atención su atrevida esfera roja y el escudo “Monaco Heuer” grabado en el fondo de caja. Con un diseño inspirado en el modelo original, en su interior, cuenta con el prestigioso Calibre 11, una versión moderna del movimiento cronógrafo de cuerda automática que hizo su debut en el interior del Mónaco original en 1969. En esta ocasión, el calibre 11 alcanza una reserva de marcha de 40 horas. Este reloj se produce en una edición limitada de 169 piezas. Al igual que en el modelo original, los pulsadores se encuentran en el lado derecho de la caja mientras que la corona se sitúa a la izquierda, una característica poco convencional que ha distinguido al Monaco durante los últimos 50 años.

El polo llegó a Sotogrande al principio de su andadura, desde que en 1965 se construyese la mítica cancha de la playa. Polo a orillas del mar de carácter familiar que fue tomando fuerza y evolucionando hasta convertirse en lo que es hoy. Cada año compiten en sus canchas los mejores jugadores nacionales e internacionales y la Temporada de Verano es, sin lugar
a dudas, el evento deportivo más exclusivo del país. Este año, se cumple la edición número 48, con más de veinte equipos que compiten en el alto, mediano y bajo handicap en busca de las preciadas copas que conforman este Torneo. POLO & SOTOGRANDE Polo arrived in
Sotogrande from its beginnings, as the legendary “Beach” pitch was built in 1965. Polo by the sea with a family-friendly character that gradually gained strength and evolved to become what it is today. Each year the best national and international players compete on its pitches and the Summer Season is undoubtedly the most exclusive sports event in the country. This year, is the 48th edition with more than twenty teams will compete in the high, medium and low handicap categories in the hunt for the precious cups that form this Tournament. Names such as Juan Martin Nero, Gonzalo Pieres, Clemente Zavaleta and Pablo Mac Donough form part of the exceptional line-up this year.
A match involves two teams competing, each formed by four players who compete to score more goals in the opponent´s goal in 4 or 6 playing periods named “chukkers”. Each chukker lasts for 7 minutes and there is a three-minute break between them, used to change horses. The teams change ends after each goal.

nce again this summer, during the first week of July, Tarifa hosted one of the events of the Global Kitesurf Association (GKA) championship at the legendary Valdevaqueros bay, a meeting point for the world elite of this sport. The event was attended by more than 90 riders, from different places such as Portugal, Australia, USA, Hawaii, Germany, Cape Verde, Italy, Brazil, South Africa, France and Spain, which had the presence of the locals Alex Pastor, Kiko Roig, Liam Whaley and Carla Herrera. After several days of competition, the western wind did a favour for the participants, offering them a breath-taking final. A marathon day, for both judges and riders, as the action on the beach didn´t stop for more

than seven hours. The reigning freestyle world champion, Carlos Mario from Brazil, delighted the public at Valdevaqueros with the most technical tricks in his repertoire; likewise, the locals Liam Whaley and Jerome Cloetens maintained their high level at all times with the great motivation of competing at “home”. Airton Cozzolino, the current strapless world champion began his ascent to the podium in resounding form and only the Western wind was able to cut short his coronation after the complete fall of wind on the beach, whit put an end to the competition for this world championship heat. ara encontrar un destino ideal no es necesario pasar horas frente a un mapa o el ordenador, simplemente, basta con alzar un poco la mirada y otear al frente. A tan sólo 14 kms. [por mar] de la costa peninsular se encuentra la Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta; un lugar muy especial y un enclave de obligada visita en el que conocer su unión de culturas, su carácter único y un paisaje natural propio de otro continente que casi podemos acariciar desde nuestras playas. El viaje, el desplazamiento, forma parte de la diversión y del atractivo del destino. Lo habitual, desde el Puerto de Algeciras, disfrutar de los
40/45 minutos de travesía en ferry aunque desde hace unos años también se encuentra la posibilidad de cubrir el trayecto en prácticamente diez minutos con la conexión por helicóptero entre ambos puertos. Junto a la estación marítima recibe al visitante uno de los encantos más exportados por el destino norteafricano y reconocibles a nivel turístico. n order to find an ideal destination, you don´t need to spend hours in front of a map or computer, you only need to look up and gaze at the horizon. Just 14 km away [by sea] on the peninsula coast is the Autonomous City of Ceuta; a very special place and an obligatory visit for discovering its union of cultures, its unique character and a natural landscape inherent to another content that we can almost touch from our beaches. The trip, the journey, forms part of the fun and appeal of the destination. Normally, from Algeciras Port, you can enjoy a 40/45 minute ferry trip however for years there is also the chance to cover the trip in practically ten minutes with a helicopter connection between both ports. ocos podrían imaginar a finales del Siglo XVIII la trascendencia en todo el mundo que tendría aquella ciudad fundada en la Costa Este de Norteamérica gracias a la cesión de terreno de los estados de Virginia y Meryland. Washington D.C., capital de los Estados Unidos, es una de las pocas ciudades en el mundo (junto con Brasilia), diseñadas con un propósito exclusivo, en estos dos casos, convertirse en la capital del país. La Revista de Sotogrande te invita a vivir un recorrido apasionante por sus rincones y monumentos para conocer esta fantástica ciudad en la

