Further to the prime minister’s announcement that restrictions are now extended to Mon 19th July, we have to delay the Grand Opening until Thurs 29th July, when complimentary cakes and refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you then.

Songbirds

Hello ladies. I hope you are all well and enjoying the lovely weather we are having. As things are at the moment, singing is still a no go, therefore it makes it difficult for us to fix a date for our meetings. We will plan for a very hopeful start up in September but if advice changes we will obviously notify you all. In the meantime keep well, stay safe and look forward to us all joining together in song ASAP.

We began to meet again outside when restrictions relaxed in May and have continued in the courtyard of the Arts Centre. It has been good to play with others rather than alone. When the Arts Centre re-opens we will assess the safety of singing inside and make a decision about moving indoors. But while the weather remains warm and dry we can continue to play outside. Our first bookings for our large group are in December, though there may be a couple of opportunities for smaller groups before then. If you are interested in booking us please check out our website.

We are delighted to welcome artist and sculptor Michael Hipkins MRSS to the Arts Centre in July. Michael (b.1942) studied at Blackpool College of Art before continuing to study painting in Paris and then etching and printmaking at S.W.Hayter’s Atelier 17. In March 2020, Michael suffered a stroke and then Covid. However as soon as he was discharged from hospital, he returned to painting and has produced over 120 works of art. This exhibition charts his journey to recovery through the imposed isolation of both illnesses and lockdown - opportunities to observe nature more closely in this scenic area of the North West. Michael’s work may be seen from Tues 27th July to Thurs 19th August.
