Increasing pedestrian flow, diverse activities and facilities, footbridges become floating spaces with branches, creating new connections and incresed the effectiveness of pedestrian flow

Footbridges are floating spaces away from ground, It should functioned more than a conveyor. Due to the increasing footprint of bridges, why not just float a platform over the city, maximising the floating extremity.

Story and fantasies These are the story and fantasies developed based on current stiuation and trends of floating extremity happening in Hong Kong, For the project, it is focused on story and fantasies of 2050's decade, about the relationship of future floating city an lower city herritage.

2020s. Footbridge is a tool Footbridges is a tool to increase pedestrian effectiveness, working like a conveyor of people, so that we use a Moving sidewalk and blocking vision to show the dullness of footbridges at 2020s, also currently there are lots of obstacle for pedestrian walking on the street, some the functions are being taken away, for example shop are closing due to the growth of footbridge networks. So we wanted to make the street level undesirable to pass through, by installing obstacle to affect the willingness to pass through the street.

2030s. Footbridge is more than a tool For 2030s, bridges started to have multi-levels which bring new connections mode, we tried to find elements about connection methods from the previous researches and concept development, to make footbridges more than a tool and make people reconnect with the city instead of going into a conveyor.


2040s. Extremely Complicated Footbridges System and the Begining of Floating Structure

Also, in the story, at 2040s decade, the footbridges development are out of control, those connections become super complicated. At this zone our design mainly show the contrast between the unfinished floating city and the existing footbridge system. To show the floating structure is under construction, there are frame exposed near the platform, and the coverage of floating platform are not fully covered. For the lower parts, there are many irregular platform showing the complexity but they are all connected due to the density.

2050s. Preserve whole city as heritage and develop above For the story of year at 2050s, Majority of population migrated to the floating city, the existing face of city turned into heritage. There are tunnels connecting the floating city and the old footbridges, providing cultural tours for future people. Which inspire us to locate the tube cross bordering different decades’ zones, people on the path are able to witness other zones. If the audience visited the section about the 2050s, this makes them curious what happened to Hong Kong before the 2050s and to think the future development. There is also a situation that there are the 2030s and 2050s sections on different extremities as a neighbor, which make people think about the extremities in different decades, what happened before and what happened after. This stimulates the audience’s fantasies in a future city.

In order to keep the unity of the content of the exhibition, we set up some rules to make our fantasy happens in the same world. We use a decade as a unit, foreseeing the future development of architectural the extremity of Hong Kong, let the audience have a glance at how this modern city turned into a utopia. Future

In Hong Kong, under the mindsets of utilitarianism To make audience fantasize the future city, there is no specific order to place the zoning of a different timeline If I am an audience, I will be surprised that there is no any hint for the preferred directions, I don’t know where I should go after finishing the current section. But fortunately, I am clearly explained on the locations, topics, and contents of different sections by the signages and maps. There is no specific order for the sections of a different decade, Under this situation, the audience can go to the section of the current development trend and led to a further thinking of a future city

If the audience visited the section about the 2050s, this makes them curious what happened to Hong Kong before the 2050s and to think the future development. There is also a situation that there are the 2030s and 2050s sections on different extremities as a neighbor, which make people think about the extremities in different decades, what happened before and what happened after. This fulfilled the objective that stimulates the audience’s fantasies in a future city. Because fantasy of a future city is unstoppable so that there is a section about the fantasy of people at 2050s, this exhibition is actually an inspiring experience, everyone has their own fantasies hidden, it is the time to let them expose.
