EVENTS CELEBRATE NOOSA’S HERITAGE

Almost at the geographic centre of Noosa Shire, Pomona is also Noosa’s historic mountain town, a fact that is celebrated every year during Heritage Week. Above is transportation of yesteryears. Noosa Shire’s rich heritage will be celebrated during April with a series of events and walks that will bring alive the early days of the hinterland villages.

vintage and classic car display. After lunch, members of the public are invited to participate in a heritage walk of Pomona, starting at 1pm. The theme for heritage week is “Discovery & ReDiscovery”, come and discover why Noosa Museum is in Pomona.

The walks, especially, are an excellent way for new residents to learn about the region’s past and understand what makes Pomona, Cooran and Cooroy special. The Heritage Week offering has been expanded this year to include a fascinating guided tour of the Pomona Cemetery. And expect to see fashions of yesteryear as volunteers dress in character, making it easy to imagine Pomona at the turn of the last century. The expanded activities are due to a partnership involving the Noosa Museum and Cooroy-Pomona Lions Club, said Cooroora Historical Society President, Jeanette Alfredson. The society operates the award-winning museum.

Visitors to Pomona during Heritage Week will be treated to people wearing colonial clothing reminiscent of the early days.

People are also asked to support the museum by buying a raffle ticket for prizes that include a hand-crafted side table by Jamie Bell, and a large decorated fruit cake by Shirley Hinds.

The main day of celebration is 16 April and the focus the museum, from 10am to Events in the week following: 3pm.
