The Reason for Meta’s Massive Layoffs? Ghosts in the Machine

Expanding its reach into social commerce, Walmart has recently announced the beta release of its Walmart Creator platform, according to a press release.

The portal allows content creators to make a commission with no limit on Walmart product links shared on any social media platform. Walmart Creator provides users with performance data as well as product recommendations based on their interests, per the release.

February Marketing Ideas to Boost Your Sales

This Magic Eight Ball of Online Marketing

Did you know that if you send an email to your list every day, that you will get far better results than if you only email them occasionally?

Yes, a few people will unsubscribe in a huff because you sent, ‘too many emails’; whatever that means. But those were not your best prospects anyway. And if you make your emails fun, entertaining and maybe even a little bit informative, you’ll get more opens and more clicks and yes, more revenue.

But the tough part is coming up with a new idea every day to send to your list. That is, it’s tough unless you take advantage of the crazy, strange and downright wacky holidays that happen throughout the month.

For example, on February 1st you might write an email about “work naked day” which I guarantee will get opened. On the 2nd you can talk about the marmot that stole your ice cream and your spouse’s tater tots while hiking at Mt. Rainier National Park. Okay, maybe it’s not 100% true, but when you start combining these holidays you can come up with some really wild stuff.

February 3rd is Dump Your Significant Jerk Day, and who doesn’t have a great, funny or cringeworthy story tell about that?

I challenge you to send an email every single day in February to your list. And if you get stuck for ideas, just peruse this list and you’ll have plenty to work from.

To get started, simply type in a keyword or phrase into the search bar and see what questions people are asking. You can then use those questions as the basis for your own content.

How To Get Multiple Google Featured Snippets for a Big Traffic Boost

Your prospect does a Google search and sees that highlighted piece of text, partial list, image or video that shows up at the top of the search. When they click on it they’re taken to your website where they read your stuff, maybe join your list and even buy your product.

Sounds great, right?

If your website shows up in multiple featured snippets for your best keywords, it’s possible to get an avalanche of super targeted traffic to your website that never stops.

And it costs you nothing but time to do it, too. What’s the easiest way to get Google Featured Snippets?

Here are the 4 steps, and one note: I was truly surprised at how easily this can be done.

2: Determine which of the keywords from Step 1 already have existing Featured Snippets.

You can find keywords with Featured Snippets by manually searching through your keywords or using a keyword tool such as Ahrefs that filters by Featured Snippets.

3: Study the article for the Featured Snippet that you want to beat.

What’s good about it? What’s missing? And what can be improved?

4: Write a better article for that keyword.

It might be a longer article, a more comprehensive or up to date article, or simply higher quality content.

Do all 4 steps repeatedly and you can get several featured snippets on Google.

You’ll find you have the most success when you target Featured Snippets from articles that barely mention the snippet topic. If Google doesn’t have a lot of content to choose from, it will sometimes choose weak articles that are super easy for you to beat.

Simply write an entire article just on that keyword and you’ll likely get the snippet.

Of course, you can also rank for keywords that don’t have a Featured Snippet. If you do, once that keyword does eventually get a snippet, you’ll greatly increase your odds that your article will be the one that is featured if it’s already getting Google traffic.

If your goal is Featured Snippets, then you want to target keywords that already have a Featured Snippet. Then if you outrank the existing article, you will virtually guarantee yourself a Featured Snippet. You can find keywords with Featured Snippets by manually searching through your keywords or using a keyword tool such as Ahrefs that filters by Featured Snippets.

Ready? Let’s get started…

1: Find low competition keywords you can easily rank for.

To find these low competition keywords, you can use Google Autocomplete. Start typing in a keyword and Google will suggest related keywords which are usually low competition.

Another way is to use Google Trends. You can see how popular a topic is, as well as comparing multiple topics to see which ones are less competitive.

Or you can use a keyword research tool like SEMRush to see the search volume and competition for a keyword.

2: Determine which of the keywords from Step 1 already have existing Featured Snippets.