que se han tomado y toman algunas de las decisiones más influyentes de la historia contemporánea. Si te encuentras cerca de Nueva York se trata de una de las rutas más frecuentadas por su proximidad y fácil conexión en transportes ligeros. La visita, tras divisar lo más cerca posible las instalaciones del Pentágono (ya que no puede visitarse, por motivos evidentes), arranca en el emblemático Cementerio de Arlington, uno de los cementerios militares más grandes del mundo (en la actualidad alberga cerca de medio millón de tumbas) y sin duda LA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE
el más conocido, ya que en él descansan los hermanos Kennedy, incluido el expresidente y su esposa Jacqueline. El fuego de la ‘llama eterna’, símbolo que preside las tumbas de ambos (franqueados por las de sus hijos), concentra buena parte de las visitas, junto con la del Soldado Desconocido. Cuenta la leyenda que JFK fue precisamente enterrado en Arligton y no en el panteón familiar, como deseaba su madre, por la insistencia de Jacqueline. La razón, muy sencilla. Narraba que paseando junto a John por una colina en Arligton, años antes del fatídico

desenlace en Dallas, el entonces presidente pronunció una frase que ella no pudo olvidar mientras contemplaba el paisaje de la Ciudad de Washington: “aquí podría descansar en paz, algún día”. Y así fue. Colegios, institutos de todo el país y turistas de todos los rincones del mundo pasean a diario por este enclave para quedar impresionados con sus geométricas y lineales tumbas y los sesgos históricos de la cultura militar norteamericana. Antes de poner rumbo al centro de la ciudad, en su mayoría ocupada por edificios
administrativos (resaltar que por cuestiones de seguridad no hay rascacielos, ni viviendas particulares en las manzanas más próximas a la Casa Blanca y el Capitolio), el monumento a Iwo Jima supone una parada obligatoria. Esta imponente escultura de más de 25 metros de altura inmortaliza la célebre fotografía tomada por Joe Rosenthal en 1945 y además supone, en su base, un tributo a todas las actuaciones históricas de los marines estadounidenses. El siguiente alto en el camino desemboca en uno de los puntos más icónicos de la caLA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE
pital y presente en los billetes de cinco dólares: el Memorial Abraham Lincoln. Un señorial edificio, con estilo de templo griego, que se encuentra perfectamente alineado, para asombro del visitante, con la laguna reflectante, el enorme obelisco del Monumento a Washington y el Capitolio, al fondo. Sin duda, será la parada que mayor tiempo ocupe al visitante y uno de los momentos más recordados. En la misma zona del National Mall se puede disfrutar también de otros monumentos de interés como los homenajes a la Guerra de Vietnam, la de Corea o la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El tránsito hasta la siguiente estación de esta ruta llevará al visitante a recorrer sitios tan históricos como la Casa Fundacional de la Cruz Roja en los Estados Unidos o la reconocible Avenida Pennsylvania, una de las calles más poderosas del mundo. Washington D.C., capital of the United States, is one of the few cities around the world (alongside Brasilia) designed with a single aim, in these two cases, to become the capital of the country. in order to discover this fantastic city in which some of the most influential decisions in contemporary history have been taken and are taken. If you are near New York, it is one of the most frequented routes due to its proximity and easy connection on light transport. The visit, after glimpsing the facilities of the Pentagon from as close as possible (it cannot be visited for evident reasons), gets underway in the emblematic Arlington Cemetery, one of the largest military cemeteries in the world (it is LA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE
currently home to half a million graves) and undoubtedly the most well-know, as it is the resting place of the Kennedy brothers, including the former president and his wife Jacqueline. Before heading to the city, mostly occupied by administrative buildings (it is worth highlighting that for security reasons there are no skyscrapers, or private properties in the blocks closest to the White House and the Capitol), the monument to Iwo Jima is an obligatory stop. This impressive sculpture which is more than 25 metres high immortalises the famous photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal in 1945,

