The resort has an appearance that hasn´t been seen in years, with packed streets, terraces and establishments operating at full capacity and a programme and social and sporting agenda with more events than in the last ﬁve years. In the resort we are recovering a nice period of business openings, the establishment of businesses and the celebration of very important events and of increasing important, not only the sporting ones which are very well-known by everyone.

Todos los indicios apuntaban a algo parecido mientras se iban tachando días en el calendario de la primavera pero pocos imaginaban encontrase un verano igual al que estamos viviendo y disfrutando estos días en LaSotogrande.urbanización

presenta un aspecto como hace años que no se presenciaba, con calles repletas, terrazas y establecimientos a todo tren y una programación y agenda social y deportiva con más eventos que en los últimos cinco años. Recuperamos en el resort una bonita época de apertura de negocios, implantación de empresas y celebración de eventos muy importantes y cada vez de mayor trascendencia, no sólo los deportivos que son sobradamente conocidos por todos. Todos los mecanismos y eslabones del tejido empresarial de Sotogrande parecen conectarse un poco mejor entre sí y ofrecer un destino global de calidad y a la altura de la expectativas de un resort de tal nombre internacional (como también hacen zonas vecinas como el proyecto de La Hacienda, una propuesta muy atractiva y que mejorará el destino en todos los sentidos). Sólo falta vigilar de cerca la calidad y el servicio que ofrecemos a nuestros visitantes y residentes. No dejemos que los ‘oportunistas’ y el ‘oportunismo’ desembarque en Sotogrande simpliﬁcando el listón que los locales ponemos a nuestros propósitos. Debemos mostrar una imagen sólida y fuerte, sólo así viviremos más veranos como éste, con los más altos índices de calidad.

All the signs pointed to something similar as the days were gradually ticked off on the spring calendar but few could have imagined a summer like the one we are currently experiencing and enjoying in Sotogrande.

All the mechanisms and links in the Sotogrande business community seem to connecting a little better together and offering a quality global destination that matches up to the expectations of a resort of such international renown (just like neighbouring zones such as the project of La Hacienda, a very attractive proposal that will improve the destination in every Weregard).only need to closely monitor the quality and service that we offer our visitors and residents. Luis Alfonso “Es emocionante descubrir la historia de España a través de un juego”

Luis Alfonso de Borbón, a great lover and expert of Sotogrande presents the project “Ñ Juega España” to Sotogrande Magazine. A fantastic initiative to discover and learn different historical, cultural and geographic topics through a fun children´s game. We took the chance to ask him about his passion for polo and his many visits to the resort.

Luis Alfonso de Borbón, gran amante y conocedor de Sotogrande y sus veranos, presenta a La Revista Sotogrande el proyecto “Ñ Juega España”. Una fantástica iniciativa para conocer y aprender diferentes temáticas históricas, culturales y geográﬁcas a través de un divertido juego infantil. Le Jeu Royal”, teaches the history of my family since its origins (Hugo Capeto in 987) until present. Then came “Ñ Juega España”, a game for looking back at and discoveringtheHistoryofSpain,fromtheCatholicMonarchsuntilpresent.ItseemedlogicalthataftergettingtoknowtheHistoryofourcountrybetter,wewouldalsodosowithitsGeography;thatishow “Conoce España” was created, a game that looks at the geography of Spain: each Community has its descriptive card, as do all the provinces, the main rivers that flow through Spain and the mountain systems. With “Salta al ruedo”, I aim to look back at the history of bullfighting and inform people about the art of fighting bulls, which is part of our culture. “Gánate el Cielo” is anentertaininggameofcardsrecognisingChristianity,whichissolinkedtotheHistoryofSpain,thewestandAmericancontinent,whichlooksatthelivesof80saints.

Muy buenas, en primer lugar, es un placer tenerle en las páginas de nuestra revista este verano y además con un proyecto entre las manos como es ‘Juega España’. Una iniciativa, especialmente familiar, y que transversalmente ligada al entretenimiento a través de la cultura y el conocimiento. Háblenos un poco sobre cómo nace este proyecto.

In the middle of lockdown, seeing my daughter Eugenia creating sheets to study, I thought of the idea of a set of summary cards that would allow everyone to learn, while playing a kind of trivia game. The cards are themed, and each one describes a ﬁgure, a place, an event. . . The idea was interesting, it seemed easy, but I wasn´t aware of the enormous work it entailed. I had to ﬁnd 80 topics, concentrate each into 6 phrases that are not too long, and create the riddle. There are also 16 action cards, which makes the game more fun.

Hello, ﬁrstly, it is a pleasure to have you among the pages of our magazine this summer and also with a project like “Juega España” (Play Spain). An initiative that is particularly family based and that is transversally linked to entertainment through culture and knowledge. Tell us a little more about how this project came about.

En pleno conﬁnamiento, viendo a mi hija Eugenia hacerse ﬁchas para estudiar, se me ocurrió realizar un juego de cartas resumen, que permitiera a todo el mundo aprender, mientras se juega a una especie de trivial. Las cartas son temáticas, y cada una describe un personaje, un lugar, un evento .

What are you especially seeking to encourage with this interesting and educational game?

