ué ganas teníamos de abrir las ventanas y dejar entrar el verano en la redacción de La Revista de Sotogrande! Es nuestra época favorita del calendario. Poco a poco, vais llegando los amigos de siempre. Son días de reencuentros; de largas charlas tumbados en la hamaca del club de playa; de noches de risas y mojitos en alguno de los chiringuitos..., es momento de disfrutar de la vida. De exprimir al máximo cada minuto porque, como ya sabéis, el tiempo vuela. Para recibiros como os merecéis, hemos preparado una edición que grita: ¡vive el verano! Una revista cargada de

mar, de sol, de ganas de Sotogrande. Como en cada número, os damos la bienvenida recordando la historia de Sotogrande. En esta ocasión, hemos buceado en los archivos veraniegos, para darnos un baño en aquellas vacaciones del pasado. La vela ocupa, en esta ocasión, un lugar privilegiado. Sotogrande ha sido, recientemente, escenario del Campeonato del Mundo de Vela RC44. Los llamados fórmula 1 del mar han ofrecido un espectáculo sublime y unas imágenes de infarto. La moda llega cargada de propuestas de baño; de ideas para los más peques de la casa, y de una interesante entrevista al

modisto sevillano Manolo Giraldo. Como en cada edición, nos escapamos por Cádiz, en busca de las imágenes más bonitas de esta espectacular tierra. Hacemos, asimismo, las maletas para perdernos durante unos días lejos de todo. Tailandia nos sorprende y os lo descubrimos en un interesante reportaje. Nos colamos, además, en la cocina de Kabuki Raw, en Finca Cortesín, para disfrutar de la buena mesa del estrella Michelín Luis Olarra. ow we long to open the windows and let summer into the newsroom of Sotogrande Magazine! This i sour favourite time of the year. Little by little, old friends arrive. These days are about reunions; long chats laying down in the hammock of the beach club; nights of laughter and mojitos in one of the beach bars…, it is a time for enjoying life. It is about squeezing the most out of every minute, because as you already know, time flies. In order to welcome you as you deserve, we have prepared an edition that shouts out: long live summer! This is a magazine packed with sea, sun, and a longing for Sotogrande.

As with every issue, we welcome you by remembering the history of Sotogrande. On this occasion, we have dived into the summer archives, in order to bathe in the holidays of yesteryear. This time, sailing has a privileged place. Sotogrande was recently the setting for the RC44 World Sailing Championship. The socalled “Formula 1 cars of the sea” offered a sublime spectacle and heartstopping images. Do not miss out on our report. Fashion has arrived filled with bathing options; ideas for the youngest children at home, and an interesting interview with the Sevillian fashion designer Manolo Giraldo.

l verano siempre ocupará un lugar privilegiado en Sotogrande. Desde su fundación, en 1962, hasta nuestros días, el gran libro de la urbanización está copado de capítulos inolvidables sucedidos en los meses de estío. Recuerdos, que la cámara del entrañable Doro Plana capturó para formar el gran legado gráfico con el que Grupo HCP narra, poco a poco, la historia de Sotogrande... Sotogrande fue el sueño hecho realidad del visionario americano Joseph McMicking, quien quiso

crear un lugar idílico donde un selecto grupo de familias pudiera disfrutar de la vida y ser feliz. Aunque la urbanización latía durante todo el año, era al llegar el verano cuando lo hacía con más fuerza, algo que, aún en la actualidad, sigue pasando. Aquellos que durante el año estaban lejos acudían, puntuales, a su querida urbanización al llegar las vacaciones, y los días, con sus noches, se tornaban eternas e inolvidables.

Para los más pequeños, Sotogrande era castillos en la arena, fiestas en las villas, olimpiadas en el mítico Club de Playa El Cucurcho... Para los jóvenes, el verano en la urbanización era tiempo de nuevas vivencias, de aventuras, de risas en las ginkanas, de obras de teatro, de disfraces...Para todos, en general, los meses de vacaciones eran tardes de polo; mañanas de vela en la Playa de los Catamaranes; golf entre amigos, cenas en casa... Vivencias para el recuerdo bajo el sol (y la luna) de Sotogrande.n

These are memories that the camera of the lovely Doro Plana captured in order to form the great visual legacy that Grupo HCP is using to narrate, little by little, the history of Sotogrande… Sotogrande was the dream turned into reality of the American visionary Joseph McMicking, who wanted to create an idyllic place where a select group of families could enjoy life and be happy. Although the resort was full of life throughout the year, it was summer when it was at its strongest, something that, continues to happen, event at present. People that lived far from Sotogrande during the year, would arrive promptly to their beloved resort

For everyone, in general, the holiday months were about polo evenings; mornings of sailing at Playa de los Catamaranes; golf between friends, dinners at home…. El Campeonato del Mundo de la Clase RC44 concentró en la Marina de Sotogrande durante más de una semana a varios de los más importantes regatistas del escaparate internacional. Una impresionante flota, en busca del cetro de una de las categorías más espectaculares que existen en el panorama de la vela. El equipo eslovaco ‘Ceeref ’, liderado por Igor Lah y Adrian Stead, resolvió con pericia una complicada semana en el campo de regatas de Sotogrande y se impuso en una apasionante regata llena de desafíos.

La celebración del Campeonato del Mundo de Vela de Clase RC44 marcó uno de los grandes hitos del calendario 2016 en Sotogrande. Un evento de calado internacional que logró reunir durante más de una semana, con cinco apasionantes jornadas de competición, a varios de los mejores regatistas del

mundo bajo el gran reto común de convertirse en los máximos dominadores de estos impresionantes barcos: los RC44, apodados los ‘Fórmula-1 del mar’. Gran éxito. La Marina de Sotogrande acogió uno de los eventos deportivos náuticos más importantes del panorama internacional, con estas imponentes embarcaciones de fibra de carbono capaces de ‘volar’, literalmente, sobre las aguas del campo de regatas de Sotogrande. Un espectáculo a la altura de los más importantes destinos náuticos del mundo y que superó con creces, tanto en emoción como en repercusión al ponerse en disputa por primera vez en aguas españolas un Campeonato Mundial de esta clase, la primera visita al sur de Europa de este reconocido circuito de vela, realizada a comienzos del verano de 2014.

Y así fue, con la regularidad como principal arma para cristalizar la victoria final. El conjunto esloveno ‘Ceeref’, con Igor Lah como armador y Adrian Stead en el puesto de táctico, levantó el título mundial gracias a una fantástica semana en la que logró colarse en el podio hasta en ocho ocasiones de las trece mangas que se disputaron durante la regata. Merecido campeonato aunque sellado por un resultado muy ajustado. Tan sólo fueron capaces de distanciarse en tres puntos de los subcampeones, los locales del ‘Península Petroleum’, liderados por uno de los grandes conocidos de la vela en Sotogrande: John Bassadone.

La tripulación del ‘Península Petroleum’, tras una regata de muchos quilates, finalizó en segunda posición después de un intenso duelo con el barco esloveno. Disputa que mantuvo en vilo el desenlace final hasta el último suspiro. Gran papel de esta tripulación, pese a contar con la presión añadida de competir en ‘casa’, ya que muchos de sus regatistas compiten de manera habitual durante los circuitos de vela que se celebran en Sotogrande en los meses de otoño e invierno. El tercer puesto del cajón lo ocuparon los suecos del ‘Artemis Racing’. Todo un espectáculo que los aficionados a la vela pudieron disfrutar tanto desde tierra, prácticamente desde cualquier punto de la costa en la zona se podía divisar el desarrollo de cada una de las regatas, como en pleno centro de la competición. La habilitación de barcos ‘hospitality’, a disposición del público durante cada jornada, así como barcos de apoyo y embarcaciones facilitadas por parte de patrocinadores y colaboradores, brindaron a los amantes del deporte náutico la posibilidad de sentir la emo-

A finales del próximo mes de junio, concretamente del 25 de junio al 2 de julio, la Marina de Sotogrande acogerá la celebración del Campeonato del Mundo de J80. También, al igual que el Mundial RC44, organizado por Club Náutico Bevelle, en colaboración con otras entidades del entorno como Ayuntamiento de San Roque, Diputación Provincial de Cádiz, Puerto de Sotogrande o Quirónsalud Campo de Gibraltar, en el staff médico. Durante una intensa semana de competición, con la disputa de un total de 15 mangas, más de medio centenar de monotipos J80 llegados desde Francia, Noruega, Italia o España, entre otras procedencias, se batirán en el campo de regatas de Sotogrande por el título del mundo de esta popular clase. En el apartado nacional, las flotas andaluza, canaria y catalana, parten como las principales opciones para que el trofeo se quede en ‘casa’. Un punto y seguido a la emoción de la vela en Sotogrande que este año brilla de manera especial al convertirse en el escenario, nada menos, que de dos campeonatos mundiales.n

The World Championship of the RC44 Class brought together several of the most important regatta sailors from the world stage in Sotogrande Marina for more than a week. There was an impressive fleet, in search of the crown of one of the most spectacular categories that exist within the world of sailing. The Slovakian team “Ceeref ” led by Igor Lah and Adrian Stead, expertly overcame a difficult week among the field of regatta competitors in Sotogrande and won an impressive regatta full of challenges.