l pasear por Sotogrande, el visitante encontrará zonas completamente distintas, en función de su ubicación. Del colorido y animado Puerto y su Marina, con las embarcaciones atracadas a las puertas de las viviendas, a la tranquilidad y exclusividad de las impresionantes villas que se alzan tras cruzar el puente desde el que se contempla la desembocadura del río Guadiaro. La urbanización incorpora, además, todo tipo de instalaciones destinadas a la práctica deportiva, entre las que destacan los campos de golf, club de vela y canchas de polo. ARK alcanza la EXCELENCIA EN SOTOGRANDE Naturaleza y arquitectura se funden en un hogar de ensueño: Villa Origen. Un magistral proyecto con el que ARK Arquitectos suma una nueva joya al paisaje más exclusivo de Sotogrande. Por Mayte Solán
U
n terreno de casi una hectárea situado en medio del Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, muy llano a nivel topográfico y encarado al sur, fue el lugar elegido por ARK Arquitectos para dibujar Villa Origen. Un proyecto en el que la naturaleza más perfecta fue, desde el minuto cero, la gran protagonista. Una inagotable fuente de inspiración para un trabajo que, según explican sus arquitectos, prácticamente se fue creando solo, siempre en torno al terreno y a una máxima: la unidad como gran reto. El propósito, sin embargo, era más funcional. Desarrollar una vivienda unifamiliar de unos 2.500 m2, dentro de una parcela de 10.000 m2, con un conjunto de complejos requisitos entre los que se incluían una zona de spa, un espacio de wellness, un área para invitados o una sala gourmet. Finalmente, ARK Arquitectos optó por hacer un edificio en una sola planta, ocupando gran parte del terreno e integrándose totalmente en el

paisaje. “Un volumen enérgico y preciso que se cierra hacia el exterior, cuidando de la privacidad de sus moradores y abriéndose por completo al Parque Natural, como si quisiera abrazarlo e incorporarlo al proyecto”, argumentan al respecto sus creadores. En el interior, hay una secuencia de patios, jardines y elementos acuáticos con cajas de luz alrededor de las que se organizan los espacios habitables, lo que proporciona la sensación de vivir en un jardín. Así, la frontera entre el interior y el exterior se difumina y fusiona constantemente. Sin duda, una de las claves del éxito de este proyecto fue la necesidad imperante de capturar y entender la luz, de jugar con ella y de dominarla. Y es que, según el arquitecto y co-fundador de ARK, Manuel Ruiz Moriche, la luz es uno de los temas centrales de la arquitectura. Comprenderla y dosificarla es la clave para crear un espacio verdaderamente mágico. Un lugar tan maravilloso como Villa Origen en el que vivir y, en definitiva, sentirse feliz. n

ARK attains EXCELLENCE IN SOTOGRANDE Nature and architecture blend in a dream home: Villa Origen. A majestic project with which ARK Architects is adding a new gem to the most exclusive landscape in Sotogrande.
A
plot of almost one hectare located in the middle of Los Alcornocales Natural Park, with very flat terrain and facing the south was the place chosen by ARK Architects to design Villa Origen. A project where, from the outset, the most perfect nature was the big star. An endless source of inspiration for a project that, according to its architects, practically created itself, always around the land and a maxim: unity as a major challenge.

The objective, however, was more functional. To develop a single-family home of 2,500 m2, within a plot of 10,000 m2 with a series of complex requirement including a spa area, a wellness space, an area for guests and a gourmet living room. Finally, ARK Architects chose to create a building on a single floor, occupying a large part of the terrain and fully integrating into the landscape. “An energy-filled and precise volume that closes towards the outdoors,

Now it is a more convenient and modern store, with larger and more accessible spaces, which made shopping even easier and quicker. Spaces where I found a lot more product variety and brands to choose from. The difference is so great that I can definitively say that there is nothing like it in the area. For example, it has a spectacular Winery, where you can choose between more than 1,000 national and international wines and spirits. A fruit section with fresh seasonal produce from the area of an unbeatable quality. A fishmonger where I found the best fish and seafood from our coasts and also from Galicia. l polo es el único deporte que se ve de espaldas. Una curiosa expresión, que sirve para explicar ese matiz social que envuelve a un deporte que pocos conocen en profundidad, pero que todos disfrutan de una u otra forma durante las tardes de verano en la urbanización. Ver el partido, charlar, dejarse ver y ser visto forman parte de un ritual, que se re-

pite cada mes agosto desde hace décadas en Sotogrande. Invitados por un equipo argentino, disfrutamos del partido con intensidad. Al sonar la campana, sigue la fiesta, esta vez de manos de un delicioso asado típico argentino junto a los palenques. Buenos cortes hechos en las brasas, que nos resultan deliciosos. llar... La lista es tan larga como sabrosa, no es de extrañar que se considere una de las mejores carnes del planeta. Para acompañarlo, apuestan por un vino blanco de producción ecológica: Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc. La ausencia de uso de herbicidas, pesticidas y productos de síntesis hace que estos