If your goal is Featured Snippets, then you want to target keywords that already have a Featured Snippet. Then if you outrank the existing article, you will virtually guarantee yourself a Featured Snippet.

3: Study the article for the Featured Snippet that you want to beat.

I share these with you so that you don’t have to discover them the hard way like I did.

1: Sell it First, Build it Second

New and old marketers alike waste time and energy building products that no one wants to buy. These marketers think they know what their audience wants, and they have visions of massive sales of the ultimate product.

But the audience never asked for it.

You can avoid wasted time and rejection by selling your new product before you ever build it.

Let’s say you want to create a course.

The usual route is to spend two solid weeks building the course and getting it ready to put out into the world.

Whoops – no sales.

Instead, you outline not just one, but 5 different courses. You build a sales page for each, you send traffic to each of the 5, and here’s what happens:

• Course 1: No sales

• Course 2: 3 Sales

• Course 3: No Sales

• Course 4: 1 Sale

• Course 5: 12 Sales

Now tell me which course you’re going to create?

You can refund the sales for Courses 2 and 4, letting the buyers know you may do this in the future and thanking them profusely. You might also mention Course 5, which will go live in 10 days.

You get busy and you build the course. You use feedback from your first customers to improve it and make it even better. You refine the sales page and begin sending massive traffic to it, making massive sales.

Success!

Had you simply created Course #1, you would have wasted your time.

If you had gone through the list and created each course in turn, you would’ve found some success with Course #2 and perhaps never moved on to Course #5. Or if you had persevered, it would have taken you 5 courses to get to the true blockbuster that makes the sales that pays for your new house.

Sell your thing first and be ready to build it fast if it turns out to be a winner. This applies not just to courses, but also books, SaaS products, subscriptions and any other product you want to make.

2: Get Rid of Conversion Distractions

Your page has a goal – what is it? To get the reader to subscribe? Click a link? Buy a product? Join you on social media?

You’ve got to keep them on your page long enough to accomplish the task you set out for them.

If you want to get their email address, then the only option you give them is to fill out the form. You don’t place your social media icons on the page, or a link to your blog, or a promotion for your product.

Give them one option – the option you choose – and then don’t give them anything else to do but that one option.

3: Make Each Sentence Count

People get distracted easily.

If you have an ambiguous sentence, a repetitive paragraph, a boring description or anything else that is difficult to slog through, you’ll lose your reader.

The purpose of each sentence is to get them to read the next sentence.

And while you cannot please all the people all the time, neither can you keep the attention of everyone all the time, but you can try.

The secret weapon to keeping people reading is editing. Massive editing.

If it’s boring, fix it or remove it.

If it’s confusing, rewrite it.

If you need help, get a professional.

One professional editor can make you a lot of money if used correctly.

One more thing… when you first start out, you might be in love with what you’re written. Get over it.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your writing is remove a portion of it so that the rest of it can shine.

4: Use REAL Scarcity

“THIS SALE ENDS IN 5 MINUTES!”

Yeah. Right.

Scarcity is an awesome selling tool if you don’t abuse it. People are savvy. They know when you’re high pressuring them and they don’t like it.

What you want is real scarcity, such as these examples:

“Bonus: Free one-on-one consulting for the first 22 buyers. I simply don’t have time to handle more than that.”

“Sale ends Sunday night at 9pm. No exceptions. Do not email me Monday morning and ask for the sales price because you won’t get it.”

“Only 5 days left in 2023 to make your tax-deductible donation.”

“Delay and you will miss what might be the best investment opportunity of the decade.”

“If you want to enjoy this benefit 5 days from now, then you’ll have to act immediately.”

5: Sell Happy Products, Too

As marketers we’re taught to focus on the customers’ pain and provide a solution to that pain.

But do you know what else sells? Happiness.

People buy things to fix their problems, but they also buy stuff that makes them happy.

6: Don’t Stop Building

You’ve got one product sold through one channel to one group of customers.

That’s not a business; that’s a start.

Keep going by adding new products, advertising in new places, targeting new customers and more.

Amazon started as an online bookseller. Then they added CD’s and movies. Then they added more and more products as well as more and more services.