The holding of the RC44 Class World Sailing Championship was one of the big milestones on the 2016 Sotogrande calendar. It was an event of international significance; over the course of more than a week, with five exciting days of competition, it managed to bring together several of the best sailors in the world with the great shared challenge of becoming the overall conquerors of these

impressive vessels: the RC44, nicknamed the “Formula 1 of the sea”. It was a great success. Sotogrande Marina hosted one of the most important sailing events on the international scene, with these stunning carbon fibre vessels capable of literally “flying” above the waves of racing zone in Sotogrande. This spectacle measures up next to the most important sailing destinations in the world. Also, as this was the first time a World Championship of this Class was being held in Sotogrande, the event easily surpassed the first visit of this renowned sailing class to the south of Europe, at the start of summer 2014, in terms of excitement and impact. The week got off to a difficult start for the sailors, with somewhat unstable weather and the rain taking centre stage, however ahead of the final stage of the competition, Sotogrande shone especially with the light that is routine around this period of the year, providing enjoyment for crew members and fans alike, with heart stopping final regattas to decide the winner of the event. That was the case, with consistency serving as the key asset in order to seal the final victory. The Slovenian team “Ceeref” owned by Igor Lah, and with Adrian Stead in the tactical role, lifted the world title thanks to a fantastic performance, managing a total of eight podium finishes from thirteen heats that took place during the regatta.

The championship was well deserved although sealed with a very close result. The runners-up finished only three points behind, they were the home team “Península Petroleum”, led by one of the big figures from sailing in Sotogrande: John Bassadone. Following a top quality regatta, the “Península Petroleum” side finished in second place after an intense duel with the Slovenian vessel. The battle meant that the end was tense right up until the last breath. This crew put in a great performance despite having the added pressure of competing at “home”, as many of its sailors compete regularly during the sailing circuits that are held in Sotogrande during the autumn and winter months. Third place on the podium went to the Swedish side “Artemis Racing”. This was a real spectacle that sailing fans could enjoy from dry land, practically anywhere on the coastline in the area it was possible to keep track of the action of each boat, as well as at the heart of the competition. Hospitality vessels were made available to spectators each day, and there were also support boats and vessels provided by sponsors and collaborators. This provided lovers of sailing with the chance to experience the emotion of the regattas from up close. Also, RC44 have a unique feature. They possess a predetermined space where a “Ninth crew member” can be placed; this is a strategic position within the vessel itself where it is pos-

sible to experience first-hand the sensations of an elite level sailor. This was a brilliant regatta that once again made Sotogrande the centre of attention on the international sailing stage and once again positioned this destination as one of the most sought after when it comes to holding big events linked to sailing and sports tourism. However, the RC44 World Championship does not mark the end of high quality sailing events in Sotogrande this summer, it was merely an appetiser. At the end of June, specifically from 25 June to 2 July, Sotogrande Marina will host the J80 World Championship. It too, just like the RC44 World Championship is organised by Club Naútico Bevelle, in collaboration with other entities in the area such as the Council of San Roque, Provincial Government of Cadiz, Sotogrande Port and medical staff from Quirónsalud Campo de Gibraltar Hospital. Over the course of an intense week of competition, with a total of 15 heats held, more than fifty J80 monotypes from France, Norway, Italy and Spain, as well as other countries, will battle it out in the Sotogrande race course for the world title of this popular class. In terms of Spanish competitors, the Andalusian, Canary and Catalan racers, are the best shots of keeping the trophy at “home” in Spain. This is a follow-on to the excitement of sailing in Sotogrande, which has shone especially bright this year, as the setting for no less than two world championships. n

Un jardín de fantasía creado por el paisajista Fran Cisneros sirve de escenario a unos vestidos únicos, llenos de detalles, donde se mezclan texturas y bordados artesanales. Sus influencias son claras: bebe de los clásicos, en especial de Balenciaga, y busca la excelencia en la costura. Hace dos años, después de su exitoso paso por la pasarela de moda nupcial SIQ Sevilla Handcraft & Fashion, decidió dejar de presentar colecciones para dedicarse en exclusiva a sus clientas. Y así, dando puntadas con hilo, lleva Manolo Giraldo (Sevilla, 1971) más de 25 años, lo que le ha valido un hueco entre los imprescindibles de la moda andaluza.

Mi madre era modista, -aún vive pero ya no cose-, y he convivido con la moda desde pequeño. Iba para militar pero al final pudo más la vocación y estudié Diseño. La formación me parece fundamental para seguir creciendo. Admiro muchísimo al sastre Fernando Rodríguez Ávila, que me ha enseñado conceptos que hoy son parte de mí.

En moda nupcial siempre apuesto por novias cómodas y especiales. Me gusta esa sensación de que parezcan aristócratas y de que se olviden que llevan un vestido. Para esta temporada he rescatado el camisero, que es mi prenda favorita, una prenda muy versátil que da mucho juego. La misma idea busco con las madrinas, que estén cómodas y sean ellas mismas, sin encorsetamientos. T us

Una mujer frágil, inteligente, discreta, que pasa desapercibida y no llama la atención por su belleza. Me gusta lo exquisito y lo exquisito escasea. ¿A quién admiras ? Me gusta mucho Balenciaga y la mujer de Chanel, lo que representa. Como admirador de la alta costura también me fascina Christian Dior y los bordados de Elie Saab. A caban de concederte el premio 'Y o S oy M oda ' al mejor diseñador andaluz , ¿ cómo lo valoras ? Cualquier premio es una satisfacción y siempre te sorprende, sobre todo porque no soy un diseñador mediático, nunca lo he sido ni pretendo serlo. Que valoren tu costura y tu forma de trabajar es un orgullo al tiempo que una responsabilidad porque supone que hay que seguir trabajando y mejorando cada día. ¿Q ué le pides al futuro ? No le pido nada porque yo creo que he nacido para trabajar y mantenerme. Antes pretendía ser famoso, llegar a París… Ahora no. Me quedo en Sevilla, sin duda. His classic and versatile designs have captivated his clientele, who value his dressmaking skills and his natural way of accentuating the beauty of the wearer. Here, we discover the talents of this young Sevillano designer up close.

ntering Manolo Giraldo’s studio in the centre of Seville is like walking into a dreamworld. A fantastical garden created by landscape and set designer Fran Cisneros serves as backdrop to a range of unique dresses, full of detail, combining hand-embroidered elements with materials of different textures. His influences are clear: he has drawn on the classics, especiallywBalenciaga, and strives for excellence in his craft. Two years ago, after a successful show on the SIQ Sevilla Handcraft & Fashion wedding design catwalk, he decided to stop presenting collections and concentrate exclusively on his clients. And so, Manolo Giraldo, born in Seville in 1971, has sewn himself into the very fabric of Andalusian fashion.

How did you start out in fashion? My mother was a dressmaker –she’s still alive, but no longer sews– and I grew up with fashion. I was going to join the military, but I couldn’t deny my true vocation, so I studied Design. Learning is fundamental; it enables you to keep growing. I really admire the tailor, Fernando Rodríguez Ávila, who has taught me concepts that are part of who I am today. Fashion

My last catwalk show was at the SIQ wedding event in 2014, in the Alcázar de Sevilla. It was amazing and I was really happy with the way it was received, but it was also a huge amount of effort. Presenting a collection every year is a lot of work. Now I prefer to make a range of designs and dresses that I really like, without the need for coherence required by a collection.

I see myself as an archetypal, everyday dressmaker. I do everything: the patterns, the cutting, the stitching, the fitting... I have help in the workshop, of course, but I really love what I do. My life is sewing, I enjoy sewing.

For this season, I’ve rescued the shirt-dress, which is my favourite garment, it’s very versatile and there are so many things you can do with it. It’s the same idea for the bridesmaids, being comfortable, being themselves, no corsetry. Y our

I take inspiration from the women I like. A woman who is fragile, intelligent, discreet, a woman who passes by unnoticed and whose beauty doesn’t attract attention. I like exquisiteness, and that is a rare thing. W ho do you admire ? I really like Balenciaga and Chanel’s idea of what women can represent. As an admirer of haute couture, I’m also fascinated by Christian Dior and Elie Saab’s embroidery.

I don’t expect anything because I believe I was born to work and to look after myself. I used to want fame, to go to Paris... Not any more. I’m staying in Seville, no question. Work, deliver the dresses, make the client happy... I’ll keep working towards being the best.n

Las grandes multinacionales del deporte se han lanzado de lleno en este sector, comprando aplicaciones que les posibiliten acceder a un mayor número de usuarios. Tal es el caso de la compra de Endomondo ($85M) y MyFitnessPal ($475M) por Under Armor, Runtastic ($240M) por Adidas, o Runkeeper ($85M) por Asics. Centrémonos, no obstante, en los dispositivos para medir la actividad física realizada, sin duda de uno de los grandes mercados emergentes. Actualmente, podemos encontrar todo tipo de dispositivos para medir o registrar nuestra actividad física o entrenamiento, desde los más simples y baratos a los más caros y complejos. A continuación, vamos a ayudar a seleccionar aquellos monitores de actividad física que mejor se adaptan a las necesidades de cada usuario.