Toda una veterana en el circuito cultural andaluz y español, la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico de la Costa del Sol alcanza los 20 años de existencia manteniendo su espíritu innegociablemente gratuito por y para el pueblo, añadiendo a su programación de proyecciones un completo abanico de exposiciones, presentaciones literarias y galardones a personalidades relevantes del audiovisual nacional y extranjero. Las actrices Manuela Velasco y Silvia Tortosa recibirán sendos Unicornios de Honor en homenaje a su trayectoria. El Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI de Estepona, como sede matriz, Marbella, Málaga y Benahavís serán los lugares que acogerán el Festival en esta edición tan especial, del 8 al 14 de septiembre.

antaba Gardel que 20 años no es nada (frase que da título también a una de las publicaciones conmemorativas que se presentan en el festival), pero en los terroríficos tiempos que corren para la cultura y la supervivencia de eventos como la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico de la Costa del Sol, liderada por el incombustible Julio Peces y los miembros de la Asociación Cultural Unicornio, dos décadas cuentan como un siglo. Contra viento y marea, el certamen continúa en su empeño de ampliar sus horizontes tanto culturales como territoriales, saliendo otra edición más allá de Estepona (histórica nave nodriza del festival) y ofreciendo gran parte de su ecléctica programación también en Mar-

bella, Benahavís e incluso Málaga capital. Al cumplir una fecha tan especial, este año no se girará en torno a un eje temático único, aunque las invasiones extraterrestres, un género muy querido por el gran público, tendrán buena parte de protagonismo en la inauguración de la Semana: bajo el título “Nos invaden”, el prestigioso escritor Javier Sierra y el periodista de RTVE Moisés Rodríguez (que este año ejercerá como maestro de ceremonias de la Gala de clausura) ofrecerán una charla abierta acerca de las invasiones extraterrestres en el cine, que se complementará con la proyección de una de las mejores películas de ciencia ficción jamás hechas, la legendaria “Ultimátum a la tierra”, de Robert Wise. Una

semana antes, el domingo 25 de agosto a partir de las 21 h. en la Plaza del Reloj de Estepona, tendrá lugar el ya tradicional concierto de presentación del Festival, en el que la Banda Municipal interpretará piezas de compositores como Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner o John Williams, pertenecientes a films como “Regreso al futuro”, “Titanic”, “Jurassic Park” o “La Lista de Schindler”, entre muchas otras. El apartado de proyecciones cinematográficas, en consonancia con tan señalada edición, se presenta este año especialmente jugoso. Dentro de la Sección Oficial a concurso competirán films clave del género fantástico en el último año, partiendo como favoritas la muy aplaudida cinta japonesa

“One Cut of The Dead”, de Shinichirô Ueda, divertidísima vuelta de tuerca al subgénero zombie combinado con dosis de cine dentro del cine; “Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich” de Sonny Laguna y Tommy Wiklund, una nueva versión del mítico film de culto de finales de los ochenta “El amo de las marionetas”, y “What Keeps You Alive”, la nueva propuesta del especialista en cine de género Colin Minihan, un habitual de los circuitos del fantástico gracias a películas como “Encuentros paranormales”, “Extraterrestrial” o “Rastro de sangre”. También tendrán algo que decir “Las aventuras de Spirou y Fantasio”, nueva aproximación cinematográfica al legendario personaje del cómic francobelga; “Norman”, minimalista ejercicio Sci-Fi de viajes en el tiempo procedente del indie norteamericano y “Hous3” ingeniosa propuesta en torno a un grupo de amigos y el uso pernicioso de las redes sociales a cargo del joven realizador español Manuel Munguia. No menos gozosas para el cinéfilo resultarán las secciones paralelas habituales. De un lado, la programación de “Este clásico es fantástico” volverá a dar la oportunidad de disfrutar en pantalla grande clasicazos de la talla de la ya mencionada “Ultimátum a la tierra”, el díptico “Cazafantasmas”, “El jovencito Frankestein” o, atención, un pase especial de “Alien: el octavo pasajero”, la obra maestra de Ridley Scott, por su 40 aniversario. Del otro, la siempre celebrada sección Anime ofrecida por Selecta Vision contará con hits de la animación japonesa como “Dragon Ball: Super Broly”, de Tatsuya Nagamine; “Maquia: una historia de amor inmortal”, de Mari Okada; “Mari y la flor de la bruja”, de Hiromasa Yonebayashi y la celebrada (y extraordinaria) “Quiero comerme tu páncreas”, de Shinichirô Us-
hijima. El Unicornio de Honor 2018 será este año, y sin que sirva de precedente, doble: uno irá a parar a la veterana actriz Silvia Tortosa, figura clave del fantaterror español gracias a su presencia en “Pánico en el transiberiano”, “Las garras de Lorelei” o la serie “Historias para no dormir”, creada por el recientemente fallecido Narciso Ibáñez Serrador. El segundo será para una trayectoria menos dilatada pero no de menor importancia, la de la joven actriz Manuela Velasco, protagonista de la saga [REC] creada por Paco Plaza y Jaume Balagueró, acaso