. La idea era interesante, parecía fácil, pero no era consciente del enorme trabajo que conllevaba. Tenía que encontrar 80 temas, concentrar cada uno en 6 frases no muy largas, y crear el acertijo. También hay 16 cartas de acción, que hace el juego más divertido.

La web www.juegaespaña.es describe los productos y facilita la compra. ¿Se ha perdido esa curiosidad por conocer y descubrir la historia entre las generaciones más jóvenes? La curiosidad por aprender siempre existirá; lo que se puede hacer es fomentarla. Hoy en día se dispone de muchos medios para profundizar cualquier asunto. Es importante que la gente conozca su pasado, para aprender de él, y no cometer los errores. El aprendizaje no debería estar reñido con la diversión… En absoluto. No hay mejor manera que aprender divirtiéndose. Cualquier juego que pueda ayudar a formarse es bienvenido . . . así es como me surgió la idea de crear estos juegos, y ojalá que ayuden a mucha gente.

¿Qué busca potenciar, especialmente, con este interesante y didáctico juego? Se trata de enseñar mediante un sencillo juego, que se puede jugar entre amigos o entre familiares, incluso entre distintas generaciones (padre e hijos, abuelos y nietos). El primer juego que creé, fue en francés y se llama “Le Jeu Royal”, da a conocer la historia de mi familia desde su origen (Hugo Capeto en el año 987) hasta nuestros días. Luego vino “Ñ Juega España”, un juego para repasar y conocer la Historia de España, desde los Reyes Católicos hasta nuestros días. Parecía lógico que después de conocer mejor la Historia de nuestro país, lo hiciéramos también con su Geografía; así es como nace “Conoce España”, un juego que repasa la geografía de España: cada Comunidad tiene su carta descriptiva, al igual que todas las provincias, los principales ríos que ﬂuyen por España y los sistemas montañosos. Con “Salta al ruedo”, pretendo hacer un repaso de la historia de la tauromaquia y dar a conocer el arte de lidiar toros, que forma parte de nuestra cultura. “Gánate el Cielo” es un entretenido juego de cartas en reconocimiento al cristianismo, tan ligado a la Historia de España, de occidente y del continente americano, en la que repasa la vida de 80 santos. ¿Dónde se pueden adquirir los juegos y a qué precio?

The curiosity to learn will always exist; what you can do is encourage it. Now, there are lots of resources to delve into any subject. It is important for people to know about their past, to learn from it, and not make mistakes.

Have the youngest generations lost the curiosity to discover history?

Absolutely.Thereisnobetterwaytolearnthanbyhavingfun. Anygamethatcanhelppeopletolearniswelcome...thatishowIgottheideatocreatethesegames,andIhopetheyhelplotsofpeople.

Where can the games be purchases and how much are they?

I don´t know what is meant by “second part”... I am creating new games,butonothertopics. It is impossible not to ask you, in the middle of August and in Sotogrande, about your ties and links to the resort for years. What does it mean for you and your family to enjoy summer in Sotogrande?

Para ampliar horizontes, estoy buscando otras temáticas que puedan ser de interés, para desarrollar. Cuando presento el juego, la gente tiene muchas ideas, que sirven de inspiración. ¿Tendrá una segunda parte? No se a que se reﬁere por “segunda parte”… me encuentro redactando nuevos juegos, pero sobre otros temas. Es imposible no preguntarle, en pleno agosto y en Sotogrande, por sus lazos y vínculos con la urbanización desde hacer años. ¿Qué supone para usted y su familia disfrutar del verano en Sotogrande?

Sotogrande is a fantastic place, where you can do lots of activities, with friends and family. We like polo, golf, tennis, padel, sailing, swimming; also, we might go to concerts, bullﬁghts, visit Malaga or a town, and of course , anywhere with good food. There is also a sentimentalpart,asImetmywifehere,21yearsago. And polo? As someone who loves horses and action sports, I really like polo, both watching it and playing it. I have good friendships and I always havetheitchtoplayitagain.

Sotogrande es un lugar fantástico, donde poder realizar muchas actividades, con amigos y en Familia. Nos gusta el polo, el golf, el tenis, el padel, la vela, nadar; también podemos ir a algún concierto, alguna corrida, de visita a Málaga o algún pueblo, y por supuesto en cualquier sitio se come bien. También hay una parte sentimental, al haber conocido aquí a mi mujer, hace 21 años.

Will it have a second part?

¿Estudia ampliar horizontes y llevar a nuevos formatos digitales este proyecto? Los juegos se podrían hacer digitales, de hecho me lo han propuesto, pero perdería el otro objetivo que busco, que es el de socializar; dejar de estar enganchados a la tecnología y poder pasar un rato con amigos y familiares sin estar concetados a través de una pantalla.

¿Y el polo? Como amante de los caballos y de los deportes de acción, el polo me gusta mucho tanto verlo, como practicarlo. Mantengo buenas amistades y siempre tengo ese gusanillo de volver a practicarlo.

¿Qué le parece Sotogrande como destino de referencia para el polo a nivel continental y su historia? Sotogrande, gracias a su clima y sus instalaciones, es una referencia de polo a nivel mundial. Todo el año se viene practicando este deporte que tanto me gusta, pero en verano es cuando se organizan más campeonatos para todos los niveles, y cuando vienen los mejores polistas del mundo.