A. Usuarios “No tecnológico - Sedentarios”

• En este grupo incluimos sujetos sedentarios que realizan muy poca actividad física o deporte.

ollowing the International Convention of Professionals from the Fitness Sector -IHRSA in Orlando (United States) and the International Fitness Fair – FIBO in Cologne (Germany) last April, we can highlight the fact that great new products and advances in the health sector are taking place in the new emerging field of technology. New mobile devices for measuring physical activity, advices for measuring body composition, measuring physiological parameters, 3D virtual reality and, of course, apps for all kinds of mobiles and tablets. Large sports multinationals have really launched in this sector, purchasing applications that make it possible for them to access the largest number of users. Such is the case with the purchase of Endomondo ($85M) and MyFitnessPal ($475M) by Under Armor, Runtastic ($240M) by Adidas, and Runkeeper ($85M) by Asics. However, here we are going to focus on devices for measuring physical activity carried out, without doubt one of the big emerging markets. Currently, it is possible to find all kinds of devices for measuring or recording your physical activity or training. They range from the simplest and cheapest to the most expensive and complex. A.“Non-technological – sedentary” Users

Cuando en el resto de Europa suele haber días cortos y faltos de luz, en Sotogrande el clima suave y los días soleados y largos permiten el entrenamiento casi a cualquier hora, lo que supone un plus extraordinario para unas instalaciones de lujo.

DOMA CLÁSICA DE ALTO NIVEL s Finca Dos Lunas es un punto de referencia para los amantes de la Doma Clásica, por ser escenario de importantes competiciones y por contar con un gran equipo que está realizando un gran trabajo en encuentros de carácter nacional e internacional.

Grandioso, explica, para los lectores de La Revista de Sotogrande, su experiencia con el Aquatrainer en Dos Lunas: “Grandioso tuvo que ser operado por un problema en una pata y fue intervenido en el Hospital la Equina por un cirujano que vino expresamente de Inglaterra para tratarlo. Hablando de la rehabilitación y del objetivo de poder llegar perfectos a los J.J.O.O. de Río de Janeiro (agosto), se propuso la utilización de la técnica de Aquatrainer, ya que los caballos pueden trabajar en descarga de peso sin forzar las extremidades, que, en este caso, es lo que el animal tenía recién operado. Por amistad con José María Galafate, veterinario de Dos Lunas, supe que la finca había incorporado este sistema tan pionero y difícil de encontrar, y decidimos tratar a Grandioso. Durante seis semanas, el caballo ha estado en Dos Lunas, recibiendo la mejor atención que se pueda imaginar. Las tres primeras semanas, estuvo caminando y recuperándose de la intervención, y, las otras tres, ha estado recibiendo sesiones diarias de 15 minutos de Aquatrainer con las que hemos apreciado una gran recuperación. Una vez finalizada la terapia, el caballo ha comenzado a ser montado y, estamos convencidos, de que llegará a punto para su cita con Río», comenta el veterinario.

El sistema en cuestión, consiste en hacer caminar al caballo en un tapete rodante similar a las cintas que vemos en los gimnasios, mientras el habitáculo se va llenando de agua. El efecto que esto produce es algo parecido al que se siente al entrar en una playa. Al principio, resulta sencillo, pero, cuando el agua comienza a subir por las rodillas (en el caso del caballo a la altura del corvejón) la resistencia aumenta y se requiere un mayor esfuerzo para poder caminar. Una vez el líquido traspasa esta zona, el peso se descarga y es posible trabajar sin dificultad para el animal. Además de para rehabilitación, José María Galafate comenta que el sistema de Aquatrainer está ideado para potenciar los entrenamientos de los caballos, aportando un plus a sus horas diarias de preparación en el campo. Algo, que está dando muy buenos resultados en los animales del club, que ya gozan de sus sesiones diarias de entrenamiento en el agua. Una novedosa apuesta con la que Anunciada Torras da un paso más en su continuo empeño por dar a los caballo el mejor lugar donde entrenar al más alto nivel, recibir los cuidados que merecen, y ser felices. Algo que no ha hecho más que empezar y sobre lo que, pronto, se tendrán grandes noticias.n

Así, Dos Lunas es, desde hace ya unos años, la sede de importantes concursos CDN*** con muy alta participación. El último, sin ir más lejos, contó con 110 jinetes. Además, la finca es uno de los lugares elegidos por la Real Federación Hípica Española para albergar sus clinics, que se suman a los celebrados por Dos Lunas con nombres de gran prestigio como Bert Rutten o Miguel Jorda. De igual forma, el club posee un gran equipo de competición a nivel nacional e internacional, donde Anunciada Torras compite nivel San Jorge, Intermedia I. En categoría adultos, el equipo cuenta con tres amazonas de diferentes nacionalidades, que compiten a nivel internacional. Jade Ellery, en nivel Junior, de origen británico; Ginevra Michelazzo, en nivel Junior, de origen italiano, y Lida Kiela, en nivel Young Riders, de origen finlandés. El equipo de las instalaciones se completa con otros dos jinetes, Wiwi Wahlström y Anton Wisller, de categoría Adultos. Todos ellos trabajan unidos siguiendo la filosofía del club, que apuesta por fomentar la competición y el trabajo en equipo para lograr la mejor formación y los mayores éxitos deportivos. Algo de lo que se ocupa el entrenador de Dos Lunas, Alfonso Expósito, un gran profesional que la finca pone a disposición de todo aquel jinete que quiera entrenar en sus magníficas instalaciones.

most any time, which is an extraordinary bonus for luxury facilities. It is not surprising therefore that Dos Lunas is the place chosen by the best in order to reach their maximum potential. This is even more the case now that the club has added a new training and rehabilitation technique, named Aquatrainer. This is a unique system in Andalusia and very exclusive in the rest of Europe. It is used to provide the horse with high performance weight-bearing training that provides better results in less time without the anima forcing its limbs or suffering from excessive muscle strain. This is elite training, that has already been tested out at Dos Lunas by one of the best horses

in the country: Grandioso (owned by Kimberly Boyer, and ridden by José Daniel Martín Dockx). It is one of the horses chosen to compete to represent Spain at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer. Federico Nieto León, the vet who works with Grandioso, explains his experience with the Aquatrainer at Dos Lunas for the readers of Sotogrande Magazine: “Grandioso had to have an operation due to a leg problem and was operated on at the Equine Hospital by a surgeon who came from England specifically to treat him. Talking about rehabilitation and the aim of reaching the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games (August) in perfect competition,

CLASSIC DRESSAGE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL s Finca Dos Lunas is a benchmark for people that love Classic Dressage, as it is the setting for important competitions and has a great team that is carrying out great work at national and international events. In this manner, for some years now, Dos Lunas has been the venue for important CDN*** competitions with a very high participation level. The last one, to give just one example, had 110 riders participating. Also, the estate is the venue chosen by the Royal Spanish Riding Association to host its clinics, which come in addition to those held by Dos Lunas with very prestigious names such as Bert Rutten and Miki Jorda. Likewise, the club has a great competition team, both nationally and internationally, where Anunicada Torres competes at St George Level, Intermediate I. In the adult’s category, the team has three female riders of different nationalities that compete at an international level. Jade Ellery, at Junior level from Britain; Ginevra Michelazzo, at junior level, from Italy, and Lida Kiela, at Young Rider level, from Finland. The team from the facilities is completed with another two male riders, Wiwi Wahlström and Anton Wisller, in the Adult’s category. They all work together, following the philosophy of the club, which commits to encouraging competition and team work in order to obtain the best team and the greatest sporting successes. This is something that the Dos Lunas trainer, Alfonso Expósito takes care of, he is a great professional that the Finca makes available to any riders that want to train at its magnificent facilities.

use of the Aquatrainer technique was suggested, as horses can work on weight bearing training without forcing their limbs, which in this case, is what the horse had recently had an operation on. As a result of a friendship with José María Galafate, the vet at Dos Lunas, I found out that the state had incorporated this system which is so pioneering and difficult to find, and we decided to treat Grandioso. During the course of six weeks, the horse was at Dos Lunas, receiving the best care that can be imagined. During the first three weeks, he was walking and recovering from the operations, and during the other three, he was receiving 15 minute daily sessions with Aquatrainer, and we noted a great recovery. Once the

therapy had finished, the horse has begun to be ridden and, we are convinced that he will be in top condition for his date with Rio”, stated the vet. The system in question, consists of making the horse walk on a rolling cover similar to treadmills that you see in gyms, while the chamber slowly starts filling up with water. The effect that this has is something similar to that which you feel entering the water at a beach. At the start is simple, however when the water begins to rise around your knees (in this case the height of the horse’s hock) the resistance increases and greater effort is required in order to walk. Once the liquid goes beyond this area, the weight is taken off and the animal is able to walk without difficulty.