la más importante de la historia del cine de terror español. Por su parte, el Premio Especial del Jurado 2019 será para Javier Botet, toda una referencia internacional en el cine de terror (casi siempre transmutado en terroríficas criaturas gracias a su peculiar fisico) con su participación en films como “Mamá”, “Expediente Warren: El caso Enfield” o ambos capítulos de la nueva adaptación de Stephen King “It”, entre muchas otras. El premio ASFAAN 2019, entregado cada año a una figura andaluza importante dentro del cine, cae este año en manos del actor malagueño Emilio Gavira, habitual del cine de Javier Fesser (“El milagro de P. Tinto”, “La gran aventura de Mortadelo y Filemón”). Otra de las señas de identidad del festival, el apartado de exposiciones, se supera en esta XX Edición: Del 9 de agosto al 15 de septiembre los fans podrán disfrutar (de forma, insistimos, completamente gratuita) de la exposición “Fuego y Sangre” dedicada al fenómeno Juego de Tronos, un recorrido a la exitosísima serie de HBO (que recibirá, además, el premio “La TV es Fantástica” concedido cada año por el Certamen) a través de piezas, objetos y todo tipo de miscelánea. Pero sin duda la exposición más especial a nivel sentimental será “Nuestro Azpiri Querido”, a partir del 19 de agosto en Málaga y del 20 del mismo mes en Marbella, un merecidísimo homenaje a la vida y obra del legendario dibujante español fallecido hace dos años, gran colaborador y amigo del festival, que se complementará con una publicación conmemorativa con el mismo título. La exposición “20 años de exposiciones fantásticas” completa la sección con un repaso a las más de 40 muestras que la Semana ha ido ofreciendo al público a lo largo de sus dos décadas de existencia. n

20 YEARS OF FANTASTIC FILM ON THE COSTA DEL SOL A real veteran on the Andalusian and Spanish film circuit, the Costa del Sol International Week of Fantastic Film is celebrating its 20th anniversary while maintaining its spirit of being obligatorily free and for the people, adding to its program a complete range of exhibitions, literary presentations and awards to important figures from the national and foreign audiovisual sectors. The actresses Manuela Velasco and Silvia Tortosa will both receive “Unicorns of Honour in recognition of their career. With the Felipe VI Auditorium Theatre in Estepona as the main venue, Marbella, Malaga and Benahavis will be the places that will host the Festival in this very special edition, from 8 to 14 September.

ardel sang that 20 years is nothing (a phrase that also provides the title of one of the commemorative publications presented at the festival), but in the terrifying times for culture and the survival of events such as the Costa del Sol International Week of Fantastic Film, led by the tireless Julio Peces and the members of the Unicorn Cultural Association, two decades are like a century. Against all odds, the event continues in its efforts to extend its horizons, both cultural and territorial, with another edition going beyond Estepona (the historic mother ship of the festival) and offering another part of its eclectic programming also in Marbella, Benahavís and even Malaga capital. Celebrating such a special date, this year will not revolve around a single thematic pillar, however alien invasions, a genre beloved by the public, will mostly take centre stage in the opening of the Week: under the title “We´re being invaded”, the prestigious writer Javier Sierra and the RTVE journalist Moisés Rodríguez (who will serve as Master of Ceremonies this year at the Closing Gala) will give an open talk about alien invasions in film, which will be complemented by a screening of one of the best science fiction films ever made, the legendary “The Day the Earth Stood Still” by Robert Wise. A week before, on Sunday 25 August at 9 pm, in the Plaza del Reloj in Estepona, the tradition concert for the presentation of the Festival will take place, with the Municipal Band performing pieces by composers such as Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner and John Williams,