What do you think about Sotogrande as a leading destination for polo on a continental level and its history? Sotogrande, thanks to its climate and its facilities, is a benchmark in polo worldwide. The sport I like so much is played throughout the year, but summer is when most championships are organised at all levels,andwhentheworld´sbestpoloplayerscome.

Su ligereza, acidez y notas afrutadas alivian nuestras gargantas, sorprenden nuestros sentidos y acompañan como nadie la gastronomía propia de estas fechas: pescados, mariscos, arroces. Hablamos de vinos jóvenes, ligeros en boca, de aromas florales, perfectos para servir a baja temperatura –unos ocho o diez grados-. Cumpliendo con todos estos atributos, las bodegas Herederos del Marqués de Riscal disponen de cuatro magníficos vinos capaces de maridar frescor y calidad a partes iguales. The peculiarity of this wine -also 100% organic- is that at the end of its fermentation it remains in contact with its fine lees for at least four months. This allows the wine to stay fresh and young for longer. Finca Montico is a greenish yellow wine, with an aroma of fennel, fine herbs, white flowers, pear and peach. In the mouth it is oily, fresh, very unctuous and with a long and well-rounded finish.

Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc 100% Organic Original de la región francesa del Loira, la variedad de uva Sauvignon Blanc es, sin duda, una de elecciones más frescas y deliciosas para los meses de verano. Su nombre proviene de las palabras francesas sauvage -‘salvaje’- y blanc -‘blanca’- y su fermentación da lugar a vinos suaves, ligeros, aromáticos, algo cítricos.

Como toda la gama 100% organic, este vino de Marqués de Riscal es además respetuoso con el medio ambiente. Su elaboración se lleva a cabo siguiendo los parámetros de la agricultura ecológica, con la mínima intervención posible y total respeto al ecosistema.

Finca Montico, verdejo sobre lías La uva verdejo se erige desde hace mucho como una de las principales uvas de calidad blancas en España. Con ella se producen vinos modernos y afrutados como por ejemplo el ‘Finca Montico, verdejo sobre lías’. Se trata de un vino blanco elaborado al 100% con la variedad verdejo procedente de un viñedo de la finca El Montico, en las terrazas del río Duero. La peculiaridad de este vino –también 100% organic- es que al finalizar su fermentación permanece en contacto con sus lías finas durante al menos cuatro meses. Esto permite al vino aguantar fresco y joven durante mayor tiempo. El Finca Montico es un vino de color amarillo verdoso, con aroma a hinojo, finas hierbas, flores blancas, pera y melocotón. En boca es graso, fresco, muy untuoso y con un final largo y redondo.

La variedad Sauvignon Blanc fue introducida con éxito por Marqués de Riscal en 1974. Hoy en día la bodega cuenta con 70 hectáreas de viñedo de esta uva en propiedad y es una de las variedades autorizadas por la Denominación de Origen FrutoRueda.de esta excelente materia prima nace el Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc 100% organic, un vino de color amarillo pálido con reﬂejos verdosos y notas cítricas que recuerdan a la piña o al melón, dejando en boca una sensación fresca y aromática de ﬁnal limpio y persistente.

The Sauvignon Blanc variety was successfully introduced by Marqués de Riscal in 1974. At present, the winery owns 70 hectares of vineyard of this grape and it is one of the varieties authorised by the Rueda Denomination of Origin. The Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc 100% organic is the product of this excellent raw materials, a pale yellow wine with greenish reﬂections and citric notes that are reminiscent of pineapple or melon, leaving a fresh and aromatic sensation in the mouth with a clean and persistent ﬁnish. Like the entire 100% organic range, this Marqués de Riscal wine is also environmentally friendly. Its production is carried out following the parameters of organic farming, with minimal possible intervention and total respect for the ecosystem.

For a long time, the verdejo grape has been one of the main quality white grapes in Spain. It is used to produce modern and fruity wines for example the “‘Finca Montico, verdejo on lees”. Como bien saben los asiduos a la costa de la luz, el mes estrella de este producto es sobre todo mayo. Es entonces cuando arranca la temporada del ronqueo o despiece del atún en las almadrabas de Barbate, Conil, Tarifa o Zahara de los Atunes. Sin embargo, hoy es posible degustar auténticos manjares durante cualquier mes del año y en todo tipo de preparaciones –dicen los que saben que hay más de doscientas-, partiendo del atún como base. Ahora, en verano, cuando las playas gaditanas se convierten en destino de turismo gastronómico de primer orden, resulta de lo más habitual ver en cualquier restaurante cómo los platos se tiñen de ese rojo intenso y delicado tan característico del atún. Es, sin duda, uno de los productos estrella. Pero, si ya de por sí los gaditanos cocinan el atún como nadie, imaginen cómo debe ser probar este producto de excepción en los mayores templos del atún de la provincia. cuya fama le antecede desde hace muchos años. Hablamos, por supuesto, de El Campero, en Barbate. Lugar de peregrinación obligado para los amantes del atún rojo de almadraba, el nombre y popularidad de este establecimiento sobrepasa nuestras fronteras. Y es que solo ellos pueden presumir de ser el primer espacio gastronómico del mundo dedicado al atún rojo.