In addition to rehabilitation, José María Galafate states that the Aquatrainer system is designed to strengthen the training of horses, by adding something extra to their daily hours of preparation out in the field. This is something that is providing very good results for the club’s animals, as they now enjoy daily sessions training in water. This is an innovative option that Anunciada Torras is using to take another step forward in her continuous drive to give horses the best place to train at the highest level, receive the care that they deserve, and be happy. This is something that is only getting started, and there will big news about it soon.n

Desde la cima de El Picacho o de El Aljibe se pueden disfrutar unas vistas impresionantes del Parque de los Alcornocales, además de comprobar en primera persona el espectáculo de las nubes en constante movimiento y formación.

Hornos, pajares, corrales para el ganado, molinos, calzadas, trochas, son construcciones de antaño que encontraremos a lo largo de nuestros caminos y que salpican una y otra vez el parque en muchos de sus rincones.

l parque natural de los Alcornocales, uno de los más extensos la península, cuenta con una gran variedad de lugares dignos de visitar. Desde Alcalá de los Gazules, tomando la carretera que nos lleva hasta el puerto de Galis, podremos disfrutar de un agradable paseo que nos lleve hasta la cima de El Aljibe o El Picacho.

Desde allí, disfrutaremos de unas vistas increíbles del Parque a vista de pájaro. Más cerca, a tiro de piedra, podemos ir al embalse del Prior, en Los Barrios. Uno de los humedales de especial interés de la comarca, donde pasar una jornada agradable en contacto directo con la naturaleza. Castellar de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera, el puerto de Ojén,

los bosques de niebla, La Montera, Las Antenas, el Río de la Miel o la Garganta del Capitán, la Senda de los Prisioneros… Tantos lugares. Vivimos rodeados de un entorno natural que tiene difícil comparación. Mil rincones que no acaban y que es nuestra responsabilidad cuidar y conservar para que nunca terminemos de descubrirlos en su totalidad.n

From the summit of El Picacho or El Aljibe, it is possible to enjoy impressive views over Los Alcornocales Natural Park, as well as to enjoy the spectacle of clouds in constant movement and formation.

Furnaces, haystacks, pens for livestock, windmills, causeways, trails… these are all constructions from the past that you will find along your path and which are scattered around the park, in many of its areas.

From there, you will enjoy incredible bird’s eye views over the Park. Closer, a stone’s throw away, you can go to the Prior dam, in Los Barrios. It is one of the wetlands of special interest in the region where you can spend a pleasant day in direct contact with nature. 1. BANGKOK Todo viaje a Tailandia debería comenzar por su capital: Bangkok, o Krung Thep, “la ciudad de los ángeles”, como se conoce entre sus habitantes. Bangkok aguarda al visitante para abrumarlo con el bullicio de una ciudad cosmopolita con más de diez millones de habitantes, y sorprenderlo con la quietud de sus rincones legendarios. Pasado y presente unidos en una perfecta armonía. Cualquier estancia en Bangkok debe incluir, en primer lugar, una visita al Gran Palacio Real. Un conjunto arquitectónico formado por un grupo de edificios, que sirvieron como sede real hasta mediados del siglo XX. El lugar más importante del palacio es el templo Wat Phra Kaew, donde se encuentra el Buda de Esmeralda que, tallado en jade en el siglo XV, y con sólo 45 centímetros de altura, es el más valioso y venerado de Tailandia. Existen, sin embargo, más de 400 templos repartidos por la ciudad. De entre todos, es muy recomendable no perderse el Templo del Amanecer (Wat Arun), especialmente conocido por acoger al enorme Buda Reclinado, una figura con 46 metros de largo y 15 metros de altura. Impresionante. Entre las infinitas atracciones que atesora la capital tailandesa, no hay que olvidar pasear por sus serpenteantes canales (khlongs) y disfrutar del espectáculo visual que regalan sus famosos mercados flotantes. Desde el concurrido mercado de Damnoen, hasta el pequeño mercadillo de Taling Chan. Una de las estampas más auténticas de esta ciudad en la que comprar casi cualquier cosa. Antes de dejar Bangkok, si queda tiempo, será fascinante abandonar el casco histórico y dar una vuelta en el famoso Sky Train (el metro aéreo), con parada, si coincide, en el mercado de fin de semana de Chatuchak. 2. KANCHANABURI: A solo tres horas de la capital, Kanchanaburi es el plan perfecto para una escapada desde Bangkok con la que respirar aire puro. Este lugar es conocido, sobre todo, por el famoso Puente sobre el Río Kwai, escenario de la mítica película sobre la II Guerra Mundial protagonizada por Alec Guinness. En la zona existen, también, otros enclaves históricos relacionados con la gran contienda, como el Cementerio de la Guerra, donde descansan 1.740 soldados. Kanchanaburi es famoso, igualmente, por su Templo del Tigre, donde más de un centenar de tigres asiáticos conviven como si fueran gatos domésticos junto a los monjes budistas e interactúan con los visitantes regalándoles una experiencia inolvidable. Muy recomendable.

DESTINOS /LA REVISTA DE SOTOGRANDE/

3. CHIANG MAI Su fascinante diversidad étnica, sus reservas de elefantes, una gran variedad de escuelas de cocina y masajes thai, y un increíble paisaje natural hacen de Chiang Mai uno de los destinos turísticos más atractivos de toda Asia y, por ende, otra parada imprescindible de esta ruta. Chiang Mai se encuentra al norte de Bangkok, a unos 700 kilómetros. Tomar el tren desde la capital y despertar en este destino rodeado de algunas de las montañas más altas de Tailandia, es, simplemente, insuperable. De entre las muchas opciones que ofrece, de nuevo destaca la proliferación de templos (más de 300). De todos, merece la pena reservar tiempo para visitar el Templo Blanco de Chiang Rai, por ser totalmente diferente a cuanto uno pueda imaginar. Una impactante construcción realizada en 1997 y rodeada de gran polémica por mezclar de manera ecléctica detalles típicos de la cultura budista con elementos tan dispares como monstruos de ficción o detalles de ‘Hello Kitty”. La belleza y riqueza natural de esta parte del país invita, asimismo, a aventurarse en un safari por la selva o en alguna excursión de senderismo que culmine en uno de los santuarios de elefantes que atesora el lugar. RAILEY Para llegar a la cuarta parada de esta singular ruta habrá que pasar por Krabi, que situado en la costa Oeste de Tailandia se configura como puerta de acceso a diversos parques naturales, entre los que se encuentra Railey. Si se pude, el mejor plan será subir en un bote desde Ao Nang hasta Railey, visitando sus cuevas y disfrutando, a golpe de cámara, de las maravillosas panorámicas sobre el Mar de Andamán que regala su mirador. 5. BANGKOK Any trip to Thailand should begin with the capital: Bangkok, or Krung Thep, â&#x20AC;&#x153;the city of angelsâ&#x20AC;?, as it is known among its inhabitants. Bangkok awaits visitors and will dazzle them with the liveliness of a cosmopolitan city with more than ten million inhabitants, and surprise them with the peacefulness of its legendary spots. Past and present come together in perfect harmony. Any stay in Bangkok must include, first of all, a visit to the Royal Palace. This architectural complex comprised of a group of buildings, served as the r o y a l headquarters until midway through the 20th century. The most important place in the palace is the Wat Phra Kaew temple, which is home to the

walk along the snaking Canals (khlongs) and enjoy the visual spectacle provided by its famous floating markets. From the busy market of Damnoen, to the little market of Taling Chan, this is one of the

most authentic areas of this city where you can buy almost everything. Before leaving Bangkok, if you have time, it would be fascinating to leave the historic quarter and take a trip around the famous Sky Train (the air metro), with a stop, if your trip coincides, at the weekend market of Chatuchak.. 2. KANCHANABURI:Â Only three hours from the capital, Kanchanaburi is the perfect plan for a getaway from Bangkok where you can breathe in pure air. This place is known, above all, for the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai, the setting of the legendary film about World War II starring Alec Guiness. The area is also home to other historic areas linked to the conflict, such as the War Cemetery, where 1740 soldiers are buried. Kanchanaburi is also famous for its Tiger Temple, where more than one hundred Asian tigers live together as though they were domestic cats alongside Buddhist

monks and interact with visitors offering them an unforgettable experience. It is very recommendable. 3. CHIANG MAI The fascinating ethnic diversity, elephant reserves, large variety of cooking schools and Thai massages, and incredible natural landscapes make Chiang Mai one of the most appealing tourism destinations in all of Asia, and consequently, it is another essential stop on this route. Chiang Mai is around 700 kilometres north of Bangkok. Taking the train from the capital and waking up in this destination surrounded by some of the highest

From north to south, rice fields cover the landscape with an intense green and waterlogging. This is not for nothing, as it sustains a large part of the country’s economy.