You don’t have to be another Amazon, but you do need to keep growing your business if you want long term success.

7: Fail Often and Broadcast It

Show me someone who hasn’t failed and I’ll show you someone who hasn’t accomplishing anything.

When you fail, go ahead and broadcast it to your audience. “You’re not going to believe the boneheaded thing I just did.” Tell them the story to let them know you are human, you are vulnerable and like everyone else, you are learning. People can relate to problems. Show that you can laugh at yourself, and your audience will become loyal followers.

Then go out and try something else. The more you do, the more successes (and failures) you will have.

And remember, if you take a running leap at your next goal and you fall a little short, that’s not failureit’s progress.

8: Make a Few Enemies

Have you ever noticed how Pepsi takes shots at Coca-Cola with their marketing? They don’t care what Coke thinks, they care about creating a tribe with their customers. Nothing unites people faster than a common enemy, and that enemy doesn’t even have to be another person or product.

It could be a cause such as hunger, poverty, climate change, mistreatment of animals, etc. Choose something to be against. Take a firm stance on something that reflects your customers’ values and your core ideals.

There are just two things you really must remain totally neutral about in your marketing, and that’s politics and religion. Unless you write a religious newsletter or you’re shilling for a political party, stay far away from these topics.

I know of one marketer who routinely insults half the population of the U.S. because she believes a certain ex-president is god and everyone in the other political party are demonic. While this marketer makes a comfortable living, I’m guessing her income would be 2 to 3 times as much if she didn’t alienate such a large number of people.

9: Shake It Up

If you’ve been in a long term relationship, you know that after awhile things can become stale. There are no more surprises and while you love your partner, you’re more bored than excited by the relationship.

The same thing happens between marketers and their customers.

Try changing things up by using a different spokesperson for your brand. For example, instead of the emails coming from you this week, what if they came from your assistant, your employee or even your dog?

Write your next emails from an entirely different perspective to recapture your followers’ attention and create excitement with something new.

10: Become a Cheerleader

Send out a message every now and then that sells your subscribers on themselves. Tell them why they are awesome, that you believe in them, that they can do this next big thing they are attempting, or even that you love them.

Sending out these little love letters for no reason other than to bolster your subscribers’ outlook on the day and on themselves will go a long way towards relationship building.

And you will love some of the responses you get, such as, “Thanks, I really needed to hear this today!’

Sending out little ‘love letters’ to your subscribers will remind them that you are more than your products or your brand – you’re human.

The 10 Biggest Reasons You Aren’t Making Big Money Online (Yet)

Sure, online businesses are more flexible and scalable. Who doesn’t want to earn their fortune working in their pajamas at the kitchen table? But if you’ve tried making money online and failed, then you know it’s not always as easy as it looks. There are a lot of people out there who seem to be doing it, but when you try it yourself, it's just not as simple.

Here are the reasons why you might be struggling, and how to turn things around and make each one of these challenges work for you instead of against you.

1: It’s more work than you thought.

Making money online isn’t a get rich quick scheme, despite what you may have been told. Decide in advance that you’re going to work hard, overcome your mistakes and persevere until you’re profitable. Having this mindset is often half the battle. Remember, tens of thousands of people are earning amazing incomes online. If they can do it, then so can you, if you just put in the work, learn how it’s done and don’t quit.

2: You don’t know what you’re doing.

Experience is a wonderful thing, but to get experience you’ll have to make mistakes and fall down a few times.

If there are skills you need to master, then do it. if there are needed skills that you are better off outsourcing, then do that.

And if you really want to shortcut the process, get a coach to teach you exactly what you need to know.

3: You’re in the wrong niche, or no niche at all.

Are you trying to appeal to everyone who needs to lose weight? Or everyone who wants to be smarter? Richer? Prettier? Then you don’t have a niche. When you try to appeal to everyone, you appeal to no one.

If you have a tightly focused niche, such as training greyhound dogs, is there a way you can easily reach your target audience? If not, then you need to choose a niche where you can communicate with the exact people who want your product or service.