Now, in summer, when the beaches of Cadiz became a first-rate gastronomic tourism destination, it is very common to see in any restaurant how the dishes are that intense and delicate red colour which is so characteristic of the tuna. Undoubtedly, it is one of the star products. However, if the people of Cadiz cook tuna like nowhere else, imagine what it must be like to try this exceptional product in the greatest temples of tuna in the province. Fortunately, the list is as long as it is appealing. We begin with a restaurant whose fame has preceded it for many years. We are of course talking about El Campero, in Barbate. Awarded a Repsol Guide sun in 2021, Yoko uses bluefin tuna as a crucial ingredient in its menu to create dishes in the purest Eastern style. Japanese cuisine with touches of Cadiz that includes exquisite delicacies such as grilled bluefin tuna back cheek (Parpatana) coated in a special Teriyaki sauce.

En El Campero es posible degustar el atún en infinitos cortes y preparaciones: carpaccio de paladar, sashimi de ventresca, parpatana asada, ceviche de lomo, chuletón de atún, morrillo en escabeche. Además del menú degustación, la carta cambia cada año, manteniendo –eso, sí- su materia prima fundamental. En un ambiente algo menos formal pero con el mismo respeto por el producto, los mismos dueños montaron en Zahara de los Atunes La Taberna del Campero, cuya seña de identidad consiste en la fusión entre la tradición marinera de la zona y las nuevas tendencias en Singastronomía.salirde Barbate, otros dos lugares que, desde luego, merecen una visita son los restaurantes Yoko y Variopinto. Premiado con un sol de la Guía Repsol en 2021, Yoko utiliza el atún rojo como pieza fundamental de su carta para hacer preparaciones al más puro estilo de Oriente. Cocina japonesa con dejes gaditanos que incluye exquisiteces como la parpatana de atún rojo a la brasa recubierta de una salsa especial teriyaki. Por su parte, Variopinto, situado en pleno Paseo Marítimo de Barbate, ha sabido aprovechar las partes más deliciosas del atún para hacer preparaciones realmente especiales como el mormo con crema de trufa y foie especiado, el surtido de salazones o el tarantelo con alioli de membrillo y cebolla Yadulce.en Zahara de los Atunes, uno de los grandes referentes para comer atún rojo es el Restaurante Antonio. Reconocido también por la Guía Repsol, desde los años 80 prometen en su carta preparar el atún rojo de más de 15 formas. Premiado hasta en siete ocasiones en la prestigiosa Ruta del Atún de Zahara, uno de sus platos más señalados es el atún mechado. Una delicia difícil de olvidar. Con un toque más arriesgado y contemporáneo se presentan también en Zahara los responsables del restaurante Salvaje, ganadores de la Ruta del Atún 2022 con su propuesta: “Humita de Facera”. Situado en una antigua fundición, su carta gira en torno a la cocina fusión y a las mezclas sorprendentes como su tartar de atún salvaje y vaca vieja. Toda una experiencia. Llegando al Palmar nos encontramos con otro imprescindible: Casa Juan. A los pies de la misma playa, conjuga en su carta recetas con puro sabor andaluz, como el atún encebollao, con guiños norteños, como el marmitako de atún rojo. Si vienen, no dejen de probar otras especialidades como la pastela de atún marino o el milhojas de morrillo. At El Campero it is possible to savour tuna in endless cuts and dishes: carpaccio of palate, sashimi of belly, roast back cheek, ceviche of loin, tuna steak, morrillo (cut from behind head) in pickle. As well as the tasting menu, the menu changes every year, maintaining -of course- its crucial raw ingredient. Without leaving Barbate, another two places that are of course worth visiting are the restaurants Yoko and Variopinto.

With a riskier and more contemporary touch, also present in Zahara are the management of the restaurant Salvaje, winners of the 2022 Tuna Route with their proposal: “Tamale of Tuna Cheek”. Located on an old foundry, its menu revolves around fusion cuisine and surprising mixes such as its tartar of wild tuna and aged beef. A real experience.

It has been recognised seven times on the prestigious Tuna Route of Zahara, one of its most outstanding dishes is the stuffed tuna. A delicacy that is difficult to forget.

In Conil, which also has its popular Tuna Routes, visiting El Roqueo is a must. Its kitchens surrender to the majesty of bluefin tuna whether prepared raw, grilled or cooked over embers. The recommended dishes include the tartar, flank marinated in salt and oil and the spicy tuna in onion.

Lastly, on this route we could not forget to mention the greatest temple of the sea, not only in Cadiz, but in the entire country. We are talking about Aponiente by Ángel León. Only he and his team could do something totally different with bluefin tuna. Solo para abrir boca, lean algunas de sus propuestas: pinchitos morunos de atún con cuscús marroquí, atún rojo a la Roteña, croquetas de atún con mahonesa de tinta de calamar, lagrimitas de atún con mostaza, miel y wok de verduras al teriyaki. Por último no podíamos dejar de mencionar en esta ruta al más grande templo del mar, no solo de Cádiz, sino de todo el país. Hablamos de Aponiente de Ángel León. Solo él y su equipo podían hacer del atún rojo algo totalmente diferente. Lo llaman el “Jamón del mar”, una ventresca de atún que se asemeja en su forma, textura y corte al jamón ibérico y que se suma a la gran variedad de 'chacinas' de mar que elabora desde hace años este ingenioso cocinero. Una forma distinta de probar el atún rojo, animal que de algún modo guarda cierto parecido con el cerdo. Al fin y al cabo de ambos se aprovecha absolutamente todo.