ISLANDS The islands of Thailand are true paradises where you can get lost and forget about the world. There are options for all tastes spread around the entire country. ¿cómo es la grabación de un capítulo? Sí es bastante habitual, siempre hay varias series de ficción produciéndose a la vez para canales públicos y privados. Lo que quizás sí es más especial es encontrar una serie que aúna ciencia ficción, fantasía y aventura en una ficción española. El Ministerio del Tiempo es una serie muy compleja, pero disfrutamos muchísimo del día a día que nos ofrece.

Mientras ruedo la serie tengo muy poco tiempo libre. Entre la grabación, las horas de estudio y la promoción, la verdad, es que no paro. Así que, cuando puedo, me gusta desconectar con planes tranquilos con mis amigos y mi familia. ¡Y salir a la naturaleza!

It is indeed quite common, there are also fiction series being produced simultaneously for public and private channels. What is perhaps more special, is finding a series that brings together science fiction, fantasy and adventure is a Spanish fiction series. El Ministerio del Tiempo is a very complex series, but we really enjoy the day to day work it offers.

I imagine that you will have been asked this a thousand times but, if you could, what period in history would you travel back to? The truth is that I would only travel as an external observer, and if I knew that I would be able to return to my own time. Something like

After looking him up and down with his mouth wide open, he told him “Ole…”. We were laughing for hours.

DISEÑO CON VISTAS AL

MEDITERRÁNEO MÁGICO

Patricia Darch abre las puertas de uno de sus últimos proyectos de interiorismo a los lectores de La Revista de Sotogrande. Un fabuloso dúplex en la privilegiada urbanización Les Rivages de Estepona, donde las maravillosas vistas a la costa de África y Gibraltar y la luz del Mediterráneo dan la bienvenida a un hogar de ensueño en el que el lujo, el confort y el gusto por el diseño quedan perfectamente fusionados.

l equipo de Patricia Darch Interiors, capitaneado en este proyecto por la arquitecta y diseñadora de interiores, Sara Santamarta, incorpora a su extenso portfolio una nueva joya. Un precioso dúplex donde cada milímetro ha sido estudiado al detalle para conseguir un resultado insuperable de diseño y decoración que Sara nos explica en este reportaje: "Al visitar por primera vez la urbanización Les Rivages, supe que las vistas eran las protagonistas y que en torno a su fuerza giraría todo el proyecto. Así, decidimos comenzar

con el exterior. Una terraza con tanta fuerza requería un mobiliario que maximizara su localización privilegiada. Optamos por una zona más formal de 4 sillones en lugar de sofás, que favoreciera la conversación. También usamos colores muy suaves y una textura de acero corten para la zona del comedor", explica la arquitecta jefa del proyecto.

"En la planta noble, aparte del dormitorio principal, encontramos salón, comedor y cocina todo diáfano, por lo que nos supuso un quebradero de cabeza encontrar la mejor distribución que favoreciera las vistas sin dejar de ser funcional", argumenta.

la firma española Casa Desús, en los que el diseño no se limita a la parte delantera, sino que la trasera es también muy interesante. "Al tapizarlos en piel blanca, conseguimos aportar mucha ligereza, por lo que no resaltaban sobre el conjunto y las vistas del mar seguían siendo el foco principal", añade al respecto. Para aportar un poco de contraste, optaron por una combinación de cojines en tonos lima y terciopelos suaves de Dedar o Lizzo. Y apostaron por el uso de una alfombra para la delimitación de los espacios. En el comedor, los interioristas se decidieron por una combinación de tonos champagne, muy acorde con el crema del mármol del suelo, presente en toda la vivienda, para dar fluidez a los espacios. Y como toque especial, sobre la mesa del comedor, colocaron una maravillosa lámpara con diseño de cuernos de cristal de la casa Fendi. Cada brazo está hecho a mano y el tono del cristal varía de más a menos opaco utilizando una técnica de frotado con arena. Impresionante.

En cuanto al dormitorio principal, Sara Santamarta destaca, sobre todo, el papel elegido de la firma Coordonné, que combinado con los cojines de Hermès dio un resultado perfecto. Además de ocuparse del interiorismo, el equipo de Patricia Darch también realizó el diseño de los baños y aseos del apartamento, lo que convirtió el proyecto en mucho más interesante. El resultado fue tan especial, que fue elegido por la urbanización para el resto de viviendas de la comunidad. Así, en el caso del aseo, al carecer de ventilación natural y tener una forma muy alargada, decidieron apostar por una combinación de un aplacado en uno de los paramentos verticales, con el suelo y un papel de la firma Casamance con efecto marmolado. El espejo lo eligieron retroiluminado, produciéndose un efecto en el papel muy interesante y maximizando el espacio. Una vez completados los espacios, era el turno de la planta baja, donde se encontraban dos dormitorios de invitados y un espacio bajo la escalera que decidieron aprovechar

a modo de oficina. Una vez más, Patricia Darch y sus profesionales se decidieron por tonos muy neutros, añadiendo un toque con las sillas negras y los artículos decorativos. El set completo es de la firma italiana Malerba, muy sofisticada y con mobiliario de mucha clase. En los dormitorios de invitados el trabajo fue realmente innovador, con propuestas radicalmente distintas. Cabe destacar, el uso, en uno de los cuartos, de un espectacular cabecero como pieza central de la firma portuguesa Frato, tapizado en una suave alcántara muy agradable al tacto (y a la vista). Para concluir, en la segunda estancia de invitados, el equipo de Patricia Darch hizo gala de su ingenio con una interesante solución para el baño, que daba al interior y carecía de luz natural. Para solventarlo, abrieron un hueco en el dormitorio y lo protegieron con una lámina a modo de espejo, de manera que desde el dormitorio hacia el baño se refleja la luz, mientras que en el baño se disfrutan las vistas y la privacidad. Simplemente insuperable y el broche perfecto para acabar este reportaje. n

It is a fabulous duplex in the privileged resort of Les Rivages in Estepona. Spectacular views that gaze over the coast of Africa and Gibraltar under the light of the Mediterranean sun welcoming you to a dreamlike home, where luxury, comfort and contemporary design combine to a perfect reality.

This showcase project led by architect and interior designer, Sara Santamarta, is their most recent accomplishment. The Les Rivages development boasts an array of beach front properties, of which

Patricia Darch and her team have designed and decorated a beautiful duplex, where every inch has been meticulously studied in order to obtain unsurpassable design and décor results which Sara explains to us in her words. “When I visited the Les Rivages resort for the first time, I knew that the views and location were an important aspect of the

development and that the design would need to echo their beauty. Dealing with a duplex can be challenging as you need to ensure that all areas flow harmoniously. Commencing with the main floor, an open plan design makes for easy living and freedom of movement, which require special thought for the furnishings which are viewed from every angle. Bearing this in mind, we made the focal

point of the living area are the beautiful sofas, designed by CasaDesús in a light colored leather to help create the illusion of space and movement.” She explains. The use of colour accents in the design is innovative, the designers used a combination of soft velvets with bright lime tones for the decorative cushions and striking colours in the artwork to contrast the neutral scheme throughout the home. The dining area features champagne tones, to compliment the cream colour of the marble used for the flooring which gives a sense of fluidity, these tones provide clarity throughout the apartment. The heart of the scheme is a breathtaking chandelier designed by the world renowned Fendi Casa home furnishings. The light is a handmade, blown glass structure, imitating an ice sculpture, each arm is unique and the opaque glass is a result of a rare Venetian technique. The master bedroom is an elegant haven, the Hermes silk fabric which features jungle scenes and beautiful palm trees are a reflection of the luscious surroundings. These fine fabrics coupled with sumptuous suede and leather furniture provide a stunning scheme for this important space. Patricia Darch’s team also presented a design for the bathrooms and communal areas inside the building, the result was so special, that it was chosen by the resort for all properties in the development. The cloakroom combines specially chosen tiles and marble effect wallpaper from the prestigious French brand Casamance. Lighting was of paramount importance and the result was seamless, producing a very interesting effect on the paper and creating a sense of a much larger space. The lower floor consists of two guest bedrooms and an open plan office. Separating the two floors into ensures that guests have the privilege of their own floor and private terraces, making hosting a pleasurable experience. The office is a masculine and sophisticated scheme, the desk, chair and drawers are upholstered in a soft crocodile printed leather from the Italian company Malerba; one of the top brands in the industry, the area is complimented by unique accessories and a colour palette to enhance the neutral shades. The guest rooms are both unique but harmonious. It is worth highlighting use of spectacular headboards, one of which is upholstered with soft silk and outlined in bronze mirror, the result is outstandingly beautiful. Sara Santamarta really showed off her ingenuity in the second guest suite, with an interesting solution for the bathroom, the room is inward facing and lacked natural light. In order to resolve this, she opened a window above the bed in the bedroom and covered it with a mirror, that was transparent on the other side, therefore the light is reflected from the bedroom towards the bathroom. From the bathroom you enjoy jaw dropping views and a burst of natural light and from the bedroom a vast mirror that reflects the stunning views from all angles. Looking at the exterior areas, such impressive spaces required furniture that would maximise its privileged location. We opted for a formal lounge area with 4 large armchairs, this encourages a space for conversation and leaves the lounging for the large nestdesign day beds” explains the designer. A fabulous dining table with a steel structure and a slate top contributes to a clean-cut and fresh scheme. It is simply genius and the perfect finishing touch for this report. n

Todo comenzó hace 12 años, cuando trabajaba en el sector de la construcción y decidí lanzarme a la aventura empresarial. Comencé como socio, creando dos empresas: Estructuras Dama, especializada en cimientos y estructuras, y Pinturas Nawa, dedicada a la decoración y la pintura. Años más tarde, quise expandir el negocio y mis objetivos, así que decidí hacerlo por mi cuenta y fundé mi propia empresa, que abarcaba todos los aspectos de la construcción. Para mí, el grupo CPAD fue un sueño personal y profesional.