Finally, do the people in your niche spend money on the type of item(s) you’re selling? Maybe everyone could use a belly button brush, but not many people will spend $19.95 to get one.

Finding the right niche that is tightly focused, easy to reach and spending money is key to success online.

4: Your product or service isn’t noteworthy.

People spend money on products and services that solve their problems, enhance their happiness or make their lives easier.

If your product isn’t doing at least one of these three things, then it’s not going to sell well.

Find out what your market is spending their money on and what they wish they could buy but they can’t find it. When you offer people products they already want to buy, you’re halfway to making the sale.

5: You’re lousy at selling.

Selling is a skill. It’s not something anyone is born with, and it can be learned by anyone willing to put in the effort. It’s also one of the highest paying skills in the world.

You can have the greatest product in history, but if you can’t communicate the value of the product to the prospect, then you won’t make sales.

How do you learn to sell? There are many courses on copywriting (selling via the written word) and on sales. But if you were to learn just one thing that would begin to make a vast difference, it’s this: Earn your prospect’s trust. When they know you, like you and trust you, they will buy your recommendations even if you do only a semi-adequate job of articulating how the product will improve their life.

6: You have no list.

It’s important to build a group of fans who know you, like you and trust you. When you have an active email list, you can send traffic to any offer you choose at any time. And if you’ve done a good job of communicating empathy, compassion and patience to your subscribers, they will follow you anywhere you choose to take them.

7: You have a list but you don’t regularly send emails.

A list of email subscribers won’t do you any good if you don’t build rapport with that list and also demonstrate that you are someone worth following online.

Send out not just promotional emails but also notices of your latest blog posts where you offer comprehensive articles of how to solve problems and get things done.

You might think it’s enough to get followers on social media, but email subscribers have the potential to bring in 50 times more value than social media followers, if you email them regularly with the information and offers they want.

8: You think being a lone wolf is a good thing.

One of the lures of online marketing is the thought that you can do everything by yourself, without ever truly interacting with anyone else. But consider this: The $5,000 potential coaching client is never going to sign up with you if you don’t first jump on a call with them. And the $50,000 joint venture will never happen if you don’t have someone to do a joint venture with.

Not to mention the sales you will miss if you don’t recruit top affiliates, the projects that will never happen if you don’t collaborate with others and one day the sale of your milliondollar business if you won’t talk to potential buyers.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking the internet is a place to earn a fortune without ever speaking to anyone, because humans simply don’t work that way.

9: You’re doing things the hard way.

Whatever it is that you’re doing or trying to do, odds are there is a tool, software, process or even a person who can automate and streamline things for you.

Imagine digging a hole with a shovel. Sure, you can do it over time, but it’s going to take tremendous effort and a lot of hours for you to dig a truly great hole in the ground. Bring in some heavy equipment and you’ll have that hole dug in half a day.

The internet is very much like that. No matter what you’re doing by hand, there is an easier way to do it with partial or even total automation. And the tasks that can’t be 100% automated, such as customer service, can be outsourced to someone else to do for you.

When you free yourself from mundane tasks, you can put your focus where it belongs – scaling your business.

10: You’re not producing enough.

If you write one book a year, you’re not going to earn as much as the person who writes one book a month. If you write one email or one blogpost a week, you’re not going to earn as much as the person who writes one or two blogposts and emails per day.

Figure out which tasks are bringing in the most money and then focus on those tasks. For example, if you realize that affiliates are bringing you 80% of your income, then focus on recruiting and retaining more affiliates. If you realize that creating new products is where your best profits are, get someone to help you create new products faster.

Now here’s the bottom line: The way to fail in online marketing or any other endeavor is to give up, which should tell you how to succeed:

• Never give up

• Figure out what you’re doing wrong and fix it

• Prioritize tasks that build your business

• Automate everything you possibly can

And realize that if other people can earn their fortunes online, then so can you.

Webinars are an awesome way to quickly build email lists and sell expensive products. In fact, many marketers use webinars almost exclusively to build their businesses. Here’s how they do it:

1: Host with a partner

Collaborate on a live webinar with someone else to maximize your reach. By hosting with another marketer, you can double and triple your reach thanks to their mailing list and social media contacts.