En Conil, donde también cuentan con sus populares Rutas del Atún, hay que pasar sí o sí por El Roqueo. Sus fogones se rinden ante la majestuosidad del atún rojo ya sea preparado en crudo, a la plancha o a la brasa. Entre los recomendados, el tartar, la ijada macerada en sal y aceite o el atún encebollao Otrapicante.opción segura en Conil es el restaurante Francisco Fontanilla, lugar con solera fundado en 1964. Buena fama tiene su surtido de crudos -carpaccio de lomo, tataki, tritartar (descargamento, toro y tarantelo)-, pero también otros platos más curiosos como el atún picante con chocolate o los daditos de atún con trufa.

Un verano más, todos los focos de este selecto deporte apunta hacia la urbanización con la celebración del 51º Torneo Internacional de Polo. Por segundo año con la gestión de Ayala Polo Club, el Grand Slam reúne a más de 20 organizaciones de primer nivel y algunas de las máximas estrellas internacionales.

Regresa la emoción, el deporte de máxima competitividad, el glamour de los palcos y gradas al caer la tarde, vuelve un verano más el polo a Sotogrande. La 51º edición del Torneo Internacional de Polo en Sotogrande, enmarcado en la categoría de Grand Slam, se celebra desde el 25 de julio hasta 27 de agosto y cuenta con la presencia de más de 20 equipos y algunos de los mejores jugadores de mundo del taco y la bocha tales como Pablo Pieres y los hermanos Castagnola. La de 2022 será una de las ediciones más internacionales de la historia con equipos y jugadores llegados desde distintas partes del mundo. Así habrá representación de Brunei, Palestina, Reino Unido, Estados Unidos, Argentina, Suiza, Francia y España. Los partidos se disputarán tanto en las canchas de Ayala Polo Club como en las de Los Pinos. El acceso a las mismas será gratuito y se pondrán en liza las Copas de Bronce, Plata y Oro en bajo (4-6 goles), mediano (8-12) y alto hándicap (18-20) En esta zona además se ubicará el village comercial, con las primeras marcas de distintos ámbitos representadas y que se convertirán en una cita ineludible para las tardes del verano. Excitement is back, the most competitive sport, the glamour of the boxes and stands as evening galls, once again this summer polo is back in Sotogrande. The 51st edition of the International Polo Tournament in Sotogrande, part of the Grand Slam category, is taking place from 25 July until 27 August and it involves the presence of more than 20 teams and some of the best players from the world of the polo stick and ball such as Pablo Pieres and the Castagnola brothers. 2022 will be one of the most international editions of all time with teams and players coming from di erent parts of the world. Thus, Brunei, Palestine, the United Kingdom, the United States, Argentia, Switzerland, France and Spain will be represented. The matches will take place on both the pitches of Ayala Polo Club and those of Los Pinos. Access to them will be free and Bronze, Silver and Gold Cup will be up for grabs in the low (4-6 goals), medium (8-12) and high (18-20) handicap categories. This area will also house the shopping village, with leading brands from di erent sectors represented and they will become an unmissable event for summer evenings. Activity, both sporting and social, will be exciting over a month.

· Hello Javier, a pleasure to have you in our magazine again, it is always a privilege to discover more about Real Club Valderrama. A year has just passed since you announced the big lake project to optimise resources at the club and increase the sustainability policy. Something that is now a complete reality. What impact did it have on the Club? The impact has been immediate. Our main objective was to guarantee the supply of quality water during the hot summer months. The impact has been extremely positive because we have been able to use those reserves to keep the course at top level despite the very high temperatures. In general terms, I would say this investment makes the course more sustainable, from an environmental and financial perspective. I believe all golf courses have the obligation to implement measures that will contribute to accumulating rain water and using it for irrigation.

· All of this coincides with the ﬂagship policy that the club has had for years of moving towards a completely sustainable and environmentally friendly maintenance system. You are carrying out other actions in that regard.

· Muy buenas Javier, un placer tenerte una vez más en nuestra revista, siempre es un privilegio descubrir más detalles del Real Club Valderrama. Ahora se cumple justo un año desde que nos avanzasteis ese gran proyecto del lago para optimizar recursos en el club e incrementar la política en sostenibilidad. Algo que hoy ya es toda una realidad. ¿Qué impacto ha supuesto para el Club? Se puede decir que el impacto ha sido inmediato. Nuestro objetivo principal era garantizar el suministro de agua de calidad durante los meses de verano. En este sentido, el impacto ha sido muy positivo porque hemos podido tirar de esas reservas para mantener el campo al nivel de habitual a pesar de las altas temperaturas. En líneas generales, creo que es una inversión que contribuye a que el campo sea más sostenible, desde el punto de vista medioambiental y económico. Creo que es una obligación de todos los campos tomar medidas que contribuyan a la sostenibilidad medio-ambiental. Debemos hacer las inversiones necesarias para que podamos acumular más agua de lluvia y reutilizarla como agua para el riego. · Todo esto coincide con política que desde hace años lleva como bandera el club de caminar hacia un sistema de mantenimiento completamente sostenible y respetuoso con el medio ambiente. Estáis llevando a cabo otras actuaciones en ese sentido. Muchísimas, te puedo poner varios ejemplos. Estamos ya experimentando con maquinaria híbrida, incluso con maquinaria con GPS, para optimizar el consumo de combustible. Yo creo que esto es una realidad que en los próximos diez años va a ocurrir en todos los campos de golf, el uso de maquinaria eléctrica. En el tema de productos químicos también llevamos años experimentando, paulatinamente hemos ido reduciendo en todo lo posible el uso de estos productos para sustituirlos por otros orgánicos, más naturales. La verdad es que estamos teniendo resultados muy buenos y vamos a seguir en esta línea durante los próximos años, creemos que ese es el camino.