Un lugar en el que oriente y occidente se unen y en el que todo es posible en cuanto a volumen, espacio, formas, materiales, tecnología, decoración, etc. Cada día nos involucramos más en estos proyectos y tenemos la oportunidad de trabajar con grandes arquitectos que poseen una nueva forma de mirar a la construcción tradicional.

El futuro de la arquitectura moderna, en concreto en Marbella, es fantástico. La decoración y el diseño rompen los moldes tradicionales. Pero esta ruptura no es total y absoluta, ya que incluso los amantes de la arquitectura tradicional combinan e incorporan elementos de la arquitectura más innovadora en espacios diseñados y concebidos desde una perspectiva más tradicional. Hoy día es el estilo más demandado, no solo por los propietarios existentes en la zona que realizan este tipo de cambios, sino también por los nuevos propietarios que no tienen opción de comprar terrenos sin edificar para construir desde cero y que, por tanto, no pueden decidir factores como la ubicación, orientación, vistas y disposición de la propiedad. Además, existe un grupo de compradores potenciales a los que no les importa tanto la proximidad al centro de la ciudad. Para ellos, hay una gran variedad de terrenos en la zona y existe la posibilidad de construir una casa de acuerdo con el entorno, para crear hogares fantásticos para sus residentes y para quienes puedan contemplarlos…n

Tell us about the origins of your company and how it developed over the years…

It all began 12 years ago when I was working as a builder’s labourer and I decided to throw myself into a business venture. I started out by becoming a partner, creating two companies, Estructuras Dama, specialising in foundations and structures, and Pinturas Nawa, specialising in decoration and painting. Years later, and with a view to expanding my operations and ambition, I decided to go it alone, founding my own company, covering the whole construction sector. CPAD Group was a major personal and professional dream for me. After years of hard work and dedication, it was transformed into a team of young and enterprising professionals who worked in perfect coordination, securing the confidence of clients and colleagues in the sector and positioning ourselves as a reliable and highly recommended company.

What are the main factors behind

your company’s success?

Attention to detail and passion… beginning with how we look after our clients, creating a bond of commitment, friendship and professionalism. Listening to whatever is their dream or project, and being by their side at every moment, guiding and proposing the best way to carry out the work. Making the complex and special operative process easier and more manageable. Working hand in hand with all those involved in the project, as if we were just one. Offering the best relationship between quality and price, paying particular attention to the finer details and finishing the project punctually. Team and rapport… A company is not just a name, or one single person. It needs to be forged and shaped by a team of professionals who, from day to day, give their best in their respective spheres. And who manage to be the best without following a direct line but rather an open and wide curve in order to continue advancing.

What inspires you in your work? Knowledge… Architects and designers are, and always will be, our inspirations because, from the

beginning of time, they have been the creators of different construction styles, adapting them to each environment and moment, without forgetting the owner’s original proposal and their preferences and ideas in respect of the materials, use of space, etc. So together with these influences, and our knowledge and experience in construction, we always achieve the result that the client is after. My passion is to continue every day doing what I most enjoy, building and doing it in a special way – that’s what I was born to do. I have the good fortune of being able to capture and express each minor detail of an idea or to sketch the reality. I’m inspired by giving life to something wonderful that will become a home, a leisure centre, etc. To learn something new every day, learn from your mistakes, learn from others, be open to innovation and be more competitive. To continue teaching each member of the team how to be better, that there is only one way to do things, making them feel that they are the company, part of my dream, and that they turn it into a reality. Hoping that all of this enables me to achieve the levels I aimed for when starting up the company. That it was not just the biggest but the most meticulous, intimate and professional.

How do you see the current state

of the market?

With optimism… Unfortunately there isn’t enough work for everyone but we remain optimistic and press ahead with determination and firm resolve, thanks to our perseverance, qualifications and professionalism, committed to quality work that earns the confidence of clients, architects, etc. We have reached the desired point, now more than ever before, where we have the opportunity to show everyone who we are. That’s what really motivates me to continue working and to provide what my clients need, want and desire. How do we achieve that? By asking questions, listening, observing and learning.

Decoration and design are breaking the traditional mould. But this break is not final and complete, because even lovers of traditional architecture are blending and incorporating elements of the most innovative architecture in spaces designed and conceived from a more traditional perspective. Today it is the style most in demand, not only by existing owners in the area who carry out these kinds of changes but also by new owners who don’t have the option of buying a virgin plot of land and building from zero and who therefore are unable to choose such factors as location, orientation, views and layout of the property. In addition, there is a group of potential buyers who don’t place such importance on proximity to the town centre. For them, there is still a large variety of plots in the area and the possibility of building a home in accordance with the surroundings. Creating wonderful homes for their inhabitants and those who have the opportunity of contemplating them…n

LAS JORNADAS DE HISTORIA, TANIT Y EL CASTILLO DE JIMENA DE LA FRONTERA Recientemente la revista PH89, editada por el Instituto Andaluz de Patrimonio Histórico dependiente de la Consejería de Cultura, ha dedicado dos amplios y documentados reportajes al Castillo de Jimena, en los que aborda un estudio de las intervenciones realizadas en los últimos años en el mismo y su estado actual, después de la importante transformación experimentada en este recinto histórico.

n uno de ellos el arquitecto Francisco Reina describe las intervenciones llevadas a cabo en el sector oriental del castillo, en el que han salido a la superficie lienzos de muralla de la antigua población romana de Oba, sobre cuyos restos se edificó el castillo. En este sector, que da al actual pueblo de Jimena, se ha construido una pasarela convenientemente protegida, que bordea el castillo y que ofrece una bellísima vista del pueblo desde una situación elevada, que da la impresión de una visión aérea del pueblo y de un extenso paisaje que llega hasta Gibraltar hacia el sur y hasta la provincia de Málaga hacia el este. El castillo de Jimena ha sido también protagonista en las recientes XXIII Jornadas de Historia, al haber sido escenario de una magnífica representación de la primera toma castellana del mismo en 1431. En este acto, organizado por la Asociación Tanit en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de Jimena, participaron un buen número de asociaciones locales, que contribuyeron al completo éxito de la representación. Hay que resaltar el guión de Eduardo Navarro, secretario de Tanit y la dirección artística de Marcos,

propietario y director del Corral de la Paca, que viene realizando desde hace años una serie de actividades artísticas de un extraordinario mérito en una población como Jimena. Aquí ha traído espectáculos de mucha calidad, gracias a sus relaciones en ambientes artísticos madrileños, en los que ha participado durante muchos años. En estas Jornadas hay que destacar también la importante colaboración del Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños y concretamente de su director Ángel Sáez y de los presidentes de la sección primera, José Algarbani y de la segunda, Carlos Gómez de Avellaneda. Estos tres destacados miembros del IECG desarrollaron sendas conferencias que, una vez más, pusieron de manifiesto sus amplios conocimientos de diferentes aspectos de la historia local y comarcal. La Universidad de Cádiz también ha estado presente con tres conferencias de tres de sus profesores. También hay que destacar la magnífica exposición de Arte Sureño de la artista Manuela Puerta, en la que se hacían muy realistas reproducciones de pinturas rupestres de diferentes cuevas y abrigos de la comarca. Por su parte el Ayuntamiento organizó durante la Semana Santa una serie

de visitas guiadas al castillo, conducidas por el funcionario municipal Juan Vega, gran conocedor de la historia y de la arqueología local. Estas visitas se repitieron posteriormente con algún colegio de la comarca y es propósito municipal dedicar una mayor atención a la difusión del patrimonio histórico y monumental, del que el castillo es elemento importante aunque no único, ya que hay otros monumentos y parajes dignos de ser conocidos. Es obligado mencionar también la magnífica labor de difusión del patrimonio cultural que están haciendo algunos miembros de Tanit en combinación con los colegios y profesores locales: visitas al castillo, al canal de las Reales Fábricas de Artillería, a los monumentos religiosos y con rutas como la de los lagares, de los que se siguen descubriendo algunos desconocidos o al menos no abordados hasta ahora desde un punto de vista profesional. Estos lagares demuestran el pasado vinícola del pueblo, desaparecido con las plagas de filoxera del siglo XIX. Éstas y otras actividades evidencian unas inquietudes culturales que nunca habían existido anteriormente.n

HISTORY DAYS, TANIT AND JIMENA CASTLE Recently, the magazine PH89, edited by the Andalusian Institute of Historic Heritage, part of the Department of Culture, dedicated two extensive and well-documented reports to Jimena Castile. The reports consider a study of work carried out over the last few years on the castle and its current state, following the significant transformation that this historic infrastructure has undergone.

n one of the reports, the architect Francisco Reina describes the work that has been carried out on the east section of the castle, in which stretches of wall from the old Roman settlement of Oba have come to the surface. The castle was built over the remains of the settlement. In this section, which leads to the current town of Jimena, a suitably protected walkway has been built, it goes around the castle and offers a very beautiful view of the town from a high vantage point, offering the impression of bird’s eye view of the town and of an extensive landscape that stretches towards Gibraltar in the south and province of Malaga towards the east. Jimena Castle also took centre stage at the recent 23rd History Days, as it was the setting for a magnificent re-enactment of the first Castilian capture of it in 1431. At the event, organised by the Tanit Association in collaboration with the Council of Jimena, there was participation from a large number of local associations, who contribute to the re-enactment’s complete success. It is worth drawing attention to the script of Eduardo Navarro, secretary of Tanit, and the artistic direction of Marcos, owner and director of Corral de la Paca, which has been carrying out artistic activity of extraordinary merit for some years now in a town like Jimena.