belonging to films such as “Back to the Future”, “Titanic”, “Jurassic Park” and “Schindler´s List”, among many others. The film screening section, in accordance with such a special edition, looks especially juicy this year. With the Official Competition Sector, key films from the fantastic genre of the last year will come, the early favourites are the much acclaimed Japanese film “One Cut of The Dead” by Shinichirô Ueda, a very fun spin on the zombie sub-genre combined with a dose of film within film; “Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich” by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund, a new version of the legendary cult film of the end of the eighties “The Puppet Master”, and “What Keeps You Alive”, the new proposal by the genre film specialist Colin Minihan, a regular on the fantastic genre circuits thanks to films such as “Grave encounters”, “Extraterrestrial” and “It Stains the Sand Red”. “Spirou & Fantasio’s Big Adventures” will also have a part to play, a new film approach to the legendary Franco-Belgian comic character; as will “Norman”, a minimalist Sci-Fi time travel exercise from American indie and “Hous3”, an ingenious proposal based around a group of friends and the pernicious use of social networks by the young Spanish director Manuel Munguia. The regular parallel sections will be no less enjoyable for film lovers. On one hand, the programming of “This classic is fantastic” will once
again offer the chance to enjoy great classics on the big screen of the stature of the aforementioned “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, the two-part “Ghostbusters”, “Young Frankenstein” and attention, a special screening of “Alien”, the Ridley Scott masterpiece, on its 40th anniversary. On the other hand, the always celebrated Anime section offered by Selecta Vision will have hits from Japanese anime such as “Dragon Ball: Super Broly”, by Tatsuya Nagamine; “Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms”, by Mari Okada; “Mary and the Witch´s Flower”, by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and the celebrated (and extraordinary) “I Want to Eat Your Pancreas”, by Shinichirô Ushijima. The 2018 Unicorn of Honour, will for the first time, go to two people: one will go the veteran actress Silvia Tortosa, a key figure in Spanish fan terror thanks to her presence in “Horror Express”, “The Loreley’s Grasp” and the series “Stories to Keep You Awake” created by the recently deceased Narciso Ibáñez Serrador. The second will go to a shorter, but no less important, career, that of the young actress Manuela Velasco, the star of the saga [REC] created by Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró, and perhaps the most important in the history of Spanish horror. The 2019 ASFAAN prize, awarded each year to an important figure in Andalusian film is going this year to the Malaga actor Emilio Gavira, a regular in the films of Javier Fesser (“The Miracle of P.Tinto”, “Mortadelo & Filemon: The Big Adventure”). Another of the hallmarks of the festival, the exhibitions sector, is getting even better at the 20th edition: From 9 August to 15 September, fans can enjoy (and we insist, completely for free) the exhibition “Fire and Blood” devoted to the Game of Thrones phenomenon, a journey through the extremely successful HBO series (which will also receive the “TV is fantastic” prize awarded each year by the Competition) through pieces, objects and all types of miscellaneous material. However, undoubtedly the most special exhibition at a sentimental level will be “Our Beloved Azpiri”, from 19 August in Malaga, and the 20th of the same month in Marbella, a very well-deserved tribute to the life and work of the legendary Spanish cartoonist who died two years ago, a great collaborator and friend of the festival, which will be complemented with a commemorative publication with the same title. The exhibition “20 years of fantastic exhibitions” completes the section by offering a retrospective of the more than 40 exhibitions that the Week has offered to the public over its two-decade existence. n

El Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters 2019 fue un éxito en todos los sentidos. Buen tiempo, un campo de excepción, el más alto nivel de competición y un ambiente de lujo para unos días de golf en mayúsculas coronados con la victoria del sudafricano Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
E
l Real Club Valderrama volvió a demostrar su maestría como anfitrión de grandes eventos de golf. Un torneo completísimo a todos los niveles que colocó el acento sudafricano en el emblemático salón de la fama del Real Club Valderrama con una tarjeta soñada para Christiaan Bezuidenhout, de 274 golpes, lo que le supuso acabar el gran desafío de este histórico campo con 10 golpes bajo el par. Tremendo su juego durante todo un fin de semana en el que se mantuvo siempre en los puestos de cabeza. Si bien no se consiguió revalidar un triunfo para los españoles (méritos hicieron), la jornada final estuvo llena de emoción para el público local gracias a la colosal ronda del guadiareño Álvaro Quirós (-5) para acabar
en segunda posición con cuatro golpes bajo el par en el global; posición que compartió con el vasco Jon Rahm, que, pese a luchar durante las cuatro jornadas, finalmente no pudo seguir el ritmo competitivo de Bezuidenhout en Valderrama. La segunda plaza también contó con el sabor español de Adri Aranus. Christiaan Bezuidenhout quizás no fue el nombre más coreado por la afición durante todo el fin de semana en el Real Club Valderrama, público que aguantó estoicamente la tremenda ola de calor que azotó a todo el sur durante la celebración del torneo. Venía de compartir un tercer puesto más que interesante con Álvaro Quirós siete días antes en el BMW International Open (Alemania), lo que hacía presagiar que ya venía en forma. ronda inaugural fantástica de 66 golpes, seguidas de 68/69 y 71 lo hicieron terminar con una tarjeta que quedará para la historia en el torneo. Sergio García, pese a pelear también todo el fin de semana y mostrar un gran juego (a veces los putts, simplemente, es que no quieren entrar), se mantuvo en liza y acabó con cuatro golpes bajo el par en séptima posición. Éxito sin paliativos en esta quinta edición del Andalucía Masters donde a la emoción de lo deportivo hay que sumar el absoluto respaldo institucional y la notable afluencia de público, con cerca de 45.000 espectadores. Good weather, an exceptional course, the highest level of competition a luxury environment for a few days of top golf crowned with the victory of the South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout.