This time we're talking with a real high flyer when it comes to selling on Amazon and dominating niche markets. Not only does he have a degree in economics, but he is also an inspiring trainer, which is why he's been invited to speak on stages around the world in places such as Singapore, Malaysia, as well as closer to home. So it's a real pleasure to say welcome to Greg Cesar.

Greg Cesar:

Thank you. Thank you for having me.

Well, it's great to have you. Let's start by asking a little bit more about you and your background and how you got started.

Greg Cesar:

Yeah, absolutely. I graduated college and went out and got myself a corporate job, like everyone else is supposed to do, and my goal was to work up the corporate ladder and become president of a company somewhere. And one day I had a boss tell me, "When I tell you to do something, you do it." And I instantly realised that I was unemployable. I said, "There's just no way I can go work for someone who's going to tell me that."

So in 1997 or '98, I bought a product from television. It was some work at home thing and I had it for a couple months. And when I quit my job, I said, "Well, let's start this internet thing everybody keeps talking about." And I started consulting local businesses on, "Hey, you've got to advertise and market on the internet." And they all thought I was crazy. I actually had one guy say to me, "This internet thing is not going to be any good until the year 2050." And-

Greg Cesar:

I wanted to say, "Where did you get that figure from?" So it wasn't the easiest thing back then and-

I was going to say, this is the early days of the internet too, right?

Greg Cesar:

Oh, this was the days, if you wanted to rank number one on Yahoo, all you had to do was put a letter or a number in front of your domain, and you'd be number one in a day or two.

Editor:

Wow.

My daughter's making $38 a day on Amazon." And here's the crazy part, she was eight years old at the time.

Greg Cesar:

That's how easy it was back then. Yeah. And so I started consulting businesses and I started getting good at it, and I wanted to go out and get more clients. So I decided, let me learn how to sell products and content and things like that on the internet. And I got really good at that. I mean I've sold my own personal products since then, and probably 170,000 customers that I have personally sold to over the years. So I learned that what I thought was an impossible thing was actually the most easiest thing once I learned how to do it. So that got me speaking all over the globe and training people and it's been an amazing journey.

And I said to myself, "God dang it, if an eight year old is kicking my butt on Amazon, what the heck do I got to be afraid of?" And so I said I'm going to get started. And the thing about it was I sat and I asked myself, what's the fastest and quickest thing that I could sell? And I said, "Well, I've been selling information. Why don't I take one of my courses and why don't I see if I could sell that?" But I didn't want to go on the Kindle side. I had done Kindle and Kindle is amazing, but the price points on Kindle are very low. You're talking $3, $4, $5, $9 a product. So I said, "I want to sell a $50 product. I want to sell a $90 product. So how do I do that?" I said, "I got it. I can't make it an ebook, I have to make it a course, and I have to make it physical. And if I do that, people will pay me."

Well, a lot of people either listening or reading this will know you through the book, Selling Info Products Through Amazon FBA. That's something that you are really well known for. Maybe we can just touch on that for a second, how that came about and what's the background to that?

Greg Cesar:

So I took my course and I recorded it. I turned it into an audio and put it on a cd. And I said, "Well, let's see if anyone's going to buy it." And sure enough, within the first day, I made $9. Within the first two months, I was at $3,000 a month in sales. And then it just went up from there. So it was something that was really, I saw an eight year old kid doing it and said, "If they can do it, I can do it." And that is what motivated me to get started.

Yeah. So before I started selling content on Amazon, I was selling info products off of my websites using Google traffic and did very well, drove millions and millions of visitors. And around 2014, everyone had been talking about FBA, FBA, FBA. And for those who don't know, FBA is Fulfilled By Amazon is you take a product, you ship it to Amazon, and they sell it, blenders, widgets, cars, toys, whatever it is.

That's amazing. I mean you've had an incredible success, obviously with everything that you've been doing online, but to see that you've been inspired by an eight year old, I mean there's something in that, Greg, to be fair.