· Estamos a pocas semanas de vivir un nuevo Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters. ¿Qué nos puede adelantar sobre el torneo? En el campo no vamos a hacer grandes cambios respecto al año pasado.. Para nosotros lo más importante ahora mismo es aglutinar un grupo de buenos jugadores. Todos sabemos ahora que el mundo del golf está en una situación complicada, toda la revolución que hay con el LIV, el dinero que están aportando los Saudís, lógicamente ha producido que haya una disrupción en la manera habitual de operar de los circuitos. Creo que no se puede ignorar que esto es un problema que hay que resolver. Ahora mismo nosotros estamos trabajando con el European Tour para hacer el mejor torneo posible y sobre todo estamos trabajando para el futuro, para ver qué tipo de torneo va a ser y cómo encaja en el nuevo escenario. La premisa fundamental de Valderrama es buscar la excelencia, que se nos asocie con un gran evento, tendremos que analizar si las opciones que nos da el European Tour son las que nos gustan. Como club privado, muy consolidado, no tenemos la necesidad de albergar un torneo todos los años.

· Acaba de salir ahora un nuevo ranking de los mejores campos del mundo y estáis todavía mejor posicionados ¿Cuál es el secreto? A los ranking hay que darles la importancia que tienen, al final no dejan de ser la opinión de un grupo de periodistas más o menos expertos. Recientemente, es cierto, se ha publicado el ranking de Golf Digest. Hace cinco o seis años estábamos en el puesto 70 del mundo, en este último ranking estamos en el puesto 29. Es una buena noticia, desde luego. Para mí significa que Valderrama tiene relevancia en el sector, que el sector valora la apuesta que hemos hecho por nuestras instalaciones, por mejorar, por hacer retoques en el diseño del campo, en la jugabilidad. Creo que el torneo también tiene un impacto en el hecho de que la marca Valderrama sea más conocida, que tenga más trascendencia. Al final es una suma de factores en la que, por supuesto, el más importante es el mantenimiento.

· We are a few weeks away from enjoying another Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters at Valderrama. What can you announce about the tournament? We are not going to make major changes to the course. The most important goal for us is to put together a great field of top players.. We all know that professional golf is in a difficult situation, the revolution with LIV, the prize funds that the Saudis are bringing to the game, logically, have caused disruption to the way that the Tours normally operate. I think that we cannot ignorethatthisisaproblemthatneedstoberesolvedsoon.Rightnow,weareworkingwiththeEuropeanTourtohavethebestpossibletournamentandaboveall,weareworkingforthefuture,toseewhattypeoftournamentwearegoingtohostinthecomingyears and how it fits into the new scene. The fundamental premise of Valderrama is to pursue excellence, to be associated with a great event, we will have to analyse if the options that the European Tour provides are the ones that we are aligned with. Aunque hace poco, por su extraordinario impacto, sí trascendió la visita del ex presidente estadounidense Barack Obama. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia? ¿Qué feedback le transmitió sobre el campo?

· Este otoño se cumplirá un cuarto de siglo de la celebración de la Ryder Cup en Valderrama [1997].

¿Planea el club algo especial para conmemorar el aniversario? Yo creo que es una fecha especial, no solo para Valderrama, para todo el golf español. La Ryder Cup de Valderrama fue un antes y un después, puso al golf español en el mapa y fue el inicio del impulso de la Costa del Sol como destino número uno de turismo de Siempregolf.

La experiencia fue peculiar, yo sabía de la visita desde hace un par de meses. La estuvimos preparando con el servicio secreto que lleva la seguridad del ex presidente, conseguimos que no se filtrara hasta última hora. Él estuvo muy cercano en todo momento, muy agradable con todo el staff. Le gustó tanto el campo que no solo jugó 18, sino 27 hoyos. Además, pudo degustar algo de nuestra gastronomía, pasó un día entero aquí con amigos, se lo pasó muy bien y causó una impresión magnífica. Yo creo que este tipo de visitas están bien, crean interés, ha tenido mucha repercusión en los medios. Para nosotros fue una sorpresa, su gabinete fue el que nos llamó y nos dijo expresamente que el ex presidente quería jugar en Valderrama, que tenía muy buenos informes y la verdad es que estuvimos encantados de recibirle.