He has brought high quality shows here, thanks to his relationships in Madrid’s artistic scene, in which he has participated for many years. With these History Days, it is also worth highlighting the important collaboration of the Institute of Campo de Gibraltar Studies, and specifically, the work of its director Ángel Sáez and of the presidents of the first section, José Algarbani and of the second, Carlos Gómez de Avellaneda. These three outstanding members of the IECG held conferences that showed their extensive knowledge of different aspects of local and regional history. The University of Cadiz also participated with three conferences given by three of its professors. It is also worth highlighting the magnificent exhibition of Southern Art given by

the artist Manuela Puerta, which provided very realistic reproductions of cave paintings from different caves and shelters in the region. In turn, during Holy Week the Council organised a series of guided visits to the castle, led by the municipal official Juan Vega, who has a great knowledge of local history and archaeology. These visits were repeated subsequently with some schools from the region and the municipality aims to put more focus on the dissemination of historic and monumental heritage. The castle constitutes a significant part of this heritage, although it is not the only part, as there are other monuments and areas that are worth discovering. It is necessary to also mention the magnificent cultural heritage dissemination work being carried out by some members of Tanit in collaboration with local schools and teachers: visits to the castle, to the canal of the Royal Artillery Factory, to religious monuments and with routes such as that of the winepresses. Some of these winepresses were unknown, or at least have not been looked at professionally. They demonstrate the wine making past of the town, which disappeared with the phylloxera plagues in the 19th century. These and other activities, show a concern for culture that previously did not exist.n

Un templo culinario situado en el Hotel Finca Cortesín al que acudir para vivir una auténtica experiencia gastronómica junto a Luis Olarra y su magistral forma de rendir culto a la ortodoxia nipona entremezclada con la mejor esencia mediterránea. Por supuesto, no puede faltar el sushi y, para acabar, quizás, su costilla de buey teriyaki o su bacalao marinado en miso... Todo insuperable. Al igual que el teatro japonés que le da nombre, Kabuki Raw se presenta en un escenario único: el majestuoso hotel Finca Cortesín. En uno de sus hermosos salones, Luis Olarra y su equipo interpretan cada

MARIDAJE CON SAKE Maridar la velada a base del mejor sake es una de las exclusivas opciones que ofrece Kabuki Raw, con 15 tipos de sakes diferentes y la sapiencia de Hiromi Okura, un reconocido sumiller experto en estos jugos obtenidos tras la conversión del arroz en azúcar fermentable por medio de un moho llamado koji-kin. Para el toro en escabeche, el sumiller aconseja el Sake Junmai, concretamente el Nami No Oto, que tiene características para suavizar la grasa del atún y potenciar su sabor. Para el consomé de Jurel, apuesta de nuevo por el Junmai, pero caliente (entre 35-40 grados), concretamente el Sohomare Tokubetsu . BUENA BODEGA Para los amantes del vino, Kabuki Raw también cuenta con un gran sumiller. Agustín Navarro invita con sus propuestas a realizar un viaje sensorial por el mundo a través de más de sesenta variedades de champagne y 380 de vino. Navarro maridaría con Palo Cortado tradición 30 años la ventresca y con Fino La Panesa el jurel.

Como privilegiados espectadores de este singular escenario tenemos la suerte de presenciar cómo el chef prepara dos de sus creaciones favoritas: el Udon de Jurel y el Usuzukuri de Toro en Escabeche. Sencillez, solo, en apariencia. Alta cocina a base de producto y una depurada técnica. Olarra nos explica, como buen maestro, que el Udon de Jurel es una especie de consomé realizado con la espina del jurel a base de un caldo dashi. Para elaborarlo, el estrella Michelín infusiona alga kombu y copos de bonito secos katsuobushi. Posteriormente, ahúma el jurel, tuesta las espinas a la parrilla y hace una infusión con ellas. El toque final lo pone el jengibre, al-

gún alga para decorar y unas flores de ajo. Usuzukuri de Toro en Escabeche (ventresca de atún) es la segunda propuesta con la que descubrimos esa perfecta fusión de culturas que predomina en la cocina de Kabuki. Solo con observar el corte que Olarra realiza al atún queda demostrada su maestría. Precisión y pureza en su máximo exponente. Una vez dispuesto el 'carpaccio', el cocinero corona cada pieza con un toque de escabeche, realizado con vinagre de arroz, aceite, laurel, pimienta, sake, cebollas roja y blanca y zanahoria. El objetivo: contrarrestar la grasa del atún con el ácido del escabeche. El resultado: explosión de sabores en el paladar.

No es de extrañar, que el lugar haya sido galardonado con una estrella en la Guía Michelín y Dos Soles en la Guía Repsol. No nos sorprendería, igualmente, que sumase alguna más en la próxima edición. Sin duda, lo merece. Tradición, pasión, calidad, elegancia, sencillez, y detalles de cada detalle. Realmente sublime. n

Just like the Japanese theatre it takes its name from, Kabuki Raw is staged in a unique setting: the majestic hotel Finca Cortesín. In one of its beautiful rooms, Luis Olarra and his team create every dish in front of the diners. As privileged spectators of this unique setting we are lucky to witness how the chef prepares two of his favourite creations: Horse Mackerel Udon Noodles and Usuzukuri of Bull in Pickle. is haute cuisine using top produce and refined technique. Olarra explains, like a good master, that Horse Mackerel Udon Noodles is a kind of consommé created with the spine of the horse mackerel as a dashi stock. In order to create it the Michelin star chef infuses kombu seaweed and flakes of dried katsuobushi bonito. Afterwards, he smokes the horse mackerel, toasts the spines on the grill and makes an infusion with them. The final touch is added with the ginger, some seaweed to decorate it and some garlic flowers. Usuzukuri of Bull in Pickle (tuna belly) is the second option where we discover this perfect fusion of cultures that takes precedence in the cuisine at Kabuki. You simply need to see the way Olarra cuts the tuna to prove his mastery. Precision and purity at their finest. Once the “carpaccio” is ready, the chef adds

a little brine to each piece, it is made from rice vinegar, oil, laurel, pepper, sake, red and white onion and carrot. The aim: to counter the fat of the tuna with the acid of the pickle. odeados del abrumador verde del legendario Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande y con la brisa del mar como acompañante, disfrutamos de una velada de verano en una preciosa villa en la zona más antigua de la urbanización. Buena compañía y un entorno mágico es la carta de presentación para una noche que promete ser especial. El motivo, o más bien la excusa, para tan exquisita reunión es catar el nuevo vino de Marqués de Riscal; la bodega favorita de nuestro anfitrión. Barón de Chirel Viñas Centenarias Verdejo nos aguarda en el jardín, lleno de matices y notas prestas a ser descifradas. Antes de comenzar el banquete sensorial, nos advierten que estamos ante un blanco diferente. Un Verdejo de Segovia, donde el carácter ácido y granítico del suelo convierte a este blanco en singular y lo distingue de los demás Denominación de Origen Rueda. Un vino creado para festejar el 30 aniversario de Barón de Chirel. Un motivo de peso para querer elaborar un producto de altura, que perdure en el tiempo, y haga disfrutar a los amantes del buen vino. Para lograrlo, Marqués de Riscal seleccionó viñedos de más de cien años, y se encargó de recogerlos a mano, en cajas de 20 kg. Al llegar a la bodega, el fruto pasó por