And so I had looked at the model and what I saw was a huge flaw in the model in that everyone was, if I want to sell blenders, I have to order a thousand blenders from somewhere, I've got to get my name put on the blenders, and if I'm paying $20 for the blenders, just the cost to get the blenders before anything else is 20 grand. And I don't know if that's going to work or not going to work. So I kind of hesitated a bit. And what motivated me to actually give it a try, and it's a true story I tell in my webinars, is I went to a barbecue and a friend of mine showed up with his daughter and he told me, "You won't believe this

Greg Cesar:

I tell people, you never know when your next opportunity is going to come. And that's the second opportunity I've had that has come from a kid. Another one was, we were running ads in newspapers and I saw a 16 year old kid who was doing it successfully. Well, who do you think I called? I called a 16 year old and said, "Hey, show me what you're doing." There is no shame in the game. Whoever has the knowledge, I'm going to take it. The age doesn't matter. So in a lot of people, they would've said, "Oh, that's a kid. I'm not going to listen to a kid." I say, "It doesn't matter. It's whoever's doing it successfully is who you want to learn from."

Absolutely. And Amazon, as you say, a lot of people are tempted to get into Amazon, because it has a lot of customers, you don't have to set up a website, they'll handle all the shipments, all the fulfilment, all the returns if necessary. It's all done for you. But I guess the barriers to entry can sometimes put people off. What do you say to people to motivate them to take those steps that are necessary to get their products onto Amazon?

Do You Know the MarketingRule of ONE?

Simple because it actually makes your marketing much easier, rather than harder.

Mighty because this one small change produces massive results.

And effective because when applied correctly, the conversions are typically nothing short of phenomenal. In fact, I’ve seen this rule turn a losing campaign into healthy profit and a profitable campaign into an empire.

The Rule of One states: Your marketing should focus on ONE big idea, ONE prospect, ONE main benefit, ONE core emotion and ONE call to action.

One big idea presented in a clear and convincing manner is more powerful than a string of mediocre ideas. And it’s far more memorable, too.

If you offer reason after reason on why your prospect should buy, they will often end up confused and the sale will be lost. A multitude of points weakens each point in turn because it seems none of them are strong enough to stand on their own.

Your one idea must be something your prospect can immediately understand and believe. It’s got to be powerful to invoke action.

You might have a list of 7 benefits that your product provides. Choose just one for your headline, your introduction and as the driving force of your copy. You may touch on the other six later in the copy and even bring attention to them through testimonials.

Here’s how to put the marketing rule of one into practice:

One Big Idea

As you might guess, finding your one big idea is harder than it sounds. Few marketers are going to know their one big idea from the start, no matter how well they know their market and their product.

Here’s how to find the one big idea: List all of your benefits. Not the features; just the benefits.

If you don’t know your benefits, write down your features and then ask yourself, “So what?” for each one. Keep digging.

“My product helps middle aged women lose weight.”

So what?

“They feel better about themselves and look better, too.”

So what?

“They have more energy, feel better, think better, have better sex and relationships, get more done, get more promotions, make more money.”

So what?

“They have a much higher quality of life with fewer regrets and far better experiences.”

Now you’re on the right track. You only get one life and no one wants that life to suck.

One Prospect

New marketers want to speak to everyone. What they don’t realize is that they are speaking to no one because they are focused on no one person.

Place your ideal prospect across from you at your kitchen table. Use your imagination if your ideal prospect won’t come to your house. Now have a conversation with them as though they are your friend.

Don’t know who your idea prospect is? Then it’s time to do research. Just who is it that you want to target? How old are they? What gender? What are their hobbies and interests? Where do they live and what kind of work do they do? Most of all, where do you find them online?

Create a buyer persona that is ONE person. Give them a name. Then write your material as though you are speaking just to this one person.

One Main Benefit

Copy is best when it focuses on one main benefit, and I’ll be the first to admit that the “big idea” and the “big benefit” can sometimes blur together.

In our previous example, the feature is weight loss, the big benefit is feeling better and the big idea is a much better life.