· Para crecer como torneo, imagino que el apoyo de instituciones y grandes ﬁrmas es la única palanca posible para dar impulso, ofrecer trofeos atractivos y atraer jugadores del circuito americano. Sí, por supuesto. Nosotros siempre hemos tenido un gran apoyo por parte de la Junta de Andalucía. La Consejería de Turismo siempre ha sido parte de nuestro proyecto, tenemos una grandísima colaboración con ellos y estoy seguro de que en los próximos meses, cuando se vaya moldeando el torneo de los próximos años, ellos nos apoyarán porque saben que un evento así le da una gran visibilidad a la marca Andalucía, sobre todo asociada a un campo que tiene renombre mundial. Creo que es bueno para Andalucía, para todos. Y por supuesto, para Estrella Damm.

· Estáis haciendo todo lo posible por tener al menos a los mejores jugadores españoles en el torneo… No solo españoles, te diría que de todas las nacionalidades. Pero es obvio que, por ejemplo, contar con alguien como Jon Rahm para cualquier torneo es un espectáculo asegurado, un reclamo para el público, para la televisión. Esperamos que todos nuestros esfuerzos tengan resultado.

Aunque para mí lo más importante de esa Ryder es analizar qué ha pasado después, en los últimos 25 años, porque se han dado casos de campos que han acogido la Ryder Cup y luego no ha habido una progresión, el Club ha dejado de oírse. Albergar una Ryder Cup no le da crédito ilimitado a un club para tener éxito, después hay que trabajar, hay que seguir manteniendo el estándar, porque las expectativas de los socios y visitantes de todo el mundo son muy altas.

It was a great experience for all of us at the Club. I knew about the visit for some month’s and we prepared it with the former President’s secret service team. We did our best to ensure that the visit was not leaked to visitthepress.ItsobviousthathavingMr.Obamaus,generatesgreatinterest,especiallyinthemedia.Ihavetosayitwasasurprise

· In order to grow as a tournament, I imagine that the support of institutions and big brands is the only possible lever to provide momentum, offer appealing trophies and attract players from the American circuit. Yes, of course. We’ve always had great support from the Regional Government of Andalusia. The Department of Tourism has always been part of our project, we have a great collaboration with them and I am certain that over the coming months when the new tournament gradually takes shape, they will support us because they know that such a tournament provides great visibility for the Andalusia brand, especially, when linked to a course that is globally renowned. I think that it is a great marketing action for Andalusia and of course, for Estrella Damm.

· This autumn will mark a quarter of a century since the celebration of the Ryder Cup at Valderrama (1997). Is the club planning something special to commemorate the anniversary?

"You have to strive and work every day to get better, our members and guests have very high expectations when they visit us".

should have: The first Ryder Cup with Tiger Woods, Seve as captain, the first time it had left the British Isles, Europe winning…the atmosphere of the event was spectacular. However, for me, the most important thing about that Ryder Cup is analysing what happened afterwards, over the last 25 years, because there have been golf courses that have hosted the Ryder Club and then had issues and lost relevancy. Hosting a Ryder Cup does not give a club unlimited credit to be successful, you then have to work at it, you have to keep raising the standards, because our members and guests have very high expectations.

· You are doing everything possible to at least have the best Spanish players at the tournament... Not only Spaniards, I would say all nationalities. It is obvious that having someone like Jon Rahm for any tournament is a great attraction for the crowd and for television viewers. We hope that all our efforts will bear fruits.

Creo que este objetivo estratégico tan ambicioso ha sido clave para que el Club goce de excelente salud en estos momentos. Los socios son ahora propietarios, eligen su futuro, deciden las inversiones y son los que marcan la política a seguir. Mi opinión es que esto ha sido un gran éxito del Presidente y de toda la Junta y yo he tenido el privilegio de vivir esta transformación muy de cerca.

El fin principal del Real Club Valderrama es servir a los socios, es nuestra prioridad número uno, hacer todo lo posible para que estén contentos y a gusto. Para mantener ese nivel, uno siempre tiene que cuestionarse si lo puede hacer mejor. Si nos cuestionamos constantemente en aras de mejorar, estoy seguro de que seguiremos estando a la altura.

· In fact, it could be said that you are now the inspiration for the other courses in the destination. I believe that really good things have happened in recent years in the Sotogrande area. All the clubs have invested in their product, in improving the golf course, the service, management has been professionalised, the standards are much higher than a few years ago. All of this has made Sotogrande a prime destination for golf. The best golfing experiences, not only in Spain, I would say in Europe, are here. There is no destination in Europe that can bring together courses of this quality in such a small area. This has probably been influenced by the fact that we have set the bar very high, we have always strived to get better and obviously the others have done the same.

· De hecho, se podría decir que hoy sois la inspiración para el resto de campos del destino. Yo creo que han ocurrido cosas muy positivas en los últimos años en esta zona de Sotogrande. Todos los clubes han invertido en su producto, en mejorar detalles del campo, el servicio, se ha profesionalizado la gestión, los estándares son mucho más altos que hace unos años. Todo eso ha contribuido a que Sotogrande se haya convertido en un destino ‘prime’ de golf. Las mejores experiencias de golf, no solamente de España, te diría de Europa, están en esta zona. No hay en Europa un destino que pueda unir a campos de esta calidad en un espacio tan pequeño. Probablemente ha influido el hecho de que nosotros hemos puesto el listón muy alto, hemos peleado por mejorar y los demás han hecho lo mismo.