eal Club Valderrama once again showed its mastery as the host of great golfing events. It was a very complete tournament at all levels that added a South African accent to the emblematic room of fame of Real Club Valderrama with a dream card for Christiaan Bezuidenhout, of 274 shots, which meant he finished the major challenge of this historic course 10 shots under par. His play was fantastic over the entire weekend, staying in the top spots at all times. Although it wasn´t possible to maintain a Spanish winner (they deserved praise), the final day was full of excitement for the local crowds thanks to the immense round of the Guadiaro player Álvaro Quirós (-5) to finish in second place with an overall score of four under par; a

position that he shared with the Basque player Jon Rahm, despite battling over the four days Rahm was unable to keep up with the competitive pace of Bezuidenhout at Valderrama. Second place also had the Spanish flavour of Adri Aranus. Christiaan Bezuidenhout was perhaps not the name most chanted by fans over the entire weekend at Real Club Valderrama, fans who stoically withstood the tremendous heatwave that hit all of the south during the tournament. He had recently shared a very intriguing third-place finish Álvaro Quirós seven days before at the BMW International Open (Germany), which hinted that he was arriving in form. A fantastic opening round of LA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE
66 shots, followed by 68, 69 and 71 meant he finished with a card that will go down in the history of the tournament. Sergio García, despite also battling over the entire weekend and displaying great play (sometimes the putts simply do not want to go in), stayed in the race and finished on four under par in seventh place. Resounding success at the fifth edition of the Andalucía Masters where in addition to the excitement of the sport there was complete institutional support and notable crowds, with close to 45,000 spectators. Real Club Valderrama was a party during the week of the tournament. Next year will be even bigger and better. n

Sotogrande ha sido, desde su creación, uno de los lugares de referencia para jugar al golf en España. El Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, el primer campo de la urbanización, era conocido en los sesenta en los círculos más selectos por ser un recorrido al estilo americano diseñado por Robert Trent Jones en el sur de Andalucía.

randes nombres de todos los ámbitos conforman la lista de visitantes que, atraídos por las bondades de esta urbanización y su relación con sus residentes, acudían a disfrutar del golf en este excepcional destino. A través del archivo gráfico histórico de Grupo HCP, recordamos el paso por Sotogrande del cantante y actor Bing Crosby, una de las grandes leyendas americanas, famoso en el mundo entero por su aparición en 72 películas y sus más de cuatrocientos millones de discos vendidos.

Bing Crosby era un auténtico apasionado del golf y un asiduo a Sotogrande, donde practicaba su deporte favorito con frecuencia. Esta serie fotográfica, concretamente, fue tomada por el entrañable Doro Plana en junio de 1967. Su afición por esta disciplina deportiva era tal que, lamentablemente, encontró la muerte, precisamente, en un campo de golf. Fue en el hoyo 17 del club madrileño de la Moraleja en 1977 y en la partida participaba Manuel Piñero. n

When BING CROSBY played GOLF in SOTOGRANDE...
Since its creation, Sotogrande has been one of the leading places for playing golf in Spain. Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, the first course in the resort, was known in the sixties in the most select circles as an Americanstyle course designed by Robert Trent Jones in the south of AndalucĂa.

ig names from all sectors form the list of visitors who, attracted by the virtues of this resort and its relationship with its residents, came to enjoy golf in this exceptional destination. Through the historic picture archive of Grupo HCP, we are remembering the visit to Sotogrande of the singer and actor Bing Crosby, one of the great American legends, famous around the entire world for appearing in 72 films and selling more than four hundred million records. Bing Crosby was truly passionate about golf and a regular in Sotogrande, where he regularly practised his favourite sport. Specifically, this series of photographs was taken by the beloved Doro Plana in June 1967. His passion for this sport was such that, unfortunately, he indeed passed away on a golf course. It was at the 17th hole of the Madrid club of La Moraleja in 1977 and Manuel PiĂąero participated in the round. n

CONTINÚA El VII Circuito de Golf Sotogrande avanza, viento en popa, ofreciendo a sus muchos seguidores un verano de golf y estilo de vida difícil de superar. San Roque Club y Valle Romano Golf fueron los escenarios elegidos para disputar la tercera y cuarta prueba de una edición cinco estrellas.