Whatever your choice and however you decipher this, your biggest and strongest benefit of your product or service is the one to use for most of your copy. You can also use the other benefits later in the copy, but they will be in small supporting roles and your big benefit will be the headlining star of the show.

Think about a time when you were suffering from the exact same problem for which your product is a solution. What was the main emotion you felt? Fear? Embarrassment? Frustration? Anger?

This is the emotion to focus on in your copy, not just to get your prospect to feel that emotion, but also how they will feel when they are finally rid of it, too.

One Call to Action

Everything – your landing page, webpage, advertisement, sales page and so forth should have just one call to action. This is one clear and easy action for the prospect to take.

For example, your squeeze page has one call to action to join your list. The follow-up page has one call to action to get your low-priced product. If there is an upsell, then that page has one call to action to buy the big product.

No matter what type of page you are creating, it will have only one call to action on it to make it direct, clear and actionable.

And yes, that call to action can be repeated multiple times on the same page, but it will be the same call to action each time.

Time to Take Action of Your Own

Choose a piece of your own copy and go through it, removing extraneous stuff and sharpening it to focus on just one big idea, prospect, benefit, emotion and call to action.

You’ll be making your copy stronger, clearer and far more effective when you do this.

Use the Rule of One in all of your future marketing to remove confusion and make your messages clear, and you’ll likely see a significant increase in conversions as well as happier customers who become repeat buyers.

Because once a person replies back, no matter what her answers might be, a dialogue is started. A back-and-forth exchange can happen, objections can be overcome and sales can be made.

I don’t know what this ‘no cost’ program costs, but I’m going to guess it’s a $1000 or more.

Even if this strategy only results in another sale or two, it’s worth it. And if it makes 5 or 10 or 100 additional sales, then so much the better.

Plus, it gives the list owner the chance to customize an offer to each individual person who responds. If their objection is price, then offer something more basic at a lower price. If time is their objection, offer something easier with a lower time investment. If lack of confidence is the problem, offer something more at a beginner’s level.

It takes time, effort and money to put leads into your webinar funnel. If you can convert more of those leads simply by offering $100 to get several dozen dialogues going, why not try it?

Even if you don’t want to engage in salesmanship, you could always send them the following reply back:

“While you didn’t win the $100, you did win second prize of $500 off of the program.”

Selling a few dozen copies of your program at half price can be an awesome payday for you, and it costs you nothing.

Podcasting for Beginners in 10 Easy Steps

Based on questions I’ve received from people who want to start a podcast, I’m going to outline exactly how to get started in podcasting with minimum investment of time, money and frustration, even if you don’t know the first thing about podcasting.

You might think of a podcast as a digitally created audio document. Your audience can listen to your podcasts directly on their podcasting platforms, or they can download them in MP3 format to their devices which use a free app that plays the podcast.

Podcasts tend to be favored over written media for busy people because they can listen while they are commuting, exercising and so forth.

As a podcaster, you can talk about anything you want. You might share stories, news, conduct interviews and educate your audience.

But you already knew all of that, right? Which means you’re already well on your way to knowing not just how a podcast works, but also how to start your own podcast.

Here then are the 10 simple steps to get you started:

1: Decide What Your Podcast is All About

First, you need to come up with a concept for your podcast. What will it be about? What's your angle? What will make it unique? Spend some time brainstorming and come up with a few different ideas.

If you can, choose a topic you care about. Passion will be evident in your voice, and that will keep listeners engaged. Something that you can talk about enthusiastically for at least 30 minutes straight is ideal.

2: Research and Planning

Once you've got a concept, it's time to start planning out your content. What topics will you cover? Who will your guests be? How often will you release episodes? Make a rough outline of what your podcast will look like.

This is when you’ll want to research your topic inside and out. Preparing for your podcast episode by doing research will help you sound more confident, credible, and interesting to your listener. They will be able to tell if you know what you're talking about just by the way you speak.

Choose a catchy name for your podcast and start recording. Your podcast's name is one of the first things potential listeners will see, so make sure it's catchy and eye-catching. Avoid using inside jokes or puns that only you and your friends would get.