una doble mesa de selección de racimos y de uvas enteras. Sólo el mosto flor ( de poca turbidez y gran calidad) sería utilizado para crear las 3.700 botellas que atesoran este vino. Pura exclusividad. Con la teoría aprendida, nos disponemos a catarlo. Como buen Verdejo, se presenta ante nosotros como un vino brillante, de color amarillo pajizo, regalándonos en nariz una intensidad aromática alta. Al probarlo, el momento más esperado, descubrimos una boca densa, larga y sabrosa, algo que sólo pueden proporcionar, de manera natural, estas viñas viejas de tan poco rendimiento. Sin duda, un gran vino, cuya acidez natural, gracias a la altitud de las fincas donde se cosecha (algunas a 900 metros), le asegura una buena evolución en botella. Sorbo a sorbo, observamos los matices de un blanco eminentemente gastronómico. Perfecto para acompañar a la buena mesa. Para potenciar más sus virtudes, nos invitan a maridarlo. Por sus características, este nuevo Barón de Chirel es perfecto para acompañar a carnes blancas, cordero asado, quesos, verduras a la plancha, legumbres y pescados en salsa. Así, para disfrutar más de sus infinitas notas, degustamos una ración de queso Payoyo cubierto con manteca de cerdo

y pimentón, típico de la tierra de Cádiz. Un suculento entrante, que da paso a un delicioso atún escabechado de Barbate con un delicioso panaché de verduras. La fusión de sabores resulta perfecta. Acabamos la velada y alargamos la copa, resistiéndonos a poner fin a un festival sensorial que ha resultado fascinante. Sin duda, la mejor manera de festejar los treinta años del tinto Barón de Chirel ha sido creando este sublime blanco. urrounded by the staggering green of the legendary Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande and with the sea breeze accompanying it, we enjoyed a summer evening at a beautiful villa in the oldest part of the resort. Good company and magical surroundings served as the perfect introduction to a night that promised to be special. The reason, or rather the excuse, for such an exquisite gathering, is to taste the new Marqués de Riscal wine; the favourite winery of our host. Barón de Chirel Viñas Centenarias Verdejo awaits us in the garden, full of nuances and notes ready to be unlocked. Before beginning the sensory banquet, we are warned this this is a different white. It is a Verdejo from Segovia where the acidic and granite nature of the soils make this white really unique and distinguish it from the other Rueda Denomination of Origin wines. It is a wine that was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Barón de Chirel. This is an excellent reason to want to create a top quality product that will last over time, and really be enjoyed by lovers of good wine. In order to achieve that, Marqués de Riscal selected vines that were more than one hundred years old, and collected the grapes by hand, in 20kg boxes. When it reached the winery, the fruit went through a double selection of bunches and of entire grapes. Only the flower must (little turbidity and high quality) will be used in order to create the 3700 treasured bottles of

this wine. Pure exclusivity. With the theory learned, we got ready to taste it. Like a good Verdejo, it is presented to us like a bright wine, with a straw yellow colour, providing the nose with a high intensity aroma.

When it comes to the tasting, the most eagerly awaited moment, we discover a dense, long and delicious mouth, something that can only be provided naturally with these old vines with such a little yield. This is undoubtedly a great wine, whose natural acidity, thanks to the altitude of the estates where it is harvested (some at 900 metres) ensure that it matures well in the bottle. Sip by sip, we observe the nuances of a white that is outstandingly gastronomical. It is perfect for accompanying good food. In order to further enhance its assets, we are invited to combine it with food. Due to its characteristics, this new Barón de Chirel is perfect for accompanying white meat, roast lamb, cheeses, grilled vegetables, pulses and fish in sauce. So, in order to get more enjoyment out of its infinite notes, we taste a portion of Pay-

oyo cheese covered with pork fat and paprika, typical in Cadiz. It is a succulent starter, that leads on to delicious tuna pickled in Barbate with a delicious panaché of vegetables. The combination of flavours is perfect. We finish the evening and continue with the wine, finding it difficult to put an end to a sensory festival that has been fascinating. Without doubt, the best way to celebrate thirty years of the Barón de Chirel red wine has been by creating this sublime white. a noventa edición del Open de España será recordada por ser el año en que el mejor golf volvió a Valderrama de manos de Sergio García como anfitrión, salvándose de la extinción, y devolviendo a Sotogrande el gran torneo que tanto aguardaba. Se rememorará, además, por ser el encuentro en el que todas las apuestas resultaron fallidas al ganar, para sorpresa de muchos, el joven Andrew Johnston (67, 74, 74, 70). Un inglés de grandes barbas, apodado “beef”, que logró arrebatar el título a un nutrido grupo de nombres propios del golf que, en la roda final, rozaron con la punta de los dedos una victoria que parecía real,

pero que, como suele pasar en Valderrama, se tornó imposible en décimas de segundo. Una vez más, el decisivo hoyo 17 apretó la clasificación hasta el final. En el mejor de los sentidos para hombres como Johnston o Joost Luiten, y, en el peor de los casos, para jugadores como Pablo Larrazábal, que necesitó, para completarlo, de 10 impactos que, definitivamente, lo alejaron del triunfo. Andrew Johnston levantó el trofeo del Abierto español al finalizar con un golpe más sobre el par del campo, obteniendo, así, su primer título en el Circuito Europeo, dejando a todos con la “boca abierta”, y embolsándose 333.330 euros. El mejor español del encuentro, con una excepcional ronda final de -4, fue Sergio García, que se llevó el trofeo José Vallejo. García, al término del torneo, agradeció la gran labor de la organización durante todo el evento y afirmó sentirse orgulloso por ser el anfitrión del campeonato, de la mano de su Fundación. “Cerca de 70.000 euros podremos aportar a la adquisición de pisos para familias con niños enfermos de cáncer”, matizó el golfista, que completó el podio del torneo.

A pesar de que tuvimos poco tiempo de preparación, el campo estaba en magníficas condiciones, recibimos multitud de felicitaciones de jugadores, Circuito Europeo y prensa. En términos de asistencia de público también fue un éxito, ya que superamos holgadamente las cifras del Andalucía Masters de 2011. Las audiencias de televisión han sido sorprendentes si las comparas con otros torneos del European Tour; el seguimiento ha sido masivo y no solo en países Europeos, también ha habido un gran seguimiento en EEUU y en diversos países de Asia. En términos deportivos, es evidente que el campo supuso un gran reto para los jugadores; Valderrama siempre ha sido un campo complicado y a pesar de la gran pegada de esta nueva generación de jugadores, el campo mantiene su dificultad y obliga a los jugadores a mostrar toda su habilidad y estrategia. El final del torneo fue muy emocionante y tuvimos a Martin Kaymer y Sergio García peleando por el triunfo hasta el último hoyo.

En cuanto al resto de españoles, en los puestos más altos de la clasificación destacaron Alejandro Cañizares (291, +7); Rafa Cabrera-Bello (+9) y Pep Angles (+10), que con su juego se colaron en el ‘Top veinte’. or cuarto año consecutivo, está en marcha el Circuito de Golf de La Revista de Sotogrande. El lugar elegido para arrancar esta temporada fue el Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, uno de los puntos de referencia del golf en la región andaluza y sede de varios grandes eventos internacionales. Cerca de 120 jugadores, entre socios del club sevillano y habituales del Circuito de La Revista de Sotogrande, se dieron cita desde primera hora de la mañana del pasado 30 de abril para disfrutar de una divertida y calurosa jornada de golf y mucho más. La parte deportiva dio paso a la experiencia social. Un gran cóctel, sello habitual del Circuito, con degustación de vinos y bebidas de primeras marcas cortesía de los patrocinadores del encuentro Bacardi y Marqués de Riscal. Un evento social del que se hablará durante un tiempo y que sirvió de marco perfecto para realizar la entrega de premios y el sorteo de los regalos. En premios especiales, Teodosio Iglesias fue el ganador a la Bola más cercana (indistinta, Hoyo 3) y José Antonio Román se llevó el galardón al Drive más recto (indistinto, en el Hoyo 16). El mejor resultado en la Categoría Scratch fue para Javier Rodríguez-Tabernero Torres. En Primera Categoría Caballeros, el triunfo fue para Teodosio Iglesias. Álvaro García y Jorge Ugarte lo acompañaron en el podio. En Segunda Categoría de Caballeros, la victoria fue para Juan Antonio Clavijo, acompañado en el cajón por Carlos

Carrasco y Guillermo Rodríguez, segundo y tercero, respectivamente. Finalmente, en la Categoría de Damas, se impuso Ana Pérez, acompañada en el podio por Purificación Alcalá y María Remedios Muñoz. Tras un pistoletazo de salida de muchos quilates, los jugadores volverán a reencontrarse con las ya clásicas paradas de este encuentro: La Reserva (4 de junio); Almenara (25 de junio); San Roque Club (23 de julio) y Finca Cortesín (28 de agosto). A ellos se añade, para 2016, el Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, que el pasado año no pudo participar por estar inmerso en una profunda reforma. En esta edición, el mítico campo será el encargado de cerrar el calendario de clasificatorias con su prueba, prevista para el 16 de septiembre. Grandes recorridos en los que divertirse jugando y en los que, como ya viene siendo habitual, disfrutar de jornadas de excepción entre amigos gracias a ese ‘saber hacer’ que caracteriza a Grupo HCP a la hora de organizar eventos deportivos y sociales. Un encuentro de nivel que cada día cuenta con el respaldo de más patrocinadores.