· Probably, the best tribute and legacy today is keeping Valderrama at the highest level. When the Visconde of Pereira Machado took over the Presidency of the Club in 2011, his vision for the future was that Valderrama should be known for much more than the Ryder Cup. We had the obligation to raise the standards of maintenance and service, we also had the obligation to offer our members and guests a unique World classgolfexperience.Ithinkthisstrategicgoal

Teníamos la obligación de seguir mejorando los estándares de mantenimiento y de servicio, teníamos la obligación de ofrecer a los socios y visitantes una experiencia de golf única en el mundo.

· The key to Valderrama is never being satisﬁed...

The main goal of Real Club Valderrama is to serve its members, it is our number one priority. Doing everything possible to ensure they are happy and that they enjoy every minute at the Club. To maintain that level, you also have to question if you can do things better. If we constantly question ourselves in order to improve, I am certain that we will continue to rise to the task.

Dos años hubo que esperar para que el mejor golf volviera a la catedral del golf, a la cuna de nuestro deporte, donde cinco siglos atrás ya estaba documentada la práctica del golf en lo que hoy se conoce como el Old Course de Saint Andrews. El 150 cumpleaños de The Open Championship conocido en el pasado como Open Británico, generó una gran expectación y casi un año antes de la celebración del evento resultaba imposible conseguir una sola entrada. We had to wait two years for the best golf to return to the cathedral of golf, to the birthplace of our sport, where five centuries ago the practice of golf was already documented on what is now known as the Old Course at Saint Andrews. No pasará a la historia la actuación del golf español y Jon Rahm fue nuestro mejor representante finalizando en el puesto 34. Aún así, entre los cientos de españoles que viajaron hasta Escocia, no quisieron perderse el evento caras conocidas como el exjugador de los Lakers Pau Gasol o los chefs Karlos Arguiñaño o Dani García, que debutaba por primera vez en un torneo del gran slam de golf. “Estoy acostumbrado a verlo por la tele, pero estar en directo es una cosa totalmente diferente, es impresionante”, afirmaba uno de los malagueños más universales con más de veinte restaurantes por todo el Vivirmundo.Saint Andrews durante la semana de un Open es una experiencia casi mística para un aficionado a este deporte. Una parte del campo está literalmente dentro del pueblo, entre sus casas. During the walk, you could find Dustin Johnson in the queue for fish & chips or Joaco Niemann with his girlfriend on a stroll at night along the Old Course, on the eve of the final day. Almost three hundred thousand people packed Saint Andrews over the course of the historic week of the Open, and many Spaniards didn´t´want to miss the chance to encourage Jon Rahm, Sergio García, Pablo Larrazábal and Adri Arnaus. No deja de resultar una gran noticia en los tenebrosos tiempos que corren para la cultura la supervivencia de eventos como la Semana Internacional de Cine Fantástico de la Costa del Sol, liderada un año más por su director Julio Peces y los miembros de la Asociación Cultural Unicornio. Como cada año, el certamen tendrá su sede matriz en Estepona pero también contará con actividades programadas en Benahavís, San Pedro de Alcántara (Marbella) e incluso Málaga capital. Antes de desgranar su jugosa programación cinematográfica, sorprende en esta nueva edición la nómina de homenajeados por el festival, una lista de premios que incluye el Unicornio de honor para Alicia Borrachero, actriz popular por infinidad de series televisivas españolas que también se ha dejado ver en superproducciones norteamericanas como Las crónicas de Narnia: El príncipe Caspian o Terminator: Destino oscuro. El Premio Especial del Jurado 2022 será para otro rostro habitual de la pequeña pantalla, Pedro Casablanc, actor de carácter de dilatada trayectoria en ficciones televisivas tan exitosas y recordadas como Policías, en el corazón de la calle, El comisario o Compañeros, y que cuenta con una filmografía cinematográfica en la que últimamente han destacado films como El guardián invisible o Superlópez. Este año también se otorgará un galardón conmemorativo en homenaje a los 20 años del inicio de la saga cinematográfica de Harry Potter que recogerá el actor y técnico de efectos especiales británico Trevor Butterfield. También se otorgará la medalla de la Fundación Lumière 2022 al actor italiano Cosimo Fusco, últimamente visto en trabajos de Álex de la Iglesia como 30 monedas o Veneciafrenia, y al que los más nostálgicos recordarán por un pequeño papel como novio italiano de Rachel en la mítica sitcom Friends.

One of the big events of the festival is the commemorative publication This is a Disaster, where Julio Peces Ruiz has produced twenty articles on the most emblematic films in the disaster subgenre, beginning with San Francisco (1936) and finishing his journey with the recent Don´t Look Up (2021). The book has many (marvellous) illustrations by Manuel Bejarano, which can be enjoyed at an exhibition of the same name (along with more material on the genre) that can be viewed from 1 to 15 September at the Exhibition Hall of the Cultural and Youth Centre at the Plaza de la Libertad de San Pedro de Alcántara, and in Malaga from 1 to 20 September at the Comic Store. The festival, 20 years with Harry Potter, will take place from 4 to 10 September in the Felipe VI auditorium in Estepona and it is an unmissable event for all fans of the adaptations of the universe created by J. K. Rowling. One of the greatest attractions of this edition, and something that the festival organisers had not yet dared to do (strange for an event that has held a boxing match between a film director and one of his haters) is the release of an album.