ran día de golf el que vivieron los jugadores que asistieron al Old Course de San Roque Club, cita correspondiente a la tercera prueba puntuable del calendario del VII Circuito de Golf Sotogrande, celebrada el pasado 23 de junio. El campo se presentó en unas espectaculares condiciones, con un tiempo muy agradable durante las primeras horas de la mañana. Con salida al tiro a las 9:00 h.; el centenar de participantes comenzó un recorrido competitivo y no siempre sencillo, con calles ajustadas en algunos de los hoyos, que elevaron el listón de la jornada. Sin olvidar los búnkeres y obstáculos de agua que pusieron en aprietos a más de un jugador. Al término de la prueba deportiva, el inicio del evento social con el cóctel, degustación de bebidas, entrega de premios y sorteo de regalos. Respecto a los ganadores, Francisco Muñoz Montez se llevó el trofeo a la Bola más cercana (hoyo 3), mientras que el Drive más largo fue para Inés Sastre y Maxim Kulyukin (premio para ambas categorías en el CI RCU I TO Hoyo 17). La categoría Damas fue a parar a manos de la gran triunfadora de la jornada, Inés Sastre, seguida de Luanica Pouroulis y Danielle Bostoen. Thierry Vanlier se llevó la victoria en la Segunda Cat. Caballeros, acompañado en el podio por Victor Nas Rodríguez y Craig Holmes. Por último, David MacGregor conquistó la Primera Categoría Caballeros, seguido de Joachim Rosli y Pedro Corral Pedruzo. VALLE ROMANO GOLF
Valle Romano Golf recibió a los jugadores del Torneo para disputar la cuarta prueba de la temporada el pasado 27 de julio. Casi un centenar de jugadores disfrutaron de una reñida jornada deportiva en la que el invitado sorpresa fue, sin duda, el viento de Poniente. Más de un apuro y golpe
perdido provocó a lo largo del recorrido este singular compañero de partida. Con salida al tiro y bajo la Modalidad Stableford individual, los participantes disfrutaron de una ronda estupenda de golf, con picnic durante el recorrido y con un trazado que el viento convirtió en muy técnico y sacó de los nervios a más de un golfista. Tras la prueba deportiva, tiempo para el relax y la transformación en evento social que consigue transmitir Grupo HCP en cada una de las pruebas del Circuito de Golf Sotogrande. La Casa Club acogió el cóctel, entrega de premios, sorteo de regalos, degustación de bebidas de primeras marcas (Marqués de Risca y Gin Marsh de Barbadillo, entre otras), y muchas sorpresas más. Respecto al apartado deportivo, felicitar a los ganadores. En los Premios especiales, el trofeo a la Bola más cercana fue para Luis González de Gor y el Drive más largo: Valentina Albertazzi (Damas) y Antonio Cidoncha (Caballeros). En la caDE G OLF tegoría Damas, Danielle Bostoen se impuso, seguida de Valentina Albertazzi y Sun Quianru. En la Segunda Categoría Caballeros, la victoria fue para Juan Vaquero, seguido de Terry G. The VII Sotogrande Golf Circuit progresses, wind in its sails, offering its many followers a summer of golf and lifestyle that is difficult to surpass. San Roque Club and Valle Romano Golf were the settings chosen to hold the third and fourth events of a five-star edition.
A
great day of golf was enjoyed by the players who went to the Old Course of San Roque Club, the event corresponding to the third qualifying event of the calendar of the VII Sotogrande Golf Circuit, held on 23 June. The course was in spectacular conditions, with very pleasant weather during the early hours of the morning. With a shotgun start at 9 am, the one hundred participants began a course that is competitive and not always easy, with narrow fairways on some of the holes, that raised the bar on the day. Also, we shouldn´t forget about the bunkers and water obstacles which cause problems for more than one player. At the end of the sporting event, it was time for the start of the social event with a cocktail, a drinks tasting, awards ceremony and prize draw. With regard to the winners, Francisco Muñoz Montez took the trophy for Closest Ball (hole 3) while the Longest Drive went to Inés Sastre y Maxim Kulyukin (prize for both categories on Hole 17). The Women´s category went to the big winner of the day, Inés Sastre, followed by Luanica Pouroulis and Danielle Bostoen. Thierry Vanlier took victory in the Men´s Second Category, accompanied on the podium by Victor Nas Rodríguez and Craig Holmes. Lastly, David MacGregor won

Valle Romano Golf welcome the Tournament players to hold the fourth event of the season on 27 July. Almost one hundred players enjoyed a closely-fought day of sport where the surprise guest was undoubtedly the Western wind. This unique playing companion caused more than one spot of trouble and lost balls along the course. With a shotgun start and under the Stableford Individual format, the participants enjoyed a fantastic round of golf, with a picnic during the round and a course that the wind made very technical, which caused nerves for more than one golfer. After the sport, it was time for relaxation, leisure and the transformation into a social event that Grupo HCP manages to convey at each of the events of the Sotogrande Golf Circuit.

The Club House hosted the cocktail party, awards ceremony, prize draw, tasting of high-end drinks (Marqués de Riscal and Gin Marsh by Barbadillo, among others), and many more surprises. As for the sport, we wish to congratulate the winners.