Grow your audience by continuing to produce high-quality episodes on a regular basis and promote your podcast to grow your audience. You can also reach out to other podcasters and collaborate on episodes or cross-promote each other's shows as well as doing guest appearances on other shows. This is a great way to get exposure to new listeners and make some valuable connections in the industry.

9: Consistency and Feedback

Stay consistent regardless of how many listeners you have. Eventually you’ll reach a tipping point where more and more people are subscribing your podcast, but in the beginning it can sometimes feel like no one is listening. Don’t give up because you’re laying a foundation that is going to pay off when you keep moving forward.

Obtaining success with your podcast means staying consistent with both the quality of your episodes and the release schedule. Listeners will unsubscribe if they don't hear new episodes on a regular basis.

10: Enjoying the Process

Finally, don't forget to have fun! This is supposed to be enjoyable, so make sure you're doing something that you love. If you're not having fun, it'll show in your episodes. If it starts to feel like a chore, take a break or switch up your format. The most important thing is to have fun and keep your love for podcasting alive.

Case Study: $90,000 Lost by Using Fiverr – Here’s What Happened

Reddit user ShogunSpirit4 (we’ll call them SS4) reports they lost $90,000 because of a developer they found on Fiverr.

SS4 hired a developer to create a website that could accept payments via QR code or by entering their credit card number.

As far as SS4 knew, everything was fine and dandy. That is, until they did an audit and realized funds were missing.

It seems the developer swapped out the QR code for his own. Customers who used a QR code were paying the developer, not the site owner. And the developer was savvy enough to install a backdoor through which he sent payment confirmation and access codes to the customers, making everything appear legitimate.

The total amount of money lost was $90,000 and the developer is nowhere to be found.

How might you prevent this from happening to you?

Your first answer might be to never hire strangers, but you can quickly see the problem with this. Everyone is a stranger until you get to know them, and if you never get to know anyone new then you’re going to be quite limited in business and in life.

A few suggestions:

• Look for people who have plenty of substantiated testimonials from happy clients. If they are new, don’t let them near your financials.

• Audit your site often. A quick check could have told this entrepreneur that they had X number of subscribers which meant they should have Y amount of money. This isn’t complicated and would only take a couple of minutes to get the totals and do the math. How it was allowed to progress to a whopping $90,000 is a mystery, unless perhaps they were doing this amount of business in an extremely short period of time.

• Change all passcodes often and keep tabs on when your site is accessed and my whom.

• Run test purchases often to make sure everything is working properly.

Being just a little bit paranoid at all times is a good thing. This is your mode of income we’re talking about, the very money that allows you to have a roof over your head and food on your table.

Be vigilant and keep tabs on the numbers like your livelihood depends upon it, because frankly, it does.

$299 for a ‘Free’ Newsletter

I was in the middle of reading an article titled, “The Millionaire Who Lost it All and Became a Castaway” when a pop-up asks if I would like to subscribe to Trends, a newsletter that highlights trends in business.

Okay, why not? I’m a little annoyed that this pop-up came in the middle of the article, but the newsletter sounds good so I enter my email address and hit subscribe.

I’m then taken to another page that is asking me to prove I’m not a robot. Okay, fine. I click the “I’m not a robot” box and enter my email address a second time. I click the button and now I’m taken to a form that wants my credit card number. For a free newsletter??

I realize they never said it was free, I just assumed it was since they never ever mentioned a subscription fee. (Silly me).

They want to charge me $1 for a 7 day trial membership, and there is a countdown timer that says I better fork over my info within 7 minutes or else.

I’m scrolling all over the page trying to figure out how much it costs after the $1 trial and I finally locate the fine print that says it costs $299 per year.

Ouch.

How many people enter their email address thinking this is free?

And how many more people pay the $1, not realizing they’re going to pay $299 in seven days?

I did not enter my information but instead came here to write this to you. What do you think? Is this a good way to do business? Assuming this isn’t just a test, then they’re making money by doing this. But I have to think they’re getting a lot of irate people on Day 8 who want to know what the $299 is for.
